General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Feraligatr)
Sorbet (Vulpix)
Ghost Pepper (Rotom)

Location: The woods just outside of Terichi, the city of nightlife!

Recently: Herb hangs out with everyone, and has some quality time with his loved ones and pokemon. (Thanks based archiver!)

You look over your pokemon. Sorbet is still in her ball. Rotom looks curious and seems to be wondering if it should do something to earn your approval. Dice looks a little too eager to hop in. Gobble was really into watching the match a second ago, but he’s become distracted by Gardevoir, who is putting on a weird little psychic power lightshow for the girls on the side of the battle area. Maybe they asked her to do that to keep her busy? Belladonna was looking pretty eager to get in there, but after seeing Mace get knocked out, she seems a bit intimidated. She might like to tease him sometimes, but there’s a strong sense of respect underneath it all.

“Alright Gobble, you’re back up.” You decide.

Gobble stops watching Gardevoir and steps up. His eyes glance up to Mace’s pokeball quickly as he gets back into the right mental state. Determination tempered by a strong sense of caution. Gobble is only mildly hurt, while Aggron is very worn down, but he still doesn’t want to underestimate his opponent.

Gobble throws up his dukes as he takes his place. Polu doesn’t hesitate to call out an attack. “Metal Sound!”

Metal Sound? You’re not sure which one that is
>Use Amnesia to raise Gobble’s Special Defense very high
>Surf at him. Try to avoid hitting Gobble against one of the many trees, though
>Metronome!
>Charge with Focus Punch, Gobble’s strongest attack
>Hit it with Body Slam. Gobble has weight of his own to throw around
>Use Lick to try to paralyze it
>Pick up a small tree stump and use Fling for an impromptu Grass attack
>Something else
>>
>>3127653
>Charge with Focus Punch, Gobble’s strongest attack

He doesn’t know about our flinch training, so he’ll probably use a small quick hit to interrupt it, especially after automatize. That’ll just bring him in range.

“Gobble! Surf!” You say, countering whatever Polu is planning with a quick offensive.

Polu holds steady. “Don’t let up, Aggron. Take out his Special Defense!”

Not a strategy you were expecting, but that’s more alarming than anything else. Or it would be, if Gobble wasn’t already halfway over there, riding the waves. The soundwaves from Metal Sound harmlessly break on them, missing the elevated Gobble before he and the waves crash down on Aggron.

The titan roars and crashes down. That mighty noise vibrates through your chest even from here, making it apparent that Metal Sound could have been devastating had it connected. What a voice!

Gobble stands on his defeated opponent. Less out of pride and more because he landed there.

“Way to go, Gobble!” You shout.

Gobble looks back with a big smile, giving a thumbs up. You wonder who Polu is going to use next.

Huh. Polu is taking his time retrieving Aggron. Polu is just watching closely, muttering something you can’t hear.

>Compliment Polu and Aggron while you wait for him to switch.

“Gobble! Take advantage of this time to use Metronome.”

Gobble jumps into action, not bothering to get off of Aggron. But if Aggron is taken away before he’s done, won’t he drop to the ground? You hope he’s ready for that.

“Yeah!” The psychic girl yells out in excitement.

Your eyes dart back to Aggron. His hand is reaching up to Gobble.

“GOBBLE!” You shout far too late.

Gobble finishes Metronome just in time to catch the arm. The two pokemon struggle in a grapple for a moment, but Gobble manages to gain the upper hand and flip his opponent up.

“How...” You ask, but the answer comes to you before you finish the question. Autotomize made Aggron light, and Aggron is doing one last desperation move that depends on surprise. He didn’t have the strength to fight.

Gobble brings the massive pokemon down in an earthquake inducing slam.

“Nice try, Aggron.” Polu compliments his pokemon as he finally returns it. “If we had one more second, you would have gotten him.” He looks up to you. “Sorry about the dirty tricks, bro. But that’s how us bad boys from street gangs roll.”

What the heck is he...oh. You look at the psychic girl adoring him and start to get an idea.

“Alright. Since Gobble is a surfer now, I’m going to have to try something else. Go, Bulbasaur!”

Hana and Keira squeal in unpracticed unison. Then they hold each other’s hands in excitement and squeal again on purpose. It’s not often you see Hana so openly expressive, but it’s pretty cute.

