+Intro+

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

Brethorius, wounded, but defiant, holds to his word given to you - he doesn't seek combat, but rather just stands there, like an indomitable rock. Quickly patched up power armour shows the fine craftsmanship of your Techmarines, only a keen eye could see the almost hidden scars of Brethorius' last battle.

Your captain is not worried. He doesn't seek battle. He knows, that battle seeks him. Beasts roar, Ghosts are retreating. Brethorius leans on Gatebreaker, his ancient Thunderhammer, and watches the approaching green tide like an old seaman, who gazing at the approaching storm.

Mercurion tries to get him to fall back to the Thunderhawk landing zone, in vain. First Captain feels the moment, every battle has it, when push comes to shove and fates shift either one way or the other.

>We stand here Mercurion. Form up the Veterans. Warn Kriegers. We need to win time for Trianon.

Meanwhile, an actual storm, of psychic flames and fury rages in the sky and on the ground, not too far, on the other side of peninsula, where psykers clash in a duel of inhuman proportions. They break reality itself and use its shards as their weapons. Three Librarians against a Waaaagh-empowered Weirdboy.

Tard Powa'ead doesn't shy away from combat, he is no further than a hundred yards (it's as good as wrestling by most psyker's standards), when he unleashes a hail of psychic spikes against Vortigen. Young Librarian deftly avoids most of them, though his counter blast also misses. Brother Terminator Daveron rumbles past him, blasting from his stormbolter at the Warboss, distracting him long enough for Laxenos to land a fine hit past Ork's weird aura, that emanates from him like radiation, protecting him and weakening his opponents.

Tard roars, psychic blast burns off left side of his skull, along with the ear, eye and part of the jaw. But the greenskin is tough and he slams his weird gun-staff-totem into the ground, launching a ray of pure green energy from his eyes towards Trianon, who was gathering energy in the background. Explosion hits the ground just underneath his feet, sending both the Librarian and and four other brothers, who were covering him, flying into the air. When they land, area around them is already being overrun by attack Ork nobz...

Charging Orks roll over the piles of bodies and strike Trianon's troop, still dazed and recovering from Tard's blast. Alius shoots a nob in close quarters, then another one, but the third one buries his axe in his neck. Alius still manages to shoot him as well, then stab another one, before being buried under the weight of bodies. Brother Sergeant Ation empties his bolt clip into the oncoming horde and shouts for his men to get Trianon up, Librarian is their only chance.

However Tarion is locked in mortal kombat with a massive Ork, who occupies him long enough for a pair for snotlings to climb from the back and plant a shaped charge on his back. Both Tarion and the Orks disappear in a bright explosion. Karazor helps Trianon up his in time for Librarian to cast a shockwave, pushing away a dozen or so charging Orks. But that is not enough, too little, too late. Trianon redirects his attention towards Ork warlock, while Ation and Karazor stand back to back and start chanting Litany of Hate while chopping Orks left and right, by the time they disappear behind the wall of oncoming greenskins, their singing can still be heard. Vortigan and Laxenos seem to be lost in action, maybe fighting off orks, maybe disoriented, but finally Trianon and Tard meet face to face. Their minds meet with the intensity of colliding moons.

Vortigan hates himself for allowing his mentor to fall into danger. That wasn't the plan. They were supposed to distract damn xeno-warlock, while their master would gather the energy required to take him down. It all went to drek in a moment. Finally he finds Laxenos and they cut through a group of Orks, following the direction of reverberating psyker duel.

When they reach the battle scene, they are greeted by the sight of Trianon's burning form, fallen on the ground, his shields almost collapsing upon him. With a shriek of anguish Laxenos lashes out against Tard, burning a whole straight through Ork's chest. But the beast is not easily beaten - he takes a step back and tries to explode Laxenos' heart with his will alone, stopping young Librarian in his tracks. But Vortigan finishes the job, he charges forward and barely avoiding Tard's deadly strike, decapitates him.

Orks around the site of the duel, seeing this, start dispersing and retreating, some try to taunt you defiantly while running away, but that sounds more like whimpering. As tension slowly decreases, Daveron runs up to the young Librarians, his Terminator armour is dented and soiled with dirt and ash.
>Captain's orders - general retreat.
Laxenos, who was checking Trianon, looks up with worry in his eyes.
>Trianon is half dead, he is already catatonic, I think his Sus-an Membrane is kicking in. I would prefer us to hold it here until Apothecary can move him.
Daveron shakes his head.
>First Company broke their back, you took care of the Warboss. They are concentrated, but scared, beaten. We took a beating, but we will not get a better chance to wipe them out. Mercurion was clear about it, I am getting you out one way or another.
>Mercurion?
Some invisible weight descends on Daveron's shoulders.

