You slowly wake as warming rays of sunlight hit your hotel room. You stretch your arms, then legs, then tail. First day waking up as Earth’s Champion. First day waking up after... your date with Cocoa. You were hoping that sense of unease would go away, but it’s merely diminished. Well... at the very least she didn’t say she didn’t reciprocate. But she does need time. And... really, you need time too.

You hear mom and dad talking nearby, and get yourself dressed for the day, heading down to breakfast with them. You notice that mom’s... got a very worried look on her face. One she’s trying to hide, but one that’s quite noticeable in spite of it. Mom sits down at a table with your aunt, uncle, and cousin as dad fills up his plates with extra pancakes, waffles, slices of bacon, sausages, and what look to be a few stuffed crepes.

“So... how’d it go, Champ?” Izzy asks you with a mildly teasing, mildly curious tone.

“Was pretty fun. I learned I’m terrible at ring toss.” You show her your plush mole. “But Cocoa’s a genius at it. She got this one for me in addition to some for herself.”

Aunt Chi-chi lets out a soft “aww” as you show it around, your cousin squinting as you purposefully avoid giving her the answer she wants. But before she can continue, mom and uncle Acer begin chatting. “So I was thinking on looking into that shelter...” mom starts.

“Siiiis.” your uncle grumbles. “There’s an actual process for it. Dad went through it. Besides, you don’t have to be the one yourself.”

“What shelter? What process?” you ask, then take a few bites of your pancakes.

Mom seems to sink back in her chair. “Ah, well... Gohan helped out a blind orphan boy yesterday, helped him to a shelter. I was thinking that maybe we could-”

“You were about to teleport down there and try to adopt him on the spot.” Acer grumbles out. Mom pouts at him, but he continues, “Process. Dad went through it.”

“I know... just...”

“Maybe Lapis might be interested.” dad comments, finally arriving as he carries a mountain of breakfast foods with him. “He’s kinda wanted a kid.”

“Right, but still...” mom mumbles.

Huh, that raises a question in your mind. Where is- “Izzy! Heeeey! Izzy!” a girl calls out to your cousin. You turn your head and spot a blonde girl in a fashionable outfit and a boy in a more traditional gi with her.

“Ah, Sachie! Hey again!” she calls back, waving. “You guys leaving aleady?”

“Saaadly. Our plane’s in about an hour, but we wanted to wish you well before we did.” She holds up a V-sign. “Ah, and of course, congratulating the new Champ and everything. You kicked butt!”

“Thank you, ah...”

“Sachie Momochi.” she introduces, then pulls her friend over. “And this stick in the mud is Zarid.” she adds playfully.

“It is nice to meet you. Gohan and I were in the preliminary round together.” he states politely, then looks around, a little confused.

“I’m from Japan.” the girl replies energetically. “Part of the Momochi Ninja clan.”

You do a double-take. “...Ninja clan?” you repeat, then ask Izzy telepathically, ‘Japan?’

‘Near Arale’s hometown.’ she replies. Oh. That explains it.

“Yep!” Sachie affirms. “My dad’s Momochi the 21st.”

“I’m from a village far west of Japan. I actually managed to partake in the Junior Division some time ago.” Zarid replies. He again looks around, confused.

“We got involved in some Galactic Patrol stuff. Got me to really take my training seriously again.” Sachie states. “And hearing about this Tournament thing, it sounded like a lot of fun.”

“We really should hang out some time. Summer?” Izzy asks her.

Sachie places her hands behind her head. “Mmm yeah. Summer sounds good. School should be out and everything. Maybe you won’t get your butt beat so easily next time, Zarid.” the girl teases.

“It wasn’t like my fights were all that easy.” he grumbles.

“Yeah yeah you can complain next time you beat one of those Kai guys.” she sticks her tongue out, causing Izzy to giggle.

“Gohan was probably a good deal stronger.” he replies. He then frowns. “I was hoping that I could say goodbye to him before we left, actually...”

Oh, right. “Say, where is Gohan? Didn’t he go back home?” you ask mom.

Maple turns away, her unease returning. “...He contacted me last night. He’s... encountered that group of ninja, and wants to see if he can help them work out their differences with us. Trip will be meeting with their leader.”

You tense up as well. “That... sounds like a plan that could go south REALLY quickly. Like, hey, let’s bring a bunch of dangerous ninja known to take hostages to one of the most important people on the planet.” You stand up. “We’re going over there like, soon, right?”

“Eh, Popo can probably handle then.” dad comments. “He’s a good deal tougher than he looks.”

You grumble. “I don’t like this.”

“I’m keeping careful watch on them.” mom states.

Sitting back down, you repeat, “I don’t like this.”

“And if Gohan pulls any more tricks like this without telling me he’s grounded for a year.” she adds.

Sachie and Zarid seem a little lost, Izzy explaining some things to them to help them understand. As you finish off the pancakes you were eating, you then ask mom, “So, what was that about a blind kid? You think someone might be able to help heal his eyes?”

“Maybe.” mom responds in a way that you know means she’s been thinking on it.

“Maple...” Acer starts.

“I know I know.”

“Ah, um, anyway, give Gohan my regards when you can.” Zarid tells you all formally, giving a respectful bow.

“Should be getting ready for our plane ride.” Sachie states.

“Hey... actually, maybe there’s a faster way home.” you call out to them before they head off. “Mom, does Mr. Korin have any spare Nimbuses around?”

“They’d have to pass his trials.” Maple states.

You notice, however, Sachie turn her head back at hearing the word “trials,” grinning wide. “...Go on.”

“Am I going to have to drag you back again?” Zarid questions with a roll of his eyes.

Well... could introduce them to Korin right now, but might not be the best idea to make them miss their flight. Still... “Tell you what, I’ll show you guys. Just gimme a sec...” You wolf down the last few slices of bacon and plates of eggs, then ask to be excused.

