Space: the uncharted frontier.
These are the voyages of the Alliance starship Quest.
Its five-thread mission:
To explore strange new worlds.
To seek out new life and new civilizations.
To dutifully wait for someone actually competent to finish the job.

But careers are made and broken by those willing to bend those rules and boldly go where no man has gone before!

This steadily updating quest will follow the exploits of an away team sent forth from a starship exploring beyond the borders of known space like a courageous mining canary.
Adventure awaits!

The first step is to establish command. We need to select the captain. Pic largely unrelated.
The captain will be an important figure in this quest, but not the main character, unless you choose for him to command an away team.
Our captain has called in any favors they might have had to get this, less than desirable, posting.
We need a reason for this:
>Young and inexperienced
They are one of the youngest captains ever to command a starship.

>Old and obsolete
Most of their friends, allies, and compatriots have moved on long ago, either retired or passed away.

>Fat and lazy
They probably could be a quite capable commander but, eh, that sounds like so much effort.

>Drunk and jaded
They have seen too much of the hardships of command and their remaining strength relies heavily upon the bottle.

>Disgraced hero
There was a mission that went horribly wrong, perhaps they were on the losing side of a war or were simply the officer in charge during a great disaster, and they, justly or unjustly, took the blame and now must reclaim their honor.

>Write-in
All suggestions are always welcome and will be mutilated, perverted, and included where appropriate.

The ship and crew can be selected using an abstracted system of “Cred”.
The captain currently has 0 Cred, so in order to spend any on superior choices, some must be earned by selecting flawed choices.

>SHIP
>Vessel Size (Pick One)
>Frigate
12 person crew that gives 1 Cred
>Destroyer
40 person crew that gives 0 Cred
>Cruiser
350 person crew that costs 2 Cred

>Technology
>Standard starship gear includes:
FTL Engine; Energy Weapons; Hangar; Shuttle; Sensors; Communication;
>Standard crew gear includes:
Energy sidearm; “Com Bracer” including basic sensors, communication, and data; Stylish grey uniform with colored shirt;
>Write-in
Any additionally requisitioned technology must be written-in, approved, and costs 1 Cred each.

>OFFICERS
>Number of Officers (1+)
>Having only one Officer gives 2 Cred.
>Having only two Officers gives 1 Cred.
>Having three Officers gives 0 Cred.
>Each Officer over three costs 1 Cred.

>Select Officer Training
(Medical, Science, Pilot, Sensors, Communications, Gunnery, Security, Engineering, or Command)
>Each officer has one training that costs 0 Cred.
>Each officer can have additional training at the cost of 1 Cred each.

>Alien Officer
>Each Starship can have one token alien officer costing 0 Cred.
>Each alien officer in addition to the first costs 1 Cred each.
>Write-in
All alien crew members can have various benefits and flaws must be written in and negotiated to be incorporated into the setting by the QM.
Specific intent helps clarify.
(ie: Vulcans do not exist in the setting, so an alien race with Vulcan mental abilities varies from one with Vulcan physical abilities or Vulcan technology)

>Officer Quality
>Each officer can be given 1-2 flaws giving 1 Cred each.
>Each officer can be given 1-2 advantages costing 1 Cred each.
>Flaws and Advantages can be combined, such as with a cowardly genius.
>Write-in
The flaws could be similar to those from the captain's list, or anything feasible. The same applies to advantages.
>The range of officer quality can range from:
Stellar>Skilled>Average>Flawed>Substandard

>CREW (Pick one)
>General quality, training, and experience of the rest of the crew:
>Elite
They are the best crew around and cost 2 Cred
>Seasoned
They have weathered many missions together and cost 1 Cred.
>Average
They do their jobs and cost 0 Cred.
>Inferior
Losers, slackers, and misfits, the lot of them, but they give you 1 Cred.
>Cadets
Dear God, it's full of Wesleys. They have no idea what they're doing and are convinced they know everything. You are given 2 Cred to herd these cats.

>>
>>3107910
If there's cred leftover, yeah, that's fine, but I didn't see where the extra comes from. There's +2 from only having one officer, and +2 from flaws, and then -2 for the cruiser and -2 for the crew. If the token alien officer makes it only +1 for having two officers (i'm not sure if they're counted separate from normal officers or if they take a slot) we could just offset it with a flaw though.
>>
>>3107897
this but I rather have an AI medical officer, a satistic megalomaniac who only doesn't experiment on the crew because it's bound to the ship. constant monitoring of everyone's health with no regard to privacy. No robotic body though. Just a disembodied glados voice.
Use the cred of her flaws for another officer. In navigation/piloting/evasion, your classical cocky asshole of an expert whose superiority complex is unfortunately based in real skill.

There's no reason to go cheap on officers. Having only one officer costs the same as having 3 officers with flaws.

