The year is 2019, by the reckoning of the primitive tau’ri.

A little over one year ago the supreme system lord Ra was slain aboard his ship above the planet of Abydos, sending the galaxy into chaos as other system lords fight for dominance in an empire now without a leader. Apophis, brother of Ra, is currently the most powerful of the gods but even he struggles against other goa’uld in this time of conflict and warfare. Legions of jaffa march to the drums of war as their gods summon them to battle, ha’tak clash in grand displays over subjugated worlds, and ancient enemies of the gods move in the shadows to act against them.

This is all a bit above your current concern however, if you even know about it. You’re currently in a very bad situation, escaping a labyrinthine goa’uld prison complex in fact, but who are you?

>A tau’ri explorer, almost totally ignorant of the galactic situation and part of an initiative to explore the stargate network.
>A jaffa who dared to dream of freedom from the rule of false gods.
>A strange goa’uld, forced into a new host after extreme torture destroyed your previous one.
>A real outsider, from another universe and time. A currently quite confused bounty hunter, to be precise.

>A strange Goa’uld, forced into a new host after extreme torture destroyed your previous one.

Your previous host was torn apart by your captors, so badly injured during your torture that not even a sarcophagus could properly revive them. The pain was immense, the worst you had ever felt in your life, every nerve connected to your blended mind alight with agonizing fire. Rods of anguish, devilishly sharp knives, and all other manner of foul instrument were used upon you. Your screams, and those of many others, filled the vast halls of the prison like the howls of cursed spirits. No force of will could shield from the horror, an unending stream of suffering that lasted for days - A mercifully short period, as their intention had been to torture you for years if not decades.

When your host finally began to fail, its human form no longer able to be sustained by your regenerative powers or even the technology of the sarcophagus, you were certain you would die. It seemed inevitable, unstoppable, that your end had finally come.

It was not to happen however, an attack on the complex giving you a brief chance to escape into a new host. How did you manage it?

>You were quickly thrown into a room with many other ‘corpses’ by jaffa as they ran off to fight intruders, and were approached by a Tau’ri soldier in the room that was also thought slain. They came too close to your former host, trying to check their vitals, and you were able to enter their body with a final burst of energy.

>The jaffa left you on the torturing table, their attention drawn away by the intruders assaulting the facility. A passing slave entered the chamber, searching for a weapon, and tripped and fell atop your old host - You seized the chance to escape, barely making it to them.

The staccato cracks of rapid firing primitive projectile weapons and the slower pulsing zaps of staff weapons can be heard echoing through the hallways of the prison, their faint sounds reaching the corpse filled chamber you reside in. The fighting is growing closer.

Entering the tau’ri with your last burst of energy, darting into their open mouth, you manage to secure a small hope of survival for the both of you. The new tau’ri host is badly injured, having suffered a staff weapon blast to their right side and several shrapnel wounds, and their drab green uniform is torn badly and soaked with blood. You aren’t in much better condition, still in shock from the torture you only just now escaped from.

Recoiling back in momentary horror, your entry anything but subtle, your host struggles against you. Their panicked mind races, trying desperately to draw up defenses against your takeover of their nervous system…

>Calm them! You are not like the other goa’uld, this action will save you both!
>Try to take full control! This tau’ri will be your new unquestioning host!

I’m intrigued by possibility to play as a rogue goa’uld, perhaps a minor offspring of a minor lord, forgotten enough to not gain a domain, more interested in exploring the galaxy than herding monkeys.

Building relationship with the host could also be interesting, if we don’t end up just enslaving him. But I’d rather have a willing host. With shared interest of wrecking whoever got us into this shit.

The female tau’ri is panicking, her heart racing faster and breathing labored as she attempts to scream - If this continues the blood loss from her shrapnel wounds will be too swift to halt and you will both perish! Even now she is close to death, staunching the flow of vital blood difficult, and this is only making it harder. The feeling of pulsing pain from her wounds is minor compared to the torture you endured, but it still floods through your shared mind. It is difficult to think, difficult to calm her, but you must try.

‘Calm yourself, tau’ri, I am not as the other goa’uld. I must heal you, for both our sakes.’

She continues to struggle for a moment, gagging, choking out cries for help… But a few heart beats later she listens. Tries to relax slowly, though not very successfully - You force her heart rate to slow, a crude technique but necessary currently. She slumps against a nearby wall, between the bodies of two slaves, and tries to stay still. Her thoughts are still racing, hard to pin down or examine, and in her current state she struggles to communicate with you mentally. The world is clear through her senses now, sharper than you remember your previous hosts to have been. The stench of death in the room is awful, the distinct iron taste of blood in her mouth unpleasant.

‘You must lie still, the bleeding will be stopped quickly. We share a common enemy.’

She nods to herself in a manner you find strange, unable to bring up coherent speech in her thoughts while maintaining her strong mental defenses, but she does allow you to begin your healing work.

A small explosion and the screaming of wounded men can be heard coming down the hallways, Jaffa by the sound of the staff weapon fire that starts up quickly afterward. The clattering cracks of projectile weapons continue to grow closer, occasionally sounding almost like the aggressive tearing of cloth by some angry god of lightning - More a single saw like noise than a rapid string of bangs.

An LSAT. No, two of them or it wouldn’t sound like that. There must be two teams coming.

Memories from your host begin to filter into your shared mind, allowed past her mental block. She tries to be careful, but more slips through. She is called…

I’m assuming SGC, but I guess we could try for a russian name, but Russians would likely keep us under lock and try to extract our ancestral knowledge out of us, probably with a lot of pain for both us and the host.
Or an European or other Asian name if OP wants to take liberties with the setting.

This new tau’ri host is called Sophie Lovelace, a scientist among her people and part of some sort of warrior group - You can get little else with her current attempts to prevent further melding, and don’t push the issue for now. Sophie is calming down as much as she can manage, getting a better read on the situation as she strains to hear the battle outside the room, and your work to stop the bleeding and begin healing the staff weapon wound are becoming easier. Even now you’re reducing the pain you both feel, in preparation to be able to move if the need arises.

The battle outside sounds just as if it is around only a corner or two, and growing more intense. Even through the thick metal door of this chamber you can clearly hear bursts of gun and staff fire exchanged in tight corridors - No longer distant echoes, but seeming to have stalled. The shouting outside the door, and the sound of clanking metal armor, grows louder as what you assume are more jaffa arrive to the battle. A lot more it seems, as the clanking and shouting continues to grow in volume along with the frequency of staff blasts increasing. Slowly it moves on, away from the door and back down the direction the fighting originally came in from. Are the tau’ri retreating? The room shakes a two small explosions rock the corridor outside again. You know those were grenades, gleaning the info from Sophie as the thought leaks through.

Sophie, managing a clear thought in coherent speech for the first time, speaks to you in her mind. You don’t hear her voice so much as feel it, her words almost a part of your own thoughts. It isn’t as natural as with your previous host, not yet anyways, the blending stalling and incomplete - She is holding it up. Mental barriers falls as she begins thinking at you, her natural will strong but clumsy and untrained, and you meld a bit more.

“We have to help them, whatever the hell you are.”

A good point actually, what is your name?

The goa'uld population is stagnating because there are enough system lords striving for power already, and some were simply deigned to be devoured alive
we had been very young when we managed to take over a host by arbitrary luck, we completely took him over and took his name at that time
Therefore nothing comes up when she would prod into our memory.

Our goal is to put our mother to rest whose genetic memory we have, free her of these pains where she knows her young are just designated to be a meal.
(unless op already has a small backstory thought up)

>’Relax your mind, if we work as one this will be easier.’
>>
‘I am known as Shanosh. Relax your mind, if we work as one this will be easier.’

“That just isn’t going to happen, I know what your species does to its hosts.”

‘It must happen if we are to survive, I am not like the other goa'uld. I cannot heal you if you do not fully allow me to.’

“...You’re just too injured to take me over, aren’t you?”

Keeping her thinking with you is working, the mental barriers breaking down steadily now, but it seems to be going both ways. You must be even more damaged than you first thought if a simple human can sense your weakness, especially one this close to death.

‘It was not my intention to do so.’

“But you are too weak, aren’t you? I can feel it, you’re barely able to stay conscious.”

The battle, sounding as if it is still growing more distant, flares in intensity momentarily. A series of five explosions in rapid succession, smaller than the ones from before. The loud report of a staff cannon responds a few moments later, the room shaking despite the impact being some distance away. Debris and dust fall from the carved stone ceiling, a few larger chunks smashing into other bodies in the room. The sound is awful, a wet crushing thud, the snapping of bones audible.

‘Are you blind to the urgency of the situation? We must work toget-’

You don’t have time to even finish the thought, her consciousness slamming into yours as her mental barriers are lowered. Melding is normally not this difficult, or so jarring, but normally you aren’t half shocked to death before hand. You can edit the pain from you shared consciousness now, reducing the searing red of it to a simple dull ache - movement will still cause physical injury for a time, but you can sustain this state for… minutes, perhaps. Together you flex your fingers, looking at your hands in half disbelief, followed by stretching your arms out and examining them as well.

The shrapnel wound on your left arm has already stopped bleeding, though it will take far longer to fully heal, and you tentatively lean against the wall and try to raise yourself up using it. You manage it, staggering up. The room shakes again, more staff cannon fire, a bit of debris falling again. Five more explosions answer it.
>>
Moving along the wall, using it for support, you hobble to the door control rune and turn it. The hieroglyph spins and the doors open - Thankfully few people lock rooms filled only with corpses.

The hallways outside is a mess, blast scorches and projectile craters covering much of it, and several jaffa corpses lay about the area and well as a sprawled out unmoving soldier from SG4. Sophie recognizes him as Lieutenant Cooke. The prison hallways seem to be of normal goa’uld construction, all sharp angles and yellow orange hues with splashes of grey stone and metal - It runs to both your left and right, wide enough for five warriors to stand side by side as they march down it. Supports pillars for the hallway form concealing cubbies along its length, giving spots to hide for cover in a battle.

You need a weapon before anything else, both of you agree on that subconsciously.

>Grab a staff weapon from the dead jaffa.
>Grab a zat’nik’tel from the dead jaffa.
>Check Lieutenant Cooke’s vitals, and take his radio and P90.

The 'healing device' is the stone thing they use a lot but doesn't ever get a proper goa'uld name if I recall correctly. The hara'kesh in the tiny assassin weapon Ashrak hide in their mouth.
>>

>>
>>3149897
>>3149847
>>3149832
So vitals check, radio, and P90 are definitely happening.

Yes or no for the zat?
>>
Crouching down slowly and braced against a support pillar you lower to Cooke’s side. He’s torn up badly, blood from a nasty gash on his forehead covering most of his face in half dried red and black, and the smell of burnt flesh repugnant to your senses as you get closer - Two staff weapon blasts, one to the upper abdomen and another to his lower left leg searing almost through the bone. Checking his vitals quickly you find that he has no pulse, a revelation which saddens but doesn’t surprise either half of your dual consciousness after seeing the wounds. If you can get healed somehow and carry his body to it the sarcophagus could revive him, healing his wounds but taking valuable time. The fact that you owed him money from a poker game briefly flickers through your mind, as well as thoughts of his family back on ea- The thought is cut off as Sophie jealously guards it from you. Melded or not some secrets will remain for a time.