Sachie grins even wider, Zarid raising an eyebrow. Izzy quickly finishes her breakfast and heads off with you. Outside the hotel, you call out for the Nimbus, the cloud flying to you all. The pair look around it curiously, Sachie placing her hand on it... and it doesn’t go through. “Oh wow, wish my mattress back home was this soft!” she exclaims.

“The pure of heart are able to ride it. Mr. Korin manages a big ol’ cloud of them.” you explain, hopping on the Nimbus yourself. “My Aunt Suno has one of her own, after completing Mr. Korin’s trials.”

The schoolgirl lets out an excited “Eeeeee~”

“Say, you said you’re a ninja, right?” you ask her. Once she nods, you follow up, “So... do you know how to completely hide your Ki?”

“Hm? Oh, yeah, sure. Takes a bit of practice to get used to but it’s a useful skill.” she replies, still poking the cloud. “...Say, now that I think about it, didn’t you show off that too?”

You nod. “I did. Learned it from my friend Cocoa, who herself learned it from this group of ninja who’ve been a bit of a thorn in our side.”

“Shame. Our clan’s fairly honorable, but we know a few who are real butts.” Sachie comments. “If you want a trick though, some more amateurish ones try too hard to hide it, and so they feel unnaturally weak.” She pokes the Nimbus again. “Ooooh, this is so cool...”

“Well, probably something try out during summer then.” Izzy comments. “Of course, I’ve got something a little different.”

“As interesting as this is, it would probably be in our best interests to get going.” Zarid comments.

“Yeah yeah...” Sachie starts to walk off with him, turning back and holding up a V-sign. “I’ll see you again soon, Izzy! Better believe it!”

Your cousin gives her a thumb’s up. “Looking forward to it.”

“Oh sure. And speaking of friends...” A sly smirk creeps across her face. “So my little cousin had her first big date~”

You blush just a little, then roll your eyes. “S-sure.” You... think it went well. Right? Went well? ...Crap don’t start this up again. “I... I’ll be back in a bit.” You lock on to Keli’s Ki and ask if she has a moment, teleporting to her once she lets you know she does.

You force a nod. “Y-yeah... yeah, went over well, I think. Oh, also, got something else...”

Explaining what you learned about Gohan encountering the ninja, Keli immediately contacts Tien and lets him know as well. The lady then rubs her forehead. “Ugh. And here I was hoping we could put this behind us for a while...”

Crrrrap. “Keli I’m going to be heading over soon. You want to come with?”

She gives an affirming nod. “Yeah. I’m not sitting by on this. I’ll let Master Tien know. You got a plan, kid?”

“...I think I do.” You’re about to teleport away, when you remember what mom’s been worrying about. ‘Ghost Pepper to Momma Bird, come in Momma Bird. Over.’

‘Momma Bird here, what’s wrong Ghost Pepper? Over.’

‘Heading to Mr. Korin’s to keep watch on Ninja Nonsense. Will not cause any trouble, but want to be careful. Over.’

‘Copy that, Ghost Pepper. Keep in touch.’

‘Will do, Momma Bird. Over and out.’ You hold your hand out to Keli. “Okay, mom’s got watch on this too. I’m ready. You?”

Keli nods. “Yeah. Let’s do this.”

Teleporting to Korin’s Tower, you and Keli greet the cat man and Yajirobe, then make sure they’re up to speed. You then climb to the top and lower your Ki, getting Keli to do the same. You then place your Power Pole in the top, and start to ascend towards the Lookout. As the two of you ascend on it, you take a moment to let Keli know a bit about your date. “...So. It... I think it went well.”

“Who was the lucky girl that caught our Champ’s attention? You never did tell me.”

You smile shyly. “Cocoa. We’ve been friends ever since we were little. It’s just... now I’ve really started to feel like I want to be more than friends with her.”

“And... does she feel the same way?” Keli asks a bit more bluntly.

You hesitate a reply. “We had fun. The both of us really liked spending time together, but... I don’t know. I don’t want to stress out over this. She... picked up on that I might like her as more than a friend. And she said she needed time.”

“Mm. So not an affirmation, not a rejection.” Keli looks away. “...Heh. You’re holding up better than I was.”

“R-really?”

“You didn’t start banging your head on a table calling yourself stupid, did you?” Her tone gets a bit more warm and friendly.

“N-no?” What.

“Then yes. Really.” She smiles up at you. “She’ll need time to process this. She might not have really thought about girls in the way we do before. Give her the space she needs, but don’t become distant. You still care about her as a friend, right?”

“Of course.” you affirm.

“Then continue to show her that kind of friendship. That’s what she needs right now.” As the Lookout comes into view, Keli asks further, “...Is it just her, or is there anyone else who you might be interested in?”

Here it goes. “Well, for starters, Lime is really nice and friendly, and she is kinda cute, but she’s not really shown attraction towards anyone, and even so I think she’s straight. Videl is close to me, hell, we’re best friends, but in spite of what Basilea might have implied, we only see each other as that, best friends.” You go on to list off the other friends you have, and while you know they’re pretty, you don’t quite have the feelings for them you do Cocoa. You even bring mention of Basilea (who has a SERIOUS attitude problem), a couple of the Ghoul School girls, Pan, and Bra.

“...I’m definitely noticing a distinct lack of boys in this list.” Keli comments with a mild smirk.

You shrug. “I know that Monty guy was pretty clearly attracted to me. I might’ve been obvious to Cocoa, but literally everyone around us could tell that he liked me. And yet, like, I barely know him to begin with. Plus he doesn’t really seem to see me like Cocoa does...”

She might not be into girls... and even if she is, she might not see me the same way. She could be into someone else, and if so... I still care about her as my friend. I’d like her to be happy too. I might struggle with this the most out of everything. And-” You see Keli rubbing her face with her arm. “...U-um, are you okay?”

