Deep within a dungeon, where patches of moss grow thick and the roots of trees pierce the old rocks, is an old chamber. As long as you can remember no one has entered here, any traces of human activity obscured by the dust of time, leaving you all alone in this figurative limbo.

You are the most valuable, and only, treasure here. Who are you? And what is your form?

From out of nowhere, memories of your past life floods your consciousness, a headache following after. You were a NEET that finally decided to visit the world outside your apartment door after playing the most recent game that just came out. Sadly, and perhaps comically, it was actually the worst decision, a truck crashing into you at a top speed. Pain wasn't felt during the whole ordeal, but that's a minor problem, as you find yourself upon a pedestal inside an old dungeon.

Inspecting yourself in a more detailed manner, you notice that you're form isn't a human's. You've turned into a spear!

A singular glass eye from which you see out of is built right under the spear blade, the materials worked into a crimson hue. You're new look is quite foreboding, right out of a demon's arsenal to put it simply, resembling a dangerous rose. The blade itself is quite thorny, with markings that look too much like blood vessels, going up and down your form.

Quickly does your mind resort to panic.

< What?-- How? Spears don't simply appear out of nowhere! They definitely do not! H-How did I become this way?! >

Eventually, after letting out the raging confusion that was born from this strange phenomenon, you regain some amount of peace. Still, the fact stands, whatever has happened is not natural by a long shot.

Your singular eye rotates around, scanning the area that surrounds you. You're presently in a empty hall, a wide staircase leading up to a stage from where your pedestal stands. Behind you is a skeleton of man, tied up against a rock with a sword and shield in each hand, mysterious symbols encircling the structure. If you strain your sight just enough, you could see a chariot a ways from the skeleton. You try to move but it was impossible to do so, mainly because your form lacks the autonomy of a living organism, your being contradicting that sense.

"Hello?! Can someone hear me?!" you shout, your echo traveling down the long corridor.

No one answers your call after a solid minute or two. At least you have the ability to speak, right? The thought of a forced silence would drive you crazy, and you already have the crippling loneliness that is this dungeon to being with. The need to move is absent too, or rather, the sense of touch is absent. Only your heart's rhythmic beating remains organic, and you don't even know if that's just an illusion.

---

Gradually, minutes turned to hours, and hours turned to days. The loneliness that has been with you from the very start becomes overwhelming. Never did you thought that such feeling would be a pest for you, the loneliness from a NEET lifestyle different from the loneliness right now. It casts a gloomy shadow over you, but you can't help but be desensitized to occur any reaction, remaining with the hovering consciousness inside your nonexisting chest.

At times, you would try to wiggle, only proving further that the ability of movement is far from your reach. And at times, you would call out again, for a chance that someone will come to inspect the voice that comes from this dungeon's hall.

But it changes when you finally hear the angry yells of men, and the patter of delicate feet. It woke you up from sleep, your eye swiveling to the direction of the sounds, the only direction that's down the giant corridor.

You call out again in haste, "Anyone?! Where are you?!"

There was no reply that answered, but instead, you could hear the rapid sound of footsteps growing louder towards your direction. Following after him or her are the barks of men, clearly infuriated by the speed of the person they're chasing. Anticipation takes place once you have been recognized, scanning the area twice as fast for any figure, expectations raising themselves sky high.

Then, at the far distance where vision barely cuts off, is a dark-haired girl of what looks to be fifteen years. The soles of her shoes are muddied, black burns tainting her simple tunic that brings the smell of fire to you. Her panting becomes ragged as she snaps her head to and fro, looking for the voice that she heard, your voice.

The girl runs to your way after finding things futile, the only place for refuge as the entrance she came from is occupied by the men who are chasing her. Like how a child cowers in fear from the monsters in the closet, she hides behind the pedestal that you're placed upon, ignorant to your presence. Thereafter, men of barbaric proper, fitting of the word brigands, come, searching for such personage.

"Huh?" she said, looking around again. "That voice again?..."

"Up here, wait, don't, you'll be seen. Anyways, I'll ask again, what's happening?"

As confused as she is, coping with the fact that she's possibly talking to no one, the girl answers. "Bandits, brigands, they came to the village and, and--" She stops herself, one of the men shouting to the others. A tears drifts down her cheek with trembling eyes.

