"My, my. This page will never see the light of day again. Hide it among the rest. Burn it if you must. We must uncover all secrets that may harm our Matriarch and the supremacy of Hummkind!" - The Minister of f Indecorous Discoveries

Welcome, Curious friends!

What else is more enticing other than exploring unknown vast seas of a mechanical goddess as a sea captain? Nothing , i wager! Hunt, Trade, Steal, kill. Consume delicious cogs, the world is yours!

The sea and the powers that governs her are mostly uncaring at best. A Scrawny fugitive, A Peerless Prince...all are at the mercy of the sea. Your sea captains will probably die whether from a string of horrible choices or plain old bad luck. You are a fragile little thing (Most of the time). Keep that in mind.

We continue with our second captain, The Languid noble, who seeks a cure for her newly discovered immortal soul. She must act fast or her frail body will surely perish!

A prayer to spine

With the unnatural death of that sea beast, You have just witnessed a merciful act of Spine. She has no room for compassion. Laws are laws on whoever it may be. Without her authority, Chaos would swallow us all.

Most of the nobles like you are godless, why would they need the boon of the gods when they had everything already? The Matriarch herself tolerates their worship in Thernn. You had the same mentality until the damnable curse swept over. Perhaps your whole family was 'blessed' with this immortal soul, they couldn't just contain it like you do.

Your prayer had a small plea for forgiveness. A mistake that was not yours. Somehow, a small burden was been lifted. Spine listens like a heartless mother but a mother nonetheless.

Peril : Yellow exasperation of Spine has decreased (2->1)

Recovery

Without a proper doctor, your crew did what they could. You were properly taken care of in your bed gorging food and bandages in a wasteful manner. Your drinks made these two sea-days pass in a jiffy.

You lost your Affliction: Injury (1->0)
You lost x4 supplies (total 5)

Your first officer has recovered too, his presence alone has improved the morale of your men.
You lost x3 madness (total 34)

The water turns yellow, a thick sludge slowing your ship to a crawl. You must be nearing Oyt, the giant Ashen fish from the outside world who had jumped to its demise. What caused it to be so afraid to dive into the corpse of Kyth? No one knows.

The Ministry of the divine particularities spent decades sealing this giant breach. The Hive bought it from The Matriarch when it first landed for almost nothing. She still holds a grudge against them for this deal; the endless flow of yellow tar has a lot of usages to be ignored. It is too costly to sever precious relations over a rotten bargain however.

Spinebound are the workforce here, that or any Subships outfitted with proper tools. Some parasites inside the Oyt are a notable threat to the tar collectors here.

Oyt

There wasn't much to see at the first glance. The Kerkit had left all the hard labor for the Spinebound. Subships resurfacing filled to the brim with yellow tar to sell for the Hive or Thernn. There was a small platform for the walking bones to dive in the utter darkness below. They return black as night with a full barrel strapped on their back where other normal ships can transport it elsewhere. The giant ribs of Oyt had a small shanty area... a place the fleshless workers can call home.

The men of wings weren't as efficient and participial as Humm. Their architecture are bizarre and too colourful wasting a lot of space and resources on nothing. They were thoughtful enough to number each area for convenience's sake.

Bells

Some Kerkit recognized you as a highborn the moment you stepped in Oty-2. The few Spinebound there averted their sockets away from you. Your Bloodline rarely mingles with commoners like these bar a few adventurous sorts. It felt nice, You still miss those carefree. You have hardship chained to your wrists in this constant endeavor. You must endure this unfair reality.

You recognize the bells ringings on top of the post office. Certain sounds at the perfect frequency can distract Cage , ignoring the barrier of space and time for small objects like documents and small inanimate objects. It allows said packages to 'teleport' to another resonating bell. Of course, the post office has their own ships for normal and cheaper deliveries.

The Kerkit main administrative building was a hollowed out teeth decorated with more of their oh so beloved colours. Both places weren't crowded. Good.

The Observatory

So this is an observatory, You have never seen one yourself, only saw pictures of it. They provide a massive aid to the Ministry of Divine Particularities in their never ending search for any cracks in the skies. This one was a three floored tower with a giant brass telescope. The magnification on that thing must be incredible.