You put the thought aside, focusing on survival, and take the radio from a pouch on his black plate carrier - It’s intact, and you place it in a pocket on your blood soaked uniform. His P90 also looks to be in good condition, fully loaded or very close to it you see upon checking the transparent helical magazine, and you snatch it up. Following a drill Sophie was taught you physically check its function, ensuring no hidden damage or heat warping has occured from the staff weapon blasts, and find that it is as functional as it appears. The reflex sight atop it is clear and intact, and the gun handles and balances well even injured as you are - A primitive but well made weapon.

Loud footfalls, unmistakably jaffa as the clanking of armor accompanies them, are coming down the left side of the hallway and they sound close to rounding the corner there. It sounds like a pair of them, running to the main fight further along. The battle is still raging down past the corner on the right side of the hallway, and there are certainly far more jaffa that way.

The Sophie half of you wishes to radio her allies, but you have no time currently.

>Take cover behind a pillar and get ready to ambush them.

Thinking quickly you prepare a bluff, standing up and hooking a foot under the shaft of a nearby staff weapon - you lightly flip it onto Cooke’s body with your foot, making it look vaguely as if he had held it before falling in battle. Slumping against a wall you play the part of a wounded goa’uld, a role that comes easily given the circumstances, and wait a few moments for the Jaffa to round the corner of the hallway.

The pair of jaffa, each wielding staff weapons and wearing their iconic metal armor, begin to slow their run as they spot you. Staff weapons start to lower but you interrupt them with a commanding shout, your eyes flashing brightly to observers as they momentarily become flush with naquadah from your bloodstream.

“JAFFA, KREE!”, you yell, with the deep and unmistakable voice of a goa’uld.

The jaffa move a few steps closer with haste and the practiced step of warriors obeying an order, stopping only a few meters from you. You can clearly see the black tattooed serpent symbol of Apophis on their foreheads, and the pair look ready to receive further orders but a little taken aback by your current hosts ravaged form.

“I have been injured in battle with the tau’ri”, you lie through your teeth while giving Cooke’s body a slight disrespectful kick and motioning to your staff blast wound, “but our great lord wishes I rejoin the fighting soon and capture another host.”

“We serve withou-”, the more senior of the pair begins to say in a gravelly voice, his grey eyes meeting yours for a moment.

“Rin nok! I did not command you to speak. Go and join battle with the others.”, you chastise him, raising a hand as if to strike but then pointing down the hallway. He nods hurriedly, running of to join the combat, leaving you alone with the other jaffa who looks at you somewhat… fearfully? He must assume you are an Ashrak contracted to Apophis, or something equally absurd. The fool!

This is going very well all things considered.

Can I get the cliff notes for what's going on setting-wise? I've seen the stargate movie, but none of this is ringing any bells.

>>3150284
Ancient aliens ordered the pyramids built, humanity eventually fought them off. We reopened the practically magic portals that can traverse the Galaxy and more, and have entered back into conflict with them and their slave races.

Some of the aliens are good though, the difference is a bit derivative sometimes.
>>
>>3150284
Seems like we are a Tok'ra (like a Goa'uld but against forcefully taking hosts and enslaving people) who was captured and being tortured endlessly in a Goa'uld fortress. Evidently there was a Star Gate team (or at least a member) also captured and brought here for torturing.

It would appear that Star Gate Command has authorised a mission to assault this fortress, perhaps as a general raid, or to recure their members.

As OP mentioned, this is all taking place around 2018 rather than the 80s (?) that the movie originally began in
>>
>>3150284
Most of the fluff will be coming from the show.

Goa’uld is the alien symbiote that takes over people and improves their physical and regenerative abilities. They like to pose as gods to control regular folk.

Zat thingy is a weapon that fires energy bolts that can stun people and disintegrate solid objects upon repeated exposure

Jaffa is a mutated human that serves as living incubator for young goauld and as military forces, usually zealously devoted to their masters.

There are other aliens pretending to be gods (the goa'uld) besides Ra, and one named Apophis attacked earth through the stargate a year after Ra was killed. Stargate Command was formed to combat the new threat and explore the stargate network, which turned out to lead to a whole fuck of a lot more planets than just one. Your current blended host is Sophie Lovelace, a scientist from one of the 'SG' teams that explore the gate network.

The goa'uld are (usually) evil parasite snake-things that live in and control unwilling hosts while making the body far stronger in the process, and the Jaffa are basically human slave-warrior incubators for their young that have enhanced abilities granted by baby goa'uld that live in their stomach.

You're currently a distinctly less evil goa'uld, maybe a Tok'ra (secretive goa'uld rebels that aren't cunts and have mutualistic relationships with their host) or otherwise rogue goa'uld, and an enemy of Apophis. The exact reason you're his enemy isn't established yet.

The goa'uld that pretend to be gods are known as system lords, they enslave primitive human worlds across the galaxy that were seeded many thousands of years ago with human populations, and are part of the feudal goa'uld empire which is currently in a big power struggle after Ra died.

Watch Stargate: SG-1 if you want more details, or flick through the wiki a bit. Its a fantastic show. I'm willing to explain things as they come up if needed.

A Stargate Quest, oh boy. Time To rewatch the show !
>>
You continue the ruse, commanding the remaining jaffa with your goa’uld voice, ”Take me to a healing device, and bring the slain tau’ri to the sarcophagus. He will not escape our lord Apophis even in death.”

The warrior thumps a clenched fist against his armored chest, arm crossing it in a traditional jaffa salute.

“It will be done at once.”, he replies quickly, his voice steady and disciplined despite the fear you see in his eyes.

Picking up Cooke’s burnt and lifeless body is a simple task for him, the jaffa’s enhanced strength and well trained muscle easily up to the task, and he leads you down the heavily engraved and ornate hallways of the complex. Soon you arrive at your destination, one you recognize all too well - the torturing chambers.

The torture chambers, reeking of death and stained with blood and worse, are horrible to be in even without their normal cruel workers present. The healing device you seek, a palm sized stone, is near the table you were tormented on just a few minutes ago. Two chambers away the massive healing sarcophagus resides, its decorative tan and gold stone bulk concealing the true complexity and power of the machine, and Cooke is placed in it by the jaffa. It will revive him, and quickly, but first you must tend to yourself. You order the jaffa to stand guard, and ensure no tau’ri approach.

Use of the healing device is simple for you as a goa’uld, and you work quickly - it hums and emits waves of light you pass over your host’s injuries. The shrapnel wounds knit themselves back together before your eyes, and the staff weapon burn slowly vanishes under the regenerative assault of the stone. The blood Sophie lost will need to recover over time, but you can speed that along a great deal so long as you eat something soon.

“That is... fascinating. Does it emit medical nanites of some kind?”

‘Nanites? I am unfamiliar with such a technology.’

“They're very small machines capable of working at a cellular level to repair injuries.”

‘I know of similar machines. This device does not use them.”

Your Sophie half seems to accept the answer for now, but you can feel her scientific curiosity pushing at your thoughts. There is no time for such discussion now though, the jaffa must be dealt with.

The armored warrior, still standing guard, crumples to the floor and dies terribly confused as you fire four armor piercing rounds from the P90 into his back roughly were his symbiote is located. The muzzle was almost contacting him directly, but he suspected nothing before the short burst began.
>>
>>3150443
You put another round in his head as jaffa have a nasty tendency to survive horrible wounds when you least expect it, and then take the snake-like zat’nik’tel from his wrist and disintegrate his corpse with three shots from it. The slaying caused quite a racket, the report of the primitive weapon very loud, but the area appears to be clear. Waiting a moment you still hear no approaching jaffa or slaves, and move out of hiding.

It will be a little longer before the sarcophagus finishes its revival process.

Why waste a perfectly useful ha'tak? Exiting a hyperspace window slows you down to the sub-light speed you entered at. It won't shatter a planet, and you might as well just use the on-board weapons to hit whatever you're targeting.

As we search, we should still try to exchange knowledge to learn more about these ‘SG teams’,
Shanosh could point out to Sophie that they might more willing if they understood more about who she was trying to "radio".

Speaking of which, I'd like to take this moment to remind everyone that the Goa'uld and Jaffa would have defeated Earth a thousand times over, if they had ever invented walkie talkies.
>>
>>3150446
I hate the 3 shot rule with the zat gun.
>>
>>3150748
I always wondered, if you can have this pistol sized weapon which fires just as fast as a staff weapon yet as arguably more reliably deadly / incapacitating (you can reliably kill or capture without injury) with no loss of accuracy or other such factors, why don't they have some sort of "rifle" sized variant that just spews forth a torrent of fire?
>>
>>3150748
you're not the only one
https://youtu.be/br-7sEAPhUk
QM, can you fix this?
>>
>>3150789
>>3150797
There can be a fix for the staff weapons.... I will have to dig something up....

As for the zaps, I recall watching the show with commentary for the episodes and the one episode where they first introduce it was when the writers were like "well we wrote ourselves into this pit, how do we get rid of this body?" Then one writer was like, "I know likes make it so the zats disintegrate the body after 3 shots! Problem solved."

Wouldn't be as peeved if it weren't for a later episode with the energy fireflies and SG1 teaching the noob SG team they were mentoring, where electrical stuff keeps them away, so they zap Jack multiple times till he can get to the star gate, and he doesn't die or get disintegrated.
>>
>>3150789
Pretty sure the point of the staff weapons is to be more loud and scary looking than a super effective weapon. It was described in-show as a "weapon of terror". That being said a disintegration gun does seem pretty terrifying, just not very loud etc
>>
>>3150789
they explained it in the show as well when they gave the Jaffa weapons
the staff weapons are more for prestige and ambush, and the Goa'uld are all about making their subjects fear them.
On earth we really are about efficiency.

They are also parasitic by nature, almost all of their tech is stolen and just bastardized to work for them
>>
>>3150801
>Wouldn't be as peeved if it weren't for a later episode with the energy fireflies and SG1 teaching the noob SG team they were mentoring, where electrical stuff keeps them away, so they zap Jack multiple times till he can get to the star gate, and he doesn't die or get disintegrated.
Presumably the effect wears off? I mean if it didn't, it'd be a really good thing to use as a penalty for crimes because even if the police can't prove you have committed multiple crimes / another crime, if they shot you with it again you'd die and they'd know you'd previously offended. Still a bullshit thing to be fair, although there is a fairly large amount of bullshit involved in Stargate.

>>3150805
>That being said a disintegration gun does seem pretty terrifying, just not very loud etc
True. Honestly I'm also curious why Zat's don't melt / disintegrate non-living material. I mean I know it's so they don't have to deal with that in-show (imagine having to change the set after every shot / have a explosive pad go off, would make reshoots a nightmare) but it seems weird that the weapon knows if the target is animate or inanimate.

>>3150826
>the staff weapons are more for prestige and ambush, and the Goa'uld are all about making their subjects fear them.
Yeah I know, I get that. My point is how is a staff weapon more terrifying than a weapon which can literally disintegrate a body? One of them is a gun that shoots fairly deadly orbs of heat, the other is a instant pacification-death-disintegration gun.

>They are also parasitic by nature, almost all of their tech is stolen and just bastardized to work for them
True but that doesn't mean they couldn't figure out how to put three firing assemblies of the things into the one weapon, cycle their activation and create a far faster firing version. It's not developing new tech, it's just copy-paste with a bit of thought.
>>
>>3150828
>My point is how is a staff weapon more terrifying than a weapon which can literally disintegrate a body?