A small Grass type pokemon appears near Gobble, whipping the ground in front of it casually to emphasize its presence. He gives Gobble an eager smile. He’s looking forward to a rumble.

“Gobble! Body Slam! Get in there!”

“Leech Seed, Bulbasaur! He’s got a lot to take.”

Bulbasaur is fast, nailing Gobble in mid air as he leaps. But Gobble doesn’t even react. He always shrugs that sort of thing off and worries about it later. It’s an admirable quality, really.

Gobble lands on the poor Bulbasaur, producing a tiny little squeak. Bulbasaur quickly corrects its voice back to the relatively lower and grittier noises it was making a second ago. It’s not paralyzed, but they move looked like it hurt.

“Ooooomigosh Polu can I play with him after?” Keira draws everyone’s attention with her loud request for a second. “Oh. Sorry. Keep battling.”

“Don’t worry, Keira. Bulbasaur is going to be in great playing condition after this battle. Right buddy?”

Bulbasaur gives a cute, cocky roar, absorbing energy from Gobble thanks to the Leech Seed.

“Go Herb and Gobble, you can... awwww!” Hana trials off. Laki gives her a quick elbow jab, but it’s on her metal arm so Laki ends up with a pained expression.

Gobble and Bulbasaur slowly circle each other. They both look like they want test the other out some more. Like an instant rivalry. There's a nice wide area where they both have room to move around, but Gobble's back isn't that far from some trees and bushes, either. You might be able to use that if you want to try something creative.

>Try a move he might know by now, like Screech

“Alright Gobble, come back. Sorbet, you’re back up!” You quickly toss out her ball.

Sorbet yawns, but quickly shakes it off. She arrives just in time to take a Worry Seed.

Belladonna pulls at your leg and points excitedly.

“Yes, Bella. I saw it.” You assure her and pat her head. She calms down but still smiles widely.

“You’re swapping a lot.” Polu says, grinning, but having had his plan changed.

“You’re just depending too much on setups.” Jane chides, sucking some of the enthusiasm out of his posture.

Gravity is fading, but you still have time to make quick use of it if you want.

The protective mist around Sorbet is all but gone. You suppose that since that depends on her Snow Cloak, changing her ability with a move like Worry Seed suppresses it. That could put her in a bad spot.

Bulbasaur’s fighting stance looks way more relaxed. His eyes are as wide as Gobble’s gets when he looks at Sorbet sometimes.

“Toxic, Bulbasaur! And get in close. Her defenses are down!”

Bulbasaur charges forward, firing a huge blob of purple goo that lands on Sorbet’s paws. She recoils back a bit, alarmed at being so naked without her icy armor.

“Sorbet, use Blizzard!”

She shakes off her concerns and focuses, summoning a strong storm of snow that hits Bulbasaur in the side as he tries to rush her. The small grass Pokemon slides sideways from the sudden force, barely catching it’s balance before crashing into a tree. He probably would have flipped if not for the gravity.

Bulbasaur shivers and shakes off the snow, but boy, did that move look like it hurt. Still, with Sorbet so close and without the protective shield she’s come to depend on, and her poison, you can tell her morale is a little shaken.

Polu’s hand falls down near his belt. “Good job, Bulbasaur!”

The tree branches slowly go up a bit as Gravity finally wears off. Mace really put a lot into that move for it to last so long.

“Extrasensory, Sorbet!”

“Alright Bulbasaur! Come back!” Polu retrieves the popular grass pokemon. Bulbasaur gives Sorbet a self conscious, but roguish smile before he’s returned to his ball.

Gobble, who was distracted looking at a berry bush on the field, scowls.

“Volcarona, let’s turn up the heat!” Polu puns with the arrival of his new pokemon.

Sorbet once again buckles down and concentrates to use her move. A thick, glowing beam from her forehead connects to Volcarona with a direct hit. Little flaming scales scatter from the flying Bug and Fire pokemon like snowflakes. Sorbet’s excitement from the hit only lasts a second as Volcarona focuses its attention on the little, defenseless, future puddle.

Volcarona quickly performs a Quiver Dance under Polu’s command, drawing Gardevoir’s attention again. You hope she doesn't wander out onto the field like before.

You need a good plan. Something that will keep Sorbet safe from harm. Maybe even help her gain some more courage.

You snap your fingers! If she sees Volcarona get confused, that will definitely help her perception of it. She’ll be able to see it as just another pokemon with the same vulnerabilities as anyone else. “Confuse Ray, Sorbet!”