“Y-yeah. Heh. You’re way more mature than I was at your age.” She sighs out. “I get it though. Sounds like, at the very least, you’ve got a good friend.”

You grin wide as you start to climb the Lookout. “She’s the best. Th-thanks for listening to my rambling.”

“You listened to my sob story, it’s only fair.” She grabs on to the ladder behind you. “So, that all?”

“Only thing I might like as much as her is the spiciest curry in the world.” you joke at her, the two of you sharing a quick laugh. “Think that’s enough for now. Let’s get this done.” Sensing ahead, you notice the Popo is up at the top. Gohan’s somewhere inside the Lookout, with Trip and you suspect another person, though you can’t sense them very well. Might be a couple more people up ahead with Mr. Popo.

‘What do they look like?’ you question, reaching one of the Lookout windows and try to sense for them. Agh, it’s almost like they blend into the scenery.

Huh... that elderly pink alien does seem suspicious. But... wait, who’s that other guy? You contact Keli. ‘Is this anyone familiar to you? He looks like someone but I can’t-’

‘...no.’ she lets out a reply of disbelief. ‘Agh, no, how was I so blind?! Yeah he’s familiar all right. I need to see for myself.’

You sense her start to climb up higher, and you climb up to match her. Poking your head up, you see the two ninja standing tensely with Mr. Popo. A smaller one and a larger one. Can’t see their faces at this distance. ‘Well?’

Keli... seems angry. ‘Spending time with his girlfriend. Tch. So this is what he’s been up to. Bisa you... you...!’

The smaller ninja looks around, then comments, “They are taking their sweet time.”

“Kami wishes to be thorough.” Popo responds. You notice him start to power up slightly. He senses something’s up. And you know something’s going to happen too. You better get ready to stop them before-

“Ah, and there they go.” The smaller ninja spreads his legs slightly. “Perfect.” The two immediately bolt at Popo, who is able to hold then back even in spite of their surprise attack. You and Keli leap up into the air, ready to engage as well, only for a massive shadow to form over you both. You look up...

And then are kicked down by a gigantic creature’s legs. A monster so large it seems to take up the entirety of the lookout. As you’re kicked down... you see the legs start to stomp around it. A chunk of the Lookout is broken off, landing on top of you as you hit the ground below. You power up and burst through it, bolting skyward.

“WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!” Keli exclaims as she flies up with you.

“I have no idea, but I’ll draw its attention and try to get it away from here! You do what you can to stop them!” You go Super Saiyan and bolt on ahead to the gigantic monster. The two ninja have moved on inside, and Keli’s chasing after them. It’s up to you to stop it from destroying the whole thing! As you fly up you notice that... it’s literally just a giant pair of legs. Where the rest of its torso would be is just a swirling mass of mist. You see it attempt to stomp down on Mr. Popo, and bolt underneath it to hold it off. “GRRHH... GET... OFF... THE LOOKOUT!” As it tries to stomp you down, you power up even further, going Super Saiyan 2 and knocking it off balance and finally flinging it off.

While the legs fall off, you notice that they... somehow just disappear into the air. What the-? Wait no, they didn’t just disappear! They’ve teleported! Right above you they try stomp down on you again, you narrowly missing them and going for the monster’s tail, grappling it and dragging it with you through the air. It vanishes once more, leaving your grip, only to reform closer to the Lookout again. Oh no you don’t! Thinking quick, you use Instant Transmission to teleport to it and then stop it once more.

You then contact everyone you can, yelling out as you talk to them telepathically, “There’s a terrible situation going on at the Lookout! Whoever can lend a hand, I’d appreciate it!”

As you drag the thing away once more, you sense Chuu Lee teleport in right behind you, flying quickly. Maple and Tien seem to be at the Lookout. Okay, good, got that done at least. “Peppa! What IS that?!”

“No clue but whatever it is it’s a pain!” you yell back at her. It vanishes once more, only this time you’re prepared for it, teleporting to it and grabbing it before it can do any more damage.

“...I’ve got an idea. We’ll take the thing to Monster Island.” Chuu Lee states.

“It keeps teleporting and it’s really strong, how do we keep it there?” you ask her, the monster managing to do just that. Mom and Tien look to be heading into the Lookout, at least, so they’ve got that covered.

Chuu Lee gives you the answer by teleporting to it and stopping it herself, then teleporting back to you. “We play keep away with it, both of us moving it back while a certain someone manages to blast it down!”

Aha, of course! Have the giant monster fight other giant monsters! ...Wait, that gives you an idea! “Okay, copy that, but we need something more! And I know just the person to help!” When Chuu Lee teleports away with the monster, you contact Izzy and let her know your plan. She agrees to it, and you quickly get to her. As you explain the situation to your aunt and uncle, Chi-chi also gives you her Bansho Fan to help keep it in check.

“This is nuts.” Izzy tells you as she holds on to your shoulder.

“Heh, and I bet you thought today was going to be boring.” you reply cheekily to her, placing your fingers on your forehead. Okay... there, Teach is at Monster Island! Locked on to her!

She giggles. “Hoping it would be. Oh well. Let’s save the world.”

As you teleport to Monster Island, you see the legs stomping around, trying to attack the things around it. They seem more... well, mindless. Out of control, at least. But the stomping and slashes of its tail are stopped by a blue beam of energy, knocking them down.

Stomping towards the monster, you see the massive form of the island’s King. Godzilla. Chuu Lee floats towards you. “Seems he wants a chance to kick that thing’s ass too.”

“And we’ll be his backup!” you declare, grabbing the Bansho Fan tight. The monster tries to slash its tail around, only for Godzilla to grab it and fling it down. Godzilla then brings his hands together, charging up a Kamehameha. The villainous monster attempts to vanish once more, but you quickly teleport to it and swing the Bansho Fan at it, kicking it in the crotch for good measure to force it down, then teleport it back. You’re able to avoid its tail strike, but Izzy isn’t so lucky, getting swatted aside.

