This is Boruto Quest, a quest set in the universe of Naruto. It is during the generation of Naruto's son, several years after his class has graduated from the Academy. I haven't kept up with the series beyond the end of the original one, so this one is intended to recapture the feel of that time of Naruto. I will not be incorporating the main show or the Boruto movie's plot into the quest, although some recognizable characters will be present.

You play as Takeshi. A highly capable Chunin, who is returning from years of training with Sasuke Uchiha. You've just lost a narrow fight against your longtime rival and friend, Mari.
>>
Mari rolls off and lets you up to your feet, and Rock Lee comes running over with a big smile on his face. He grasps your hands and takes a look at your arms. "Incredible! This was the training that your brother Hideki used to great effect during his career. Even though he was a sensor, his particular style of Taijutsu allowed him to neutralize many powerful attacks. Combine that with a newly invented soap-style jutsu and your highly trained speed ..."

You wipe a bit of the soap off of your face, chuckling. "Yeah, I always have to rinse off after this. Otherwise dirt starts sticking to me.

Mari grumbles. "It makes it way too hard to use any big attacks on him. Even with my Byakugan being able to see Chakra, I don't know if I'd be able to break out of Ephemeral if I got trapped in it. That's one scary jutsu you've learned, Takeshi."

She sends out a Shadow Clone to pick up some of her equipment. "I didn't want to risk using one of these because of how costly they are. Even if it would have been double the threat, I had to keep a long game plan in mind. If I wasted a bunch of chakra to begin with, you might tire me out over time. Can't make any careless mistakes."

You rub the back of your head. "Seems like everyone's been thinking about how to stop me, huh?"

Mari and Lee both chuckle. "We might have come up with a few ideas." she says.

Lee nods. "We weren't sure what you'd come back with though. More than we ever expected."

>A. Training with Sasuke will do that. He pushed me to my limits like I never thought was possible.
>B. I'm only just getting started. I can't be satisfied with a loss like this. Just like the first time I lost, I'll pay you back!
>C. Don't let me get a big head, though. I'm still just an ordinary Chunin, at the end of the day.

"I'm only just getting started. I can't be satisfied with a loss like this. Just like the first time I lost, I'll pay you back!"

Rock Lee gives you a thumbs up. "That's the answer I thought I'd hear!"

Mari stretches, and sighs. "It's the one I was worried about."

"Have you visited Naruto yet?" asks Lee. You shake your head. He grins, in response. "If I were you, I'd head there ASAP. I heard he was really looking forward to seeing you. There's quite a bit of buzz now that Sasuke's students are back in town. The eight of you are considered to be prodigies among prodigies."

This makes you laugh. "It's weird hearing that, these days. I think the most incredible of us is Kichiro, though."

Mari frowns. "I hate to agree. That boy has even less talent than you do, but he's basically a more reckless version of Hanto. Which most of us didn't think was possible."

"He does tend to get hurt every mission." you note. "But it seems like now he's so strong he doesn't really need to rely on the gates, right?"

Mari groans. "Unfortunately, yes. His tactics are simplistic, but it's just so overpowering. He's so hard headed he can even fight through having his chakra points shut down ..."

You rub your joints. You can't imagine somehow forcing yourself to move through that.

>A. Well, I suppose I should go and see what Naruto wants now

>>
"Well, I suppose I should go see what Naruto wants then. Later, guys."

Mari and Lee both wave. "Bye. I'll see you around." she says. "I gotta work later, and go on a mission tomorrow, but we'll be back soon enough."

Lee nods. "Shouldn't be a problem!"

You wave back, and head on your way. It's only about noon. On your way to the Hokage's office, you continue to greet old friends and teachers from before. On your way you see a number of your old classmates, who are going about their lives as usual. The vast majority of them have become Chunin, by now. Except for Ai, funny enough. Despite being ahead of most of the class, her training with Sasuke prevented her from an opportunity to take the exams. You wonder if she'll be signing up for a new one soon.

