It's the middle of the night and raining heavily. You trudge through the woods in the dark against the howling wind. Conditions are too poor to use a torch forcing you and Alina to use the negligible light of your mage fire. The weather impedes you greatly but your pursuers have no chance of tracking you like this, even with this assistance of magic.
After 2 hours of walking through the rain you hear a unsettling noise that makes your hairs stand on end, a low rumbling like the growl of a lion. The creature in the shadows circles around you rapidly with heavy footfalls and rustling plants.
You move back closer to Ulric and Alina, who have drawn their weapons Ulric with his twin swords and Alina holding your old warhammer. The monster dashes in to attack. galvanising you.

I really should of said something earlier, but you need to specify what attack you're anticipating with a counter attack
>Counter attack[attack]
>Counter attack[power attack]
>Counter attack[flurry]
>Counter attack[called shot]
>Counter attack[jab]
>Counter attack[counter attack]

Also you need to choose four actions (they can be the same 4) for this update since It will be 4 rounds of of combat.

Torch won't light in the rain.
And with three of us and (hopefully) one of it, hitting at all is more important than hitting hard.

Called Shot: "I attack the darkness!"

waaait maybe we should use shocking grasp instead of jab now that we actually have points in evocation
>>
The creature bites your leg scoring a critical hit! doing 25 damage. You are immune to knockdown. You are immune to cripple.
The creature attacks Ulric with its claws but you counter attack! for 52 damage.
The creature stings Alina for 3 damage. Alina locks up, paraylsed by the monster's venom.
Ulric slashes the creature's 5th arm? for 9 damage, he attacks again with his offhand scoring a critical hit! doing a further 13 damage.
Alina twitches and spasms desperately, unable to move properly under the paralysis.

The creature power attacks Alina with its claws for 18 damage.
It whips its tail? and plunges its stinger into you for 1 damage. You resist paralysis.
It lunges forward and crunches Ulrics left leg with its jaws. A critical hit! doing 17 damage and knocking him down. The leg is crippled.
You jab the general area where it seems to be with your hammer, hitting it for a solid 18 damage.
Ulric painfully stands up.
Alina casts protection on you.

It surprises Alina with a bite to the right arm. A critical hit! doing 30 damage. Her hp reduced to 0, Alina collapses.
While it bites Alina it impales Ulric with its stinger for 1 damage. Ulric is paralysed by the venom.
Finally it claws at you for 7 damage.
You power attack the monster but are unable to land a solid hit.
Ulric is paralysed. He fights the venom and forces his arm to move healing Alina for 48 hit points. The healing light shines much brighter than mage fire and illuminates the area.
The creature screeches blinded by the light, it's armour of darkness destroyed. It looks severly injured.

The light will dissappear in a second.

(Ulric can use healing 3 more times)

You power attack the beast doing 35 damage. Your hammer strikes its head snapping the creature's head with a sickening crack. It collapses to the ground lifeless but you smash it with your hammer one more time pulverising its head.

>You gain 900 XP
>You now have 33550/36000

You create some idle mage fire and inspect your allies.
>"Is she going to be okay?"
Ulric: "Yeah just give her a minute and she'll be good as new. Healing magic works very well on her."
>"You're leg. Are you alright?"
Ulric: "Don't worry I can heal this! But first..."
He heals you for 32 health bathing the area in a bright light briefly.
>"Thank you"
Ulric: "Now I've never done this before but it should work..."
(He attempts to heal his crippled leg he needs a 50 or lower to succeed)

Ulrics leg is restored and Alina wakes shortly after. You continue your trek through the rain. Other than some brief hail no further obstacles present themselves and soon enough you find yourself in Oakheart. Resting under the verandah of a tavern.

Alina: "Oh so now the rain stops."
Ulric: "That was rough, but I think you made the right decision Christof."
>"Yeah..."
You open the tavern door for Ulric and Alina and follow in after them. You book a double room with Ulric and a single for Alina. You shed your damp apparel and go straight to sleep.

What is your plan for the following day? Your first approach to the dark wizards lair didn't go very well and you definitely cant fight all of them head to head.

Drop the quest, it may be too hard for us right now honestly. If 1 failed roll is going to screw us this hard when we are at the perimeter what are we going to do if we fail a roll on the inside?

Especially with salamans betrayal, I just don't want him around.
>>
>>3160449
>We need to hire some magic users to help us.
We NEED help.
If we can't find any, then we can try to check Salaman out of jail like it's a damn kennel.
>>
>>3160504
This. Dropping the quest is a bit too extreme, let's find someone else.
>>
>>3160486
>Drop the quest and abandon innocent kidnapped peasants because its hard
Good thing Christof is an emotionless sociopath without a soul. Wait, are we sure that he is?