Sorbet fires another oddly coloured attack. This time, a ball of dark, purple energy that spins and twirls before finding it’s mark. Volcarona begins to fly erratically, narrowly missing a few branches.

“Way to go, Sorbet!”

She makes a soft, slightly confidence voice and lifts her head a little. Her many tails begin to slowly wag. But the enthusiasm is muted as Toxic really begins to take a big toll.

“Huh. I have to admit, I thought you were going to switch, bro. You’re hard to predict.”

Volcarona almost looks like it could pull the move off, but the wind and hail makes it bump into some branches and lose focus. The hail pelts it as well. The confusion remains for now.

“Hail, Sorbet!” You command, hoping the snow will help her even further. You’re worried she might not be able to do it, but she pulls it off wonderfully!

“Yes! Great job!”

She bounces on her feet in excitement. But the Toxic really punishes Sorbet now. She’s woozy. But she quickly catches herself. She looks determined to try her best after Mace’s display, and her newfound temporary courage in the moment.

But is that the right thing to do? Have her stay in when she’s almost certain to faint soon? But then again, would she manage if you took her out and put her back in later? Is it good for her to try, even if it’s risky? What if it backfires and she loses confidence? But what if you pull her back and she loses confidence from that? Are you doubting her resolve when really she can still last even longer than you think? Or are you letting her fall into a situation where she might strain herself and faint as she uses her next move?

You wrack your brain trying to figure out the right answer. You just want what’s best for your pokemon. Winning or losing isn’t as important as making sure your pokemon have the most beneficial experience. That's what you remember your dad telling your sister once, anyway.

Time is slow as you think. You look around. Not for the right answer, but for where to find the inspiration to determine the right answer for this situation.

Where do you turn to on instinct, as a trainer?

When in doubt, we should trust our pokemon before anything else.

How can we truly do something in her best interest if we don't listen to and take her feelings into account above all else?

Not at how she feels about continuing, but at how she stands, whether she's good to go, or is hiding an injury from those looking at her, deliberately or otherwise.
Ultimately, this is about our Pokemon, and while getting knocked out is ultimately part of battles, we can't let her get hurt pointlessly, and especially not permanently, even if she wants to prove herself.

Your eyes dart around for half a second, but they settle on Sorbet. Whatever decisions you make as a trainer, you resolve to make them with your focus on your pokemon first for guidance.

Sorbet shudders a bit, but you know she isn’t getting cold. It’s the Toxic. And if you look deeper, fear. She has a lot of doubt about her ability in the face of fire, and in the format of a pokemon battle in general. Despite having been in your team for some time now, she’s always clung to her wild habits more than anyone, and wild pokemon run from danger. It’s not like a battle where it’s ultimately harmless fun. That’s an instinct she’s been having a lot of trouble overcoming.

After seeing Mace show his guts, and seeing countless other displays of your pokemon give their all for the team, she wants to know if she can do that too. And so far she’s been standing her ground against an opponent that must be very scary for her and gaining confidence from it.

Physically you don’t see any reason she’d be permanently hurt by continuing to fight. It’s her fragile, newfound confidence that you’ve been worried about. But after looking to her to help to decide what to do, you’ve come to a conclusion that you’re going to commit to.

I don’t remember her having fainted in battle before. I think seeing that she can faint and be taken care of after will be good for her.

I kinda still can’t get over how cool the Seismic Toss was earlier... Metrenome is an amazing move, and Gobble is an extremely stylish fighter.
>>
I’ve just realized, we’ve used 3 unevolved Pokémon so far and, if this gets Volcarona, we’ll have taken down 3 fully evolved pokemon. And if Gobble can take down Bulbasaur (which, after hit by a Blizzard and Gravity-Body Slam like that, I suspect he can), we’ll have beaten 4 of his Pokémon with 3 of ours.
>>
“Blizzard! Give it your all, Sorbet!”

Sorbet glances back for a second, then, giving a determined nod, raises her tails up and begins to summon up a mighty Blizzard.

But a problem immediately becomes apparent. Volcarona has a great speed advantage on top of it’s typing.

“Heat Wave!” Polu instructs his Volcarona. The pokemon buzzes about, but another bit of stray hail makes the difference between sober thoughts and confusion. After Volcarona smacks it’s head a bit, it shakes off the remaining confusion. Steam rises from it as the hail picks up.