But you’re able to distract it long enough that Godzilla finishes charging, letting out a roar as he fires the Kamehameha at the monster, adding his own mouth beam to the mix and holding the monster down. Izzy finally manages to stop herself, then flies towards the gargantuan disembodied legs. She brings her hand up, a shining, watery ball forming in it and launching upwards. “HYDRO...” She clenches her fist, the sphere breaking into thousands upon thousands of raindrops as your cousin yells out, “STORM!”

The drops bombard the monster, and together with Godzilla’s attack, it seems to finally put a stop to it. The legs stop moving... and the sinister Ki signature coming from them vanishes, the legs themselves breaking down into dust.

You, Izzy, and Chuu Lee all let out a loud sigh of relief. “That... was way more pain than it seemed like.” You wipe your brow. “But it’s over. I think.”

“But are they really gone?” Izzy asks. “We might have stopped them, but something tells me they aren’t gone for good.”

Godzilla lets out a victorious roar regardless, then waves to Chuu Lee before heading off. “They’re gone for now. But we’ll need more information on what those things were to know for certain.”

“Yeah, that Onio guy. Kicked his butt pretty hard. Hmm... 19 and I did do a number on that Heran lady too.” She laughs as she recalls the battle. “Ahh, that was fun.”

“...Does Onio REALLY count?” Izzy sticks her tongue out at you. You roll your eyes and mumble out “Whatever.” and think to check back with the Lookout. ‘Tien, Momma Bird, what’s-?’

‘Gohan and Trip were nearly trapped in the Pendulum Room during the monster’s attack. We’ll be able to get them out, but... they’ve found the final Dragon Ball, and managed to make a getaway.’

...Crap. Crapcrapcrap. “H-how?! How’d they find it?!” you exclaim aloud.

‘The place Trip was storing it was opened up in the monster’s attack. We failed to stop them from taking it. Keli was able to prevent them from getting something worse, though.’

Oh you do not like the sound of that. “What could be WORSE than them having the last Dragon Ball?!” That catches Chuu Lee and Izzy’s attention.

‘Far more dangerous ones.’ Tien replies. ‘Keli was able to get Bisa and the one with him from obtaining them, but Bisa held her off long enough for the alien to make off with the last proper Dragon Ball. And he seems to have the thing they were trying to open using the Dragon Balls as well.’

You shake your head. This is just getting worse. “How was he able to slip past you?”

‘He was able to get one of the talismans on Maple right as she was about to stop him. I had to get it off her before he took control, but he managed to slip past us with the Dragon Ball.’

You clench your fists. Damn it. “Tien... are Gohan and Trip safe?”

‘They are. We’ll have them out soon.’

You have the most experience with them and how they behave, you have Instant Transmission to keep track of them, and you’ve got a good deal of speed on your side. If they have all the Dragon Balls they should be summoning Shenron soon. Izumi, stick with her to give her some support. Chuu Lee, you, Lapis, and Krillin will need to spread out and stay on alert in case that monster returns, and you sticking around Monster Island might be for the best right now. Piccolo’s going to be at the Lookout soon. This clear?’

“Sure thing.” you affirm. “Ready to go, Izzy?”

“What kind of big cousin would be if I wasn’t?” she asks.

‘I doubt they are all that far from the Lookout at this rate, but we can’t take any chances. I need the two of you to be on alert. Ready?’

“Ready!” the three of you shout together.

‘Then let’s do this.’

“Oh, and Tien... tell Keli I said thanks. She probably saved our butts.”

‘Heh, I’ll do that. Best of luck.’

You teleport yourself and Izzy to Korin’s Tower and take flight, scanning around the area for a bit for any suspicious Ki signatures. This is going to take a lot of searching...

“I am probably missing a lot of details here, but from the sound of things... this is kinda Gohan’s fault.” Izzy tells you critically. “He should’ve known better.”

You frown. “...I know. I didn’t like it when mom brought it up at breakfast, but this is just... it’s not like he knew ALL this was going to happen.”

“You said it yourself, you know how dangerous these guys could be. And Gohan should have been well aware of that danger too. Even if he was trying to do this for a good reason, he should have really let everyone know what’s going on sooner.” She looks away. “...You think he’s mad about something and lashing out this way?”

“He... didn’t seem mad last time we talked. But... maybe there was something on his mind. Something that-” You stop yourself as you sense something bolt away at high speed. “IZZY, THERE!” The two of you pick up the pace and follow, you attempting to lock on to him with Instant Transmission... and failing to find him as his Ki signature vanishes.

But he does at least lead you in an interesting direction. A large, dense forested area near Yahhoy. You and Izumi touch down near it. Don’t have a lot of time to spare, but they must know you’re coming.

The time to be subtle and try to infiltrate this place, whatever it is, is long gone. “Izzy. I’m going for the direct approach. Back me up!”

“Y-you sure?”

“We don’t have time for anything else! HRRAAAAH!” Powering up and letting your golden aura flare around you, you burst forth into the forest. You first enter a thick and sinister-feeling fog, blowing it away with the Bansho Fan and some Wind-boosted Kiais, making sure that Izzy isn’t affected by it as well. You keep flying forward, trying to sense around for any Ki signatures, coming across what you think is one, only to end up turned around. You try to fly straight ahead, but end up running in circles.

“Peppa, they’ve got some illusions going on here. I’ve got an idea though...” Izumi brings her hands to her face. “You got those goggles on tight?”

“Yeah, but-”

“Good. Let’s light this place up with some heavenly sunlight! SOLAR FLARE!” she yells out, a blinding light, even stronger than a normal Solar Flare, filling the area. And... dispelling the illusion!

“Now THAT is a neat trick.” you praise.

“Not gonna last for very long, let’s go!”