"Where's the gal?! The young ones fetch a high price in the kingdom over!"

"She went in here, idiot! Shut up and keep searching. There's no way that she has escaped!"

A black aura radiates from your form, grabbing the attention of all three brigands within the corridor. The loneliness is now long gone, replaced with a malevolent instinct that is certainly from the spear itself, not you. By either coincidence, or other forces, the surrounding light becomes dim, your display now more pronounced.

"Who dares step in my chamber? Three mortal fools of the earth that can be easily broken as a branch? Three mortals of salt and sand that stand before me, puzzled?"

The shock from your sudden announcement and vile disposition makes the brigands freeze in place, and by consequence, the girl hiding behind the pedestal.

"The hell? Who are you?" said one of the three, grinding his teeth, searching around himself in circles.

Your voice changes to a rougher tone, silencing them again, "I have no reason to tell you, useless sack of flesh! My body is nowhere for you to see, as by doing so, it will only waste the precious time I have! Can you harm what is is invisible? Can you do such? Unless you have some kind of magic that let you does so, I can only see you on the dirtied ground, dead."

You seem to have provoked the men, but they stand their ground out of hesitation. After all, what you said amounts to some truth.

"Don't fuck with us! Think tricks will help you?" One of the brigands throw a torch to the side, letting the moss and leaves go up in flames. Swiftly, the fire then spreads until the right wall is burning bright. "Come out! Doing so will give ya a painless death! Unless you want to be burnt alive like a witch!"

The black aura grows intense, condensing into a thick mist which mixes in a dark shade of red, sprawling across the floor until it envelops the feet of both the men and the girl's. It's heavy enough to feel like a liquid, putting out the fire that reaches to the ground, excluding the spread that's higher up. The brigands could easily exit the whole place by going back from where they came, but refuse to do so, as the alarm you have caused keeps them locked to the ground.

And, to be honest, the whole act is tiring, not that you have any sense of exhaustion.

The red mist grows in volume, filling the floor until the brigands' knees are obscured, the girl's head just above.

"Guys, let's just get out of here!" one said, shuffling towards the entry way.

The remaining two followed suit, and soon, all three of them are gone.

Accomplishing what you needed to do, the mist subsides as fast as it came, your mind returning back to your usual nature. For good measure, you tell the girl to stay for a while. You don't know if they have the patience to wait for her, but there's surely a chance that they will.

---

The day moved on in silence, accompanying one another while the sky cycles past noon. In the corner, a ways from the broken chariot, is the girl, her knees tucked under her arms as she waits for your voice. She still doesn't know that it came from the spear in front of her, or perhaps, she does, and is unsure what to think. Saying it out loud to other people will make her out to be crazy, and presuming that her village is gone, people will have more of a reason to think so.

Through all of this, you haven't moved one bit. Maybe she'll take you if you ask of her, well, politely enough. She wouldn't want to bring a weapon that looks like it could curse her.

Finding that now's the right time, you speak to her again. "You, girl, are you alright?"

Like her previous response, she shifts her head back and forth to look for the source of your voice. Her hair flings itself wildly, ebony black in color and roughly cared for due to the lifestyle of a common villager.

"Over here, the pedestal," beckoning her.

She gets up, dusting her lap before meeting your form, centered within a stone plate. Her eyes connects to yours, gasping in reaction.

"No, no, no, wait! Ain't gonna harm you, nor am I harmful... I think. Anyway, I'm the voice!"

"Y-You are?... No type of weapon can talk like that!"

"That's obvious for the both of us."

The girl becomes silent for a moment, contemplating what to say next . "What was that weird mist from before?-- Who are you?"

"Just knew I could do that just now when the situation called for it. Helped you in the end didn't it?" The girl stares at you blankly, nodding her head, "As for my name, I'm..."

Catching your tongue, you realized that you don't remember your name. It's there in your memories but you can't recall it.

Many does not know the stories that goes about me, and I expect that existing ones are now told to children. Such are the effects of time. And, for a very long while now, I've been kept in this dungeon up until this point."

"If you would, take me with you," you said, surprising the girl. "I think it's time for me to be in the hands of someone else."

"But I can't take you like that! It would be, how do I say it, weird? Weird for a girl to have such a weapon."

