/qst/ - Quests

You awake in a darkened room lit by candlelight. The first thing you notice is how sore, and cold, you are. You are naked, a surgical scar runs the length of your pale torso. On the floor beneath you is a complex magic circle, like something out of a fantasy novel. As you move to sit up you notice an attractive young woman looking over you intently. She snaps her fingers in front of your face a couple times then slaps you across the face.. hard.

"Ow, Fuck! What was that for?" She looks relieved at your reaction. "You can speak! Good, very good. Many of you fail to retain your wits after the resurrection. I'm in need someone who can follow orders more complicated than one word commands." She gets up and walks to the other side of the room. Fetching something from within a desk. "There's some clothes on the table behind you, get dressed, then we can talk."

Looking down at your scar you realize how shoddy the work looks, did she do this herself? It will be a wonder if you don't die of infection in a week. "Why did you cut me?" She sighs, "I do hope you aren't going to be difficult, there will be a lot to learn in the coming days and I can't hand hold you the whole time. To answer your question, I cut you because I needed to remove some of your organs, and add in a few other things." Fucking what? She took out your organs? You want to ask more questions but your already in a disarming situation enough, you figure you should at least get dressed before demanding more information. Looking at the clothes laid out you see a pair of sneakers, some jeans, a t-shirt with the logo a band you've never heard of and a black hoodie. "What's with the goth look? It's not 2002 anymore." Despite your complaints, you hurriedly get dressed and turn to face her. She snaps shut a book she was reading and looks up at you. "Right! Now time is something of a factor but I should be able to answer a few questions before I send you on your first errand. Ask away."

This looks interesting, will follow. Anyway,

>My organs?! What do you mean you took my organs?! Oh, God, is this about that debt to Don Alfonso?!

She obviously wants to go the goth necromancy route with the black clothing and stuff, so let's ruin her fun with mood-ruining cartoonish one-liners.

You might be panicking a little bit. "Where am I? Who are you? Why in the sweet FUCK did you take my organs?" That last question came off a little more afraid than you had wanted to show."

The woman seems completely unfazed however. "In that order. You are inside of an abandoned building that I use as my laboratory. I am a practitioner of the Art. Someone you may call a witch or a mage. I took out your organs in order to preform the preparations necessary to resurrect your corpse."

"My corpse?"

"Indeed you died a few days ago, not sure why. Wasn't very relevant. Anyway your body was found in a ditch outside of town. No ID, no relatives, The kind of corpse who no one would care if it went missing. Shortly after a friend contacted me asking if I wanted to buy the body and voila here you are."

"Don Alfonso probably had something to do with this.." You mutter.

She chooses to ignore your comment. "Anyway my name is Lysandra, but you can call me Lisa."
You're not sure if you believe any of this but you decide to go with it for now. "Okay Lisa, why am I your Frankenstein? Am I supposed to go terrorize helpless villagers or something?"

Lisa frowns a bit at that. She doesn't seem to have much in the way of a sense of humor. "I have a job I need done, and you will do it for me."

"Why would I do anything to help you?"

Lisa reaches behind her and grabs a hold of a small glass jar, inside is a human heart. You think you see it beating.
"As we've discussed, you are currently dead, well undead. You won't stay that way forever though. Without my assistance your body will begin to rot. Gasses will build up in your intestines, bugs will naw on your insides, you'll slowly die over the course of a few weeks, helpless. It's not a good way to go." Lisa speaks with a deathly serious tone. "So I'm asking again, will you do this errand for me?"

>Fuck me, alright just... put that thing away

You try to remember what your life was like before this, you don't remember much but what you do remember is... unpleasant. Many nights were spent out on the streets, drinking to till you can't feel the cold. Borrowing money from people you don't want to borrow money from. It's a wonder you managed to bring a sense of humor with you into the afterlife.

"I probably drank enough the night I died to embalm myself but fine, let's say I am on borrowed time. What's in it for me if I do go along? I see a stick but where's the carrot? I died once already, I might just go ahead and do it again.

Lisa looks at you and sees your not bluffing "Do you know who the Moroni family is?"

"The guys who own half the city? New money, right? Came into a huge fortune from almost nothing."

Lisa replies, "That very one yes, they were backed by a powerful magical organization, people who could bend the rules of reality, so that things could always fall in your favor. People who make sure they always come out on top."

You aren't stupid, you can see the implication "So what, I help you and you make me a real estate millionaire?"

Lisa cracks a smile at that, "Nothing so base, the Moroni's are a puppet. It's us who pull the strings. Over the past century we've been influencing the world in subtle ways, stacking the deck so things always fall in our favor. Politics, buisiness, media. It's slowly been falling into the grasp of those who practice the Art. Magical families, competing for power, shaping the world to their will."