>CAPTAIN'S LOG:
>Stardate: 121330185.OklOk.somewhere…
“It had been an alright tour so far. I had managed to keep our course mostly directed so that we were just following up on previous long range scans. Nothing too exciting. Just tracking the odd wandering mecomet or whatever. Well, it was good while it lasted.
“Today we picked up a large structure in a pulsar system that an old scan showed to be free of any activity. Visual confirms that it is a space station, although a godawful, alien monstrosity of one. Johnson said it looks like a spider and an octopus fucked each other to death. The deviant bastard isn't far off. It's built like a chunky iron tumbleweed forged in hell. Looks to be 16 or so spires connected together with some kind of stone or rock at the center.

“The ugly beast isn't reading much active power and I'd just as well leave the damn thing be but there are couple a problems:
“First, the brass are going to want to know how an old space station appeared in this system undetected.
“Second, there are life signs, dozens of really faint ones. One of which is definitely human. The others are… definitely not. That is all Lee, the Ensign I have manning the science station, could say. I don't figure she's to blame.
“She's a sharp kid, bit of a pill, always makes aface when she catches whiskey on my breath, keeps telling me the health risks of drinking even though the doc says it's fine as long as he keeps switching out my liver for fresh ones. I stopped asking where he's getting them or why it makes my piss purple.”
>>
>>3109789
...
“Anyway, there are life signs onboard the blasted thing. Which leads me to the third problem. The station is on a decaying orbit. So, in a few months time, when the brass finally send somebody else to mop this up, the whole thing will be falling into the damn pulsar.
“On top of that, there's a crashed ship in the mess. Maynard, he's the Ensign herding the others down in engineering, said that the make of it is definitely Terran [non-Alliance human]. He said, judging from sensor readings Johnson got, that it looks like someone tried to fly off with the ship still attached with docking clamps. So the ship tore off a chunk of the station’s hull before spinning into another spire. Maynard said that the damage shouldn't be enough to disable any space station he's ever seen, but he's never seen this wad of space shit before either.
About half the spires are tipped with strange solar panels, half the rest have what we're guessing are energy shield emitters. The rest have some kind of tech on them but Johnson said he'd eat Ballard's seat if they were weapons. He swears that if the station is armed, they're hidden.

“Ballard says ships communication won't have any trouble with the pulsar radiation. But she said the thicker hulled “knuckle” shaped areas on those spires are heavy shielded against the rads so comms might only work in the walkways. So, we might lose contact with the away team.

“Ugh, sending an away team over to a derelict space station. Lt. Rhys seems to think it'll be a treasure hunt. It'd really piss him off if I didn't have him lead it. That's half a reason to right there. Christ, there's no way this ends well. Who the fuck do I send?
“The shuttle holds eight comfortably, but we usually send half that many. Might need medical, so I could send “Bill” to get a little experience or one of his fellows. They're decent medics.
They'll need a pilot. Ace has been nagging me to let him prove himself if I feel like chapping Rhys. That Ace kid is bucking for a promotion, but officer exams are a ways off. I could send some security too.

“And where should they dock? Near one of the strange emitters? As close to the wreckage as they can? Near a central hub of “knuckles”? Right up on that stone?
“Damn it!
“One thing is certain. It's time to switch the scotch to a single malt.”

What does your Away Team plan on doing?
>>

Dock
>Wreckage
There is probably not a real docking station so we have to create one and we might have to cut through the hull of the darn thing.
Team:
>Engineering
If we need to cut in it's the engineers who have to do that. they should be fitted with sealed suits, as we probably can't tell what the atmosphere on that station is like, even if one human life sign is detected, theair might still carry alien bacteria and the last thing we need is to get ourselves an alien plague.
Also because Engineers are most likely to be able to make sense of door controls on that thing and might be able to bypass the wiring for them.
And yes, duh, send some security too.

So... send two shuttles. One shuttle to dock on an artificial hole we make, and serve as a quarantine vessel, and a second shuttle which docks on the first so the Away Team still has a chance to get away quickly without loosing any progress in case shit goes south.

>ENGINEER'S REPORT:
The trip to the strange alien station went uneventfully enough. I believe Ensign Kelly was grateful she did not have to ride in the shuttle piloted by Sergeant Johnson.
Once we arrived at the station, we were able to clearly make out what had happened. The small frigate had been docked at a junction of three corridors.
Where the junction had torn open, it was clear to see that the three corridors had been joined into a sort of foyer. But all of that had been torn apart and ripped open to space. The frigate itself had slammed into a corridor near another reinforced room.
We chose to cut into the wall of the corridor nearest the crash site and we were able to use a secondary umbilical to actually connect up the frigate as well. This was aided by one of the ship's airlocks being left open to space. The cutting process took a while but not nearly as long as if we had tried to access the reinforced area.
Once we boarded the station, we saw that the reinforced room had been welded shut from the outside. Fortunately, the damage from the crash had weakened the door joints so we were actually able to remove the door frame entirely.

Once we affected repairs to the frigate and we were able to repair atmosphere leaks, we discovered that, while the frigate was too damaged to be spaceworthy ever again, we were able to get the engine started and life-support pumping into both the frigate, the corridor, and the reinforced room. The corridor stretched a distance but eventually lead down to the torn apart junction. So we sealed that end off.

