/qst/ - Quests

It's nice. The entire cellar exudes that certain prison dungeon feel, and the cold air is accentuated by a slight dampness, neither of which bothers you in the least. Contrarily, you could get used to this sort of feeling. Fitting for an Undead. You know very well how creepy it is, but that's essentially why you like it. It's unwelcoming, it's otherworldly, a hint of the grave, and the ill atmosphere holds promises of misery.

You know it shouldn't be like this.

Having Tina in your life especially makes it clear what life should be about is things like joy, and warmth, and love, and embracing everything that is good. But it's not that easy. You have a been soaked in discrete anguish for most of your life, and you think that somewhere along the way, you allowed your adversities to define you. Semi-subconsciously you caress the unholy bone weapon at your waist. The weapon is at the same time a source of both shame & and exquisite glee to you. Schadenfreude, and knowing that it's wrong..

(cont.)
>>
The guard who brought you down here is about to leave, and you think you have something you want to ask him, before he leaves.

The previous combat didn't offer you a lot of time to observe Tina, and so you really don't know much about her current status regarding thirst. Part of you wonders if it's okay to ask the guard for some blood, since he offered refreshments. Being a bloodsucker in itself isn't supposed to be a crime... Yet, you figure that maybe you shouldn't play with a completely open hand, and so you hold your tongue in that regard for now. Maybe you could just feed her some of yours when he's gone, if she's thirsty.

You do speak up, however, since you wonder how the guards view your role in the previous conflict.

"Hey, uh. Sorry, I didn't really notice but.. Were you one of the guards who picked me up at the graveyard?"

"Whassat? Oh, no, I work here. Jailer duty, mostly."

"Okay, nevermind then".

The sturdy wooden door shuts, and you're left to yourselves in the interrogation room.

Silence.

"Guess we're stuck here for now", Tina says.

Nar takes a seat on one of the wooden chairs.

(cont.)
>>
Well now. What to do.. You could be here for several hours.. Ah, right. You're not expecting trouble, but you want to be prepared in case it comes.

"Tina? How are you doing with your thirst? Did you use a lot of blood?"

"Hm? Oh I'm doing fine, I used some to regenerate during the combat, but not a lot.. That feels strange, by the way, healing with blood. Like sewing, somehow?", she smiles and shrugs.

"Sewing? That does sound odd.. But I think I get it, it sort of looked like it too, last time I saw it. Oh, but how about I give you something to drink? I'd rather have you topped off, in case of trouble. I don't expect it but.. you never know".

It's pretty obvious from her face and posture that you get Tina's interest at the prospect of blood. As soon as you mention it she moves towards you. That honest reaction has its own charm, even if it's a little greedy.

She playfully skips over to you, "would you be a doll and sweeten it up for me, like you did last time?" she asks while tilting her head, folding her hands, and blinking her eyes in a charming manner.

You smile and nod. "Just give me a second". Once you've channeled up the proper amount of dark energies, you give it shape and substance in your blood, and try your best to manipulate it into doing what you want...

"There, that shoul-"

While speaking, you raise your arm, but you hardly finish before she takes it, and sinks her canines into your flesh. She's not rough, so you don't really mind it, but it just goes to show how much she loves the stuff. A small part of you can't help but take pleasure in the idea that you can use it as leverage, even if it may be a little wrong.

Just a moment passes by, and you're struck by the overwhelming calmness that soothes the mind and soul, telling you that you should lower all of your defences, and submit to this wonderful state. And you gladly comply.

I still haven't find a suitable character picture for Alice. However, you can consider the following canon of Alice's appearance, although of course all of you a free to keep your own interpretation of her:
She's on the short side, perhaps around 155-160 cms. She's of slender build. Her face has a young look about it, something that would make you think she's a little younger than she actually is. She has a slender waist, while her hips are of average size. Her breast and ass are both modest. While she is rather attractive, her beauty is more in a pretty sort of way, instead of outright sexy. "Elven grace" would be a way to phrase it.

All too soon the feeling escapes your mind, and your enchated daze ends.

When you come to, Tina has just finished wiping her mouth, and the wound on your arm is gone.

"Ahhh~, thanks for the meal.."

You can tell she liked the taste, without even asking.

"How was it? Like last time?" you ask anyway, out of curiousity.