As you're approaching the front desk, Shizune walks by with a stack of paper. The massive Tonton is trotting nearby as well, shaking the ground slightly with every step. He oinks and sniffles happily as he smells you, his tiny spiral tail shaking with excitement. Shizune grins. "You're back! You're so much taller, too! You can head right in to see Naruto. He should be doing some paperwork, I hope."

You escort yourself in, and knock on the door a few times. You don't hear anything, so you slowly crack it open and peek in. It seems like Naruto's napping on the desk again.

Stepping forward, you tap his shoulder. "Good Afternoon, Lord Hokage. Did you wanna sleep for a bit longer?"

He bats you away at first. "Not now, Shizune.. It's all you can eat.. They lifted the ban.."

You shake him awake. "Naruto! Did you have something you wanted to see me about?"

He lurches up, shocked. "Takeshi! It's you! You made it back from the trip in one piece, huh?"

At once, he seems totally awake. You grin. "Yeah, I somehow made it."

Naruto nods. "I'm sure your training was quite the experience. I went on a similar journey with Jiraiya, one of the three Sannin. That's where I set the foundation for most of my best techniques! Anyway, I've got some work for you if you're interested. At the end of the week, four days from today, you, Ai, and a third member that's yet to be decided will be going to the Grass Village. There are rumors of roving band of leftover cultists from several years ago. Apparently they gathered what shinobi they had left and became ordinary bandits. Seeing as how you two had a critical hand in taking out their leaders, I thought you'd be up for it.
>>
>>3202444

"Of course." you say. "Though I can't speak for Ai."

Naruto smiles. "I've already spoken to her. She agreed, naturally. She's one of our most loyal shinobi. We're considering moving her directly into ANBU training, as opposed to going through the exams. She's really quite too skilled for that, now.."

You grin. "I was thinking the same thing."

>A. Naruto, would you like to spar with me later today once I've rested some?

You exit the building. As you start to walk back to the Academy, an intense feeling of nostalgia washes over you. The leaves all fall around you slowly, and the sun starts to dip low as the afternoon warms the village. All of your experiences here wash over you.

Finally, you approach the building and it's halls. On the steps in front, is where you found the twisted body of a young woman from your village. That was your first taste of the coldness that the Jashinists brought to the world.

On that mission that followed, you feared for your friend's lives like never before. It was because of the sacrifices of everyone that you were able to make it. Mirai, Hanto, and all of your friends.

When Kichiro and Hanto fought the Four-Winged Dragonfly, a tailed beast all on their own, you could never forget the helplessness you felt. Or when you, Boruto, Sarada and Mitsuki all fell to Shozuku in your first encounter with him.

How time and time again, the monstrous boy lashed out at the world. Upheld by a sick immortality, that let him carry on under the deepest wounds.

The world is still hurting from those events, even though he's gone. At the time, you felt such a thrill from defeating such a terrible foe. But the memory of him begging in fear as he died still echoes inside of you.

You head into the Academy, and start to sort through the various material. So many more advanced techniques feel open to you.

That said, Sealing Jutsu is a VERY solid pick if we are to expand his tricky arsenal (something Takeshi excels at)

Boil is great but under no circumstances should Takeshi specialise. He doesn't have the raw talent to go toe to toe with the abundance of specialists out there.

Inspired by recalling your past, you swiftly pick through a large number of books on various subjects relating to both chemistry, chakra control, and fire and water release techniques. As well as the book on combination elements that you'd previously read. Not to mention any information relating to Acid Techniques that's been established since you've been gone.

It's about a dozen large textbooks in general, and you pour through them all while taking a various groupings of notes. There wasn't ever really a chance to study out in the wilds, so you've been hungry to pour yourself into some research with it's help. Part of you wonders if that was Sasuke's intention.

For now, you focus on starting the development of possibly creating an Alcohol based class of jutsu. From what you understand, with the right balance of components, you'll be able to replicate a vast variety of substances. Through that, many new branches of techniques are possible. You speculate you could even emulate other elemental effects through chemical processes!

Your eyes burn brightly as you tear through the material.

---

That's all for tonight folks. Sorry for the short thread, but I'll be picking it back up again on Sunday I believe. I just got a call and I'll be having some guests over tomorrow, so I've gotta clean. I will be around for a little while for some questions, however.

