Unlucky Servant Quest #1 >>3132271

You're Solomon, Saul for short, and occasionally, Sally. Your master is Vivi D'Roix, a countess-to-be who will inherent the title and role of the Court's Royal Executioner. Being such, she has developed quite the troubling personality, possessing terrifyingly sadistic habits since she was young. Despite this, she's cheery - eerily so - in addition to having no social skills at all. Also has the habit to sleep nude.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"What do you think about cooking, Mistress? I could help you along the way if you do choose to enter, and you might enjoy making your own food."
"Food?..." mumbled Vivi. "I might check on it later."
You grin at the obvious definition between her words. "Sure, once we have time to today."
"Y-Yeah."
Breakfast went on, Vivi gradually opening up to the baronetess with some small talk. But soon did you depart from each other, the clock turning to nine. Your thought retrieves the fact that today's the start of your future-countess' year of secondary education, and if you recall, today's the fifteenth of the first month. That is, if your calendar's up to date-- in which you confidently believe that it is.
Disregarding the date, you find some success with Vivi's interaction with Caren. By the end of the little chat, she seemed to pick up a little assurance for herself. Still, shyness plagued her; you will have to figure something out to fix that, sadly, no potent ideas come to mind. At the very least, this is a start for her, a small one.
In common daylight, a personal servant is to follow their master inside the class or wait outside, the choice differing from person to person to a wide degree. With Vivi being Vivi, she chooses for you to be with her. It's an expected decision, and you wouldn't have it any other way since she's so dependent on you in day-to-day life.
Concerning the other butlers and maids, they're allowed to wait in a given lounge inside each building by the academy itself, granted that they always be present to pick up their host. In reality, not many of them use the lounge at all, preferring to wait at the corridor's benches to be more ready for a variety of situations. It's a sensible conclusion, their jobs calling for efficiency, and additionally, convenience for their masters.
>(2/2)
Returning from the background, you must point out that Vivi has made the conscious effort to take the back-row of each lecture hall, placing herself in the left-most corner with you standing beside her. Sure, you don't get in the way, but the problem lies in that she's doing this in every class. She's adamant about it as well, and her being the superior partner of your master-servant relationship, you have no other choice but to let her. In times like these, Vivi's stubbornness can obstruct your reasoning.
Class itself is a unique experience for your master, as it isn't private for once. This being the first day of Archenwald's first-years, most teachers spend most of their time explaining the subject that they teach; basic stuff, just like the opening ceremony. Most of the initial hours of 'school' was unremarkable, lunch soon arriving-- a considered mercy for Vivi to spare her from such boredom.
"Aaah! Everything's insufferable!," complained your drill-haired mistress. "Ms.Menazoir was at least entertaining, I can't stand sitting in a seat for thirty-five minutes."
> "Ms.Menazoir chased you around with a whip when you failed to act like a proper woman, and I see that you haven't learned. Want me to ring her up?"
> "Physical education might satiate you. The instructors will let you play around in the field since you won't be taking the physical exam till later into the week, and it's your last class of the day."
Food! Also Saul forcing her into more social interaction! (Can we speak to a different character at lunch?)
Surprised Caren wasn't the commoner (or is she... just how real is her very small barony???... jk jk) but a minor noble is a good first friend for Vivi to make anyhow, so not too fussed.
Response from last thread
>3139155
Torture isn't hunting. What get her kicks is to inflict suffering, not to fight.
It's not the same thing. Not at all.
Not to mention that whether rifles aren't as "overpowered" is rather irrelevant to the fact that it's a weapon that kill from afar, not a contact one.
She won't get an ounce of respect from cutting little bits of a monster and skinning it alive after having immobilized it. If anything, it will just creep people out power 10, not to mention all the risks involved.
It's just an all around horrible idea.
too.
>>3139536
Well, the rumors said that she just joined so she couldn't be a second year.
Maybe she just wasn't included in our choices?
>>
>>3139652
I mean the description said she only LOOKED like a second year, not that she actually was.
If we do get more time to socialise at lunch we should try to sit with second year anyway - Vivi needs at least 2 acquaintances (because she literally has no one to hang out with if Caren is otherwise occupied), and apart from second year our other options are
>Princes
... yeah Vivi does not have to charisma points to get through a convo with them, and fucking up is social suicide.
>Popular girl
Avoid for same reason as Princes.
>Magic Viscount
He and Vivi may have common ground, but I'd say treat with caution because he's got a rep for being manipulative. He might unerve Vivi too much.
>Silver Kid
.... Think this is Charles? He might also be a good person to sit with, but again I'm worried about the social consequences if the convo he has with Vivi turns into a dumpster fire. But he's probably my second choice if second year isn't around.
>>
>>3139655
under that logic she shouldn't approach anyone because she has the social skills of a newborn.
>>3139650
who said anything about hunting with rifles? vivi will obviously choose the traditional methods. Snares, traps, and hunting the beast with your bare hands and holding a mouth between your mouth.
>>3139523
>"Ms.Menazoir chased you around with a whip when you failed to act like a proper woman, and I see that you haven't learned. Want me to ring her up?"
>>
>>3139650
Hunting inflicts a boatload of suffering on the animal if the person wants to be sadistic.
Cecil the lion got shot and was forced to limp around slowly dying in extreme pain for hours rather than the dude finishing him off. That doesn't sound like the boom headshot version of hunting that I'm guessing is in your mind. Sure modern hunters theoretically try to reduce pain simply because it's safer and adrenaline spoils meat, but there is a massive amount of room for sadism when alone in the woods with no witnesses.
Bullfights are pretty damn bloody.
You have this strange image of hunting where the target always dies painlessly instead of in terror or rage at being slaughtered.
Now if she's dumb enough to skin it alive while people watch, I suppose that's one thing, but slowly killing some beast threatening the local populace like a matador mostly has the fact that she'd be seen as a tomboy as the downside which is rather low on the lists of downsides to ways people could view her personality.
> "Ms.Menazoir chased you around with a whip when you failed to act like a proper woman, and I see that you haven't learned. Want me to ring her up?" "Perhaps she can succeed where others have failed?"
>>
>>3139777
Again, you seem to miss the point that she get off from inflicting pain, not just witnessing it.
Sure a botched shoot will leave an animal suffering for hours before it die but that's still not what she's into.
She isn't interested in just shooting something, stalking and then stabbing it until it dies once it has become tired enough.
Her desire is getting all touchey, observing the reactions of her victims as she slowly and deliberately torture them, removing bits of their limbs and innards while they cry and roar and suffer, that's the whole point she has that whole knife panoply in the first place.
Hunting won't provide her with much of that unless she can get all alone with her prey and monsters that can actually fight back and are a possible threat aren't something we want to allow her to "play with" for obvious reasons.
Again, it's a bad idea.
>>
>>3139523
>"Physical education might satiate you. The instructors will let you play around in the field since you won't be taking the physical exam till later into the week, and it's your last class of the day."
>>
>>3139793
Thats because you think she will hunt with a gun and thats your mistake.
>>3139777
This isnt a bad idea. Maybe she can be a bullfighter
>>
>>3139804
How else do you hunt? With bow and arrows? Crossbow and bolts? Magic?
I mean, she's a noble so some "chasse à courre" is probably what would be the most respected form of hunting and the one that club is the most likely to practice but you're getting even further of your original goal.
Let's be real, she's a pampered aristocratic lady, she isn't going to grab a boar spear and charge at fucking monsters.
>>
>>3139820
>she isn't going to grab a boar spear and charge at fucking monsters.
You just sit there and watch how she does that exact thing.
We'd be right behind her with a hunting shotgun to prevent any mishaps
>Implying we are capable of saying "no" to vivi
And >>3139849 is right; we'd be right behind her with the proper equipment to put the beast down(and patch up vivi) if something goes wrong.
>>
>>3139820
I did initially say it's a long term goal specifically because she'd need extensive training to properly do it. The motivation for her is easily there since it would let her semi publicly be able to engage in her urges. It would be at least a little easier for her attention to not wander off like usual. because of this. The key thing is to not immediately jump into things and get her hurt. We're going in a bit blind here since we (the players) don't know enough about the local culture to say what would and wouldn't be an appropriate path to this goal. Dress it up in a bunch of flowery or romantic language about the triumph of man vs beast and all of that. We might even be able to fidangle some sort of lion/manticore pet to show that she has respect for the majesty of nature (like a true hunter) since the family is well off enough to afford the meals that she's lovingly stripped of skin organs and bone for her pet.
>>
>>3139820
We're in a fantasy universe. it is entirely plausible that various forms of magic enhancements exist to make melee combat somewhat efficient (compared to usual) and not 100% tossed aside in favor of a gun at least some of the time. Maybe magically enhanced bullet technology hasn't been figured out yet since the gunpowder/etc explosion wrecks any attempt to imbue elements/spells into the bullets?
"I just want to know how long these teachers will talk, and it's not about the study itself most of the time, it's stuff that I already heard in the opening ceremony."
"Can you remember what any of the previous teachers said? Or the headmaster's speech?" you tested.
Vivi quiets down, proving your presumptions true with the cost of your mistress' defeated grin. "... N-Not that it's important! I'm a good girl anyways!" Folding her hands and posing like a helpless maiden, she then continues, "I'm a good girl, right, Saul~? An angel~?"
Vivi puffs out a cheek, "Devils can be nice."
Begrudgingly, Vivi went through the last half-hour of a class, her eyes turning dead until lunch, to which they lit up with life in an effort to escape. Just when she was about to choose the same table that she sat at this morning, you suggested that the both of you should return to Caren's. Vivi was relunctant at first, but mulling over it eventually led her to do so, waiting at the baronetess' assumed spot for a while. She seemed to be running late.
Telling Vivi that Caren is probably running late or is just busy, you lead her to another table, in particular, the one with the silver haired boy. She groans, but follows through in the end, taking a seat across from the person.
As always, you make the first move so your master can transition in more smoothly. "Greetings, is it alright if my mistress sits here?"
The boy looks up to you, picking his head up like child, as he does look like one. He smiles brilliantly, "No, I'm fine with it. May I know who you are?"
"I am Vivi D'Roix's personal butler, Solomon, but you can refer to me as Saul."
His eyes light up in wonder, "Really? You mean that family?" now looking towards Vivi.
Your master shakes her head in comfirmation, urged to answer, "Y-Yeah."
"Oh, right, I forgot," the boy says, remembering to state himself as well. "I'm Charles Lorensol, you most likely know that my father's Marquess Fernand Lorensol, the Prime Minister."
Vivi whispers to you in secret, comedic in the opposite perspective's view, "H-He's sixteen, yes?"
"Charles' is a sickly fellow, that's probably why," you whisper back.