Hardly attended for , that one. You saw various cracks in the outer walls with most of the paint already peeled off revealing rust and ruin. This observatory has no right standing upright, it should have crumbled under its heavy weight long ago. It was only place with a patch of flora in Oyt. Not even natural ones; Carnivorous plants growing from the bony ground, small but with an array of sharp teeth ready to decimate any unwanted intruder. They barked the second you stepped closer to the observatory.

A small window was opened in the second floor, you saw a glaring eye assessing the situation. It quickly retreated to the darkness inside before you heard a sharp whistle which made the plants docile again.

The individual behind the large metal door spent minutes unlocking it ; simple locks, chains and even combination ones. A man with a mad eye and frizzled white hair showed himself. He tripped over as he was quickly rushing to meet you, his poor gait didn't help either.

His left arm kept twitching as he spoke "Who do i owe this pleasure? Has the ministry taken pity on a poor, pooor soul like me? I told them i had enough with the unwashed men they send each and every single damn time! No, no, no..you are not one of them. You are...pretty a-and soft but sickened to the core like poor ol me!" He exclaimed. His mad eye squints at disgust at your company "We'll take it inside, leave your hounds with mine. They'll get along just fine."

>Go with the Obscene Portraitist, alone.
You'll go along.

"No man steps in my home, castle, sanctuary!" A burst of anger escaped his lips "LEAVE, never to return! Take your hair with you, I won't need it. i won't , i won't!" The man quickly returned to the safety of the observatory locking his door tightly. His bloodthirsty plants continued to bark , their teeth are longing for a sizable bite or two. You are not welcomed anymore.

Dry business

A single fractured strip of Oyt bone housed a couple of shops connected to the head via a long wooden bridge. An afterthought you would presume. Most were already closed for good with no sane person to buy them. Some spinebound sat on the dusty benches silently wallowing in their own sorrows waiting to get hired for the usual dirty deed. The few shop owners around were exclusively Kerkit, too stubborn to abandon their spot and start somewhere else. You searched for outlets which might have something worthwhile for you. Not much.

Empty chairs

A Spinebound Kerkit for a bartender? Well that is a first. Normally, they are Humm whom Spine has stilled them among the living to fulfill a purpose whatever it maybe. Their skin and flesh rot but not the bones, that is why the Spinebound peel them away the first chance they get.

You find it weird to see them eating and drinking with no belly to hold the food, it simply floats there before vanishing some time later. Is this out of necessity? Or perhaps a reminder of a distant joy of life lost?

Regardless, you approached the hollowed Spinebound offering to sell Marrowine "Ah good, I was running low already. Not the best of quality but my regulars won't mind a chunk or two in their drinks..."

You lost x5 Casks of Rough Marrowine
You gained x150 skins (total 3550)

The sea is cruel yet it is our livelihood. Your words alone convinced some Spinebound to abandon a life of tar for a long awaited return the sea.You had a fit coughing out of nowhere, you stare at your napkin: Black blood, cold and lifeless.

A surge

You drank the blood of cage, it exploded inside your veins, you had the endurance of a thousand pale officer. The still black heart of yours had turned into a bellowing engine pumping blood at ludicrous speed. You are more than alive! You could take on the whole world!!!

You have gained Boon: Cage's blood (your heart stat will increase to 10 in any heart challenge with trivial ones (green) being automatically winnable for a limited time.)

With your whole crew, you went to Oyt-3 again. You were more than an inconvenience to everyone around and so you were forced to send some of your men back the Alabaster.

You went to the Queen's pawn, a small shop at the farthest tip of the strip, sloshes of yellow
tar constantly clashing with its walls.

A hunched Spinebound with a single arm and a horrible fashion sense sprang out of his folding chair in jubilation "Welcome ! Welcome! Mind the tar!"

Some of your company had to wait outside due to how tiny his shop was, nothing was actually on display apart from useless junks of different sizes.

