Hey guys here is a continuation of our quest here
>>3019460

We have established a foothold on the human-dominated continent of Aswen. After a time, the fractured kingdom has heard tales of our conquests and we are threatened with open war.
>>
The Gods had awarded your people an intimate knowledge of the mystical and arcane. You could remember Vertax bursting from the temple, his old form nearly falling down the steps in his excitement. The sight had almost made you laugh, but his revelation had only filled you with awe. He shouted the secrets and inner workings of magic from the top of his lungs, for anyone who would deign to listen. Yet instead of confusion, as was normally the case when Vertax discussed anything mystical, his words were met with a deep understanding. Even you could feel it and before long members of your tribe had begun manifesting the barest forms of magic. A child could light his claw aflame and not be burnt, a mother could chill the air with her breath, others had reported communing with dead ancestors.

The Dark elves had been equally confused and welcomed the gifted into their fledgling academy. Vertax's knowledge eclipsed them all and before long he was providing instruction to both lizardfolk and elves in addition to his shamanic duties. Even Mafsius had attended a few classes, he left the outpost practically skipping. An activity you resolved to forbid the cyclops from the next time you spoke.

The Vampires reported daily, though the information they gathered was limited. Lord Darius had devised a plan to turn human leaders in an attempt to gain more intelligence, though you had made him pause for the moment. You needed time to think about your position before putting allies in dangerous situations. Regardless, the vampires learned something every day. The human kingdom was composed of three primary regimes, split amongst lords that all served the Queen. The vampires could not learn the names of these leaders, the general populace only knew them by title; The Lord of Blades, Lord Archmagus, and The Lord the Seven Suns. The Lord of Blades and the Lord Archmagus both held command in the twin cities Viding and Grose. While the other resided primarily in Eleypolis, though the spies claimed he traveled frequently to the capitol.

Have them sow discord in the Twin cities while we plan an ambush on the Lord of the Seven Suns when his travelling to the capitol.
>>
You contacted Darius, an idea had sprung to mind. You had no need to jeopardize the vampires position by having them target lords and nobility. The human kingdom was already fractured and weakened, beset for years by civil war and turmoil. You would have the vampires sow dissent within the twin cities, isolate two-thirds of the queen's forces while you snuffed out the sun. The vampire lord was pleased with the plan and claimed he would dispatch his forces at once. It would take some time for the creatures to reach the cities and begin their unrest, but you had been patient nearly a decade. What were a few more weeks?

In the meantime you commisioned more ships from both the port village and beach camp. It would be possible to move the main base of operations to the island fortress, but the deployment of your troops via ship would be awkward and cumbersome. At the same time, the dragons provided an almost unstoppable defense at sea, the ships were simply not armed with weapons that faced the sky. It would be suicide for an enemy to attack the island if both dragons were present.

A) Move camp to the island fortress
B) Raid a settlement, aid the vampires by instilling fear in the human populace
C) Have Mafsius create something (choose another option)

Did the Troll Boars population not grow that much?

Also, are we literally lacking in weapons at this moment? We'd have 1 spear for every 4 warriors with those numbers mate.

ahh good catch, forgot to update the numbers, safe to assume with the smiths and mafsius you have enough weapons for every soldier

the boars, unfortunately, breed slow

C) Have Mafsius create something (50 worker golems which will be dedicated to crafting more worker golems)
D) Spend some time researching how to build either faster ships or bigge

Hey man you might want to start rounding the population and tools to like the 100s or something so you dont get bogged down with the minutia/tracking every small thing. like I dont need to know how many spears we have exactly as long as you give us a rough idea of how many troops we can arm or like knowing we have about 4500 males lets me plan just as well(like 95% of the time) as knowing we have exactly 4562 males.

You sent word to Mafsius, ordering the construction of more worker golems. With nearly 100 of the creatures now, you wagered Mafsius could create nearly anything in a reasonable amount of time. Vertax was busy instructing the next generations of mage, Thesik was probably sunning herself with Cyrus, You decided your productivity would be best spent at the beach camp.

The naval construction was going well enough, you're people had mastered the ability to create medium sized ships and sail them through rough seas. The men at the beach camp had been working tirelessly and you had to appreciate the fleet that was anchored off the shoreline. All in all, you possessed about 30 ships, a far cry from the original five you set sail with.

