You are Myon Uesugi, and you are a Ninja of the Bloody Mist. Years of training culminated yesterday in a fierce Battle Royale between you and your classmates. Using a Kenjutsu technique recently taught to you by your father, you were just barely able to win a fierce duel against your classmate, Zabuza Momochi, while saving your friends, Junko and Kasumi. Now a Genin of Kirigakure, and one of the very few survivors of your graduation exam, a bright future seemingly awaits you… but who can really say what the future holds?

A groan slips through your lips as your eyes slowly open, a dim ray of sunlight forcing its way through the mist guarding your bedroom window. Your bruises from yesterday have yet to heal, and your joints ache from constantly running and swinging your sword about. Sitting up on your futon, you raise a hand to your face and rub your eyes.

“Hm?” your eyes wrench open when your fingertips graze across cool metal.

Tapping your forehead, you realize that you are still wearing your Kirigakure Headband. The realization brings a glistening smile to your lips.

“I did it.” you mutter, your smile growing larger. “Hell yeah!”

Hopping out of bed, you clean yourself up and throw on a fresh pair of clothes save for your trusty leather jacket. Now sporting bloodstains here and there, you throw the coat of your shoulder with the intent of wearing it with pride as you stride down the hall to your kitchen.

“Good morning Myon-chan!” your mother calls over from behind the kitchen countertop.

“Good morning mom!” you call back, giving her a slight bow before plopping down in front of the breakfast table.

Your mother steps closer, her kimono sleeves rolled up and a small rag in her sash. She runs her hands through her long black hair before placing them on her hips.

“How’s my brave little ninja feeling today?” she giggles.
“Heh, hungry.” you smirk back at her.
“Well I only made a little food this morning,” Your mother gestures toward the pot on the stove. “but I’ll make us a feast tonight for dinner, to celebrate you coming home safe and sound."

She gives you a big smile, and as you smile back at her you idly imagine that her smile must look much less threatening than your own. After all, she lacked the sharp maw that you and your father were born with.

“Hey wait.” you end your smile and look across the kitchen table. “Uh…”

That reminded you. Looking across the table, you find that your father is not presently sitting with you. Your heart begins to race as you twist about in your seat, your eyes rapidly searching for any sign of him.

“Where the Hell is—“

“Oh!” your mother interrupts, raising a hand to her lips. “Your father went up into the village, said he had to report back to Lord Mizukage. But he promised he’d be back for dinner tonight!”

You stare back at your mother and slowly let out a sigh. Turning to your father’s empty seat with a glare, you fold your arms over your chest and huff.

“He could have waited until I woke up before running off again.” You roll your eyes at where you’re father would normally be sitting in the hopes that he can somehow feel your scorn wherever he is. “He really said he’d be back though right?”

“He promised!” Your mother chuckles. “You should have seen him scarf down the food I made him before he left. I don’t know how your father lives without my cooking.”

Your mother continues to laugh as she walks back into the kitchen, leaving you fuming a little in your seat. As your mother returns with a plate of egg and rice, you sigh and dig in while thinking about what you’ll do today. Its not common for you to have a whole day to yourself. With academy finished, you no longer have to worry about waking up every morning to endure physical training and sparring sessions. Perhaps you can relax today? Maybe go into town and do some shopping or something?

Then again, it would be a little hard to enjoy yourself knowing that Junko and Kasumi are in the hospital. Your friends were both carried away from the final test on stretchers in critical condition. It left a somewhat sour taste in your mouth not knowing for certain whether they would be ok after such a harrowing battle. Perhaps you could visit them at the hospital?

Even with all this free time though, you still have to wonder about your future as a ninja. At some point, you would have to go meet with Lord Mizukage to learn about what would come next. You knew you’d receive a personal mentor after finishing the Final Exam, perhaps you could find out who? With only a handful of survivors from this year’s graduating class, its possible Lord Mizukage would have something special planned for you and your friends.

What will Myon do first?

After finishing breakfast, you equip your katana, don your leather jacket, and adjust your headband until it is perfectly centered on your forehead before heading out into the village. With your thoughts drifting toward the fate of your comrades, you briskly walk up the foggy dirt roads that leads into Kirigakure. Upon arrival, you begin to head straight toward the hospital in the hopes of finding them alive and well.

You note that it is a fairly bright morning in the village, as you can see further down the streets through the mist than normal. Several townspeople appear to be out and about, and you find that many of them are prone to stopping and staring as you approach. Truth be told, you stood out like a sore thumb before with your katana always by your side but now you almost appear to be famous. With their eyes darting from your sword to your forehead, it is little mystery why. In Kirigakure, anyone who earned the right to be called a Shinobi was figure worthy of respect... and fear.

“Out! Get the Hell out you bum!”

The shouting of a gruff male voice causes you to stop and turn your attention to what looks to be a bar. Stumbling through the blinds comes a tall man with a scraggly beard wearing a conical hat.

“I don’t need your watered down swill!” the man in the straw hat shouts, stepping away from the bar and nearly bumping into you. “Watch where you’re walking you little—“

The man stops dead in his tracks, his jaw dropping as he stares down at you through bloodshot eyes.

“m-ma’m! Sorry ma’m! i-I didn’t see you there, forgive this old fool! His eyes aren’t what they used to be!”

The man stammers at you, the strong scent of sake reeking from his breath. Looking over your shoulder, you see that several people are peering down at you from nearby windows and balconies. They are apparently waiting to see what you will do next.

What will Myon do?

>Glare at him and tell him to be more careful!

You grimace at the drunkard, bombarded by his bad breath and just a little embarrassed by how he is treating you.

“Stop, stop!” you cut him off before he can say any more. “Its not even noon, why are you drunk?”

The man breathes heavily, fear evident in his wide eyes, before breaking out into a sob.

“What’s the point?!” he shouts. “I am a ruined man! I’ve lost everything!"

He drops to his knees and buries his face into his hands, causing you to take a step back.

“Uhhhh” you mutter. “I uh—“

“I was but a simple fisherman!” he chokes through his sobs. “I lived a happy life, and wanted for nothing until THEY CAME!”

The drunkard lowers his hands into fists and regards Myon with a vicious snarl.

“My village was reduced to ash, over ten years ago.” he growls, more like a beast than a man. “First by Shinobi, from the Land of Fire, then again by Shinobi from the land of Whirlpools, then AGAIN by Shinobi from the Land of Lightning! THOSE BASTARDS!”

His fierce glare begins to subside as he wipes his tears away.

“When the war ended, there was nothing left. I became a refugee, and was forced to come here. Sake is the only thing that keeps my anger in check! If only I could have been trained a ninja, or conscripted into the Water Daimyo’s armies. If only I could have revenge!”

You sigh at the man as he dries his tears, seemingly calming down to some degree. You had heard a few stories of the devastation the Land of Water went through during parts of the Second Shinobi World War. In fact, you recall that your mother had given birth to you on an island far away from Kirigakure but that your father was adamant on raising you close to the Village. Evidently, the place you were born in had suffered raids from rival villages as well. Kirigakure was a far safer place than any other in the Land of Water, so long as you were content to live under the Mizukage instead of the Water Daimyo.

Having learned this man’s story, what will Myon do now?

>Sigh and leave the man alone
>Give the man a small bit of coin for his troubles
>Promise the man that there will be revenge for the Land of Water
>Tell him that he still has no excuse for disrespecting you

You frown at the old man. You can only imagine how frustrating it must feel to be so powerless in the face of such destruction. You can only imagine, because you have never suffered like he has and you know that you are not powerless like him. As a Ninja of the Bloody Mist, you have the strength to do something about this.