“Hey, while we’re at it, can you Clothes Beam me up something, got a joke I wanna use on them...” you request of Izzy. She rolls her eyes when you tell her what it is, but obliges with your request, giving you a hat.

Blasting forward at top speed, your next encounter is a good deal more normal. Relatively, at least. A horde of at least 30 ninja stand in your way. “SON PEPPA! YOU SHALL NOT-!”

“PIZZA’S HERE, PUNKS! DELIVERY, NOT DIGIORNO!” You twirl your Power Pole above your head, handing Izzy the Bansho Fan to help keep them away as you start plowing through the horde. You don’t really try to keep them down, you just put everything you can into forcing them away from you as you make your way deeper into the forest, finally reaching a large fortress. You punch through the gates, a couple dozen more ninja waiting for you.

As you try to fly forward again, you find yourself stuck midair. A tall dark-skinned lady holds her hands out, trying to keep you from moving with telekinesis. “That’s far enough!”

“LIKE HELL IT IS!” You power up further as Izzy fends off a group of turtle ninja. “Unleashing a monster on the Lookout is DEFINITELY taking things too far! I’m not letting you guys take this any further and release something worse!”

She... looks confused. “Monster? What monster?”

The skies darken. Up shoots a bolt of yellow light, one that forms into the unmistakable image of Shenron. The lady’s grip on you loosens just a bit, enough that you’re able to break free by yelling out “RAIO-KEN!”

As you finally reach Shenron, and you see an aged pink alien in ninja garb standing before the Eternal Dragon. “Oh great and mighty one...”

I'm not entirely sure how it goes, but if rolls are done by vote order then the blasting failed and the wishing for something succeeded. Or the sequence of write-ins kicked in and we failed at stopping his wish but murked him good.

“Well. That speeds this up.” the alien chuckles. “Great Eternal Dragon, release from the warrior the se-!”

“GLACIER SURGE!” Izzy yells, a blast of freezing water engulfing him ice up to his neck.

The pressure on your throat disappears. You charge up a Kamehameha, but at the same time, call out to Shenron before the alien can finish his wish, “Eternal Dragon! Bring back all the good and innocent people who died since the arrival of Babidi!”

“YOUR WISH HAS BEEN GRANTED.” the dragon’s booming voice declares. “FAREWELL.”

The Dragon Balls shoot off into the sky, and you finally finish charging a Kamehameha. You thrust your hands forward and fire forth at the alien. The ice around him shatters and he’s consumed by your attack. The beam blasts him several kilometers away... with him beaten, broken, and unconscious, but alive and able to be captured.

The music box finishes playing its tune, and opens up. Swirling energies erupt from it and begin to take the shape of a man with an orange Mohawk and pointed ears... playing an ocarina, one that seems to be playing the same tune the music box was. The box promptly explodes in a flash of light. He touches down on the ground. The music stops. He glances around. Behind you you sense several of the ninja try to barge in, only to stop, in awe of the figure. They fall to their knees, all of them bowing to him. The man stares coldly and asks, “...Why have I been freed?”

Please forgive me for elaborating: I don't think we've viewed Peppa through the lens of Izumi or Gohan when they're in the same room once so far.

Every interaction between them is from Peppa's POV, she's the one that takes priority. We have not viewed Peppa outside of herself, so we don't really know how she operates when Kato's at the wheel, or how the other MCs would interact with her given Kato's options.

We found out Izumi had some choice words about Gohan this session, stuff we hadn't really taken a stance with her on since it's been a while since we've played as her and she's been pretty removed from the context of things. Kato filled in the blank there, and she also has Izumi display a predatory personality when it comes to messing with her cousins, which we haven't gotten to experience under her since the perspective when that happens is Peppa's.

Peppa is an attempt at a character, but in reality she's a vehicle for the voters to decide things through, and the other two MCs are not so, not to the extent that Peppa is. Peppa's presence as an actor inhibits her presence as a character. When we switch to another protagonist (which is most likely when they're not in the same room as Peppa), it feels like a breath of fresh air. That's all well and good, but it shouldn't feel claustrophobic to play the lead character by comparison.

I could use some breathing room from a lead character who the story's based around and go with the other two to do their own thing for a while.

Playing as Gohan was cool, but he's only a secondary character in Peppa's story. It isn't that I would like to play as Izumi or Gohan more, I would like to play as Peppa less.

It's like playing God of War. Peppa's style is to go Square, Square, Triangle, DODGE! and you repeat this until you win the game. Gohan's style is parrying and grabs, as well as using the spells as much as he can even though he's gonna run out quickly. Izumi's style is the "You get hit, You die!" mode where she has to use all the spells, all the combos, and all the luck she can muster to win. Sure, Peppa's the most reliable, but I don't wanna do Square Square Triangle DODGE all the time.

Why should it matter that she started this? Makes me mad seeing how the other two MCs actions don't matter as much as Peppa's. Sure, Gohan put something in motion last thread, but he didn't get to deal with the consequences of it. We're left with Peppa dealing with this and fixing things, since the story's about what she's going to do ultimately.

She isn't a character who reacts to things like Gohan and Izumi are, she's the one whose actions determine everyone's fates. Peppa's just the protagonist who gets problems laid on her and sets out to deal with them, even if those problems could be solved by the other two.

That hasn't happened in Tuffle Quest PT tho, everything Gohan and Izzy have done is react to weird shit that Kato left out for them. Peppa acted when she went after the ninjas, and put these events into motion. Izzy tried going after Sky Pirates, Peppa usurped that. Gohan tried making peace between the light and dark protectors of Earth, got imprisoned for that. Peppa's the only one who can do things and not get taken over in importance or put in a bubble while others do the fighting for her.

I think that Peppa getting involved in this plot thread that she herself started fits. She is very specifically involved in this and has been since the beginning. Gohan's actions also caused part of this situation, yes, but neither Gohan not Izzy have the direct connection to everything that has been going on with the overarching thing. We as players took action in this, because it makes sense for her character. You don't like this, but I and I assume others are fine with it (and if not then speak up, let's not stifle those opinions).