Sorbet’s coat puffs and bits of snow and ice emanate from her, despite her Snow Cloak and dependent ability having been replaced by that Worry Seed earlier. It’s not quite the shield it was, but just seeing her fight through it is inspiring.

Blizzard crashes into Volcarona, buffeting it around and penetrating it with cold. The powerful, flaming pokemon struggles against the intense chill, and ice seems to overtake and surround it.

“Go Sorbet!” You hear shouting from your girls. Even Gobble is punching the air right now. But Polu and his new admirer are also cheering on Volcarona. It’s struggle is no less valiant.

And unfortunately for Sorbet, the ice that was forming begins to recede and melt. Sorbet renews her effort and pushes her body, but it’s just short of her will. She was very close, but she just missed the mark by a small amount. Sorbet slowly goes down to the ground and closes her as while the Blizzard fades into a snowstorm, that while heavy, seems so very mild compared to the display a moment ago.

An exhausted, very worn down Volcarona floats there, taking damage from the hail. It blazes a fire around itself in weak but determined defiance. The puffs of flame flicker out, and it descends to the ground in a controlled manner, but it seems to concede on it’s ability to fight further.

“Sorbet. Return.” You feel exhausted as you recall your brave little Vulpix. “You did great. I’m proud of you.”

You can tell Polu is telling his Volcarona something similar as he talks to its ball. He reaches for Bulbasaur’s quickly after. “It’s all up to you. Give it your best!”

Well, you have the advantage here. He only has the injured Bulbasaur left, and you have Gobble, and one more pokemon of your choice. It’s a friendly match, but given how resilient Polu’s pokemon have shown themselves to be, you probably shouldn’t get too reckless.

Jane’s probably going to get Polu to put Stealth Rocks on Aggron, since Herb’s been swapping all over him. We should take the opportunity to put Stealth Rocks on Mace at the same time.

Polu is just too relaxed about letting his opponent progress their own plans. Trapping with that fire move was a start, though.

Also, when’s Herb gonna learn how to make these bad boys?

Awesome!

>>

We should also teach somone rapid spin if we’re really that worried about stealth rocks. If we teach Maze rapid spin I feel like Rocks Fall would become just a touch more dangerous then it already is.
>>
>>3134160
I really like that idea since rolling around with rapid spin will make it a lot easier to stay mobile under intense gravity.
>>
>>3134244
Rollout would work for that too though, and might be easier to learn.
>>
>>3134421
Can rollout clear Stage Hazards? If so, then I’d be all for learning that instead. It’s a much better move, especially for the fighting style Maze prefers.

Sorry not meaning to Same-Fag, Still new to the site just figured out what a trip code is. Both of these are mine.
>>
>>3134556
You don't need a trip, especially if its not your thread. There is a reason the default is Anonymous. Its actually bad form to use a trip for any reason other then maintaining your identity when you are providing content, like a QM or a drawfag. Even then only when providing said content. Its also redundant here since we have IDs.

Welcome to the community, and lurk moar.

Wait a minute, Mace can’t learn Rollout or Rapid Spin.

Then again, he “can’t” learn tri-attack either, so, we’ll see? Based on earlier descriptions from that trainer with the voltorb, maybe he can? But the question is, is it the best use of training time? There are some very good moves that might be a lot faster to learn.
>>
>>3137713
How the fuck does Roggenrola not learn rollout naturally?

We need to teach him Stone Edge too, it will let us shatter the battefield making it even harder to maneuver for terrestrial foes, and against flyers we can use gravity to cause them to plummet into the spires.
>>
>>3138605
I’m actually pretty interested in using reverse-gravity to do some sky-high fights, then hit them with smack down to magically make them plummet down to the ground.

I really need to write up my ideas for training regimens.

Though I think I can point out now that Rock Polish, Flash Canon, and Earth Power are all good gets from off the level-up list.

[Hey everyone. Sorry about the long gap between sessions. I've been very sick the last two weeks. Beyond that, the new job I was supposed to start has been delaying and getting any clear answers about what's going on is like pulling teeth, so I have no idea what my schedule would be like once I get a bit better so I can stay up running.

I might just be shit out of luck and moving back home or something. Pretty depressing at my age but things are looking that way. I'll keep you posted with a schedule once I have an idea.

Thanks for your patience.]