“I’m sorry.” you mutter.

“Nani?” he grunts back. “y-You’re sorry?”

You nod back at him with a scowl.

“What they did to you, to our country, is unforgivable.” You growl at him through gritted teeth. "They will pay for this, I swear it."

The man stares at you in shock for several seconds before his face contorts into something stuck between a grin and a glare.

“May all the gods bless you young lady. Yes, make them pay!” he yells, rising to his feet. "Make their lands suffer TENFOLD what they did to us! And when they beg for mercy, when they beg for you to spare them… REMEMBER ME! Remember what they did to me, and to so many others like me!”

The drunkard bows again, prostrating himself before you, before shakily walking away. With him gone, you turn a little of your attention to the various spectators you had garnered. Some of these townspeople stare down at you, their eyes wide and their mouths hanging open. Perhaps they expected to see you deal with the drunk in a much less forgiving manner. More surprisingly, some of them appear to be grinning. You’re not sure what to make of that until you hear one of them shout—

“Send em all to Hell!” a young boy from a balcony yells. “Konoha Ninja destroyed my hometown too!”
“Those soldiers from the Land of Lightning are barbarians!” a hostess says as she emerges from the same bar the drunkard exited. “Both my aunt and uncle died because of their constant raiding! They're worse than any pirate!”

Several other people chime in agreement, seemingly coming out of the woodwork as they voice their displeasure to whoever will listen. Out from amongst the crowd, you hear a pair of teenage boys talking to each other.

“Who is that little kunoichi anyway?”
“Can’t you tell? That’s Kirigakure’s newest genin, the only student to walk away from the Final Test in one piece! They call her….”

Not wanting to draw too much more attention to yourself, you continue on down the street away from these random townsfolk. The promise you had made to this man remains clear in your thoughts, although you also begin to think on the fate of your companions and who you will visit first.

You can still hear those townspeople’s chatter in the back of your head. They called you the Demon-Slayer-of-the-Bloody-Mist, a title you’ve likely earned in relation to the so-called Demon-of-the-Bloody-Mist, your former opponent Zabuza. You walk with a pep to your step as you envision yourself cutting down literal demons in your future life as a Ninja.

Eventually, you walk through the hospital’s doors and venture up the staircase leading to the patients’ dormitories. After a bit of searching, you find the room you’ve been looking for.

Walking inside, you spot a familiar face resting asleep in a hospital bed. Her long blonde hair lies strewn across the bed, her hands interlinked as she lies there asleep.

“Big Sis?” you whisper, walking further into the room. “How you feeling?”

You frown as she fails to respond. On your approach, you notice that much of her clothing and equipment, from her ninjato sword to her letterman jacket and blue oni mask, lie scattered across the room. It feels odd seeing her deprived of all this.

“Eh?” Junko stirs, opening her eyes and staring up at you. “l-Lil Sis?”

The two of you stare at each other in silence, until slowly both of you break out into smiles.

“You look like shit.” you snicker at her.
“Still better-looking than you!” she chuckles back

Your smile widens as you fall upon Big Sis, wrapping your arms around her in a big hug.

“AHHHH SHIT!” Junko screams.
“Wah!” you cry back, breaking the hug.

Junko shudders, wrapping her arms around her gut where you recall a kunai was once embedded.

“Aw crap!” you sputter. “Sorry Junko!”
“m-Myooon.” Junko moans. “Come here, i-I have something to tell you…”

You lean in closer as Junko struggles to raise her voice. Putting your ear close to her mouth, Junko whispers…

“You suck. And you're gonna die a virgin.”

As Big Sis breaks out into another laugh, you chuckle and give her a middle finger in return. The two of you carry on back and forth like this for several minutes, fooling around like the kids you are.

“Come on, take a seat. Stay a while!” Junko giggles, pointing at a chair against the wall. “Tell me you brought some cigarettes. These nurses took all mine when I wasn’t looking.”

You roll your eyes and take a seat. Junko soon informs you that her injuries will keep her bedridden for a while, at least a week if not more. However, she is to eventually make a full recovery!

“And that means I get to live to fight another day….” she smiles while pulling brandishing her own headband from beneath her covers.

What will Myon do now?

After the two of you have mellowed out a bit, you find yourself wondering if Junko has learned anything about what her future training will look like? The Academy days are behind you both, yet your former instructors spoke often of how you would each continue to train under even more skilled shinobi.

“Hey Big Sis, you hear at all who your new sensei is supposed to be?”

“Hm? Oh yeah!” Junko reaches over to her nightstand and pulls out a small scroll. “A ninja came by early this morning and left this for me, said it listed who my new instructor was. I almost forgot!”

“Whaaaat?” You stand up from your seat and step over to her bed. “You haven’t even opened it yet?!”

“Hey, cut me some slack!” Junko barks back. “I’ve been knocked out almost all day!”

Junko huffs and opens up the scroll while you lean over and attempt to read with her.

“Let’s see here… huh. Looks like— OH WOW!” Junko gasps as she lowers the scroll to her lap. “HOT DAMN! Look how much they’re paying us! That’s over twice what they were giving us in the academy!”

Juno’s eyes dazzle as she leans back against her pillow while you scoff at her.

“Uh, so what about your new sensei?”

“Hm?” Junko snaps out of her daze and picks the scroll back up. “You ever hear of a… Mei Terumi?”

“Mei Terumi?” you blink at Junko. “Wait, wasn’t there a kid in our class named Gin Terumi?”

The two of you stare at one another, and then back at the scroll. You recall a red-headed boy named Gin, a rather loud and abrasive kid who didn’t seem to get along with anyone save for a far more easygoing boy named Naoko.

“Maybe they were clan-mates?” Junko guesses with a shrug.
“If so… then that means she just lost a family member yesterday.” you mutter back.

“Shit.” Junko blinks at you and then sighs at her scroll. “Well, it sounds like this Mei Terumi is a Jonin, and she’s going to be assigned as my teacher. That’s all it really says on that…”

You frown at Junko’s scroll. It really didn’t have much to say on the matter at all, except for giving you a name. You and Junko didn’t even seem to know if she would be training under Mei alone or not.

“Lame.” Junko grunts. “Guess I’m going to have to wait until I get out of here to find out more.”

“Yeah…”

With one question answered, and several more raised, you and Junko sit with one another for a few more minutes until the hospital room opens up and a Medical Nin enters with a clipboard.

“Miss Junko?” the man says without tearing his gaze away from his papers. “I’m here to conduct a few tests. I’m afraid you’re colleague will have to leave.”

“Ugh, lame!” Junko snorts.

Your visit with her cut short, you carefully give your Big Sis a hug along with a promise to come back and visit soon. She refuses to break the hug until you’ve also promised to smuggle in some cigarettes next time.

With that visit ended, you now have time to visit someone else. Or you may even decide to go visit Lord Mizukage and get some answers concerning how your future training will go. Then again, you could always just go relax for a while and enjoy some of your newly earned freedom.

Venturing up a floor, you begin to search for your other companion from yesterday’s Battle Royale. It takes a bit longer to find her than it did to find Junko, but after asking directions from a nurse you successfully locate the room.

“Hello?” you knock at the door before cracking it open. “Hey, Kasumi?”

You freeze upon seeing what is inside the room. Standing around a hospital bed are four separate men, each of them quite muscular and sporting two dark birthmark dots on their foreheads. You are taken aback as each of them grins at you.