Security checked the reinforced room and found it empty aside from a large number of containers in one large object in the center, running dormant off battery power, that seemed to be a very oversized container about 10 ft long and 3 feet wide and about 4 feet tall. The only other entrance to the reinforced room appears to be another door on the opposite side, presumably leading down another corridor. However, that one is also welded from the other side.
...
>>
>>3112042
Leaving the station, we investigated the frigate. We were quickly able to determine, after a brief conversation through the shuttle comms system to Ballard on the Quest, that the frigates registration is for a Terran vessel known as the Cornflower, captained by a Mr. Harbatkin. Captain Harbatkin has three arrestt records for illegal salvage and a vessel matching the Cornflower’s description was sighted several systems away attempting illegal salvage within the last month. At this point, we concluded that these Terrans were, in fact, illegal salvagers, scavengers.
We have yet to determine what happened to the crew. There was no one on board the frigate and they left no record of what they were doing here, which makes sense if they were performing illegal salvage.

The crew consists of Captain Harbatkin, a Merc named Drake, and three civilians Terrans by the names of Simmons, Jacoby, and Jones.
It's noteworthy that the cargo hold was empty. So whatever they came to salvage, they didn't get far enough to haul anything into their hold. Also, they had space for 10 atmo suits but six are missing.
Upon completion of searching the vessel, Sergeant Johnson concluded that the two female members of the crew had “boring underwear” and the doctor commented that the medical facilities were “disappointingly under-utilized”.

We are proceeding forward with exploring the reinforced storage area upon the station.

Ensign James sighed as he pushed off the comms station, stood up, and then exited the shuttle. He still had to offer Johnson their plans for proceeding forward with the strange alien object.
The possibly dangerous, strange alien object.
The possibly dangerous, strange alien object that Johnson was, James sighed again, leaning on while staring at an ensign's buttocks as they searched in a crate.

“Sergeant Johnson? Regarding that device your, um, leaving on… There are three ways we could proceed forward with it. You see-”
“How much longer do we have to keep these suits on. I mean, Ensign Kelly has a damn fine ass but you can hardly tell with the way these stupid environmental suits hang on us!”
“I suppose so, sir. But until we're certain of environmental dangers I think it's wise to keep them on despite the temperature and air quality be survivable. Also, sir, that isn't Ensign Kelly, that's Ensign Maynard.”
“What? Really? Well, any port in a storm, I mean… But that's just what I'm talking about! We got to get out of these just as soon as we are able to. Tell Kelly that I'll help her out of hers myself.”
“Sir, you do realize that the microphones in our helmets are all interconnected, don't you?”
“Yeah, so?”
“...Anyway, I wanted to tell you about how we should proceed forward.”
“Yeah what is this thing?”
Ensign James winced as Johnson slapped the unknown object. “We're not still not sure. And we won't know until we power it up but we don't know what that will do because we don't know what it is. So, we can either power it up, try connecting its power source to the terminal in the wall to see what we can learn, or we could try connecting the frigate’s power source directly to the terminal, but I'm not sure if that's compatible or not.
“Also, these crates just seem to contain either those silvery clothes in very small sizes or those glass containers that the doctor seems to think would be excellent specimen containers if we can figure out how the electronic lids worked. Doc's still off searching for the direction of the various life signs, I believe.
“Once we have this room fully searched, and we decide how to proceed with this object, we should either cut through these doors or find another place to dock with one of the shuttles.
“What are your orders, sir?”

the object is not a problem right now. We need to further secure our position before doing anything that has a chance of being stupid.
First: The remaining life signs. See if we can get the frigates scanners online to zero in on them or if the shuttles we used have something like that. I wouldn't be surprised if that thing might even be a stasis pod or something. Anyway... even if they are criminals, we shouldn't let them fall into a pulsar and/or get irradiated to kingdom come from it. That's also why we keep our suits on, so our junk won't fall off.

So... secure position, explore what we can before completely breaking through the wall, but start on it.
Study the object from outside better before we hook it up and set off a bomb or some hostile alien jumps out and tries to lay its eggs in us.
And, even though it's in bad taste, scavange their med bay at the very least

“Well, this thing” Johnson began by slapping the side of the object again, causing James to pinch the bridge of his nose, “is not a problem right now. We need to further secure our position before doing anything that has a chance of being stupid.”
“Well, sir, it was more about accessing the station systems than it being a prob-”
“First:”, the sergeant continued, ignoring the engineer, “The remaining life signs. See if we can't get the frigates scanners online to zero in on them or if the shuttles can help with that. We should find those ladies. Even if they are criminals, we shouldn't let them fall into a pulsar or get irradiated to kingdom come from it. Hmm… Maybe we should keep our suits on afterall, so our junk won't fall off. Eh, James?”
“Well, these levels of radiation, even in the corridors, are only really dangerous over longterm and… You know what, you're absolutely right, sir. We should keep them on to protect our, uh, junk.”
“Right. no rads for the nads. So... secure position, scan and explore what we can before completely breaking through the wall, but start on it.”
“Yes sir”
“Oh, and scavange their med bay at the very least. See if you can scare up some of those “mood enhancers” Terrans chicks go for.”
“Uh… yes, sir”

...

