In the far future, biotechnology advances by leaps and bounds, creating stunning achievements in medical, civil, and military applications. Illness becomes a thing of the past, and genetic modification is as commonplace as cosmetic surgery.

However, like all great advances, unchecked progress and experimentation has led to abuse and corruption. Ultra powerful megacorporations that monopolized the latest biotech have risen to be the great powers of the age, waging secret wars of sabotage, espionage, and deceit to get ahead of each other.

In order to fuel their rampant growth, megacorps develop lethal diseases and viruses, horrific bio-organic abominations, and ever more exotic genetic modifications to both sell to the highest bidder and unleash upon each other.

The rampant proliferation of bioweapons, and the need to contain them, has given rise to a new profession, the BIOWEAPON HUNTER.

You are LEWIS, a Hunter specializing in hunting down biological threats with your T-Doll companion HK!

Currently, you were back home, well, your old home, where you grew up. It was a nice, sizeable ranch tucked away in a special corner of nowhere, pretty much completely off the grid and largely self sufficient. Mom was the type of person who valued her privacy, and considering today's developments, you could now sort of understand why.

In light of your recently emerging abilities, though, Mom had promised to help teach you how to hide and control them. After all, it would be inconvenient for people to figure out that you had magical ability.

Geez, you still couldn't quite wrap your head around that. You weren't even a girl!

Regardless, Mom had led you out of the house, and you just wordlessly followed her as she took you out to...

Mom leads you out the nearby lake. A man made one. At one end is a small concrete dam, which generated electricity for the house and created a sizeable reservoir for drinking water. It was a respectable little thing. Not exactly a full sized lake and more of a really large pond, but nobody argued about the semantics.

On the shore was a small dock, with a small motorboat moored to it. Still in rather good condition, fortunately. Mom just casually jumps in and motions for you to follow.

"Come on, it's a little farther." She says.

"What are we doing...?" You frown, a bit perplexed.

"Just some training. Trust me." Mom shrugs.

You cautiously sit in the boat, and Mom pulls the engine cord. The motor coughs to life, and the motorboat gently rolls out into the center of the lake.

"So, this is gonna be tough to teach, since there's nothing logical about magic. At all." Mom speaks up as she steers the boat. "It all runs on emotions and adrenaline. The heat of the moment. Probably why the Companions preferred targeting girls. We're more prone to that sort of shit."

You just nod silently, wondering what sort of point Mom was trying to make.

"Anyways, magic potential didn't really trigger unless the girl was in a seriously heightened state of emotional distress." Mom further explains.

"Well the, how are we-"

And the words die your mouth and your insides freeze as your mind finally makes the connection.

"Good luck, kid." Mom says nonchalantly as she kicks you in the chest, her heavy boot knocking all the air out of your body as it splashes into the freezing water.

"GAH!" You yelp as your head breaks the surface, your arms flailing to stabilize your body. "What the fuck, Mom?!"

"Better act fast, Lewis!" Mom says, already motoring away on the boat.

That's when your biosensor buzzes, warning you of something approaching. Something BIG. Behind you, the water begins to ripple as something very large slithers just beneath the surface.

Relax, there's nothing in the lake that could support such a huge thing biologically. There isn't any report of a massive loss of wildlife from it either. It's just our sister fucking with us.
Goddamn our logic.
>>
>>3037230
Our mother could have put it there recently. If you're right about it being Carol, we look a little silly. If you're wrong, we might get a huge bite taken out of us.
>>
>>3037230
Second.
>>
>>3037230
We're trying to train our magic by putting ourselves in 'a seriously heightened state of emotional distress'. While you're probably right about it being Carol, relaxing would sort of defeat the purpose of this exercise.

That's why I added 'goddamn our logic'. We probably should feel distressed for the sake of triggering our magic but the little kid in the back of our head keeps whispering to us our hard earned wisdom of our mother and sister's antics that it's hard to take it seriously, even when we really really want to.

You swim as fast as you can. You're not exactly an Olympic level swimmer or anything, but you've kept yourself in good enough physical condition that you're fairly fast regardless. However, it's not quiet enough.

You're only halfway there, but your biosensors continues to screech at the approaching threat behind you. You woudn't be fast enough, unless...

And the world seems to stop. It was just like before, when Loki first appeared to you. In addition the color seems to bleed out, turning everything into shades of grey and black. Leaves hang in the air, while the water is still as if frozen into ice.

You... you couldn't really move yourself. Your body feels heavy and sluggish, like you're submerged in a lake of tar instead of water. But your mind worked just as quickly as ever.