"So what you guys are like a new world order. Harry Potter and the rise of the Illuminati?"

"Think about it, with my aid you could be immortal. Sitting right beside me as we rise to power. You could have whatever. you. wanted." She lets that last word hang in the air.

>Okay, I'm in

"Okay, this is sounding pretty good. But don't think I'm jumping for joy about this situation, I still don't trust you as half as far as I can throw you but I'm in for now. What is this errand you want done."

Lisa smiles like she knew your answer before you said it. "That's fine, I think the results will speak for themselves. In time you'll see you made the right choice."

The smile disappears, "On to business, I need you to kill a man."

She fishes a smartphone out of her pocket and tosses it to you. You see a few photos of a man with short dark hair and some kind of rune tattooed on the side of his face.

"He's hiding out in motel room, the address and some other information is in the notes on the phone. Try not to get caught. One more thing. As a revenant you have physical capabilities beyond that of normal humans but I can offer you a magical blessing that will enhance some of your abilities even more."

>Stealth +1
New ability [Shadow Blend] In the darkness, when you don't move, you seem to merge with the shadows themselves becoming all but invisible.

Lisa etches a symbol into your skin with a ceremonial dagger of some kind. It should hurt but it doesn't, you aren't sure if that's because of your zombie powers or her magic, but you don't really care that much. After it's done she gives you some change for the bus fare and sends you on your way.

During the ride over you look over the info on the phone, it's light on details about who this guy is or why Lisa wants him dead, must be above your pay grade. What we do know is this guy is likely armed, and has some kind of rudimentary security. A familiar in the form of a crow who watches his back, we'll have to be careful to not get stopped by this stupid bird.

Before you know it you are at your stop, the Motel is just a block away, how do we want to approach this?

We should grab a master key from reception.
>>
>>3138663
So many possibilities. Do we have anything that could set us apart from normal guys, glowing eyes, perhaps? If not then we should be able to pretend to be buying a room, but there's always the possibility that this guy can sense undead or something. If possible, could we find out which room the guy's in, mug a homeless person for room money and get the room next to the target's? We could set up a trap very easily.
>>
>>3138663

You circle around the building, without getting close enough to be seen you scope out the area. It's a normal motel with reception up by the entrance, outdoor entrances surrounding the outside of the building. You could try and sweet-talk your way into the reception, talk up some bullshit then swipe the master key when they're not looking. Or just sneak right up to the room and kick the door in, you figure you're strong enough. That would be noisy, You'd have to get in and out fast. We still haven't seen that fucking bird.

As sneak into the reception you notice that it is empty at first, you look around for the keys but find nothing, however you notice the door to the back room is open a crack and you peek inside.

A overweight man in 30s has his back to you. Sitting down at computer with his pants around his ankles, he's watching what appears to be hentai. Looking around the room you see that the keys are hanging from a bracket just across the room.
Expertly you sneak across and try to grab the keys with a ninja swipe.

Unfortunately you are not quite used to how fast you are now, as you go to swipe the keys you end up pulling the entire bracket down onto the floor with a CRASH.

The man whips around in his chair absolutely terrified. The two of you stair at one another for a couple seconds.

You charge forward and deliver a straight punch before he finishes his sentence. Again you don't realize how powerful you are. His nose collapses with a crunch as he's knocked out of the chair and through his computer monitor. The "AIEEEE" of the screaming hentai girl is silenced as his head smashes against the drywall, leaving a dent.

The man is unconcious, or dead. You're not really sure.

So much for clandestine, but hey, you have the key.

As you lie in wait you hear a noise from the bathroom. Anguished screaming. Looking at the takeout boxes on the floor you assume he must have gotten the spicy noodles, that is, until you see the blood pooling from underneath the door. The screaming becomes more guttural, animal-like. Suddenly the door to the bathroom flies off the frame sailing into the wall. Out of the bathroom stumbles your target, you think...

He's some sort of Kronenburg monstrosity. His body is covered in fleshy tumors, you can only barely make out the remnant of the tattoo on the side of his face. He stumbles out of the bathroom wailing and beating on the walls of the motel room like an animal.

You bust out of the closet and punch as hard as you can, you were holding back before but something tells you this guy isn't gonna go down easy.
Your punch lands right in his shoulder. Literally, as in your fist sinks into his flesh as if it were some kind play-doh. Gross. At first he doesn't even seem to feel it. You yank outwards and pull your arm out of his body, taking a chunk of flesh with it. He feels that one. Rearing back with a guttural roar, he goes to swipe at you.

You get ready to doge but you didn't expect such a big guy to move so fast. His swipe manages to sweep you clean off your feet and crush you against the wall. You think you feel ribs crack, blood and spittle fly from your mouth. You think one of your lungs has collapsed, it's a good thing you don't breath anymore. You can't take another hit like that, you're gonna have to end this fight quick.