You remember how we didn't get a choice to pick the MC this week? Or play as Izumi since that's the order we went with? Choosing Peppa as the POV for this round was a conscious decision on Kato's part.

Besides, I don't think I'm the sole player who sees things this way. Take, for instance, the tournament. Peppa decided not to help Izumi out when she was getting ambushed by a Galaxy Soldier. Why would she do that?

Izumi doesn't have a PL nearly as high as Peppa in her base form, nevermind the Herans who can transform as well. She also got through her preliminary match by the skin of her teeth. So why would Peppa leave someone like Izumi to fend off that alien with just 19?

Could be a reason like, "Peppa acknowledges Izumi's pride and want to prove herself," but I think the real reason is something else. Like, "The second Peppa steps into the same room as Izumi in that fight, all of Izumi's creativity, efforts, and progress go out the window, and it becomes Peppa Time."

We knew that Izumi would be challenged if she was left to fight that alien without Peppa's help, and it looked fun. I wanted to have fun as Izzy without interference from Peppa, so I voted to not have Peppa interfere.

Neither does Peppa. She looked into it on Cocoa's mention, Cocoa helped her infiltrate a studio where the ninjas meet up, Cocoa got kidnapped by the ninjas and Peppa made an exchange for her. Peppa didn't have to get involved with these ninjas, she forced her way into the middle of it, even when it got her friend in danger.

Gohan has actually met with the ninjas because the ninjas sought out his help. He's more directly involved than Peppa ever was!

“You have been decieved.” Trip tells her. “The one within that music box was sealed away for a reason.”

“I’m... sorry I’m a little lost here.” you state. “Can you fill us in, Trip?”

She looks off towards the monster attacking the city. “A millennium ago, a terrible monster was called forth by a cruel and genocidal race. Aliens who believed themselves the only lifeform of any worth in the universe. And they arrived on this world to bring forth the monster you see before you. The Phantom Majin, the avatar of the great Demon God... Hirudegarn.”

“D-Demon God?” you repeat. “Wait, it’s a Majin like Ozotto and that Buu thing Babidi was trying to free?”

Yurin brings her hand to her chin. “...Then this can still work out.”

“E-excuse me?” Trip blurts out.

“Ga- ...Tapion, was able to bring this monster down, was he not?” Yurin questions.

“This world’s Kami, a powerful and noble wizard and the man who was leading the two, is the one who was able to stop it, but the monster was never truly destroyed. Merely sealed away inside Tapion and his brother. Tapion is the one trapped inside that music box, along with half of Hirudegarn.”

“How do you know all this, Trip?” you ask.

She looks down. “Beelzebub helped the young man’s brother before his return to Earth. I learned through him. I should have seen this coming. I should have done more to-”

“No, no, this is perfect!” Yurin interrupts. “Even if this monster couldn’t be destroyed, it could be sealed away, right?” She gestures in the direction of the three, all of them far off now. “I implore you, please, let me see how this monster was sealed away. If Tapion and his brother survived this, then there truly is a way to stop threats to the Earth.”

“Yurin you do not understand, the both of them still had to be sealed themselves! They could be released at-” Trip stops herself, both her hands smacking into her face. “That was his plan all along.”

“Willingly. Does the one who gave you the box know of your Talisman trick?” Trip asks next. Yurin’s face goes white, failing to give a response.

Oh. Oh that’s not good. “Well, can’t you just end the simulation then?”

“Yosei, that’s enough, end it now!” Trip calls out. And... there’s no response. “...Yosei, we need to come back!” No response again. “Yosei! ...Sugoro! Popo!” Nothing. “How did they move so quickly...?”

Yurin looks down. “...I’m sorry.”

“I am at fault here as well. I should have taken more precautions.” Trip shakes her head.

Looking forward with determination, you declare, “He might have pulled one over on us, but that doesn’t mean we’re helpless! We’ll learn from the past, of how they stopped him then and how we can stop it now!”

Trip smiles. “You really are your mother’s son.”

You smile back at her, then declare, “Let’s go!”

The three of you follow the trio that went to face Hirudegarn, Tapion and Minotia hopping up to the top of an arch. You see the two of them hold out ocarinas. “...This really is our only chance.”

“We can do it, big bro. Just like Kami said.” the younger of the two affirms. “We won’t fail!”

“...Princess. I promised you I’ll make it through this.” Tapion brings the instrument to his lips, and starts to play his tune. Minotia follows. Hirudegarn’s rampage slows, the monster looking back at them with unrelenting fury.

“How did that music box end up on Earth, anyway? And what of the other one?” you ask Trip, watching carefully. So... music seems to weaken it. Wow this feels familiar.

“Sent away to the furthest corners of the universe from one another.” she responds. “This world is actually in the southern quadrant.”

Hirudegarn starts to approach them both. The... two look like they’re barely even aware of it, almost like they’re in a trance. Wait... are they? Agh, the monster’s coming right for them!

You keep your cool, observing carefully what the two brothers are doing. The music they play seems hauntingly beautiful, and yet strangely familiar. Kinda reminds you of you and Pantea playing... boy this is quite a coincidence. Hirudegarn’s massive arm tries to crash down on top of Tapion, only for him to effortlessly dodge away. Like... it wasn’t that he just knew it was coming, he knew exactly when to dodge the blow, and did so effortlessly.

Hirudegarn collapses to one knee, roaring our in anguish and rage. As it tries to stand, you hear someone running towards it. The Kami, he has a sword drawn and ready to strike. Is he going to try to chop it to pieces? Wait... that sword, there’s something... familiar about it. Almost as if you’ve seen it bef-

“That’s Bra’s sword!” you declare. “I’d know it anywhere!”

Trip nods. “A blade of evil’s bane. And this is what it is capable of in the right hands.”

