>You are Princess Zelda, heir to the fallen throne of Hyrule

>Your father, corrupted by Power, died in a coup, your Kingdom shattered in a civil war 10 years ago, the Hero in Green giving his life to ensure you escaped the conflict

>An uneasy peace has returned to the land, but omens of a descent into greater chaos than before loom on the horizon

>You, Zelda Hyrule, have the potential to claim your birthright and restore the Kingdom to what it once was, bring back true peace to the lands. Your path ahead is not set in stone; you must chisel it in yourself. What kind of Legend will you create?

And for reference, pastebin with stats, inventory, and some mechanics:

You rub your head gently, blinking twice. Did you just blank out for a moment? No, no, must be imagining things. Aveli looks to you. “Something up, Z?”

“My apolgies, I was lost in thought for a moment there. So, we know that the map is on the level above us, but the guards are still on high alert.” You bring their attention to the door leading to the stables. “Their mounts are outside, along with other monsters tending to them. We need to be extra cautious as we move from here, as their patrols will be looking for us.”

“Understood.” Sheik replies with a nod. “Shall we search for a way up, then?”

“Indeed. The sooner we find the map, the better.” you reply with a nod. While trying to set a trap for the monsters in the stable could help you later, now is not the best time for it. And it may be better to explore this floor when you have a greater understanding of the fortress.

“Last staircase I saw was way over on the other side though.” Horon comments. “Before we met that magic-using Darknut back there.”

Lynna scratches her head, looking at the door forward. “There should be more than one at least. Maybe there’s one on this side too?”

“Stands to reason. Let us go forward.” You carefully move to the next door, opening it cautiously. A hallway, one that lacks guards at the moment, but you can assume it’s on their patrol path. Strangely the other side hits a dead end, leading to an empty shelf... hrmn. Or perhaps there’s a secret door behind it. Ah, but to your luck you see another door to the side. You take a peek inside. A much larger room, one with tables and a stage, perhaps a meeting room of some sort when it was still in operation. Also one with more of those ice-covered Stalfos inside it... but a spiral staircase in the center.

>A. We need to sneak past those Ice Stalfos

“We need to take them out quickly, but we cannot allow them to raise any alarms.” You ready your repeating crossbow. “We take what shots we can. Ready?”

“Ready.” Sheik and Horon reply, Aveli and Lynna waiting back.

“One... two... three!”

Sheik dashes in ahead when the monsters aren’t looking, throwing out three daggers, all of them hitting their targets. She’s then able to hide behind the spiral staircase, the creatures confused as to what hit them. You see your chance and head on in after her, firing volleys at the closest Stalfos, then the second closest, and finally getting a direct hit on the third’s central eye-like structure, knocking it down. But while you’ve been able to damage the first two, they quickly retaliate by throwing icy spears at your direction. Your attempt to dodge away doesn’t work out as well as you’d have liked, as the spears shatter near you, shards of ice hitting your side and knocking you down with a frigid pain.

[Hearts: 6.5/11]
[Bolts: 82/90]

Horon tosses forth pair of fireballs at the monsters, but it misses them as they back off. You see them try to reform another pair of spears, but the previous Stalfos is still down, prone.

You prepare your crossbow again as Sheik tosses another pair of daggers at your foes, Horon this time managing to hit them with a pair of fireballs. Aveli too rushes in, tackling them as they try to reform their spears, though one of them smacking her in the face as it’s tackled. But you’ve got your opening!

You fire another couple volleys at the monsters, finishing them off. The final one is still prone, and you quickly draw your sword and jump towards it, stabbing the blade down into the monster’s head. That finishes it for good, and all three vanish into blackened mist. Close one. But you made it. Lynna moves in, making sure the door behind her is closed. “Not hearing any more monsters coming, so think we’ve got a bit to breathe.”

Aveli pats her face, rubbing a bit of the frost off it. “Well, that’s some good news.”

“We still shouldn’t stay here for too long. I doubt even this is a dent in their numbers.” Sheik comments, gathering her daggers.

“We should restock and recover while we have the chance. Everyone keep your eyes open for anything that may be useful, and stay alert for anything coming by.”

“Got it, Z.” Aveli replies with a thumb’s up, starting to search for herself, Sheik and Lynna looking around the stage area.

You look through a few shelves on the walls, pots scattered near the tables, and some of the remnants of the monsters. The spears don’t look very usable, not unless you have some way to keep your hand from freezing when you touch it. You do manage to recover your bolts, however, and even find some stuff to recover your strength with. And in the pots you scrounge up about... 28 Rupees. Not bad!

[Hearts: 8/11]
[Bolts: 90/90]

“Hrmn... looks like that Armory is right down the hall, to the south.” Horon comments, pointing in that direction.