You are pinned against the wall by a horrifying monstrosity, do you?

You're pretty sure if you don't get out of this situation you're going to die... or well... you know what you mean. It's this kinds of situations where you tend to do stupid shit, lucky for you that stupid shit seems to work out. unable to move your arms you have to fall back on your mouth. You're a zombie right? Just bite this guy. As you open your mouth some sort of instinct takes over, you open your mouth wide, REALLY wide.

[Unhinge Jaw] Learned

You had only planned to tear a chunk out of his arm but somehow you get your mouth around his entire wrist. You bite down and snap it clean off. While strong, whatever this guy is made of seems really soft. The thing pulls back from you in pain and you sink to the floor, spitting out the bubblegum flesh and stagger to your feet, ready for round two.

This guy is stronger and faster than you, but you can rip him apart with your bare hands. You know that you have to finish this fight fast so you decide to go for the kill. You charge at him full bore, dodging past his clumsy swipe, ripping chunks of flesh from his body as you climb up to his weak point, the neck.

Bearing your teeth and opening wide, you let out a growl. You didn't mean to do that did you? Weird. Anyway you chomp down on his neck and rip it open wide. Some foul-smelling pink fluid gushes from the wound. He's hurting something fierce but he's still up.

Wrapping his arms around you in a bear hug you realize what's happening. His body is absorbing you into itself. You do not want to find out what happens if he completely absorbs you.

Crit fail on defense
Success on attack

You fight like a wild animal, using all of your strength to bust this guy apart from the inside out. As you fight you start to realize something about the foul smelling liquid, it burns, like some kind of horrible acid, the core of the beast seems to be full of the stuff. It coats your body and face and burns white hot. You imagine the pain would knock you unconscious if you were still human. As it is it makes fighting that much more difficult.

Just as you feel your body start to give out though, your hand grabs hold of something solid in the core of the monster, and crushes it. All at once the monster's body goes limp, and you both tumble to the ground.

After fighting your way free of the mushy corpse you see the body begin to dissolve into some sort of pink liquid. Looking at yourself you see that your clothes are destroyed, along with a good deal of your skin. Maybe it'll grow back?

I think that's where I'll leave it for today. Thanks for joining me anons, I had a lot of fun, hopefully you guys did too.

I'm thinking I'll pick this back up sometime tomorrow, probably around the afternoon East Coast time. Should I start a new thread or just keep using this one?

Also any thoughts or advice for how the quest is going?

If you ever feel crits are too common, and have too large an effect, you could always change to a success by degrees system, to d100, or both. More or less crits are only good or bad depending on how they are handled however, you seem to have a good handle on things so far though, so I'm not worried.

I'm back everybody. Going forward I'm adding a few new rules.

First I'm adding a Fate point system. You get 1 fate point every session that can be used to reroll a DC, including crit fails. I may award more Fate points for impressive feats or particularly entertaining roleplay.

I'm also adding what we'll call the GET bonus. If a diceroll post ends in dubs that's an automatic +2 to the roll. Trips are a +3 and so on.

Third I'm going to try to be more strict about going with the first decision to reach three votes, as I feel I've been kind of hasty in awarding the first couple people to answer, I may drop that down to 2 votes if the quest is especially slow moving.

---

You won. You're still alive, or undead anyway. But you're not quite out of the frying pan yet. That noise from your fight probably caught somebodies attention, and you look way more zombiefied than you did a few minutes ago.You should probably get dressed and skedaddle soon. This guy was a mage though right? He probably has some cool stuff we could take.

First you end up getting dressed, once again the weird goth style seems to be all this guy has, is it a thing with these magicky types? Whatever, at least your beef jerky looking dick is bare to the world at large anymore. First you find a large stash of cash tucked away under the bed.

Current funds >$723

Not bad at all, second after looking through his suitcase you seem to not find anything until you see some sort of hidden compartment unlock. Inside is an ornamental medallion bearing a lion's head, it's eyes appear to be made out of emerald. You're not really sure what it does but it looks valuable atleast.

>Golden medallion get

Searching through the bathroom you find a set of small jars containing colored powders, some of the powder appears to be spread out on the floor in the shape of a magic circle. You go to grab the jars but drop one and it shatters on the floor. Oops.

>2 mystery powder jars get

Alright that's about all we can find in this place. Looking out the door you realize there are two cop cars outside in the parking lot. One of the cops is standing outside talking to that lady you ran into in the reception building. Shit, this doesn't look good.

Well it's time to shit or get off the pot. You pull up your hood and try to slip out the door and down the steps as quickly as possible. What's odd is you feel the stealth rune on your skin activate even as you move. You feel like your gaining more control over whatever power it gives you. Like learning to flex a new muscle.
[Shadow Blend] level 2- you can keep shadow blend active while moving at a slow pace.

