Synopsis
"A Dark Fantasy Quest" is a dark fantasy set in a OC universe and follows your story as you pilot the young rogue Kae. After living most, if not all, your life in the woods you are forced to rejoin society out of desperation. Join Kae as she navigates and learns about the world around her, makes new friends, and over comes (or doesn’t) what ever obstacles the unforgiving world throws at her.
"A Dark Fantasy Quest" offers a sandbox free roam experience, an organic world filled with characters, a dark ominous narrative, original illustrations, a complex and rewarding leveling /combat system, and a guarantee to see the quest to an organic end. As you explore the world remember that time moves with you, it is not at all advisable or possible to involve yourself in every plot line, character, and hook within a chapter. Lastly, remember to watch your back, as death may be closer to you then your shirt.

Schedule?
I update every 1-3 days, depending on how busy I am with school work/life/etc. On holidays I may update everyday, on exam crunch time I may not at all. This is not a quest that you have to show up on time for, drop in every day or two and you wont miss anything. And you never have to worry about someone backtracking your vote a day later. Lastly, I will use the same thread until page nine / ten so be sure to pin us!
>Thready Update Prognosis:
4 days a week, weekend heavy

>Rules?
-Prompts that are more in depth have a better chance of succeeding. Example: you have a better chance of success if you provide an argument as to why the monster shouldn't eat you then if you simply say "convince him not to eat you".
-Prompts have to make sense in continuity to the story. Example: characters who are established pacifists wont start murdering randomly for exp.
-minimal meta/power gaming
-minimal backpedaling
-Im always in the /qtg/ so please put critiques there

You can feel yourself getting angry, you gambled everything to find Jackson only to have him NOT wake up. Then you again gambled on borrowed credit just to get to the place you are now. Only to find this blind oaf has changed his MIND and no longer wants to help you. His advice is cryptic at best, and worthless too. You cant just leave all your friends behind even if something bad IS coming this way. You have done so before back in Wilstown and have done nothing but regret it. If Ratko has nothing more for you then he can go fuck himself. As Ratko continues to expand, you simply return the favour by attempting to stare him down. [Bushmen] You wont let any man bully you, to do so only invites more cruelty as you have learned in the past.

[Charisma: Success] The smell of burning eggs breaks the mental battle between you and Ratko, being the first to notice it you can't help but commenting on it: “I think your breakfast is starting to burn” . This seems to cause Ratko to shrink back to his normal self, as he pushes past you to inspect his eggs he gives you thanks. Watching him for a while it seems like he has simply chosen to ignore you until you leave. You take some time to soak in your anger and frustration before turning around and leaving. As you move out the Kitchen and into the hall you hear Ratko's voice behind you ”There is old clothing in backroom, you may take if you wish. Maybe when we meet next, you will be your true self”. More cryptic words that you don’t have time for. But checking the broom closet you do find a set of old [Peasant clothing: Female], perhaps they will prove a good disguise if you choose to take them.

Returning back outside into the heavy rain you wonder what your next move will be, with no sleep and much physical exertion you are getting tired...

>What do?
>>
>>3187546
We put on the peasant clothes and sneak back to our room, like we said, we won't abandon our friends
we still have time to go back
>>
>>3187606
Two ways to get back into the fortress that I can think of, if thats what we ultimately do.
A: try to climb back up, this comes with problems
B: wait for morning when the gates open and try to come in with the crowd, this comes with its own contingencies and problems

also, getting back into the fortress and getting back to your room are two different things.
>>
>>3187644
Let's take a look at the climb then, see if we can find a safer way up, if we don't we can wait until early morning and bet Mary can stall long enough
>>
>>3187682
Ok, let's give it a try, we have to at least try.
>>
>>3187682
Mary probably doesn't know you left and comes in with the guards
>>
>>3187742
I think it was mentioned last thread she could stall then, but regardless, if she doesn't it only means we will have to be quicker
>>
>>3187682
Support.

If we can't get back to our room we can at least warn people about what's to come, this shit is fucked.
>>
>>3187769
The guards enter with her everytime
>>
>>3187546
Have we seen any hobos lying around? If so we could just pretend we are one and wait out the night in a dark corner somewhere.
Not the same as a bed, but its waay safer than being caught returning. Atleast with the talk of witches and such
>>
>>3188180
Yes, there are many. In fact there is an entire refugee village of people who have been slowly drifting in from Wilstown over the years.

You decide to put on the [Peasant clothing: Female] in order to better blend in. The cloths are old and worm and a little too big. On the plus side you can wear them over your normal clothing but on the negative you find yourself having to lift the dress as you walk in order to not trip over it. Heading back towards the cliff you look up at the task before you, should this prove to be your plan. Not only do you have to climb the slippery rock face but climbing UP the fortress wall is not only extremely difficult but very dangerous as well. A slip up here could send you tumbling down to your death. [Bushmen] You judge the difficulty of the climb to be: [Best of three / Crit Fail 0-5 : Fail 5-12 : Minor Fail 13-16 : Minor Success: 17-18 : Success 19 : Crit Success 20]. Before attempting such a dangerous climb you decide to take a look around town, maybe you can find an alternative?