"Is something wrong?" then asked the boy in question, innocently so, much more genuine than how your master acted back then.
"Er-- Nothing, I was just wondering why you look s-so... huggable," replied Vivi. You notice how her eyes scan Charles, one with a very, very familiar manner. A predator's.
Charles laughs, "Hehe, I get that a lot. It's kinda difficult to how small I am sometimes. I need to rely on taller people for cabinets and stuff."
> "Mistress, if you plan on cutting him open, you will find yourself in a more trouble than it's worth."
"Hm, it's been alright so far. Nothing too spectacular. But I want to know about you, Miss D'Roix."
"M-Me?"
"Nnn~! I have only heard of your family's history from father, and I wanted to know if you're inheriting the role and title."
"Why yes," staggering in speech and posture, "I am the sole daughter of my household."
"Is that so? I suppose that a princess-like executioner is unique, if not fantastical. You know how rare it is for a daughter to be the main head."
"G-Guess I'm lucky, haha."
"But, doesn't it bother you that you're becoming one?"
Vivi, as if on queue, hints to you for guidance.
You have only a smug grin to give her, directing your master to speak for herself in this situation.
"...Um, no, I don't have a problem with it. I actually like to be one soon," Vivi says, resuming the conversation back to its rigid flow.
"That's good to hear. Taking on a hereditary role makes a lot of sons and daughters dissatisfied, so it's promising when one is excited rather than disdainful. There's also the indifferent, but being indifferent doesn't make for a topic."
For a moment, the table was absent of talk, the two eating their meals in silence. Eventually, Vivi spoke up again, this time with a strange request. "M-May I feel you for a bit?"
Charles tilts his head in puzzlement, but seeing nothing wrong, he lets her. "Hey, that tickles, I'm still a grown-up, even if I look like a child."
...Also if this is us PASSING the dice count, I shudder to think what would have happened if we failed.
>>
>>3140664
Let's be honest, it's totally going to end up like that.
The only thing we need to ensure is that she limit herself to poor peoples rather than try and target the ducal shota like she is right now.
>>
>>3140836
Thats why we must teach her to hunt and that hunting humans is boring. We as a group might be the apex predator, but alone are very weak.
>>
>>3140836
Sure we should make sure she mainly sticks to the peasants in the future, but the fact that ducal shota is pinging so hard on her radar shows that our mistress has absolute patrician tier taste.
We should let her have a taste of what its like to own him by ensaring him in the guise of FRIENDSHIP.
>>
We should let her indulge in her pleasures with something after this to please her.
>>
>>3140866
I concur wholeheartedly anon. The ducal shota shall now be our number one target.
>>3140852
Still a bad idea, still not going to work.
Who cares if beggars and other poor people start to go missing? Certainly not the nobility.
>>
>>3140890
Because she wont stop at beggars. In the same manner that critters and small game ended up being dead horses eventually poor people will get boring for vivi and she will move up on the social ladder, and when that happens it will be too late because we will also be on the list.
Its the best for everyone involved that vivi doesn't get to kill people, otherwise shit is going down.
>>
>>3140935
Anon, you're aware I hope that she's the heir of a family of executioner and that she will inherit the title and responsibility sooner than later, right?
There literally is no way to "stop her from killing humans" because it's gonna be her god damn job.
>we will be on the list
No we won't. Co-dependence is a Hell of a drug and changing of dealer isn't really an option.
She probably will move to middle class after some years and maybe one or two disgraced nobles but her job will give her plenty of opportunity to get both "legally".
It's gonna be alright, she isn't going to be the first torturer that love her work too much and she certainly isn't going to be the last.
>>
>>3140699
Suspicions about her either having massive spaghetti or doing this on purpose are rising. Theoretically everything about her other than her hobby is supposed to be relatively normal.(or so I thought)
>>3140935
And seriously. Don't let her advance to people. Anything else can make her weird or creepy, she could get stuck in a dusty old castle tower,they could even still let here pop out a baby and let the inheritance skip a generation, but the second she starts with random humans there is no saving her from whatever mess happens if/when she gets caught and her father might be the one forced to do the execution depending upon just how much her choosing a certain target pissed everyone important off.
Even killing peasants has a limit for nobility and little miss can barely stand one day of waiting so far.
>>3140967
That only works if she can wait until it's time for her job. She has poor impulse control or at least little desire to control them once she has them..
>>
>>3140967
On thing is to kill for a job and the other is to kill humans for sport or fun. Also, we are not supposed to encourage her antics and like you said, co dependence is a hell of a drug and we are her dealer; we can redirect her urges.
Like it has been said before, being an executioner isnt a well regarded position and the slightest gossip can fuck us over. So why give the people more ammo to hate us when there are other, safer alternatives?
>>
>>3140983
To be fair, Vivi has been shown to have a penchant for shiny white things - as seen in her reaction to Sally (bird). Probably because she wants to Mar their untarnished imagine by spilling their blood, knowing her.
Charles is probably pushing all her buttons by being 1)small, 2)innocent 3)having silvery hair - she was able to keep it together pretty well when speaking to Caren.
>>
>>3140992
We can curb and redirect her urges to some extent but we can't change them.
Hunting isn't going to be enough because it won't fulfill her desire to torture and inflict pain. It's just not the same thing.
At all.
Moreover, one thing you all guys seem to be forgetting is that co-dependence is, as the name suggest, a two way street.
Our Saul is not going to kidnap the prime minister's son because he know the consequences of it for Vivi, not because of any moral qualm.
He's been raised with her, if not to some extent BY her. He's gutter scum with no family left nor goal apart from serving his mistress. From capturing live animals to assisting her in her "playing", obeying order while putting his moral aside (if he has even managed to develop one in that context) is all he has known all his life.
At this point, he's definetely as fucked up and broken as Vivi, just in a different fashion from her.
If she ask him to kidnap, restrain or kill a person, he's going to do it with no further reflection than "will this have consequences for my Lady?". He probably won't take any particular pleasure at it, but he will do it without a second thought or shred of pity.
Trying to have Saul actively set as a goal to stop her from ever targeting humans just make no sense with that in mind.
Hell, I think even her parents are resigned to the fact that it's going to happen one day.
>>
>>3141038
You are... rather wrong on saul though. In all the time we have played as him we haven't shown any of the things you said saul should have. If anything we just have grown jaded to her antics because all the time we pass with her. Yes, we are broken, but not in the way you say.
>Hunting isn't going to be enough because it won't fulfill her desire to torture and inflict pain.
Thats because you are thinking vivi will hunt with guns. She definitely won't do that because -like you said- its boring. She will grab that boar spear and will get close and personal with the terrorized tiger that she has been slowly but surely killing and we will be right behind her with a hunting shotgun and a first aid kit.
>>
>>3141061
Am I? I don't think so, no. We've been with her for a very, very long time so our acting jaded to her antics is a given but so far we've only seen her "daily life" and nothing more.
She has yet to actually start torturing shit or demanding anything from us but since we felt compelled to go and capture some wild animal for her (even if we got her to keep it alive for the time being) it's pretty telling how accustomed we are to it.
Saul is definitely in the image of his mistress, just in a different way.
Everyone got what you meant by hunting but it's still dumb and it's still not the same thing.
It's not because two activities involve causing pain or killing something that they're in any way equatable.
>>
I think that while firstly Saul is Vivi's servant secondly he is her friend may be her only friend & trying to dodge all of her attempts to kill something doesn't seem right.
>>
>>3141101
I'm not saying that she shouldn't kill, i'm saying that she shouldnt kill people because that bring problems like being killed by our dear dad's blade.
>>3141100
>She has yet to actually start torturing shit or demanding anything from us but since we felt compelled to go and capture some wild animal for her [...] it's pretty telling how accustomed we are to it.
Well no shit, we have been doing the same song and dance for more than 10 years, we obviously are used to it. But we made a promise to her dad that we would do our best to keep her under control, and that includes trying to temper her urges.
>>
>>3141100
I never especially saw us as codependent in such a way. It really just feels like you are seeing an entirely different imagine of what is going on (which you are perfectly entitled to do) but please be aware that your imagination seems to vastly differ from at least 2~ anons which is a decent analogy for vivi vs everyone else.
We are the unfortunate butler, not the revelling in our mistresses naked bloodbaths butler. The killing isn't something we enjoy. We simply nut up and do it because we are PROFESSIONAL.
"Of course, lets kidnap the son of the Prime Minister. What's the worst that can happen?" you susurrate, looking at her with a deadpan face with all of the characteristics of a blank, clean plate, "...Though I admit, he would've looked absolutely striking if placed next to your Sally, Mistress, with that alabaster hair." Your voice then returns to a normal level, now talking directly to Charles who was watching the image, interpreted as a cartoonish scene of a master and servant, "From which side of the family did you inherit it from, Master Charles? Your hair color."
"My hair?" he repeated, "I got it from my mother, however, hers is more white than silver. Where do you come from yourself, Solomon? Your hair is that of soot and coal, darkly-grey-- not to mention, longer than the average teenager. That is if you're willing to tell," shaking his hands apologetically, "I wouldn't want to pry into personal information."
Sadist. A sociopath would be perfectly capable of manipulating people and not be a social mess like vivi is.
>shtick as doomed to fail as it is annoying, that's all, not to mention how much it takes away from every character involved.
Its our job to make her grow in the right ways if she wants to have the position of royal executioner. We promised it to her and her dad basically treathened us to keep her reputation as good as posible.
>>
>>3141173
Again. You're forgetting the unfortunate part of the quest. Curbing her tendencies as best as possible while in school is part of our orders and we are carrying out those orders under the threat of death.
She's also not a sociopath, she's a sadist. Sociopaths fit in with society much more easily. Quite a normal overly doted and sheltered child otherwise.
If you wish for us to go right along with your ideal of encouraging her we will shortly be visited upon via axe or sword from her father according to the very premise of the first few posts.
"That's nice! You must be very, very nice, Miss D'Roix!" Charles complimented, seeing Vivi as an unfounded saint.
"Kehaha, I really am the greatest~" your masters says in response, gleaming with a frequent confidence.
The remainder of lunch was spent with Vivi talking to Charles, constantly being monitored by you as she picked up a dangerous interest to the young Marquess. Unfortunately, the boy himself is ignorant to the fact with as much suspicion as a goldfish. Soon, he gave his farewells first when the time called for both of their leave, and to your master's dismay, she followed suit to his example.
On your way to the next class - Charles absent from the both of you - Caren suddenly showed up, meeting mid-way inside a facility's corridor. She prayed forgiveness for leaving Vivi waiting, underestimating how much time she had for other unspecified businesses. Your master was alright with it, and for you, grateful that she clarified herself. And with that out of the way, she rushed to where she is suppose to be. Your evaluation of her has changed from modest, to modest and slightly air-headed; you thought that she would be the commoner that most people are talking about, unless, they mistaken a baronetess as a commoner.