Creeping into the shadows you move down the steps and around the back of the building, slipping off into the night, pockets filled with loot.

As you walk back into the abandoned building you see the sun peaking out over the city, lighting up the smog of the industrial district.

Once inside you see Lisa writing in a journal in some language you don't recognize.

"Good you're ba-" She looks up to see you and raises an eyebrow. "What happened to your face?"

"And you really punched this man while he was... Pleasuring himself?"

"Yes, well he stopped once he saw me. I wouldn't blindside a guy who was jerking it, I mean that's pretty low even for me."

Lisa replies, "Well this has given me a lot to think about. But I am interested in these items you retrieved from his house, you still know where they are I trust?"

"Yeah, they can't like, track us with them or anything right?"

"Unlikely, the man was a hedge wizard, self-taught, I doubt he had any friends powerful enough to scry upon us through them."

"Good, so are they valuable?"

"Indeed, I'll need to get a closer look, but from the sounds of things the medallion is a totem. An artifact that can bestow the physical power of the animal engraved upon it. I could spend some time binding it to you if you wanted to use it?"

"That sounds neat, what about the powder?"

"Alchemical salts most likely. Not much use to anyone who isn't a Practitioner. He was probably trying to use them for some sort of spell that went wrong from the sounds of things. I'd like to have them if I could?" She pauses. "Unless you think that you'd be better served learning the Art?"

"I wanna learn what all this magic stuff is about."

Lisa looks at you with an even seriouser face. "Be warned the Art is a volatile and dangerous tool, many have tread this path too earnestly, too shortsighted and power hungry, and destroying themselves in the process."

You think back to the bubblegum monster and nod.

"Indeed you might say that it's only for those put their... heart... into it." She says with the slightest smirk.

--

The rest of the day is spent learning the basics of alchemy.

"These salts are distilled forms of basic elements." Lisa points to the jar containing a red-black salt. "Ruhk, the element of fire." She taps the the jar of blue-green salt. "Ishe, the element of water." I'm going to be teaching you how to channel these elements into pure expressions of their forms.

"So I can shoot fire from my hands?" You asks, excitedly.

"Yes, you will." She says, "More experienced alchemists know how to use multiple salts at once to create more complex elements, and in turn, weave more complex spells, but for now we will start with just these two."

Cont.

Learning to speak the language of magic is more complex than you though. It's not enough to just say the words, you have to say the words perfectly. Without the slightest hint of an accent, honestly most of your lesson feels like speech training more than anything.

Sometime in the late afternoon though you manage. Speaking the proper incantation with a bit of fire salts in your fist and a small fireball leaps out of your palm.

New spells learned
>Conjure flame
>Conjure water
"Now remember," Lisa says, "alchemical salts are not easy to come by so be wise about how you use yours."

"So what's next for us?"

"That's up to you. I have a meeting with a coworker I'll need to be attending tonight, you're welcome to come along, you might learn something." Lisa offers.

"Sounds kinda boring, what else you got?"

"Well, if you're not interested in that, there's something I need delivered to a friend. It would be nice if you could take care of it for me."

Well this is great, you learn how to become a human flamethrower and all she's got for you now is busywork.

"I'll go delivering this thing to your friend." You say.

"Very well." Lisa goes and grabs something from a bag in the back of the room. "When you get there tell the man up front you were born under the second star. That should get you inside."

"Uh okay."

"You'll be looking for Jace. Tell him I sent you to deliver this." She places in your hand what looks like a bone, covered in scrimshaw carvings.

"Got it"

"Also try not to do anything stupid okay? I'm not sure I can bring you back from the dead a second time."

As you begin to leave she tosses you another cellphone. "If this one gets destroyed I'm not giving you another one."

"Fine fine, you're KILLING me with this nagging."

The place is some dive bar you've never heard of. The sign on the front says Xibalba. Looks pretty run down. As you walk up to the door the bouncer moves to stop you. A 6 and a half foot wall of a man. He leans down and sniffs you. Okay that's creepy. "What you doing here meat? This ain't you're kind of place."

"You? She picked you? You don't look capable enough to wipe my ass, let alone what she's got in store for you." After that he moves to the side.

When you walk inside the bar everyone goes silent and turns to look at you, like something out of western movie. "Who invited the rotten meat?" Someone says.

"Is Jace here?" You ask to the room full of what you think is some sort of goth biker gang.

"Send him over." A man with blond hair in a booth at the back of the bar shouts. He has two girls under each of his arms and some other tough looking gentlemen sitting across from him. He makes a gesture the girls get up to leave. The muscle gets up as well but stand beside Jace, gesturing for you to sit down.