"Think of it as granting me a favor," you reasoned. "I helped you from those bandits, and in return, take me as your possession."

It took a while to break through the humbleness of the girl, but she relented, grabbing onto your form and carrying you between her arms.

"I haven't said my name did I?" she mentioned.

"No, I don't think so."

"Well, I'm Valerie. Is it okay if I call you Gaia instead?"

"Call me as you wish. But don't forget my true name!"

With you in her arms Valerie traversed the dungeon, arriving at the surface soon after. A giant cavity that dug into the air is the entrance of your origin, leading to a lush forest where the smell of smoke wafted through the air. Valerie caught the scent as well, rushing to where her village is, or, was.

Toppled houses, mounds of ash, and bloody bodies devoid of life is all that's left. Disregarding the loss of others, Valerie ran to her own home in the hopes that her father is okay, only to find another blackened pile. Unable to bear the sight she forgets you, dropping your body down to the ground and sifting through the ash and rubble. You could only watch yourself, strangely confused more than anything. The picture doesn't strike a sad chord with you in comparison to the digging Valerie.

"I don't think that's going to be of any use, girl. The damage has been done and you've been doing this for a while."

"But Father might be still alive!"

You push yourself to say more, "I'm pretty sure that no man could survive under that rubble, and by the looks of it, everyone has been killed. I've also noticed the lack of... children."

Valerie stares off behind her, scanning the closest corpses to find your statement true, eyes phasing in and out of denial. Her hands are full of ash themselves, stained grey after grabbing and throwing huge clumps of soot, trembling.

"But what am I going to do?" she mumbled. "I've lived here my whole life, what am I going to do then?"

"... We can talk about that later. Like I said before, find something that could help you. Tools, money, food even, items you can bring along since it's already the afternoon from the looks of it," staring at the sky.

Glancing back to the crude grave of her father, Valeria reluctantly heeds your words, picking you up off the ground and walking towards the other sites of debris. She doesn't shed a tear, but you can feel her shake, taking a few steps at a time in the hopes that this was a dream. It isn't though, and that's the reality that this girl refuses to believe, yielding to the thought after seeing too much of the sight.

She begins to search, displacing wooden logs that are too heavy for a girl of her stature, and dragging bodies to the side to her dismay. Periodically, Valeria would collapse, getting back up after encouraging her to carry on, despite being bad at words yourself. She voiced her concerns and worries about taking from the dead, feeling wrong from doing so. But she understands why she must, continuing on.

"I'm sure that these people won't mind!" trying to cheer her up, "After all, wouldn't they want you to live on? From what is sounds, everyone was pretty friendly to you."

"I understand where you're coming from but it doesn't make things better. Do I not look like a thief? What if someone mistakes me for one? It's all..." Valerie quiets done, her sentence unfinished.

"No one would mistake you for a thief, and if you were, you wouldn't look like one." The girl doesn't replay.

Valerie was successful in her search, obtaining a small bag of coins from a buried body, dusty clothes that are in a way more healthier condition than her current wear, a small knife, and an empty waterskin.

She checks the small pouch of coins first above everything else. "There's not much, just a few silvers and one gold piece."

"Tell me about your country's currency," you requested. "I do not know what value your coins hold."

"I only know a few bushes with edibles berries, and I hunted rabbits before, though, nothing bigger than one."

The stream that Valerie mentioned wasn't too far off. It ran through the whole forest in a gentle speed, fish jumping in and out of the water. You asked her if she could fish herself, the girl telling you that she can't. Thereafter, she collected the water like you suggested, washing her face a bit before returning.

You suggest that Valerie should forage for food, to which she agreed, finding patches of bushes that bared fruit within the outskirts of the burnt village. You trusted her judgement, the girl picking out a few handfuls of berries and piling them up inside a basket that was found on the ground, bringing them back to enjoy them herself. For a short moment, she left you while going off to change into the clothes that she found, a few sizes too big for her. But Valerie didn't care much about it, she was just thankful with having it, even though it's a bit dirty with dust and ash. Better than nothing.

"Do you perhaps know anyone outside this village? Any family?" you questioned.

Valerie shook her head, "No, I don't. I lived most of my life here, and my family as well. The only times that I left were trips to the nearby city for materials, a port city that's awfully rich."