“What the fu—?“

“Myon-san?” Kasumi suddenly sits up from her bed, drawing the four men’s attention away from you and onto her. “Myon-san! Hello!”

“Uh, hi?” you mutter back while trying to make sense of the scene in front of you.

“Hey little cuz.” one of the men grumbles. “Is this supposed to be that girl you teamed up with yesterday?”

Kasumi quickly nods her head.

“It’s so good to see you again Myon-san. Please come in, I want you to meet my family.”

You feel like that might be a bad idea, given the deadly looks those four were giving you just a moment earlier. Yet Kasumi seems to be positively beaming, and her smile is a much friendlier one that you'd rather not cut short. Stepping into her room, the four men give each other a look before one of them pats Kasumi’s head.

“We’re going to go get something to eat. Have fun with your friend while we’re gone.” he orders.

“OK then. Enjoy your meal!” Kasumi grins.

The four exit, leaving you alone with Kasumi. You can see up close that she is wearing a large bandage on her neck where Zabuza's kunai had sliced through.

“What brings you here Myon-san?”

“I just wanted to make sure you were OK was all.”

“Oh?” Kasumi blinks at you while leaning back into her bed. “I’m afraid I have some unfortunate news.”

You frown at Kasumi while taking a seat by her bedside.

“It appears I will not be in any condition to fight for at least a week, maybe two or three.” she sighs, resting her cheek against her pillow. “Please forgive me, but we will not be having our rematch very soon. So annoying…”

“Is that all?” you ask while rubbing the back of your neck. “Well, that’s not so bad. I’m glad you’re going to be alright.”

Kasumi gives you a blank stare.

“I assumed you were here to ask about our next duel?”

“Uh, not exactly. I kind of just wanted to spend some time with you.”

Kasumi furrows her brow at you, obviously taken aback. She grips her bedsheets tight and lifts them up, fidgeting with them.

“Oh… well,” she suddenly regains a smile. “that’s very kind of you Myon-san. I’d be honored to spend time with you.”

You chuckle at her behavior, noting that her cheeks have suddenly blushed. Its quite obvious to see upon her pale visage, despite her attempts to hide beneath her bedsheets.

“I was quite a mess yesterday.” Kasumi giggles. “The medical nin told me I had lost three whole liters of blood.”

“Three liters of blood?!” you exclaim. “That’s insane, how did you survive that?!”

“Heh, I really don’t know.” she sighs. “But I’m quite pleased that I did not die yesterday. And my family is also impressed! My cousins tell me that my survival has brought the Kaguya clan great honor. Perhaps you could meet more of them some time at our clan compound? I'm sure they would be grateful.”

Your eyes widen at Kasumi’s suggestion. After what little you’ve heard and seen of the Kaguya clan, you wonder just how safe it might be to enter their clan compound. Something felt distinctly off about Kasumi's clan, although you imagine they would logically be grateful to you for helping protect Kasumi from Zabuza.

“Uh, sure.” you chuckle at Kasumi. “Maybe after you get out of the hospital, I can come over and hangout.”

“That sound lovely.” Kasumi chirps back. “You’ll be an honored guest! I can show you my room, the clan catacombs, even our sparring grounds! I’m sure my clanmates would love to see us fight.”

You find yourself rolling your eyes at Kasumi who innocently prattles on a bit more about how the sparring grounds are the most sophisticated in the entire village. Although she and her family appear to have a one track mind when it comes to fighting, you have to admit you are a little excited to fight her again. You just hope Kasumi isn’t so keen on fighting ‘to the death’ anymore...

As she speaks a little more about her clan compound, she delves once again into the history of her family. Kasumi briefly touches upon a few legends concerning her ancestors fighting monsters during the Warring States period, and it really does appear that her clan has a storied past. Seeing how much Kasumi appears to treasure her family, you begin to talk to her a bit about your own. You tell her that your father is a Chunin while your mother is a simple homemaker, and you even tell her a little about your baby brother Keiji..

“Your mother really knows no shinobi arts at all?” Kasumi interrupts.
“Well, no. She grew up in a fishing village pretty far from Kirigakure. Never had a chance to train I guess...” you mutter back.
“I see, and what of your brother Keiji? Will he become a ninja as well?”
“I… think so? He’s still only a baby, but I kind of assume he will. My parents both let me choose to join the academy, I don’t see why he wouldn’t too."

Kasumi nods politely before donning another smile.

“Your family sounds odd," she smirks. "but they also sound like nice people."

You snort, and are about to reply on what her standards are for "Odd Behavior" when her four elder cousins reenter the room. Feeling a little uncomfortable in their presence, you decide now will be a good time to excuse yourself. Kasumi grabs hold of your hand and gives it a tight squeeze while thanking you for visiting.

"It feels nice to have a friend." she chuckles. "Until next time."
"Heh." You chuckle back while blushing a little. "Don't mention it."

You look over your shoulder and notice that her cousins appear to be whispering to one another, all while maintaining that disturbing smile of theirs.

Your visit with Kasumi ended, you glance out a hospital window and see that it is just a little past noon. You still have some time left before sundown to handle your business in the village. You feel a little hungry as you wonder what exactly your mother is preparing for dinner tonight.

What will Myon do now?

You’d be lying if you said there wasn’t someone else here at the hospital you were interested in seeing again. You breathe a sigh of relief now that you know Junko and Kasumi will live, but that still leaves one last survivor to be determined. That foe responsible for giving you your new title, the Demon-Slayer-of-the-Bloody-Mist.

You venture upstairs to another floor and find yourself walking down an abnormally quiet hallway. Down at the very end, you are greeted by two figures wearing white masks which display the village's emblem. There is no mistaking them, these two are obviously members of Kirigakure’s ANBU corps, otherwise known as the Hunter Nin for their infamous reputation of hunting down those who betray the village.

“Greetings Miss Uesugi, if you are here to visit your classmate then I will ask that you leave your sword here with us."

Frowning, you glance down at the katana by your side before peering up into these two ninja’s foreboding masks. You never liked being out and about without a sword at your side.

“I’m afraid no exceptions can be made.” the other ninja adds. “More than one death threat has already been made on Momochi’s life since yesterday’s exam So if you’d please…”

The masked ninja extends his hand and you begrudgingly hand over your katana. The other ninja pushes open the door and lets you inside.

“Enjoy your stay.” the ninja whispers.

“Yeah yeah…” you mutter back.

Inside the room, you find a young boy about your age lying under the covers of the hospital bed. Quite a bit of hospital equipment rests on either side of him as the boy soundly sleeps, seemingly unaware of your presence. You open your mouth to speak as you approach, yet you fail to find the right words. What do you say to someone who tried so hard to kill you and your friends only a day ago? What exactly drew you back to him in the first place?

“Ugh,” the boy’s eyes open. “its you…”

Zabuza groans, unable to lift his head from his bed pillow. Baring his sharp teeth, the boy who once seemed so unstoppable on the battlefield rather weakly addresses you.

“… back so soon? Come to finish the job, or just gloat?”

You frown down at Zabuza as he glowers up at you. After a tense moment of staring each other down, you scoff at him.

“Look, I didn’t come here to kill you or rub yesterday in your face.” you grunt as you lean closer. "I just wanted to learn how you were able to do it?”

“Do it?” he replies while raising an eyebrow. “Do what?”

“Kill everyone, duh!” you shout. “Also, I guess I’m kind of curious what kind of kid could pull that off in the first place. I barely even remember seeing you back in the academy, just who are you?”

Zabuza’s scowl softens.