"Mmmhh.. No I'd say better. It's very different from regular living blood, but it is its own thing. I'd say this time was about as good as regular blood, but different! I like it. You really are the best Iym-mol'fryn, you know that?"

There's a certain look in her eyes, it makes you feel she's talking about more than what's immediately obvious. Like she's thinking about something deeper. You're unsure what she means, but you like approval. But for some reason, the way it came out of nowhere made you embarrassed about it.

"..You too, Aurúthiel"

Eager to get out of this wordlessly awkward situation, you clear your throat, and take a seat.

If you had brought your cards or a book, you could have played cards or gotten some reading done... But you didn't know you'd be in this situation back then.

...

"So uh.. Nar... Have you ever encountered anything like that spirit thing?"

For some reason, he seems surprised when you adress him.

"Huh? Wha? Oh tha' thing? Nah, not ever no. Mean sonuvabitch. I mean I've heard of some Dire Wolf Godling roaming the forests around here, but that didn't seem to be it".

After a pause where neither of you say anything, he speaks up again.

"M-mistress? Could ya maybe do tha' thing again, about my appearances? I haven't really gotten used to this... Cadaver look".

You consider his request. At first you were about to just turn it down, since you wanted to hide your ability to cloak Undead creatures, but.. What should you do?

In a way, you don't wanna reveal your trick. But at the same time, you want to be somewhat kind to Nar, at least enough to acknowledge that he has been helpful so far.

After you've thought it through, you simply nod to him, and raise the effect of [Presence of the Undying King] again. While you do it, you raise it for yourself as well, erasing the thin line of blue flames around your neck. You try it on Tina as well, but it seems it only works on your bound servants.

"Thanks, mistress. I don't mean to disrespect the wonderfully strong new form you gave me, or the blessin' of a second chance to right my ways. I'm thankful fo' all of tha'. It jus' creeps me out is all". You shrug in response, you didn't really assume it to be disrespectful, you're not that vain or arrogant.

You observe Tina for a while after that. She's fiddling with some small wooden bowl that was on the table, for some reason. At some point you speak up.

"Tina? Have you decided on a class yet? I'd rather you have one sooner than later, so.."

"Hm? Oh, I haven't set my mind on anything in particular yet, but I'm thinking about something like a fighter or a ranger for now. But I'll ask around once we get to Oaksberg, I think that'll give me a better idea, you know? Don't get me wrong, that flashy stuff you mages do seems like a ball, but I'm probably more of a martial type, you know?"

The last part she says with a playful grin.

You simply nod with a pensive expression.

Interesting choices, either would probably fit her well, she has always been the more physical of the two of you. Somehow it doesn't feel right that you are getting so powerful, and she isn't. It wouldn't surprise you if you could take her on physically right now, even during the nighttime.

Ah, but no matter. She'll get there. On a related subject, though..

"By the way, both of you. How did you feel the battle went? Is there something you think I could have done better? It's the first time we fought something that strong, after all.."

Nar is the first to answer.

"It was fine, wasn't it? I mean it was a mean dog, but we got it, and only lost a few of those braindead Undeads in the process?"

You honestly don't think Laughing was entirely mindless.. But whatever.

Once he's done speaking, a reluctance strikes him, and it looks like he's thinking that maybe his statement was uncalled for.

Tina makes an I-don't-know-sound. "Honestly it was a little annoying to feel so useless, especially when the beast seemed so dangerous. It took me a few tries to find out how to use the rapier, but... This damn sunlight is really doing a trick on me. I just hope I get stronger soon, I wanna do my part too, when it comes to life & death situations"

You feel like objecting, but can't find the right words. Plus, in a way, it seems like it would be objecting to her viewpoint, just when you had asked for it. You end up just offering her an understanding look.

"Oh, speaking of what you can and can't do, could you try something for me?", you ask Tina.

You pop off your head, dispelling your own guise, and hand to her. She seems very hesitant about taking your head, but eventually does so. She looks like she's afraid to drop it, or do something similarly wrong. You smile.

"You can do that hypnotism thing, right? I'm kinda curious if it works on me, so go ahead and try it".

She lifts your head, so that you're at the same level of height.

"Uhhh.. Suuuree..? I guess? Oh, but I want some blood afterwards, it makes me thirsty!"

The former part of her answer is puzzled and reluctant, but at the second part she's all smiles and joy.