"How far away is the city?"

"Not too far when taking a horse, but by foot, it's a considerable length. Will probably take till evening, maybe when the sky's just turning orange."

"How about taking me for a spin? You're going to have a spear with you so you might as well practice with it."

"Huh, you sure?..." Valerie said, snapping out of her trance. She was staring at the rubble around her mindlessly until you spoke up. "What am I suppose to do?"

"Hunt an animal maybe? That should help out if we're going for something small. Deer works."

"That doesn't sound too bad," thinking it over. "Fine, I'll try. Being surrounded by dead bodies doesn't... doesn't make me feel well."

Leaving the area, Valerie holds takes you along into the forest, her grip tight around your form's shaft. She doesn't seem to have a problem holding you, perhaps you're lighter than you thought or that she's stronger than she appears to be. Either way, having the strength to hold you is reassuring for a young woman.

After traversing through the thicket, Valerie suddenly crouches down behind a bush. "A grand horn," she whispered to you, your eye catching a sizeable moose that could rival a grizzly. "Should I?" she asked you.

"I heard how dangerous moose can be, we should leave it."

Valerie nodded, shuffling the opposite way to avoid contact with the giant beast. But everything goes wrong when she trips over a root of the tree, yelling the way down. The moose instantly shot its head in the direction of Valerie, effectively alarmed and readying itself for a fight.

Valerie recovered, keeping low and continuing to go backwards, however, the moose approached her. You could feel the fear in her grasp during all of it, the beady eyes of the animal staring down upon her.

"N-No, no, no..." mumbled Valerie, her breathing picking up tremendously.

Valerie keeps the distance between herself and the moose, pointing your blade forwards at it throughout the way. The moose itself daunting, standing tall with an intimidating air, although you yourself knowing that its a common reaction with large animals of its kind.

Moose are stupidly tough and dangerous. Did you know that they hold the record for the most human kills of any herbivore on the north american continent and, when hit by a car, it is often the CAR that comes out worse from the impact?

Yeah, let's not mess with the moose.

The moose went on its own way after a while, a wave of relief going over Valerie when the sight of danger is nowhere present. You told her that she should keep on searching for something else, but this time it should be beginner friendly. As uncertain as she was, Valerie went deeper into the forest, periodically making a mark along the way to keep herself from getting lost.

"There, that should work," you said, Valerie catching sight of the subject. It's a small deer, antlers grown high but not developed enough to be harmful.

Valerie crouches down to the ground again, getting closer and closer while avoiding its vision. She soon gets in close proximity to the creature, enough for your head to stab it at maximum length. But before she could do anything else, you advised that she should get even closer, Valerie moving a few more ways nearer.

Instructing her to aim the blade at the deer, she holds her arms in the same position until you give any further commands, doing so after you're sure that the deer won't escape. The animal was only able to turn its body halfway to the left, getting a good look at Valerie before she plunged you into its side. Being soaked in blood wasn't all that bad, it's just a warm wetness, however, being inside a body, let alone piercing a heart, is another experience. You could feel the beating of the pumping organ, hearing it pound rapidly until death took place quickly after.

The next thing that you didn't expect is the effects of your blade that was previously described as thorny. Said thorns, or barbs, jutted out, creating a messy work of the deer. Once Valerie pulled you out, the thorns broke off and reformed to its original state without any discrepancies.

Valerie was surprised at the sudden transformation of the animal, a normal deer becoming laden with red barbs. "Wh-What did you do?!" looking you right in the eye.

I'm willing to bet she doesn't have the strenght or the precision to reach the deer's heart, so this was either very lucky of her our we guided her hand, which is good, since this way she will be competent regardless of previous experience

"You're forgetting what kind of weapon I am. But to answer your question, I killed it."

"I can see that," the tip of her mouth frowning slightly. "What I'm really alarmed by is how you did that to the deer from the inside out."

Valerie went by the ruined corpse of the animal, prying, picking, and removing some of the thorns, but giving up as there's too much, seemingly hundreds, of little red spines poking outwards.

You thought how she was able to down the deer in one shot, and how she got so close without being noticed. "I'm surprised that you were able to do this yourself. You said that you hunted rabbits earlier today, no? Is that the reason? Or did your father teach you anything?"