“Is that all?” he asks, and you readily nod back. “Really?”

>55
>Minor Success

You sigh and nod your head, but this time as you do so you notice something’s off. There appears to be a slight bulge under the covers by Zabuza’s side, and at first you’re utterly disgusted. A few seconds later, you realize that bulge is actually more than likely some kind of weapon. You freeze up as you lock eyes with Zabuza, who appears to have noticed the shift in your demeanor.

“Heh heh,” Zabuza chuckles at you

“Heh, scared?” you smirk back at him.

“Can’t ever be too careful.” he grunts back, the bulge under the covers disappearing as he lays down whatever he was hiding. “So, where to start…?”

Zabuza frowns up at the ceiling as you take a seat by his bedside.

“There is nothing remarkable about how I got to where I am.” he mutters. “Both my parents were ninja, both of them eventually died. I trained every day at the academy, and when I got home I trained some more.”

“Your parents are dead?” you interrupt him mid-story.

“What of it?” Zabuza grunts. “We ninja live by the sword, and we all die by the sword. Anyway, all I did to get better was train as hard as I could…”

You quietly stare at Zabuza, letting your scornful gaze inform him that you aren’t satisfied.

“… I got a lot of field practice.” he admits.

“Field practice?” you repeat. “What’s that supposed to mean? We students can’t just go out on missions like real ninja.”

Zabuza gives you a sharp smile.

“There’s always plenty of fun to be had here in our lovely village.” he says with a smug grin. “One need only wander into a bad neighborhood long enough and wait for trouble to find him. And I was always waiting for trouble.”

You can easily see what Zabuza meant by that. Just the other day, you ended up running into various thugs who were eager to give you a fight. You had to wonder if that is really a daily occurrence for some people. Having grown up outside the village limits on your sleepy cliffside home, you really only had a vague idea of what it was like to actually live in Kirigakure. And to grow up alone without a family like yours, or even a clan like Kasumi’s, seemed harrowing indeed.

“Experience was my greatest sensei.”

Your eyes widen as your father’s words echo inside your head, remembering the talk you had with him the night before your final test. It would seem there was a great deal of truth to his words.

“So… have you always been here in Kirigakure?” you ask
“Born and raised.” Zabuza grunts
“And you’ve always been alone?” you mutter with a frown
“Pretty much. Its part of how I’ve gotten so strong."

You raise an eyebrow at him, waiting for him to explain himself further. With a groan, he’s able to lift his head off his pillow and address you face to face.

“Its easier to fight, when you got nothing to lose.” he smirks. “I’m sure many of our classmates were terrified when I cut them down, thinking about the friends and the family they would never see again. A real ninja doesn’t need these things, they are only a distraction."

How does Myon respond to that?

You sneer at Zabuza, quick to dismiss his pessimistic claims on the value of others.

“I know for a fact that you would’ve killed me yesterday if it wasn’t for my dad.” you tell him while folding your arms against your chest. “That technique I used to beat you wasn’t taught to me by some lousy academy instructor or a random scroll. My father taught me the Revolving-Flying-Sword-Technique, and its because of him that I won our duel.”

>73
>Close Failure

Zabuza’s scowl diminishes for a moment as you reveal the source of yesterday’s winning technique. However, a moment later Zabuza rolls his eyes at you much the same way you roll your eyes at Junko when she prattles about her love for good cigarettes.

“You won your fight against me yesterday because I was being a fool.” Zabuza growls. “I underestimated you, and had the “Brilliant” idea to screw around with you and your friends toward the end. That technique your father taught you might be impressive, but I refuse to believe that was what really defeated me.”

You frown at Zabuza, finding it frustrating that he refuses to see your side of things. Perhaps you shouldn’t be surprised that you couldn’t change his mind so easily, but its still a little aggravating to see that your words ALMOST had an effect on him.

It also pisses you off how Zabuza seems to think he defeated himself, rather than you defeated him. You have half a mind to correct him on that too, when he speaks once again.

“So is that why you even became a ninja in the first place?” Zabuza grunts while resting his head back down on the pillow. "Was it because of your dear old father?”

“Huh?” you blink at Zabuza. “Well…”

Looks like Zabuza is showing more of an interest in you at the moment, leaving you to dwell on something that has occasionally occupied your thoughts. Now, after all the trials you’ve recently face, you’re left to ponder this question once again.

What really drives you to become a Ninja?

Subconscious desire to attain recognition and love from father by surpassing him in his own field

Honestly, I don't want to go down the power of friends path this quest. Friends are nice, but good swordsmanship and skill are the cornerstone of what it means to be a ninja. Friends are useful on the battlefield because you have a greater degree of trust and familiarity with them, which boosts overall synergy, but you *need* a strong grasp of the fundamentals to succeed. Or you can cheat with bloodline powers, if you're 'lucky' enough. Fortunately we aren't a kekkai scum, we earn things the hard way.
>>
>>3074768
>>You enjoy fighting, and the thrill of combat and swordplay is something you live for
>>
>>3075954
Hey Naruto is based on bullshit that Kishimoto pulled in his ass maybe Myon bloodline has some kekkai scum we have and QM can just make an OC cheat bloodline specifically from kenjutsu.
>>
>>3075964
or we get apprenticed to Ao and he tragically dies but passes on his stolen eye to us.
>>
>>3075964
To clarify, 'Clan Jutsu' is totally fine. Clan specific ninjutsu or kenjutsu techniques that could give us an edge or something to adopt a fighting style around (Think Ino-Shika-Cho stuff, none of that is bloodline, just secret techniques passed down) are things I'd like to see.

However, Uchishit, and things like bullshit multi nature releases (Which are bloodline only, of course!) are TRIPLE GAY and should be shunned.
>>
>>3075982
Master the sword. That's all we need, maybe some chakra cloak bullshit like the Raikage.
>>
>>3075988
Puppet strings + 90 mph sword throwing arm= Bloody Whirlwind of Death?
>>
>>3075992
Basically one of the seven swords, although it's more of a piercing thing than a cutting thing.
>>
>>3075992
Wait no, I forgot I wanted to bring this up earlier.

Chakra strings, controlling five different swords with our left hand. In our right hand, our personal sword. Close range and long range kenjutsu techniques, able to flank opponents from afar by ourselves and still flex our kenjutsu skills. If our strings are disrupted, we simply reattach them. We'd be a terror.
>>
>>3076011
>Puppets
Sand bullshit. What we need is sword and more sword. We need the best sword ever, better than those seven shitters. Idk, maybe some lightsaber-esque business.
>>
>>3076021
no matter how good our sword is, if we don't have one of the seven swords people will think all our talk about our sword being better is just sour grapes.
Unfortunately there's a good chance that we're getting slotted for kubikiribocho instead of zabazu because we beat him, but if not we should either be aiming to get kiba after raiga defects or track down nuibari, both of which are far more suited for our fighting style.
>>
>>3076021
No, not puppets my dude.

Swords. Swords controlled by magic bullshit strings.

It'd seem to the average man that the swords were demonically possessed, slaughtering men of their own free will. It'd be a hype fighting style, and It's not like we can't go oldschool on people, there'd be plenty of that going on.

We should carry around 11 goddamn swords.
>>
>>3076030
As an addition, we could seal each scabbard to have the swords return to their scabbards with a single handsign. Hype as fuck.