>You speculate you could even emulate other elemental effects through chemical processes!
Huh, interesting, if a bit roundabout. Making the components rather than the end product is novel and difficult to predict.
>>
>>3202559
Thanks for running!
So, Dragon Boxing. Would it be worth it picking it up to improve our Taijutsu? Could we do it with invisible methanol fire, even if it's not practical?
>>
We fucking need a jutsu that blasts the enemy in extremely high alcohol content. Instant incapacitation

Lighting your hands on fire is dangerous. Lighting your hands on TOXIC INVISIBLE fire is hilarious.

>>
>>3202541
Genma's squad and possibly Naruto know it, plus the info on it would be stored somewhere the Hokage could access. Truth is finding it wouldn't be so difficult, hell Naruto would probably give us the material to figure out ourselves if we ask. It's just so difficult to learn that the only person that figured out how to do make them through Tobirama's notes was so good he became fourth hokage. Thing is I actually am confident that Takeshi could do it too, but it would be so difficult and require so much time learning seals along the way that I would prefer we either but that research into enhancing our underdog seal or just building up on our boil release.
>>
>>3202586
Jokes aside, methanol fire is absolutely a useful 'surprise!' utility. In actual ninja combat you only need to fool the enemy once to kill them, and a plume of nigh-imperceptible fire will do the trick to anyone who doesn't have Bullshit Eyes.
>>
>>3202586
Jesus, imagine making a whole sub-sect of boil release that converts versions of fire jutsu into using invisible fire
>>
>>3202605
>>3202608
For added bullshit, Takeshi could mix actual fire and methanol fire, so while the foe can feel the heat, they may mistakenly attribute it to the visible fire, not the invisible fire they're bound to stumble into. It's very, very cruel.

>>3202608
At least he's not the guy who invents Heavy Metal Poison release or something equally inhumane.

Reposting some old ideas for Boil Release from old threads
Starting with Soap stuff.

Lethal attack Jutsu
>Melting Mist Jutsu
>Soap Bullet Jutsu
>Soap Dragon Jutsu
>Soap Senbon Jutsu (upon penetration or being blocked they revert into their corrosive base form)
>Soap String Jutsu (a Sticky Binding rope/string that when broken reverts into it's corrosive form)

Nonlethal
>Bubble Clone Jutsu (Clones that explode in a POP of concussive force when destroyed)
>Soap Binding Jutsu (Create solid and Hardened soap as bindings (or anything really) for transporting prisoners, can be sticky or slippery)

And just a few of the non soap related things, please add to the list if you can.

>Alcoholic Mist Jutsu (many extremely varied and deadly uses, No sane Fire user would cast flame jutsu while inside of it)
>Water Destruction Jutsu (Certain powerful basic compounds will literally separate the Hydrogen and oxygen of water upon being introduced) (Destroy a water attack coming at you and then immediately follow up with Great Fireball jutsu for a massive explosion)
>Chlorine Gas Jutsu(basically war crimes the jutsu, this compound is just chlorine in a gaseous state at room temperature. Its comparatively basic chemical makeup makes it one of the simpler jutsu we could do to start out while being extremely deadly)

There were a ton of other ideas, but I don't feel like scrounging for anymore, I'm tired.

I had an idea for a boil release jutsu I thought you guys might like.

Perfected Pulse Jutsu: The user gains total control over the pH and temperature of their blood as well as where it goes in their body. This means blood loss can be halted in a fraction of a second and the the buildup of lactic acid can be countered by rendering the blood in it its vicinity more basic, allowing the user to fight without muscle fatigue until the buildup of salts is too much for the user's cardiovascular system and kidneys to handle. As a side benefit, the user is more aware of his adrenaline and other hormones that affect blood flow (adrenaline causes blood to get pulled into muscle tissue).

And an alcohol jutsu.

Fermentation Jutsu: The user must make physical contact with an open, bleeding wound. He converts a small amount of the glucose in the target's blood into alcohol. The more chakra the user spends and the longer the user maintains contact the more inebriated target will become, leading to alcohol poisoning fairly quickly and even death. The user can also just use this on, say, syrup, and get pure alcohol. Not safe for consumption unless diluted, useful for improvised incendiary weapons.