"Oh my, this is quite the development." Loki chuckles as he strolls casually atop the water's surface. "Time manipulation, eh? Quite the rare talent."

"What are you doing here?" You frown.

"Just to provide bit of context for your newly discovered power." Loki purrs as he rubs his body across the back of your head. "This is quite the useful power to get yourself out of a jam, you know? If a roll doesn't quite turn your way, you can use this to force a reroll! Isn't that great?"

"W-what?" You blink.

"But you're limited to one use per session! So make it wise!"

>TIMESTOP: Grants a free reroll once per session.

And just like that, Loki is gone.

But that gives you time. Time to think. Your crystal dagger appears in your hand, exuding a calming warmth.

And just like that, color and sound flow back into the world, slamming into you like a tidal wave. Thankfully, you manage to keep your senses, and see the lake creature heading straight for you. On pure reflex, you swipe you dagger and there's a flash. A blade light slices through the water towards the creature, and there's an explosion as Carol comes shooting through the air, landing next to you in a loud splash.

"You big meanie! What was that for?!" Carol whines, staying afloat in the water far easier than you.

"You were trying to attack me!" You reply in exasperation.

"I was only making it LOOK like I was trying to attack you!" Carol grumbles.

"All right kids, that's enough." Mom chuckles as she pulls up in the boat, offering a hand to you. "Good job, Lewis. You just got past the first hurdle."

"Um, thanks?" You frown.

"Time magic's pretty powerful." Mom nods. "You live long enough and nurture that power, you'll be a pretty scary fucker."

You're honestly not even surprised at this point Mom already figured out what power you manifested.

"But you got a little taste of what its like to call on that power. It comes in flashes. Intense periods. You keep your cool, you keep your senses, and you won't lose control."

"Is it... that simple?" You blink.

"Urgh, I guess." You groan.

Carol is already waiting for the both of you at shore, waving happily.

"Anyways, Carol can teach you how to use some of your Invader side." Mom grunts. "I technically have all the Queen powers, but I usually just delegate that shit to Carol. She's more in tune with it than I am."

"Oh, right. Guess they covered all that shit up, too." Mom rolls her eyes. "Short version, the Invader Queen tried to come and eat Earth, some space magic on a part of me and we managed to get rid of her, but I, uh, inherited some shit from her."

"You see, Invaders are a hive mind! We share information through a combination of low level telepathy and genetic memory!" Carol chimes. "That makes teaching you things really really easy!"

"Okay, so how does it work?" You wonder.

"Just uh, sorry Lewie, but the first time is gonna hurt a bit!" Carol says apologetically as she steps forward.

"What-"

Carol then lunges forward, a black armored hand clutching the front of your head. Everything goes black, but you see flashes of images. Memories. Too blurry and alien to comprehend on your own, but there are some you can see little more clearly...

So I'm assuming we also get some form of shifting power so that we can disguise ourselves as different people along with whatever combat powers we get.

We should see how far we can go in terms of disguises. Like growing a beard, getting taller/shorter, younger, older, and even male enhancement like bigger muscles!

You see a thick, though shell, almost impervious to harm. It was so simple, honestly. Almost like child's play.

And just as suddenly, the memory fades away, and you notice your skin is... different. It wasn't skin any more, but instead, a layer of crystal coating your body like a shell.

>CRYSTAL SKIN: A fusion of a common Invader evolution and Magical Girl Kaledioscope's innate power, Crystal Skin affords virtual immunity to slashing and stabbing attacks while being resistant to most others types of damage. However, it is vulnerable to blunt attacks. Will activate to trauma on reflex. Conscious full body armoring costs energy.

"Pretty!" Carol squeals as she hugs you. "I've never seen this before!"

"It's definitely something." Mom grunts. "Guess we should be heading back now. Bet your robobuddy is getting worried."

"Yeah, let's head back." You nod.

And so you, Mom, and Carol head back to the house, with Carol still teasing you a bit as she usually did on the way back.

Already, the sun was starting to sink low in the sky when you all got back. HK was still sanding at attention at the door, like a royal guard. Her eyes flicker and glow when she sees you all return.

"It is good to see you've returned safely." HK say calmly. "I have been standing guard on the property. Nothing to report."

"Just the way I like it." Mom nods as she walks past HK and into the house. "Hey, since we're all together again, how about I crack open a few cold ones?"

Oh no.

Mom was trying to get you all to drink.

Again.

"Lewis, is something the matter?" HK asks curiously. "Your vitals spiked for 0.63 seconds."

"Nah, just a little something Mom likes to do." You sigh. "Come on."

You lead HK back into the house and to the kitchen where you see Mom has already pulled out the whiskey bottle, much to Springfield' disapproval.