"Heh, no problem, you can just drink afterwaaaahhss......"

Her beautiful green eyes turn red, with an unnatural shine to them, and... Coherent thought just leaves you. Things turn really blurry - not visually so, but how you experience them. Muddled. The only thing that is clear is that you have to obey. Have to, but more prominently, you want to. It's sort of similar to having blood drained by her, but more of a loyalty thing, rather than a pleasure thing.

...

When you come to your senses, you are still sitting in front of her, but with your head back where it belongs, and your disguise back on. Thinking back on it, it's a lot clearer than when you experienced it. She placed your detached head on her lap, and asked you to sing her a certain lullaby. After that, she just asked you to put your head back on, and that was it.

(cont.)
>>
You... don't often sing. Well you did. When you were just 70 or 80 years old, you got really into singing, after a caravan of performers had visited your town. Songs with a haunting tone or lyrics were your favorites. But it had been a while since you last practiced it. You do remember that Tina liked to hear you sing, but you had sort of forgotten. It had been a while since you stopped.

After that, you feed her some blood, as promised. A much better feeling.
When she's had her fill, you can feel an emptiness in your veins. You probably have around half of your blood left. But you're pretty sure you could just use negative energy to fill it back up, if you wanted to. It doesn't hurt, it just feels strange, so you save your energy for now.

...After that? You really can't think of much to do. Most of your stuff is in your wagon. So you decide to get some rest.

...

You wake up to the sound of knocking on the door, and a male voice says "I'm coming in". You sit up in your chair, and rub your eyes. A few moments later, a pale, bald, male, Human enters the room. He's apparently the one who will be doing the questioning. He's accompanied by a guard you recognize - the reptile Beastblood woman clad in gray, tattered, robes. A lot of stuff happened since you met her, but you remember agreeing to meeting up at the tavern tomorrow morning. And Sierra is with them as well, and she looks relieved to see you.

"Hiya, good to see you again,", the guardswoman says with a friendly greeting. "Just came along to see the questioning myself, don't mind me".

It seems somewhat strange, but you hardly have time to ask about her, before the questioning begins.

Once everyone is seated, the bald man starts asking about the combat, what started it, and how it went. He seems neither friendly nor hostile. And, like you planned, you go along with it with honesty, without revealing too much.

(cont.)
>>
The entire process takes about half an hour, after which the bald man says "that'll be all. You're free to go, but you may wanna swing by Milly, the Kitsune woman upstairs. I hear you did the city a good service, regarding some bandits. Good job on that".

It's a very alien feeling, being appreciated by people, and how easy it feels like you got out of what could have been trouble. You're basically just stunned for a few seconds, so Tina answers him.

"Happy to help ya! We'll go see about getting our coin for the job now, then".

...

Back upstairs, you meet with the familiar Kitsune woman. She gets up, and gives you a handshake to greet you.

"Welcome back, banditslayers. Seems your hearing is over? Good thing, can't have the guards going around making enemies of helpful & competent people like yourself". She flashes you a polite and approving smile, with a strange gleam in her eyes.

"..Hi", you simply say. It feels a little flat, but you don't know what else to say.

Nar & Sierra just keep to the background. Tina greets her as well, however, and speak to her.

"Hello lady! We were told to speak to you about the reward, for all that outlaw stuff?"

The Kitsune, supposedly name Milly, nods. "That's right. Your missions has been reviewed, and your completion is accepted. For bringing back 28 bandit heads, as well as delivering one alive, and uncovering an illegal fence in town, you are to be rewarded 350 gold coins, courtesy of Viscount Ragnar. 290 gold coins for the bandits, and he saw it fitting to add a bonus of 60 gold coins for 'being so thorough'. Ah, speaking of thoroughly slaying outlaws..."

She place her folded hands on the table in front of her, and adds pause. A grin spreads on her face, and she speaks up again.

"You wouldn't happen to know of a certain individual by the name of 'The Nightmaster'? I hear they may equal your abilities when it comes to slaying outlaws, and my lord wishes to reward them for their trouble, you see".

You remember the terror you inflicted on those poor bandits in the first encampment, the pure fear you distilled in their beings. It was a fun night. Should you reveal your actions, however? While additional rewards sounds nice, something about it all seems uncanny. But you've been wrong before - you do have a tendency to smell trouble everywhere and expect the worst from most people.