Thoughts?

Though Boil release will give us the power needed to keep up with everyone else and we still need to boost up our strength to three so our striking power stronger overall. Also, and I can't stress this enough. Learning Shadow Clone is key if we want to train more. Especially since we apparently rarely win one on one fights after the time skip.
>>
>>3204003
We already effectively have far greater strength simply due to our speed combined with the water-hardening technique. Like, we can't lift as much as someone who's 3.5, but our punches still do about the same amount of damage. Our striking power is insane with that combo.

Shadow clone would honestly be best used for studying. While more durable than other clones, one good hit is all it takes to get it to dispell. Fuck, it could fall over, bite its tongue and poof, there goes 90% of our chakra.

The real strength of SC is that upon dispelling, all the knowledge they gain is transferred back to the ninja who did the jutsu. I don't need to tell you how broken that can be, but the initial chakra cost is still too insanely high to ever be useful outside of training imo, but not really physical training either. Imagine sacrificing 90%% of your stamina at the beginning of the day, only to get a training partner out of it. Not really the most efficient, especially if we're going to be training other jutsu.

Shadow Clone is nice for us to have, but not really essential unless we're devoting that clone to just staying inside studying while we do other shit. I say this because our chakra reserves are simply not large enough to support more than 1 at a time, and even then we'll be exhausted afterward.

>>3203888
Fermentation jutsu seems a little impractical, but keep thinking stuff up man.
>>
>>3203888
>>3204003
>>3204135
Boil clones- Clones made of several non-touching chemical mixtures, when they go pop? The chemcials mix creating a chemical explosion that blankets the immediate area in highly caustic materials.

They also can draw from themselves to make boil attacks. Similar to water clones and water jutsu.

Basically our evil twins jutsu but in reverse.
>>
>>3204135
Reading the Wiki on Naruto It turns out Shadow clones aren't quite as gimped as you believe. The way shadow clones are used Is they divide your chakra Into fractions, but effectively create near-true clones of yourself. This means shadow clones can sustain wounds to a degree and not just poof on a rock. Though It Is not listed on the Wiki, I seem to remember that chakra control apparently helps with shadow clone creation (Even though the base recipe Is splitting your chakra even) though I'm not exactly certain how and I could be wrong. I seem to remember Bort and Tsuki abusing this to use shadow clones safely as genin. Additionally, I also seem to remember that upon losing a shadow clone or dispelling It you receive a portion of the chakra It retained back. All of this said, I don't know how Mini is approaching them and for all we know they just have a basic 'high cost per clone' rather than a chakra split.

In any case- using clones to study seems Ideal. For sanity's sake, It may be best to use clones to study similar subjects rather than picking several topics so It would theoretically be easier to process. For example, we could go to the library and read up on multiple medical textbooks, or study multiple genjutsu at once.

For physical training, shadow clones might be good to improve our technique. Since we could fight against ourselves In a pure taijutsu or kenjutsu spar, we could pick out flaws In our style by seeing It first hand.

And finally, while I agree that our striking power Is certainly not lacking I would like to round out our physical training over time simply because It is wise to not fall behind In one area, even strength. After all, If someone sufficiently outclasses us In strength how can we block their attacks without our guard being blown back? For those who really want to hit hard though, we can pursue both the Gates and Sarada/Sakura's chakra punch mastery technique that lets them mimic super-strength.
>>
>>3204135
How is it impractical? The jutsu basically says, "don't let me get ahold of you in a grapple for so much as five seconds because now you're drunk and losing". Unless you're Rock Lee, now you just whoop Takeshi harder.
>>
>>3204234
Another thing we can use them is to test our more risky boil jutsus without harming our real body.
>>
>>3204244
It's not going full Orochimaru If you conduct the questionable and deadly experiments on yourself, BRILLIANT ANON!
>>
>>3204249
On second thought, we get the memory so we might develop PTSD. Still worth It though.
>>
>>3204251
If the Ephemeral training with Sasuke didn't give us any trauma we should be fine, maybe?
>>
>>3204242
Because if Takeshi managed to get that close with enough time to preform a jutsu, he could have probably just gone for lethal with a strike from his tanto. Debilitating someone is only gonna be really good if it can be done from a distance safely and it will need to be more effective and easier to deliver than the stock poison Takeshi uses.
>>
>>3204274
Actually, a super-dense alcohol poison would work wonders you know. We land senbon quite often If we make an opening for them.
>>
>>3204234

>for all we know they just have a basic 'high cost per clone' rather than a chakra split.