"No," Valerie said, unsure. "Rabbits are hard enough prey to catch and my father was a farmer. It's... weird."

"Please, explain," wanting her to elaborate upon the last bit of her words.

"Whenever I have you in my hands a strange feeling fills me. Like some innate instinct or skill, I suppose."

"Then how about the moose? You weren't the most professional during that moment."

"It's hard to say. I wasn't trying to explain some type of courage-- and trust me, facing off that grand horn moose was... horrifying," pausing for a moment. "A-Anyways, I'm trying to explain some sort of effect that sharpened my senses basically. Something whispering to me to aim for the heart, my mind and strength enhanced. The stranger thing is that the voice, the something, wanted me to kick you at the end of my foot, the spear. Is this your doing?"

Valerie's confused about the answer you gave her, but is content with it nonetheless. She leaves the spiked mass of a body and retreats a little from the path she took through the forest, aiming for other animals that won't serve as a frustrating task or a fearful opponent.

Although an amateur at spear-play, from your own discernment whose person was a NEET you remind yourself, she's a considerable handler, striking rabbits, fish, some abnormally large birds, and occasionally another deer that's actually developed. It was somewhat easy-going; of course, Valerie will fall prey to her own mistakes like miscalculating your reach and accidentally going for a fatal strike that you have previously instructed not to do so.

The effects of your blade and form as a weapon is peculiar. As long as she doesn't destroy the heart of a target no thorns will sprout throughout its body. You realized this right after Valerie continued to practice with other animals, her first few killed by an abundant of faulty strikes made by her, dying of blood loss rather than anything else. No barbs on any of their corpses.

---

After the day progressed, the Sun passing by three-fourths of the revolving sky, Valerie picked up a few dead bodies of rabbits to eat. It took a while to start a fire by herself once back at the village, sighing thankfully once a few embers turned to a flame.

The rabbits were cooked in no time. This of course not being a modern era, the food wasn't as desirable-- But you're a weapon with no sense of taste, and Valerie herself seemed to enjoy the meal.

"So, Gaia, what now?" taking a huge bite off the side of her meal.

"Huh? What?" your eye rotating to her.

"If I immediately go to the part city after eating we'll arrive a few minutes past the evening, thought about it during my hunt."

Valerie came back to you with a sizeable bag, enough to the food, pouch of coins, and a knife. She wasn't able to find a bedroll however.

"How's this?" she told you, showing you a piece of cloth. "I made sure that it's not bloody."

"What's that for?"

"To cover you. You already look out of place in me holding you in my hands."

Valerie starts wrapping you with the cloth. The fabric is just thick enough to hide your true color, your blade covered more cautiously. Once your glass eyes was obscured, your vision 'extended', letting you see past the cloth itself. Done, she packed all of the aforementioned items in the old bag, hanging it on her shoulder with you leaning against the other.

"Before we go, could you tell me how I look?"

"I don't follow," you said, puzzled.

"My clothes. Does it look strange enough that it might draw attention?"

You remember Valerie changing into another pair of clothes that she found, but never taking notice of what it looked like. Now, you have a better idea of her appearance when she mentioned it.

Her clothes are big overall, being a unique picture picture as a whole. Valerie's tunic is tied in a knot at the end to shorten it, the collar too deep for comfort. Previously, she wore a skirt, but is now wearing shorts that go past her knees, the waterskin hanging by the belt-loop. The masculinity of the wear contrasted with the clear femininity of her body, Valerie's ebony hair being a distinct detail, even if its dirty.

It took a while to finally leave the thicket, seeing a vast plain up ahead from out of the initial spawn of trees, stretching more than the eye can see. The difference in land lets the wind blow past, free and at a constant movement without any obstacle to block it. The same dirt path is much more cleaner than it was in the beginning, devoid of animal tracks and mud, the grass at the side swaying to and fro in unison. Everything seems to be smooth sailing from here.

You both arrive at the city's walls when the Sun's halfway under the horizon, the sky vividly colored in a warm purple. A few guards are standing by a gate, an apparatus keeping the iron bars upright until its operated to close, and alternatively, open. Right now, there's a little amount of people that are trying to enter the city such as merchants or the common traveler.

Valerie goes to the back of the small line, confronting the inspecting guardsman shortly. He looks at her, furrowing a brow when he diverts his gaze to you, a long object wrapped in cloth.

