Welcome to the X-Files Quest

In this Quest you will be assuming the role of a special agent of the FBI that is joining the X-Files. We will be following the main story of the TV show with your choices molding and changing various outcomes. However that doesn't mean everything from the show will play out exactly the same here. Also plot armor is going to be minimal, your choices could take yourselves or other characters out for good or for a long period of time so be careful.

Another big part of this quest is relationships. Certain actions will make charters around you love or hate you more, Piss off your boss too much and you might find yourself struggling to get resources, or be put on the bench or even cast out of the x-files entirely. Piss off your team mates and they may keep things from you that could save your life or change your fate, they could undermine your every move. Become to beloved by someone and others my feel the opposite, you might find yourself stuck in their messes and problems. Choose your friends wisely and your enemies even wiser.

Your Ultimate goal is to keep the X-Files Open. That means your going to need to decide after every case what to report and what not to report. Your character might lean more towards exposing the truth, or perhaps debunking the paranormal. Whichever you turn out to be, what you report is what your bosses, and other parties, will officially know. If things get too out of hand for example not following protocol, making up outlandish theories, or going over department budget could get you fired or the department shut down.

Who are you? What brought you to the FBI? How have you performed in the FBI thus far? Why are you being assigned to this dead department?

The answers to these questions shall be answered today. This is Episode 0:Legacy. In this Episode you will create your special agent that will be setting off on his or her adventures into the paranormal and inexplicable phenomena that is the X-Files. Also in this episode will be your characters origin, whether it be there first mission in the FBI or their first interaction with the paranormal. The point of this episode is too give your character depth and to figure how they fit into the first episode.

>Quest Guidelines

>Voting will be 15-20 minutes per and the most voted will be taken

>Rolling will be few and far between but when they do happen i will take the highest from three rolls

>Stick with your character, making out of character decisions can happen obviously but try to keep your character consistent and you will be rewarded accordingly

>Write ins are allowed in most situations and are highly encouraged just try to keep them within reason. Sometimes a write-in written well enough will yield much better results than any other option i give so if it makes sense go for it

>I hold final say in any of the above guide lines and they can be changed if need be

>Have fun boys!

>Lastly this thread will be pretty laid back so questions and discussion is encouraged, This will be my reference sheet for when i write up the first episode so if you have ideas this is where to put them.

FBI HEADQUARTERS, WASHINGTON DC.

Today's the day! Your first official day as a special agent in the FBI. You've just graduated from Yale University in Connecticut and ended your internship with the bureau. Your exceptional grades and exemplary results from physical exams enabled you to graduate at the top of your class and netted you the special agent title immediately. All your instructors had nothing but great things to say about you in the academy and pushed you as a prodigy and a very promising candidate.

You are now walking in the bustling hall of the FBI Headquarters. You can hardly believe it, looking around at all the suits and agents within them. Your one of them now. The clacking of your heels against the pristine floors brings your attention back to a center. You focus on the reception desk and see a friendly face waving you over. You eagerly approach with a smile on your face and firm handshake ready.

"Hi There, I was told this was your first day in bureau, congratulations on graduating from the academy! Before you can go further i just need you to fill out a couple of papers. Don't worry it's just a formality, all the information will go into your personal profile." The woman at the reception hands you a small stack of papers on a clipboard and and pen and motions for the benches not far away.

"Thank you mam, I'll fill this out and bring it right back!" you walk over to the benches and take a seat. Quickly skimming through the question you find most of it is very basic junk but a few questions stick out.

The first of which asks about the degree you hold.

>You have a degree in Psychology- You understand people better than most, you studied the human mind extensively and hope to get in the behavior analyst department profiling serial killers. (Psychological profile rolls much easier, Special Dialogue)

>You have a degree in Anthropology- You understand the human body better than most more so the history of the human body. You studied the human anatomy extensively in hopes to get into the Forensics department. (Forensic Rolls much easier, Special Dialogue)

>You have a degree in Communications - You understand how to talk to people. You studied communications and used it in the academy to specially train to become a crisis negotiator. In general you are a much more charming individual than most (Charm rolls much easier, Special Dialogue)

>You have a degree but really shined in the academy with Weapons training hoping to join the SWAT team. (Weapons Rolls much easier and Special Dialogue)

>Writing.
>>
>>3107304
As you fill in the section you can feel a flood of emotion splash to the forefront. You begin reminiscing on your childhood. You were raised by a single mother, and you have a twin sister. The three of you lived modestly. When you were very young your father had disappeared mysteriously.

When it happened your family was very torn up. Especially your mother.Your mother had looked endlessly, calling the police, searching the streets, doing everything she possibly could to find answers to the disappearance of your father. However she eventually was forced to stop looking to the past and need to focus on the future, You and your sister.

She never remarried or even dated again. She focused all her attention on you and your sister making sure you both made something of yourselves. She worked as accountant. You have a very close relationship with her.