“The other hallway is to our east, then.” Sheik states. “The one leading to the study in the back.”

“Then that’s where the other Darknuts were coming from... ah, then they might be heading back here.” Lynna realizes. “W-we should head up before they come back.”

“Right. Let us move.” You head up the spiral staircase, not moving too quickly so you don’t attract attention, but being careful so you’re not anywhere close to the door if the Darknuts come back. Poking your head up in the next level, it looks to be a room similar to the one below you, large and circular with a few tables and a stage... wait. You don’t see any doors. This is odd. No monsters around, but... you have a rather uneasy feeling here. And the floor... it seems colder.

You search around the walls, noticing several old paintings along them. Portraits of military leaders, you’d guess. Wait... some look familiar, one is even wearing similar armor and possessing similar features to Zas. You raise your hand to your chin. That’s... wait, that’s not a military leader. That’s a portrait of the head chef of the castle from back when you were little. You move the painting slightly... and you notice the wall next to it moves with him. Revealing a door! Aha! “Everyone, keep your eyes open for portraits or anything that doesn’t belong along the walls! Try to find anything that looks suspicious.”

Lynna smiles and nods, her eyes searching through the room. Horon likewise keeps a watch out, Sheik and Aveli paying attention to the spiral staircase. Okay! You’ll keep looking too. So the chef was out of place, that’s the easy one. Hrm... but what else? Military leaders, soldiers standing in formation, a... wait. Okay, that’s unusual. A picture of the Hero... your time’s Hero, and he seems to be standing beside... another warrior? Though his outfit is more regal, seems to be a prince.

He’s also surrounded by frogs. Strange.

The problem though is moving the picture... does nothing. No door, nothing opening up. So much for that idea. You keep looking, seeing a Hylian woman in knight’s garb, then a human woman, one with familiar eyes, in a similar outfit. No... they’re not familiar to you, and given the portrait of the Hero and the Prince, you’d guess they’re not out of place.

...Wait a second. You think you’ve got an idea now. There’s a portrait of another knight, a human woman, but... this one seems to match the portrait you saw on one of the books Sheik was reading. You move the picture... and another door is revealed! You do a little fist pump in the air. Success!

Lynna likewise has found something, a portrait out of place, one of an individual in knightly armor... that looks like the true form of the Skull Kid you had seen back in the Lost Woods. That one, positioned near the back wall, doesn’t reveal a door, but instead the ceiling opens up, and down moves another spiral staircase. Lastly, Horon picks out one final portrait among the ones adorning the walls... wait, that is the human woman you noticed before.

“Aha!” He moves it. And a third door appears.

“How did you know that one was correct?” you question.

“That lady’s no warrior. She’s Captain Douglas’s mother.” Horon explains. “Met her a while back. Really nice. Heh, betcha he put this one up himself.”

“We’ve got company below.” Aveli tells you. “Better start moving.”

So. Three doors, one south, east, and west, and a staircase leading upwards. There are a few places you could hide though, a few larger closets and pots. Hrmn...

“Everyone, find a place to hide.” you ask, your allies scattering across the room. But as you do, you also remember to close up the opened doors... wait, no, all except one. You leave the one to the west still open, then hide yourself in a large crate. Okay, plan set, now to- “...Horon what are you doing in here?”

“You told me to hide!” he exclaims quietly, cramped in there with you. “I’m hiding!”

“Find another-” You’re cut off by footsteps from below. “...Fine, but stay quiet. ABSOLUTELY quiet.”

The Darknuts march up the stairs, low growls coming out from three distinct individuals. “This is ridiculous, how could any intruders even- ...why is that path open?”

“I knew it! After them!” one barks out, charging in your direction and through the door. The other two follow behind him, though one seems to stop near you. He sniffs the air, growling. You stay as still as you can, holding your breath, Horon trying his hardest not to audibly gulp.

“Hrrll... couldn’t be.” He marches closer, you keeping absolutely still, in spite of how cramped the crate is. “...Hmnh.”

He leaves, and both you and Horon sigh loudly in relief when he’s gone. “Next time, pick a better spot. That was much too close.”

“Okay, okay, sorry!” He gets out, and you follow after, Sheik descending from the ceiling as Aveli pokes her head out of a larger jar, Lynna moving out of a crate herself. You notice Sheik glaring at the boy accusingly, but she doesn’t say anything. Out loud, at least.

“Okay, bought us some time. Where to now?”

You think for a moment, and then place the Mask of Truth on your face. The paintings that are connected to the doors seem to have some mechanisms behind them. Curious. Wait... there are two more, but they don’t seem to have doors connected to them.