Doctor Ouphesharc was more than han happy to bag up their medbay and store it on the second shuttle before helping make sense of the life sign readings from the shuttle. The frigate's sensors were totally boxed. The results were surprising.

Ouphesharc reported that every life sign on the station was stationary and very, very faint, as if they were all very near death. And if the readings are to believed, the one human life sign is located near, but not in, the central hub. The other life signs vary, but appear to be mammalian and approximately two thirds the size of a human. There is one other exception, one life sign was very hard to detect due the powerfully protective shielding. It's coming from within the object. It's exact nature can't be made out.

“I knew it was a stasis pod or something!” shouted Johnson.

Maynard reports that the sensor readings indicated a stable, if stale and cold, pressurised atmosphere on the other side of the door. Also, a small energy signal that matches Terran technology, a few feet from the door. No life signs or indication of an immediate threat nearby.

>Study the object from outside better before we hook it up
So everyone, are we:

>A. Finishing cutting through the door and exploring the next corridor without attempting to access the station's systems.

>B. Connecting the "stasis pod" power source to the wall terminal to access the station's systems and then explore the next corridor. Engineering is convinced that can do so without activating or opening it.

>C. Connecting the frigate’s power source directly to the wall terminal to access the station's systems and then exploring the next corridor.

>D. Attempting to determine the contents of the "stasis pod".
It could be a second Terran, afterall. Engineering is uncertain if they can access the information or view the contents without activating it, but they believe that it should be possible.

Ensign James was nervous.

The engineering team had slowly and carefully isolated the circuits they believed would activate a portion of the control terminal of what they believed to be a stasis pod. They believed that it would allow them to learn more about the device and possibly its contents. Hopefully, they would be able to do so without actually activating the device. And they had succeeded.

Unfortunately once they accessed the data the entire terminal was in a language the translator device could not comprehend. Although, at least, they were able to confirm that there was a humanoid biped inside, by a vague pattern display.
There was one word that Ensign Kelly believed she recognized but she had to connect to the Quest via the shuttle comms to confirm or translate the exact reference.
>>
>>3116708

Ensign James was panicked.

Shortly after Ensign Kelly had left, Ensign Maynard had been able to access the vitals display for the occupant of the pod. Dr Ouphesharc had been examining the data when suddenly, without warning, the power systems of the pod started activating themselves and activating circuitry even as Maynard and James had been disabling it. It had made no sense. Each time they cut a connection, another was rerouted. A simple power cell, what should be just a battery without any programming at all, was out-hacking them.
And before they could any real action at all, a large panel door opened up on the top of the pod and a thin mist escaped, obscuring their vision. Maynard shoved James back as he and Doctor Ouphesharc peered in as the mist cleared.

Ensign James was horrified.

Doctor Ouphesharc muttered “Oh, I was not expecting this. And Maynard simply replied “Oh crap!”
To their credit security ensigns Fisher and Romano we're already moving forward to pull the doctor and Maynard back when a clawed reptilian hand about 2.5 decimeters long reached out of the stasis pod grabbed one by the head. The massive claw ripped the head free, throwing it against the back wall. Another arm quickly grabbed the body and threw it in the same direction, striking the far wall with a sickening wet thud.

Ensign James is terrified.

A deafening guttural roar emerges from the stasis pod “Aşağı”. And then, a 2.5 meter tall reptilian humanoid leaps up and strikes the other nearby crew member, who crumbles to the floor instantly. James scuttles backwards in fear even as Fischer, Romano, and Hall open fire with their sidearms.

The energy blasts hit the reptilian it the chest, which seems to be protected by only a thin cloth garment, but the blasts seem to do no damage whatsoever. It shrugs them off as it clambers out of the stasis pod. It makes that same guttural roar again, “Aşağı”, and this time translator in James’ helmet chimed in with a helpful translation: “Inferiors”.

Sergeant Johnson is partially concealed by one of the crates and is lining up a shot of with his own sidearm. The others are keeping their distance but still firing. The alien seems to be feeling each blast now, but largely ignoring them as it slides its clawed hand alongside the side of the pod, as if feeling the surface for some reason.

James was struggling to think of what he should do.

Lure it away from the fallen crew member, hope to get it into another room and try to lock it in and go Aliens on this bitch. Cut the life support system and air out the room while our guys are still in our suits. The fallen member might still be ok, depending on the suit and its damage.

Even if the creature thinks it's superior to us, we still have the numbers advandage, and the moment it realizes we cut the air it will be distracted enough so we can come up with something.
It is currently on a ship foreign to it and would have to get creative as well.
As energy blasts don't seem to work, go with good old fashioned weapons, even if it's a loose pipe.

“Ensign Kelly, keep your tight little ass on that shuttle, I have a plan.” orders Sergeant Johnson.
The comms simply fizz-crackles in response. “Damn shielding, I-”
Just then, the reptilian looks up from sliding its claw along the pod to glare at the men firing at it. Johnson takes his shot.