Because if you think they are gods then death is just death, it's a gods weapon.
But staff weapons hurt, something that you will have to live with.
It's worse for a medieval society to care for a cripple or be a cripple than simply be dead.
In war it's also easier to have your allies die than see them wounded on the battlefield and be in need of helping them out.

Death is only worse than injury if you're naive
>>
>>3150831
I suppose but to be fair I'd argue that it is far more impressive to a uneducated man to see their strongest warriors literally disappear than seeing some corpses with extreme burns on them. Both are scary but one is even further beyond their frame of reference.

Also, I don't think you are going to survive the firepower of either of these weapons anywhere near frequently enough for cripples to be a concern. Especially whenever they wouldn't be cared for probably, as their entire society would be re-purposed to suit an alien master, meaning caring for the incapable becomes a low or non-existent priority.
>>
>>3150748
>>3150797
They're a bit silly, yes. Might just knock that shit down to 'two shots kills' for the future, to avoid issues.

>>3150801
>>3150805
>>3150826
Staff weapons are portrayed inconsistently as well. In the earlier seasons they could (sometimes) blow massive holes in stone and concrete walls with a single shot and shoot through both sides of armored jaffa at close range, having an effect more akin to a small cannon than the generic blaster they are in later seasons. Bra'tac also fires one like a machinegun in one episode, but it seemed to be significantly less powerful while doing so - I have no idea if it would be lethal since it never came up again. Definitely still just terror weapons but not useless. Lack of sights and their unwieldy bulk is what really cripples them, low rate of fire and slow projectile speed is the next biggest issue.

https://youtu.be/qnY0ojxufec?t=185
The aforementioned bra'tac machinegun.

>>3150828
They actually destroy some metal crates with zats in '1969' complicating the issue even further.

It's based around the halloween episode to my understanding (having never watched the show, though I did watch the film after reading the fic) wherein anyone in a costume became that character. The cast dressed up as 40K inquisitors, Cult of mars and so on. Long story short, shit happens and then it crosses over again, this time with (rather appropriately) Stargate SG-1.

Not with this little gem in the second paragraph:
>the Tollan have agreed to trade Stargate for Hyperdrive Technology
Uh, what? The Tollan already have hyperdrives. How else did they move their entire populace to a planet with no existing stargate in the first place? Narim only called the Nox for a lift because SGC didn't even have a Tel'tak at the time. Not to mention that the whole reason the Tollan weren't willing to give Earth any tech was because they gave tech to another 'primitive' species, only to end up losing their homeworld. They don't want to be burned again.
>>
>>3150881
I think the tollan were agreeing to give sg1 the hyperdrives in exchange for a stargate....

And thats chapter 12, not chapter 1.
>>
>>3150887
>I think the tollan were agreeing to give sg1 the hyperdrives in exchange for a stargate....
That makes even less sense. The Tollan know how to build a stargate and integrate it into the network, why would they ask Earth for one of their two gates? Also, that's still out of character for the Tollan.

Searching through this area of the complex is a simple if unpleasant task, the jaffa all having run off to join battle with the SG teams, but you still must be careful in these blood soaked chambers - It is not uncommon for traps to exist to deter thieves or escaping prisoners, and the guards could return at any moment. You don’t have much time until the sarcophagus finishes reviving Cooke, but you manage to scrounge up a few potentially useful devices in the meantime.

The healing device is still certainly the most useful item, but you’ve also found a rod of anguish, a handheld goa’uld maintenance tool, and a short range communicator. With them you find what remains of your equipment that was taken when your Sophie half was captured, along with your own P90 and sidearm. The tattered black plate carrier has seen better days, and smells of your own burnt flesh, but its attached pouches provide a good place to store all of these new items. You afix all the other various straps and pouches back on their normal locations, securing the drop holster and the M17 housed in it snugly on the right side of your leg, and put your helmet back on. None of your armor will stop a staff weapon blast, but dying from shrapnel or friendly fire would just be embarrassing.

You feel ready for action now, the weight of the plate carrier and helmet bothering you far less than they did before - Shanosh is already strengthening you, your healed limbs stronger than they’ve ever been before. As you finish adjusting the final bit of kit you hear the sarcophagus opening. Stone sliding across stone, an unmistakable noise.

Rushing into the room you find Cooke slowly exiting from the device, a bit dazed but already with gun in hand.

“...Lovelace?”, he asks half suspiciously, raising his handgun while rubbing at his eyes with his other hand to clear his vision. He hastily lowers the gun after getting a clearer look at you.

You nod, and move to help him get up and offer his P90 and radio back to him, “Come on Lieutenant, we need to rendezvous with the other teams. It sounds like a mess out there, Paul.”

He takes the gun and checks it with well practiced efficiency, “Right, lets go. You alright? Uniform looks like you got mauled by a damn angry blender.”

He looks at his own healed wounds a bit curiously as well, touching at them with his free hand gently, the burnt outlines and holes made by the blasts still clear on his uniform. The pair of you begin moving out of the chamber, checking the doorway careful to avoid running into a patrol.

“It was bit of a close call.”, you answer, choosing to wait a bit at least before you revealing your condition.

Moving through the prison complex you open doors as you go along, to the initial confusion of Cooke, and prisoners begins to stagger out as they’re realize they’re being freed. A few immediately begin securing weapons from fallen jaffa, some simply run, and still others return to their cell to hide. Cooke figures out your game quickly though, and is slightly amused but approving.

“Never took you for the sort of person that starts a prison riot, Lovelace.”, he chuckles, “Learn new things everyday I guess.”

“There’s no telling why Apophis captured these people, but they deserve a chance at freedom.”, you respond a bit more seriously, your recent torture dampening your humor with the situation.

“Absolutely. I’ll radio the other teams to warn them.”, he says, reaching to his to do so. The radio crackles slightly, the signal having trouble getting through whatever metal and stone the facility is made of, but you can hear the other SG teams communicating and the half caught sounds of battle. He waits a moment and then speaks, informing the others that you’re both alive, and receives orders to get to the stargate as soon as possible. You’ve got ten minutes before the teams pull back to earth completely, the rescue mission is going south fast and they have orders to leave.

It occurs to you briefly that neither of you have a GDO. You Shanosh half finds the device curious, but further investigation is cut off again - The iris code is kept from it still.

You continue traversing the facility, following the signs of battle to locate an exit, the sound of even more chaotic fighting filling the hallways, but before you go further with this plan you need to decide how to contact the jaffa with your goa’uld communicator.

Well, in either case you offered there is still a lot of backstory you as the QM has to fill, so originally I planned to let it be somewhat vague as well so you can still form whatever you need around it

In s05e15 Summit - the Tok'Ra (Jackob/Selmac) say that Goa'uld population being stagnant and they don't know why
In s05e16 Last Stand - Daniel who went undercover at the Goa'uld summit witnesses them to be eating their own larvae

While we don't know exactly how Goa'uld reproduction works
What we do can argue about queens is:
>They can actually choose what memories and intel they give their offspring
in s06e10 Cure the queen intentionally spawns only stupid babies, therefore we can also argue that...
>Queens can't really opt out of producing babies
otherwise she just wouldn't have, because she also opted for suicide first chance she got.

My suggestion is that they keep a disgraced Queen around who is in a similar situation, but she did bestow an immense hatred for the System Lords into her children should they somehow escape.
After getting out we sought to sabotage them by ourselves, and allying with the Tau'ri would be immensely favorable at the moment.

You signal Cooke to halt for a moment, the two of you taking up protected positions behind support pillars in a hallway. Other than some corpses the area is clear, annoyingly looking similar to most of the others in the facility - Goa’uld aren’t exactly imaginative when it comes to interior design.

“I found what I think is a communicator back in those chambers, Lieutenant.”, you explain, showing him the sleek almost organic looking purple and blue device.

From Cooke’s expression you can tell he understands your intentions immediately, needing no further explanation, “Running a bit of interference? I’ll keep you covered.”

You give him a smirk and set about the work, taking a few moments to check over some of the communication channels. It doesn’t sound like there are any ships in orbit, and a plan begins to form in your shared mind. Hopefully the facility’s internal security systems are in chaos right now and there are no orbital scanners or this may not work. Sophie speaks on the channel the jaffa commanders are using, with some guidance from Shanosh.

You do you best impression of a scared slave woman, accenting your voice perhaps a bit too much, “The prisoners are escaping! Jaffa of Cronus have entered on rings from the heavens!”

“What absurdity is this? Who gave you a communication device, woman?”, one of the commanders responds obviously furious.

Keeping the ruse going you carry on, “The guards have been slain, I was ordered to warn you! They’re coming!”

You pick up a staff weapon from a corpse on the hallway floor and fire it a few times, faking a scream over the device before cutting your signal off. The jaffa commander doesn’t seem to buy it, commanding the other leaders to switch their communicator channel and not listen to a traitorous lying slave. Shit.

Cooke shakes his head and shrugs slightly, giving you a ‘at least you tried’ sort of look.

“We’re on the clock here, Lovelace, let’s move it!”, he says, maneuvering out of cover and continuing down the hallway. He waves for you to follow, and you accompany him closely but spaced off to his left a few paces.

You’re getting closer to where the active battle is still ongoing, passing through a larger chamber filled with explosion craters and a destroyed staff cannon, and finally arriving at an exit from the facility. Peering around this final corner you spot four jaffa near the large triangular sliding double door of the exit, probably left guarding the door to ensure the prisoners can’t fully escape in this direction. You recognize one of them, the older jaffa you ordered to join the battle earlier. The door is half open, one side blown inward by what was probably C4.
>>
>>3151201
You’re down to six and a half minutes, and the gate is about two minutes away if you sprint, just beyond a small stony ridge outside and a patch of forest. You can’t see much of the outside, the details of the battle unclear.

Staying quiet you tell Cooke your plan with hand signals, which he agrees to. The two of you get ready, you crouch low and prepare to barely lean around the corner while Cooke will stand and peak out above you a bit further back - From the jaffa’s perspective they’ll just see half of some faces, the muzzle end of your P90s and bits of your arms.

You attack first, firing a short burst at the older jaffa on the right and catching him in the left leg with a round. Shooting isn’t really a strong suit of yours, most of the rounds impacting the metal wall behind him despite the short range. He begins clumsily dropping to a knee, yelling out in pain, but your second burst is already on its way to his ally. A bit better luck this time, a pair of rounds zipping through his neck and face - As dead as he can get. The older jaffa fires a blast from his staff, but it is badly off target and impacts well away from you scorching one of the walls.

Cooke makes his kills more cleanly, showing his skill as a special forces operator, taking out the two jaffa on the left with a single slightly longer string of fire - He walks it across their stomachs, and judging by their cries and immediate crumpling to the floor their symbiotes must have been struck. A very painful injury for a jaffa, and a sure death.

A few more bursts see the injured off without issue, and you advance to the exit while Cooke follows up behind watching the rear. You both reload as you assess the situation outside, seeing groups of jaffa running about between fallen stone pillars and boulders for cover further out - On the small ridge about a hundred and fifty meters away you can see the vague silhouettes and muzzle flashes of the other SG teams. The green tops of pine trees that poke up just barely behind the ridge make it hard to keep track of the soldiers, when they re-position it is easy to lose sight of them among all the other dark and green hues.

The cacophony of the battle is tremendous, smoke and fire from staff blasts and explosives obscures many areas of the combat. A large explosion rips a team of Jaffa apart, limbs and shattered bodies launched like shrapnel through the area, the work of a recoilless rifle HE round. The smell of gun smoke and ozone hangs thick in the air, sharp distinct scents. Transportation rings are bringing more jaffa and a staff cannon in near several intact pillars about forty meters away to the left - From a ship you missed perhaps? Another part of the facility?