Not sure how you guys see it, but i think it might be better not to indulge that. That night had some questionable decisions, that we should better leave behind, especially since we made some discoveries about the effects of our powers.

I would propose we answer with a simple: I don't want to be associated with such a name or those deeds
>>
>>3115100
"And if I knew this person what would you have for her?"

If she has a reward say we can deliver to the person in question.

Never deny or cobfirm it is us tho, it can lead to our identity and our origin in Rydding.....but then again, there's no reason for the to be a secret since there's nothing left there.
>>
You're not the OG Weaver, right?
>>
>>3115146
>>3115145

I guess, but I think she knows it was us, she is just after confirmation, I doubt she thinks there is another dark elf necromancer with a danphir sidekick walking around.

I just want to know what they think, but not give the confirmation they want.
>>
>>3115100
"No sadly I do not."
As complicated as the situation is, let's TRY to get Tina the training she needs before we start confirming who we are. Lest it turns out that the people who want to reward us are actually trying to entrap us.

>>3115153
Pretty sure that this is a different Weaver.
>>
>>3115153
no, this is my first quest. if someone else used the name, maybe i should change it..
>>
You do remember picking that name, it seemed like a fun & fitting idea at the time. Maybe it could use some refinement, though? Either way, you're not sure what to answer the Kitsune.

Your nature bids you to be 110 % skeptical of this kind of situation. Of course if there's a reward, you'd be interested, but... It's difficult to answer when you don't know the outcome.

Ahh, maybe your hesitation already gave you away? You had better answer her..

"..No? Why, who are they?"

Milly recoils at that, she seems outright confused by your answer.

"I..-I see. I just thought that... Well nevermind. It's just that recently, someone killed a group of bandits, and rumour spread that some unseen hero known as 'The Nightmaster' was responsible. I was sure it'd be you, with your timing here, and the deed you did".

She clears her throat, coughing into her hand, as she straightens her posture.

"At any rate.. Should you meet them, please tell them that a monetary reward awaits them here, by the order of the Viscount. Ah, as for your own reward, let me show you the way to the treasury."

"....I-I made the name up o-on the spot", you mutter. "It seemed like a good idea at the time. It was something of a private matter..."

Damn it, why are you getting flustered? Probably because she seems more 'adult' that you. You're not sure why you have that impression of her.

You can see out the corner of your eye that Tina is watching you intently, but says nothing for now.

Milly stops walking and turns towards you, to hear you out.

"..So it was your group that did it?", she asks.

Taking a deep breath to calm down, you nod. You're not sure how to feel about the entire thing.

"Oh. Well.. Great?", she's understandably confused at your mixed statements. "Aaanyway, if you really are the one, not that I'm doubting you, you'll have to follow me downstairs for a brief questioning to receive your reward.. And if you want me to not tell anyway you did it, I won't. I'm sorry if I seemed pushy or the like about it, I just thought it was something you were proud about. Sorry.."

At the last 'sorry', she bows formally for a moment, before looking you in the eyes again, awaiting your answer. While you keep eye contact, her name appears before you. Yup, Milly is her name. You kinda knew that already. She then speaks up again, while fetching an exotic looking pipe which lights up once she snaps her fingers.

"No matter. But for what it's worth, I appreciate your work thus far. In my experience, maybe one out of a hundred thousand highway robbers deserve anything short of death."

Her tobacco smells spicy, and like smoldering rind from a tree.

yes, Alice's parents died in Rydding as part of the raid. At least that's the assumption, she never saw their corpses, but it seemed pretty clear that the town as a whole was demolished. So she just assumed that was the case.

but don't talk about our origins, there was nothing left for us there but both ours and tina's parents probably died in it

No really guys, I want Tina to actually have a class before we get started on the whole "Letmetellyouaboutmyentirelifestory" mode for Alice.
>>
>>3117139
And don't talk about origins I guess. Tina has to be ok with it for us to do it
>>
"Could we maybe just do the questioning up here? I've had enough of dungeons for some time.. Waiting for so long down there wasn't exactly fun", you offer.

"Sorry, it has to be downstairs, there's an enchantment in the interrogation room to detect falsehoods, that's why. I would accomodate you if I could, I know the cellar feels rather awful, and I apologize that you have had to wait, but.. Erh, protocol, I guess you could call it. You won't have to wait this time, however, just a few quick questions. I promise."