As you take your seat the men move over to block your exit from the booth. Jace leans back and takes a sip of his drink.

"Lisa sent me." You say reaching into your jacket for the gift. The moment your hand leaves your pocket one of the body guards has your head pinned down on the table, your arm being restrained back in a very painful manner and a blade held against your throat.

"Ah, ah easy boy's we don't want to be breaking Lisa's new toy." Jace says, "I'd hate to go and make a pretty girl like her upset."

Jace extends his hands out, "Give it here." Jace takes the scrimshaw bone and begins turning it over, examining it.

Closing your eyes you wait patiently for an explosion that doesn't come. Well fuck, the diplomatic approach then.

"Can you call off your boys please? This position is... KILLER on my shoulder."

Jace doesn't even look at you. "Calm down meat, I just need to verify that this is the genuine article first.

Jace opens his mouth revealing a large pair of fangs. Pricking his thumb against one of them he sets the bone down on the table and lets a single drop of blood fall from his thumb.

At first nothing happens, then the bone seems to come alive, the blood runs down along the groves of the scrimshaw carvings, outlining what looks to be a symbol written the language of magic.

You don't recognize the symbol at first. But then you realize something. This symbol is like a logogram. It's made up of a combination of all the basic magic symbols you learned earlier today, it's not exactly easy to read but you seem to be a natural at this stuff. A combination of the symbols for DEATH, LIFE, BLOOD, and ... SPIDER? You're not exactly sure what it translates to completely but you can gather a rough idea of it's meaning from the symbols that make it up.

Jace lets out a whistle. "That's a relic alright. One of Aranea's. Lisa wasn't bluffing, I'd love to know how she got a hold of it."

Jace nods at the guards and the release you in short order. "Okay Mr. Frankenstein. Lisa's done us a huge favor, but I'm still hesitant about pledging my clan in service of this war she wants to start...."

>War? I don't know anything about this, I was literally born yesterday.

You may not have all the answers but you don't wanna fuck this up for Lisa, you decide to use what leverage you have.

"Do you really think you can try to haggle with me? After what she just gave you?"

Jace looks at you with a scowl. Something in his eyes makes you uncomfortable. If you still had blood in your body it would probably run cold. Then all at once he bursts into a laugh.

"Haggle with you? Sure I could, you seem to be a moron, and I've got your shriveled up nuts in a vice right now. But haggling with Lisa, that may be a different story. Not to say I'm scared of her, but it's unwise to put yourself in debt to a Practitioner, no matter how little clout they may have."

Jace takes his hand and scores it across one of his fangs, leaving a gash across his palm.

"By my name, by my blood, and by my clan, I will aid your master until this war is through."
He extends his hand.

You turn back to look at Jace. "Always remember to look out for number one. Lisa may seem nice, but you haven't seen what she's capable of when things get desperate. She may sell you down the river to save her own skin if things don't look good."

You make your way out of the bar. During the long walk back you realize you have questions for Lisa. So maybe you don't need to know everything but she could give you enough info to keep from making a complete fool of yourself. You wonder over if you should have just left after the delivery, not tried to get involved in her business. But you're already pretty involved anyway. Thinking about it makes you angry. Maybe a little angry, maybe REALLY angry. You're not super sure how you feel. That is until you make your way back to her place. The first thing you say to her is-

"Lisa we need to talk." The normal humor and levity you use to deal with uncomfortable situations is gone.

"What happened?" Lisa asks.

"What happened was I was almost torn to shreds by vampires because you keep giving next to no information when I'm going to negotiate on your behalf."

"Negotiate, you were just supposed to deliver-"

"No that's bullshit, I may not be super knowledgeable about this magic stuff, but I know politics. Especially gang politics, you had to know there was no way he wasn't gonna try and use me for leverage, how can I do defend against that if you keep me in the dark! What's this war your waging? Maybe you don't trust me with everything but dammit if I'm putting my life on the line I should at least be entitled to some idea of what's happening."

Lisa sighs, "You're right. I apologize. You half to understand that trust doesn't come easily with me. It's a part of how I was raised. But you've stuck your neck out for me more than once, so in turn I'll give you the full story. Have a seat."

"Do you remember when I told you about the Moroni family?"

"The people you have under your control?"

"Yes, well I never explicitly said I control them."

"Uh, huh."

"See they fall under control of my family, the Ciallmahr family. I was raised in the Ciallmahr family, groomed to become one of the matriarchs, I would have served in a position very close to the head of the family, a position of considerable status and power."

"Would have?"

"Would have, yes, see my family was very... competitive. It wasn't uncommon for elder children in the family to have an accident, that conveniently allowed their younger siblings a shot at a better position. I myself did some things I'm not very proud of, to get to where I did."