"Alice, I thought we went over this." The Doll caretaker frowns. "You shouldn't drink in excess. It's hazardous to your health."

"Heh, with all the shit I've exposed my body too, a bit of inebriation should be the least of your worries." Mom rolls her eyes as she rolls out the shot glasses. "Come on, Lewis, let's see if you've toughened up in the time you were gone!"

"Yeah!" Carol giggles as she pick up her own glass.

"Lewis, this is a course of action I do not advise." HK warns.

"Don't worry, it shouldn't be too bad..." You try to assure her.

You reach down and pick up one of the filled shots glasses, glancing at the powerful amber liquid within.

"Well, bottoms up!" Mom says happily.

Fortunately, you're able to hold your own in the first round, the shot merely burning its way down your throat. Neither Mom nor Carol looked phased at all. Carol was some shapeshifting alien horror that you weren't completely sure could even get drunk at all, and Mom was... Mom.

"Aw yeah! That's the stuff!" Mom says happily as she pours the next round. Springfield continues watching with a disapproving expression, but doesn't do anything to stop it. "Hey, HK, you wanna give this a try?"

"My systems would merely recycle the alcohol into chemical fuel." HK states simply. "It is not affected in the same way biological humans are."

"I'll take that as a yes." Mom grins as she holds a glass out to HK.

HK gives you a curious look, as if wondering whether to take it from her or not.

And... rather expectantly enough, HK doesn't appear to be affected by the alcohol at all.

"There there, Mom! I'm sure you can find someone who can keep up with you!" Carol giggles.

"Doubt it." Mom says as she grabs the bottle and starts drinking from it.

You're laughing so much you can barely finish your own shot.

The drinking continues into the night, until finally, Carol falls asleep in her chair. Guess even she had her limits, in a way.

"Shit, maybe we did go a little too far." Mom chuckles. "I think I'll go get some fresh air. Walk it off a bit."

As Springfield thoughtfully drapes a blanket over Carol, Mom heads back out the door, slightly unsteady as she goes.

Carol, despite being asleep, snorts loudly.

"Then perhaps it would be prudent to retire for the night so you can regain your stamina." HK advises.

You sleep is dreamless, or if you did dream, you retained no memory of it.

However, what you DO remember is being rudely woken up by HK, who just the night before was recommending you get as much sleep as you can.

"What's wrong?" You grunt, trying to wipe the sleep out of your eyes.

"We having incoming." HK warns you. "An object has breached the perimeter alarms and is approaching at a rapid velocity.

You rush to the front porch, where Mom is already out there, rifle in hand. Carol was nowhere to be found, though she was most likely lurking somewhere in hiding, just in case.

"Looks like a single car approaching." Springfield reports to Mom as she stares down the single main road that leads to the house. "No signs of extra occupants."

"What a minute..." Mom frowns as she squints. "Is that..."

You find your heart stopping when you finally see it too.

The quickly approaching car was a Raccoon City police car. Only one person came to mind who would both know the location of Mom's house and be part of the RCPD.

"Lucina...?" You mumble in surprise.

"I can handle this Mom." You grin slightly as you step forward ahead of her. "Besides, it's not like I did anything wrong, right?"

Mom just pauses and gives you a hard, cautious stare.

"...fine." She finally decides. "Just remember, she can't know about the magic."

"Got it, Mom." You nod. "Don't worry, I know."

Mom just gives a deep sigh and heads back to the porch, plopping down in one of the chairs set up outside.

At this point, the police car has reached the house proper. Is screeches to a stop and Lucina comes barreling out of the driver's seat.

"All right, Alice, where did take- Lewis?"

Lucina pauses in surprise as she finally realizes its you meeting her.

"Huh, doesn't look like much of a kidnapping." ST-AR remarks casually as she calmly exits from the passenger car.

"Lucy, what are you doing out here?" You blink.

Lucina is about to speak as if she's about to go on a rant, but catches herself and takes a deep breath to calm herself down. Yeah, she was well aware of Mom's disapproval of your once close friendship.

"It's good to see you're well, Lewis." Lucina says, now a bit calmer. "Though I do admit, I was a bit concerned when you were so suddenly whisked away to... your mother's home."

"And what reason did you have to investigate?" You ask suspiciously.

"It's just..." Lucina sighs. "Just a lot of small things I've noticed over the years. How she's always so private and guarded all these years. Always being so anxious when me and Nemo are around. And then there's the fact of how she's even friends with my parents. My mom, especially, who specializes in researching old Magical Girl and Invader technology. And then you just up and disappear after a job..."

