/qst/ - Quests

Gunshots break the relative silence of the night as the final battle between Central and the gangs has started. Instead of rushing for cover the horde of teenagers continues running forward, knowing that they're going to have to reach the gunmen if they're to do anything. As you continue rushing forward with the front group you see the occasional teenager fall to the ground after getting hit with a bullet, the crowd parting to avoid trampling them. As your charge continues, the bullets...

The minor gang officer from before begins leading the way down the hallway. When he reaches the end of the hallway his head is blown clean off his neck, most of it blown into pieces, blood and gore coating the wall next to him. A very loud gunshot comes immediately before this. The rest of the group stops besides one unlucky fellow who was just behind the guy from before, and whose face is covered in blood. You see him say "Oh god. God. What! I can't see!" as he begins inching backwards. This is followed by another loud gunshot before you see a few bullets pierce through one side of his face, leaving him loudly screaming on the floor as someone drags him back. As you enter the 3rd floor you see that it's one massive room with lots of desks, computers, and filing cabinets. You guess this is where most of the administrative stuff gets taken care of. There's another staircase on the opposite side of the building and you see that a group of about 30 normal gangsters have appeared from there. You have your shotgun, pistol, and katana float by the door as you keep watch on it. Moments later a few loud noises sound out as the door collapses inward. You see a relatively large group of members from Central holding pistols, shotguns, katanas, sushi knives, and other weapons. You unleash your weapons towards their midsections, figuring it'll be less lethal than the head, and watch as a few people fall in front of the door. They shoot at the weapons themselves, but you're still able to get off quite a few shots before they enter the room and guns break. Your katana seems to have survived the onslaught, but you wouldn't be confident having it shot again You back away from the door and see that most of the fires in the room are put out, but that people have come from the other side and that at this point it's about 40 teenagers against a significantly larger number of armed gangsters. It doesn't seem like this is going to end well. After that you...

You look around for a short while and find Fukuda fighting off some guy with a baseball bat. After a few exchanges of blows she slams it into his face and he falls to the ground. You approach her and tell her to come with you. She seems to think that the situation has gone to shit as well and follows without any convincing.
You approach the door with Fukuda before grabbing onto her and telling her to hold on for a second. Before she can really process what's happening two bursts of energy flow through your body. You charge into the group of men, your katana floating around you helping to keep some space open. The energy wears off pretty quickly, but by that point you're past the majority of the men and it doesn't seem like they care about you leaving when they have more people to deal with.
You rush to the 1st floor and are close to the exit of the building when you see a man with red hair in black pants and dress shoes sitting down. He's not wearing a shirt and you can see a large bandage covering part of his chest. He has red hair and you recognize him as one of the men you stabbed, Ikura. He looks at you for a moment before picks up a pistol and a large, western-looking sword sitting next to him. You see him look at you, hatred in his eyes, before he yells "Well look at what the cat dragged in! I thought I might get to see you again if I stuck around here! The damn boss might have protected you before, but you're attacking us on our turf right now and I'm perfectly within my rights to maim intruders! He shouldn't care if I only take out a limb or two anyways, you'll be fine." He breathes in deeply for a moment before saying "How do you want to do this! You grab your katana and tell him to fight you fairly. He laughs before saying "Oh, so I get to give you back what you did to me! Great! You may have stabbed me last time, but without a shitty sneak attack at the last moment, you're screwed!"
Ikura charges towards you, sword in hand, and thrusts it towards you far faster than you would be able to thrust your katana. You feel your katana pulling you towards him due to his powers and you have to drop it, leaving you just barely able to dodge his first strike. His second strike seems like it's going to tear into your side as you hear a gunshot from the other side of the room. And then another. And another. As Ikura stabs into your side, you see his face go blank, sort of like he can't comprehend what's happening.
There are three wound in the side of his body, and he's simply staring at the wounds in confusion. He places his hand to one of them and then stares at the blood-red hand. Then there's screaming. Loud screaming. And now you're screaming. This sword really hurts.
After a moment Ikura, with an extremely driven look on his face grits his teeth and chokes out "I'm going to kill you. You little bitch. Goddammit. GODDAMMIT!" before beginning to pull the sword out of your body. As a massive amount of pain shoots through you you hear another few gunshots. More blood splashes over you as you see Ikura begin to fall towards you. There are holes in his head. Your invisible and visible arms hold his body up, but it feels completely limp, like it's devoid of force. After a moment you feel someone grabbing you, and you look at them. Oh, it's Fukuda. She's holding a pistol. She's crying. You're bleeding. You think you need to sleep again. This Ikura guy really has fucked you over again. You mutter a thanks to Fukuda before passing out.