The dark elf foreman was more than happy to receive your help and you spent the next few days finishing the largest ship yet. The dark elf called it a galleon, proclaiming that it would be the flagship of the fleet and so had poured considerable time and effort in the bow. The roaring twin dragon heads stuck above the water in decorative defiance. Even you agreed it was a nice touch.

As you finished for the night, the communication stone you carried began to hum. You touched the faintly glowing rock and the vampire's voice filled your ears. "The spies are in the cities, we have no word on the Lord of the Seven Suns yet."

Have Mafsius create ~25 Masterwork Arcane Golems and another 150 Masterwork Air Cannons for the arquebus/air-rifle brigade.

Also, I assume the siege golems are already armed. Perhaps 13 catapults and 12 ballista?
>>
>>3053293
You'd have to manufacture more siege weapons to arm them, but with the number of worker golems they can easily be created. so ill add them to your post
>>
You would need ranged armaments to assail the cities and frontline troops who could outpace your footsoldiers. "Have them wait, Darius, we need more information, report to me when you hear anything."

"Yes Chieftain." The vampire's deep voice filled your ears, it was a minor drawback of the stones. They made it sounds as though the person had really invaded your mind. You held the stone and focused on Mafsius trying to make contact with the stone placed in his workshop. The cyclops had taken to wearing it around his neck, he could never be bothered to locate the tiny object in all his chaos. His voice nearly shook your head from your neck when he answered.

"Chieftain! How are you?"

"Mafsius, I need you to construct 25 arcane golems and an additional 150 air cannons, all masterworks." You kept it short and to the point, ideas were spinning in your head as you planned an attack on a city you had never seen. Once more victory felt so close you could nearly reach out to grab it.

"We'll have them done in no time Chief." The cyclops replied happily, you could almost hear the clanging of his hammer, but the stone only sent the spoken words of the user. "We can also outfit all the siege constructs with weapons as well, the workers can handle them in a day."

"Report back when you've finished." You went to sever the connection but not before the smith's jovial "aye aye" came through. He had spent only 9 days at the island fortress and was already adopting the jargon customary of the dark elf sailors. You gave a sigh, the cyclops was just as childlike as ever.

>>
You watched the soldiers train with the new air cannons and marveled at the lethality. The long rifle was a truly masterful work, capable of firing six shots at nearly 200 yards, while still packing enough punch to puncture plate mail. The lizardfolk were average with the weapon, hitting about half their targets with each volley, while the dark elves excelled. Each eld could place the fired stone through the helmet of his target which even at 300 yards was sure to be lethal. Mafsius was as clever as he was murderous it seemed, the lever action design of the rifle allowed the cylindrical chamber to be expended in seconds. You watched an elf unload his weapon and pop out the cylinder, another sat beside him and loaded new rounds into it. The whole process, from firing to reloading took the elves about 30 seconds, your lizardfolk took closer to 45.

Vertax had been pleased with the construction of the Arcane Golems and he spent many hours showing his students various spells using the stone giants as conduits. He could nearly the double the range of his missiles by simply targeting one of the hulking constructs with it. He could use multiple golems as a sort of relay, the spell attracted to their mana infused hide and being released from multiple sources at once. They made one mage appear to be 5.

Darius had reported with the vampire's findings. The city of Grose, where the Lord of Blades resided, was certainly the most well defended. Armed soldiers patrolled the streets in stiff patterns and full gear, there were no layabouts or drunkards to be found among them. A strict curfew was enforced and most crimes were met with capital punishment. But the civilians lived in fear, they hated the guards and were frustrated in their powerlessness against them. It would make for a prime target to sow discord.

Viding, on the other hand, was a more relaxed city. The guards were plentiful but not nearly as well armed or led as those in Grose. Magic was common, with many city officials and leaders being mages themselves. The vampires reported a happy populace with a high standard of living, much of Aswen's technology and educated citizens came from here. It would be difficult to cause an uprising here, but limiting the supply of wizards and technology to the rest of the kingdom would be a terrible blow.

The final matter came regarding the Lord of the Seven Suns, a pompous title if you had ever heard one. The vampires could elarn little about his city, Eleypolis, but had determined he was to venture towards the capitol to meet with the Queen. They warned however, his caravan was always heavily guarded and the humans claimed high numbers of paladins followed him wherever he went. It would a difficult target to assail and you had no information regarding his contribution to the human kingdom.