"So what happened?"

"I was working under one of my uncles, as an apprentice. He was a very old man, several centuries old, and over time he had become very hedonistic. He was a womanizer, used charms to bring woman under his control and make them his slaves. Over time he seemed to grow more interested in me personally. These kinds of things aren't uncommon in the family, I was encouraged by my elders to grin and bear, simply brush off his advances until I could be elevated to matriarch, and for a time I did. But one day he refused to take no for and answer, he got angry. Then violent, and I... defended myself."

You can tell how uncomfortable she is talking about this. "Right I get the picture, you did what you had to do.."

"The family didn't see it that way, I was banished from the family, forbidden to Practice, expected to live out the rest of my days never seeing them again."

"Clearly you aren't doing that.."

"No, I've spent the last few years planning a coup. Scraping and working to gather up every favor I could in preparation to move against them and take the city for my own."

"I suppose that's where I come in huh?"

"Yes, you're my right hand in this, my general, my diplomat, my loyal servant all in one."

"Right."

"So what do you say? Are you in this for the long haul?"

"It's not just about that, though, I'm not just going back, I'm taking over. I'll be changing things, for the better."

"I've seen a lot of people try to do the right thing, change the world, only to get stabbed in the back by people with less wholesome desires."

"Well hopefully my back will be okay, as long as I have you there to watch it."

With that Lisa goes to turn in for the night. You, however, do not sleep. Looks like you'll have a few hours of free time. What do you want to do?

As you read you learn that all magic functions on similar basic mechanics. There has to be a power source that the spell draws upon, in alchemy this is the alchemical salts that are used to conjure elements, but in other forms of magic it's less concrete. Shamanism for example, uses the power of nature itself. This is why druids tend to live in forests like crazy hippies, being surrounded by nature gives them power to cast spells, or in ritual magic, where an animal is sacrificed to empower a spell. This energy is harnessed and directed by the use of magical tongue, which functions like the programming language of the universe. The commands tell the energy where to go and what to do. These instructions can be spoken, written, or sometimes both for more complex spells.

Learning the basics of magic you feel as though you have a better understanding and will have an easier time learning new spells.

You test this out by teaching yourself a basic shaman spell. It lets you channel the air around you into a strong wind that strikes with the force of a bowling ball thrown at high speed. Now you can punch things from across the room, just like in your Japanese Animes!

Looking over Lisa's plans you see she wasn't kidding when she said that her family owns the city. This is going to be an uphill battle.

So far it looks like Lisa's trying to get the neutral parties on her side, we already have Jace's clan promised to us. That leaves 3 neutral parties we could attempt to win over.

The fae folk, a very strange group difficult to appease, they mainly live in forests and parks and play pranks on unsuspecting people, these pranks can range anywhere from annoying to fates literally worse than death. With certain people losing their shot at a peaceful death and becoming an undead servant who's part of the Wild Hunt. Dealing with them could be dangerous, but they would be a powerful ally to have on our side.

The werewolves, tight nit group. Don't trust outsiders, can get into fights with the vampire clans on occasion. Big on the idea of honor and loyalty, won't make alliances easily but once they do, they will stick by them until the end.

Then there are the goblins, nasty little fuckers. They live down in the junkyard and feed on trash. They're stupid and violent, and you can't trust them worth a damn but they would be handy to have in a fight.

Who do you think you should go after first?

Lisa wakes up to see you pouring over her plans. She's wearing a robe, hanging open to reveal lacy black undies underneath... nice.

"You've been busy, hmm?"

"Well there's not a lot to do around here, it never hurts to be informed."

"And what does my adviser think, now that he's been informed?"

"I think we should try and talk to this werewolve pack, see if they won't pitch in to join our cause."

"Hit them on the nose with a newspaper until they do what I say?" Lisa gives a knowing smirk. "Okay maybe I hadn't gotten that far yet."

Lisa pours herself a cup of coffee from a pot in the corner of the room, one of those fancy alarm clock coffee makers. "Well, let's think then. If you were a werewolf, what would make you put yourself and your pack at risk fighting a powerful enemy on the behalf of some lady you don't know?"

"Well the werewolves are big on honor right? I guess if we could put them in our debt some how they would feel like they had no choice."

"Very good, but the werewolves are proud too, they aren't just gonna be bribed by tokens of power like the vampires, they would refuse it no matter how enticing the promise of magical power is." Lisa takes a sip of coffee.

"What if we could put them in debt to us some other way? Make them feel as though they have no choice but to help us."

"Very good, you're learning quickly. My sources tell me that they are in trouble, although I'm not totally sure from what. Something is killing them off, one by one. You will have to get creative to find out what the problem is, before we can begin to solve it."

Lisa raises her arms in a noncommittal shrug.