Your sister also was devastated and much of her childhood she spent clanging onto you for support, you both were inseparable. And although she eventually grew out of it you both remain very close. She works as a police officer in DC not far from the bureau.

You don't remember much about your father only what your mother told you. He worked as a scientist for a privately funded company that no longer exists.

Although this happened long ago it still haunts you to this day. You hope that one day you can get answers about his disappearance. You were there when it happened, the night he disappeared you just... can't remember. Your mother refuses to speak of it now and your sister has completely forgotten as well.

As you look down to sheet of paper you see a tear mark smearing the page a bit. You quickly wipe your tear and continue on.

The next question asks again about your upbringing but this time about how your peers treated you.

>I am still haunted by my childhood, when I was treated badly by my peers.

>I spent most of my childhood alone, with no close friends.

>Others saw me as being different or strange, and so I had few friends

>I had a few close friends and lived an ordinary childhood.

>I had several friends, and my childhood was generally a happy one.

>I always found it easy to make friends, and I loved being around people.

>Everyone knew who I was, and I had friends everywhere I went.

>Sidenote I know this all seems kind of weird and unrelated but it will matter later on

You remember not being the most popular kid in school but definitely not an outcast, you had a few close friends and lived an otherwise ordinary childhood.

With that out of the way the next section asks you about your current residence. Due to your lifetime living in a modest home it carried along with you to your current life. You live in a modest apartment in downtown DC, quiet neighbors, a decent view of the city, and best off all no crazy traffic. You were lucky enough to live on a less traffic filled street than most.

You live alone, your passion and hard work ethic has for the most part closed off your dating life. But that's never been much of an issue for you.

After you fill out more in depth questions you move on to section after section filling out every necessary detail util the last one. It's odd actually. It doesn't seem like something an official questionnaire like this would ask.

"Throughout your life would you say you were more skeptical or believing of the paranormal, and supernatural. Would you explain certain events with reason and fact or theory based in extreme unlikelihood "

You think back to the disappearance of your father. Do you believe there is a logical explanation to his sudden disappearance or do you believe something a bit supernatural is more likely. You struggle to remember what happened that night. But it's coming back just a bit...

>Skeptic- There has to be a logical explanation. I was a child back then I can't rely on memories from that long ago. But if i do remember....

>Believer- Something strange happened that night. I know it. I remember..
>Leaning towards skepticism will yield better technical skills in the field but you will miss out on certain events because you deny and question most things you can't explain which can sometimes really hurt you

>Leaning towards believing will yield better discovery skills in the field but you may look into things way to closely and be blind or misled easily by putting to much faith in thinking everything is an extreme possibility

>Keeping a healthy balance of the two is possible but it's recommended you stick with one path.

While pondering this question you find yourself going back to that night. The night your father disappeared

November 17 1973

You were three years old at the time. Your mother and sister were away visiting your aunt. Your father insisted that you stayed with him for the weekend, and you blissfully complied as did your mother.

When it was time for you to go to bed your father tucked you in and kissed you goodnight.

"Goodnight my little Elise."

"Goodnight daddy!"

You remember tears swelling up in his eyes as he looked at you

"Why you crying daddy?" you ask sweetly

"Don't worry honey, daddy just loves you" He began to choke up a bit

"Sweet heart i want you to know that i will always love no matter what. Whatever happens tonight sweetie I want you to stay in your bed, okay?"

Slightly confused but not wanting to disappoint your father you respond "Okay daddy...but why?"

"Don't worry about it sweetie, no go on and get some rest, Mommy is going to be back tomorrow as well as your sister so sleep now so you can play all day."

"Okay daddy! Goodnight!" you give your father a peck on the cheek

"Goodnight sweetie" and with that he wiped his tears and left the room looking back at you longingly before shutting the door behind him. Looking back now though you remember the click of the lock on your door.

But at the moment you didn't notice and slowly drifted off to sleep....

Later that night, you are stirred awake by low humming coming from all around you. You yawn lazily and rub your eyes, you look around your room and see nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing that would make the humming noise.

That's when a white light slowly began to shine outside your window. You also hear loud footsteps coming from outside your door, as well as your father saying something although you can't understand him.

You feel confused, scared, and curious all at once, you feel bumps begin to form on your little arms.

What did you do?

>You went to the window to try and see what was causing the light

>You went to the door and tried to peek under/ through a crack

>You went to the door and tried to call out to your dad

>you tried to open the door and run to your father

You allowed you curiosity to overtake your other emotions and quickly jumped out of bed and rushed to your window.

However the moment you reach the window the light brighten exponentially temporarily blinding you. It hurt a lot as you fell backwards onto the floor and hit your head on the carpet.

Blinded and in pain you begin to cry uncontrollably. Between your loud wails the humming has vamped up significantly as well to the point where you felt yourself shaking along with the rhythm.

Reacting to your cries you hear you father shouting outside your door "ELISE?!?!" as he bangs on your door repeating your name.