Huh, handy. Good thing you decided to be honest last time.

"I see. Ah, but before that - I want to know what your stance is, as the authority of law around here, regarding... Brutal executions? I may have gone a bit overboard with some of the bandits, and I don't want to stay if it spells trouble.."

Tina objects to your statement.

"Hey now, it wasn't all that bad. Besides, they had that and worse coming, for what they've done!"

Milly nods slowly while taking a drag from her pipe, as she takes in what you both say. After giving it some thought, she answers you.

"Strictly speaking, when it comes to highway robbers and their ilk, the method of execution is rarely ever examined that closely upon.. And I have never heard of anyone being punished for how they dealt with them. Sure, some people will frown upon it, but then again, honestly, some people will frown upon just killing them... You really don't need to worry. If anything, I'd expect more people to like you than dislike you, for getting back at bandits for what they've done. That'll include a decent amount of the guards as well, to my knowledge."

Oh? Interesting...

Totally want to ask Sierra how things went, guess we can do that waiting downstairs again.

Plan to tell the basic truth. We were nobodys in the village. Simple village folk with no real knowledge about anything and not really any future. It was attacked and families killed. We died too. But we (Alice) woke up with powers. Found my best friend dead, but not my family. Brought her back because - best friends and all alone. We chose to get the bandits back. Trying to walk a balance using powers for positive.
>>
>>3117347
Remember the cellar has lie detection. We can keep things thin on details, just no lies.

I'm aware that we're not allowed to lie. But we should be allowed to give the basic details of what happened.

This. I don't know why our background seems to be making some anons scared. It's normal to go for revenge killings, and the bandits deserved it.

Against this, is way out of how Alice think, not about being honest but how far her personality and how QM constructed her, telling her everything just cos being asked is not her.

Well, it sounds safe enough, and the Kitsune seems trustworthy enough...

"Alright, sure, lead the way", you agree.

Milly offers you a friendly smile, and leads you back to the staircase.

On your wait down the hallway of the basement, the guardswoman dressed in tattered gray robes meets you halfway there, as she's going the opposite direction. She seems baffled that you're on your way back down here again, as her walk grinds to a halt.

"Hey, uh..? What's up?"

Her question is directed as much to you as it is to Milly, who answers her.

"Nothing major, just...", she hesitates on how to phrase it. "Well, the group may be entitled to a bigger reward than what I had first assumed, we just have to confirm it."

The reptilian woman nods, still a little taken aback by it. She looks to you with discerning eyes.

"You're cool with this, right? I could tag along if you'd prefer"

Milly seems to take offence, though you can't tell if it's feigned or real.

She scoffs, "I resent the implications. What do you take me for, a torturer? I'm just gonna confirm her story. I appreciate this group's work, I'm not trying to entrap them."

The reptililian smiles apologetically while waving dismissively with a hand. "Now, now, I just wanted to be helpful to our guest, that's all, don't take it like that".

You interrupt their conversation by adressing snake eyes. "Thanks, but it's okay, I trust Milly on this matter".

"Alright", snake eyes answers, "I'll see you tomorrow morning then?"

You nod. Milly raises an eyebrow at that, but doesn't ask about it. Instead, you soon find yourself back in the interrogation room.

Milly's questions are pretty straightforward. You basically just confirm that it was your group who was responsible for the eradication of that particular group of brigands, and that they were all dealt with, to the best of your knowledge.

After no more than 5 minutes of that, she gets up and bows briefly to you again.

"Thank you for your cooperation. Now if you'll follow me, you will be properly compensated for your work. And you can trust me to be discrete about this group of bandits, if that's what you want. Although, are you sure you don't want Ragn- ahem, Viscount Ragnar to know about it either? I don't think he'll compensate you further, but it wouldn't hurt to have him know that you're a capable group. It would make it easier to get other jobs from him in the future?"

You shrug. "..I don't know. Maybe.. Not for now, at least".

"As you wish", she confirms, and nods.

Soon after, you're all lead back upstairs, and into a room deeper inside the building, where a dark, gray, solid stone counter is parting the room in two. On the opposite side of it sits a bored looking Human. Having visitors seems to brighten him up, as he sits up properly and greets you all with en energetic welcome.

"Ah, good day. To what do I owe the pleasure of visitors on this fine day?"