"Any identification, gal?" he said first.

"No, I don't."

"What's your purpose for coming to Taulen?"

Valerie takes a second to answer, "W-Work. Came from... from a village from a nearby forest. Wanted to find a better living."

The guard crosses his arms, keeping an eye shut and the other cpen as he taps his feet. He nods thereafter, "That's understandable. Mind if I check what you're carrying? Even if it's not a lot I still have to do it. Especially that," pointing at you.

Valerie lets the guard check the small bag, seeing nothing but a half-eaten piece of rabbit meat, another pouch, and a knife. He gives it back without a second thought, wanting the suspicious item on her left shoulder next.

"Do you need to? Really?" trying to reason with the guardsman.

He first unwraps the top of your form, revealing the spear-blade. "A spear, gal?"

"Am I not allow to bring any weapons to Taulen?"

"You're able to. Just have to be careful." He then uncovers a large portion of the cloth. Luckily for Valerie, she's the last person in line, so no one's here to witness your image. "This guy is pretty peculiar, seems magical too. Is this cursed by any chance? If so, then the consequences for misusing it will be harsh, worse if you get in trouble with the Church of Sizudra."

"No, it isn't," speaking some amount of truth. She doesn't know the full definition of your power.

"Well," wrapping you back up to give you back, "You're free to go. But be responsible with that thin', don't want a young gal locked up in jail."

Passing by the surprisingly lenient guardsman, Valerie wandered down the street where the surrounding buildings lit up the evening. A few ships can be seen afar, floating atop the moody waters. Along the stroll, she pulled out the coin pouch to recount the money that she haves currently, four silvers and one gold coin.

"Valerie, do you know any places for work? Or perhaps ideas? You don't have a lot of money to lean on."

"Like my father, I was a farmer, kinda. I mostly helped him by taking out weeds, plowing the dirt, or feeding the horses, not like any of that could help me at the time being. But... I have an idea, a place."

"What is this place then? You seem hesitant on it."

"Getting a job at a guild. I'm sure I came across one on my previous trips here, though, I can't remember where. Never got a closer look since I had nothing to with it as a village girl, and that the people there are, uh, a unique bunch. Rogues, bounty hunters, other races, a weird crowd," listing off a few types of people with a distasteful tongue. "Leaving the kind of people that go there aside, taking up a job is dangerous, too dangerous even."

"Why's that?" familiar with the concept.

"Monsters to put it simply. Things stronger, things bigger, than I could expect myself. Think of going against that same moose, but it's much more volatile in its strength. That's why I'm so uncertain about joining a guild."

"A guild? So there's more of them?"

"I believe there is. The one I'm talking about, the hunters guild, is the most common. There's another association, along with a couple more separate types, that's entirely for mages and their practices, magic. But I have no abilities in magic."

Our little girl was spoked when she killed a rabbit it's suicide to go after monsters
It's a city aka hungry mouths galore
Let her gain experience by hunting big game and selling pelts/meat
>>
>>3106207
She's also a weak normal girl so we should hire urchins to carry the game
>>
>>3106210
Or we could just cut the meat and hunt things that she would be able to carry.
>>
>>3106212
The small dear she killed should weight 50kg/100pounds - thats as much as her own weight. The same stands for the medium predators that are likelly to cross her path(wolves, big cats, etc) The moose that scared the living out of her weight 10 times that.
She could carry only the pelts but, not only are those still too heavy for a girl, she is too squeamish be near a dead animal I doubt she would be able to skin it
>>
>>3106212
She could make them her companions and food and equipment would suffice as payment
Also she would be making conections with street rats which = info+some protection from the less savory members of society

"It's late. Do you know how much a room at an inn cost? You have been through a lot so a nice night of sleep will do you wonders."

"A room costs fifteen coppers, so I can only stay for eight days if I don't spend the gold coin."

"That's fine, we should go to one then."

Valerie, being unfamiliar with most of the city except for districts she frequented in the past, managed to find an inn. The woman at the front counter wrote her up for a room, giving her a key as Valerie payed her two silvers for four nights. The room itself is standard with the basic accommodations: a bed that can fit one or two people, a dresser, closet, desk, and a small bathroom. Valerie placed you on the bed along with her other items, grabbing a supplied towel that the building offers to its occupants inside the dresser. Her bath wasn't as long as you predicted, but Valerie came out clean without any lump of dust or ash anymore. She properly placed her supplies on the desk after changing back into her clothes, putting you by the bedside instead.