“With them going down the western path, it would be best we move in the opposite direction. Take note of those paintings for later, though.” You point out the two you’d spotted with the Mask of Truth. “Now, let us be off, before they come back.”

Lynna and Horon both look at the paintings you pointed towards, both making mental notes on which ones they are, before heading off with you. You open up the eastern door, revealing a hallway... with a few smaller monsters visible outside. Keese, nesting by the windows. To your right, heading south, you notice a couple Darknuts leaving through another door. But when you follow, the entrance is nowhere to be seen. There is a door at the end of the hallway, but one that leads south.

“The Darknut said there would be a hidden room past this second floor hallway, but in the back...” You look to the other end of the hallway. Dead end. So that means there’s something you need to do to open it up. “Maybe we can search for whatever opens the path in the back here...”

“Z, no offence, but I can probably break through there with this thing.” the Gerudo girl comments, lifting the massive ball and chain mace. “We are in a hurry.”

You place the Mask of Truth on once more, investigating the area. Aha, there is a door after all! And the mechanism operating it... hrmn. It isn’t a painting this time, but it’s apparently next to a suit of armor. Wait no, UNDER it! You move to it quickly, asking Aveli to push it aside. The wall shifts, revealing the door behind it... and you feel a chilly breeze come from the area ahead.

Suspiciously chilly. You caution everyone as you move forward, opening the door and stepping inside... but stop yourself before you place your foot down. The floor is completely covered in ice, like a frozen pond. You move in carefully, getting your footing. You might encounter more of these, so best to know how to deal with them here and now while you have some time to breathe. Sheik is able to keep herself from slipping, Aveli and Horon following you carefully, though Lynna almost stumbles for a moment. You’re able to catch her and get her back up. Thinking ahead, you also call out Zas to head off behind you all and move the armor back so you don’t raise suspicion.

Near the center of the room, illuminated by the light outside... you see just what you’ve been waiting for. The floorplan of the fortress!

Five ghostly figures circle around your group from above, all of them laughing ominously. Your group tries to maintain their composure, but you quickly realize just how difficult this might be. The floor is slippery and frigid, and your foes don’t have to walk across it.

Worse, if you try to run they may alert the Darknuts patrolling the fortress. Zas may be able to help fend one off, but that will still leave four with an advantage against you, and you will be unable to use any more magic. You need to be careful with this. What to do...?

“Horon, with me! We need to both cast Din’s Fire to remove the ice!” you call out to him after dismissing Zas, the boy sliding across the ice to you. “Everyone else, take cover!”

“Gotcha! On your mark!” Horon responds as Sheik moves to help Lynna away from the center of the room, Aveli taking cover under a table near the back.

“NOW!” The both of you pull your hands back, building magic up between them, then together slam your hands to the ground, a fireball erupting around the both of you and blazing across the room, melting the ice on the ground and catching all of the Poes with the blast, three of them knocked back by the blast, severely damaged. Out of magical power for now, but looks like your plan worked.

[Magic: 0/5]

Sheik sees her opportunity to strike, and lets Lynna down to leap down at one of the injured Poes, slashing hard at it. It’s not enough to put it down though, and the Poe smacks her with its lantern in retaliation. Lynna flings the Gale Boomerang out to keep it from harming her any further, managing to catch both it, which finishes the monster off for good, and one of the less injured Poes with the attack, though that one tries swinging its lantern to deflect the boomerang. Unsuccessfully, but it keeps the weapon from returning to Lynna’s hand, instead falling a short distance away from her.

Aveli meanwhile swings out her large ball and chain mace, catching the other less injured Poe and smashing through a heavily injured one, putting an end to it. However, as she tries to pull the weapon back, the Poe she struck first manages to thwack her with its lantern too.

So, that’s two down, one heavily injured, and two significantly injured. You’re almost through with them!

You fire out your Hookshot and pull at the Poe closest to Aveli, aiming for its lanterns to try and disarm it, firing a crossbow bolt at it as well. It’s knocked away as it’s disarmed, Sheik tossing a dagger at it to finish it off. You do the same with the other Poe, Horon moving in to slash down at it with his own sword, though in his rush he gets hit by the lantern you’re pulling back.

“OW! H-hey!” he calls back after he slashes down on it.

“You should be more careful.” Sheik tells him critically. “Move too hastily and you may bring yourself into danger.”

“Z! One left!” Aveli calls out. The prone one. “I’ll guard you, strike it down!” she yells further.

“Hrrraaaahhh!” You draw both your swords, Aveli guarding against a retalitory strike as it attempts to get back up, allowing you the chance to slash through it with both your blades. The final foe vanishes, and all of you manage to breathe out a sigh of relief. Their lanterns vanish with them, but they do manage to leave behind five Poe souls. Ah, but you don’t have enough bottles to carry them out of here. Though your allies do seem a little damaged, and you yourself are out of magic...