As your were showing him the unprocessed skin , he rudely interrupted you "Ssssssssh! What are you doing?! you'll get us both in trouble!" He peeked his head outside "Look, fleshy, you better off selling it in that rat island down south. There are two big name fencers somewhere about. One's in that bloated Mont woman and the other guy is a Skin wearer deep inside them crystals."

He kept peeking his head back and forth, paranoia was overtaking him "By Spine, I am honest merchant with honest goods but things here are more drier than a my old bones. I...i'll do you good and buy it for 300 skins. I can give you a fairer price with other LEGAL goods and treasures, my lady."

He looked to his right and left "I see no competition around. So here is the deal, 1500 skins for my upmost dedication in keeping you alive. Let me save lives, yours on top. To the Alabaster

The Emaciated Physician bossed everyone around to clear a room for him and his equipment. He just kept pulling one after another from his small briefcases. In a few hours, The Alabaster had a small sick bay and a lab. His haughty altitude reminded you of yourself in a way.

"I do like this ship, It suits my needs perfectly. Now stand still, this may sting a little." You didn't feel his needle at all as he drew more of your black blood with his syringe. He spent the next hour studying your blood sample under the microscope, writing what seemed to be random notes and scribbles.

"This is stillblood with no coagulant factors, by all rational means, i shouldn't be speaking with you. You should be dead long ago."

There was no way going around it. You had to tell him the nature of your blight "Yes, yes, I see. I knew it had to do with the Matriach and her 'true' immortality. In a fashion, I am an immortal man myself. All the Spinebound technically are. I did all i could imagine in the last two centuries..it is time i find my purpose that is still binding me to this life." He lit another cigarette " I got nothing to counter your past/future immortal soul but if i can get my hands on a little something, i maintain your body long enough for you to find a cure."

You have discovered the oddity needed to increase the heart stats by the Emaciated Physician : Experimental formulas

Catastrophe

From the still sea, a horrible wave has slammed the rickety boat to the Alabaster. While most of the Verminians were either crushed during impact or got riddled with bullets, dozens have made it on board. Some chose to gnaw your crew while the more intelligent ones squeezed themselves through pipes and slits towards any food they could find, soiling it with a plethora of contagious diseases.

When this unfortunate charade was over, you ordered corpses and tainted food to be jettisoned. The last thing you would want in your ship is a plague. You no longer full this burden that coiled around your soul ever since you were in station Montse

The Sungraves

Alas, on your third Sea-day you have reached your destination. Your doctor speaks of Kelige, an Ancestral Kerkit who chose to die here under the cracks of Kyth. The unnatural rays of the so called sun shimmers on the Kelige's wings. The Ministry of Divine Particularities has allowed some cracks to remain unsealed, perhaps to honor the relation between the two races. A rare benevolence shown by the Matriarch.

The smaller island to the west was shelled by the Vieer. A rare mixture of giant and ancient trees enduring the malignant crystalline growth. Still fatal as ever to non Kythians.

There wasn't much to behold ashore. A few small huts for the pilgrims or for the families of the dead. The only notable two structures under the chain of mountains were the harbor and the marrowstone quarry (and its processing winery)

These snowy chains of mountains held the body of ancestral Kerkit, a perilous path would lead you to the top where a small temple shines brightly. At the very bottom were the graves of the winged which were oddly marked by a single forearm sticking from the salt-tainted soil, usually clutching an item of sorts.

A lighthouse was built on the far east of the main island, staving off nearby ships from the shards surrounding the smaller island which will find no trouble in sinking unwary ships.

The place looks miserable enough, The Matriarch should have bought it long ago but the Kerkit will never abandon their spiritual ways. A trio of special Kerkits were waiting for your arrival, These ancestral guards had a galling set of stings along each arm, they retracted it like a sword should they need them. Furthermore, they had an unsettling trunk-like proboscis extended from their masked faces, almost as long as their arms. Its porous nature allowed it to sniff everything about like hounds on wings.

They were quite polite actually, humbling asking for 20 skins per day starting from tomorrow. Seems way more reasonable than the bastards at Station Montse.