A) Attack the caravan (where?)
B) Raid a human settlement to keep him in Eleypolis
C) Sow discord within the cities, The Lord will journey there instead.

Hm, since Eleypolis is so isolated, what if we simply destroy his ports and blockade the mountain pass? If he tries to break through the pass, we invade from the sea, if he tries to break through the sea, we invade through the pass. If he tries to cross the mountains, we pick him apart as he comes down while also razing his lands. If he turtles up, then we raid his villages.

Also, what do we know about the two un-named cities closest to us? Perhaps we should take them first?

The vampires would wreak havoc within the cities and divert the Sun Lord from his path. Regulating information to the capitol was your primary aim, at least until you had wrested more of the Queen's power away. You were sure the villages and outposts you conquered had some effect, but you'd need to lay claim to an entire city for her to reel in pain. The vampires were instructed to begin their rebellion, it would take time to stir the citizens to revolt. You only hoped all would go as planned in that time.

Nearly two weeks passed before the next communication from the spies came through. Regular voyages to the islands were common and they brought with them a few hundred troops in that time. The vampires had been successful in both cities, though far more in Grose. Perhaps most importantly, they heard rumours that the Lord of the Seven Suns was coming to pacify the rebellion. You had consulted the map, and decided that even in full march the lord would still take over 2 weeks to travel with any significant force. You could box him in at the mountain pass, prevent his ships from leaving port. It would make your presence known to him, but would cripple the morale of the afflicted cities.

Vertax suggested an assault on the weakened areas. Taking one or both cities before The Sun Lord could bring reinforcements. Doing so with severely hamper the Queen's ability to retaliate, as two-thirds of her military might was stripped away. It was a fine plan but not without its problems, your forces were certainly faster than an armored caravan, but the route would take you dangerously close to Caphis, where the strength of the humans was greatest. Moreover, laying siege to two military cities would require all your strength, your holdings in the south would be nearly defenseless. You held your head in thought, there were too many choices and too many variables, what would you do?

A) Block the Lord of Suns from reaching the Twin Cities
B) Siege Viding and Grose before reinforcements arrive
C) Assault another human settlement, so confusion among where the enemy lies

You would block the Sun Lord at the mountain pass. You poured over the map again, ensuring that this was the right plan. An unnamed city held the route through the mountains that he would take but you imagined only a small outpost or garrison held the other side. If you stationed forces within the pass, you could hold him back with far fewer numbers and send the remaining forces along the coast to block off his ports. You would strike from both angles, splitting his defenses and taking the city.

There were problems however, those you felt needed to be solved before committing lives to the plan. How well was Eleypolis defended? Should the dragons join the naval assault? Your ships were ill-suited for combat and the dragons would be poor in a mountain tunnel. At the same time, two adult dragons could turn the tide of any conflict and the blockade was certainly more dangerous than keeping ships in port. You had little information at the mountain city as well, it was the only land route to Eleypolis, chances are it was a military stronghold designed to secure the border, it would be difficult to siege down.

If this was the move, you would need to act fast. What troops would you bring? How would they be deployed? Time was running out.

You would play to the strengths of each troop, splitting your forces in half against an unknown defense meant that each unit needed to be the most effective. The dragons would clear the ships in port and make way for the harbor. A raiding party of troops and stone golems would be sent in the ships with them, your ships could only carry about 600, and so that is what they would bring.

The ground force would have all the War Golems, alongside siege constructs, stone, arcane, and crystal golems. They could suffer the brunt of an assault before you started losing actual lives. All together the ground force would contain nearly all of your combat golems, 3000 male lizardfolk, 100 dark elf arquebusiers/ mages, 225 Troll boar cavalry, yourself and Vertax. It was a powerful force, armed literally to the teeth in Mastercraft arms, but you could only pray it would be enough.

Thesik insisted on joining the naval forces to assail the harbor and you begrudgingly agreed. It was a relatively safe assault and the dragons would respond better to her commands than a sergeant. You left the southern peninsula guarded by precious few living creatures, but a large number of mud and wood golems. You did not expect a counterattack at this time and the autonomous brutes should be fine in keeping the slaves in check.