“Aveli, you’ve taken the brunt of the damage so far. You should heal up. Here.” You offer her the Red Potion, then take the Blue Potion out. “And Horon, we need to recover our health and magic. Share?”

His demeanor brightens. “Sure! Thanks, Princess.” You take a drink first, downing half of it, then give the remainder to Horon. Ahh, nice blueberry flavor to it. That’s just what you needed.

Aveli offers some of hers to Sheik and Lynna, but both decline, stating they’re still in relatively good shape. With that done, you collect two of the Poe souls and then spread the map of the fortress out. You start to finally get an idea of just HOW massive the fortress is. You’ve barely been through a quarter of it so far. With everyone gathered around, you ask your allies, “Where do you all think we should head next? Anything that seems important?”

“Well, if this thing is accurate, the top of the tower probably has the thing these Darknuts are trying to use for their nefarious plot, so that’s the end goal.” Horon states. “Get up there and get the ice thing, whatever it may be.”

“The third floor is strange, what are these structures all lined up here?” Lynna questions. “And this bit in the center... it seems to run down the three main floors. I think it’s where that switch was. The one controling the cold.”

“I’d suspect they’re embrasures for the fortress’s cannons.” Sheik notes. “What draws my attention is the area to the back of the main tower’s third floor. It looks to be sealed off from the rest of the area.”

“Plus there’s bound to be a whole bunch of the pups wandering around both this and the lower floor.” Aveli pipes in. “We might need to clear them out sooner rather than later.”

You’ve got a lot of options then...

>A. Let’s focus on the main tower first
>B. We should finish clearing out this floor before heading on
>C. Third floor’s cannons, we need to do something about them
>D. That secret room on the third floor, let’s check it out first

“Sheik, I believe you have a good idea. While we will need to deal with the Darknuts soon, and while the top of the main tower most likely has what we are looking for, we should not discount the secret room on the third floor.” You close up the map. “Is this an agreeable plan?”

“Sure is.” Horon responds. “Lead the way.”

Sheik seems to smile under her mask, following along as you lead, having Zas open the way again. Outside the hallway is silent again, though you glimpse a Darknut heading due south, through one of the secret entrances. You reach the door to the main tower again, but you hear voices on the other side.

“...losing our minds. Someone would have spotted them by now!”

“We’re missing a few reports from the Chillfos. They could have returned to the lower level. Keep your eyes open, and keep a patrol on this main tower, no one rests until they’re caught.”

You motion for everyone to hold back, then call forth Zas. You direct him to head into the room south of the main tower, cause a commotion and give you a clearer shot through. As he heads in, you wait for the monsters to make their move, and then head on in. Three remain, standing watch over the southern doorway and the spiral staircase, while the last starts a patrol between the two. They seem to be taking turns. Best to go through here one at a time then.

Paying close attention to the Darknuts’ movements, you circle around back, staying far away from their line of sight and moving as quietly as you can. Finally you reach the other side, dashing through at the last moment when one turns its head in your direction. Thank goodness they’re leaving these doors open now, or else that’d be even more tricky. Sheik almost scares you into letting out a yelp of surprise as she seems to appear out of nowhere, having dashed past them and even you and into this hallway.

“T-try not to do that when it’s so tense.” you request.

“My apologies, Princess.” A slight, but friendly smile again appears on her face. “At the very least, it seems my skills are still rather sharp.”

Aveli comes in next, almost slamming the door behind her. You and Sheik both stop her from doing so, the Gerudo girl apologizing and then sitting down. “Hoooh. How you manage to stay quiet around those pups is gonna be a mystery to me, felt like my heart was gonna stop a couple times. Not exactly used to these stealth movements yet, think one almost spotted me.”

“It may well have.” Sheik states as she moves closer to the door. “I can hear them moving.”

“...Crap. Sorry.”

Thankfully they’re distracted by Zas engaging with a number of the Darknuts on his own, giving Horon a chance to head through undetected. Lynna seems to take longer, but you notice the Darknuts aren’t making as much commotion. When she finally makes it through, you see that she was able to hide one of the barrels in the room, slowly moving along so she isn’t detected.

Lynna lets out a weak chuckle. “I think... I think I am starting to get good at that kind of game.”

With everyone making it through without incident, you reach the stairs heading north... and find that while there is a secret room there, a large study, the door in the back is locked tight. Sheik frowns. “Perhaps this was a less than ideal plan.”

>A. There may be a key to it on a level below, then

“We cannot give up so readily. There still may be things to investigate in this room.” You look around the study, noticing some scattered documents along a desk, with a few books laid out as well. The shelves too look like they are filled with important documents. “Perhaps we can gather some clues to this Fortress, and what the Darknuts are truly planning.”