An unknown amount of time later
There's light. A blinding light. This light fills your eyes as you slowly open them. You're on a couch in a room that you feel is familiar and you can't feel any pain now. You push yourself up and look around. After a minute you realize where you are. You're back in Kurosaki's house. You examine your wound to find it bandaged up.
After looking around for a moment you see a handwritten note on a table nearby. It says "Fukuda handed you off to me, she figured out enough to guess I could deal with the wound, and she didn't want the both of you to get arrested at the hospital. She told me to tell you that she won't see you for a while and to tell her even though you haven't known each other for too long, you're her little sister and she loves you. I applied some rare medicines to your wound, whenever you wake up you should be able to walk around. If I don't see you again, then I suppose I should be saying goodbye as well. I'm a relic of an older time, so I may as well do something good before I go. - Murata Hiroshi, Creator of the Black Vortex Dragoncrusher Style, Mountain of Inukawa, and Geezer" This note sounds rather ominous. You head up to the main floor of the library and ask the few members of the Norths who didn't go on the raid where Murata is. They tell you the location of his house and you make your way there. On the way you figure out that a few days have passed since the fight and that the gangs are for the most part dissolved. Apparently both sides took quite a few casualties, but it was mostly hushed up on part of Central and their friends in the police force. You don't think this would fly in most places, but the town does have a big problem with organized crime.
You make your way to Murata's house and knock on the door. After a bit Murata opens the door and looks at you blankly before saying "Oh, you're that kid, Jigoku-chan. Come on in." you follow him in and he sits down and asks "So, what'd you come here for?" as he chews on some snacks you don't recognize. You ask him where his grandfather is and he shrugs before going "I'm not really sure. He was dressed in robes with a pair of hiking boots and said some overly dramatic goodbye. Mentioned something about fighting a great evil. I didn't think much of it because he does it pretty often. Last time he did he lost 300,000 yen at the horse tracks. Do you need him for something?" This sounds pretty important." You mention that you're going to the forest to Murata and he simply nods before putting on a pair of boots and some thick clothes. He also puts a sizable knife into his pocket.
You and Murata get a cab and have the driver stop at a store directly next to the forest. Murata mentions that it feels like there's something ominous and the air and you agree. There's traces of smoke coming from the very center of the forest. As you approach the forest you...

You move towards the smoke over the course of an hour and feel the ominous feeling in the air slowly turn into a heavy feeling on your chest. You feel like you're in the territory of a dangerous creature and an inexplicable rage begins to well up in your chest.
At one point Murata simply stops and sits down. He tells you everything he sees is tinted in red and that he keeps having morbid thoughts about pulling out his knife and just slashing at everything, including you, and that it gets worse the closer you get to the smoke. He begins walking towards the opening of the forest and tells you that he'll wait for you there.
As you advance forward your vision also becomes tinted in red, although you don't feel any sort of murderous thoughts. You are angry, but it's not that bad. As you get closer to the smoke you see vague, red lights in the air. They seem to be pulled towards the same location as most of the smoke. You also hear loud crashes and sounds like trees crashing down in the woods. Your immediate thought it to head forward, but you still retain most of your reason. After thing, you decide to...

You move further towards the commotion, the red tint covering your vision greatly intensifying, before you see what looks like a giant blob of red in a completely destroyed and burning clearing. After focusing for a moment the red blob seems to form into a creature with the head of a lion, the body of something like a dog or cat, and with six slowly revolving, fox-like tails. Small faces seem to be floating in and out of its skin, all filled with rage and screaming. You can't hear them making any sound, but you feel like if you could that you wouldn't really be in control of your mind right now.
After seeing the giant blob's true form, you see it smash a claw into several trees, tearing them down, before spewing fire in another direction. You wonder what it's attacking, hoping that it's not Kurosaki, before you see him in another patch of trees about 20 meters away from the attacks. He grabs some sort of talismans from his robe, throwing them at the creature and causing small, popping explosions of blue.
A moment later his face turns into a grimace and his eyes widen. He seems to be looking in your direction. You take this as a sign to leave, but... you can't. It's all you can really do to not advance actually. You feel an angry, swarming rage swimming throughout your body, and just want to go up to the massive creature and pummel it. Or maybe join the faces within it, screaming your heart out. You're honestly not sure which.