You exchange a glance with Cooke, the two of you keeping to the cover of the opposite interior sides of the exit door, and discuss your options.

“Smoke for concealment and go around the right flank, bounding fire up to the ridge line?”, you suggest, holding close to the doorway.

Cooke nods, readying his final smoke grenade, “You’re getting a lot better at this, Lovelace.”

“Can’t say I’m enjoying it currently, Lieutenant.”, you respond, preparing yourself for the mad dash and gun battle.

Cooke observes the drift of the smoke already on the battlefield, getting a feel for the wind and eyeing up a target for the grenade, and throws it - He has a good arm, it lands more or less where he intended and begins to sputter out a thick billowing cloud of white smoke. You wait a few seconds, letting it build up a little, and then run out first toward a boulder off to the right.

Some jaffa in the battle have noticed the smoke and your movement as you dart toward the cover, but the obscuring cloud and your fast pace keep their staff blasts from hitting home - They’re almost firing blind into the smoke, and most are still engaging the SG teams on the ridge.

Cooke covers you as you run, suppressing the closest group of jaffa and killing one, right up until you get into cover. He then moves forward as you cover his advance, pinning jaffa with a few bursts as they rush in through the smoke cloud. You continue this dance of fire and maneuver, only slowing briefly to reload, felling three jaffa and pinning many more as you cut a path through the right flank. You’re running faster than you ever could have before, a mix of Shanosh’s power and adrenaline, feet kicking up bits of loose stone and dirt as you cross the patchy grass toward the ridge.

Cooke takes down several more enemies but has a close call as one that was prone leaps up from behind a fallen pillar and almost hits him with a staff blast at very close range - He manages to dodge and drop out of the line of fire of the staff, shooting upward from the ground into the warrior’s chest and riddling him with sparking hits as his armor fails to stop the bullets.
>>
>>3151547
Soon enough you’ve both reached the ridge, clambering up its stoney surface, bits of gravel knocked down the slope as you struggle to move up it quickly. Staff blasts, and a hit from the staff cannon, impact around you throwing rocks at dangerous speed - You feel a strong thump against your helmet on the right side but press on. Sliding into cover on the other side of the ridge you’re greeted by Captain Wilkinson of SG3, his left cheek badly burned from what must have been a near miss by a jaffa. He’s reloading an LSAT currently.

“Glad to see you’re both in one piece!”, he shouts a bit too loudly, obviously having been on the firing line for a while now.

“Wouldn’t be if it wasn’t for Lovelace here, sir!”, Cooke responds equally loudly, slapping you on the shoulder, “She pulled my ass out of that hellhole somehow - How are we doing out here, Captain?”

Wilkinson checks the time quickly on his watch before responding, “We’ve got a little under six minutes to get back to the gate, we’re holding while the casualties are evacuated!”

“How many are we down, sir?”, you ask, trying to raise your voice to match theirs - It really is necessary, the din of the gunfire too much to speak even close to normally in.

“SG6 is out of action, got torn up going inside with SG4! I guess you’d know that though, wouldn’t you?”, the Captain yells, finishing reloading.

“How many KIA?”, Cooke shouts for clarification.

“Just two! Both of you get back to the gate, we’ll handle this.”, Wilkinson responds, shouldering his machinegun and moving a few yards over and then back up to the top of the ridge, letting off three long spaced bursts. A bit further away you can see one of the other SG3 members getting his recoilless rifle ready for another shot, probably looking to take out that staff cannon the rings brought it.

A pair of death gliders are visible in the blue of the daytime sky, descending like eagles with their dark forms clear against banks of white and grey clouds. Along the ridge several soldiers call out the new contacts, but there is little they can do about them for now.

The two of you begin moving into the forest, getting some better concealment from the incoming attack craft, shouting as you do so.

“We have to do something about those gliders, Cooke!”, you call out, staggering as you almost trip over some roots jutting from the darker forest floor.

Reaching the relative protection of a large pine tree you stop, taking cover so that it is angled between you and the gliders. They’re making their first strafing run now, twin staff cannons firing inaccurately at the ridge and sending up plumes of smoke and shrapnel when they impact - The first pass seems to have done little thankfully.

“Any bright ideas?”, he asks, crouched lower to make himself a smaller target to the craft as they circle about over head for another attack - Brief glimpses of their crescent wings visible through the branches above you.

You look around, thinking for a moment, and remember the robotic mule your team brought through earlier - It was hit by a zat near here when the jaffa first ambushed your team, and had a MANPAD in a case on it.

“There’s a stinger just over there.”, you say, point to some brush a bit away from your current position.

Cooke squints at you, then the brush, simply saying “...I like where this is going.”

“It was on our mule, unless they dragged it off it should still be there.”, you explain hurriedly, moving toward the area, pushing through some bushes that are in the way.

Sure enough the broken mule is still there, a few signs of the UGV being dragged about by jaffa earlier but obviously they gave up, and the MANPAD is still in its long black plastic case. You take if out, Cooke helping to get the launcher ready for action in a multistep process, and move back out to the ridge to get a clearer sight line.

“You do know how to use that, right Lovelace?”, Cooke asks as you line up the first glider in your sights and get a lock.

“It was in the familiarization course.”, you answer honestly, probably not giving him the answer he hoped for.

“Oh for fucks sa-”, he begins, cut off as you fire.

The gliders are coming in again now, spaced only a dozen meters apart or so, staff cannons flashing as they fire toward you. The missile streaks toward them, their speed on the strafing run too slow to even try to avoid it, and closest on the left side is struck. Its wing spews flame from a massive gash in the hull as it spins out of control, crashing into the ridge in an enormous fireball. The remaining glider keeps firing, pulling away at the last moment as you dive for cover, and you hurry back to your feet to get ready for its next pass.

You repeat the trick with the second one after Cooke helps you reload quickly, the pilot of the glider too brave or stupid to pull away, the missile impacting the cockpit directly. In truth the seeker heads on the missiles did all the real work, the gliders very easy targets at these low strafing run speeds.

You continue on through the underbrush of the forest, moving in the dim shadows of the trees that tower above, Cooke staying close alongside. Delaying heading to the gate further seems like a bad idea, time running out as it is - Shooting down those death gliders took a couple of minutes, leaving you with a very rapidly shrinking window. You can already hear the rest of the SG teams heading back, the rattle of gunfire slowing as even the rear guard is moving now.

It doesn’t take long to reach the gate, the pair of you running as fast as you safely can through the forest while taking care to not twist an ankle on the ground clutter. Eventually you reach the large meadow the gate resides in the center of, the device shimmering with the blue event horizon of an active wormhole. More soldiers are guarding the DHD, and a defensive perimeter is being kept a decent distance from the gate itself. You’re waved in by the soldiers as you both exit the trees, increasing from a careful run to a sprint now that you’re in the clear.

By the time you get to the perimeter guards the other SG teams are exiting the forest behind you, a few staff blasts flying out past them as they do so - The jaffa aren’t far behind. The teams are engaging them as they move toward the gate, timing their movements so somebody is always firing, but it is clear there are too many jaffa to be suppressed that easily.

The teams guarding the gate tense, getting ready to fire as sight lines become clearer, and you...

You decide to help cover the others until most everyone is through the gate, not wanting to let down your comrades that have risked so much to rescue you and your team - At least you hope your team is fine, you haven’t seen them.

Lacking any real barriers to hide behind you drop to a low kneeling firing position, the grass in the meadow too tall to see anything if you went fully prone, and begin sighting in on jaffa moving between trees over in the forest - It is hard to make out their outline in the shadows, but the flashes of their staff weapons give groups of them away as they rush on in pursuit of the retreating SG teams.

Cooke takes up position a few meters to your right, already firing bursts at the armor clad warriors chasing your allies. You fire just a moment later, finally getting a clear shot on a jaffa, and he drops immediately from what was likely a headshot. Unsure if it was yours or somebody else's, and not caring much either way, you sight in on the first group of jaffa exiting the concealment of the forest. The red dot of your reflex sight is clearly visible on the lead jaffa’s chest as you peer through the optic, squeezing the trigger…

And for a moment nothing happens, your aim shifting ever so slightly off target before the gun fires. A small hang fire, but unfortunate nonetheless. Regardless the jaffa are torn into by a burst of machinegun fire from somebody else on the perimeter, their armor briefly looking to be covered in dancing sparks as they take dozens of hits. They’re dealt with, that’s all that matters. Staff weapon fire is increasing in frequency now, the aim of the shots still terrible though as most of the jaffa are firing on the move.

The remaining teams are going through the gate now, the distinct sound of entry into the event horizon clear even in the battle, and you begin to get up and move toward it yourself. Everybody is falling back, firing as they move, and you manage to snag another jaffa in the chest with a few rounds.

You enter the gate backwards, firing all the way, Cooke doing the same along with two other soldiers - The last four through. The feeling of entering the wormhole and transporting across the galaxy is intense but familiar to both halves of your being.

So, what exactly are you going to do in a few seconds when you show up in the gate room?

Phasing into existence while walking backwards is a bit disorienting, but you managed to keep your footing alongside the other soldiers as you all appear in the gate room. Moving away from the gate quickly you spin and head down the metal ramp.

“Close the iris, we’re all through!”, Cooke yells up to the staff in the control room, and you can see them working quickly to do so through the armored glass panes that separate the two areas.

The titanium iris closes and interlocks behind over the gate, sealing it from further travel - A few tense moments pass as everyone watches it, waiting for the wormhole behind it to destabilize and collapse. There are several loud thumps as the iris is impacted by incoming travelers, jaffa trying to cross through after you did, just before the wormhole cuts out.

Situation resolved the feeling of tension in the air settles, people getting back to their various jobs. Medical teams are moving the wounded out of the gate room, SG teams disorganized in the fighting meeting back up with their other members - Medical checks will come next, and you know Shanosh won’t escape detection in them.

Over the gate room intercom you can hear the confident voice of General Hammond, “All incoming SG teams report for debriefing at 0900.”

Making the choice to not conceal anything further you place your weapons and captured goa’uld equipment on the floor of the gate room, getting some very off looks from the guards and other staff, and turn to Captain Wilkinson.

“Sir, I need to be taken to an isolation cell immediately.”, you tell him with clear concern.

“What the hell for, doctor?”, he asks puzzled, a member of the medical staff already fussing over and trying to inspect his burn wound.

“It’s best if I explain it once I’m secured in a cell, sir.”, you answer, at about the point the medical staff reach you and begin inspecting your ‘wounds’.

“Not your blood, I take it?”, the medic asks, looking at your uniformed absolutely covered in the stuff - Dried to a motley patchwork of dark stains now, no longer really red.

“It’s all mine.”, you answer him simply, at which point both he and Wilkinson realize something really has to be wrong. The clear burn mark from a staff weapon wound and all the rips and blood stains on the uniform making it obvious now that things have slowed down just how strange your situation is.

Wilkinson barks some orders to the security personnel nearby and you’re searched and taken prisoner, taken out of the gate room without a confrontation. Cooke had already headed off to medical to see the rest of his team and sees none of this, but he’ll surely find out soon.