“Eh, okay.” Aveli gives a shrug, heading to the stairway. “I’ll keep watch then.”

“May I help, Princess?” Lynna requests.

“Certainly. The more we look over the better.”

Horon scans across the books on the shelves, picking out a book that catches his eye. “Huh, looks like there’s some documents on the Nobles here. Hrmn... forces they can muster, mostly. Some of it looks dated, from the war. But maybe...” His voice grows quieter as he starts reading, mumbling to himself.

Lynna meanwhile starts looking through some logistical papers, what appear to be inventoried weapons and the like. Sheik meanwhile helps you go over what seems to be the most important set of documents, notes on magic. There’s a good deal of esoteric and archaic language used, similar to that book on magic you’d read in Castle Town. Some things seem to look like research notes, with more clearly defined and modern language.

There looks to be a large focus on some kind of Ice enchantment and a corresponding Fire enchantment, but the Fire is lacking in more recent documentation. Still, the Ice enchantment looks to have been originally intended for arrow and crossbow bolt, but has since been successfully applied to... cannonballs, and even cannons themselves. There seems to be mention of Gerudo help with the weapons. Hmm... you do recall that weapon they had used previously.

Notes in another handwriting style seems to paint a less flattering picture. There appear to be tests done against enemy combatants during the war... and more than that. Prisoners of War... monsters... animals.... You gasp softly. Darknuts were used as well, live fire tests. Could this have been done by one of the factions... or is this even more recent, with these weapons being used by the Darknuts on themselves?

You look to the locked room in the back. Something tells you there’s more to this locked in there, but you’ll need a key to it first. Lynna moves the documents she’s been going over to you and Sheik. “This is probably a bit outdated, but from the look of things there are enormous reserves of weaponry, armor, and projectiles. And... way more cannons than what seems like this fortress SHOULD have. Nearly eighty are in the inventory.”

“E-eighty?!” Horon exclaims. “That’s nuts! Where are they keeping them all?”

“This floor may hold the answer. But... Princess, you recall one of them carrying around a cannon previously, when we fought them off, correct?” Sheik asks.

You nod. “Indeed. Which means at the very least, some of the cannons have been taken from the fortress already... how many remains to be seen. Especially if they are undergoing some sort of enchantment here... they could be using the cannons for a much larger operation.”

Horon gasps and almost shoves the documents he’s been going over in front of you. “Princess, is that’s true they could be using these to know exactly where and when to strike! That map you got at the entrance, what plans did it lay out again?”

You bring it out and open it, Horon checking between the map and the documents he’s been looking over. “So... is it what you suspected?”

He nods. “Yeah. They’re probably going after some of the weaker retinues first. The data is a bit outdated, but they’ve taken into account the passage of time. Princess... we need to get these things out of here as soon as possible. This is a full-scale invasion.”

“Before that though, we will need to understand the ice weapons they are working on.” Sheik comments. “It won’t be much use preparing without a countermeasure.”

“Taking down a bunch of those pups should also help us in the long run.” Aveli adds in. “Thin their numbers and they’ll be less of a threat later.”

They all do have a point. The longer you stay here, the more they have a chance to prepare, but the less you know about their weapon, the harder it will be to fight against them, and removing some of their stronger soldiers could help keep the Kingdom safe later on...

>A. We find the Ice enchantment first and foremost

“While Horon does have a point, the more pressing matter is learning more about the Ice enchantment that they are working on. The canisters on the first floor, the pipes with engravings on them, the cannons, we need to know what they are exactly and how to deal with them.” You close up the map and gather as many documents as you can. “Does that sound agreeable?”

Sheik and Horon nod, Aveli giving a shrug. “Sure. Still don’t think it would hurt that much to thin their numbers a bit, but guess we do have to figure out what’s up with that Ice stuff.”

“Then let us figure out a plan on that...”

Suddenly, Horon’s fairy flies towards you. “Princess, maybe I could help scout out the fortress, while you investigate this area.” Felicia suggests.

“Thank you Felicia. Would you mind if I have Zas investigate with you? He may have attracted their attention, but I feel that it would be helpful keeping them from detecting you.”

The fairy flies around you curiously, thinking over your suggestion. “Hmm... yeah, that could work. Thanks for watching out for me, Princess.”

“You are welcome, and thank you again.” As the fairy leaves, first reminding Horon to behave himself, you get an idea. You call the other two fairies forth. “I have something to request of the two of you. Would you both be able to scout ahead for us as we investigate this floor?”