The Outskirts

With the Charred devil, you head to silent outskirts. He was too protective of you with his sword already drawn. There used to be a small town there, only its ruined foundations are hidden under salt and unyielding soil. A calamity from the past has turned this place to a forgotten memory

Strange piles of green stones dotted the area. All had circles of pebbles around them marked with scratches. A religious symbol perhaps?

The lighthouse shines from the far shore. Its gentle light is a beacon for a wicked danger below.

A vision

Your eyes are closed yet you see everything. A vision from the past. A town of husks; men and women of iron swimming in their own sorrow. Contraptions and Machinations you do not understand, clearly more advanced than anything the Matriarch could offer.

You walk down this memory hearing and seeing more that could not interpret, then you see a familiar face.... a naked one. Kythians. A savage force more primal and barbaric than the current skin wearers. they swooped in leaving none alive. The men of iron could not fend against large numbers despite their advancements.

They pray to the goddess of iron - the murderer of Kyth- before their delicious cogs were spilled . The town is burnt to the ground, centuries has passed within a blink of an eye. You open your eyes, a new knowledge is instilled within you.

The lighthouse

Together, you approached the lighthouse where you saw three Kerkits working outside on various tasks, The youngest of them squealed in anticipation "Ma! Ma! We got visitors!"

The mother of three opened the door slowly, reveling a terrible amalgamation of Humm-Kerkit hybrid; small wings around her elongated neck, antennae sprouting from one of many useless eye sockets and multiple half-fuses legs. A testament on why crossbreeding should never exist between Humm and Kerkit.

"O-oh, Afternoon...I-is that red or green hair?"

"Red Ma! Red!" The second of her children replied.

"Aaaah, You must have dinner with us, stranger. It is no banquet but i insist! We get so few visitors up here.,,, The pilgrims purposely ignore us while I save their lives with..with.." A strenuous cough overwhelmed her, acidic sludge trailing from her maligned mouth. "Come on in! Don't be shy , you."

"If you put it that way..." your sweet tongue undid its mistake. You had to accept her invitation after this fiasco.

Her home was nothing much, the simplest (perhaps the poorest) way of life, scraping by each and every day. Wooden toys were scattered aplenty. The walls had scribbles as well of different people. Those children sure have quite the imagination.

It wasn't long before the dinner was ready. A delicious stew with a smell that filled the whole light house. It was on par with that of the glorious cook even. Despite her heinous appearance, The crossbreed had a lot of interesting things to say. Her husband used to run the lighthouse before he died on his way to the summit leaving her with a family to feed on her own. She do what she can to keep her children well fed and happy.

The flashy colours of the Kerkit were nowhere to be found, everything was drab and minimal in appearance. The pilgrims are huddled together in small circles. Hush tones, silent sorrows. The largest of these circles had crumbling salt-taken Marrowstone statues. Four to be exact, each resembling a certain aspect of Kyth.

The children are having fun in an abandoned fountain, dry and useless.. Next to them was a giant Kerkit, a pulsating mass with many stubby limbs She had a tight circle of pilgrims and mourners. Some were crying, Other were praying.

"Pray tell, Are you an ashen one?" He sensed your presence "No, Her time will come soon enough. Your queenly flesh is... unripe, weak. I can smell it..."

The time mender stood up, his frail arms clutching to his stick "I know what you are after. The gods of Kyth are but clueless children. They know that, all of their might is projected in this holy shell. It is not the only one. The true gods outside massacred each other. Every carcass is a new world with its own gods and rules. He points towards the giant Kerkit "She provides her flesh to the pilgrims, bask in its cerulean glory. Otherwise, the sea has all the hidden answers you desire..."

That leaves you with the priestess. Are you willing to make it to the summit? Your vitality from Cage's blood is slowly starting to wane. It would be long before the regal curse would manifest once more. As for now, you ask the wingless to rewind your body.

Providence

You approached this providence only to witness a gruesome scene; the pilgrims who were crying were actually gnawing through her undulating azure flesh in immense guilt. Blood and other gory bits were a common sight either leaking from her various wounds or from the mournful mandibles of the Kerkits.