35 years old, married, 7yo daughter
Irish decent, grandparents immigrated some time after the second world war
red hair, pale-ish skin, 5'9.5"
full beard he has had "before the hipsters had it" which is an irony that needed pointing out to him.
He goes about his work very neat and clean
He was a smoker but only had concrete reason to stop since joining the stargate program, because he can absolutely not bring that habit to an alien world.
He's conflicted about spending so much time at work and little at home with his family, because one means a lot to him and the other just blows his mind and will mean a lot to the world at large.
He was raised catholic but is theistic agnostic, meaning he believes in God, but thinks everyone has to find their own way in life and that science is a good way of explaining the world that god has created for humans.
That the galaxy is completely filled with humans is just further proof for a human-centric universe at large, but Sophie never wanted to argue these points with him.

It’s Kenny, your team’s anthropologist, a worried look on his face as he sees you being escorted by the guards. He’s the reason you aren’t dead, even if it came quite close anyways, having caught onto the ambush and warned the team a few moments before fighting broke out - Just long enough to start diving to cover, meaning the staff blast you suffered caught you in the side rather than dead center.

He’s fairly torn up looking himself, his left arm bandaged up and in a sling alongside a few other injuries, but at least he can walk. He moves over to you as the guards keep you walking along at a quick pace through the concrete hallway to the nearest elevator.

“What’s going on here, Sophie?”, he asks in a rush before turning to the guards, “Where are you taking her?”

“I asked to be taken to a cell, Kenny. It’s for our own good.”, you answer first, trying to give him a reassuring look - It comes off more as worried.

“She asked, and we’ve got orders from captain Wilkinson.”, the guard offers out gruffly, continuing the quick pace.

“Wilkinson? What about general Hamm-”, Kenny begins again before you cut him off.

You don’t want him starting a scene over this and interject, “He was just the closest officer, I’m sure Hammond knows by now.”

Kenny can walk but this faster pace is clearly uncomfortable for him, wincing a bit before he questions further, “Sophie, what the hell happened to make you ask for a cell?”

“I’ll explain once I’m in the cell. Did the others make it?”, you answer while changing subjects quickly - Finding out if your friends are okay is priority one now.

“They’re all in the infirmary but stable.”, he responds as you’re moved into the elevator by the guards, “Sophie…. They said you were dead.”

“I almost was, it’s complicated.”, you state honestly as the doors shut. He can’t accompany you due to security protocols, and he had enough sense to not even try. The elevator shakes a bit as it starts up, being a fairly old machine, but you arrive on level sixteen fairly quickly. The steel doors of the elevator open and you’re guided down a few reinforced hallways to the stockade.

The cell you’re placed in is separate from the others, within its own secure room further beyond the first few cells, and should be a secure place to be kept until you figure out what the hell to do about all of this. It’s a spacious chamber for a single prisoner, enough room to pace about in without issue, but outside of essentials such as a cot, mirror, toilet, and sink, it is as barren as a room could be.

The artificial lighting in the room is dim, and your uniform uncomfortable from all the staining and rips, but you’re not getting tortured or dodging staff blasts anymore - An improvement. Sitting on the metal cot at the back of the room and staring at the old concrete floor you have some time to think, alone outside of the guard standing beyond the cell door.

>Just wait for people to arrive and prepare to try and explain things. [Mutual]

We are alone in the territory of our enemies' enemies. Making an ally of our host is paramount.
Sharing technology is good.
Offering to show her everything we know about the healing device and suggesting that we heal them to her is better.
She clearly values science,Zero but friends more. Perhaps we can convince her that we value primitive lives as well. If we can't convince her of that much, perhaps we can at least sell her that we value the lives of those who fight our enemies.
You know, lie. But lie with conviction.

Ok, other plan

Access her memory a bit
The Tau'ri value the individual to an almost stupid degree. Even their great legends were about saving one life even if their whole society would collapse (Infinity war)
Fools that they are they would not simply let us have her in exchange for our knowledge.
Even if you convince your host to keep you, they will still think you simply speak for her.
So... somehow all of the above.
Ask Sophia what she thinks will happen, but don't share any knowledge yet, it IS leverage.

They will ask us to leave her, which we would agree to if they give us another host, which they wont.
We want to live, and if they want to kill us, they can, but we will take Sophie down with us just to spite them.
But even just saying that will antagonize them further.
Voice those concerns to Sophie, she knows them better to know how we should behave.

You stand up from the cot and shed blood soaked jacket you’ve been wearing, getting a little more comfortable since your Sophie half expect you’ll be in here for quite some time. Moving over to the mirror and sink, washing some of the dried blood from your face, you get better look at your shared body.

>Choose appearance.

How did things get to this point, for either of you? The thought circulates through your shared mind, bits of memories rising from both halves in answer but none with a truly satisfactory explanation. Trying to work through it consciously your two sides engage in thought, urged by Sophie.

“You’re obviously not a normal symbiote, Shanosh, and I need some answers - Solid facts, not half concealed memories. Why haven’t you fully taken over my body by now?”

The half of you that your thoughts originate from is clear but they still somehow run together in your shared mind, where one ends and the next begins hard to differentiate as you converse mentally.

‘I have no interest in enslaving my hosts, and would like to apologize for the manner in which we bonded. It was a unique emergency.’, Shanosh begins to explain, ‘Sharing the experiences of life voluntarily with another has given me valuable insight, and I considered my previous host a friend.’

A feeling of skepticism flows through your shared body, chilling as it passes, “...You jumped into my mouth, Shanosh. I’m having a hard time imagining anybody volunteering for that.”

‘My very first host did not, I was too young to understand my actions fully then, and I regret those years. Bakari accepted me willingly though, he was my companion for many years, a research partner in my studies.’, an empty melancholy replacing the chill as Shanosh remembers those times. The memories are shared, feeling too painful to express with clumsy speech directly felt by both halves.

“You’re a goa’uld scientist then? Is that why you were being tortured?”

‘I have explored many worlds and technologies with my past hosts, but the system lords have always harried our existence - Their paranoia and desire for control is immense. Apophis had us imprisoned as a potential spy or assassin, not understanding our nature.’

“He’s a real bastard, isn’t he?”

Shanosh processes the unusual expression for a moment, but understands the intended meaning quickly.

‘He is.’

>”Do you have the genetic memory the other goa’uld do?” [Sophie]
>’Will you accept my continued presence within you? I will try to find another host if you do not.’ [Shanosh]

Your communication is speeding up, becoming more natural, reaching a level closer to personal thought than audible speech. Continuing to stare into the mirror it almost feels as if your reflection is one half of the conversation.

“So how were you captured? We had been under the impression the base was abandoned.”

‘It was until very recently, we were displaced from our previous prison due to conflict with another system lord.’

“In just the last week?”

‘I believe so, though I was conscious for very little of the travel. The torture was… intense, it was hard to track time.’

“That would explain the jaffa, and the reinforcements arriving the way they did. You didn’t answer my question though, how were you captured?”

‘Bakari and I have been forced to work for Apophis for the last two years, we were caught by jaffa while exploring another world. We repaired technology for him, offering a service few could to survive, and in secret tinkered with his devices too discern ways to improve them while we tried to find a way to escape.’

“I take it your were discovered while testing these new modifications and he wasn’t pleased?”

‘An understatement. I tried to explain to him the value of finding a way to improve the sarcophagus, to try to eliminate its long term side effects, but it only angered him further. The torture began after that. Why were you investigating the base?’

“...We were told the facility was abandoned, and that we could study it safely.”

‘You are concealing information. Why?’

“It came from a sensitive source.”

‘The former first prime of Apophis?’

“...Yes.”

‘He did a brave thing, rebelling as he has.’

“So you’ve met him before I take it?”, she thinks a bit hopefully, “We might be able to use that.”

‘Only in passing. What did he tell you of the base?’, you respond, your shared body now pacing about the cell as you think. Pacing has always helped Sophie contemplate troubling issues, it has a calming effect on her.

“That it had been hidden and abandoned since the days of his master, and that valuable supplies were kept there for emergencies.”, Sophie explains while sharing the memory of it, ”We were hoping to study some of it on site, learn more about their power sources and computer systems…”

‘Your people’s primitive understanding of technology would make that very difficult.’

“I think you’d be surprised what we can figure out given time, Shanosh.”

‘Perhaps. You were ambushed when you arrived?’

“A bit after, in the woods beyond the gate. They were already in position and camouflaged.”

Images flash before you, the blasts of staff weapons from concealed positions and the return fire and muzzle flashes of tau’ri firearms. It is all chaotic and blurred, the feeling of pain from Sophie’s wounds clear even in recollection, as is her failed attempt to throw a crude a explosive device. A ‘fragmentation grenade’, a small bomb which kills with shrapnel, but in this case not thrown a fully safe distance. Some of her wounds came from that device but the blast still took a jaffa with it, her other injuries caused by a tree splintering violently from repeated staff weapon hits. It is only dark after that, her next memory one of awakening almost dead in the room of corpses.

‘They must have feared an enemy using the gate, Cronus perhaps. They are often in conflict.’

“Wouldn’t they guard the gate itself then, or bury it until they need to use it?”, she thinks, clearly puzzled by the poor tactical sense of the goa’uld.

‘We were brought through the gate, I can only assume more prisoners were to arrive regularly. Without a covering the gate is not easily defensible, a single tok’kal could neutralize the guards if they stood close by.’

“A tok’kal?...”

‘A stunning device.’

“Oh. Does it work like a… zat’nik’tel, I think you called it?”

‘No.’, you answer, sharing your knowledge and unfortunate first hand experience with a tok’kal - The blinding flash still clear in your mind’s eye all these years later.

“We have similar weapons, flash bangs.”

‘Flash... bangs? They work as the name implies?’

“Not a very creative name, is it?”

‘The use is clear, it is efficiently named.’

>You wouldn't actually hiss physically, not even sure if goa'uld can.
Too bad, it would be funny to scare the crap out of someone.
>>
>>3154656
Yes, and you go up into the brain as well. Goa'uld are capable of exiting of their own free will but it is somewhat dangerous for the symbiote (At least going off of what Jolinar says in season two). Forced removal from a host is generally lethal to both host and symbiote without advanced technology.
>>
>>3154656
That's pretty much it yeah, trying to remove a Goa'uld by force is extremely risky and usually leads to death of both the Goa'uld and the host. IIRC we are wrapped around the spine and partially inside the brain, although I might be wrong on that last bit
>>
Sensing a commonality between you going beyond the normal melding of host and symbiote, Shanosh poses a question. You are still pacing, barely paying attention to the world outside of your thoughts.

‘You are a student of knowledge from what I gather, yes?’

“I’m a scientist and explorer, not all that different from how you’ve described yourself actually.”

‘That is your chosen role among the tau’ri? You have a keener intellect than Bakari but the curiosity I feel from you is familiar.’

“I love my work, dreamed of doing something like this since I was a kid. Well, maybe not quite like this specifically but you understand, right?”, she asks, her mind indicating her current unfortunate circumstances.

‘I do. I have felt the same since I first grew.’

“So your last… host,”, her thoughts linger uncomfortably on the word, “this bakari, wasn’t very, uhm, capable?”

‘He was a slave before we met, I tried my best to instruct him but his aptitude was limited. He was not a friend out of reasons of utility, it was his character I admired. He did learn some in our time but a real grasp of the work beyond my own memories always eluded him.’

The thoughts of Bakari and the years you spent with him flash before you, but with less sadness than before. They were often joyful times, the thrill of exploration and discovering new and strange technologies enough to keep you carrying on even when hunted.

“For decades?”

‘A very limited aptitude. He was kind.’