The first, a more yellowish one, is a little hesitant. “Umm... could be dangerous, but-”

“Woohoo! Let’s do it!” the other, a blue fairy, blurts out. “So great to be useful finally! Come oooon!~”

You keep yourself from giggling as the blue fairy drags the yellow one along, heading through the door to the main tower. You and your allies move along once they assure that the coast is clear, entering into the tower section. Fairly similar to the previous two levels, though this one possesses a section devoted to a smaller armory, with armors, axes, maces, swords, and spears all lined up for easy use. There is a spiral staircase leading up, but only one other door to the south. And you can guess what it is being used for.

The fairies go on ahead, and you wait for their return. The sound of growling comes from the other side of the door. Darknuts are definitely in there. The fairies return, the both of them panting and frightened. “D-don’t go in there. Do NOT go in there!” the yellowish one requests. “A dozen Darknuts, ten cannons, five Wosu, and five wolf mounts. You’d get slaughtered!”

“...Okay that’s too much for even us to handle.” Horon comments flatly. “Well... dang. What do we do now?”

As if on cue, you see Felicia return with Zas... the fairy doing her best to fly a key over to you. “Egh. A-almost... agh... come on...”

You hurry to her, and she drops it in your hands. “Thank you so much. Where did you find this?”

“The main area on the floor below this one, it’s covered in ice of varying degrees of thickness, but in the back there was a chest with this inside. There’s also like... ten Darknuts in there, on patrol. Zas really has them on edge, they were chasing him all over.”

“Way to go, Felicia!” Horon cheers quietly.

“Were there any icicles on the ceiling in the room south to us?” you ask the fairies. “Something that may be used against them?”

“Sorry Princess, nothing that could do any serious damage to them.”

“...Then I have an idea.” You head over to the armory section of the room. “We block this door. Do whatever we can to keep them from coming in here. We can not handle that many at once, so if we can keep them from following us, we should be a bit safer.”

Aveli frowns, but seems to agree with it. “Yeah, guess you’re right. Just wish there’d be some way to take out the pups while they’re all in one place...”

Everyone pitches in to move several shelves and heavier pieces of equipment to the door, blocking it off solidly. With that secure, you head to the locked door, opening it up... and entering a lab of some sort. One with lots of arcane writing, archaic Hylian like those on the pipes... and a bit of parchment that lets off a soft blue glow of magic. You look down, trying to decipher what you can of it... and realize that it is in fact the enchantment you’ve been looking for.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCQ7IeEFok8

The [Ice Arrow] Spell.

Though... it isn’t quite just applicable to arrows. Looking at the extended bits of text on documents near it, you see just how it’s being used to enhance cannons... and create something much worse. A cannon that fires off some kind of fluid that encases things in ice... it could even change weather patterns, creating local blizzards. “Goddesses...” you breathe out.

“This is bad...” Horon states, shaking his head. Well... there it is. But it may take time to understand it completely...

“Horon, you are also good with magic, come, you should look this over too.” you tell the boy, your eyes going over every bit of information you can on this spell.

“Well... okay, I’ll give it a shot.” Horon sits down with you, the two of you spending some time researching this magic. Lynna looks over it as well, though more out of curiosity than attempt to learn, as Sheik and Aveli keep watch, and converse for a short time.

You’re a bit too focused in research to really get a good idea on what they’re talking about, but you do feel a little relieved that they’re getting along, at least. Finally, you start to get a better understanding of the magic, and once you’re confident you know it, you attempt to apply the enchantment. You bring out your crossbow and take aim at a bookshelf on the other side of the room. You focus, using your left hand to try and apply the spell... and seem to misjudge how much magic it requires, as while you do apply the spell, firing a bolt off... sends out a slight backlash, leaving frost building up all over the crossbow and hitting your arm with a short but slightly painful jolt of cold. Ow, ow, ow! You set the crossbow down and try to warm your arm up. You see Horon forcing himself not to laugh, turning his head from you. The second attempt goes off without a hitch, and thankfully you’re able to collect a few spare bolts from the room to replenish your supply. You smile wide and look down at your hands. Success!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N83b0NE5omg

You’ve learned the [Ice Enchantment] Spell!

[Cost: 1 per use]
[RNG: <Weapon>]
[ATK: <Weapon> +1, Freezes]

You also manage to learn more about the principles behind it. Not only can you apply it to your Crossbow, you can add it to your Bombs and Bombchus as well, with them letting out a blast of cold air as they explode. You even have an idea on how you might be able to apply this effect to Din’s Fire, instead of letting out a blast of flame, instead a blast of frost. But that will take more time.

Horon likewise manages success with the Spell. You do get a little curious on how he plans to utilize it... and he then brings out the wooden shield he purchased. You shake your head. “You will waste money on them if you keep breaking them.”