What sort of twisted cannibalism is this?! You are...not as disgusted as you would imagine yourself to be. why is that? Up close, you could spot her unbloated upper half. So tiny and minuscule in comparison.

"A....Humm?" She addresses you "Yes...yes, all are welcome to my undying flesh."

In a split of a second, her body twitched and contracted. All of her hunger-induced wounds were replaced for more readily available flesh before your very eyes. You blinked twice in disbelief.

"Your flesh is mine, my flesh is yours...feast, my children . Partake , Strengthen your body for the ancestral summit."

Then it happened, Providence extended her very long arms to the crowd. Some Kerkits actually climbed over only to be devoured a minute later. What is happening? Why are they so willing to throw their lives like so??

You had your share. You won't push your luck with such tempting flesh no more. The journey to the summit at this time will be a fool's errand. You have to rest first. Let the heart sleeps, you will begin your ascent tomorrow.

This recent act of savagery didn't bode too well with one of your men. He decided to carve his own path away from you.

You lost x1 crew (total 40)

The Summit

Six days. Six days of grueling snow, slippery slopes and pure hidden paths. You made it. You conquered that damn mountain with the help of the charred devil. You hate to admit it but he was a good source of warmth after the fuel has ran out. You allowed your doctor to purchase any supplies needed during your ascend so the crew won't get starved meanwhile.

The view was breathtaking from up here, the winds howls and clashes against the colossal corpse of Kelige. Her wings are somehow not frozen from this drastic weather ever shimmering more lights below. Very few of the pilgrims have actually made it. the rest have been claimed by the mountain.

The ancestral Kerkit was still producing warm black honey around her like a moat. Various priests with incense roam the area chanting for the pilgrims who sought to drink it. They didn't need to wear much, the vapors of the honey was more than enough to keep them warm.

The temple was actually Kelige's right eye, refashioned to house the incoming pilgrims. There was a smaller shrine carved in solid stone. That of the priestess, it had many frozen corpses circled around the entrance. All were assuming a meditative stance.

You lost x3 supplies (total 0)

The best thing you got was a simple gesture from one of the priests. At first, he points at his chest making a cross then he pointed towards the stone-carved shrine and the corpses around it. When you tried to ask for more, he simply ignored you like the rest. What does it means?

At long last

A drop of fresh blood in the virgin snow, another...then another. A trail to follow leading to a secluded area near the edge. An eviscerated Kerkit priest , almost a hollow shell at this point.

A grey haired woman stood next to the defiled. She wore elegant clothes ill-suited for such harsh weather. A vile overgrown centipede quickly crawled out of the corpse hissing towards you before seeking refuge inside her own mouth.

"Madam, Stay back!" Your first officer immediately assumed a defensive stance, his flame-engorged body was melting snow aroud him.

You didn't know why but this woman felt familiar somehow...was it the fair style? Her hair? She was unamused by the charred devil "I- well he was craving for a new Kerkit to consume. Was it worth the trouble, hmmm? You murdered him for nil reason, you. The priestess..? Hers will be like the rest. Don't bother. I won't bother so you better had your fill with this sod."

You couldn't tell whom she was addressing, you did draw your half frozen sword. Pistols are worthless in this weather. The woman looked at you both, bewildered "What? Can't an otherworldly parasite needlessly murder someone in peace? He wants you both dead, the prick, he won't eat your flesh being the peckish bastard that he is."

The woman pulled out a short dagger, black as night that one. Her neck wriggled back and forth with this parasite "No. Enough. I won't have you driving me to the FOUR corners of the world based on your mood. I want to leave my sea days behind and find somewhere to settle in for once." She fixed her annoyed gaze on you " You, Go Away. Tell your fire boy to calm down or he might burn himself from being so uptight. Oh, what a bother, dragging me here you stupid imbecile..."

Family

That Brooch...is she of Regal blood?

Yes she is! As a child, you were forced to memorize dozens of faces and names in your family tree, mostly old people who were too fond of your company and etiquette. One photograph was crossed out in the family album: That of an adventurous exile who committed a horrible offense against the sanguine throne, her face looks exactly like the photograph but with grey hair instead of royal red. Furthermore, she is for the fourth circle...very close to the Matriach's bloodline unlike you.