"Don't pull my leg bone here, aren't you supposed to be an expert at this kind of stuff."

"It's just one of those risks we have to take in this line of work I suppose, if you're worried about smelling like a corpse I can say you'll be fine, my magic keeps that from happening at least."

"Alright well can you offer me anything else to help?" You ask.

Lisa reaches down into her robe and pulls out a small dagger from beside her thigh, does she always have that on her? "Silver." She says, "Only use it as a last resort, we're trying to recruit these guys, that probably won't happen if you end up murdering them. Even if it's in self defense."

"I'll bear that in mind."

You glance at the page Lisa points to then peer straight at her rack from out of the corner of your eyes.

"This man is Marcus Wilderbane. He's currently the pack leader, tonight they will be holding a meeting of some sort out in the forest, eavesdropping on that will likely be your best chance at finding out what's going on, bear in mind that getting caught trespassing out there could likely mean your death."

Your getting lost in those curves, better say something before she gets suspicious. "It'll be risky but it looks like our breas- ah best option."

Lisa stands back up, if she noticed she doesn't show any sign. "Yes this will be important, hopefully you don't succumb to any... distractions that may be present."

Several hours later you are marching through the forest in the dead of night. During your past life you spent many nights out in the woods, but this feels different. The forest seems more alive, more sinister, but you can't quite say why.

Suddenly you notice a small fire in a clearing some distance from you, a motley crew of figures gathered around it in a lose circle.

You decide to play it safe, staying back means you have to work on visuals alone.

The crowd seems to be having a relatively calm discussion for a while, but things slowly begin to heat up, gestures become more aggressive. Specifically one of the werewolves appears to be trying to keep everyone calm while arguments continue to break out between the group. After a while one figure steps forward from the circle and points at the would-be peace keeper. At first the two appear to be having an argument but then everyone goes silent.

The lose circle immediately forms up to create a tight ring, the two figures begin to hunch down and change shape. The pack lets out a blood curdling howl all at once.

As you move up you start to see the fight in better detail. The werewolves are large, maybe a man and a half in height. The peacekeeper is larger but the challenger moves faster. You thought you could move quickly but these guys move like nothing you've ever seen before. It's like a dance, they move into one another and trade blows, fur and blood flying. These wounds aren't superficial either, deep gouges and bites that weep blood onto the ground, mixing with the dirt into a dark mud. The peacekeeper tries his damnedest but the aggressor is winning out more of the trades. As he loses blood he moves slower. Taking worse and worse hits each time. Eventually the aggressor takes him to the ground. From there the fight ends in short order, after a brief grapple, pinning him down, the peacekeeper changes back into his human form, clearly beaten. The aggressor follows suit. As you get closer you begin to see that they are man and woman. The man heavily built, likely in his early thirties, dark hair. The woman looks to be in her twenties, small but wiry with muscle, fiery red hair and scars of deep gouges running across her face. Claw marks? Both are naked now, their bodies covered in wounds that appear to be healing rapidly, but why don't the wounds on the woman's face close?

"It's over Marcus, clearly you are unfit to lead with word or with claw." The redhead stands before the circle and makes a show of her victory, raising her arms to present herself to her new pack.

"Not yet, As standing pack leader I still have a right to choose a second." Marcus replies, brushing himself off and standing up.

"Too weak to lead, to weak to fight your own battles. After the ruin you've brought down upon us I doubt any here will fight in your name but very well, chose your second."

Marcus stands and points, but he's pointing between two members of the circle out into the distance. In fact if you didn't know any better you'd say he's pointing right at... oh. Oh dear god no.

You have this great idea for an entrance, you're already blending with the darkness, you stand and begin to emerge from the shadows. Or you would if you were not immediately closelined by two angry werewolves the moment you stood up. The drag you before the circle and you stop seeing stars in time to look up at a snarling redhead.

"What treachery is this? It's bad enough you invite and outsider, but this... this abomination! I'll see you drawn and quartered for this."

"He is my second, and he will fight." Marcus replies, completely calm.

"He cannot, he is an outsider."

Marcus looks over to a older black man, wearing dreadlocks and a beard. "What say you keeper?"

The keeper looks over, "While it is certainly... unorthodox... there is no rule stipulating the second must be a member of the pack, or even one of the kin."

Redhead looks even more pissed than before, if that was somehow possible. "So be it, I will rip him limb from limb, then once I'm pack leader I'll see you dead for this treachery."

Hunched down on your knees as you are, you seem to a perfect tit gazing level. They're quite nice, small perky and firm, not nearly as big or bouncy as Lisa's though.

"My name is Paul, nice to meet you two.." you mutter under your breath. If Red noticed she doesn't seem to care.

Getting back to the buisiness at hand you address the pack. "Look I came to help you, and I will, even if I half to beat some sense into you first."