The march went smoothly enough, a boon to which you were most grateful for. You stayed along the coastline, traveling as much through lands you controlled as possible. It might have been a powerful force, but an army led by 24-foot giants of steel was anything but subtle. After 7 days in full forced march, you could see the mountain range nearby. You deployed scouts to the main road and ordered the troops rest for the evening. It was suicide to fight with an exhausted army. Thesik notified that her forces were in position, you would strike simultaneously, divide the enemy forces as best you could in the chaos.

Morning came and your forces stirred to life, they broke the hastily erected camp and began the march towards the mountain pass. Nervousness stuck in your breast like a thorn. It was a wide road, well worn and hard packed over the years by feet, hooves and wagon wheels. It wound its way into a cavernous tunnel through the mountains, nearly 40 feet high and 60 across it was an impressive cave to be sure. And something you were happy to see; the size was fine for the hulking golems and the cramped space of a mountain pass made it so outflanking was impossible. This battle would turn into a straight-up brawl, and your army excelled at that kind of fighting. Vertax sniffed the air with his tongue as the procession neared the cave. "I can smell the humans." His eyes narrowed as he peered into the torchlit corridor. "Though whether they are in the tunnel or their city I cannot say."

"We will meet them regardless." You assured the shaman. "Order Thesik to begin the attack." Vertax gave a nod and you began ordering the troops into the formation.
>>
The humans had been holed within the city. It seemed that somehow they had anticipated your arrival. The moment the golems rounded a curve in the tunnel, siege weaponry from the city opened fire. Ballista bolts nearly 8 feet long bounced off the magic-infused skin of the war golems, while enormous boulders were hurled overhead, falling harmlessly on the upraised shields. You had been right to order the golems in first and you smiled at the futility of the human attacks. What force could they bring to bear that could stop your titans? Soon the Great hammer golems had reached the gates and the first mighty swing left a massive dent in the steel entryway. The clang of metal filled your ears as the golems beat away at the defenses and the defenses beat away at the golems.

"My Lord! Behind us!" A voice burst from the turmoil. You spun to peer down the cavern. The sounds of battle had drowned them out, horses clad ornate barding thundered down the corridor and your keen senses detected the marching of feet behind.

"Trolls to the rear! Spears in front, cannons behind!" You belted the orders and panic flowed through your ranks. The men shifted and moved, the boars were cumbersome in this cavern and nearly trampled your own forces, but you would bet on their ferocity over a horse. "Arquebusiers, Fire!" You gave the order and punctuated while raising Incandescent Lament, the swords length glowed like a fresh ember. The cannons fired and the report nearly deafened you in the cramped space. Rocks flew at great speeds and met their targets. Horses dropped as the bullets pierced soft flesh and broke the bones beneath, men were thrown from their mounts only to be trampled by the following line. "Aim for the horses!" You thundered, the steeds were a larger target and disrupted the enemy charge more than the riders did. "Fire!" The second salvo streaked through the air bringing down another handful of knights. They had closed the distance, the boars would meet them now. "Charge!" The squealing of bloodthirsty boar and the sharp scrape of claws on stone filled the cavern as the Troll Boars lunged at the enemy. The boars were more fearsome, but their riders were far more skilled. Lances buried themselves in the flesh of your rides, goring them on the long shaft before dumping them to the ground. You saw a boar grab a horse in its jaws, tearing the head off the creature before killing the rider. Your units were larger and could not charge in even rows as the knights had before long enemies had broken through. The first was close you could nearly taste the sweat from his brow as he bellowed a war cry and leveled his lance. The cannons could not fire for fear of killing your own troops, the shield wall braced itself, spear outstretched in a deadly formation. The knight drove himself straight into the line, his horse impaled innumerable times by the long spears, yet the weight and momentum of the beast sent it crashing through and into the cannon line behind.
>>
More knights broke through, the thunder of hooves filling your ears as your men struggled to reform the ranks. Behind in the distance, you heard the tremendous clang of metal as the heavy gate was sheared from its hinges by the war golems. The boars weren't losing, you could hear the screams of men as they ripped them apart. But they could not stymie the charge all together either. Human forces within the city would pour out if you did not enter the gate soon. You had the choice, fight an enemy on both sides in this tunnel, or on all sides in the city.

start going in to the city, but slowly we will make them pay for every inch.