"Good day tax master", Milly answers him.

She then tells him about your accomplishments, but orders him sternly to not gossip about one of them. She then goes on to tell him that you're here for your rewards for all of your hard work. He seems confused about the secrecy, but agrees to not speak of it.

When it's all said and done, you're paid 70 platinum coins in a nicely stitched leatherbag, about the size of a head of cabbage. Tina whistles at the money, once you open it up to look at it.

"That's a lot of platinum coins!"

Sierra's eyes widen as well, but she says nothing.

The male Human smiles in satisfaction at the transaction. Once you've confirmed the amount, Milly leads you back to the room where she does her work, where she bids you a good day, and thanks you for your work again. She then takes a seat at her desk, and fish up a book, a pen, and some ink.

You politely thank her, and take your leave.

Back outside, it's afternoon about now.

Tina smiles, and says "well now we definitely have enough money for my training! Let's not blow it all at one place this time though". She then laughs a bit.

You smile and nod, "if I recall correctly, paying for training should be around 50 gold coins, so only 5 platinum coins... Heh, yeah, we should be able to afford it".

Now then, what to do, what to do... You agreed to meet 'snake eyes' in the morning for your trading permit, but other than that, you don't have any plans in particular. Well nothing other than paying for a proper meal for Nar, but it's probably still two or three hours until dinnertime.

I suggest go and check our wagon if everything is okey, let's take the cards and the books "A Recollection of the Lost" and "Wondruous Monstruous" with us and leave one or the two weapons we have (scythe and whip) to lighter our weight. After that go for a trainer to ask about different jobs/arts so Tina can make herself an idea of what to choose. As for Sierra, after she tell us about her end give her a little reward, not much cos we will still ended up paying her food and stuff.

Also I would like to buy a nice witch hat, a big one if no one oppose to the idea.

Maybe some shopping would be a good idea? You do have some coin now, and your life was in danger just earlier today, so an upgrade in equipment seems like a wise choice. It will likely prove prudent to stack your odds against any future dangers of that level. But before that...

"I don't know about you guys, but I want some new clothes". You look at you badly burnt blouse & hooded robe. Maybe a few sets of clothes would be a good idea. Everyone's clothing is damage to some extent, but yours are the worst off by far.

All three of them agrees in one way on another.

"Agreed!", Tina says, "we'll have to buy new ones, unless we wanna sew patchwork clothes of our current outfits, buuuut~, since we have the money for it, I think we should get new ones instead". Nar nods, and Sierra doesn't say anything.

Tina, sensing weakness, gets a subtly playful smile, place herself next to Sierra, and put an arm around her neck & look her in the eyes. "Don't you want a new set of clothes as well 'Sparks'?"

Sierra seems to think that Tina is uncomfortably close to her, and you can tell she's slightly intimidated by her as well. The fragrance of fear tells you that it's not a panicked sort of fear, but more of a healthy level of respect towards someone strong. You're willing to bet that it's because Tina has proven once already that she is able to mind control Sierra. Truly a scary ability. But if Sierra knew what you know about Tina, she probably wouldn't be all that intimdated by her. At the core of her being, Tina is a good person. And since you've taken Sierra in, you don't believe Tina would do anything actually hurtful to her. But that won't keep her from toying with Sierra like that.

While you're walking towards a the trade oriented part of town, and after Tina has stopped harassing Sierra, you decide to strike up some conversation. Maybe get to know Sierra a little. Couldn't hurt. And if you're gonna be travelling with her, you kinda wanna know her a little.

"How'd the Dwarf hunting go?", you whimsily phrase it.

Her ears twitch when you adress her. "Hm? Oh that. The situation was handled smoothly, miss Alice. It took a while to find him, the marketplace is a vast place after all. Once we found him, the guards were efficient in his apprehension. And that was the end of it. There was some confusion among them as to where I was supposed to go afterwards, but it got sorted out in the end."

Miss..? You cock your head.

"..Just 'Alice' is fine. But good. I was getting a little worried since it took a while".

"Is that so? Well if the guards hadn't figured out what to do with me, I could have been locked up for a while, until they found you - so your worry is duly appreciated". She smiles slightly at you.

"Gotcha. On a somewhat related note, what did you think of the battle? With that spirit or whatever near the graveyard".

"Hmm~", Tina interjects, "you think a lot about that one, huh?"