I assumed it was both.
First you use the initial chakra cost, which is massive, then you're left with a fraction of your power after that. I always assumed it was something like 80% of our current reserves, then split would leave us with 10% in the end. And while you do get chakra back, there's no way you get more than you put in initially. The clone would have a finite amount of chakra and be unable to generate more, unlike Takeshi. The clone is most likely using this chakra to stay alive, which is why it also has a time limit. If a clone runs out of chakra, you don't get chakra back. At least, that's how I thought it worked.

Could be wrong though, but the ability is so broken that I assumed the cost would have to be massive otherwise everyone would be using it.

The amount of damage a clone can take is shown in the show to be pretty much just one solid hit, which ain't great if you want to physically train. They're only useful in a straight fight if you have a ton of them. The main use would be recon, have a clone sneak into an enemy base, dispell, then you have a ton of info on their base with no risk to yourself.

Also, we can't do everything at once mate, doing the gates, on top of boil, on top of chakra enhanced strength, on top of physical training, on top of doing missions is just not realistic. We're going to have to specialize at least somewhat if we want to keep up. I'm thinking a majority of training into Boil, because it covers most of our bases at the same time. Branching out from that is necessary as well, but we might end up as a master of none if we just try training everything.

There's also the problem of just needing down time to hang out with our friends. Takeshi might be autistic, but I don't think people would appreciate seeing him lose himself in powerleveling, letting relationships atrophy.

>If someone sufficiently outclasses us In strength how can we block their attacks without our guard being blown back?

We dodge, which is why we have such high speed.
>>
>>3204281
That's not a bad idea since it would let Takeshi use the shuriken heating technique to ignite them instead if he wanted to. He could probably replace the stock poison with something like that.
>>
Shadowclones bruv
>>
We should ask Mini how Shadow Clone chakra consumption will work. Secondly, achieving Jonin (or an equivalent) is practically
inevitable, so I think pursuing shadow clones now isn't actually going to be the best use of time

>>3204297
>We're going to have to specialize at least somewhat if we want to keep up
I disagree. Takeshi lacks the raw talent to go toe-to-toe with other specialists. His strength lies in his large, unconventional and unpredictable arsenal, not in a niche.

That said, Boil suits this 'style' of his in that its potential applications are vast. Specializing only in Soap is a bad idea, but having a few situational soap abilities that can work in tandem with other skills is a good idea. This is why I'm glad the notion of alcoholic-boil is catching on, since with minimal investment (relatively) we can have a new, practical tool.

Note: I'm not suggesting Takeshi pursue gates. The gates are a very 'brute force' option and I don't think Takeshi would benefit from such an approach as anything but a last resort.
>>
>>3204794
>ignoring the "at least somewhat" part of my post

I know the schtick senpai, but my point was focusing on too many different techniques at once is a bad idea. If we "specialize" into Boil, we're upping our versatility even more.
>>
>>3204794
>Note: I'm not suggesting Takeshi pursue gates. The gates are a very 'brute force' option and I don't think Takeshi would benefit from such an approach as anything but a last resort.

What If we run Into someone like Madara way way down the line, where we can't make any meaningful progress In a fight without going balls to the wall with taijutsu? Don't think It isn't going to happen eventually, hell at the end of the shozuku fight It came down to raw taijutsu and that's how we beat Salad. Speed taijutsu Is our CQC game, we should have some options that complement It.

I will say though, we don't have to learn It this instant, but learning and mastering the gates, even just for bursts like Hanto does would be supremely useful to have, not to mention the stamina we would gain just through learning and mastering It.