OST: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xiiy8vEWj-g
At this point your body is covered in sweat, both from the fire and from your struggle with the rage in your mind. You want to smash. Kill. Scream. Your body involuntarily takes a step forward, and then two. Your vision is simply a stream of red with various faces swarming in and out of it. All of the faces are in a disturbing grin, screaming in a mixture of pleasure and pain. After seeing the faces you hear a cacophony of screams and begin screaming with it, never having been so happy to just release your voice. The faces seem to be smiling now, happy that you joined them. Just as you're getting into it you feel something shake your body, and your vision clears.
Kurosaki is standing in a heavily torn robe in front of you. You see one of his hands pushing back a claw from the creature, and hear extremely loud noises that you assume indicate their energy clashing. Kurosaki turns towards you and says "I thought I told you not to come to the forest?" before smiling and saying "Ah, oh well. At least my first disciple seemed to care about me, and that's good. Its been a few hours, and I think there's only going to be one way this fight ends, at least that I can think of. That makes it goodbye. Now get." Kurosaki then lets out a mix between a laugh and a cough, spitting out a glob of blood with it. Kurosaki mutters, mostly to himself "Everyone...thanks for helping me live. I may have been able to do more with my life, but I enjoyed it. And, well, I guess I'm doing something with it now after all. It's time for the mountain of Inukawa to rest." You...

You thank Kurosaki for being a great teacher and begin running away as fast as possible. As soon as you're out of the clearing you hear an extremely loud noise, and turning your head back for a moment out of reflex, you see Kurosaki, now bursting with muscles, exchanging punches and kicks with the creature.
The noises continue as you run further and further, but instead of growing quieter as you move away, they only grow louder. You can also hear more trees cracking than before. The force of their blows sends a mild wind in your direction. Eventually you slow down, worn out, and sit down before looking back at the site of the battle. The smoke is far thicker than before, and you see intermittent flashes of red and black light coming from the area. Angry and slightly pained roars from the beast are mixed in with Kurosaki loudly yelling, although you can barely hear it.
Just as you're about to get up and continue exiting the forest you Kurosaki say "Intertwined Dragons, Energy Self-Destruction." in an oddly loud voice. He doesn't seem to be yelling, but there's something odd about what he's saying or the way he's saying it that makes it carry all the way over to where you are. A few moments later you see a massive explosion come from the site of the fight. A mixture of red and black light appears for several seconds before both disappear. There isn't any roaring or yelling left, only small wisps of smoke coming from burning trees. You...

It's stupid but I want to believe. We should leave if we start feeling weird again, though.
>>
>>3118220
You make your way towards the few wisps of smoke left, keeping an eye on your condition, but you feel fine now. As you slowly approach the clearing from before you see large amounts of trees split from their bases, littered over the ground. Oftentimes the bark on these trees is scorched, but most of them aren't currently burning.
As you reach the clearing you see that all of the grass on the ground has been blown away and that what's left is a crater in the very center. You don't see any traces of the creature from before and you approach. Inside the crater you see an extremely old man covered in wrinkles, his skin loosely draped around his body. He seems completely void of energy, his completely white hair littering the ground. He's also missing an arm, but the wound isn't bleeding and you can't see the arm anywhere. It takes you a few moments to process that this is Kurosaki.
You walk into the crater and see Kurosaki's closed eyes slowly open as he stares at you. His mouth slowly cracks into a smile as you hear him say "I won." with as much energy as he can muster. You then see him curl up slightly as he breaks out into a coughing fit and is seemingly wracked with pain. He quietly says "I don't have much time left. I think I used up all of my lifeforce on that one."
You start crying before Kurosaki laughs and says "Come on kid, it's not that bad. At least I went out a hero. Maybe someone will write a book about me or something. I'll get a cool movie with Bruce Lee acting as a younger me. Although I think he might be dead too." He laughs to himself after saying that before breaking out into another coughing fit.
Kurosaki's breathing seems to be laborious as he begins to talk again. He says in a neutral tone "Kanozaki should be coming to town in a couple of days because I asked him to help with this. Shame we didn't have as much time as I expected. Tell him that I'm gone and that he should carry out the will I gave him last time. You'll get my hideout and most of the stuff within it, since I should be passing down some sort of inheritance if I want my technique to survive." Kurosaki pauses for a moment, coughing again, before you hear him say at a whisper "Just... don't avenge me. You couldn't handle it. Tell Kanozaki that too. I don't need him following me."
Kurosaki's eyes close for a moment before you see his withered body begin to try and lift itself up from the ground. You grab him and help him up slightly before he pats you on the head and says "Thanks, I didn't want to die in that position. Tell Murata to get a fucking life and that his gramps loves him." You then feel the warmth from Kurosaki's body begin to fade as the last of it seems to concentrate in his legs.
Murata Hiroshi, aged 74, died of unknown causes in the middle of massive destruction in Inukawa Forest. He was found with an arm missing, standing outside a crater. First-hand accounts report that he had a massive grin on his face and stayed standing after his death.