“...I get the picture, I have similar friends.”

>’Will you accept my continued presence within you? I will try to find another host if you do not.’ [Shanosh]

I'm a little too busy to join in the quest in general but I'm at least trying to catch up. Great job so far, I'd be participating if I had slightly more time.

I have noticed a slight but probably obscure mistake that I'm sure can be explained later. The Goa'uld don't actually understand how any of "their" tech works. They just looted random shit they found laying around and figured out what buttons to press. It's part of why they get their asses kicked so often by any alien race that actually knows enough about science to try and understand anything they see.

Eg. The personal force fields stop bullets, staff weapons, etc because they work on anything fast moving or that's an energy weapon. They then noticed that the jaffa could toss weapons to their lord without setting the force field off. So SGC figured out to just chuck a knife because it wouldn't go fast enough to be stopped. It could easily have been a rock.

I think it's a bit soon to ask her to essentially commit to being life long companions. Maybe after the interrogation. Although I like that she's getting to know us more and coming to understand who we are
>>
>>3154720
They actually do understand quite a bit of it, having reverse engineered most of it from ancient tech or other alien races. You need a pretty good knowledge base for that but because the goa'uld pass on genetic memory and have huge lifespans the whole "philosophy of science" thing seems to be very uncommon and knowledge isn't shared due to paranoia. Couple that with being naturally parasitic and crazy from sarcophagus use, using what already exists and not wanting to change from using weapons of fear if they work well enough, and you get a technologically very stagnant race.

Goa'uld invent a number of things during the run of the show, usually one off gimmick plot devices or weapons, and actively try to reverse engineer new stuff they find if it passes their arbitrary qualifiers to be seen as 'advanced'.

Basically the writing was inconsistent and you have to just ignore bits at some points to reconcile it, like with most long running shows.

Eh, I understand the logic of the government (they can't be seen to endorse this so they've got to act against it or risk it coming back to bite them) but I've never cared for treating terrorists well in combat or capture. At least those who fight for something as foolish and wide-in-interpretation as religion.

>i wonder what sophie is going to get for the use of necromancy on cooke.
Probably either a commendation or nothing. They can't act against her for saving a person's life (at least without pissing off a lot of people) but they might not like the possibility of one of their soldiers being a bit more unhinged than before.

single use of sarcophagus is not that dangerous.
And we are a researcher who wanted to fix that.

I think we should define our specialties, I know movie scientists can do anything, but maybe we should be more specialized. Shanosh fended for himself and did whatever he wanted and has genetic memory, so it can be very general.
But Sophie is human
>>
>>3155064
>I think we should define our specialities, I know movie scientists can do anything, but maybe we should be more specialised.
That is mostly because it is convenient for the plot and keeps the number of characters low. Also it makes your smart-guy look even smarter if he can do anything that involves a calculation with more letters than a hexadecimal number.

In regards to what would be useful, either weapons (high energy systems for plasma, lasers, etc or something similar), ship technology (reactors, shields, etc) or bio-tech.

It is difficult to track time within the cell without a clock, the vague sense of it you had before already gone due to the deep contemplation you’ve been engrossed within as your two halves communicate, and it seems likely that people will begin arriving to ask questions soon.

“So what are we going to do when they come to question us? This all looks pretty bad.”

‘We will tell them the truth.’

“Of course we will, that isn’t what I meant though. How do we convince them we’re not a threat and can stay in the program?”

The feelings of worry for her friends, and of potential missed opportunity for study, are palpable from Sophie. This ‘stargate program’ seems to be very important to her, her curiosity difficult to satiate.

‘You trust me?’

“I’m beginning to, and I definitely don’t think you’re an enemy. It wouldn't make sense. You’ve had too many chances to try to take control or information and haven’t. If you had hostile intent you should have acted by now.’

‘Will they not see it the same way if we are truthful then? I aided in saving your people and did not interfere in protecting the chappa’ai as they fled. Going through last was a great risk to myself.’

“A lot of them won’t see it that way, we’ve had very bad run ins with the goa’uld up until now. Never anything good from it, just violence or worse. They won’t believe I’m in control when I want to be... I know I wouldn’t believe it.”

‘I understand. That is not an uncommon issue or concern, few have pleasant experiences with the goa’uld. Do your people possess memory recall devices?’

“...No, but I think I see where you’re going with that. We can monitor the brain activity of host and symbiote separately, and still have the data from Kowalsky’s… incident to compare to. That could work.”

She had no direct memories of this incident but Shanosh can imply its nature easily.

‘One of you people has been taken? I am sorry to hear that.’

“Yeah. It was before I finished my weapons training, I wasn’t here at the time but they made us all read the report. They’ll probably think it’s the same with me at first, that you’re just using me to lie. If we can prove to them I’m in control when I want to be then it will go a long way.”

‘Your people took in others that oppose Apophis, have they not? The former first prime accompanies your warriors into battle from rumors I heard.”

“He does, and the precedent might help, but it wasn’t exactly easy for him to stay. It still causes issues. We’ll have the same people coming after us, trying to draw us off to god only knows where. They’ll want to question us for days either way, weeks even.”

Shanosh halts for a moment, thoughts frozen and lingering on a single point.

‘You believe in a god?’

“Uhm, no, no, it’s just an expression my people use.”
>>
>>3155067
Given the long life and genetic memories of the goa’uld, I feel like it would be more understandable in our case to be a "scientist of just about everything". Are you completely missing his point? We're talking about what specialties our goa'uld scientist might have. As discussed they obviously don't go about learning shit in school, but there are a few scientists within the race that experiment and learn about the technologies they use etc. One would assume that given enough time, they'd become well versed enough to have what a human might consider a specialty in the subject...

Yeah I mean us, as to what she'd probably have, that is basically impossible to tell. The range of requirements for this field are too varied to easily fit.

Realistically you'd be looking for the people who are in the military to get their degrees and shit, so you're recruiting combat-experienced individuals without any extra time spent training, but the sorts of degrees you'd need for field-science like this are a mix of archeology, linguistics and so on for low tech civilisations. For high tech it becomes essentially impossible because then you need to identify the electronics and mechanics of complex machines along with potentially the coding they run on.
>>
>>3155096
Nah, just gotta identify which glowing crystals and pieces of plastic to pull out of sockets and move around a bunch. If you complain about others rushing your work you get a bonus to effectiveness.

On a more serious note the SGC picked up lots of civilians and just game them some combat training in the show (or not), whether it was a good idea or not.
>>

TV science man, it is quite annoying.

>whether it was a good idea or not.
Literally the worst idea ever. For something like this even recruiting only from special forces with two degrees might not be selective enough. You are essentially trying to create a combat team that can also function for first contact, technological capture and half-a-dozen other duties. Civilians are a break-risk at least until they've been blooded.

‘We have never spoken more than ten words to one another but the first prime might recall my identity. He could vindicate my claims.’

“I was thinking of something similar, people trust him. They’re not the people I think we’ll be having problems with either way but it’s something. Why don’t you use his name?”

‘I am used to thinking of him by his position alone. He was far above me in importance, to use a name would imply equal rank or permission. It became habit to refer to people by titles, we servants spoke among ourselves often of the goings on in the court but knew few figures personally.’

“That all sounds feudal almost, like something from centuries ago.”

‘It is a feudal empire. Did you people rule themselves similarly so recently?’

“...Recently? Uh, yeah, I suppose we did. I’m not really a great person to discuss history with though, it isn’t my field at all.”

‘You do not know of your own history?’

“Well I’m not clueless about it but compared to others around here… No, I really don’t. I’ve picked up quite a bit from Kenny, and have some books I still need to read that he gave me...”

‘I understand. You’re young, these things come with time.’

Your thoughts are interrupted as the door to the larger room the cell is within opens, several officers walking inside escorted by guards. A bandage-faced captain Wilkinson, a confused looking lieutenant Cooke, General Hammond, and several other officers Sophie only vaguely recognizes - Interrogators of some kind, more than likely. From their body language you can tell they’ve clued in that something deeply troubling has occurred, though it doesn’t take a genius to figure that out.

Kenny follows in at the back of the group and one of the guards closes door to the larger room, giving the group some privacy to speak with you from beyond the bars of your cell. General Hammond steps forward toward the cell, getting a bit closer to be able to speak at a comfortable volume.

“Alright doctor, just what exactly was so important that you asked to be taken into a detention cell?”, he asks, his expression one of well restrained concern.

Halting your pacing you look up to them all, your eyes flashing a bright yellow as naquada flows within, and Shanosh responds in your deeper goa’uld voice, “Greetings, general. I am Shanosh, sharing the body of Sophie Lovelace. I do not wish to conceal myself from your people further.”

Hammond taks a slight step back a little surprised but not too badly shaken, the other men handling the revelation with various mixtures of expletives or in Wilkinsons case the half attempt to unholster his sidearm. Kenny stops him, chastising him and asking if he planned to kill Sophie, and Wilkinson quickly realizes the foolishness of his action and fully reholsters the gun - You’re behind bars and unarmed, there’s no need for a gun to be trained on you.

You blink slightly, Sophie taking the reins for a moment and speaking in her normal voice, “It’s alright General, I’m still in here - It’s a complicated situation but we can explain it.”

“I’ll say it is, what in the hell happened to you doctor?”, he responds incredulously, voice raising in volume but not too greatly as the commotion from the men behind him settles somewhat.

“I was badly injured sir, left for dead by jaffa, and a goa’uld entered m-.”

Wilkinson growls out an angry response before you can finish your long explanation, “We’d gathered as much, you lying snake - We know that isn’t Sophie talking, you think we’re that dumb?”

“Let it speak, captain.”, Hammond orders, not sounds much happier than Wilkinson does.

“Sir, you don’t actually buy that horses-”, Wilkinson begins again.

“That was an order, captain. I don’t believe it anymore than you do, but we’ll hear it out for now.”, he responds sharply.

“Thank you, sir.”, Sophie says quickly before anybody else tries to interject, “The goa’uld, Shanosh, was close to death as well. They’d tortured its previous host until he died, and threw the body in the same room I was in - I went to check on it and that was when it… entered.”

“What, through your neck?”, Cooke asks, rubbing the back of his a bit uncomfortably.
>>
>>3155740
You shudder a bit remembering it from both perspectives, “...No. The mouth. Shanosh stopped my bleeding, and helped me bluff past the jaffa guards. I couldn’t have gotten you to the sarcophagus otherwise, we would have both been dead.”

He looks at you almost blank faced, having trouble taking that in, “Wait, wait, I was fucking dead? I thought I just got my lights knocked out.”

“For a few minutes, we got you throu-”, Sophie starts again but doesn’t get further.

Hammond interjects, “I’ve heard enough. Captain, the lieutenant here passed the medical checks, correct?”

“He did, sir.”, Wilkinson replies.

“Then we already know the rest of the story, and I have some calls to make about this.”, Hammond nods to the officers Sophie barely recognizes, “You can begin the interrogation, major. I want a report in the next hour.”

“Sir, there’s more - I can prove I’m still in control!”, Sophie blurts out hurriedly, the two of you having blown your shared initial impression.

The general and men hold up, and he turns back to face you, “And just how are you going to do that?”

“The brain wave monitoring dr. frasier ran on Kowalsky, sir. We still have the data from when he was in control and when the parasite was - There was a distinct difference in the patterns if the report was correct.”