Imagine it. Iaido quickdraw with ELEVEN swords.
>>
>>3076034

I don't know about multiswords but learning to use chakra strings to manipulate our sword for sneak attacks and tricks shots would be useful.
>toss blade
>enemy dodges thinking we fucked up
>pull string attached
>sword boomerangs back
>slices through enemy from behind
>sword back in hand
It is a good utility skill with little training required, I'll support learning it.
>>
>>3076050
that's nuibari. you're talking about the existing mist sword, nuibari.
>>
>>3076056
Imagine if we can trickshot with it!? Unf.
>>
>>3076056
Nuibari is nice, but that's endgame loot mate. Also the ability to manipulate threads with chakra will be nothing but a benefit if/when we get it.
>>
>>3076038
The nuibari is more of a stabbing weapon whereas our style seems more about slashing. I'd say the kiba swords would mesh much better, they're considered the sharpest blades in the world and the lightning adds to the damage and piercing enemy defenses. That's out of the five blades though, if we get a chance to get the hiramekarei or even possibly the samehada then we need to take them.
>>
>>3076056
Same concept, though less needlework. Not like we can't copy a useful trick through cheaper means.
>>
>>3076062
hiramekarei looks fucking dumb though
>>
>>3076061
nuibari is currently merely LOST instead of in the hands of traitors or those about to go traitor, it's not THAT endgame.
>>
>>3076072
I mean, yeah I can't deny that but I'd like to think anons would overlook that with how powerful it can be in the right hands. We could just try for the samehada instead I guess, it's probably the stronger sword anyway.
>>
>>3076075
the problem THERE is i'd very much rather fight literally any other wielder for their sword than kisame because kisame is fucking terrifying
>>
>>3076081
Does Kisame even have his sword at this point? Actually, is he even a missingnin at this point because I think right now he's still in the village. It'd be sweet if he ended up our sensei
>>
>>3076106
His master should still have the sword but we'd be a real asshole to go try to take it from his master while he's still the man's apprentice and we'd probably have to end up fighting him to keep it anyway. On the other hand after he killed us he'd have no reason to leave the village because he wouldn't have discovered his master was selling Kiri out!
>>
>>3076111
Apparently zabuza was 26 when kisame was 32, but he might have been 32 in either part 1 or 2 of naruto since they don't specify. That means right now Kisame would either be 15 or 18 to our 12. He's definitely still in the village then as he joins up as one of the seven swordsman around the same time zabuza does. Who knows, maybe we befriend him and make him less disillusioned with the world. Seems like he only left after the oast couple comrades he had died or left the village. Makes you genuinely feel for the guy.

“Its like you said, 'live by the sword die by the sword’. That’s something I'm pretty content with. I feel most alive when I’m fighting.”

Zabuza’s perpetual scowl lightens up and he gives you a nod.

“Hmph, that’s at least something I can understand.” he grumbles

Looking back on yesterday, you’d be lying if you didn’t say you weren't a little afraid at times during the slaughter that was your first exam. Yet, it was also exciting to cross swords with foes in an actual battle. You had spent years preparing for the moment, imagining what it would really be like, and the real deal did not disappoint. You look forward to honing your swordsmanship in future battles. Maybe that is why you’re able to become friends with someone like Kasumi, or speak civilly with someone like Zabuza. Deep down, you love to fight.

“But its more than that.” you add, earning a grim look from Zabuza.

“I care about this land and its people.” you mutter while making a fist. “Every time I walk down Kirigakure’s streets, I see how much we’ve suffered. I want REVENGE.”

You raise your head up high and lock eyes with Zabuza.

“My own mother grew up on an island far from here, a small peaceful place that was ruined because other nations thought they could just attack it all they want.” you grit your shark-like teeth and glare. “I’m going to make them pay for what they did to the Land of Water.”

Zabuza does not reply, seemingly not expecting such a strong reply from you in regards to your homeland.

“Heh, a little dramatic I guess,” you grin while scratching the back of your forehead. “but I really mean it. I guess you can also say I want to be strong enough to protect the people close to me. My family, my friends, I don’t ever want them to suffer like our homeland has suffered.”

Zabuza chuckles at you.

“They’re that important to you eh?” he asks

“Yes, yes they are.” you nod with a determined look in your eyes, although that look slowly gives way to a small smile as you add. “I wouldn’t mind earning myself a name in history either. Carving ‘Myon Uesugi’ down into some scholar’s scrolls sounds like something I’d like.”

You give Zabuza a smug look while imagining yourself, a sword stabbed in the ground as you lounge about with a fan in your hand inside the newly founded Uesugi Clan Compound. Perhaps one day you'd earn enough fame to be considered one of the greatest warriors, like the legendary First Mizukage or his contemporaries who were said to be as strong as gods...

"Heh heh” Zabuza sighs. “Funny… you’re pretty funny… ” he mumbles.

You frown at Zabuza, who seems to be about to fall asleep. You take this as your cue to leave, rising up from your seat and walking towards the door.

“Wait!” Zabuza pipes up, stealing your attention back to him. “Before you go—”

Zabuza lifts himself back up to a sitting position and stares at you.

(1/2)
>>
>>3076404
“I have a goal as well.” He growls “I will become Mizukage some day. I will rise up above everyone else, beyond just another orphan wandering Kirigakure’s streets. My hard work, my commitment to the Shinboi way, will be recognize. Up above all others… I will be… recognized…”

Zabuza shudders as his head hits his pillow once more. Turning your gaze away from him, unsure of what to make of his declaration, you walk out the door and leave Zabuza behind to rest.

Upon regaining your sword and exiting the hospital, you find that the sun is dipping lower and lower over the horizon. You now realize that you’ll have to hurry home if you are to make dinner in time. So you sprint off, leaving the Village Hidden in the Bloody Mist behind.

By the time you reach home, it has grown dark outside. Your humble little home is only vaguely illuminated by a hint of sunlight piercing through the dark western sky above the waves. You hop up to your front door and slide it open.

“Myon-chan, are you home?” your mother calls.

You sigh, lifting your sword out of your sash as the warmth from inside greets you.

“Hi mom,” you call back. “I’m home!"

Walking down the hall, you find a rare sight in your kitchen. Sitting upon the floor in front of the table is your father, sitting so peacefully with his eyes closed that one might think he was asleep. You can also hear your brother stirring nearby in his crib, cheerfully babbling to himself. A moment later, your mother calls out again.

“Dinner’s almost ready!” she chirps. “I broiled us some eel for tonight.”

Your stomach growls as you take a seat in front of your father, resting your sword by the wall.

“Daughter,” your father speaks up while opening his eyes. “did you enjoy your day off?”

You nod your head, and before you have a chance to say much more your father goes on.

“I spoke with Lord Mizukage today.” your father mutters. “There was much I had to report, and he was pleased to hear what I had to say. It would seem that our family has become popular as of late.”

There’s no mistaking why you would have earned so much attention, what with yesterday’s test results. Still, there is much your father has been quiet on concerning his end. He HAS only recently returned from his last espionage mission after being gone for several months, without having kept in contact with you or your mother one bit. You’re always left wondering what it is your father seems to be keeping hidden from you...

what does Myon do now?

You look down at the floor as you kneel in front of your father, grimacing at the wooden floorboards.

“Hm?” your father blinks at you. “Is there something on your mind?"

“Thank you father.” you say, bowing your head to him. “I would have died if not for that technique you showed me.”

You sigh as you keep your head bowed to him. It was amazing how just a simple half-hour or so spent practicing with him made so great a difference.

“Myon,” your father calls while reaching over and placing a hand on your shoulder. “whenever I am far away on a mission and feel lost, I think of you and our little family by the coast.”