As seen by earlier whereabouts, the next set of classes before physical education were just introductions, "The incessant blabbering of people who think they're smarter than me," in Vivi's case. Being familiar with this noble daughter - as you were practically raised by her - you find that statement less than likely. But what she lacks in properness and other crucially fine elements of a lady, she makes up in astronomically brutal strength. If she were serious, she could pin your down despite her shorter stature.
Her strength wasn't put to use in her last class sadly, and instead, occupied herself by sitting in a shade made by her parasol. It wasn't awfully hot at the time, more so cooler than the average day of northern Francheur.
"Saul, how do I look?" she asked, pulling the waistband of her gym shorts and letting it go with a snap; the woman's locker room wasn't as welcoming as you hoped to be, Vivi dragging you inside because who else is going to dress her. "It's nice for the academy to supply their students with appropriate clothing, but it's kinda tight, especially at the thighs and chest."
> "It's called support, Mistress. Although tight, the material won't chafe much, and it'll act as a second bra of sorts."
Saucy banter is not the same thing as bullying anon, besides, chances are if any actual bullying did occur it would come from someone else who would probably be "disappeared" shortly thereafter. "Dare I say it? That you've actually graduated from being flat?"
Vivi shrugs, "I have yet to gain a nice pair, but it's good to see that drinking my milk has paid off-- even if I'm still considered a washboard."
"Drinking milk doesn't promote breast growth, do you perhaps still believe in that?"
"Fufu~ Silly, silly, it only appears that way because it's a slow process! We'll see progress in a few more years, just you wait."
"I'm happy that you are confident about the matter, but you might find disappointment instead, My Mistress."
"Hmph, in time, you'll come to know that I am irresistible. A second blessing to be!"
You raise a brow, doubtful, "What was the first one?"
"Serving the gracious me of course! A blood countess into a blood goddess~"
"Don't get too ahead of yourself."
Vivi's antics can be fun to enjoy from time to time, as her person is always one to border intimacy without really crossing it. In other words, she loves to talk about it, but never getting her hands dirty with it no matter how unpure her eyes or tongue are. While others of the same class would get uncomfortable upon entering those type of conversations, you have grown desensitized to it, growing into a sort of outlet that was made for your master to engage with such topics. It's certainly preferable to anything else that she does for 'fun'.
Admittedly, when a man if faced with such - or more specifically you, the only man that she has been around for the longest time, with her father being a significantly close second - you can't help but imagine her implications and suggestive details. Natural, it is only so, however, never wild as you fish your head from the depths of imagination all too easily.
Hope we manage to drag Vivi out for dinner instead of having it in her room, purely because it'll be a last ditch attempt to figure out what's the deal with brown haired second year. The way to go - will certainly mean we need to spend less actions socialising each friend individually.
...Also gonna have to retract my comments on finding out the second year's identity at all cost - we've rolled the dice, looking for Charles and Commoner, and ended up with Charles and a minor noble instead.
Now we gotta gently urge Vivi carry on forming a friendship with them - with Charles as the priority, since befriending him means we're gonna meeting the princes sooner rather than later. Also because Charles is an absolute cutie
In the distance is Caren's figure, wearing the same type of clothes of that of your master. "Only if your surprise is worth it," Vivi says, leaving to join the baronetess. "I'll make my own way to the dormitory once this class ends, should be okay."
"Oh yes-- What about dressing yourself?"
"It'll be fine, Saul. I'm not that helpless without you," Vivi assured with her signature smile. With that, she finally took off, leaving you free until she arrives at her lodging.
After departing from the academy's sprawling field, you went to catch some critters first, although, indecisive whether for Vivi to kill them or not. Only just a few mice that could fit in your palm, stuffed inside your chest pocket to which they obediently stayed. A couple of times did you retreat to the sidelines, checking upon Vivi whose being was alright in every sequential glance, running a few laps at high speed with nothing but a bead of sweat. Caren, unexpectedly enough, could keep up with your master-- goes to show how horrifying women can be, more so teenagers.
You didn't plan out much of what you were going to do after leaving Vivi's side, eventually leading you to wandering the campus mindlessly. Nonetheless, you have some ideas.
Information was harder to come by in comparison to last night, but you still picked up on some gossip in-between rooms.
*The commoner's identity was actually that girl you previously made eye contact with. Her appearance can be misunderstood, often seen as a second-year, or even a third-year.
- She lives on the upper-most floor of the dormitory, however, you have yet to know her apartment's number.
- Origins are unknown, personal information are only limited to her age and appearance. Says to be sixteen, but is more likely one or two years older than that. Amber-colored eyes, a beauty mark on her neck, voluptuous body, and black hair that's similar to yours. Overall 'bewitching'.
- Proofless rumors say that she's also talented in magic, or more specifically a certain type. Has yet to make contact with the viscount.
- Spends most of her time at the library that you're nearing right now, mostly sleeping there. Doesn't show concern about skipping classes.
- The black magic club has made numerous attempts to recruit her. Unsuccessful so far.
*There seemed to be a ghost sighting last night, some sort of phantom wandering the dormitory's floors. Activity ceased upon nine-o'clock.
*The alchemy club is attempting to create a philosopher's stone as a year-project. Unsuccessful so far.
*A blacksmithy was opened for a new club, built behind the back gate of the academy's walls.
*The academy has allowed access to the forest outside as it's small.
*A certain member of the Canadol religion youth, otherwise known as the Canadol club, has made a name for herself through excessive zeal. Although, this zeal is often seen as comical, the girl getting herself into some hijinks with the black magic club. Has been seen sulking today because of it.
*You came across a girl playing in the academy's garden, talking to a doll as if it was human. She didn't notice your presence as far as you know, thought you should keep a note on that.
Your opinion on nobles are slowly becoming messy. Reminds you of the upper-class of Sdovnia in the east before the Red Revolution became a thing. Their previous emperor's son has return order since then when he was reinstated.
Blacksmithing sounds interesting, maybe something for Saul to do when not around Vivi
>>
The commoner is definitely not a Shoujo protag and seem to be even more anti-social than our mistress so there is really no need to try and bother befriending her, we're a mere servant so finding Charles on our own is essentially out of question, being associated with a girl who speak to her doll is probably just going to tank Vivi's reputation even further.
Out of all the choices, befriending !notFarnese is probably the least worst choice as zealots tend to not mind much about how much their witch-hunters love their job.
So
The first step to this is convincing her to eat dinner with us + Vivi tonight.
I do want to get Saul's magical skills up, but we're not gonna have much time to do that if we're running after Vivi all the time. Getting a magic(?) user we can leech techinques off of into Vivi's potential friend group would be better.
The fact that Saul is a magic user + a commoner means that he has a lot of common ground with her that he can use to his advantage during their encounter.
...We can sell it to Vivi by saying learing spellwork is opening the doors for more exotic torture techniques in the future.
As much as I like Charles, we want him and Vivi to become friends. Also it'll look a bit weird for a mere Butler to be chatting to the Prime Minister's son without his mistress present.
Dude, she's a alluring, aloof, bookish beauty who hails from a completely different world from most noble boys at the academy (making her a breath of fresh air to them if) and would rather hole herself up with her books than deal with pesky socialization and the flipperies than come with it.
That's a ripe set up for some noble boy to stumble into her library sanctuary and lose his heart to her the moment their eyes meet - and thus spending the rest of the year trying to woo her despite all the odds and obstacles that will crop up in the path of true love. If that someone is a Prince then the romance novel writes itself.
Also I really wanna fuck those black magic club weirdos over by poaching their star prospect.
She's the sole commoner in a school for nobles who prefers to spend all her time in the library.
She's a magical (and prettier) version of Haruhi from Ouran.
Saul's gonna be the 8million yen vase that serves to catapault her into the orbit of some eligible noble.
...Actually Vivi + Saul's dynamic are pretty much like Nekozawa and his Beelzenef. Caren can be Renge if Commoner does fall into our budding friend group.
Given her three most defining traits so far appears to be "smart", "a bit of a cunt" and "silent" she looks more like your average shonen love interest than a shoujo heroine but well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
We should take into account Vivi's feelings a bit more. Push her too hard on getting friends she may not want and she might explode. She's a teenager. She's hardwired to be rebellious right now and we're controlling her life a bit much.
(With shitty spanish subs because fuck finding a better one this late)
Pretty famous shoujo manga where MC is a poor commoner who gets manages to get a scholarship to a fancy school for the rich and elite by acing the entrance exam (everyone else buys their way in). Initially she spends all her time studying in the library until plot stuff happens (mainly involving the breaking of a 8 billion yen vase) and she's forced into the company of some of the most attractive men in the school. Naturally she eventually winds up with the blonde princely character after a bunch of romantic hijinks.
Said MC also starts off super aloof and snarky before mellowing out considerably over time - now look at Commoner and see if you find any resemblences.
That's why we keep her well supplied with all the forest critters she needs to sate her bloodlust. No more sparing the fluffy things like we did Sally.
Also one of the reasons she's attending this school is to make her into a well rounded noble, and socialising is a part of that, no matter how much Vivi hates it.
Best bite the bullet now and ease her into making new aquaintances now, when the school year is young and cliques haven't fully formed yet and people are more open to meeting their peers, than trying to force her to interact with established groups later on in the year with her sub par social skills.
Luckily, you're already on your way towards the library that this commoner is said to mostly find herself in. You might as well check some of the books that they have as well, and maybe pick up a club registry there; you'll still have to find that club list in the academy's main office for an extra measure, the one that Caren told you about.
Upon entering inside the library, the scent of archaic books hits you with full force, fully authentic and familiar. There's not many people here when class is still in session, a few other students here and there along with a librarian, an old man that is nodding off to the silence. The whole place is bigger than you imagined, rows of shelves that extend from one end to the other, and continuing to each additional floor that spanned the same length.
Through enough exploration, you find the person you are looking for. She's sleeping with a pile of books at her side, resembling your master's way of slumber, all with suggestive detail. That aside, she matches all the characteristics that you can remember about her; you're sure that this is the one.
"Excuse me," you say in a hushed voice, trying to wake her up.
"Excuse me," you repeated, this time closer to her. "Could you wake up, Miss?"
Again, the commoner says something in a faint voice, "...c...er"
"Huh?"
The girl's face then grinned devilishly, "Got'cha, Sweetie~" She grabs your coat, hugging you with full force. You try to free yourself but something else is inhibiting your movement, not her. Yelling out isn't an option either, as it'll cause unwanted attention that could negatively affect Vivi.