You turn to look at Red, making eye contact this time. "So I say bring it on Red, I've had a BONE to pick with you sense I met you."

Red turns away from you, "I will not debase myself talking to that... thing."

You are released from the grip of the two werewolves, as you stand up the circle reforms and crowd begins uttering a low chant around you.

You square off from the redhead, remembering the silver dagger concealed on your person.

Not bad, let's just hope you didn't use up your good luck on the first hurdle.

--

Thinking on your feet you quickly formulate a plan for a combined magical attack to knock her off her feet. With your hand in one pocket you deftly pop the top on the bottle of fire salts, pouring some into your hand and resealing the lid all in one fluid motion. With the other hand you focus the magical energies weaving through the forest into a focused point on your palm, using the correct incantation you fire off a bullet at the charging werewolf. While you hit her dead on she doesn't seem to feel it, continuing her charge completely unafraid of you, unfortunately for her this is all a part of your keikaku.

As she runs you down you deftly side swipe her and wind up behind her back, nothin personnel kid. Now comes the hardest part, it's gonna take you a while to say the proper incantations both for the salts and the wind, all while not getting hit by this incredibly pissed off (hot) werewolf girl.

You are dodging her attacks perfectly somehow, it's just like in your japanese animes, you deftly avoid every swipe and make it look effortless, all the while conjuring up the perfect incantation. It all comes down to this.

"Ha-me"

With the incantations finished your rear back and strike the pose. Letting it all release at once while she is on top of you.

"HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-"

You release the spell, and it works perfectly.. at first. Red goes flying as the fireball hits her and knocks her down.

Then it hits you. You didn't just ignite the salts in your hand, suddenly you are covered in a firey explosion, you see your left arm sailing away from your body through the air as you are engulfed in flame.

You want to celebrate your victory but the horrific pain as your body burns makes it somewhat difficult to do so. Fishing the water salts awkwardly out of your pocket you pop the lid and expend 2 drams in order to put yourself out.

>3 drams remaining

Steam rolls off of your crispy smelling body. You walk over to examine your opponent lying on the ground after being bounced off of a tree. Reverted back to her human form, she appears to be unconscious, but fine, her healing factor taking care of any damage she received during the fight.

After your first aid is over you pick her up with one arm in a shoulder carry, it's awkward but you're zombie strength seems to make up for the lack of a second arm.

As you march back to the pack they seem to be gathered around waiting for your return. "Hey everybody, could somebody lend me a hand, specifically my hand?"

A couple members of the pack take Red off your hands, setting her down. A third shows up with your arm, holding it outstretched between thumb and forefinger, looking rather uncomfortable. You thank him and take it.

"Marcus breathes in, this... issue my pack faces has been troubling me for some time. After communing with the spirits I received any answer, I would need to rely on the help of an outsider if I wanted to save my pack. It was a... difficult answer to accept. I must admit you are certainly not the help I had expected..."

"Aha yeah... so you knew I was coming cause of magical spirit guides?"

"No actually, I only noticed you after my fight with Adara, I caught a glimpse of the bonfire reflecting off your eyes while you were hiding in the woods, perhaps it was fate."

"Or dumb luck."

"Some would say there is no difference between the two."

"Right.. Adara, that's the redhead then? What's her deal?"

"Adara means well, she wants what it best for the pack but she can be...difficult."

"If by difficult you mean a raging bitch then yeah."

"I don't think less of her for it, she has passion, but she needs to learn to temper it with patience, I hope one day she may lead the pack in my stead, once she's learned more."

"Kay... So you know my Mistress by name, what's the deal with that?"

"Alright so what's going on with your pack?"

"My pack has fallen under a... curse of sorts. The kin, werewolves, we practice a form of ancestor worship. Making offerings, communing with their spirits and working to please them in exchange for their guidance and knowledge. One of our ancestors, a powerful war chief, had his tomb defiled by someone. We do not know who, or what did it. But the warchief he demands vengance. Until his tomb has been purified by the blood of its defiler, he takes his rage out upon us. One by one our kin have fallen into madness, an insatiable bloodlust, they turn upon the pack and kill their own, until we put them out of their misery."

"And until you find the defiler of the tomb you can't break the curse. Got it."

"Yes, I admit having the aid of a Practitioner would make this easier. The pack will not like relying on outsiders for help but I am still leader, and they will have to listen to me. But enough has happened for one night. Return to Lysandra and tell her we will accept her help. We'll begin investigating the tomb tomorrow night."

On the way back to Lisa's you notice a familiar smell walking down the street. Brimstone and sulfur, looking around you notice a cat on a nearby rooftop, staring at you intently. As you look up to meet it's gaze it runs off behind a corner and disappears.