You raise your head and gawk at your father. His smile is clear to see, even when most of his face is obscured behind cloth.

“y-Yeah,” you sputter. “you’ve told me that before dad…”

“And you have thanked me more than once already for teaching you the Flying-Revolving-Sword-Technique.” Your father says while ruffling your hair. “I feel it is only appropriate.”

You’ve rarely let him pat you on the head like this before, but maybe this one time it is ok….

“s-So uh,” you stutter at him as he retracts his hand. “Your last mission went well right?”

Your father stares at you a moment before leaning in close.

“Yes," he whispers “I just returned from the Village-Hidden-in-the-Leaves. I was able to observe quite a few of their most prominent clans.”

“What were they like?” you ask your father.

“Konoha is home to many clans where powerful jutsu is passed down via the blood.” your father mutters, looking over his shoulder as if by instinct. “These powers are called Kekkei Genkei, and there are far more of these powerful jutsu in Konoha than any other village.”

A power that is passed down within a family? You believe you had heard rumors of such a thing before, but your academy instructors were never quite forthcoming with such information.

“Konoha is powerful indeed, and by extension the Land of Fire is large and mighty.” your father nods. “I have petitioned Lord Mizukage to pay special attention to the Land of Fire in the next Shinobi World War.”

“The next one?” you ask your father. “Is there really going to be another? Like the one that destroyed mom’s island?”

“Yes,” Your father whispers. “I have also heard that Iwagakure is amassing a massive army of Shinobi. Tens of thousands of ninja, poised to attack the Land of Fire. All the Daimyo's of the world also appear to be raising soldiers. The next World War is at hand...”

You look back to your sword resting against the wall. Excitement is beginning to rumble within as you remember your promise to avenge the evils inflicted upon the Land of Water. You’re eager for other ninja to taste your blade. Yet, you also know that you need to get stronger if you are to make an impact in the next war. You’ll need a teacher to show you the way.

I... don't think that's true?
Sharingen, byakugan, kurama genjutsu and in theory wood release makes 4, and kiri has dead bone pulse, at least two combination techniques as demonstated by Mei, the whole "turn into water" thing and arguably ice release, that's 4 or 5.

“Lord Mizukage,” you mumble. “Did he say anything about what my training would be like now?”

“Oh yes,” your father nods. “he didn’t, but after our business had concluded I asked him. He had most auspicious news to tell me.”

Your eyes light up as you wait for your father to continue.

“Lord Mizukage said that since there were only four survivors from this year’s exam that each student would receive a single instructor.” your father’s smile fades. “It is usually the norm, as ninja of our village often work in pairs. However…”

You lean in closer as your father holds your attention with his last word.

“… it would appear that he has special plans for you. You are to receive your training from one the Seven.”

Your jaw drops open as you nearly shout

“One of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist!?”

Kyoji nods his head and you nearly let out a scream!

“i-I did it!” You stutter while rising to your feet. “I’m going to be trained by one of the greatest swordsmen in the world!”

“Yes, you are.” your father confirms. “You and your former foe, Zabuza Momochi.”

You cease your revelry and look back down at your father.

“Lord Mizukage has informed me that he wishes for you and Zabuza to train together under a single Swordsmen of the Mist.” your father turns away to peer out a window. “It seems you will be part of a three-man team; you, Zabuza, and one of the Seven.”

You and Zabuza as part of a team? The sudden reveal causes you to take a step back from your father.

“w-Why though?” you ask your father. “If Junko and Kasumi are receiving their own teachers, then why am I and Zabuza being paired together?”

“Lord Mizukage seems to believe that you and Zabuza will complement each other well,” your father sighs. “He said that Zabuza was a fantastic warrior, and that you were a capable leader. He spoke very highly of you, it filled me with pride.”

You stop yourself before you can say anything else. The news that you would be trained by one of the Legendary 7 was incredible, yet you were also a bit taken aback to learn that you would be training beside Zabuza. A part of you had hoped to train beside one of your friends, not someone you nearly fought to the death. Then again, you did seem to have a pretty cordial meeting with Zabuza not more than an hour or so ago. Furthermore, the test was over and there didn’t really seem to be a reason for you to fight each other anymore.

How does Myon react to her father’s news?

>Tell your father that you’ll accept Lord Mizukage’s decision, perhaps you and Zabuza can make a good team

What you say is partly true.

However, canonically by the time the Naruto manga starts the Kaguya and the Yuki clans are all but extinct after being wiped out in civil conflicts with the Land of Water. Also the "Turn into Water" thing I believe you are talking about is actually a Hiden and not a Kekkei Genkai, so its not particularly the same thing as a bloodline-only power.

So there are reasons for why Myon's father said what he said to Myon, even if it doesn't quite make sense at the moment.

I guess also with the hate the Kaguya seem to hold for the dead bone pulse it might not actually be public knowledge that it exists at all.

Speaking of pushing ourself, one thing I think we should learn are water clones early so that myon can pull off two man cross sword slash attacks and tricks by herself, like when she and junko took down that girl in the academy royale. That and using water clinging to her sword to make long ranged slashes. Essentially you swing the sword really fast and the water extends the range like a projectile slash.

Why is she so perfect?
>>
>>3077224
It kinda fits, the drive for revenge that Baiken has is something her and Myon shares, it's just for Myon's village rather then her family...so far.

It also matches somewhat in that, in one of her Accent Core Plus endings, Baiken lost her mind and became addicted to killing people, where as Myon is a blood knight/combat junkie, which is a slippy slope to stand on with the Kaguya being a perfect example.

Also Baiken is hot as hell, Mizu has produced people with strange hair colors before, and since both Konoha and Kumo have their Big Titty Beauties in Tsunade and Samui, Kiri obviously needs their own.

I was more opining on how Baiken is perfect waifu material.

Your shoulders sag as you dwell on the news your father has brought you. You think hard on Zabuza, the battle you two shared, and how closely you all came to death. The legends surrounding the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist were also never really far from your mind, and it was immensely gratifying that you’d get to learn from one of them. Even if you had to share your tutelage beside Zabuza, it didn’t seem so terrible a fate. He WAS a very powerful ninja, perhaps in time you could work beside him just as you worked beside Junko and Kasumi.

“If Lord Mizukage really thinks we can be a good team, then sure.” you tell your father with a renewed smile. “The test is over, so I guess we can work together.”

Your father’s steely expression softens as you drop back down to a sitting position in front of him.

“I am glad.” he sighs. “Some say that the most sincere expression of loyalty is to follow an order one does not see the reasoning behind. Hopefully you and Zabuza will become capable teammates, just as Lord Mizukage has foretold.”

You nod your head, somewhat happy that your father seems happy. Yet, in the back of your mind you have to wonder if Lord Mizukage pit you and Zabuza together for a different reason. Could he perhaps be hoping that the two of you will continue a rivalry of sorts?

“Dinner’s ready!” your mother chimes, walking into the room and placing a large pot on the table.

“Oh wow.” you exclaim as you look upon the cut of broiled eel and vegetables resting in front of you.

Lord Mizukage the 3rd was said to be both a great warrior and a cunning strategist, what he could be planning for you and Zabuza might be anyone’s guest. How that training would pan out was something to discover later, for now you merely wished to enjoy your dinner.

“This is impressive.” your father mutters, earning a look from you and your mother.

The two of you stare at your father as he lowers the cloth over his face. Slowly, he reveals the lower half of his mouth along with his sharp maw of teeth. Picking up a set of chopsticks, he reaches over to grab a piece of eel only to stop when he notices the two women in the household staring at him.