Walking through the rainy streets you find yourself mostly alone, but every now and then you catch a glimpse of one of the refugees sleeping in the wet street. It seems they don't only confine themselves to the migrant camp on the other side of the fortress. As you continue stalking through the streets you also start to notice decorations, little men made mostly out of copper wire hang from doorways and windows. You assume it is some strange custom and somehow tied in to harvest festival. You wonder to yourself what significance it could have, so lost in thought you almost don’t notice the giant man standing before you as you walk into the town centre. But when you DO see it the massive construct gives you quit a fright, you instinctively reach for your sword but find it unattainable and hidden underneath your [Peasant clothing: Female]. The fear only lasts for a moment as your mind quickly explains to your body that this massive statue is not a real enemy.

You look at the giant construct in wonder, standing at about the same height as the buildings around it, the statue is made out of looping iron rings. It is mostly empty not counting for the legs which are filled with large bushels of wheat. Around the iron man are many more bushels of wheat that you suppose are eventually going to fill the insides of the statue. Never in your life had you imagined such a thing, no doubt it also has some part to play in the coming harvest. For a moment you wonder if THIS is the thing Ratko was warning you about? Are the villagers here trying to create some kind of monster??? Is Jeraldo in on it? As you get closer to the wicker man you also notice a pair of guards on duty here. You almost failed to spot them due to the heavy rain, they have not yet noticed you for the same reason.

Backing away from the solders and metal giant you decide to put some distance between you and the construct. Its massive girth is oddly horrifying, it feels like it could come alive at and moment! You head back towards the cliff to give it another look over. Placing your hands on the wet rock you climb a few feet off the ground before slipping back down. As you move through the stages of grief you start to be overcome with depression. You made the decision to risk everything escaping from your room but now that you are out here with nothing to show for it you are having trouble accepting it. You could even possibly have started crying but the rain is too hard and your face is too numb to ever know for sure. Soon enough you work your way through the depression and start trying to think of realistic ways for you to move forward. The idea of sneaking back in when the gates open in the early morning is the best you can come up with. Accepting the new plan you return to the town to find a place to hide and get some sleep. You consider going all the way to the refuge camp but then remember the guards that were posted all over the place there and decide to instead find your own street to sleep in back in town.

[Encounter roll: 1]

Its hard work finding a place that hasn’t already been taken but eventually you find a surprisingly nice nook free of rain water that is vacant. Settling in to have a short nap and wait out the night you place your sword and bow in reaching distance but hide them out of sight under your bag and other refuse. You manage to find maybe an hour or two of sleep before you are awoken by the noise of footsteps descending on you. ”well, well, well, what do we have here? Looks like someone stumbled onto our turf” comes a voice down the alley. Peeking out from under your hood you see a man approaching you, he has a sword at his side and is blocking the only way out. I guess this is why this place was vacant! You have stumbled onto some ruffians turf. As of now he possibly still thinks you are sleeping.

You wait silently and patiently as the man moves closer and closer, pretending to be asleep a part of you prays that he will simply move on after inspecting you. Your hopes quickly fade as he continues speaking to himself: ”A woman? This WILL be fun. Been waiting too long to have some fun”. With every step he takes you can hear your heart beating harder and harder in your chest. It beats so hard and so loud you fear that It will give you away. But he of course cant hear it. When he finally gets in striking distance you surprise him by kick out with your foot right into his shin. The Man screams in pain and falls right over, you ignore his loud curses and sweep up all your things and make a break for it. ”YOU FUCKING BITCH” you hear him cry behind you ”YOU'LL REGRET THAT ILL CUT YOU ILL DICE YOU ILL FUCKING RIP YOU APART” He clutches his shin with both hands and his screaming pierces the quite night air.

[Encounter roll: 1]

As you reach the ally exit another figure blocks your path causing you to come to a stop. In his hand is a mace and he looks to be a friend of the man you just kicked. ”Ooooh you fucking bitch, you done fucked up now” says the man from behind you as he stands up and draws his sword. The way out is too narrow to get past the man in front of you. You can either fight or try to talk your way out at this point.

You are now in combat

Just pointing out for the future that this is a valid write in. Write ins like this count as an [Ability] and you will have to roll for it vs a DC. Also, just in case it was not clear from the GIF. You can only [DODGE] if there is a available [tile] to move into.

Finally, roll a d6! anything but a 1 will kill him (assuming he doesn't dodge)! 1st roll counts only so dont roll unless you are a manly man.

With the bandit that was blocking your way now nothing more then a heap under your feet, the way to freedom becomes open. Taking one last look at the bandit screaming profanities behind you, you decide to leave him behind and just run. Sword still in hand you burst out of the confined space of the nook and into the wet rainy street.