Lucina runs her hand along the wooden fence marking the perimeter of the ranch. A warm breeze blows, rustling the grass around you.

"So... I ran the background check. And I didn't find anything."

"Would that be a good thing?" You raise an eyebrow.

"No, I mean, I literally did not find ANYTHING." Lucina grabs your hand and holds it tight. "The war years, they're completely blank. Gone. Completely expunged. That's not normal."

"Lucina-"

"Lewis, just let met finish." Lucina closes her eye and takes a breath. "Is your Mom a Magical Girl?"

"That's something you should ask her yourself." You frown.

"You and I both know what's she's going to answer with." Lucina squeezes your hand. "I need to hear it from you."

"Of course not. Everybody knows Magical Girls aren't around anymore." You shake your head.

You didn't want betray Mom's wishes. If she didn't want Lucina to know, then you couldn't tell her Besides, you technically weren't lying, either. Mom wasn't a Magical Girl, at least not anymore. She was just... Mom.

Lucina exhales loudly. Exasperation? Relief? It was a bit hard to tell.

"Maybe I'm just overthinking this..." Lucina grumbles. "Wesker just quits and appoints me as his replacement, and he suddenly gets a position on the Umbrella Board of Directors..."

"And, well, I just don't know what the heck is going in Wesker's mind!" Lucina groans. "Did he appoint me because he felt I was qualified for the job? Or is he trying to set me up for failure?"

"Does it matter? You have the opportunity to run the department your way now." You shrug. "I thought that's what you wanted."

"I'm just a little wary" Lucina sighs. "Just because Wesker got sent upstairs doesn't change the fact Umbrella is still a big benefactor to the department. I'm not a scummy corporate shill like Wesker, but that doesn't mean I can just ignore them."

"Well, all this corporate politic stuff isn't really my thing, but if you need something shot or blown up, I can do that. I won't even charge you for it." You grin.

"Please, let's not make my job any harder." Lucina chuckles. "But it's good to see you're okay. When Carol told me what happened I feared the worst."

"And you drove all the way out here to check up on me. I appreciate it."

"Still, I've left a lot of work piling up on my desk." Lucina sighs. "I better head back, especially if things are fine here."

"Hey, let's go the treehouse." You grin. "Wonder if it's still there?"

"Five bucks it's totally collapsed by now." Lucina chuckles.

"So little faith in our workmanship!" You gasp.

"It's been almost a decade already. My hopes aren't high." Lucina huffs. "Plus, it was my dad that did all the work, remember?"

"Hey... I helped." You mumble.

"Anyways, now's our chance! Let's go!"

Still holding your hand, Lucina tugs you forward into a patch of tall grass and you both make a dash for a small copse a trees. Nestled in there was an old treehouse you, Lucina, Nemo, and Carol used to play as kids. It was nice and secluded, and a good escape from Mom's often overbearing nature.

The treehouse itself was a rather simple thing. Basically just a wooden shack built on top of a tree, with the only access being a set of wooden rungs nailed directly into the trunk. Looking up, you could see that the treed had grown in your absence, but the treehouse didn't. The whole thing looked to be on the verge of falling apart.

"Yeah, that looks kinda dangerous." Lucina frowns.

"You just sound like you're scared." You tease.

"What?" Lucina puts her hands on her hips, completely miffed. "I'm just being cautious here!"

"I'm pretty sure she remembered why she liked me." You say, unable to suppress as smile."

"I... see." HK nods as she follows you back to the house.

You smell Springfield's breakfast before you even see it. Eggs benedict. Seemed like she knew more than just pancakes. It looked like she had set them all out on the porch, where Carol was already wolfing them down by the mouthful.

"Hi Rufinaaaa!" Carol waves, her mouth still full of egg and biscuit.

"Hey, Carol. Still haven't learned to swallow I see." Lucina smiles.

"Oh!" Carol finally gulps down her food. "Sorry about that! I still forget sometimes!"

"Looks like you two sorted things out, huh?" Mom says simply.

"In a way." Lucina says coolly, still regarding Mom with caution. Guess she still didn't fully trust her.

HK and ST-AR head back inside to help Springfield clean up the kitchen, since neither of them really ate, leaving you with Mom, Carol, and Lucina.

"So, looks like you got a T-Doll around to bother you, too." Mom observes. "Gift from your mom?"

"She's a test unit being trialed by the RCPD." Lucina responds. "Part of an initiative to support officers in the field with a partner more able to respond to dangerous situations."

"You mean a more expendable partner." Mom rolls her eyes.

"ST-AR is a valued asset, and is irreplaceable in my opinion." Lucina grunts. "Lewis, you'd say the same for HK, wouldn't you?"