"Could you make sure that the windows are locked? The door too, maybe wedge a chair against it."

"Why?" Valerie said, tilting her head to the side.

"I'll be honest, don't really trust a city that neither of us doesn't know too well. In your own case, you're a village girl fresh out of water."

She sighs, "I guess I understand where you're coming from..."

Before going to bed, Valerie made sure that all accessible entryways are locked tight, pulling a chair from under the nearby desk and wedging it against the door, doing everything that you've said.

As she returned to the bed, Valerie flung herself across the white sheets, resting her head onto the pillow without covering herself properly with the blanket.

You turn your eye away in embarrassment, as you are still a man in heart. "Did well today, Valerie, handling me and all. Get some rest why don't you."

"Nn," she only sounded, already dreaming.

---

Deep into the night where the Moon's at it's peak, you can hear the ebony-haired girl snore softly as a kitten. You've been meditating all this time, tapping and searching what else is inside this vessel of a spear.

Then, darkness, a void surrounding you.

You're still in your current form as a spear, floating in midair while you try to figure out what the hell has happened.

"You, new soul that has replaced me."

"Peculiar."

"Anyways, it's my turn. What's all this void and what do you mean by 'replaced'?"

"We are in a plane that stands between the living and the afterlife. Not exactly limbo, but akin to one. Right now, it seems that you're being has taken over our vessel, where I was previously in control. I have no further knowledge concerning such."

"Who are you? Can't be talking to nothing, unless, well, if I really am."

A vibration can be felt around you, you're body being a small sprite of light. A sort of rumbling goes about the space as something begins to approach you from out of the darkness.

What came forth is a serpent, two tusks protruding from its mouth rather than fangs, its scales a dark grey. A smooth red carapace that took the appearance of bony armor layered upon select spots all over its body, the most noticeable feature on its chest. A set of rib-like pieces covered a giant cavity, completely clean through, enough to see the other side.

"I am the coinchenn, a monster of an old story. Before you, I occupied this spear alone in the hands of hero who died young. This weapon, although being the same, or to be more specific, a copy, is different. It seems that we've been placed in another version that functions in a very similar way."

A person would fear the sight of such creature, but not you. You're senses don't go off in alarm, leaving you with an indifferent emotion towards your fellow occupant.

"If this spear is virtually the same, just being another copy or version, can you tell me of the abilities that I have gained?"

"I can determine similar powers here, but ultimately, I do not know everything about our semi-new vessel. There's an additional blessing that has been given to our wielder upon coming in contact with the spear, a blessing that I cannot discern and has yet to be defined.

"I'll refer to our form as the Gae Bolg for simplicity's sake, I do not know its real name, or if even has one. As you know, experiencing the effects of the human girl's hunt, the spear has a malevolent ability to produce thorns from the inside out once the heart is pierced by the blade. Kicking it by the foot is nothing more of an effective technique to accurately hit the desired target. During your first encounter with the deer I tried to suggest that to the girl but I couldn't communicate it well.

There is also the red mist that you have previously used. All it does is enhance the fear of those within its vicinity, it'll have no effect to those with a strong courage or steeled mind. I hope that I have answered most questions."

"What do you think of Valerie, the girl you mentioned?"

"The human girl seems to be strong if we're talking about strength alone, but her young personality lets her be susceptible to influences around her. Other than that, she'll be a fine wielder."

"Tell me about the hero. From what you hinted at, it's Cu Chulainn, right? Scathach too," you requested, although knowing little to none about the mythology. You can only remember the significance of these names and the presumptions of their characters from your original world.

"My previous wielder is dead, his teacher, I do not know. They were both skilled in combat, and to some extent, magics. I am not a teacher equal to Scathach, nor can I give clarity in the arts."

"Why's that?"

"We're the weapon, not the one who is taught to use the weapon."

From out of the void is the sounds of the living world, ambient music floating throughout the dark space. You questioned the coinchenn, answering that both of you are returning to the previous plane. It gave its temporary farewell, the surrounding blackness turning white.