The Kami leaps into the air at Hirudegarn, and swings his sword. In one quick slash, it... completely cleaves the monster in two. Hirudegarn separates at the torso, roaring and clawing at the ground. Wait... it’s been chopped in half but it’s barely any weaker. “What the...?”

“TAPION, MINOTIA, KEEP PLAYING!” the Kami calls out to them. You watch as he plants the sword in the ground. He brings his hands forward, making a triangular shape with them, placing his thumbs on the pommel. Energy flows through both him and the blade. “Your evil shall bring no further harm, abomination! KAIKOSEN!” A golden light shines in his hands...

And the top half of Hirudegarn begins to vanish, still flailing and clawing at the ground. You feel the monster’s energy flow into Tapion. A few moments later the bottom half vanishes, flowing into Minotia. Once the monster’s Ki is completely sealed, the two stop playing their ocarinas. Tapion smiles. “...We did it.”

The Kami collapses, the two brothers running to his side. “My Lord, what’s wrong?”

“A... a part of my divine energy was used up in that seal.” He’s helped up by the both of them. “I did all I could to seal him into you both. But... I do not know if it is enough. The monster has been stopped. But now your lives are the only things holding it back.”

A melancholic look appears on their faces, but the two smile regardless. “...A small price to pay after the loss of so many lives.”

“The... the Kashvar will hunt you both down, they will never give up until the monster is freed or they themselves are brought to justice.” the Kami states. “Tapion, Minotia... we must... we must... agh...”

Minotia helps him walk. “Hey, hey, take it easy, you’ve lost enough strength as-is.”

“...My brother and I must ourselves be sealed away. That is what you are trying to tell us.” Tapion comments. He picks up the sword. “If that is what it takes for the world to be given peace once more, I will accept. But Minotia-”

“Oh no, you’re not doing this again, big bro!” the boy calls out. “If you’re going to be sealed, I will be too.”

Suddenly it feels like a minor tremor hits the whole area. A surge of Ki shakes the very air. Tapion and Minotia both flinch. “W-what was...?”

“A-as I feared... Hirudegarn’s presence will only grow stronger the closer the two halves are to one another.” The Kami laughs weakly. “Some God I turned out to be...”

“...My Lord, perhaps the war council will know the best course of action. You must do what you can to rest.”

Trip looks over to Yurin. “...And so you see. Even though the beast was sealed, Hirudegarn was not completely defeated. This was merely pushed off to another generation.”

You look over to her too, and then notice curiously that she’s making the same symbol with her hands that the Kami did. “While true, it still gives us something we can work with. Hmm... it was using the principle of the Tri-Beam, but drawing upon other energy sources, and not directing it into an attack...” She looks over to the three. “...May I ask them about how they preformed the sealing?”

Trip pinches the ridge of her nose. “Are you purposefully missing the point?”

That's why she should be able to ask. If Yurin wishes to pursue this, the logical step would be trying to force Trip to make her Earth's Kami, at which point things have gone entirely off the rails.
Planetary threats get removed, not befriended.

I wonder what would happen if Towa survived Earth blowing up and didn't teleport away. Would the lack of atmosphere and flood of solar radiation get her?

She gives you an exhausted and disapproving look, but you raise your hands. “No, no, really, I get it. I understand what you’re saying here. This is a temporary situation at best. Something that can only be used as a last resort. But the fact of the matter is that it did work, even if temporarily. Like the Mafuba, managing this kind of sealing technique gives us one more option in protecting the world, risky as it may be.”

Yurin smiles appreciatively. “Thank you, Gohan.”

“You’re welcome. But Yurin, please understand, Trip too has a point on why this doesn’t really work out. It isn’t the best solution out there, especially not for what you’re trying to achieve. It postpones the issue for threats like this, not solves. Even if you want to have dangerous foes fear coming here, things like this could make it attractive for those foes. That guy who tricked you into helping him is one example, isn’t he?”

She tenses up, looking away. “...I guess you’re right about that.”

“It isn’t something to rely on. But it doesn’t hurt to understand how they did what they did. We can reach a compromise here.” You smile humbly. “Is this okay with you, Trip?”

She sighs loudly. “Seems you’ve inherited your mother’s smarts as well. Very well.”

The two of you start running towards the trio, only for Yurin to trip on a rock and faceplant in her excitement. You hear her grumble loudly, but push herself up and continue on. Tapion, Minotia, and their Kami look back at you all, Tapion himself gripping the sword. “W-who are you?”

Trip raises her hand. “Do not be afraid. We come in peace, as individuals who seek understanding. I am the Kami of another world. This lady here, Yurin, wishes to learn from you.” They give an odd look when hearing her name, but she stays polite.

“My name is Son Gohan. We saw you stop that monster and seal it away, and we didn’t want to interrupt what you were doing during it.” You walk to Tapion slower, the man lowering the sword. “How was that able to cleave such a beast?”

“The Sword of Braves is an ancient relic.” their Kami responds. “Blessed by our ancestors and the gods themselves, it was used to bring down the beast in times past. The sword itself is blessed by the gods with the power to destroy such evils. Rrgh...” He winces, Minotia helping him find a place to sit.

“That technique you used, how did you do it?” Yurin asks him.

“As the Guardian of my world, I am granted a small amount of the divine power of creation. I used that in combination with the spells I learned when I was a young wizard, the ones that cast out evil spirits. R-rrghh...” He winces again.

Trip leans down to him, bringing her hands up and breathing out “Samma Kammanta” in addition to helping heal his more minor injuries. “...You sacrificed some of your Divine Ki to do so, as I assumed.”

He nods. “The power of the Sword of Braves too weakened Hirudegarn’s might. I had to channel that as well. The ocarinas Tapion and Minotia were able to use likewise were designed to send back evil spirits like Hirudegarn. Relics like the sword.”