"Damn right." You nod. "HK's done a lot for me, and I'd like to think that it's more than just her being programmed to be that way."

"Yeah!" Carol butts into the conversation. "HK's like my cool little sister!"

"Hm, well, I guess you two have a point." Mom nods and pauses. "Oh, and speak of the devil."

The little breakfast gathering is interrupted by the roar of helicopter engines as one sets down in the field just outside the house. As the rotors wind down, two figures emerge. One is a tall, rather handsome yet rugged looking man. Mom's old war buddy Leo and Lucina's father. And of course, in a signature white lab coat, was Egan, Lucina's mother, and apparently the big mysterious force behind T-Dolls.

"So, somebody called for a checkup?" Egan asks casually. "Oh, Lucina, I didn't expect to see you here, too."

"Hello, mother." Lucina smiles. "How's work going?"

"Oh, the usual." Egan shrugs. "Poking this, prodding that. Seeing what happens after."

"Looks like you're doing well, Alice." Leo chuckles. "The arm giving you any trouble, lately?"

"Nah, it's been pretty good to me so far." Alice grins. "Still roaming the world?"

"Yeah." Leo sighs. "Pure invader DNA is just getting harder and harder to find these days. All the other megacorps are snapping up what few sources are left."

"Dear, that's why we're branching out into robotics." Egan chides. "How are ST-AR and HK doing, anyways?"

"She's been incredibly invaluable so far." Lucina replies.

"Same here." You say.

"Good, good." Egan then walks up to you with an injector gun. "I'll just inject some diagnosis nanites and see what's up."

Can't be all that bad, right?

WAIT, the nanites might not react well with the Activated invader powers, similar to how Lewis's biomods reacted to his awakening.

Ask HK how she feels about that

if she's not comfortable with the notion, just tell Egan she's performing perfectly, she doesn't need to bother with this.

oh wait you mean lewis. I thought you meant HK is getting diagnostic'd

nevermind then

"All right." You grunt as Egan presses the injector to your arm.

"All right... the preliminary diagnosis seems good. No genetic abnormalities outside of expected parameters."

"So... I'm good." You conclude.

"For now." Egan says simply. "The nanites will be active for another couple of weeks so i can monitor things in real time, but so far, you've got a clean bill of health."

"Well, good news, I guess." Mom shrugs. "Guess you'll live a little while longer, Lewis."

"Mom." You groan.

Well, with a clean bill of health, and a better handle on... whatever it was you were. Guess it was time to get back to work.

hmm
Lets avoid rolling 1s so we dont have to draw on magical boi powers...

Thanks for the thread Merc.

There's always that super biomod that we can get from last mission. We could probably assimilate that.
>>
This reminds me, Carol and Lewis should probably fortify their apartment or set up some escape plans just in case some scary guys decide to come knocking.

Best case scenario is that it's kept rather quiet. Worst case scenario is that the whole damn city is on the lookout for "Two highly dangerous rogue bioweapons", and they'll have to leave the city.

Well, Egan hasn't aged a day.
>>
April Fool's event.
Lewis woke up with a body of little girl. Carol decides to mess with Lewis that she was a little girl all along. Lucina was decieved very hard making Lucina hug Lewis harder than she used too forcing to call her Onee-san. Then forced to work with Carol that she is also a part time model which she poses embarrassing position. At the end where Mom decides to visit it was broken because Mom can't really hold secrets. Chaos ensues Lucina is shellshocked.

The end

Sounds like a fun time going from Hunter to Hunted.
>inb4 Hunters across the city are called in to hunt the 'bioweapons' down for billions of cash and lucrative contracts.
>Sam calls Lewis to tell him of the hunt of a lifetime while he's in the thick of it

>"Lewis, get your ass to HQ! We got a one in a million here!"
>*sounds of gunfire, and explosions*
>"Sorrybosscan'tmakeitbye!"

Could always have it be a reason to have a Lewis vs Lucina fight, and police being mislead by saying that they're shapeshifters who disguise themselves as people they know to create doubt and hesitation.
>>
>>3045094
Isn't that literally what the Invaders did? Which is kind of unfortunate because it's sort of the truth referring to our character and his little imuto/nee-san
>>
>>3045094
Or could go for the classic idea of Lewis knife fighting against her until her knife slashes open a gash on his helmet/mask, revealing his identity.

>>3045370
Well, that certainly is quite a bit of ammunition to use against the two of them. I'm not sure if Lucina would be able to make peace with the idea that her childhood friends were Invader hybrids.
>>
>>3045969
Lucine herself is a genetic abomination. I think she would cope well.