>We need baby steps
These are baby steps though. By the end of the day Vivi may know three whole people who she could possibly spend more time with in the future.
>Massive social circle scheme
...of three people? And we only wanted two initially (Charles + commoner) we just got Caren cos we thought she was the commoner. I can see anons voting to ignore her if Saul and Vivi actually get along with Commoner after this.
Giving her critters to kill is enabling her yes, but Vivi will actually meltdown if we don't give her an outlet for her murderous tendancies. Also if her bloodlust is sated she'll be more open to actually put some effort into actually being a proper noble.
I think trying to her to keep bloodlust down / try to control it at all is impossible by this point, all Saul can do is keep her acts hidden and point Vivi at acceptable targets only (animals, eventually criminals).
Anons are trying to shove her right next to what could be a massive reverse harem as thier reason for going after the commoner girl. It's not three people. It's every single eligible bachelor in sight. We want Vivi to get along with Commoner.
Vivi IS barely capable of socialising, but unfortunately for her she needs to git gud at it. Anons were specifically introducing her to people of a status where Vivi's eventually social fuckups won't spell social suicide for her and cripple her entire school career - I specifically was aiming to get her to meet the Commoner because 1) she won't mind if Vivi screws up some obsure NOBLE etiquette rule and 2) she can't spread Vivi's fuck ups around the school gossip chain like wildfire, which would have been the case if Vivi screwed up infront of most other nobles.
I also voted for Charles because Vivi needs to make SOME high ranking social connections in her 3 years at the academy. Charles is also friends with the two Princes, so if she befriends him Vivi will come into contact with her future employers with hopefully enough social tact under her belt (from her interactions with Charles / Caren) that she doesn't end up with egg on her face after meeting them. also I like shotas sue me
"Rumors say that you're good with magic, which took me here in the end. I do a bit of it myself you see, but finding people to talk about it with are few and far between."
Mercedes giggles, "I've heard that kind of sentence more times than I can count, you know. Still, I'll let you in on it personally, I had my eyes on you for a bit and I can see that you're not a bad person. You remember this morning, right?" Getting up, she gathers the books into her arms, moving pass you, "Let's move somewhere better, there's a table back here."
Following her, you take a seat at the back of the library, secluded within a wall of bookshelves that tower over your height. Here, you can feel the stagnant air as no one has taken their time to traverse this part of the building, full of dust and heavy with the fragrance of aging paper. Nor you or Mercedes are bothered by it, instead, finding peace in itself. The slightest sound rips through the atmosphere with clarity, and the two of you are completely absent of surrounding company.
"Eyes up here, Sweetie," Mercedes teased, starting the conversation.
>>
>>3143585
"Let's see what you know, care to show me an example?" Without a word, you create another fire sprite, strolling upon the wooden stage without burning a splinter. Mercedes' eyes lit up with gentle fascination, "My, my, you're able to create one of these, huh-- and for them to not blow up. Had any idea of joining the military in the past yet?"
You shake your head, "No, and I choose not to. But I know how much a general will pay for to have that kind of asset."
"That's find in its own right. How many can you make though?"
"Never measured much. The most that I recorded is a hundred or so at a time to help me clean. Despite their small bodies, they can really help out."
"Impressive~ Moving on, do you know any other types of magic?"
"Just basic spells of the four main elements."
"Guess a butler doesn't need that much knowledge about it. Anyways, watch carefully." Pulling out a thick journal from out of the pile of books, Mercedes begins to write down a circle of strange symbols. The closest thing that you can compare them with are runes that originated in the north of this continent, Eulesia. It doesn't look to be anything spectacular, but what it caused made you change your mind, something that you never anticipated. Ripping out the page, Mercedes then gives it to you, "Tear it."
Confused, you do as she asked, however, unable to perform the task. You soon figured out what has happened, "... You made it unbreakable."
"In reality, I actually made it stronger, not unbreakable," Mercedes' corrected, "I write commands through these characters, no matter the medium. Chiseled stone, ink, drawings in the sand, they complete their assigned function until they're destroyed by other forces. Of course, there are limitations: I can't make a boulder as light as a feather if I slap on some writing on it, it'll flat out fail and is just plain illogical for even magic to perform. The more complex the written command is, the more I need to reinforce it with additional details such as magic circles. While the simpler the command, the easier it is to conjure the effect."
"What about living beings?"
"Enhancing organisms is possible, but is on the harder side of the spectrum. It also depends on a person's inherent constitution."
"Do these runes originate in the north-side of this continent? They resemble each other somewhat" you asked, trying to pinpoint where this type of magic could come from. "Also, does writing these characters in different materials and substances affect it too?"
"I do not know the magic's origins. It was found in a book that I stole when I was a kid. The place that I got it from was an abandoned house in the middle of a vast plain, empty except for the book. From it, I taught myself, mastering it since I was nine or so. There isn't any noticeable change from what I know, the spell's efficiency will not be altered if I write in ink rather than chalk. Also, they're called keys."
"Keys... Is this only unique to you? Can others learn it?"
"Probably. Like you said, it's kinda like runes, but not. Fluid in its words rather than rigid in its symbols, sentences rather than a sequence of marks. Do you want me to teach you?"
"I stay at the last floor in the eastern dormitory, room 825, right before the staircase that leads to the roof. Oh, when shall we meet? The time I mean."
"I believe after eight p.m. is fine, most students would be asleep by then, or is suppose to be."
"Good, oh good, it's nice to have a smooth schedule. I often find myself losing track of time, even with a clock in my room," Mercedes joked, certainly looking like the type of girl.
Seconding either asking if Vivi could come or telling Vivi about the whole magic tutoring thing. Sneaking off to meet a strange girl at night is asking for disaster. Especially when mistress likes the knives.
...But would the school population at large care that much about two commoners meeting? I can see it happening if she was a noble for sure, but would they really care about the dealings of two random peasants to the same extent?
Ah I missed the breeding hamsters part. Might be doable, just gotta make sure they don't he spooked enough to eat the babies in good old hamster fashion.
>...But would the school population at large care that much about two commoners meeting? I can see it happening if she was a noble for sure, but would they really care about the dealings of two random peasants to the same extent?
Are you expecting a school full of teenage girls to NOT take any excuse to gossip? Unique magic makes her a possible matter of national security, at least one prince is already interested, the entire occult club being after her, and we still have the standard classicist villain with what I presume is a giant information network.
>>
>>3144513
I should proofread more.
That's at least 4 sources of surveillance (or reasons for it) on Mercedes.
>>
>>3144513
>Unique magic makes her a possible matter of national security
If it's made irrefutable public knowledge, that is. Right now its just rumors and hearsay, in a placd habited by teenagers which makes it a hotbed for all sorts of outlandish rumors to gain traction anyway. And it looks like Mercedes has been pretty good at avoiding / deflecting the question previously. Looks like Saul is the only one she's brought into the fold regarding her power.
...You're right about the other 3 points though. Hopefully some nobles will caught having a tryst or something so the gossip buzzards have better things to focus on than the doings of our Saul.
Also we need to figure out which girl the Prince is into. He's got a reputation of a womanizer which makes it a bit odd to me that, if the woman he's into IS Mercedes, he didn't even mention her great bod once when talking to his bro.
The fact that he brought up an 'odd aura, not like the usual noble' made me totally think it was Caren at first, who even Saul has noted feels different to other nobles.
>>
>>3144539
Whether or not it's made public knowledge. It not being public knowledge makes her even more valuable to the country as she's in control of a secret magical technology from parts unknown and she's the only one that understands or mastered how it works. It could take years to make some other people learn it or for Mercedes to train some apprentices up from scratch.
TLDR so you mean she's a secret weapon? Even more reason for her to be monitored.
>>
>>3144299
>Leave towards Vivi's lodging
>>
>>3144551
No, I mean the quality of rumor floating around right now literally boils down to 'Yo we HEARD AROUND than this girl MAY have some unique magic'. Not even Saul knew for sure whether she even had magic when he approached her.
And Mercedes doesn't seem to be explicitly confirming OR denying the rumors to anyone but Saul, seeing as how she's rejecting the black magic club but still rumors surrounding her magic use persist.
As it stands, these enough ambiguity and doubt surrounding the current rumors about her that her magic use as a whole can easily be written off as some childish gossip blown way out of proportion, or a fake tale someone made up. There's not ENOUGH evidence of her magic use to get anyone more important than students to pay attention right now.
By public knowledge I mean if enough information gets out that the rumors change to "Hey that girl Mercedes can use a rare form of word magic!" AKA the public gets hard proof that she can use magic at all.
Saying your temporary farewell to Mercedes, you head out of the library all the while taking a club registry at the front desk. It'll be handy if Vivi does find something that she's interested in. You still have to check out that cooking club for today as well, and if the chance arises, the blacksmithy.
Once at your master's lodging, you started to touch on some stuff while she is gone for the moment, polishing her well-beloved knives from out of the case and reordering her closet. Minor preparations like setting up the bathroom is also done in a short length, leaving you time to spare. The only responsibility left at that point is to feed Sally, perched inside the hung cage.
Later on, you could hear the faint footsteps of what you presume to be Vivi's, approaching the door in a steady pace. When opened, you see that your guess is true, but not in the way that you expected it to be.
"Mistress, why are you still in your P.E. clothes? Didn't you have time in the locker room?" you inquired.
Her cheeks are flushed, the dress from today slung over her arms, "I didn't know how to put it on..."
You sigh, "But you said that you were going to be alright when alone."
"I-It wasn't too much of a hassle, no one really cared much. Just hurry up with everything, I'm tired," commanding you to freshen her up.
With slight disappointment - subsiding when your mind became occupied - you wash Vivi of all of the fatigue of this previous hour. You haven't told her about the things that you planned, and you're mind has not decided for you to reveal the mice in your pocket. They are quite cute.
Resting herself onto a chair, Vivi laid back and relaxed. But not a second later, she leaned forward energetically with an anticipating grin, "So, what's the surprise!?" Even Sally fluttered about in your master's suddenness.
"These mice are different from Sally. She represents the urges you must overcome if you are to succeed in life, and must go entirely without harm. These are simply a reward. And speaking of Sally, please refrain from enjoying your surprise around her. I wouldn't want her to get frightened by bloodshed.
She's been a good sport socialising this much. Also will sweeten her up for:
With you permission, would, you permit me to attend magical tutoring with her in the evenings? Of course, I'll be sure to ask her if you can sit in on us Mistress, if you so desire.
If you guys wanna magic it up for Mercedes we gotta be upfront with Vivi with her offer now - rather than be caught red handed later. Cos we still wanna get Vivi more non-Saul aquaintences. Also maybe shove in there that she's the commoner, so speaking to her will be a different experiences than chatting wih nobles? Might be like chatting with Saul, to ease any nerves she has.