"I said you can go. Don't make me change my mind." She was irritated but not threatened by your presence.

"Who?" You repeated the name again "I haven't heard this name in a long, long time. Since I-doesn't matter now, does it? How's Gran? I would visit Thernn had it not been for my most polite parasite. That and i am exiled for...how long was it?"

Your Bloodkin put her dagger aside "You are not half as arrogant as the rest. You should have seen Gran's earlier days....everyone was scheming against each other for her favor. The sanguine throne is rightfully named from constant bloodletting . Good times."

Your first officer was still on full alert as she was walking away "I am leaving. Send Gran my regards next time you see her."

Victory

She shouldn't have brought a measly dagger in a sword fight. Her nimbleness was overshadowed by your first officer's blazing wings. He pinned her long enough for you to drive your sword into her heart.

Her near lifeless eyes haunt yours in her final words "Foolish...foolish. He...he is without a host...you.."

A powerful shockwave knocked you both feet away from the Lithesome kin, her corpse twitches violently. Before you, Bones and flesh were reforming into something more vile, something that does not belong to this world. A giant incoherent jumble of serrated limbs and flesh, ready to consume all.

You have gained an oddity: x1 dreadful recollection

Looming fate

The fight was short lived from your side, you hacked a limb or two before a sharp pain erupted to your right side, then another in your leg. You collapse on the tainted snow coughing a gush of blood. Your vision is fading...

Then you heard it, a demonic scream of vengeance. An powerful wrath of fire melting the surrounding snow in a heartbeat.

Your first officer (The Charred Devil has died)
You have gained an affliction : Injury (0->2 grievous wounds, Imminent death if left untreated)

In your haze, you can still hear the moans of the abomination ebbing ever closer. It was severely crippled, crawling at a much slower pace than yours.

A pitiful fate

With the last drip of strength left in you, you plunge the fiery sword deep in the parasite's head squeezing and twisting the blade. It pierced your chest as a parting gift. You both lied on the damp ground, Sharing the last moments of life together.

"You had some potential then you disappointed me. Wasting my gift on nothing. Rest, my past self. I have learned well from your mistakes. We shall reclaim the throne in another life."

You are dead.

Mournful friends, Your captain no longer exists within the realm of the living. Fear not! This is not the true end. There are other sea captains out there for you to command. For now, choose a legacy for your next captain.

we will start tomorrow with a new captain but before that, i got some questions:

>how do you feel about the current rolling system? do you love it? hate it? do you want me to roll to save time instead? if you don't like it, what other alternatives would you suggest?
>How was our current run with the Languid noble? what did you like/hate about it?

1. Rolling is okay, the DC can be too tough sometimes though
2. I like it. Better than our previous run because our unique status as a noble scion opens up many special interactions.
3. An easier time Visiting new places and not dying in Sungraves again.
At some point could we replay the deceased captains again?
>>
>>3202339
to be fair, neither of the two captains were teeth focused.
not every captain starts at thernn by the way, it just happens to be that way for the last two runs due to plot reasons. the map shuffling + alternative events will help us to reduce the usual tenacity of rerunning over and over again
>>
>>3202280
A better soul
>>3202313
I like it difficulty seems fair to what we are trying to attempt
I had fun sad we died but we died nobly which is all i could ask for
More chances to make money, seemed like we were just bleeding it

>>
>>3202280

>>
>>3202366
in this run:
-trading certain goods in different ports (like with marrowine)
-sending FULL reports to the pale office (all the reports submitted had almost new since they were barely explored. More exploration= more rewards per report. Lune, Montse and Oyt were 80% ignored)
-hauling barrels of yellow tar back to either Thernn or the Hive for better prices (which has been ignored)
-the auction and many, many opportunities in station Montse
there were many ways to earn skins, friend.

>>3202370
eeh, i think newer captains would be a better alternative. sure it will make things easier and more familiar but i think it will be more repetitive and dull (plus it will remove the impact of loss from whatever reason it was)
>>