The energy blast hits the creature right in the eyes, causing it to stagger. Then it turns towards Johnson, still behind the crate. “Hold your fire guys, I'm gonna try some diplomacy.” he smiles. “That's right you great sexy beast! That was me! What's a guy gotta do to get a little loving attention from a pretty little thing like you?”
The reptilian snarls and turns back towards the pod. Johnson pushes himself up and leaps onto the crate he was standing behind and shouts at the fearsome alien. “Hey! I'm talking to you, baby! I could show you a real nice time. I could do all kinds of nasty things to your cloaca. Ever got a rim job from a mammal before? Once you go warmblood, you never go back! Come on, your sister liked it when I silently pounded her last night!”
At this, the translation software manages to chime out: “Dün gece, ben senin kaplumbağa arkadaşının kıyma bağını bağladım.” The reptilian stops and slowly turns around to glare at the sergeant. He holsters his sidearm. “That's right! I wanna iguana!” He turns around, looks back over his shoulder at it, and slaps his ass. “You know you want me to break a piece of this off in you!”

Ensign James begins to consign himself to the fact that his commander has gone insane and they were all going to die.
>>
>>3118304

The reptile lunges faster than Ensign James had imagined possible. Johnson thrusts himself forward in a sprawling leap as the beast's claws smash through the alien crate. The sergeant lands on his feet bolting towards the entrance, shouting as he flees. The ferocious alien knocks the crate aside and pursues.
“Ready to knock out our patchwork! Engineer, ready to seal the door quick when I get back!”
“But sir! We removed the door- Shit!” Ensign James scrambles to his feet.
Fischer and Romano take positions on either side of the doorframe they had removed to enter the reinforced area. Hall moves to join them but Ensign James stops him. “Grab them” as he points to the fallen crewman “and bring them to the other door.” James finishes cutting through the other door as Kelly's voice crackles over the comms “Sir, what-”
“For the love of your luscious tits close that hatch!”

Seconds tick by in tense silence as James cuts the remaining metal. From down the corridor they hear a roar, a crash, and an energy blast.

A few more tense seconds tick by.

“Fuck! Shootshootshootshoot!” Johnson commands as he races past the security ensigns braced on either side of the doorway. They fire at the weak point in the repair work in the corridor and the wall gives way, explosively decompressing into space.

The reptilian alien drops to the floor, sinks its claws into the metal, and even as the air pushes against it, it pulls itself towards its prey.

“Money shot!”
A squirt of viscous ooze flies into the reptiles face, distracting it. Fischer and Romano fire their weapons into the metal flooring it's gripping and the alien menace flies free out into the cold vacuum of space.

“Well, that went great!” exclaimed Johnson.
“Sir?” asked Fischer. “What was that stuff you squirted at it?”
“Oh, that was just something, a medical vial the doc gave me to uh, to clear up, um, nevermind. Oh, yeah, hey. Is the doc okay? Getting ripped apart like that?”

“Actually,” replied Doctor Ouphesharc's burbling voice over the comms, “that was not as unpleasant as this insufferable cold! My suit is in tatters and I had to retreat into one of the crates. I barely had time to grab my comms before you nearly froze me solid. If one of you could pull the crate nearest to my suit into the frigate, I think I need one of those spare suits if I am to render aid to Ensign Maynard.”
“Yeah, doc. That's a good idea.” answered Johnson. “Actually, I might need to change into one of those clean suits too.”

Ensigns James and Hall heard none of this exchange, however, as they had gone through the other door. The shielding from the room and door blocked the comms. Hall tried his best to initiate first aid on the unconscious Maynard while James quietly stared at the corpse of Captain Harbatkin.

>CHIEF PHYSICIAN'S REPORT:
“Doctor Ouphesharc reporting.
“Ensign Hall and Ensign James were able tube patch up both Maynard's suit and his injury enough to get him to me onboard the second shuttle. I'm feeling much better now that I've had a purge and this new orange suit from the frigate holds me nicely by the way.
“I was able to stabilize Maynard and determined that his shoulder is badly injured and he has several broken ribs but doesn't appear to have any internal injuries. He does seem to have a severe concussion and I am concerned about brain damage and would like to, well,, you see, I have these wonderful enzymes that I believe would rectify any brain problems he might be developing. In fact, I do believe they'll leave his brain working even better than before! I'm really curious to see what they do.
“Alternatively, I suppose Ensign Hall could take the patient back to the ship on the second shuttle, accompanied by myself or not, and then return after getting Maynard to the perfectly capable medical ensigns onboard the Quest.”

“On a personal note, I would like to add that would much rather remain on the station to see any new injuries. Oh, and, um, treat them of course.”

>ENGINEERING REPORT:
“Ensign Kelly and I, uh, Ensign James, were able to use pieces of the frigate to repair and re-patch the corridor allowing it to once again be safe for them to explore the station. The stasis pod remains active and empty. None of the pod's system displays are in any language that they can can be determined. The word that Ensign Kelly found earlier was a reference to its occupant which was referred to as “üstün” or “superior” in Gormek.”