Takeshi will develop his own Taijutsu style. Soap Wrestling.
>>
>>3206147
But we already have tons of options that compliment it. Fucking Guy couldn't beat Madara going 100% with the gates, what makes you think we'd be anywhere near that good?

And don't remind me of the fight with Shozuko, it was one of the few things I think was handled poorly by Mini. Just felt like an asspull where our idea to take him down didn't work for no reason only to have us do some Ippo shit out of nowhere. Don't get me wrong, I love Ippo shit, but it just wasn't appropriate for the situation and as a result didn't feel as satisfying.

We just don't get into the situation's you're suggesting is the actual answer. We're already good with Taijutsu imo, we spent like 20 threads upping it specifically to cover our weakness, as well as multiple years of training offscreen with Sause. I think we're alright on that front.

Honestly, if anything we should work on our Intelligence. We've been coasting off that 3.5 for like 70 threads, having more INT seems like the next logical step if we actually want to cover as many bases as possible.
>>
>>3207006
The int stat is a little disengenuise given that Takeshi is as clever as the anon collective playing him with time stop powers since we can make kiekakus between mini's posts.

Hours pass, and you leave the Academy feeling refreshed. It's not easy for you to stop, but at the same time you don't want to burn out. Many different theories and ideas for techniques are racing through your mind.

As you're on your way out, a familiar voice calls out to you. "Hey! What the heck was all that stuff earlier about?!"

You turn, and see Asuka charge up to you. Kichiro's little sister doesn't look too pleased. You grin. "We were just having some friendly competition. Didn't mean to spook you."

She crosses her arms. "I wanted to watch! I'm gonna be taking my Genin exam soon, so I figured seeing you guys in action would be pretty cool."

You frown. "Oh, I see. That makes sense. Do you not train with Kichiro normally?"

She shakes her head. "We have totally different fighting styles. We both use fire style, but he's way more into Taijutsu than I am."

You chuckle. "I see. Kichiro is kind of a one trick pony."

"Do you have any other skills?" you inquire.

She shrugs. "Well, I haven't exactly mastered Great Fireball Jutsu yet. I can do the Clone Jutsu and Transformation Jutsu okay."

You nod. "I see. So you're pretty good at Ninjutsu, for someone your age."

Asuka cocks her eyebrow. "Screw you!"

"I only meant it as a compliment. If I remember right, your brother hadn't even started learning any of those techniques by your age. It took him a whole other year."

Asuka cross her arms, and huffs. "I don't give a shit about my brother!"

You sigh. "What a mouth ... "

She stomps forward, and points a finger at you. "It doesn't matter how strong he was then, he's crazy strong now! I gotta catch up already! There are classmates who are WAYYY stronger than me, just because of their stupid bloodline jutsus! A measly Fireball Jutsu isn't going to be able to keep up!"

You frown. "No, it isn't. But I know a variety of techniques I could teach you. What style would you like to learn today?"

She blinks. "Huh?"

You give her a thumbs up, and smile. "Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, Genjutsu. A Sealing Jutsu. How to use poisons or special equipment. I can show you whatever you want, just about."

She stops, and thinks for a moment. "How about a Genjutsu, then?"

You have a number of jutsu you could teach her, at her skill level.

"Alright. I can show you one of the first ones that I ever learned. It's pretty useful. You might have already heard of it before, in fact. It's called the False Place Jutsu."

She nods. "Aburame Sensei showed it to us before. It was to highlight how Genjutsu worked, he said. Visual Genjutsu are activated by sending chakra to the brain through the eyes."

You nod. "Correct. Hm, I guess there's no reason we can't just practice here. I'll show you what it's like real quick, just to refresh."

Forming the hand signs that you've burned into your memory, you send a burst of chakra through her eyes as she looks at you. The illusion of a large saint bernard puppy appears next to you. She grins widely, and chuckles. "Cute. So, it's which hand signs again..?"

A few more times you show her, and she starts to practice the technique on you. Every Genjutsu has a maximum distance that you can send the chakra, so you step back down the steps some. She'll have to aim carefully to connect her illusion to your mind.