>The betrayal... it haunts me... SALAMAN! From hell's heart I stab at thee!
We get it.
He hurt your feelings and now you're mad.
>>
The next morning you pnder your decisions over breakfast. A part of you still reluctant to take Salaman back, how can you just act like nothing happened after what he did? Maybe this mission is too difficult for you... but they still have prisoners, and now they know their location is exposed who knows what they might do now that they can no longer hide. They must be stopped.

You make a job offer to freelance mercenaries and adventurers who know magic, if only to see what options are available for hirlings. Salaman and Kalim are still there as last resorts.

Apparently the Archduke's bounty has been officially placed for destorying dark wizard enclave: 3000 Talons

>Which if any will you hire?
>>
>>3160626
>Uxius
>>
>>3160626
Let's see:

Potentials:

>Godor
I like him. First choice

>Uxius
Fine. Second choice

>Shornas
Cheap and suspicious. 3rd choice only in addition to another

>Shawel
Bargain. Fourth choice

>Barret
Good meat shield fifth choice.

I want as much help as possible.

Maybe Godor and Uxius?

Rejected list:
>Bug
Awkward. No.

>Axium
Others are more bang for the buck

>Kilroy
Haha! Yay! No chance.

>Avras
Expensive

>Adalore
Poor xp reward. Just kidding. Too high level.
>>
Could we see them in a montage featuring a Smashmouth song?
>>
>>3160721
>implying I could be bothered to design/draw all those characters rn
>>
>>3160640
>>3160715
Uxius is 3 levels under us. She'll have to seriously pull her own weight. I'm honestly worried about tanking damage.

ranking my list

>Shomas
>Godor
>Baret
>>
>>3160734
Heh.
Just reminded me of the Mystery Men music video.
>>
>>3160626
Shawel in sigloi and Shornas, maybe some one who accepts being paid after too.
>>
>>3160741
I suspect that she brings the buffs.
I like her better than Shomas.
Godor and Baret are solid picks.

If they want to get paid upfront, we can't get Baret and Shomas or Uxius.

We can get one Talons, one bounty (technically more than one), and Shawel.
Unless we convert coinage.
>>
So...
Godor for bounty

Baret/Shomas /Uxius for Talons

And Shawel.

Do we want three?
Which talons?
>>
we only have 600 talons, take the necromancer because they have many many undead
>>
>>3160772
I'm okay with not taking Shawel.
But we should bring Godor for summons and not being useless in a fight.

If Uxius can buff, I like her.
If Shomas can get behind many* skeletons, he's better. Plus, he's motivated to snag that one true ring.
>>
>>3160780
>If Uxius can buff, I like her.
>If Shomas can get behind many* skeletons,
Can we ask them?
Check their resume?
>>
>>3160780
Shawel is the only person who takes sigloi, which we have lots of. if we take the necromaner, we have no money to pay anyone else

that leaves us with the "pay later" guys only. And thats Godor
>>
>>3160786
Yes. I'm saying "Enchantress or necromancer?"
>>
>>3160792
necromancer
>>
>>3160795
Godor, Shomas, and Shawel.

Final answer.
>>
Alina: "So looks like our first picks are Godor for 1 fourth of the bounty, Shawel for 1375 sigloi and either Uxius or Shornas with Christof's talons."
Ulric: "What about Bug? We can afford him AND Uxius"
>"We do not associate with goblins Ulric."
Ulric: "Well alright, I like Uxius a lot better than Shornas."
Alina: "We only need 200 more talons, we could sell some of our stuff and take both Uxius and Shornas, what happened to the Ring of Deflection?"
>"Too bad we can't exchange this sigloi here. Let's check Uxius' and Shornas' spell list."

Uxius:

1
Charm Person
Hypnotism
Sleep

2
daze monster

3
heroism
rage
suggestion

4
charm monster

Feats:
Magic Sense (I)

Shornas:

1
ray of enfeeblement
cause fear

2
command undead
blindness/deafness
false life

3
halt undead
ray of exhaustion

4
animate dead
enervation

Feats:
Ranged Accuracy (II)

>"They both have a pretty good selection."

(That's all for this one, Seeker Quest will continue in 1 week. Looks like the necromancer is more popular rn but I'll leave the voting open until next session. Thanks for playing.)
>>
>>3160825
I thought we were only taking 1 uhhh
>>Hire Godor, Shawel and Shornas

Or maybe just Godor and Shomas
>>
>>3160825
Uxius seems to be more usefull in general, but for this particular mission Shornas is better.

>Hire Godor, Shawel and Shornas

On an unrelated note, Alina looks cute in wet hair