"It was dangerous, and I don't want to leave anything to chance. It may sound strange, but I want to improve upon everything I can when it comes to fighting for survival", you defend your point with a pinch of sarcasm.

As Sierra gives the matter some thought, powerful gusts of wind resounds throughout the streets, as something large beats its wings somewhere up above. Soon enough, the city's signature animal reveals itself - a group of five wyverns flying by above you. Huge scaly reptiles with strong legs, and even stronger wings, and deadly poison stingers at the end of their tails. These particular ones are packed with trading goods, and presumably mounted by a rider each. Their altitude is quickly rising, as they soar over the city. The city renowned for, and named after, its uniquely effective wyvern trading caravans.

Looking up at them, you imagine what it must be like, riding a flying fantastical beast like that. Maybe sometime such things will be within your grasp?

(cont.)
>>
It's an impressive sight to say the least, such fearsome beasts tamed to do the bidding of mere people. Judging by her expression, Sierra is equally impressed by the sound and sight of the monsters. She turns her head to face you again, after a short moment of observing the sight.

"Sorry. Erhm, yes.. I believe it would have been more efficient to have only a few people take the damage from that fiery blast that the spirit produced... Of course we couldn't have predicted its ability to have a large-scale magical attack like that, especially with how it appeared to be a melee fighter. Although, the lesson we can draw from this is maybe to always expect the worst. I'm not sure that spreading out is a universally sound strategy, but it's usually efficient versus casters of spells. In the previous battle, I wish I had had some distance, but I didn't think it would be necessary at the time ...I think that concludes my analysis."

That's definitely the most words you've heard out of her yet. As you walk down the crowded streets, you realize that in all of her talking, you haven't sensed any fear towards you from her either. Which is probably good. And her feedback seems to be thought through.

Good. Approving of her insight, and hoping to get on her good side, you decide to make a point of treating her like a regular person, rather than a criminal.

"Thanks. I see some of your clothing got scorched too, how about we get you some new ones as well, while we're at it? Plus, if you feel like you want or need anything else, feel free to say so. We have a bit of coin now, after all."

She nods. "Oh? That sounds nice. Unexpected, but appreciated".

...

(cont.)
>>
It doesn't take you long to reach the market place from the guard's office, and soon you're surrounded by traders, most of them have set up shop with some sort of booth to the side of the streets. Some are sparingly set up, with naught but a carpet with some wares displayed upon it. But most are at least tables with a large assortment of goods on it, some even decorated with a tablecloth, curtains, or the like.

A middleaged Human man catches you eye, as it seems he's selling wooden toys. Odd. Can you really make a living from such a frivolous trade? Though to be fair it doesn't seem like his shop is seeing a lot of traffic. He seems content enough however, as he leisurely carves a figurine, while patiently waiting for customers.

You must have letten your gaze linger for a moment, 'cos is seems like he noticed. He greets you with a nod and a wordless smile. For some reason the reaction fazes you, and you feel an annoyed shame flashing your mind. In your agitated state, you look away, and hastily walk on. Your paranoid mind assumes that the old man was judging you for looking at toys, given your age, but you're fairly certain that's not the case.

And all of a sudden you are getting deeply self-conscious, and defensive as well. Great..

Slow down. Deep breath. There we go..

"You alright Mistress? Ya looked like you were in pain or som'thin'?", Nar asks. Sierra gives the both of you a bit of a puzzled look, she probably hadn't noticed your mood just now. Tina regards you with the same old, calm, gentle, look.

Another deep breath. "Yeah no, don't worry about it. There's just a lot of people here, it's a lot to take in".

Moving on..

It doesn't take long to locate several shops dealing in cloth and clothing of various sorts. What should you get though..?

Your current attire consists of a set of simple pants, a cloth blouse, and a hooded robe as an outer layer. All of it in black. Other than that, you're wearing your hand axe in a belt, holding your combat scythe over your shoulder, and wearing a chainshirt armour between the blouse and robe. But your blouse and robe are badly burnt, and will need to be changed.

Maybe you should get something similar? The black hooded look does look kind of badass. But maybe you should try something else? Either way, you figure you should buy several outfits this time.

>Buy whatever strikes your fancy

[so far, broad hat is on the table, since it didn't see a lot of opposition when it was proposed. If you're against the giant-hat-trope, now is the time to speak up.