...

[GORMEK REPORT]
Of course, every Alliance traveler in this area of uncharted space have been warned about the Gormek.
A number of years ago, an Alliance cruiser encountered a Gormek cruiser in an uninhabited system. The Gormek Vessel demanded the Alliance vessel surrender for violating gormek space when the alliance Captain attempted to apologize and get some indication of what the borders of Gormek space were or how they were marked.
The Gormek insisted that all systems, all planets, and all people belonged to the Gormek and were Gormek possessions. The interaction escalated into a conflict when the Gormek attacked the Alliance vessel and the two cruisers fought a desperate battle ending in a stalemate. After which, the Gormek declared victory, proclaimed that they were “sparing” the Alliance vessel, and left the system.
Since then, the Gormek have been an elusive threat looming in the uncharted regions of space. Merchant vessels that deal with the Alliance have stated that the Gormek are ruthless conquerors and that most races they encounter do what they can to appease them without conflict.
However, the Alliance is hopeful that the battle, the evenness of the ship's, and the lack of any following military action, indicate that the Gormek consider the Alliance to be a formidable, or evenly matched, adversary.

...

“It remains unconfirmed if the alien within the stasis pod was a member of the Gormek race, but it seems likely as they are reportedly a fearsome reptilian race. The stasis pod only contains limited data on the aliens physical nature, but it is still valuable intelligence for the alliance. It is noteworthy that neither the technology of the station nor of the pod shares energy signatures or any design similarities to that of the Gormek vessel. Nor is the language of the pod's system similar to that of the language spoken by the Gormek.
“The options regarding the stasis pod are few. We could attempt to bring it onboard the first shuttle, but it is quite heavy and whatever is creating the gravity onboard the station remains fully in effect. The pod itself seems designed to be extremely sturdy and could possibly even withstand the destruction of the station itself. We could also attempt to copy as much information directly from the stasis pod and then use it to power up the terminal in the reinforced room that we are currently based. Or, we could take the time to examine the stasis pod thoroughly right now where it is.

“Fischer and Romano reporting that there is no increasing activity nor any apparent movement on Doctor Ouphesharc's sensor scanner.
“The corridor beyond the reinforced room has been secured to the extent of visible range, until such time as we receive orders to explore further. Visual examination of the corpse of Captain Harbatkin and the surrounding walls of the corridor indicate that the captain had been in a firefight and lost. It appears that the captain engaged in most of the firing, although the firing pattern seems odd. He appears to have missed repeatedly but aimed in the same spot and fired repeatedly before moving on to a different spot, while not hitting anything, but continuing to fire in the same spot. Neither Ensign Fischer nor Ensign Romano have ever seen anything like it before.

We should probably hurry up, signal blips are always stealth ships. That said its always suggested first thing when stealth ships show up so maybe blips are just a common thing. But someone with a higher tech level then the Gormek snuck up on and kidnapped a Gormek. So heads on the swivel.

Ensign James wipes the sweat off his brow and takes a moment to catch his breath while gazing out the shuttle's viewport at the other shuttle as it gently moved away. Thinking about Maynard, his injuries, and how now James himself is the ranking engineer on the team, dread replaces the pride he had been feeling, like the air filling his lungs.

They had tried moving the stasis pod by hand but, even with all of them pushing, it wouldn't move a bit. They couldn't even rock it on to an antigrav lift. Kelly had gotten the brilliant idea to attach the repulsers from the lift directly to the pod. Once the pod was 100% deactivated, they tried it, and it worked. They still needed everyone pushing and guiding it to maneuver it into the shuttle, which was a little cramped now, but it had been an impressive bit of engineering.
Engineering he understands. He knows. This station is full of things he has no way of knowing. Like Maynard had no way of knowing.

“Here you go, James.” Romano says as he plunks a chunk of tech into his hands, breaking up his cloud of thoughts.
“Huh? What's this?”
“Fischer thinks it's Harbatkin's personal comms, like our bracers. Figured you could see if there's anything useful on it.”
“Oh, right.” Doctor Ouphesharc had confirmed that energy blasts had been the cause of death, but they weren't like Alliance or Terran weapons. Then he had security wrap up the body in those silver clothes and tuck it into the shuttle, for “later”.
Glancing around, Ouphesharc’s restocking his medkit. Kelly’s checking out the pod's securing. Johnson’s checking out Kelly and offering his “assistance”, the damn pervert. The two security are… doing something security-like with their weapons.
Time is tight now. A signal blip could be anything. It could be trouble coming.
But the device seems to be in fair enough condition and he should be able to get something off it in the time before they explore the rest of the ship.
After some repairs, some minor hacking, and some data recovery, James was able to retrieve one relevant entry:

Ensign James stares intently forward as Fischer and Romano led the way down the dark corridor. There is no immediate way to tell how the walls, ceilings, and floors were constructed and they all had ridges suitable for climbing in zero g, despite the station's use of gravity.
Normally, James would be fascinated, but right now he is transfixed by each decimeter of the path in front of him as it is revealed by the security officers’ bracer lights.
At a steady pace, they reach the next reinforced area, encountering little of note, aside from a few additional weapon fire marks on the walls.