“Is something wrong?” he asks.

You and your mother snicker.

“I guess it really is you.” you giggle at him. “Now we can see your 'True Form’.”

Your father grimaces as the two of you continue to laugh at him.

“I… don’t understand.” your father grumbles.

“Oh, its nothing dear. We’re just happy to see your face again, even the ‘secret part’.” your mother chimes in.

Your father hums as he fixes his plate of food together, choosing to ignore the fun being had at his expense.

“Yes yes, quite amusing.” he grunts as he chomps into his food.

Soon, you and your mother are similarly enjoying your meals. Your mother gets up halfway through to help feed your infant brother as well, who seems to be laughing and giggling along with you all. It feels a little strange, as you can hardly remember the last time you were all together like this. Yet you can’t stop smiling throughout it all…

BANG!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzpq6vRDfR0

You freeze up, twisting your head to gaze out the dark window.

“What was that?” you ask.

BANG! BANG!

Putting down your chopsticks, you frown out the window as a series of small explosive nosies echoes over to you.

“Were those explosive tags?” you ask while rising your feet. “Where is that coming from?"

“No, I recognize that sound.” your father mutters, rising to his feet. “Myon, stay here with your mother and brother.”

Your father brandishes a scroll from out of his white tunic, unravels it, and suddenly in a puff of smoke he reveals a long katana sword much like your own. You’re quick to reach for your own katana while asking your father—

“What the Hell is going on?!”

Your father turns to you with a dark look to his scowl, as he covers up his mouth and nose with a growl.

“Someone has come to do us harm, stay here and protect our family.” he commands while stomping away from the dinner table. “I will handle this."

Your father leaves the dining room and heads outside as your mother, frozen with fear, holds onto your brother who begins to break out into a sob. While your father marches down the hall to the front door, you stand in the midst of your dining room with a sword in your hands and many questions flooding your mind.

What will Myon do?

>Obey your father and keep watch over your mother and Keiji?
>Follow after your father and help him confront whatever is happening?

You ready your sword as your mother carries your brother away to a corner of the room. Not wanting to disobey your father and leave them alone, you stay by as close as you can to protect them. However, your curiosity draws you toward a nearby window. You push it open and peer outside, catching glimpse of your father on the front lawn.

“It is indeed an honor to welcome you here.” your father's voice echoes over. “It is a long walk to here from Kirigakure, to what do I owe this pleasure Elder Hozuki?"

“Save your pleasantries Kyoji.” a man’s voice spits back. “I did not come here to listen to flattery.”

“It is only proper that I address you this way." your father calls back. “Would you rather I simply call you by your name, Zaigetsu?”

You lean your head out the window to see more clearly who your father is speaking to. Slowly inching your head outside, you see through the glimmer of a nearby lantern’s light that your father is speaking with someone roughly ten yards away. The figure you gaze upon has the look of a vulture about him; an old man with white hair wearing a black kimono who gives your father a grim scowl.

“Bah!” Zaigetsu caws. “Enough, you should know why I am here?!”

“You are incorrect, Elder Hozuki.” your father calls back. “Please, state your business.”

“I’ve come to learn the truth!” Zaigetsu growls. “Tell me how it was your daughter defeated the Demon Zabuza?”

Your father glares at Zaigetsu as a warm wind blows by them, billowing over the tall grass surrounding your home.

“I am unsure what it is you ask,” your father calmly shouts. “my daughter took the test just as every child did. She passed the final exam and defeated Zabuza through her own skill.”

“Uesugi,” Zaigetsu squawks. “do you mean to tell me that your daughter simply passed fair and square when my own grandson perished?!”

Your father stares Zaigetsu down for several seconds while the wind continues to blow between them.

“It is as you say, honored Eld—“

“I TELL YOU THIS CANNOT BE!”

The old man is practically frothing at the mouth while your father quietly stares back at him.

“Having fought in so many battles yourself, I am certain there is no need for me to explain how fickle fortune can be.” your father bows his head to Zaigetsu. “May the gods bless you and your grandson, I am sure he would have made a fine ninja had he lived.”

Your father turns away from Zaigetsu and walks toward your house when suddenly, Zaigetsu points his finger at him as if it were like one of those flintlock guns you had heard rumors about.

“DON’T YOU DARE TURN YOUR BACK ON ME PEASANT!”

BANG!

Your jaw drops as a blast of water emits from Zaigetsu’s fingertip, striking the ground near your father’s feet with enough force to make a small crater. Your father comes to a stop while Zaigetsu continues to point a finger gun at his back.

Panic seizes you while this harrowing situation unfolds. While your mind rapidly attempts to make sense of all this, you suddenly notice something is distinctly off about what you are seeing.

>97
>Great Success!

Your father, Kyoji, stands out there with his back turned to the Hozuki clan Elder, Zaigetsu, seemingly weaponless. You had seen him no more than a minute or so ago walk away with a katana in his hand. Why would he have discarded it when going out to meet Zaigetsu, unless…

That’s not your father!

Your eyes rapidly scan the shadowy horizon until you spot a figure slowly creeping through the tall grass, a katana gripped in his hands. Of course, the Water Clone Technique! Your father must have quickly created a clone, just like Zabuza did yesterday, in order to distract Zaigetsu! Now your father is attempting to use Soundless Murder Technique to stealthily strike at Zaigetsu!

However, will it succeed? You’ve heard of Clan Hozuki and know that they are one of the more respected and powerful clans in the village. You recall that Gengetsu Hozuki was the Second Mizukage, and thus one of the strongest ninja to ever live in your village. This Zaigetsu could be an elder brother of his… can your father really defeat him alone?

Standing there with baited breath, you put your faith in your father and wait to see what will happen. Silence falls over the land as a pale ray of moonlight pierces through the clouds above, casting light over the blood that is about to be shed.

“C’mon Dad…” you whisper while gripping your sword’s handle.

“Look at me Kyoji,” Zaigetsu calls out. “I want you to look me in the eyes for what I’m about to do…”

“…"

Your father, no, your father’s water clone slowly turns around and faces Zaigetsu with a fierce glare. The two of them lock eyes with one another, Zaigetsu’s rage etched across his face as if he himself were a demon while your father looked back at him without a hint of emotion.

“Common trash, that’s all you are!” Zaigetsu shouts. “Have you anything to say for yourself?!”

“You talk too much.” Kyoji hisses. “Shoot."

BANG!

Your heart skips a beat as Zaigetsu fires a thin stream of water through his fingertip, clearing the distance between the two of them in an instant! The blast strikes directly into your father’s forehead, piercing through the headband only for the entire figure to suddenly lose its shape and splash across the ground!

>65+15 = 80
>Success, DC 80

Your REAL father leaps from the tall grass and descends upon Zaigetsu!

“DRAGON-HAMMER-FLASH!”

“GYAAAAARGH!” Zaigetsu cries, your father’s sword cleaving through his left shoulder.

“He did it!” You shout, only for something beyond belief to happen!

Elder Hozuki’s entire body suddenly becomes transparent while your father’s sword follows through and slices through the rest of his body. Your father bounces back, readying his sword for a counterattack that fails to come.

“y-You bastard!” Zaigetsu cries. “my arm!”

For a moment, you assumed the worst; that Zaigetsu was simply a water clone himself. Yet the shimmering figure of the elder Hozuki regains physical substance as it stumbles away from your father. His blood drips down upon the ground.