"Close your eyes and give out your hand," you say, Vivi doing so with giddiness in her disposition. When you lay the mice onto her hands, you then instruct her to open her eyes again, your master's grin growing even more monstrous. But before she could say anything herself, you speak. "This is only a sweet reward for making an effort in socializing. Apart from that, Sally is still to be exempt from your practices."
"Hmm~" Vivi happily hummed, "I could care less about that bird! Did you prepare an area in advance, yet?"
You nodded, "Inside my room. Once your done, I will take care of the cleaning."
Vivi jumps out of the chair and scampers to your door. Following right after her, you watch over your mistress who delighted in the small sacrifices that you gave her. A whole day of abstaining from such actions only fueled the cathartic relief of the young woman in front of you, delicately twisting and turning tools by the hand that you supply her with in each command. Vivi was happy, that emotional uplift lingering after the gruesome period.
The mice thoroughly dead, their remains only but a crimson art display on top of a few linen sheets, you assist Vivi in cleaning herself. It called for another bath, making sure that all the blood is washed off your mistress' hands. Likewise, your quarters are not excused in the process, bundling up the white sheets for washing and cleaning any stain with a few chemicals on hand.
Everything went in circles you could say, finding yourselves in the same situation before letting Vivi off the leash. Thinking that this is an opportune time for what you came in contact with, you talk. "Mistress, while looking up clubs in the library I ran into a girl who offered to teach me some unique magic techniques. With your permission, would you permit me to attend her tutoring in the evenings? Of course, I'll be sure to ask her if you can sit in on us, Mistress, if you so desire. Furthermore, I could get the both of you acquainted at dinner tonight so you can make yourselves known."
Your mistress squinted her eyes. "I go wherever you go and you go wherever I go. Yes, I'm going with you!-- But I have to say, a girl?"
>>
Bullfighters have trained professionals to rescue people from the bulls before anything serious happens, we have magic in the setting (which means plausible healing magic to ensure she's never in true danger), and she can enjoy being a spectator while she learns about the art. It would be ideal if she could just watch bullfights all day but I think her father could understand channeling her hobbies into something that doesn't have a high chance of getting her executed. If its really that much of a worry we can write a letter asking for advice on clubs/activities he might approve.
I think that the both of you will get along nicely if you do meet. Unless... jealousy is what this is."
Vivi is quick to defend herself, "It ain't jealousy, none at all! I'm just concerned that some other woman is taking what is mine. I'll see her, and I'll examine this person myself."
"Then is that permission for me to notify her? She told me where she stays at, and I could fix an appointment right away."
"Yes, it is. This Mercedes better be quite the noblewoman to skip classes instead of me."
Knowing the given decision of your mistress, you went on to mention what you've gathered and determined. More particularly, the clubs. "For tomorrow, I will requisition a maid to help you with your gym clothes. I also want to touch upon the matter of clubs. Putting aside the ones that Mistress Sabreiyna already told, another option is smithing. How does making your own knives sound? You have more than another strength to work a forge. Speaking of clubs in general, which NPCs will join which club do you think?
Caren is in the alchemy club, Viscount will probably join some magic club or something, whatever club bitchy countness joins will be turned into her personal social parlor within a fortnight, Mercedes is never leaving her library, and I dunno about Charles.
Considering the blacksmith club was newly opened due to the funding the princes brought to the academy, maybe one of the two has an interest in it. And the school built it to cater to them? If so another reason to check it out.
You reassure Vivi, "We know each other for most of our lies. You know I'd never lie to you."
Departing from your master's presence after telling her where you're going, you make your way to the last floor of the building, stopping by Mercedes' door. Knocking upon room 825, its inhabitant soon came to your call in a couple of minutes; you thought that she would remain at the library when the answer wasn't immediate, the person herself saying that she isn't one to be orderly.
You explain to Mercedes' that your master is going to attend alongside you, the girl replying that Vivi is more than welcome to come. What's more is that she kept you at her doorstep longer than you calculated it to be, questioning certain details about Vivi to which you answer vaguely on your end. The initial idea was to uphold some kind of surprise for the both of them, but on second thought, it's because Mercedes' is asking too much. You soon end the interaction in a less than graceful way, Mercedes' finding no problem in its execution in the slightest, or perhaps, not noticing the awkwardness.
Returning back to Vivi's side, you get to business dressing her, picking out a lightweight dress-- similar to a nightgown but fitting enough for what's to come.
A few steps at the door, Vivi then questioned your lengthy absence. "What took you that long? Talking to a woman wouldn't occupy that much time, only a few minutes."
> "Miss Mercedes asked a lot about you, more than I prepared for."
"Miss Mercedes asked a lot about you, more than I prepared for."
"Like what?"
"Your appearance and personality in general, however, I do not know why. Nevertheless, let's move on, we both know that the Sun won't wait for anyone."
Guiding Vivi from out of the apartment, the two of you explore your way through the academy's campus. It's certainly different than yesterday where you escorted your mistress around during the clear, blue skies. But everything is now soaked in an orange tint, midday long gone as you know it.
After school allows the remainder of the day to be spent by one's own discretion, maintaining an ever copious crowd throughout the institution's grounds. Obviously, all the activity will die down when night inevitably rolls in. Nonetheless, the students here are given more than enough time to busy themselves in their gatherings, be it at dedicated salons or other social means.
Along with you is the club registry, neatly folded up deep inside your pocket; Vivi may finally decide to join a club today, enthusiasm well hidden under an emotionless smile. More often than not, this specific mode of hers is default, but is sometimes genuine when companionship is reminded.
The newly constructed smithy is where you lead your master first, Vivi showing a distinct interest the moment you mentioned it. Accesibility is also limited, as anyone who wants to view anything pass the walls needs to do so before eight o'clock, where the gates become locked.
Getting there yielded no complications in the end, the south wall open to the forest that rides against it. In conjuction with the tranquil life beyond the brick boundary, the scarcity of human liveliness further solidifies mother nature's influence. There's just another young man, tending to the coals inside a furnace.
The young student is lithe, mellow with a soft atmosphere around him. Although having mildy short hair, he ties it for safety reasons. When you grabbed his attention, he introduced himself as Samuel Vuglni, the one who pitched the idea of creating the club in the first place. He's not the leader per se, but manages the place; turns out that not a lot of people want to get themselves dirty in the sort of work he does. Despite the empty circumstances he is in, Samuel just swims along throughout all of it, gladly using the smithy for himself.
Samuel ungloves his hands, the piece of gear lightly scorched. "What takes you here?"
"My mistress would want to check out the facility herself. She showed some amount of interest upon hearing about it," you tell him.
"Huh, really?" he says, smiling, "Wouldn't believe that the type of girl here would be interested in this place. Your names?"
"This here is Vivi D'Roix. I'm her personal butler, Solomon, but Saul is fine too."
Unforeseen, your master walks closer to Samuel with varying degrees of confidence. "Y-You make weapons here, r-right!?"
Samuel is not perturbed, "Metalwork and all, including weapons. Have a few pieces in the back that I could show you, Madame D'Roix."
"S-Show them to me!" Vivi demanded.
Taking his time, Samuel went deep into the smithy, bringing out an array of swords and other tools for combat. Even a gun. He tells you that their duds, and is saving them for scrapping.
Vivi kneels beside the array of weaponry, delicately sliding a finger over their blades one by one. "What do you think, My Mistress?" requesting the opinion of your master.
She retrieves herself from a self-absorbing daze, "I, uh... I can definitely say that I'm satisfied with what I'm seeing. C-Can I join?"
"I'm not stopping you," says Samuel, "Always open to any additional member or two."
"Does my mistress need any requirements?" you ask him.
"I could teach her how to work here, but she'll need the appropriate wear, though, I think you already knew that," replies Samuel.
Hearing this, Vivi looks to you in earnest.
Exchanging a slight grin of your own towards your mistress, you take out the club registry form to fill, giving it to Vivi when in need of a signature. Once done, you tuck the paper inside the same pocket, planning to bring it to the main office later. You then look back up to Samuel, further asking him for supplementary information. "Is the smithy always open to its members?"
"Members of this particular club are to be given a key to the south gate," pointing to the same entrance from where you came, "Sometimes come here at night myself when I need to get busy. So yes, Madame D'Roix can."
"What does my mistress need to wear? Could you specify what appropriate clothing?"
"Anything light. The forge has its own gear to supply its members with: aprons, gloves, and other protectice equipment. Also, make sure that you tie your hair back," Samuel says to your master.
Vivi picks her head up from the weapons, completely lost, "Uh, y-yeah."
"Anything else, Saul?" Samuel questioned. "Got all the time till sundown."
You take a few seconds to think, speaking right after, "Is there anything else to this forge? It seems that it's capable of making firearms. Possibly magic items too?"
"The place can do such things. When Archenwald was given money from the capital - more than they could use or decide with - they gave the remaining amount to clubs to fund their budgets. In my case, I got this place built and fixed with supplies. Occasionally, people from the magic related clubs work in conjunction with me to create a few magic tools here and there. The only problem have is that my knowledge of both firearms and magic are limited, so I stuck with swordmaking and the like."
Saying goodbye to Samuel, you gather up your mistress from the ground who expressed a restless desire to the smithy and its works. You only need to calm her down with the prospect of coming back as a member, as you have yet to make the document official. With that said, Vivi wholeheartedly listens with hopeful eagerness, following behind you like how a child walk alongside her parent.
Your next stop was a quick visit to the main office, dropping off the registry form to the receptionist desk. Your master will be an official member of the blacksmithing club tomorrow, as the document will take overnight to be finalized. The task swiftly fulfilled, you have only a few things left on today's agenda, and soon will they be done.
Your master stops by a bench, dropping herself upon it. Stretching, she goes over the thought of Mercedes, and her impending meeting. "What does this Mercedes look like?-- Actually, no, what is she like?"
"Why ask now? Is something wrong, My Mistress?"
"I want to get some kind of idea of her since she's good enough for you to be interested in," Vivi's tone making it hard for you to discern its meaning.
It's difficult to get a bead on her, probably on purpose. Capricious, flippant, and overly cheerful I suppose? She gets to sleep in the library all day, skip classes, and may be prone to pranks. Basically most of the things you wish you could get away with in school.
"Miss Mercedes is a woman with a pair of legs, both of which reach the floor. Her head is decorated by two eyes, two ears, a mouth, and a nose. From each shoulder connects one appendage of a supposed manipulative nature," you closely detail, deadpanning thereafter in silence.
"Don't get smart with me..." Vivi murmured.