Carefully, they enter the room and, once they all had entered, seal the door behind them.
James puzzles over the room, which is odd and seems to have no clear purpose aboard a space station. There are several rows of short, backless seating attached to floor surrounding a large rough stone in a hexagon. The stone is uncut and rough on the outside but has been hollowed out and smoothed on the inside, not unlike a tub. Otherwise, the room is empty. Each of the four wall has one door and simple pegs sticking out about a meter high.
The entire away team looks at one another in confusion. Eventually, it is Ensign Kelly that broke the silence.

“...What the hell is this place?”
Amid the murmurs of confused assent, Sergeant Johnson's voice struck out. “I think- I…” To Ensign James, Johnson’s face suddenly looks like he has smelled something strange. Suddenly, the commander snaps his fingers violently, producing a quiet yelp from from Kelly. “Mudwrestling!”
Kelly groans. James swears under his breath. Fischer and Romano begin trying to triangulate their location within the station. And, Doctor Ouphesharc tracks the life signs.
“No, really guys, it fits!”
Doctor Ouphesharc confirms that the life signs remain unchanged, but many of them seem to be in the direction of the door opposite the one they entered from.
“See, they get naked and hang their sex robes on the pegs…”
Kelly, James, and security coordinate their data with the doctor's to reason that they are at a junction of two spires. One spire runs from the massive rock, through this room, and towards the central hub. The other spire stretches from the shuttle, through this room, and further on towards one of the tips. It was unclear exactly where it terminated. Of course, A lot of these determinations might be mistaken because the spires twisted around each other so much.
“And see, then two or three of them get into this tub here and they fill it with, I don't know, gelatin, or something, and then they wrestle it out. While, you know, everyone else sits here and there pleasuring themselves.”
All corridors have pressurized, if cold, atmosphere but no power.
“It's pretty obvious now that I think about it.” The commander looks at the rest of his team as they look to him expectantly. “....what?”

“I think we should probably stick together and take control of the central hub, then the station, and then see what we can about those life signs.” Johnson commands.

The team proceeds through the left door in the same order they had before: Fischer and Romano take lead with Kelly and James behind them, the Doctor behind James and, naturally, Johnson behind Kelly.

It isn't long before the team comes across the first body.
Clearly not human, the roughly meter tall corpse lying naked on the corridor floor is nearly hairless but with odd, scraggly patches of dense fur-like hair in various places. The skin hangs loose and is badly mottled and discolored while it's face has a scrunched, feral appearance. It has sharp talons at the end of its six-fingered hands and feet.
Doctor Ouphesharc is fascinated but can't confirm the cause of death. Before Ouphesharc can complete his preliminary observations however, Fischer and Romano find two more bodies while scouting ahead.

The next two bodies contrast sharply. One is very similar to the first, but the second is clothed in those silver pajamas found in crates earlier, although the feet remain uncovered. And also, it is covered head to toe in that scraggly, dense fur. Doctor Ouphesharc notes that both bodies bear energy weapon wounds, doubling back to confirm that the first did as well. The terrible condition of the skin had prevented previous detection.
With three bodies to compare, the doctor believes that the skin blemishes and hairlessness might be symptoms of severe, long-term radiation exposure. Such damage would have had to have come from radiation levels much higher than those from the pulsar at this range.
Ensign James discovers a small energy weapon near the clothed body. He suspects that it functions similar to a primitive Alliance energy sidearm, although he can't recognize the power source. Ensign Kelly agrees.

Continuing on down the corridor, there are eight more bodies found. Three of them are clothed and one of the naked ones had died from blunt force trauma to the skull, the rest had died from energy weapon blasts. Fischer, Romano, and Johnson each collect a weapon from a clothed body before moving on.

Ensign James smiles in relief as they arrive at the next reinforced area. The door opens easily and they all enter the room.

It is a large circular room with eight identical doors exiting it.
Ensign Fischer immediately turns around and marks the door they had entered with a vertical black line. Then marks the others, going counter-clockwise, 2 through 8.

At the center of the room is a wide column with what appeared to be four short work stations with monitoring equipment, panels, and displays. There is also a hatch door into the column. Two of the station's look alien enough, but are otherwise unremarkable. Another station has a large, odd-shaped hole, as if a piece of the panel has been removed. The fourth station has several pieces of Terran equipment attached to it via cables and a portable powerpack that look kicked over. Several Terran lamps are connected to the powerpack as well.

Ouphesharc tries to find life signs while security ensures that the doors are secure. Each door only locks from inside. The hatch door on the column won't open and appears locked.
Ensign Kelly and Ensign James, with Johnson leaning in close to observe, determine that they should be able to start the station's power systems and control it directly without using the computer systems of the station. It seems like the crew of the Cornflower had a similar idea and already done most of the work, but the powerpack had been kicked over and some cables are disconnected.
It should be a simple fix.