You returned home to a subdued atmosphere, learning that Fukuda hadn't returned home yet. The next few days passed in a bit of a depressed blur before you attended a small funeral held in Kurosaki's honor.
After the funeral Kanozaki approaches you and goes over the specifics of Kurosaki's will with you a bit. He also explains that Kurosaki was killed by an avatar of rage, formed from the surrounding killing and bloodlust. This was probably being done in order to create a servant or make some sort of powerful artifact. Normally it would take far longer to gain power than it did, but it seems that someone had allowed it to grow nearby before causing various gang wars and other incidents to stimulate its growth. Kanozaki says that he hasn't tracked down their exact identity yet, but that he has a few hunches. After that, you tell him...
>That Kurosaki wanted the both of you to forget about avenging him, and that you agree with him.
>That Kurosaki wanted the both you to not avenge him... but that you should anyways. You don't want to just leave him dead with resolving the situation eventually.
>That Kurosaki wanted both of you to not avenge him, but that you have a duty to do so as his disciple. You'll take care of avenging Kurosaki, so Kanozaki should let it be for now.

You tell Kanozaki that Kurosaki wanted the both of you not to think about avenging him, but that it doesn't feel right if you don't deal with his death yourselves. Kanozaki sits still for a moment before nodding and says "Yes, I was thinking the same, although he hadn't said anything to me about the matter. I'm going to go on a training journey for a few years in order to build up the strength needed to at least make a good struggle. I don't have much longer left at this condition. What about you?" You...

We have a family here, we can't just up and vanish, but we can train. A lot.

I'll leave this vote up for about a day since it's the last one and will matter a lot both for epilogue reasons/if I ever make a second part to this that'll be where it picks up from.
Feel free to shitpost, give me feedback, or tell me how much of a massive faggot who sucks at writing I am below.
Also, I may as well shill my next quest here, you guys did me the favor of sticking through 7 threads of my shit QMing. Thanks for that by the way. >>3118614

We should keep up with studies and practing with our arms whenever we're not training. Also should try to incorporate them into the style.

You don't withdraw from normal society afterwards, but, well, you can't go back to living life as you normally did. You spend most of your time learning how to get stronger from various videotapes and books that Kurosaki left behind. Along with that there are quite a few odd items he didn't sell off and left to you, and most of them are able to help you increase your strength.
Time goes on. You get stronger, Nakano transfers to a private school, and last time you heard about Hikaru he seemed to be slowly moving up the food chain in whatever gang he joined. Fukuda showed up after a couple of weeks hiding out, although she seemed worse for wear. Central never really bothered you again, almost like they wanted to forget about everything that happened. That was a bit odd.
Eventually your brother got accepted in Todai and became a published manga artist in a relatively large magazine. He still made doujin works on the side though, since he said he was never really satisfied doing only one thing. In 3rd grade Aizawa-sensei and Sakamoto-sensei got married. The wedding was nice. As the years went on Fukuda did, as you thought she might, join the yakuza. She got a pretty nasty scar on her face, but besides that nothing too bad happened to her. She moved up the ranks relatively fast once she joined.
Life went on pretty normally, and all of the chaos from before seemed to end. Your life, that was previously a raging sea, was now still. This lasted until the break between your last year of elementary school and the first year of middle school. It's the start of 2010, you're 12, and it seems like things might get interesting again.
End of The Game of Life Quest Part 1
Admittedly the part two will probably never come, but I think this is a decent epilogue if I ever want to continue it. Thanks for sticking with me throughout my shitty quest.