Putting a stop to the act, you give your real take on the young girl in question, "She is a knowledgeable woman I believe, although, she looks more mature than her actual age might suggest. I'm sure you will like her."
"Mature than her actual age? How old is she?"
"The same age you, My Mistress."
"Huh, that's a relief," Vivi says, releasing herself from the tenseness in her arms. She gets up from her seat and walks in front of you, grinning triumphantly for no apparent reason. "If she's sixteen as well, then I have nothing to worry. She should look like me or Caren, right?" disregarding what you meant by mature.
You sought after Master Charles, the search letting the both of you understand more of Archenwald's picture. Till now, you only limited yourselves to the dormitory and educational facilities, not taking the opportunity to appreciate the other notable areas. The garden - slightly centered on the left side of the campus - is huge, preserved within its own gated zone. Ranging from the common to the exotic, it's planted from one corner to the other, decorated for those who want to take in the view. The church was another remarkable sight, authentic in its fashion from the peninsular country to the east. Stone statues of mythological personages and figures, holy lighting, and a heavy air that is somehow replicated from the real kind. But boringly enough, this place isn't a religious gathering; nonetheless, the Canadol youth uses this place as their club's quarters.
Of course, there is more to say: another dormitory to the west wall that is in the same style to its eastern counterpart, and a miniature coliseum that functions as a theatre. Intentions of dramatical productions are already known to you, the former's uses anything but clear. You'll have to look into it some other time.
Vivi freezes in place, eyes glinting as they're locked upon a figure. Charles is in the distance, and alongside him is his maid. Deciding to correct her standing before she gets called out, you pull along your mistress, making both of your presences known to the ageless boy.
The main reason for searching for him is to put Vivi in a good mood before her scene with Mercedes, and you can only imagine the reveal.
Charles happily smiles when seeing you for the second time. "Ah, Miss D'Roix~! Glad to see you!"
"Ehehe, l-likewise. What are you doing here?" answers Vivi
"I'm just on an evening stroll. I was to return to my lodging soon until you showed up. How about you?"
"I-I was just passing the time. I'm about to meet someone for dinner and it has yet to be so... Could I pet you again~?" your mistress giving out the same odd request.
"Nnn, sure!"
Wrapping her fingers around the face and head of the marquess, she took her time feeling him like an animal. "hehehe~" she giggled, almost drooling. "The little things I can do to you."
"Are these the people that you met?" the maid beside Charles questioned, furrowing a brow to you and your master.
Charles replies, "Why yes. Is it wrong?"
"They look... Strange."
Inspecting the young girl yourself - although, it couldn't be more wrongfully timed - you catch a glare from her. Taller than Vivi by a few centimeters, her own hair is tied into two tails. A small snaggletooth, cutely cartoon-like, enhances her feline-characteristics.
"Good evening Miss. My name is Solomon, Saul for short, and this is my Mistress Vivi D'Roix, but I daresay you may know that already. I don't think me and my mistress have had the pleasure of being introduced yet...?"
"I'm Rena, Marquess Charle's maid and caretaker just like you I assume," the maid says while maintaining a steady scowl. "Tell me, is it normal for her to touch people like that?"
"No, no, only towards Master Charles. It's nothing to be worried about if it eases you to know, as she gives her affection differently than most people. I hope that both you and I know how noble girls can be when faced with things that they find desirable."
"I can agree with that, Solomon, but could she tone down the touchiness? It's creepy, and I don't want my master to be uncomfortable, let alone getting a cold."
"It's fine, Rena~" says the boy, Vivi ignorant to your conversation.
Rena glances to your master, switching her attention back to you with a hushed voice. "Not to be rude, but she looks like a ghost. How much sleep does she get?"
"The same as any other person. My mistress' skin color is from her mother's side; her family originates in the northern territories, and most of the population there are fair skinned. On the other hand, her hair and eye color is from her father's."
"So it's because of her inherent complexion. Covering herself with a parasol may induce the paleness of your master's skin as well."
Rena's scowl lightens a bit, her eyes maintaining its alertness. "Sure, just keep an eye on your own master... The way she's handling mine is..." trailing off with a judging gaze at Vivi, "Nevermind. Go on."
Bowing, you went to go fetch Vivi from the innocent Charles. Her grip refused to budge until you warned her about dinner, letting go of him gently and recomposing herself to move; her love for meat is equal to her love for killing, probably even more if you take wine in account, but that's a story better left unspoken.
After a parting wave, both parties travel down their opposing paths, Rena's returning to their original place in mind.
As originally planned, you attend the cafeteria's dining hall before Mercedes makes her appearance first, already filled with those who arrived early for their evening meals. The chandeliers that hang under the ceiling - previously dormant during the day - are now turned on in a vigorous glow, fixing the refined environment with a lavish atmosphere that only highly regarded restaurants can achieve. The blackening night adds to the effect, illumination warming up the air while the cold winds outside are held away by heavy doors. It's a sharp contrast from the calmness of your initial setting, the energy here stirring up the future nobility, thoroughly getting themselves familiar with decadence. Your master, Vivi, may need this feel for upcoming events.
Taking up an empty table in the back of the hall, you keep a lookout for your guest, the clock finally ticking to five. And on queue, you see her person entering through the doors. Vivi soon turns herself to Mercedes' general direction, taking a long, emotionless stare. Her outfit changed from when you last met, a basic dress that wraps around her features instead of a baggy uniform, accentuating what Vivi lacks as a woman. Still, her gaze is mindless, all until Mercedes takes her seat.
Vivi faintly calls your name, "S-Saul."
"Yes, My Mistress?"
"She sixteen, right?"
"Undoubtedly, at least, that's what I have discerned."
Mercedes' face is that of puzzlement, switching her attention between the two of you. "Hmm~? Is something wrong?"
You say nothing, holding up an awry expression. Vivi, however, wills herself to speak to the common Pygmalion's idol. "How much milk did you drink?.."
Mercedes' tilts her head, giving a delayed answer, "I never drank milk."
"O-Oh..." Vivi stutters with a blush, her smirk shaking as it fails to maintain a proper stillness. She then looks to you crazily, "N-Nice catch!"
"I knew you'd like her, but this is unexpected," you remark.
"With a body like that, I can't imagine how soft she is. This only proves that some god exist, and he or she let this be created! Could we bring her--"
You cut Vivi off, the initial half of her sentence entailing what she meant, "-- Sorry, but that's not an option. And who knows if some higher power is present in the world, maybe Miss Mercedes is just here to show you what you are not."
"I-I wouldn't mind, what matters is that I have the real thing in front of me-- excluding my mother."
Calling a waiter over to your table, the two girls gave their orders for the night, finding that the both of them share the same taste in food. Despite the rudeness that your master displayed, Mercedes paid no mind, and in fact, appears to have enjoyed it.
"You must be Madame D'Roix I suppose. Like Sweetie said, I'm Mercedes; we ran into each other in quite the way~"
"It's a pleasure to m-meet you too! Tell me, what family do you belong to, I'd love to know that you have a sister or two. A twin maybe?!" Vivi shoots off, powering through her usual stuttering.
Mercedes gestures, putting a finger onto her lip, "Hmm, I don't have any other sister that I know of. And sorry to disappoint, I'm not a noble, Darling~"
"E-Even better! No one would make a fuss if I take--"
"-- Moving on, how was the rest of your day?" you interrupt.
" 'Twas fine, Sweetie. Took a long nap so I could have enough energy to attend."
"A long nap? From about 1 o'clock to now?"
"Yup! It isn't anything normal, you saw me how I was in the library. I would like to know if we are to travel to my room as well, unless you changed your mind on that."
"Don't worry, we'll still follow you to your quarters. The only thing that was unplanned for was this appointment."
"Ahem-- To mention, I was the one who suggested it, don't forget Saul," commented Vivi. "By the way, Mercedes, are you comfortable?... Y-Your dress looks a bit too snug."
This. Seems like her emotional range only has three main modes and they are kill, normal or lust.
"What else do you do besides sleeping and reading, Miss Mercedes?" ignoring - or trying to ignore - what she just did.
"Not much if those things are excluded from everyday life," thinking long and hard. "... I could say that experimenting with my magic is one, little things to a journal's pages that won't blow up the room that I stay in. Could do something else with it if I can actually wake up in proper time."
"That's all you do? What about before coming here?"
"I guess I did get lazy upon arriving here-- the luxuriousness of it all is heavy in its influence, and I have grown into it quite quickly. Was like any other girl in my hometown, weaving, farming, and sometimes doing factory work when I needed the extra coin. But the last one didn't stick we me. Ah, yes~!," Mercedes then exclaimed, remembering another detail, "Used to help out in my local church, even though I'm not religious. Nonetheless, that didn't matter, as the people there were sweet. I did bring along another outfit from them, a dress that's fashioned after a female's church garb. Strangely though, wearing it draws more attention than I'm used to. Maybe I should've wore that for tonight instead."
"You're fine as is," you say.
The conversation had kept Vivi quiet up to this point, recommunicating with the floaty girl that sits across from her. "Saul said that you skip classes a lot, or that's what he heard from around the academy. Is it not a problem?"
"No, not at all," Mercedes responded. "The academy will let me stay as long as I supply them with a few examples of my skills: a few notes or a small magic trinket. The headmaster is especially lax with how I do things."
"Y-You're in contact with him?"
"Somewhat. At times he comes to me directly, but mostly a staff member would come in his place. I do plan to attend P.E. more often, perhaps soon."
We need to lay the groundwork for Mercedes and Caren to be introduced to each other, so that Vivu can interact with both of them at the same time. And also we need tk bring Vivi into the convo more. What are the chances Caren is having an early dinner today? If she shows up maybe we can invite her to sit with us.
Good point, we gotta claim her for Team Vivi now while the school year is early - otherwise she might get incoporated into someone else's cliche.
If the convo turns to Caren, maybe bring up that she also has an interest in magic - namely alchemy. Does all her time spent studying(?) mean that Mercedes has aquired some knowledge of any other magical schools such as alchemy, or does she mainly stick to perfecting her magical 'forte'? (AKA Keys, but it would be bad to actually name the technique in such a public place)
Maybe open the conversation with this. Then like >>3148764 mention asks if Mercedes even has an interest in other, non-Key related, magical schools. Are the magical magic club barking up the wrong tree with trying to recruit her.
I also just saw that she mentions magical trinkets. Saul could use that as an opening to go, oh, what sorts? Similar to what the alchemy club comes up with? And then since the topic of alchemy has been brough up mention Caren's interest in it.
"From what I hear, the black magic club appears to have their heart set on recruiting you. I must ask, are they truly as strange as the rumors say?" wanting to know Mercedes' relationship with the supposedly 'shady' group.