After a quick tutorial from Ensign James, Fischer and Romano each circle around the room, manually locking the doors. James joins Ensign Kelly in surveying the progress the Cornflower crew had gotten with powering up the station. Fischer finishes securing the last door, and to be thorough, checks the hatch door on the central pillar and finds it locked from the other side. James and Kelly reconnect the necessary wires to the powerpack and, after getting the command, start the power.
Nothing happens.

A quick review of the connections confirms that their work is fine and, tracking the alien circuitry, they determine that the problem should be a simple disconnected wire inside the pillar. With security watching over, Ensign James cuts through the locking mechanism and opens the hatch. Inside is a seated woman in an orange suit like Johnson, Ouphesharc, and Harbatkin are wearing. A Terran energy weapon is clenched in her hand. Her dead, lifeless eyes stare forward at James and the door. James is grateful he surpresses his scream.

Security removes the corpse from the pillar of alien wires and equipment. A cursory examination of the body by Doctor Ouphesharc confirms that it is the body of the crewmember named Simmons and that her cause of death was asphyxiation. There is no damage to her high-capacity air system, she apparently had simply locked herself into the small room and stayed there until she ran out of air.

James and Kelly found where a large cable had been pulled free and recconnected it. The powerpack thrummed on.
From the Terran controls and displays now attached to the stations power systems, several systems are available on a rudimentary level:

Having established basic controls. They turn on the station's power.
>POWER CELLS [80%][ON]
Lights wink on, making the auxiliary Terran lights redundant, but the engineers still get them back on too.

A quick check confirrms that the computers are still offline. Also, although the terminals at each door appear functional, without computer support, they display nothing.

Johnson frowns. “Damn, not even a lick of alien porn?”

Sergeant Johnson nods solemnly as Ensign James waited for a reply. “...well sir?”
“Well, what ensign?”
Ensign James sighs. “How should we proceed?”
“Oh that. Can we get any of that data?”
“Unfortunately not, sir. It seems that the aliens physically removed the archive. I believe that's what is missing from that panel over there.”
“What about this one.” the Sergeant says as he jabbed a finger at the screen, indicating the “ACTIVE [1 FILE PENDING]
“No-sir, wai-”

ACTIVE [1 FILE PLAYING]

“Oh. I didn't realize it was a touchscreen. Cool.”
“Yes, sir.” An image of one of the brown fur covered, scrunched faced aliens filled the display and began speaking an alien language. This one had weathered, yellowish markings around its eyes.
“I mean, you weren't touching it.”
“Yes sir. There are sensitivity isuues.” James works furiously to make certain that on this recording was being played. “There doesn't seem to be anything besides this message, sir.”
“Can we translate it?”
“The translation device is working on it, but so far nothing.” The message reaches its end and starts over.
Ensign Kelly, who had been confirming that no data could be recovered from the hardware, pipes up “Wait! What was that at the end?” Everyone, including Ouphesharc, Fischer, and Romano, gathers close as the recording repeated. At the end of the alien's message, it stiffly says something with a different sound to it, as if by rote.
“üstün itaat edilecek”
The translation device responds “Superior obedience.”

“Huh.” Sergeant Johnson sagely comments. “What about those security feeds?”
“Um, sorry sir without the data or any operating system we can't-”
“Actually, we can!” interrupts Kelly excitedly. “The power cells are bridging connections and I was able to access the feeds.”
“That… shouldn't be able to just happen.”
“I know! It's wild isn't it?”
“See ensign!” interjects Johnson as he gives Kelly a congratulatory slap on the ass, letting his hand linger. “Another reason to keep a great set of tits around.” Not looking up at the screen, and giving her ass a firm but gentle squeeze, he asks “Can we see where those life signs were coming from?”
Ouphesharc adds “They remain stable and mostly nearby. Although, hmm…. It seems one from the nearby cluster is gone. The human lifesign is still present though.” Ouphesharc and James compare data to find the right camera while Kelly tries to diplomatically extract herself from Johnson's groping hands.

Kelly has a firm grip on each of Sergeant Johnson's wrists as he attempts to lean in closer to her with his body. Ensign James cleared his throat. “Sergeant Johnson. I have the screen ready.”
“Huh, what, oh, um, let's see it then.”
James opened up the Security-Dormitory option and moved through several cameras. “There about eight rooms like this one.” The room shows a medium sized room with eight canister shaped objects. Unlike the stasis pod they found earlier, these chambers more closely resemble the design of Terran stasis chambers and these also look far less durable. There are two distinct things about this room from the other cameras. One is the presence of a helmet like the ones the crew of the Cornflower wore, lying on the floor near one of the chambers. The other is a small bit of mist gently rising from the far left chamber, which is open.

“Wait, is that-”
Johnson is interrupted by the distinct sound of Door 2 being attempted to be opened. The sealed and locked door clicks and knocks, unmoving.
Doctor Ouphesharc raises his scanner and says in a burbling whisper “There are no life signs coming from the other side of the door.”