He considers the idea for a moment before ordering you to be escorted to the infirmary, telling the major to hold off on the interrogation until you’re under the scanner. The orders are carried out swiftly, the group and several additional guards taking you out of the cell and down an elevator to begin the tests.

The electrodes are hooked up quickly, dr. frasier working with the help of several assistants, and soon enough both of your distinct brain waves are shown on a large monitor in the room. From your restrained position on a bed, arms and legs held down with straps in a display of understandable caution, you can see the patterns clearly.

“Alright Sophie, try speaking.”, she asks calmy, maintaining a professional courtesy even when talking to what she clearly sees as a goa’uld currently.

Sophie does so, and the results are recorded. Shanosh goes next, unsettling everyone in the room, the results taken again. The process is repeated a few more times with longer sentences, and eventually a few minutes of conversation. Shanosh for the most part offers out information of their past and distaste for the ways of other goa’uld - They don’t really look to be buying it except for Kenny. Sophie just goes over the botched mission, from first stepping through the gate to the moment she was put in the cell back in the SGC. Eventually dr. frasier seems to be satisfied with the results.
>>
>>3155744
“I find it hard to accept... but going by the data we’re getting it seems she’s telling the truth, sir.”, she informs Hammond, showing him the results.

“You’re absolutely sure, doctor?”, he asks carefully.

She nods slightly, “As much as I can be, sir. Sophie is definitely able to speak freely when she wants to, sharing control with the symbiote in her somehow. Never thought I’d see anything like it.”

“Take the restraints off but keep her under constant guard. Major, you can continue with your questions. Colonel Kennedy will be here in four hours, I’ll make sure he’s informed of the change.”, Hammond says to the officer that still hasn’t been introduced beyond ‘major’, no name visible on his uniform.

“Kennedy? Just great.”, Cooke groans as Hammond departs.

You’re left in the infirmary, not wounded but kept on the bed with the scan active.

Looking about the infirmary you can tell it must have been very busy over the last few hours, and signs of activity persist,

Rubbing at your wrists you enjoy the new freedom, the restraints were a bit too tight and left red impressions on you, and you look to the ‘major’. He’s a somewhat handsome caucasian man, short cropped blonde hair well on its way to being more grey than golden, probably a few years into middle age but utterly unremarkable otherwise. Brown eyes, no scars, a strong chin but nothing spectacular - Sophie has only seen this man at a distance before today, never having met him. A spook of some kind possibly? The thought trips you up for a moment, your Sophie half explaining the idea to Shanosh internally, but the point doesn’t take long to get across. The major never gives a further name to call him.

Shanosh speaks up, the deep voice still making people uncomfortable but used in an attempt to keep it easily clear who is talking, “Major, among the devices we surrendered in the gate room was a tool of healing, a palm sized stone ringed in gold. It is only capable of aiding the injured or sick, and if it was brought to me I could help those within this infirmary. I wish to prove my good will.”

“I’m under strict orders to not allow you to interact with any alien technology or weapons, you’ll be doing no such thing. The offer is noted, however.”, he answers matter-of-factly, “Dr. frasier and the other medical staff are more than capable of handling treatment on their own.”

Sophie asks now in her normal voice, worry obvious, “Can I at least see my team members? I heard they were injured but stable...”

“They are stable as I understand it, and as such there’s no need to rush to about. When we’re done with these questions I can have you escorted to see them briefly.”

“Okay then, shoot.”, Sophie agrees quickly for the two of you.

Oh and does he ever. The questions he asks feel to be almost unending, hours of asking for detailed explanations of the relationships between system lords and information about goa’uld technology, the strength of forces and all sorts other obscure knowledge even Shanosh struggles to answer in anything but the most vague detail. Shanosh’s explanation that goa’uld genetic memory is selectively passed on, and even when fully transferred only gives the memories up through a line of common ancestors rather than all goa’uld knowledge, is found to be very interesting but also… annoying? The major clearly hoped for more. Details of goa’uld that aren’t system lords, which you guess to number perhaps only a few thousand outside of the many symbiotes in jaffa, are pressed for in great detail.

Sitting up on the side of your bed you continue to speak with the major, you legs hanging off the side - Talking for so long while laying down just felt strange and they didn’t want you out of the bed. The major sits in a chair moved over from one of the tables nearby, and has been taking careful notes of your answers for the last few hours.

“Have your people ever encountered the tok’ra, major?”, Shanosh asks, offering out valuable information that has not yet been asked for.

The major takes the bait immediately, ravenous for information, “Tok’ra? Are they another alien race?”

“...It means ‘against Ra’, sir, if I heard that correctly.”, Winters chimes in from the side, leaning against one of the concrete supports for the room.

“They’re enemies of the goa’uld then?”, the major questions, giving him a quick glance.

Shanosh speaks before Winters can respond, “Their most hated enemy. They are of my species, symbiotes that disagree with the methods the system lords use and work against them.”

The major looks intrigued, raising an eyebrow slightly, “You’re going to need to be much more specific, ‘against them’ can mean a lot of things.”

Shanosh tells him what little is known to it, “They believe the system lords to be evil, that their practice of forcibly taking hosts is deeply immoral, and that the goa’uld empire must be destroyed. I know little else, despite my efforts I have never been able to contact them. They are extremely difficult to locate.”

“An interesting claim.”, the major notes calmly, but it clearly took a concentrated effort for him to hold back his curiosity.

“Ask teal’c about them, sir.”, Sophie suggests while shrugging your shoulders slightly, “He might know something that can back up Shanosh’s claims.”

“Ask the other alien? The one that only got cleared a few months ago?”, the major questions.

“Well, yes. How else could you verify any of this?”, Sophie asks a little exasperated by this point, “...Is he on a mission, or...?”

The major is tries to reveal little. “I’m not a liberty to disclose that, doctor.”

“So he is then. Ask when he gets ba-”

There’s a knock on the door from one of the guards outside.

“Come in.”, the major calls out, sliding some of his notepads together. Clearly he’s expecting something, getting ready to leave.

The door opens, and the guard steps in a few paces and speaks to the major, “Colonel Kennedy has arrived, sir. He’s waiting in the briefing room with general Hammond. They’ve requested you bring doctor Lovelace with you and head there immediately.”

“Of course. Tell them we’re on our way.”, the major says sending the guard off, “Doctor Frasier, can this machine monitoring the prisoner be moved with us?”

“It can be, major.”, she says while already getting to work doing so, a few assistants quick to step in and speed the process along.

Another escorted trip through the base to yet another elevator follows, and soon enough you’re back six levels lower and in the briefing room.

General Hammond and a man Sophie recognizes as Colonel Kennedy are sitting at the long table, and you’re guided to a seat. The major is as well, sitting down by Kennedy to his right. The new round of questioning is thankfully a bit shorter this time, Kennedy using much of the work the major has already done to speed things along.

It still takes a few hours, many subjects discussed several times, issues tread and retread. You get the feeling during the meeting that colonel Kennedy is a dangerous moron, just a tool for somebody else in Washington to effect the stargate program, and that he’d rather have you shipped off and tortured or dissected than allow you to continue on here - He doesn’t even try to hide it really, outright suggesting ‘enhanced interrogation’ at one point. Hammond is clearly still concerned over Sophies condition but makes some efforts to shield you from immediate retrieval by the colonel.

There is much more to be done to convince anyone of your intentions, and teal’c will need to return to help verify some of your claims, but having a goal going forward seems like a good thing.

We could also spend our time when not off-world teaching the scientists about Goa'uld technology so they can better combat it and integrate it into their own. This is an opportunity to advance the human understanding of science at a speed that the tv show never offered (without strings that looked an awful lot like mass-sterilization)

The rest of meeting goes by fairly quickly, the need for further questioning and confirmation of the information Shanosh has provided being obvious. You make your shared intention to stay as part of the stargate program and on an SG team known, and ask to be able to prove your good intentions somehow. Due to your candor and continuing cooperation, actions to save other SG team members during the battle, and initiative in surrendering yourself to security screening your request is very tentatively granted by general Hammond - But only once teal’c returns and after a few more days of questioning.

Colonel Kennedy doesn’t take the decision well, making an ass of himself as he protests the idea, and leaves after a bit more of an argument with the intention to ‘contact the joint chiefs’ about the ‘serious security issue’. Hammond isn’t phased by the clumsy threat, responding only with a simple “You do that, colonel.”, essentially telling him to fuck off.

You’re taken back to Sophie’s personal quarters on level 25 rather than the isolation cell, a pair of guards posted at the door and your computer and electronics are removed, but no further actions are taken to make life less comfortable. Even without electronics there’s still plenty in the room, shelves of physical books on various subjects and your drawing supplies being the big stand outs in regards to killing time. Questioning will probably begin again soon but you’re not entirely sure when, and you’ve got some time think up a way to prove yourself.

Some of your ideas are much simpler and quicker than others, but what do you settle on?

What we need is a solid reason for them to send us out on missions.
Shanosh had been traveling for decades. Surely he has old addresses and contacts. Maybe not anyone or anything mind blowing, but if they know someone, a planet, a people, the SGC could safely contact it might help.
Something like one of those village planets where they are hiding from the System Lords and could trade minor things.
It could establish Shanosh as a knowledgeable traveler and networking nerd.

All those ideas go through your head(s), but eventually they are all specific, you need something that will not only help a few people in the near future but something big. Slightly going through Sophie's memories to find what holds the Tau'ri back the most is their inability to enter hyperspace with their vessels or even leave the planet's atmosphere without significant cost. Even their greater mind are on focusing on something childish like rocket science even if they came a long way with it. In terms of money, they are blowing a significant amount of your finances in the wrong direction.

Nothing comes free. Nothing given freely will be accepted without doubt.

Take the Teal'c approach-- don't just ramble on about things or flood them with stuff. Hold knowledge until it's particularly pertinent or useful, so they're reminded why they're keeping you around.

We should focus on things that are relatively small, but immediately establishing of the normal. I.e., we should instead see if we can enhance a project Sophie has been working on. Probably late for this decision to make a difference, but I'll just make a general recommendation to not just give info like this to the humans.

A recurring theme throughout the series is the fact that everybody doesn't trust the tau'ri with all this cool tech right away, because we're not only technologically primitive, but emotionally primitive.

I mean, one of the big reasons they become so capable later is that they had to realize they needed to earn their advances. It's not enough for us to just give them knowledge, they have to understand the implications and gave a moral basis to not just harm themselves with it.

Sophie would be thrilled to explore the concept, too, further eroding any inhibitions Shannosh could have.

You spend the rest of the day charting out a basic idea for how to make yourself useful, eventually settling on trying to explain the very basic mechanics of sublight propulsion. Before that work can begin however your more immediate goal is to get a shower and change into some new clothes - It was getting horrible there for a bit. Moving about the facility under close guard is strange but Shanosh has had similar and far less pleasant experiences in the past, and you’re able to deal with the inconvenience. Eventually you’ve seen to your more basic needs, including eating a warm meal finally, and you’re able to get down to business.

The few weeks pass by quickly, engrossed in your work as you are, further questioning and visits from your team members as they recover from their injuries the only real distractions. Teal’c is able to confirm large parts of the claims you made, a very brief meeting and a few questions from him establishing all he needed to be sure of your identity. The former first prime looks to have been wounded by a staff weapon recently but you don’t push the issue, knowing how jaffa normally dislike off topic conversation. Well, in Shanosh’s experience at least, not that it has been a very positive one - Maybe they’re more talkative among themselves?