---

Your consciousness returns; swiftly, you swivel your singular eye around the room, taking in the change of time. From outside the window is the morning where the Sun's rays past through the window, lighting up the room with a warm hue. Valerie's still asleep, unknowing that her clothes are running up and down her body.

The moment with the coinchenn felt like seconds, but at the same time, hours.

Nah, I say we don't tell her. After all we're no longer the NEET, we're the spear now. And I imagine it's more comforting for her to think she has a powerful ancient spear at her back than some random failure from another world.
>>
>>3108173
No it doesn't besides we aren't a NEET anymore we just got put in a spear. Just commit with us being a mysterious artifact who gives little about it's skills. >>
>>3108178

>>

>>
>>3108886
>>3109091
I just used stand as a recognizable visual. we were talking about our avatar and stands are basically just personifications of the power. Another way to look at it, we could be like Peter Pans shadow if the term stand gets in your craw. If the red mist is controllable it could be useful in this way as well as other aesthetic uses, like capes or illusory armor.

If its not controllable/moldable then in its current form it could be used as a smoke screen and with training there wouldn't even be a need for her to be able to see in it. and that's on top of the fear debuff it provides.

You start to sing a lullaby to calm down Valerie, your song filling the warmly lit room. You weren't the only voice however, as traces of the Coinchenn can be faintly heard from under you own tone. Although low sounding, it had a snake's lisp that can be easily identified if you focus on it hard enough.

Nonetheless, this was of little matter, both of your voices, one closely human and one monstrous, fusing together into an oddly gentle, soothing song.

Valerie soon stopped talking to herself of murderous tendencies, steadily rising awake to the lullaby with the meekness of a baby bird. You halt yourself as well once she's half-conscious, rubbing the sand of her eyes and yawning, stretching while being ignorant to her indecently young image. In response, you look the other way until the clothes fix themselves.

"Huh?... Did you hear something? Sounded like some song..." she asked, still groggy.

To save yourself from the embarrassment you tell her that there was nothing at all, finding comfort that you're little tune worked. "It's nothing, must've been a dream."

"Really?..."

Valerie gets up from the bed, walking towards the window to get a good view of the already bustling streets.

Going straight to the guild is dangerous for such a young girl. It's better for her to start training in the city guard or trading

"Uh, hey, you alright?"

"What do you mean? I don't feel like anything in particular."

"Just wanted to know if you're fine."

"I don't see any reason why you need to question such, but I can say that I am."

"That's good... We are partners, right? Me being a spear, I can confidently say that you're secrets are locked safe with me."

Valerie puts a finger on her lip in contemplation, "You can say that. Though, now that I thought about it, I had a weird dream."

"You did? Could you tell me maybe?"

"I saw Father. He was there, but not there at the same time. He kinda felt like you in a sense even if I couldn't see him, or if he even appeared at all" Valerie digs deeper into her thoughts, trying to remember, "Everything was a blur after that, it's hard to recount all the stuff that happened... The only thing I can clearly state is another me, laughing with you in her-- my?-- hands."

We should probably pick the clothes for her since she obviously has no fashion sense.

"Valerie, do you perhaps want revenge?"

"For the brigands?"

"Yeah."

"...Nn, I do," she confirmed in a tired but stern tone.

"I have no reason to stop you, but do you know why?"

Valerie stops to think before replying. "Isn't it the right thing to do? Right?" unsure, "I'm scared about exacting vengeance on them as thing could get worse, but some urge tells me to do so. Don't know what it is, it just makes me feel that way, going against my fear," continuing on with you to accompany her and her thoughts.

After listening to Valerie for a short while she picks you up and her bag, exiting the inn and out into the lively streets of a rich city. During the way, constantly wandering, you suggested if she could find where the city guards occupied, a type of barracks of some sort before heading off to some guild. She complied, searching.

She eventually finds a fortified building of the sort, uniform soldiers patrolling about with more behind its walls. Valerie goes up to one of the guardsmen, asking if she could enter.

"You a soldier, miss? Can't let in you in if you aren't, have to talk to an officer first."

"Where can I find one?"

"I could call one over if you would like."

"S-Sure, thank you very much" slightly bowing.

New clothes might be a waste of money, training from a guard may not be wanted.