“No no no, I can use it to slide with! I apply the enchantment, and then can slide across things with the shield more easily!” he explains.

You... have to admit. It is a fairly unique trick. Perhaps it could come in handy soon. Okay! Spell learned, you’re set to go!

You have the Spell learned. You have the documents on the Darknuts’ plans, and an idea on when they will enact them. Now comes the tricky part. How are you going to be able to get out of here? Or should you keep looking through the fortress for more supplies?

You notice that Aveli seems a little anxious. She’s still clearly fairly cold, but all this sneaking around seems to have put her on edge. Sheik looks like she’s been trying to reassure her, but still... she’s uneasy.

>A. We should think of some ways to disrupt their operations further. Anything that can slow them down in the long term

You stand tall and address your allies. “Before we leave the Fortress we will need to do something to disrupt their operations. Whatever we can to damage their plan of attack in the long run.”

Aveli’s eyes light up a bit. “What do you have in mind, Z?”

An... admittedly mischevous smirk appears on your face. “Perhaps it would be the best way to test this Ice enchantment.”

“Well. I kinda like the sound of that.” Horon pats his shield.

https://youtu.be/Q7vwr1Ls2hw

Heading back out to the main tower, you give your enchantment a real field test, applying it to a Bombchu and setting it loose up the spiral staircase to the next level, your allies removing some of the barricaded items from the southern door, just enough to open the door and set a few bombs through. Once you’re able to, you set off another couple Bombchus, without the enchantment, and set them loose towards the cannons, quickly barricading the door back up.

The test of your Ice enchantment proves successful, as the Bombchu explodes at the entryway and blocks it off, encasing it in ice. The other pair hit their marks as well, catching the Darknuts by surprise and clearly damaging or perhaps even destroying some of their cannons. The howling, barking, yelling, and swearing from the other door grows closer, but you’re already down to the next level once they start banging on the door.

The second floor of the main tower does have some guards stationed in it, but your allies are quick to attack them before they can call for reinforcements. Sheik is able to dash behind them both and slash at their backs, removing their armor, though one of the monsters is able to retaliate, knocking her aside. Aveli is able to bring out her chain mace and critically smacks it into both monsters, knocking them down, while Horon tests his enchantment with his shield, using the Ice built up on it to make it able to more easily slide across the ground, then spinning with his blade as he reaches the two monsters, finally felling them.

You make it down to the next level. Your end goal should be the loading dock, so first you. “THERE THEY ARE! SOUND THE ALARM!” a monster howls out. Five Darknuts advance upon your group. You’re able to toss out an Ice Bomb to hold them off, hitting one and freezing the floor under two more, but, to your shock, the final two, both in ornate armor, are able to strike at you with Sword Beams, knocking you down and leaving a painful mark.

“Everyone, keep going, now!” you shout out. Lynna opens the door, Horon dashing past as Sheik and Aveli back up. “I said now!” you shout out, bringing out a Deku Nut. The Sheikah and Gerudo nod at you, and head in as you throw down the Deku Nut, blinding the group of Darknuts. You toss out another Ice Bomb, freezing them in place, then head on into the armory with everyone else.

You watch as another Darkhammer is felled by your allies, Sheik stabbing it repeatedly as Aveli smashes its face with the chain mace, Horon sliding across the floor and stabbing into its neck with his sword. The monster falls... and falls right onto Horon and Aveli, knocking the both of them down. Sheik and Lynna pull them away, with Lynna healing up Aveli’s injuries.

Your eye catches the switch you saw previously, the one Horon pressed. You slam your fist on it, yelling coming up from above. With this moment to catch your breath, you start heading towards the loading dock...

And waiting for you is a pair of Darknuts on mounts, a Darkhammer with two massive hammers in its hands, and a pair of Wosu accompanying it. One of the mounted Darknuts calls out to all of you, “You’ve gone far enough! You can make this painless, or you can die a slow death in combat!”

You ready one more Ice Bomb, an almost manic grin on your face as the monsters look to you with confusion. “No. No I think not. HA!” You chuck it as hard as you can at the Darkhammer, a freezing blast exploding in its face that not only catches it off-guard, but also manages to catch the monsters near it. “Go! Give them everything we have!” you call out, following the explosion of ice up with another Bomb. One of the Wosu manages to fire off a Sword Beam at you, but you power through it and keep throwing Bombs and setting out Bombchus.

As they’re bombarded, Sheik tosses out her Needles, Aveli launching the chain mace hard enough that it damages the elevator, though not managing to destroy it completely. Horon blasts out a flurry of fireballs, yelling loudly as explosions rip through the area. The Bombchus hit the monsters, and some even travel upwards along the walls, blasting into some damages parts of the ceiling. Freezing fluid spills forth from it, covering the loading dock’s floor with ice.