“Do you know what kind of enchantments were given to the sword?” both you and Yurin seem to ask him at once, the two of you sharing an awkward laugh after.

“I sadly have not been able to decipher the ancient magics used in its creation. But I know how to harness them. Still... it is no longer my place to carry the blade.” He smiles up at Tapion. “In order to ensure Hirudegarn stays sealed, you must carry it, my apprentice.”

He mumbles “I-I am not yet-”

“You are more than ready.”

“So is it just the enchantment, or is there something special about the blade itself?” you ask.

“Some of the materials used in its construction are only known to the gods. Our world’s scientists have claimed it defies physical laws. Heh.”

Yurin continues to ask him about the magics he’s learned, Tapion and Minotia looking over you curiously. “...Gohan, was it?” the elder of the two brothers asks.

“Yes, sir.”

“Why did you come here? You, specifically?”

“There... are a few reasons, really.” you start, sighing softly. “I messed up on something recently. Something serious, something that nearly let someone take hold of my mind, my insecurities, and use them against me. I screwed up, and in giving in to my anger, I wore myself out and nearly left my world at the mercy of a rampaging devil... or maybe something worse. I don’t want that to happen again. I want to learn from that mistake and become a better person.”

Tapion finds a stump of a pillar to sit down on. “Repentance, then?”

“It’s... more than just that. I was bottling up my worries and anxieties. Finally letting some of them out... it let me see where I was at my worst. It made me feel like I lost sight of something, and that made me a worse person overall because of it. So... I’ve decided to focus my efforts on helping others to try and set myself back on the right path, find what I lost.”

He places his sword down, then rests his elbows on his legs, chin on his hands. “You decided to help these two out, then?”

You look over to Yurin. “...She asked for my help, actually. And... to be honest, her group didn’t seem like they were willing to listen to anyone else. So I... I wanted to help her group resolve their differences with my own, help mediate and try to reach common ground with them. Besides, it didn’t feel right to just leave them there, they want to protect our world too. She was told you, your brother, and your Guardian may know of a way to help us protect our world. And... it didn’t feel right to leave them alone. So I was able to get her to meet with our Guardian, and, well, here we are. Heh.”

“Funny, didn’t know our exploits had reached other worlds already.” he comments curiously. “Especially with Hirudegarn’s attack on our world.”

“We’ve dealt with some fairly serious threats already, but from the sound of things ours pale in comparison.” A friendly smile appears across your face. “Though... I guess, above all, I want to protect my world. My own strength isn’t enough on its own, not when I let myself lose sight of what’s important. You didn’t falter for a moment, Tapion. I need to learn more, to be able to protect my world like you were able to.”

He smiles softly, closing his eyes. “It still took me a long time to get where I am. And even so, the threat of Hirudegarn is not over. But I am willing to do what it takes to prevent his return.” Tapion glances in the direction of his brother, who is still with their Kami. “...I merely wish Minotia didn’t have to suffer the same fate.”

Before you can say any more, the scene around you starts to fade. You find yourself back at the Pendulum Room, Trip and Yurin with you. Behind you is someone repeating “I am so fired I am so fired...!” over and over as people clear away the rubble from the doorway.

Your eyes lock with your mother’s once the doorway is clear. She bolts in and hugs you tight. “Gohan! Gohan you’re safe! Gods, you’re safe!” She... she’s crying.

You hug her tight. “Sorry to worry you, mom.”

She finally lets go, wiping away her tears. “Sweetie... I... I...”

Trip places her hand on Maple’s shoulder. “He is okay. Do not worry.” Yosei and the Space Lemurs hurry in to check on her, apologizing repeatedly.

Yurin places her hands together and gives you a respectful bow. “Thank you, Gohan.”

Mom gives her a suspicious look, hugging you to her again protectively. Tien manages to walk in, Keli behind him looking like she’s only barely recovered from a serious fight. The three-eyed man tilts his head as he sees her. “...Wait a second. You-”

“Three-eyed baldy. So we meet again.” she calls out, squinting at him.

“...Yurin?” he calls out in disbelief.

“Oh good, so you still remember THAT huh?” she grumbles.

“YOU.” Keli growls at her. “Do you have ANY idea what you’ve done?!”

You look around and notice there’s... a good deal more light in this area than there usually is. And then you realize why. There’s an entire chunk of the Lookout missing. “W-what... what happened here?”

“They got the last Dragon Ball. Peppa and Izumi seem like they’re on that guy’s trail.” Keli comments, glaring at Yurin.

“Wait, who has it?” you ask.

“Most likely the one who decieved me. Hoi.” Yurin states. “He’s probably brought it back to our fortress with all the others.”

“Tch. At least that was all he got.” Keli rubs her arm. “Bisa almost made off with a whole other set.”

Most of everyone looks to her with confusion, except for Trip, who’s filled with dread. “Wait, he didn’t... he couldn’t! They’re sealed away deep inside the Lookout!”

“The monster that was with... Hoi was his name, right? Well that thing jostled them loose from wherever they were hiding when it started to tear apart the Lookout.”

“...Oh no. It’s free?” You head out, mom still holding on to you and squinting at Yurin as you move. You look out and see that at least half of the Lookout’s been torn asunder, some smaller chunks floating in the air, but a massive portion of it still missing.

“Not quite. Peppa, Izzy, and Chuu Lee were able to get that thing to Monster Island and help Godzilla take it down. It’s been soundly defeated.” Tien comments.

“It isn’t dead yet. I need to get back before Hoi frees the Warrior trapped within.” Yurin comments. Most everyone glares at her, mom especially looking like she has some choice words for the young woman.

“We must put aside our differences for the moment.” Trip states. “The primary threat is Hoi. We must stop him before he is able to free Hirudegarn.”

“Hasn’t SHE caused enough trouble today?” Keli snipes over to Yurin. “How about you stay here so we can clean up your mess?”