Translating Shanosh’s knowledge from genetic memories and many decades of work to something understandable by humans is not simple. Sophie is intelligent and well trained, the connection between symbiote and host helping her understand things further, but the gap in knowledge between goa’uld and humanity is immense. The very beginnings of creating a usable framework by which to understand goa’uld sublight propulsion is achieved, mostly focusing on expanding understanding of related underlying concepts, but you eventually run into a number of issues that are difficult to overcome easily or in any sort of short time-span. About a week into the effort you’re allowed to actually begin using computers on base, properly disconnected and secured from any wider network, and from there progress looks to be speeding along greatly - Until it doesn’t.

You had hoped to come up with the start of a design for a very simple and small, if horrifically inefficient due to their primitive materials and manufacturing, sublight test engine the tau’ri could experiment with to improve their understanding using their more normal methods. Nothing much in the regard is managed unfortunately, as you collectively suffer a fairly nasty case of mental block. The ideas just don’t quite fit together, grasp of the concept just out of reach for now.

Regardless the other scientists on the base take to the information like piranhas swarming a wounded animal fallen into a river, examining every detail and new piece of theory you manage to explain. Enough is understood to prove your information valuable at least, which seems to reassure quite a few people as to your helpful intentions.

All in all three weeks have passed, Shanosh and Sophie growing more used to their shared existence, and you’ve been tentatively approved to rejoin your team on missions through the gate - You’ll be under extremely close watch for some time, essentially on a probationary period until a few missions have passed. Restrictions are also in place preventing you from leaving the base, but Sophie’s apartment is taken care of in the meantime by her one of her team members and bills and other issues of mundane life can be handled from within the facility.

So you WANT our Team Leader to take out the entire Goa'uld Empire, plus the replicators when they show, plus the ori when they show, and then the wraith just to be sure....by himself?

We're just a sidesshow if The Vining is involved.

I think he's trying to game the system so that we don't have to put ourselves in danger and take things easy.
>>
>>3159071
Or our team leader is that OP specifically because having to take us down if we betray them is extremely difficult.

I personally feel like we should dislike the Tok'ra a little bit. Not because of ethics, but because if they actually worked on science they should have been able to advance more as a whole. They don't even seem like they tried to remove the addicting effects of sarcophagi and opted to die centuries quicker. Put them in the same category of idiots that don't properly value science advancement enough? I bet the only reason that Apophis even advanced his technology to the degree that he did in the TV show was SGC accidentally forcing him to when he saw that half competent humans not even trying very hard we destroying system lords left and right.

I just realized. Are WE the Goa'uld scientist that designed those ships that got upgraded from taking a few months for a trip to a few days/hours that time he went to directly attack Earth? That idiot just got rid of Goa'uld Einstein so that he can lead the manhattan project.

Over the next week you settle into life on base, Shanosh needing a fair bit of getting used to living among the tau’ri, though Sophie spent most of her time working in the facility beforehand anyways due to the recent demands of the program and her need for further combat training.

Freed from the confines of your personal quarters you’re able to stretch your legs a bit and enjoy life outside of scientific work a little for the first time as a blended pair. Everyday things baffle the symbiote, activities seen by Sophie as utterly mundane being a bizarre and alien experience for Shanosh. Showers, television, how people eat meals - Everything is different. The experience of one half of a mind learning of something the other finds routine is… odd, thrilling at times even. Tasting various foods for the first time again is wonderful, as is hearing a song for a second first time. It’s almost addictive, a fire of curiosity with the most common things lit within you.

Testing your new physical abilities, which even without effort have already noticeably increased, is fascinating to say the least. You can run faster and for longer periods, lift more, jump higher and further - Even your vision and hearing are more acute, your sense of touch enhanced along with them. The fact that you can far exceed your previous physical limits if you try, while known intellectually by Sophie since the start of this whole affair, is incredibly exciting to actually witness first hand. You commit yourself to working out more and taking better care of yourself in general going forward, how could you pass up an opportunity such as this?

Getting to socialize with your team and other base personnel is pleasant, though general concern over Shanosh’s mere existence lingers with many, and your previous friends seem to largely take to your return positively.

With whom did you spend the most time with during the week?

>Your team leader colonel Vining, an unassuming looking man but frighteningly capable veteran, continuing your weapons and tactics training aggressively to help prevent situations like that ambush from occurring again. [Mutual]
>Doctor Winters, going over various aspects of human history Shanosh finds to be fascinating in an attempt to better understand tau’ri culture. [Shanosh]
>Your team medic captain Finch. An intimidatingly large man and outwardly very confident, but Sophie knows him to be a bit of a softy and self-conscious. He’s having the hardest time with this new situation. [Sophie]
>Lieutenant Cooke. He’s the new team member, not you! SG-2 has worked closely with his old team previously, and even joined in their weekly poker games at times, but getting to know him better couldn’t hurt. [Sophie]
>Combination of two of the above.
>Write-in.

The Tau'ri seem to have a strange custom of selecting leaders on the basis of number of supporters, but yet few seem to realize the benefit of cultivating followers as a Goa'uld might.

>>

Oh, that's definitely one Shanosh would find interesting. Efficient industrial war, slaughter on a scale hard to normally imagine outside of orbital bombardment. Definitely puts the difference in war fighting mentality between the tau'ri and goa'uld in perspective.
>>
>>3160748
When did the Goa'uld get kicked out in canon again? I feel like Ancient Egypt was what they made after the Goa'uld left, so the real impressive part is that they kept the language pure enough for Daniel to figure it out when the movie happened.
Eg. Heiroglyphs generally skipped vowels, so there are a bunch of random Es added or As in whenever we talk about something (eg . god names in general like the Beetle/God Khepri which was actually written as kpr to give you a rough idea. Warning. I'm too lazy to double check the exact spelling in hieroglyphs, so this is an extremely rough example.) unless we specifically saw a source saying what the missing vowels were.
>>3160761
I personally think the revolutions might be interesting. It might give him a different perspective on infinity war and note parallels between the romanticism of fighting back against a stronger alien force and the history of the Tau'ri and the Goa'uld.

Somebody needs to take Teal'c to the museum of natural history. Even if he's not a scientist, the information itself would have been fascinating to him.

A lot of movies. Especially the painfully inaccurate sci-fi (if not alien-apocalypse) and horror ones.
their people live in a society so sheltered that they seek out thrill. Skydiving or bungee jumping.
The unusual amount of free time a normal person has. 40 hour workweek? That's insanity! How do they get anything done?
Money in general, but especially how we treat it.
Shanosh only really ever saw slave based or trade societies. And the system lords are so wealthy things like gold are utterly mundane. They may trade things (planets/tech/naquada) but not for money.
Social media
moviestars and singers, how they can be this popular

again, I'd like to know about Sophie's family

>>3160784
When they got kicked out completely isn't actually all that clear since some episodes imply they still had a presence on earth quite a bit later than ancient Egypt. Long show, inconsistencies show up. The rebellion against Ra and the sealing of the Egyptian stargate was definitely the point when their control began to wane massively though. Some raiding still might have occurred through the antarctic gate, and ship abductions seem likely to have occurred as well.

Revolutions are definitely another interesting topic.

>>3160824
That's a nice list of stuff. I'll keep it in mind for future bits.

Sophie's father died from cancer when she was very young, she barely remembers him. Her mother Josephine is a bitch of a lawyer in NYC and they don't have a great relationship, only really speaking briefly around major holidays. Her one brother Darren is an army ranger, and he generally keeps to himself but they're not estranged. Sophie wishes he'd keep in contact more. Extended family isn't on bad terms but no one has ever been big on getting together for holidays or reunions so there isn't much of a close relationship. Sophie isn't married or in a relationship currently, and hasn't been in one for awhile.

The norse crap is all over the place anyway since if you look at the actual myths and apply them to Stargate, Odin was an asshole with semen/blood powered technology, The Vanir/Aesir connection is completely backwards since the Vanir were conquered by the Aesir instead of a weird split. Loki was probably a goa'uld of some sort. Good lord at trying to explain Loki's kids. Thor should have at least two children. And I have absolutely no idea what a raining wolfpocalypse is supposed to translate into.

Was that an actual thing or was this just from that one scholar who seemed to see penis symbolism everywhere?
>>
>>3161587
Not sure desu.
My first attempt to search on it when the raildex threads first started talking about it found a bunch of scientists going "stop telling your filthy lies about aniki! It was clearly a metaphor at best!"
Then when I brought that up a few months later, the sperging scientists were nowhere to be found and anons were able to find articles. It wouldn't surprise me if it all was sourced from the same dude in a lewd game of telephone though. It's already easy to willfully mistranslate in English-->English. I don't see why Norse--> English wouldn't be even easier to make sound like innuendo.

You seem like a reasonable and thoughtful individual.

During the week you spent quite a bit of time with Kenny, Shanosh having much to learn of human cultures and history and Kenny eager to learn of the goa’uld. Sophie goes along with it, admitting that she could probably use a bit more knowledge about it all herself.

Winter’s research room is well organized and somewhat spacious, various shelves filled with artifacts from human and alien cultures covering up most of the grey concrete walls. A few small framed pictures of his family are look jarringly mundane among other more exotic items on the long working table that dominates the center of the room, the images reminders of why the work he does is so important. The overhead lighting is a little dim but a couple of lamps help make up for it, and the air smells faintly of old books though it isn’t an unpleasantly heavy aroma and it gives the area a quite scholarly atmosphere.

Shanosh and Kenny have been discussing the first world war off and on for a few days, an event the symbiote finds most interesting. Large conflicts on primitive worlds are normally not so devastating, armies generally much smaller in size due to lower populations, and the industrial and efficient nature of it all is somewhat startling. In Shanosh’s experience slaughter on such a scale is usually reserved for planetary bombardment, most often campaigns aimed at the destruction and regression of technologically advanced civilizations that could pose a threat to the goa’uld.

Kenny is sitting across from you at the central table, periodically looking between some notes as he works on a few translations while you both converse. Shanosh is doing most of the speaking, Sophie taking a backseat for awhile.

“So the goa’uld normally don’t wage conflicts like this, do they? You seem to keep coming back to the scale of the great war as being unusual.”, he comments idly while working.

“No, they do not. Wars of alliance between system lords are common but rarely are they so total. Gains are not often kept for long.”

“Due to betrayals, I assume?”, he asks almost jokingly, flipping a page in his notes.

You nod seriously as you answer, “Yes. If an opportunity to grow in strength is presented they will seize it without guilt or remorse for betrayed allies.”

Kenny seems a little surprised by that, looking up from his work slowly, “That sounds... very short sighted for such a long lived species. They can still maintain control while doing that?”

“They are very powerful, and most believe they can do no wrong. Ra held control of so much for so long that they have become used to fighting over the same systems endlessly, planets and slaves trading hands with each war and raid. Where this current struggle will lead I cannot guess... it is a new sort of conflict without Ra.”, Shanosh answers truthfully, a bit of worry tinged into the deeper voice.
>>
>>3162006
“Ah, yeah that’d do it, feudal conflict can become very strange when it’s protected from destabilization by a greater power. Let's hope they all keep self sabotaging then, Apophis included.”, he responds while turning back to the notes, “...Could you help me with this line here?”

You lean forward across the table slightly and spin the notes to face you with one hand, reading through the bit Kenny points to without issue, “It is a poetic reference to a ha’tak mothership.”

“...A mothership? That would explain the bit about wombs and sky-children...”, he trails off, rereading the line again now that it make a little more sense.
