Day 3
Desolated, pitiful system in a middle of blasted, half-forgotten sector in the middle of nowhere. No better place to suffer a malfunction. I have expressed my displeasure to Fedoric already, but I understand that it is not his fault. Adepts are hard at work, trying to please fickle machine spirits and once again ignite the unholy fire of life back into the warp drive. I hope they will manage to sort it out soon. Reidor's squad is already getting restless. I have already talk to the brothers and urged for patience, but there's only so much armour polishing you can do before you get completely sick of it. Eternal Purity will sooner or later realise that they've lost us along the way and return. However I trust that the Emperor has a reason to send us here.

Meanwhile, I myself have been:
a) Studying the nearby planet, it seems like a human frontier world
b) Reading up on Sector's history
c) Leading the men in prayer in order to steel their minds for whatever lies in the Ghoul Stars

We made need to visit it if we're stranded for too long. Best to know where we stand.

However we should still be sure to lead the usual prayer sessions. Pray to our great father for strength.

Day 4
Strongback is fine frigate, but among its many fine facilities, library clearly wasn't the greatest priority for the Captain. Fedoric is a good serf and has proven himself to the Chapter, but at heart he still is a wrench monkey that led a rebellion, his nobility is not of the academic kind. I wasn't able to dig up much on the Sector, apart from the fact that the capital has been lost during the Horus Heresy and the rest of the Sector was gradually abandoned or left to fend for itself during the miserable millennia that followed. Eagle retreated and only the dark, hungry, everwatchful Ghoul Stars remained in their skies. But humans are a tough breed, they remained, some even thrived. Braver Imperial Revenue Lords even venture here sometimes to collect tithe, some of them even return. But all in all, this place is Imperial only on the dusty maps.

Day 6
The system is quite basic - white dwarf, 18 planets, among them 3 in the Golden Locks zone, though the farthest one is a hellish ice world. Humans have once inhabbited the one closest to the sun and the middle one. The first one is designated as Zera Prime, but I call it Brethoria, for it reminds me of our first Captain's bald head - round, smooth, yellowish brown, with some white-red deserts, like scars from an ancient battle. While we do not posses a lot of planetary surveillance equipment on Strongback, it is quite clear that humans no longer inhabit it, dark spots that should have been cities, seem to be lifeless and abandoned. The other planet is covered in dark jungle and swamp-oceans. That's where the humans live, if you can call frontier existence that. Population must be quite small, but we can identify at least two big cities - one on a swamp island chain and another one in the mountains at the south pole. It doesn't seem as if they are very advanced, but they do have a space port landing strip - maybe someone is visiting them regularly. It is quite mysterious, I'll call it Masteria, in honour of our forever brooding Chapter Lord. Well, if I am giving names, then let's call the ice world Harmantia. I never trusted that sneaky heretic, but he sure had something cold about him, so the name fits. Let us hope he doesn't get his hands on this diary.

These planets peaked my curiosity. I will...
a) Visit Masteria
b) Visit Brethoria
c) Visit Harmantia
d) I changed my mind, lets do...

Day 7
Discovered sonorograf recording from Carcerius Magnus of Tachion Primaris, late M39. Very atmospheric. Makes me think of the Emperor at the very beginning of his outset from Terra and what thoughts must have bothered him.

Day 8
During the descent our shuttle was shaking worse than a heretic flayed with an electro-whip. It is a shame that Chapter Master didn't deploy any with us, could have been very useful in case Elegion's extraction gets tricky. But I am getting off track. We landed straight into the middle of a tropical monsoon - winds, rain, lightning, the whole nine yards.

We landed in...
a) Archipelago city
b) South pole mountain city
c) Random place in the jungle

...and we did it...

a) Openly
b) Discreetly

...and if we meet people, I have already decided to be...

a) polite and respectful, but distant
b) friendly and bring luxurious gifts (1W)
c) intimidating and authoritative
d) enigmatic and secretive, we are Ghosts after all

Mountain city sounds like it could be a hairy place to be caught in.
Going in discreetly. We're here to observe at first and see if we need to confront anyone about anything.

Wondering if the people have any potential intel on any old ruin sites or possible treasure locations.....

Day 8, evening

We landed about an hour ago among the peaks, hidden away from the human city. I decided not to risk it and took Reidor and his squad with me. Reidor has managed to somehow get the permission from the Captain to bring a jump-pack, crazy axe-wielding Sergeant must have had some problems with his adrenaline glands - he is constantly itching to go and only through iron discipline ever made it to the rank of the Sergeant. He prefers to do his scouting himself, I can already see him returning. Red-haired marine takes off his helmet and addresses me:
>Chaplain, I think we are safe to approach, but I do have something to report to you. The city itself is not too big - I would hazard a guess at 50 thousand inhabitants or so. Technological level must have been Imperial at some point in the past, but it seems that without the oversight from Mechanicus, their local tech-guild started losing knowledge and skill - I would say that their level now is a little bit below standard Imperial. As a matter of fact, I have seen some Imperial aquilas and even statues of the saints, built in Imperial style, so I think the faith must have remained here. However that's what I am worried about... There is a huge statue of the Emperor carved in stone in the rockface of the main mountain. It is recognisable, but some changes disturb me - the Emperor seems to be half-naked and sitting on a throne of snakes. In his left hand he holds something that resembles the sun and in other - a stylised mountain or a maybe a handful of dirt. Even more so - it seems that around the statue people are readying fires to be lit and bringing food, drink, everything that you need for a feast. I think we might be crashing their party - some sort of festival is coming up in no later than a couple of days.
This was interesting news. I decided to...

[state + roll d100]
>>
>>3179113
"Excellent work brother."

I think we should observe their festival first. It should reveal a lot about their faith and expose any potential corruption.

Once we've seen the festival we can decide how to confront them.

Thoughts?

Day 10, evening
While Reidor is excited about my idea to have him jump in for dramatic effects, I decided to keep that plan on ice until it is actually required.

Finally, after two days of waiting and hiding, festival begins. There are primitive radio communications used here, but our decoder made a short work of their encryption and we tapped into their communications. We heard nothing of interest - radio here is so rare, that only their equivalent of military uses it and they don't chat much. The only thing we heard of interest was something about the "sacrifice".

As the festival begins, masses of people flood the streets and go towards the central plaza at the Emperor's deformed statue. Fires are lit, barely recognizable, but semi-Imperial prayer hymns are sung, food is shared, people are enjoying themselves. However soon you notice that among them, there are around two hundred people dressed in pure white, primarily young women and men, some children as well. As the festival escalates, these marked ones detach themselves from the rest of the crowd and start congregating in the middle, while festival around them grows ever more frenzied.

Reidor tapped me on the shoulder:
>Should we prepare for anything? Or are we just watching?

What do you do? Also, generate Axon's Intelligence and then roll it.
>>
>>3179156
>What do you do?
Get in there, pretty sure those two hundred people won't be long for this world.
How about

"Prepare to make an entry brothers. Reidor, have a few brothers with you to extinguish those fires and take anyone out of them if needed swiftly.

The rest of us should make ready to confront the congregation. I shall lead with the Emperor's Litany on Astartes before giving them the Sermon of Saint Thor's mercy."

(can type these out when the time comes)

Thoughts?

Generating intelligence.

Human sacrifice is kinda fucking nasty, but it happens in Ecclesiarchal teachings sometimes. Think it was Faith and Fury, or one of the other SoB BL books.
