There's trouble brewing, and only those who are tasked with curating the Dreamscape may save the night. Who will cull the nightmares who disturb the peaceful slumber? The veil embraces any who wish to try their hand, but it is the Abyss that will judge worth. Step forth, Dream Catcher, and prove yourself.

Dream Catchers is a collaborative skirmish game where players take control of their own personal character. Mend and defend the weary hearts and minds of those in slumber, and fight until dawn. Be it nightmares or anxieties which ails them, find the source of trouble and exorcise it before the dreamer awakens. Successful exorcisms results in healing the dreamscape, and by proxy improves the player characters themselves.

Here's how you make a character and a quick summary of how the game is played. While movement and facing are cardinal (no diagonals) attacks and spellcasting in general will allow for diagonals to be used. Standard Melee range is also defined as all eight adjacent tiles surrounding the character, and facing is the three tiles in front of them.

An important thing to note would be how one avoids the death of oneself and comrades. This sheet covers such information. Remember that you are not required to >Struggle, and may use your actions at half effect or potency, except with move actions which are reduced to 1 Mov.

It is worth noting that if a skill that deals damage as an AoE it will hit all things which occupy its tiles. Only time this is not the case is if it is with a flying target and there is another available target below. Whichever target the ability is aimed at will determine if the AoE hits all flying or non-flying available targets in it's area of effect.

Given the length of time between this and the most recent thread, figured it'd be a good moment for an in-game Rest Phase. Players may choose one of the actions presented to be processed before the phase ends, which does allow new Catchers to join and start with a class IMMEDIATELY! This is only a benefit garnered for a limited time, so be sure to capitalize on this before the map loads in proper.

Leaving the thread up for a few hours before starting the speed processing, which will be expected to start in four and a half hours. See you there!

The door barring entry opens to the ring of a strange, distant chime. A weaker horn can be heard coming from down the hall as the party descends further down into the realm. Arriving at a landing, the catchers see a small barrier holding up another lamp, and passing through any of the gates produces a quick chirp. There lies a dripping echo coming from somewhere within the area, as tiled walls and floors line the realm.

A toot of a horn is sent with inquiry into the void, with an excited response echoing back. The party takes in the surroundings, noticing a wrecked vessel resting on the platform merged into the wall. A simple array of [Candle]s lines the bow rail, and a fine, glistening powder marks caution. Across the railway the party can see a large stack of crates, the glint of lost or forgotten wares catching the eye.

The runners go loud, firing arms, landing hard, and touching things that don't belong to themselves. One of the boxes springs a trap from underneath, almost impaling Hahp-Hahp! Luckily their defenses were suitable to deflect the powerful blow. As the party's eyes turn north, the void pulls away to reveal a strangely nostalgic melody played alongside the brass.

As the runners dive further, and seek to meet aggression with hasty brute force, one catcher converts a mimic into a hefty meal while another mimic finds itself splattered across its immediate surroundings. A third catcher notices the source of the chain holding the crate in place, but is halted by the resident of the lawn they were previously standing on. Lastly, another climbs high enough to notice what lies on the deck of the bow, a chest baring a locked face.

Speed processing is now done for the night. The rotation pattern will aim to be once at noon and midnight CST or thereabouts, with planned speed processing sessions on Mondays and Thursdays, albeit shorter sessions will happen on Thursdays, starting as soon as I wake up. (Generally)

Oh, yeah there's a known items compendium being built up, but there hasn't been an opportunity to really use it on the thread yet.

You also have two actions, and 3 Mov to work with. You can move twice as well, and climbing things just costs extra movement equal to it's elevation.

As the party takes heed or ignores the advice of the resident runner, one instead takes to the art of improv. The buskers follow in kind, unleashing the tunes of hot jazz across the platforms. As the band really takes off, an eerie light falls upon the first platform, bathing some of the catchers in an essence quite unnatural. The engine itself is moving at a slow enough speed to be properly perceived as more than just a blur of doom and destruction, but is not braking to stop at the platform. Look out!

In comes the engine, the Doomtrain! A wayward runner gets pulled out of the way, and up to safety while a now adjacent knight examines a chest locked fast. The [Improv!] up at the third platform takes a turn for a less structured pace, while a nearby vengeance seeker finds themselves just a tad bit out of range to capitalize on an opportunity. Others explore further into the room, and one takes to discussing future plans while examining a makeshift home in the corner.

The way further down is found, and a defiant stance leads into a gorgeous maneuver, setting The Doomtrain on a new track in life. A large cast metal helm flies from the engine head due to the impact, revealing a grimacing facade and now exposed organs to the realm. Elsewhere, snatchers begin to spill out from the tunnel. It appears these have spent plenty of time in the abyss and are more resilient to the dangers presented by the catchers than their brethren.

The Stairs have been found!

A trio of runners pile into the engine, but their hellacious combination of skill and style is broken by a wayward catcher attempting to transition into a solid, impassable structure. Another takes to clearing out the freshly arrived snatchers, though some survive. One takes to the shadow of an inattentive dreamer, gripping them almost as if they were to shield themselves? Another disappears from sight entirely. Elsewhere, preparations are in the making.

With the assault completed, The Doomtrain blurs into a misty form, though its spectral light shines bright and narrow down the tracks. Those caught in its beam feel anxiety boiling within their flesh, as if they stand atop death's door while bathed within the unnatural glow.

"My appreciation for resscuing me from the most recent level of thiss realm. My own diving party was sscattered by the harrier now known as The Doomtrain, with the few I found left dead on the tracks. I've spent many a night, cowering within my own attempts for ssanctuary, planning for a meanss to regroup with my alliess... yet... each time I would view a light in the dark it would be that infernal engine barreling down upon me." her tone takes on a weaker breath as she continues, having to take a few moments in order to reacquaint herself with her surroundings. "Apologiess, I've been in the dream for far too long. I shall keep the next part brief, no?"

She removes her mask to reveal her misshapen form, obviously corrupted by extended exposure to the dream. "I've been deemed a coward by the ideals of the dreamer for this realm," admits Agamede, "and I will rectify this by aiding your lot in defeating the harrier and finding the root cause to this realm's affliction. I present to you two options of which I've deemed to be the most effective against the engine..."

>Option 1 (Haste)
The party is to not take further time in order to capitalize on the vulnerable state the engine has been rendered into. The train sees the party as a threat, and fled from the station after all. It'll be quite threatening, now understanding the power of the runners and will be incredibly risky to deal with the engine if backed into a corner somehow.

>Plan B (Caution)
The party will take a rest to readjust themselves in order to take on this threat. Agamede will also be able to construct a means to deny the engine its advantage of speed and mobility, with perhaps a means to prevent it from using its ethereal form when brought to a critical state. However, the amount of time required for this plan of action to take place means the engine will be able to recover some (if not all) of itself. After all, it's now fully aware of how much a threat the party can become.

Vote on which route you want the party to take. Results will be tallied for tonight's rotation.