After a few seconds he then stops abruptly and begins shouting at someone "YOUR NOT TAKING HER! TAKE ME GODDAMN IT TAKE ME!"

The loud humming and bright lights unfortunately keep you crying, the flash from the window still doesn't allow you to see properly but enough to make out rough shapes.

You looked towards the door and saw that a bright light completely illuminated the cracks something bright was behind it.

And the window was also brightly lit. But you knew you could probably see something if you were to look now but nothing in detail.

You didn't understand what was going on. You were so scared. Who was you father talking too? What was that light? Why would anyone want to take you?

The last thing you did was...

>Try to look out the window one more time

>Crawl to the door and peek through the outline of the door

You have to know what's beyond that door. You crawl as best you can to it, as you draw closer you can feel your little heart beating faster and faster. Pitter patter pitter patter accelerating by the second.

"I WON'T LET YOU TAKE HER!" You hear your father yell followed by a loud thud against the door. You can see the shadow of his feet from underneath the door.

This strikes terror in your heart and forces you to pause and cry even louder. But you force yourself to continue, your so close now!

However right before you reach the door you hear your father scream in pain "ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ELISE!!" The light beyond the door begins to flicker and dance wildly.

His voice warbles and distorts before eventually going completely silent, the humming filling the space.

You reach the door finally and put one eye through the outline of the door but see your father is gone. "DADDY?!?!" All you see is white light.

But in the white light you see something. No Someone. A short figure with scrawny limbs but a large round head. You can't make out any facial details but you can feel it staring right at you. Staring into you.

It fills your heart with terror.

But then it just disappears. Everything does, the lights, the humming, the whole room! Everything just goes dark. Looking back now you realize you probably passed out.

When you awoke you were lying the middle of the hallway. Your mother holding you in her arms crying hysterically. She's sees you awaken and immediately asks

"Oh my god Elise sweetie, what happened!?! Are you okay?! Where's daddy sweetheart?" She can hardly speak through the tears. She looks at you with relief and hope.

What did you tell her?

>You told her everything about the lights, the humming, what your father said, and the strange figure

You told your mother everything. At first you babble fast and incoherently, struggling to put your thoughts into words. But your mother stopped and helped you take a deep breathe to calm down.

Calmed and ready you were able to tell her everything. Every detail to the letter. And she listened to it all, not stopping you once. Her eyes stayed connected with yours the entire time.

By the end of your story she had a pained look on her face but almost like she knew something you didn't. she wipes her tears away and looks you in the eyes again

"Listen sweetie, I believe you i really do. But mommy needs you to keep this story a secret okay? You can't tell anyone. Not your sister, not the police, not your friends, No one. Okay sweetie?"

"But why mommy? I'm telling the truth!"

"I know you are sweet heart, but you have to listen to mommy okay? I want whats best for you. You'll understand when your older."

"But.. what's going to happen to daddy?"

"I don't know sweet heart. But i want you to forget about what you saw last night. I want you to not think about it honey. Let mommy worry about it."

She begins to break down again "And Elise... sweetie if anyone asks you about last night you tell them you don't remember. Okay sweetie? Remember tell no one."

"Okay mommy..." Your mother then pulled you into a tight embrace and cried into your shoulder

"It'll all be okay Ms. Rayner" her voice muffled by your body "Ms.Rayner?"

Wait what?
You snap back to reality. You're staring into a stack of papers on a clipboard. You look around and find yourself back in the FBI Headquarters. The receptionist standing in front of you, calling your name.

"Ms. Rayner? Are you alright? Have you filled out the form?"

"Oh Yes, I'm sorry i must have dozed off ha.." You embarrassingly reply checking for drool, luckily you find none, and fixing your outfit. You hastily finish the last question with a yes and present it to her

"Yes i just finished." You say as you hand her the clipboard

"Great! Well I've actually been told to personally escort you to a meeting." She cheerfully says as she takes the paperwork and gestures to the hall on the right

"Oh? Do you know who I'm meeting with" You rise and begin to follow her.

Your heels echo through the hall as you both make your way towards a beautifully crafted door.

"No I'm not sure, I just received a call moments before i woke you. I wouldn't be too worried it's probably some sort of orientation." This put your mind slightly at ease

You finally make it to door and are left by the receptionist " Have a good day Ms. Rayner and good luck on your first day!"

"Thank you you too!" You reply

You turn towards the door and take a deep breathe. This is it.

You turn the golden knob on the door and open it. You find a very dark and dimly lit room, all you see is a desk and a man smoking a cigarette sitting behind it.

"Hello Agent Rayner. I've been expecting you."

What'd you guys think? Like it so far, don't like it? Let me know.

If you guys have any questions or comments let me know, I'll be sticking around the thread all week.

But thank you to everyone who dropped by, hopefully I'll see you guys in future episodes. I'm pretty excited to finally be doing this.