>>
"Vertax!" You thundered over the din of combat. "Give orders to push into the city, we will grind them beneath our advance!" The soldiers understood your plan and you were sure the shaman had heard you. The next few knights galloped into the line, only to be skewered by the outstretched spikes. The troll boars were savage creatures and it took far more than a passing lance to bring one down, you could see none had fallen yet. "Cavalry fall back!" You gave the order as the line dropped back one step, the shields loudly clanging as they dropped into position. "To the walls!" By some miracle, the units heard your command and made way to the sides of the cavern, the parting of armored flesh made way for a new wave of knights to come crashing through.

It was exactly as you had hoped. The knights were charging blindly, aiming to crash into your ranks and break formation in this cramped tunnel. Yet now, funneled through by walls of gnashing teeth they made easy targets for the air cannons. The order had scarce left your throat before the explosion of gunfire swept the words away. Four volleys tore down the tunnel and each was met with the satisfying wet thump and screaming that betrayed a solid hit. The tunnel was gradually filling with the corpses of horse and rider alike, you had broken the knights' charge for the moment.

Omtept unleashed gouts of hellfire along the battlements that overlooked the harbor. The screams of dying archers drowned out the sound of countless arrows bouncing off his gleaming plate. The humans had been prepared for their assault, warships and soldiers dotted the water and city beneath him. It would have been a flawless defense against the vulnerable ships but the humans had failed to account for the twin dragons. He saw Cyrus raining frozen death on the defenseless ships beneath him and tore the masts off those he flew near, crippling the vessels while the soldiers froze. Omtept turned his gaze back towards the tall ramparts, his liquid fire had soaked the stone and continued to burn. The humans would have a difficult time using them again. From his height, Omtept could see more troops moving through the city, armed with bows and pushing ballistae. He tilted his great wings and set off upon them.

"Cavalry, reform ranks!" You called the disjointed riders. You could see the rows of soldiers advancing down the corridor, it was your turn to skewer them. Yet as the boars moved from the walls and through the center of the hallway you saw the ranks of soldiers break and men wheeled weapons through to the fore. They were large and bore shapes similar to ballista, yet instead of bolts, they sported 4 barrels each. The design reminded you eerily of the scorpions Mafsius could produce and before you could give an order the enemy soldiers opened fire.

Each weapon spat four arrows down the corridor, the missiles burying themselves deep within the exposed flanks of the troll boars while other bounced off the thick plate. The beasts howled in pain and the riders struggled to maintain formation. You watched the soldiers turn great cranks along the weapons, readying it to fire again. "Vertax!" You bellowed searching for the shaman, he was caught somewhere in the army, the tight space making it difficult to move, "A shield at the rear, now!"

The Shaman heard, somehwere in the crowd is voice rumbled with arcane might as he conjured a shimmering veil in front of the boars. The next salvo came forth and not a moment too soon as the spell took hold. The deadly bolts bounced off the wall, leaving rippling trails along its surface. Another salvo shot out and the wall weakened for a moment before reforming again. Vertax's deep voice sounded strained as he blocked the onslaught, he would not hold forever.

Omtept dived towards the enemy soldiers, intending to gain enough speed that the powerful ballistae would be unable to track him. Missiles whizzed by him as he opened his great maw, electricity arcing between his teeth. Then suddenly, as though cast from the Gods themselves, a bolt of lightning shot from the sky and collided against the dragons back. Omtept recoiled from the impact, beating his great wings so as not to crash into the rooftops. He roared at the sky in rage as another bolt fell from the clouds, narrowly missing and obliterating the stone building beneath. Omtept's affinity for lightning protected him from the crackling barrage, but he pulled course to locate its source.

In the harbor, Cyrus continued the grim task of slaughtering the navy of Eleypolis. Merchant ship and war vessel alike were frozen and torn asunder by his wrath and the hundreds of tiny arrows bounced off his armor like droplets of rain. Beneath his great blue wings the dragon felt the wind shift, the calm breeze now becoming stiff and strong. Cyrus beat faster against the current as it rose to a gale, the sails of the ships beneath him flapped in the turbulent wind. Soon arrows were being blown away as the storm gathered strength and the great silver dragon struggled to keep his course. The seas churned with angry foam as the very ocean was whipped up by the gale. Through the whipping winds, Cyrus could make out a human voice as though carried upon the storm itself.
>>
The voice rippled with power but it was unlike the arcane chants of magic he had heard before. He struggled to find the source as the storm grew stronger, waves nearly ten feet high crashed into the ships and the howling gale pushed Cyrus back towards his allied fleet.