“Its over Zaigetsu!” your father shouts. “I’ve sliced deeply into that arm. You can’t hope to use Ninjutsu against me now, if not for your clan’s Hydrification Technique I would have slaughtered you completely!”

“Damn you Uesugi!” Zaigetsu growls while gripping his arm. “I’m not finished with you yet! WATER-GUN-JUTSU!”

Suddenly the two of them sprint away from the house altogether, disappearing into the tall grass as Zaigetsu fires several more times at your father with his Water-Gun-Jutsu. You can hear their battle continuing on even as they drift further and further away from you all.

You turn back to your mother who looks to be shushing your baby brother, who is finally starting to calm down.

“Mom and Keiji would be helpless without me.” you mutter. “I got to stay behind.”

You hear several more small explosions go off in the distance, undoubtedly Zaigetsu’s Water Gun Jutsu. The noise grows fainter and fainter before finally going silent.

“Is it over?” your mother whispers.
“I’m not sure.” you mutter back.

As you strain your ears to hear any sign of your father and his foe, you hear a creaking noise from down the hall.

“Someone’s breaking in.” you hiss.

Motioning for your mother to step further back, you raise your sword up high and press your body against a wall beside the hallway. You can hear a creaking noise, several footsteps, coming directly towards you.

Clearing your mind from everything else, you focus on the enemies approaching you with a steady grip on your sword’s handle. Exhaling a cold sigh, you glare forward as two burly figures, their faces concealed underneath conical straw hats, shamble into the open.

“Where’s—“

>Great Success!

You tear your blade from its scabbard and slice into the first figure, your sword going through not just him but the man standing beside him as well!

“IAIDO-DRAW-JUTSU!”

The two thugs choke on their words as two geysers of warm red fluid spray over you, the unknown intruders collapsing into pieces on the floor.

“HOLY SHIT!” his compatriots shout, stepping back down the hall.

You step in front of the hallway entrance and gaze upon several figures, each of them appearing to be a man wearing a straw hat and carrying a knife or club.

“You picked the wrong house, fools!” you growl as you step closer with your sword.

“This old geezer isn’t paying us enough to kill ninja!” one of the men practically screams. “Let’s get the Hell out of here!”

Exhaling a breath you did not even realize you were holding, you watch as the remaining thugs stumble over each other in a desperate attempt to get as far away from you as possible. Swiping the blood from your sword, you slip it back into your sheath and get ready lest another foe appears.

“Hush little Keiji,” your mother whispers as she rocks your baby brother back and forth in her arms. “your big sister is watching over you…”

Casting a glance over at your mother and brother fills you with fury at these men who would dare threaten them. It was not too long ago that you struggled somewhat with taking a life, but after being exposed to such bloodshed as of late it is becoming more and more natural to you. That these foes in particular would threaten your loved ones only makes killing them that much easier.

“Who’s next?” you whisper.

Several minutes pass by in relative silence. No other challenger comes your way, although you are alert and ready should they come. Finally, after the anticipation begins to grate on your nerves, you hear your floorboards creak once more.

“Daughter,”

Your eyes widen as you peer down the hallway and spot your father standing in the front doorway.

“Father?” you call over to him, lowering your sword. “Is it finally over?”

Kyoji nods his head and without warning, raises the decapitated head of Zaigetsu Hozuki. The sight of his bloody head, jaw hanging open and eyes bulging out, is almost too jarring for you to take. You’re father has won his duel.

“Emi!” Your father shouts, lowering the head. “Are you and Keiji alright?”

“Kyoji!” your mother shouts while holding back tears. “We’re fine, little Keiji’s fallen asleep…”

Sweat drips down your cheeks, intermingling with the blood of the two men you had just killed.

“t-There were some men here,” you mutter while rubbing your forehead. “I guess the old man hired them to… to—“

“Did you get them all?” your father interrupts you.

“n-No! I stayed here the whole time, I protected the family just like you said!” you shout back at him.

“Daughter, you are shaking.”

Your eyes widen as you look at the blood staining your hands. While staring at this blood, your father drops both the severed head and his sword. To your shock, his arms envelop you in a hug.

“You did well,” he whispers. “incredibly well. I’d expect no less from the Demon-Slayer herself.”

Exhausted, you return your father’s hug as your eyes droop closed. Against all odds, your simple family has survived.

It just seems redundant to have a Demon of the Mist and a Demon-Slayer of the mist.

If all 4 of the kiddos get cool nicknames, they should be distinct IMO.

I mean personally if I hadn't been long asleep (work's a bitch), I'd have wrote in "Viper of the Mist" in reference to the fugu, and our apparent fondness for the lightning fast strikes of iaido.
>>
Honestly it doesn't really make sense that she would have the 'of the mist' appended yet. It suits zabazu who already has an affinity for the hiding in the mist technique, but for us the 'of the mist' is more what other villages would call us.

I agree the nickname rubs me the wrong way, what with Zabuza's own nickname. As much as It's impressive and fitting now, It'd be kind of lame if this is what we're known as years from now.

Maybe we can have a re-vote at some point.
>>
>>3079443
Well, putting a positive spin on it, if in the Shinobi War Myon gets a reputation for taking out enemy badasses, it might become super fitting.

But that's a lot of ifs.
>>
>>3079595
We're, what, five years before nart is born? We've got a bit of time to develop into a combat monster. Especially with all the experience we're about to get being a seven swordsman apprentice during the third world war.
>>
it just doesn't make sense to me. would Zabuza even get his name if there were survivors from his test? and I don't like that the PC's nickname only exists in reference to another character. but, well, just IMO. I would have voted for Viper, probably. Soaring Dragon is too grandiose

guy still killed a serious chunk of the class singlehandedly

Here are some cringy titles I can think off
>Iron Maiden of the mist
>Sword Maiden of the mist
>Slasher of the mist
>Dragon Blader
>Ghost Blader of the mist
>Chaos Ruler of the mist

I'll put forth surgeon as a suggestion. Historically a much more shameful profession than it is now, due to the uncleanness of blood, only a few steps removed from butchery,

Blue board my dude, you may want to delete that before you get banned.

I've added a little more to Myon's character sheet, in light of some of the decisions ya'll have leaned toward this session. If you guys feel like I'm missing anything, or that the sheet could use something else, please take a look and let me know.

If enough of you guys are real interested in Myon possibly earning a new nickname/title for herself, then she may yet get a chance.

At the moment, Myon and her companions' fame doesn't stretch that far outside of Kirigakure. It has only been a single day since their Final Exam, and there is plenty of trouble brewing on the horizon.

>>3079925
Iron Maiden of the Mist is a little tempting.

>>3080016
By extension, you could also go by Tanner of the Mist or even Gravedigger of the Mist. Coincidentally, Kirigakure's Hunter-Nin corps are codenamed "The Under-taker Squad" on account of how thoroughly they dispose of their targets' corpses.
>>
>>3080254
tanner and gravedigger would certainly be suitable nicknames for *A* mist ninja, but not THIS mist ninja, if that makes sense. Surgeon has a nice intersection of precision, contextual ugliness, and blade-involvement.

Will you run a session today QM?
>>
>>3079925
The title coming from a good start gradually turned into a chuuni title
>>
>>3080261
I was likely not going to run tonight, as I have work this evening and may have plans afterwards. I'll plan on continuing game likely some time in the middle of next week. I'll try to give a heads up here in the thread for exactly when I'll run next!

>>3080258
I can definitely see that, just by seeing her sword as a scalpel. I like it.
>>
>>3080268
I look forward to it QM, both the next session and a new name.