You can't see chakra like some of your peers, so you're not entirely sure how well she's doing frankly. She's certainly giving it her all though, as the classic signs of chakra exhaustion start to appear. She's sweating and beginning to look weak, after some time. The sun is beginning to set. She grumbles. "I haven't even been able to do it once yet!"

You shrug. "It takes some time. The Leaf Village wasn't built in a day. I should be getting home, but you keep practicing on your own and show me next time!"

She sighs. "Whatever. I'm exhausted anyways."

She heads home, and you do the same. Naturally, your brother is at work. You've got four days before your next mission starts.

After dinner and a movie about an action hero ninja spy, you head to sleep. The next morning your bro has made breakfast, so you take the time to enjoy it with him before he heads to sleep and you go out.

What would you like to do today? There are three days left until you leave for your mission.

You head to Naruto's office, first of all. You're rather curious about who you might be going with on your upcoming mission. It's better to know sooner than later. You might want to train with them a little bit, after all. Everyone seems to have developed quite a bit.

It doesn't take very long to get there. You can't help but use your new speed, as effortless as it is. Just walking around is so sluggish in comparison. While you were staying in the woods, you were pretty much on the move every single day. The distances you were used to traveling as you trained makes the Leaf Village feel small, almost.

Once you arrive, the secretary at the front desk lets you through. Since it's still early in the morning, Naruto hasn't fallen asleep quite yet. He grins as you enter. "Hey there. How can I help you?"

"Do you know who the third member on the mission will be, Lord Hokage?"

Naruto opens up a drawer on his desk, and pulls out a folder. "I haven't asked anyone yet, but a few different people are available. You and Ai are a given, she accepted as well yesterday. Looks like Inojin, Kayo, and Roku are the options. Is there someone you'd prefer I ask first?"

>A. Inojin. He's capable of Ink Ninjutsu and various kinds of Mind-Control Genjutsu
>B. Kayo. She and her partner Akahiko know many strong canine based Ninjutsu and Taijutsu
>C. Roku. The opponent you faced in the preliminaries of the Chunin exam. He knows Medical and Water Ninjutsu, as well as Genjutsu. His Taijutsu is good as well.

"Inojin." you say. "He's got some really powerful support techniques, and his Ink jutsu can provide transportation as well as strong backup. I would like to see the others, but if we're going to the grass village I think he'd be the most useful when you factor in both Ai and I. Though, I also have to ask, will we have any other support when we get there?"

Naruto nods. "Correct. Some Chunin from the Grass Village will meet you at the border and escort you to the believed base. From there you'll take them on as a group, hopefully dispersing them completely from now on. We've heard that they have some powerful shinobi tools as well. Those senbon guns have been getting more popular as the design spread and people began to adapt it. There are considerably more advanced versions than what you initially encountered, so rely on your teammates to keep you up to date on new tactics that we've developed in response. It's probably worth going to the weapon shop yourself. Ten-Ten might be able to help you out."

"Thanks, Lord Hokage." with a bow, you make your exit.

Now what would you like to do? It's still fairly early

You decide to go to the training field, hoping to run into someone who might be available for a bit of sparring. If not, you can always practice developing new jutsu. There were a few more ideas for soap style that you had in mind. As usual, it doesn't take you very long at all to arrive.

As you approach, you realize that someone you haven't seen in quite a while is training by themselves. It's Himawari, and she's going through various Gentle Fist motions and warming up. Much like the other girls, she's grown quite a bit. She's a few inches shorter than you, and her hair is long and spiky now.

She glances over. She has the Byakugan activated, currently. She grins. "At first, I wasn't sure if it was you, Takeshi! Then I saw the Underdog Seal on your chest. You've grown up a lot since you've been gone."

You smile, and rub the back of your head. "Yeah, looks like we both had our growth spurts. I still haven't seen everyone yet, I'm sure it's going to be interesting."

She nods. "How was training with Sasuke and my bro?? He was telling me a bit about it, but he might have made it sound a little biased."

You can imagine that Boruto spins things a bit wildly. You start to tell her about what it was like to learn from one of the greatest shinobi on earth.