"My run-ins with the club were nothing out of the ordinary, and I've never seen the club room itself, just the members. For the last half of the week they offered me to join them, stopping once the Canadol members got themselves in a scuffle of sorts yesterday-- I believe that they'll return sometime, that's what I think since they are a determined bunch. It was a funny sight, a witch versus a priestess along with their accompanying entourage. The two of them showed a strong, rivalry in their zeal."
"Your account is certainly bizarre, Miss Mercedes," you say, mostly because of how she interpreted it. "It's better to hear it from the one in question nevertheless, but I'll have to wait for more news about these groups before I can form a clear opinion for myself. That aside, I have another thing on my mind. If you do decide to attend physical education classes, perhaps we could introduce you to another acquaintance of my mistress, Madam Saneiybra-- or Caren if it's easier for you to say. They both had a rather spirited competition earlier in P.E, and I 'm surprised that there is another girl at this academy that possesses a level of fitness similar to Madam D'Roix here. Speaking of Miss Caren, Mistress, what antics did you two get to after I left?" you directed to Vivi.
"Us? We tired ourselves out and took a break. The rest of the class was spent that way until I had to walk back to my apartment," your master replied, bringing up noon's mishap.
"Now that the thought has been brought up, Miss Caren did have an interest in the magical arts, specifically alchemy. Do you know any different practices or forms of magic, Miss Mercedes? Or are you focused on only your own?"
"I keep to my own strengths.," Mercedes told. "Remembering chants was never my forte, so I resort to using letters and symbols for invocation. It pairs nicely with what I specialize too. This Caren sounds fun to be with, and I do hope that you can bring me to her in the future, Darling," she requested with your master in mind.
"I'd love to," Vivi entertained. "When will you make yourself known to the field? I cannot do it without knowing your schedule or idea when."
"If I try, I'll be there tomorrow. If not, expect to see me the day after."
Soon, the mistresses' food are served before them, you yourself handling the dishes and silverware from the original waiter. Upon sitting back down, you then notice an additional round of drinks for Vivi and Mercedes. "Peculiar" is what you thought, as the liquid appears much more different than prime juice, but hard to point out why.
Putting the glass off to the side, you warn Vivi and Mercedes, "Ladies, I wouldn't drink the second round of beverages. Please ignore them for the ones that you did order."
"Why?" questioned Vivi.
"It's wine, and even though you had a few licks of it in the past, My Mistress - those of which turned out... messy - I wouldn't say the same thing for Mercedes. For all I know, she could be worse when drunk."
Said girl examines the alcoholic drink, swirling it in within a hand for her to leave it alone right after. "Was wondering why we got a couple more glasses, we also don't remember ordering these at all."
Leaving the table, you seek the same waiter that you came to a minute ago, finding him. He didn't do it on his own accord, as it was another person who ordered them for you.
Since Saul generally can't watch over both girls at once while they're knocked out, it would let some stock villainous and high ranking rapey noble have his (or her if you really wanna go the Yuri route) way with one of the girls (presumably Mercedes since you'd obviously prioritize Vivi) Since Mercedes is a commoner they'd assume she's unimportant enough that there's nothing she can do about it after the fact.
The waiter recollects the person's identity, a young, blonde man who seemed to be drunk himself. Along with him was a girl of the same age and hair color, but of clear conscious. Upon seeing Mercedes' figure, he ordered her table the same wine that he had; however, the girl was the one who initiated the idea, suggesting something into the boy's ear, undisclosed from the waiter. The two of them then departed after his brother came to fetch him, indifferent to the situation as it looked to be a common occurrence for the young man.
Thanking the waiter, you return back to your company, filling Vivi and Mercedes the details of the story. They didn't see it as alarming, and more as a silly whim of the nameless boy and girl.
Vivi takes a hold of the wine glass that has yet to be done with by anybody. "One sip shouldn't be that bad, right, Saul? Mercedes could probably handle it too."
>>3149128
The presense of who I assume is the Countess complicate things a LOT
Let's assume that this IS the Prince, and in his blind drunk state he's let slip that he's interested in the one common girl in the academy.
Would the Countess be sneaky enough to bait him into sending this Commoner some of that lovely wine he's been having as a token of interest - knowing full well that
A) the recipient might interpret the gesture as a threat like we've done
or B) the unwitting recipient might down it (what does a COMMON girl know about wine anyway) and then either make a massive drunk scene or wake up with a hangover
Either option would mean that the recipient will NOT see the sender in a good light, and will avoid probably avoid him like the plague if he revealled he sent it. Essentially scaring the commoner away from the prince who is legitimately interested in her.
Or yeah the prince could be a jerk wanting to punk the commoner. We dunno yet.
>>
>>3149132
>but the waiter should have easily recognized them if they were?
Maybe not. This isn't the modern era where the faces of everyone rich and famous are splashed all over social media. A waiter who doesn't move in the same social circles as the Prince (or comes from the countryside) might not recongise the Prince at first glance, let alone a blind drunk one. Same goes for the girl.
It's only the second day of school as well, so it's not there's been time for the staff to be gossiping about notable students either
You misunderstand. (Sorry about that. it's my fault for not being clear) This is self defense and even if we're wrong we got bonding time between the two girls. I meant it in a booby trap the room to hit anyone trying to prank us with a prank instead.
If somebody breaks into Mercedes's room (assuming they aren't aiming for Vivi's.) We could have a fake puppet of Mercedes in the bed that suddenly flies in the air vomiting blood everywhere to make whatever lackeys are forced into the job faint or scream in terror while fleeing from the room.
As a bonus we could then quickly use our years of experience to clean everything up before the girl can look like something other than a crazy lunatic.
I don't know the tech level so I can't say anything about recording devices.
We also obviously lack the time to get enough blood so everyone's gonna have to be creative with this or illusion magic.
We could thicken a bottle of wine via rune to make it seem like blood when whatever pranker breaks into the room? This is obviously an experiment we have to do to see if ti works but maybe the wine would return to it's normal state the longer it's out the bottle?
Then the girl screaming through the hallways with a bunch of wine on her dress looks like a drunkard?
Maybe instead of making a mean sprited prank like that, Mercedes first demontration of Key's to Saul and Vivi is how to utilise them to defend a room?
I'm against any sort of overt retaliation (like the fake blood things you're describing), until we get a better idea of what's going on her. Besides, any noble worth their salt will hire someone to do the breaking and entering for them. We're only going to be catching a random grunt with fake blood, and even then the prank itself could damage Vivi and Mercedes reputation ("did you hear that the crazy executioner and her common lacky are playing with fake blood after hours an tarnishing our school's good name, how boorish")
The night progressing at a steady pace, you all talk about the strange happening for a while, gossip between the three of you. "The waiter told me that the wine was ordered to be sent to our table by a young man - accompanied by a much blonde girl - once he laid eyes on you, Miss Mercedes. A friend encouraging another to express their attraction perhaps? What do you two ladies think?"
"You said that the girl is blonde, yes? Any other characteristics for a clearer description?" interrogated Mercedes.
"Well, the last thing he said about her is that she's the same age as the boy, nothing else. Have any ideas?"
"There's a sea of blondes even beyond the academy, and I can't track every one of them that I meet." commented Vivi. "Whoever this may be, I don't see why a person would have a problem with the D'Roix household, as I haven't interacted with many people. Any guesses yourself, Mercedes?"
"There's one notable girl, but I doubt that she has anything to do with this," Mercedes' insight costing unreliability. In a natural way - or maybe habitually - she shrugs it off in the end, "I wouldn't take this accident too seriously. He was drunk without our knowledge, and I doubt that a girl is skilled enough to hide some drug of sorts, more so when the waiter didn't go to them for a second time."
You're all left wondering, the matter's conclusion assumed to be a young noble's folly. It has happened before-- nothing new for the world, but the lingering thought of the girl's personage is stuck in a head's limbo. What's more is why she might've did it for: maybe a simply miscalculation? Or something more manipulative? It just opens into a longer train of thought.
Overthinking is fun.
>>3149179
I thought of that, but then I considered they might find the prank idea more fun and something to bond over. Vivi would like thinking up the terror tactics and Mercedes seems at least a little mischievous when it comes to pranks so they'd both enjoy the end result.
I'm personally not the type that enjoys pranks but I don't find the idea of spooking the bullies when they're actually in the middle of trying to get you (or at least broke into your room) as something that's too mean spirited. Actually harming them is when the line gets crossed.
I am more than open to other ways of messing with anyone breaking into the rooms.
A grunt would actually be something worth apprehending the person in question for the police since they broke into a teenage girl's room in the middle of the night. So a tar and feathering, then chaining them to a post with the word pervert written on a sign, and the local constabulary coming in to apprehend the offender?
Long after leaving the dining hall, you finally return to what was expected to be, following Mercedes to her apartment. The lulling moon in the black sky sets the stage for the unknown, what you're doing now partaking in that definition. Behind you, with small steps that patter like rain drops, is Vivi, her energy seemingly inexhaustible at the moment. She hums along the way that echoes of the dormitory's masonry, the clacking of all of your shoes adding to the faint chorus at the stairs.
Mercedes' room lacked the fullness that the average students here at Archenwald has, alternatively cabin-like in its features and all around homely for anyone who enters. The back quarters that was suppose to serve as a maid or butler's living space is used as a storage room, its items organized neatly inside in spite of the remaining space that's left. In the main room, a bookshelf sits in the corner with three of its shelves stuff with manuscripts and papers; most them are from the library while the remaining few are the young girl's own. The shelves that are absent of old archives or published stories is strewn with odd curios instead, most having keys written upon them in one form or another.
"Now that we're here, let's get started , shall we?" proclaimed Mercedes, taking out her journal and an odd book from a shelf. "You can put the wine bottle underneath the table here, Sweetie."
Exacting her orders, you rest the wine by the foot of a chair, Vivi taking her place at your side with your seats linked together.
Mercedes opens the two books in front of her, "As a starter, what do you want to know?"
Talking to others through thought, might help us talk to vivi easier.
She said that enhancing humans was much harder than items. Walk before you can run and all.
Besides, we can use what we learn to augment the shiny new knives Vivi will make at blacksmithing club.
Maybe with an emphasis on security (like making a door unable to open) for tonight
>>
>>3149277
The unbreakable spell that she showed us on the beginning should be useful then.
>>
>>3149304
You don't usually break the actual door to get past it. I was thinking something like a spell of some sort that would make the door itself be stuck closed until you wipe the rune off.
TLDR make the actual rune into a lock?
>>
>>3149329
You don't need a enchantment for that, just leave the key in the lock after you close it
>>
>>3149345
but that wouldn't work if you leave for classes. Maybe a combination of runes could work. One that makes everything stronger and other that "freezes" all the objects selected; with that setup you'd only have to alterate the freeze rune to permit the free movement of the lock mechanism anld allow the key to open the door.