With the monsters thoroughly vanquished, you out of explosives, and everyone else more or less spent, another group barges in from the stairway leading to the second level. You’re able to give them a cheeky smile as you call for your allies to grab on to you, then use the last of your Magic to escape to the entrance!

...And are confronted by none other than the Darknut Prince, apparently waiting for you at the exit. “Did you think you all would be able to run so easily? What do you think this accomplished?!” He points his blade forward, right at you, snarling. “And you. YOU. You’ve been a thorn in my side for FAR too-!”

His speech is interrupted by Lynna clocking him in the side of the head with her Hookshot, grabbing on and stealing his helmet. Though the sudden blow causes his blade to swing wildly, knocking his helmet free. It smacks into Lynna’s shin, causing her to fall over in pain. But she’s given you all the chance you need to run! ...Or you could attack the Darknut Prince.

Almost reflexively, you bring out a Deku Nut and then poke a bolt through a little of the shell, then fire it with a volley into the Darknut Prince’s exposed face, blinding him, the monster letting out screams out in agony. “GRAAAAHHHH! YOU BITCH!”

You narrowly avoid him trying to charge at your group, getting a small cut on your cheek as his sword misses your head, Sheik and Horon tossing a dagger and a fireball at him to force him away from your group, the Sheikah and the boy likewise narrowly avoiding one of his sword swings. In one smooth action you help Lynna up, carrying her as you yell out, “RUN! NOW!”

Everyone marches through the snow as quickly as they can, your heart pounding as you keep at it, until Snowpeak Fortress is no longer in view. Only then do you let Lynna down, the adrenaline rush that was keeping you sprinting finally over. You fall to your knees, your arms feeling a little weak... and start to laugh. Partly out of relief that you’ve survived that encounter, partly from the sheer thrill of pulling all of that off. Everyone else starts to laugh with you, taking a moment to rest and catch their breaths. You’ve done it.

https://youtu.be/qu-bUOMdJEc

“That... that was insane... that was completely insane!” Lynna exclaims through her laughter.

“What’s insane is you interrupting that big dumb pup’s speech, hahahahaha! I bet he was PRACTICING that one! And you just up and steal his helmet like that!” Aveli tells her. “Haha, you... you’re great!”

“I swear my heart was going to jump out of my chest when I saw him charge... hahaha, but the look on his face, Princess, when you hit him with that! Hehehahaha...” Horon falls back into the snow, still chuckling.

Even Sheik’s more reserved laughter is... a little uplifting. She offers her hand to help you up. “You have certainly messed with their plans, Princess. They may still make their attack attempt, but at the very least Hyrule will be better prepared to deal with it.”

“Indeed...” Goddesses, you are exhausted. Might be best to get some proper rest when you can.

“Where to next, Z?” Aveli asks you.

>A. We go back to the Zora colony, to rest and recover after all this
>B. We’re heading straight to Castle Town, we can not waste any time
>C. Something else?

>>3163086

>>
>>3163086
Alerting Captain Douglas would be best I think.
>>
Snowpeak's forces and allies will probably be on high alert after this, we should expect a heavy ambush at night, or a response party at the bottom of the mountain.

>>3163135
>>3163146
We can send along Keaton ahead of us, get the messaging out in front in minimum time.

“We go back to the Zora colony, to rest and recover. We can not spend too long there, we do have to make haste and deliver what we know to those with the ability to prepare, but it would be foolish to continue on without some genuine rest.” You start on your way, looking out at the orange-tinted snow from the setting sun.

“Guess we didn’t have much time to really recover much from the fortress, but still feel like this was worthwhile.” Horon states with a wide grin on his face, placing his hands behind his head and walking with you.

“Kicking those pups’ butts is always a good time in my book!” Aveli cheers out.

“I’m just glad we made it without any serious injuries.” Lynna comments, looking to you with a sweet smile. “Um... thank you, Princess. You didn’t really have to, you know, carry me like that. But thank you.”

“You are welcome. Your shin did take a sharp blow. Will you be okay?” you ask her.

She nods. “Yeah. It’s probably gonna leave a bit of a bruise, but I’ll be fine.”

“In any case, we should reach the town as quickly as possible.” Sheik interrupts a little.

She does have a point... “Ah, while we are there, it may be best to try and send out a messenger to somewhere... perhaps to Captain Douglas? He might be able to rally some forces the quickest. Perhaps Keaton could get the message out once we arrive...”

“Great idea, Princess! Ooh, I might be able to help him with that!” Horon exclaims.

You nod as you pick up the pace. Snowpeak Fortress proved just as dangerous as you were warned, but you managed to accomplish much in your time there. You and your allies are one step closer to saving Hyrule!