[Encounter roll: 1]

Your heart sinks as you find three more men waiting for you. Your bad luck stuns you momentary but you quickly regain your composure as the footsteps of the bandit behind you gets louder and louder. You inspect your surroundings as quickly as you can. You see two exits, if you can get past the bandits in front of you its possible that you may outrun them. Unlike the narrow place you just burst out of the street is much more open and manoeuvrable. The man leading the bandits takes a step towards you, he has a familiur sounding voice: ”Hello free bird, if I presented a safe cage would you fly into it?”. You are running out of time, act fast!

And he made it very clear that he would rape us or left us to be linched by a mod of angry peasants, thankfully the mob wasn't that angry.
read it again man, it was awful.
>>
>>3200357
Yeah, we can still try. Im just worried we would get treated worse if caught or maimed/killed
>>
>>3200457
I did, the person who tells us that we got molested is loki himself in a note. Every single time we meet him he tries intimidating us and everytime he does nothing if we call his bluff.

>Do we have a small knife
No, we have a BIG hunting knife
>We may have to cut our own throat if that guy catches us.
Fucking metal, but Kae won't kill herself. She is a survivor.

Is up an option? If not run towards loki as if agreeing, get close & strike him with Kaes sword before continuing to haul ass (hopefully somewhere with guards).

You have never been too good at talking but, as your uncle put it, “you have a good head on your shoulders and you hit like an Ox” but beyond that you have always been, very, very fast. Even as a child you have never met an adult who could outrun you and, over time, have done nothing but get faster and faster. But it isn’t just your legs that were fast, your hands move so fast that you can take a shirt right off a man's back before he even realized you touched him; not that you have ever tried. It's no wonder that today you but your faith in your greatest asset. The moment Loki had finished his short sentence you had already turned and ran. Without a moment's hesitation you were well on your way getting out of there. Reaching out to try and grab hold of you was It was all the bandit could do [AGI: success][50 vs 27]. But of course he came nowhere close to placing his hands on you. In a narrow space they had a chance but out here, in the open square, all they can get their hands on is air. As you blast past them you hear Loki's voice calling out to you, but you can't hear what he says due to the men with him shouting at the top of their lungs. They don't seem too considered with being heard. [green][Bandit 3]:”LOKI, STOP HER!”[/green] you hear one of them cry, prompting you to turn your head around and give them one last look. What you see is demoralizing at best, two bandits are still trying to chase after you while Loki stands behind them twirling a set of bolas. You have seen this weapon before and are aware of Loki's intent, you of course REFUSE to let yourself be captured. As the bandits part Loki gets a clean shot at you and you know the instrument is going to be coming at you soon.

Turning back to the road ahead you simply try to outrun them, and put distance between yourself and Loki's weapon. Looking back on this moment later, you will realize that the best plan of action was to duck into an alley but sometimes your legs move faster than your brain can process information. Either way the instrument never finds its way to your legs, he must have A: missed or B: you successfully outran him. After the sounds of the bandits are gone, and even after still the building of the town disappear, you never stop running. You run and you run until the rain eventually causes you to slip and fall face first into the mud. Instantly twirling around you point your sword at an unseen enemy to find yourself alone.
>>
Not wanting to return to the town you find a fence to sit your back against. You rub your legs as they complain relentlessly, you gave them quite the work out and now they wish to rest. Taking a look around you find yourself in some farmers field several miles from town, all the wheat that used to smother the landscape has been cut giving everything a much more barren look. You, of course, can't possibly sleep tonight. But you can still sit here and be slowly attacked by your thoughts. How cruel the world of civilized man seems to be, it was never like this when you were young living in the wilds. You wonder about the woman you have seen in the refuge camp, the ones who cant run as fast as you. And you even wonder about the man you cut down today. You still vividly remember the face of the 1st man you killed back in Wilstown, when you close your eyes you still see his fear, his hunger, his desperation. But the man you may have killed today doesn’t pain you in the same way. Maybe it just gets easier every time you do it? Or maybe its because he [i]deserved[/i] it. Miles separate that poor villager and this bandit.

As the night goes on you pull yourself into a smaller and smaller ball. You try to ward away the bad thoughts but they creep in, refusing to let you sleep. You think more dark thoughts this night then most girls your age have to deal with in their lifetime.

Least we can do is find some shelter at the moment, to keep Kae out of the elements. Best thing to do is get as far as possible from the fort before the guards start hauling ass after us. Oh shit what happened to Soj?

Sorry for getting banned this weekend friends, I try pretty hard NOT to break any rules so this specific thing doesn't happen. I also really feel this bann was undeserving but that really doesn't matter now. It also couldn't come at a worse time since I was hoping to really sit down and pump out some updates over the weekend before my mid terms start.

So even though this is the end of the thread I would like to invite you to show up on Friday where I have decided to spend all day pumping out updates to catch us up to where I feel we should be.