"Could you you show us something easy, such as enhancing items and the like?"
"No problem, just look and listen carefully. You'll need to get a hang of writing keys as well."
Mercedes starts the lesson, beginning by teaching you the basics of a key's construction. It took a handful of time for you to understand their composition and theory, Vivi keeping up with you somehow. It must've taken thirty minutes when looking back upon it, the information settling inside your heads.
Next, Mercedes shows of one of her trinkets, explaining its function and how the key's magic circle enables it to do so. This part of the session is easier for the both of you, as the basics of this unique type of magic starts to make sense at the expense of a few hours. As a makeshift test, Mercedes gives you a scrap of paper, wanting you to strengthen the material through ink.
Somebody skilled enough to break into the noble's dorm probably isn't going to be stopped by that. Nobles would just leave their keys in the doors all the time as a security precaution if it was that simple.
You successfully replicate Mercedes' spell, copying the reinforced strength of the paper just like what she did in the library. Vivi needed help on her side however, joining you in completion when you helped her out on the circle's construction. You seem to grasp the order and anatomy of the spells, while your master is more in tune with its theory and logic, finding yourselves on opposite sides of a coin. Nonetheless, your mock teacher is happy that you got it right.
"Great~! Of course, there are a few imperfections, but it still accomplishes what it's meant to do," she congratulated.
To make certain that you and your master got the art down, Mercedes continues to instruct one different type of key in a cycle, exercising memory and flow. After going through all that practice, you determine that keys are as complex as runes, shown by its mysterious age, methods, and effects.
"It looks like you got all the necessary training down, Sweetie~ You too, Darling D'Roix~" complimented Mercedes.
"Ugh... No more-- So many symbols!" complained Vivi, slouched over the edge of the table.
Mercedes pats her head, "No biggie, it's just like math. You'll get the hang of it. Is there anything that you'd like try, Sweetie?" now talking to you.
"We'll call it a night, Miss Mercedes. Teaching us this had occupied ourselves for nearly and hour or two, and it's almost 10:25 already. Just make yourselves comfy while I get the wine ready," you say, going off ahead.
"How nice~ We'll be waiting then," Mercedes responded, cleaning up the table for further usage.
Vivi gets out of her seat as well, sitting on the bed until the second that Mercedes finishes up. Now relieved of the sores on her behind, she gathers her tired voice into a demand. "Just when I thought that it'll never end. Hurry with wine, as I think I've done enough waiting with that temptation by your foot during all this time."
"On it, My Mistress," you droned.
The absent presence of the two lively ladies allows you to ready the wine, diluting the alcohol to a point that's deemed to be appropriate for the young girls. They wouldn't notice the thinness of it, at least, not Vivi; but Mercedes hasn't shown any particular expertise in these kinds of drinks, and her personality surely doesn't show her to be. The thought makes you want to water it down some more, but ultimately, you didn't. Anymore and it'll ruin the intoxicating beverage.
Returned, you fill up the glasses for both your master and hostess, telling them that you'll supply them with an additional cup if they wish for it-- or if the bottle runs dry. For now, you stand by, letting them enjoy their company in the warm, sleep-inducing room. Maybe you'll ask Mercedes to do a trick, she ought to have something under her sleeves.
A glance to a half covered window reveals the ever so silent night, human activity ceasing in all forms across the campus grounds in a deadening stagnation. The picture draws a widening gap between it and the two women at your side, gradually drinking themselves into a stupor with an increased vice, such emotions being directed to their current lifestyle and the consumption of their cups' contents; sluggishly you might add, as the diluted wine's effects has been stunted.
They will not achieve a full state of drunkenness with one bottle alone, and you prove yourself to be happy with the fact. So worry not, as these young women are to be kept in but a buzz for the rest of the night. That is, if their unclear judgement doesn't lead them to an unwanted situation.
Your master's cheeks are slightly hued in pink, Mercedes' - who is sitting beside her in an influenced, informal feel - being redder in comparison. Their wits muffled to a low degree, they cut loose, passing along the interaction from one another. Eventually, Vivi talked of any tricks that Mercedes might have herself. After all, she has been surrounded in the art of keys longer than anyone else here-- and possibility, the only one in the country.
"Got any small shows? Would love to see one or two from you," asked Vivi. "Saul here has entertained me once with magic, and I find faith that you can offer the same, if not better. You do hold a promising ability whose effects could be changed into a little party trick," surmising the idea to the peer next to her.
"There's no doubt about that, Darling~ I can show off once or twice for tonight~" Mercedes then holds the glass to you, "I would love another glass, Sweetie."
You shake the bottle, "It's empty, but do carry on with what you had in mind."
"Hmm~ No matter. That just means we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly."
Getting up from her chair, Mercedes grabs her journal again-- actually one of ten that sits inside her bookshelf. Hastily, she flipped the pages, her bang rocking to and fro to the displaced air.
"What would you prefer for the moment? Guest's choice, Darling," offered the lazy girl.
Vivi thought long about it, drinking the remaining amount of wine in her glass. The alcohol has now succeeded to flush her cheeks. Carefully, you have your eyes on your master while her choice pends. When she comes up with an answer, she shows a idiotic smile that hinted at Mercedes' womanly body.
Vivi's impish smile continues to persist. "I-Is it possible that you can make me, oh I don't know... l-like you?-- Not exactly like like you, but your features. My eyes struggle to detach themselves from your body, and it upsets a huge part of my fantasies. I must take this opportunity to simply say further~!"
You look at her coldly, not out of disappointment, but out of astonishment. Yes, Vivi can be bold, however, not this brash. You have to repeat the sentence in your head for a few more times until you can fully grasp the meaning behind it, despite it being loud and clear from your master's mouth.
On the other hand, Mercedes is not perturbed in the slightest when faced with the suggested 'trick', laughing loudly at the petite noble. It was almost maniacal, pushing her to re-explore her notes, and additionally, her older manuals. "Fufu~ Darling, can you pull up your sleeve? Either one is fine."
"What are you going to do, Miss Mercedes?" you raised, due to your concern about what's to develop.
"I'm going to draw on your mistress' arm. It'll take a short while to complete, so don't worry," Mercedes, taking out a thick brush along with a small bottle of viscous-looking ink. "Now, I must tell you that the keys will wash off after about four baths. So if you want, Darling, you can come over to me periodically."
Mercedes' estimation of the magic circle's construction was not an overstatement. The two-dimensional sigil was completed with all the complimentary marks and symbols in under half a clock's intervals, perfectly arranged and sprawling with a defined design. From looking afar, your mistress looks to be a victim of some curse, contrasted by her anticipating smirk.
The magician of the room soon activates the key, every segment within the mark's borders spiraling rapidly till Vivi's body is overtaken by a dark light. The process was a brief flash, yet vivid in your memory, your eyes blinking at what has been altered.
Describing Vivi's transformation twists your tongue at an utterance, the bewilderment deepening into a burrow upon your mind.
Your mistress' new form resembles her mother in many ways, uncannily so, fulfilling the second half of their likeness into the daughter. Her height now reaches below your chin where she previously reached to your chest, Vivi's body now sporting the same curvaceousness as Mercedes'. Unfortunately, her clothes couldn't keep up with the sudden change of its wearer, suffering under the same strain that Mercedes is indifferent to.
Vivi starts to giggle, eventually turning into a full on holler of that of a romanticized villainess. "I-it worked! It really did!"
Mercedes claps at her accomplishment, mechanical, for the alcohol still plagues a part of her autonomy. "You look great, Darling. People may take you for a third-year, or even a graduate. But I must mention that if the key was wrong, you would've turned into a ten year old-- All is swell though~"
Creating a key to contain one's future picture is on the illogical plane of the spell. For all we know, this version of Vivi never exist in time, rather than what is already recorded into the earth.
Vivi rushes to you, almost tripping over herself. "Mo~ I'm still shorter than you," she complained. "Nevermind that, h-how do I look?"
Support. Though I can't believe Saul managed to make Vivi's dream of having big tiddies come true in a single day, he truely is the best butler.
We definitely need to find Charles tomorrow, just so Vivi can smush his face into her new tits while petting him. You know she'll jump at the chance.
Hey wait, if Mercedes can turn our washboard master into a busty beauty, does that mean she can possibly change Charles from a shota into the silver haired bishonen he was always mean to be? We totally need to get Vivi to introduce Mercedes to Charles now.
>>
>>3150671
I can't imagine her new large chest being comfortable since it did not grew gradually like normal.
>>
>>3150684
Also I can totally see either the black magic club or Mercedes mysterious admirer who may-or-may-not be-the-Prince to mistake this new Vivi for Mercedes herself. Since Mercedes most defining characteristics are 'black hair' and 'boobs", both of which Vivi has now.
If this new Vivi tracks down Charles like others were suggesting and bumps into the Princes while doing so I'm gonna laugh and laugh.
>>
>>3150693
At least the spell washes off in 2 days.
>>
Do u think a similar spell will work on Saul if he has to impersonate Vivi to protect or help her?
>>
>>3150711
Probably. But if he wanted to impersonate Vivi completely Saul really needs a key become shorter, since he pretty much towers over Vivi right now. Maybe a key to turn his eyes red too and he's done.
Also has Mercedes done the key so it fades after four washes - if needs be we can remove in a day if Vivi bathes four times. Otherwise it's probably gonna last for 4 (bathes once a day, doesn't kill anything) or less days.
>>
>>3150711
Given that the spell was described as containing one's future picture, I'd think it'd more likely turn Saul into an older version of himself rather than Vivi. Though that too might have its uses.
>>
>>3150741
>Older version of themselves
Oh shit I missed that. Then it seems all of Vivi's milk drinking actually pays off, wow.
Also Charles turning into a bishonen if Mercedes ever gets to work her magic on him is might still in the cards then, nice. Im assuming the potion his mother drank just severely slowed down his natural aging process.
>>
>>3151687
Seems like a bad idea.
We're a guy so we'd probably grow much more and ruin our clothes.
A guy leaving a of girls room with a bunch of clothes that have been clearly torn off of his body in some manner is going to get noticed.
There's also the troublesome prospect of the future self including futures where you're dead.
>>
>>3151721
Usually boys reach their max height around age 16 so we shouldn't see any kind of major differences from now.
>Spoiler
The way mercedes said how the spell works makes it seem like it doesn't matters if we are dead or alive, since we'll look like our future selves and since the future hasn't been made, i'm betting that mercedes is unconsciously choosing the alive versions of us or it defaults to that in automatic, or there is some other factor we know, since she also said that we could end up looking like a 10 year old.