Thunderhawks are ascending into the sky, like His Angels, carrying into heaven the souls of the warriors who gave their lives up today on the battlefield below. At the same time, fiery death is descending past them like vengeance incarnate. Those who perished today are going to rest well in the Halls of the Emperor, for they sold their lives dearly today.

According to final assessments it seems that Tard was seduced by the chance to become the ultimate Warboss on the planet by killing you and he gathered together the best Orks this side of the planet could muster. During the planning phase you hope to attract up to a million Orks. You were wrong.

+++FINAL ESTIMATE+++
Imperial losses:
11 236 Guardsmen
116 Officers
1 Colonel
34 Battle Brothers
1 Librarian
1 Captain

Xeno losses[battle]:
~128 500 Orks
~8200 Ork Nobz
~1230 various Ork vehicles
~180 Killa Kans
3 Gargant class constructs
1 Warboss

Xeno losses[bombardment]:
~4.3 million (main concentration)
~1.4 million (secondary concentrations)
~40 000 vehicles
~21 Gargant class constructs

Chapter Master doesn't need an analyst to know what this bloody victory means. Ork resistance in the southern subcontinent is broken. Triot Continuation Council is already mounting an offensive from their mountain range to seize the initiative. There is still a sizable organised force of orks in the north, holding the line, possibly as much as 2-3 million, but they won't be able to fight on two fronts against the Guard from the north and TCC from the south. Especially, if Orks will start fighting amongst themselves after Tard is gone and there's no Warboss in the whole continent.

Once he is in death shrouded,
When hope and faith grow clouded,
At His divine side he shall stand,
Become part of the immortal band.

Brethorious, second without equal
Always hearty and never feeble.
We'll meet again at the end of days,
With the realm desperate and ablaze.

In the Golden Legion reunited,
Only the bravest thus knighted,
Will we fight again side by side,
Slaying, battling, stemming the tide.

No one will ever replace you,
nobody will ever be as true.

>After Brethorius was overrun, Mercurion went through fire and hell to get his body out of there. Everyone was sure that he was dead. But against all odds, he was alive, barely, clinging onto this side of the coin by his bare fingernails. That didn't last for long. His vitals gave out on the way to the Thunderhawk. Too many injuries, combined with his previous condition, but we still had some hope. Apothecary on the scene started reviving him, but at the same time Librarians came back, carrying Trianon, who was also mortally wounded in his duel with Tard. Apothecary chose to...

a) Dedicate attention to both equally
b) Focus on Brethorius
c) Focus on Trianon

By the time they got to Aspera, I had to operate on them as quickly as possible. I decided that...

a) Brethorius was a priority (apply Lifesaver trait)
b) Trianon was a priority (apply Lifesaver trait)
c) I will oversee both operations, while they are performed by other Apothecaries

Another choice - Vortigan as Biomancer can to certain extent mitigate effects of the wounds. Does he:

a) Prioritise Brethorius
b) Prioritise Trianon
c) Tries to divide his attention
>>
>>3028726
I vote:
>b) Focus on Brethorius
Vortigan should have been using his Regeneration Biomancy power nonstop the moment he reached Trianon's side, with Laxenos supporting him. Another apothceary like Neiton or Avicenor should also be on the field.

>a) Brethorius was a priority (apply Lifesaver trait)
Trianon should be under constant Regeneration from Vortigan while Apothecary Avicenor keeps him stable.
We should have stasis pods ready as well in case either take a downturn.

Let's roll.

=Current situation on Triot=
Orks are massively demoralised and their command structure on the western continent is effectively gone. On the eastern continent Warboss Rocksmasha still rules, but he is isolated and that continent contains only about 1/4 of the Triot Ork population. This still amounts to around 4 - 7 million fighta boyz, but they don't have any fleet or sufficient amounts of aircraft to rapidly redeploy to the western continent.

+Casualties+
Meanwhile Klementhos comes back to you with good news:
>By a miracle we managed to save both of them, milord. Both Trianon and Brethorius will make it through this, however I've got some bad news regarding Brethorius. The damage which he suffered was extensive, even by our standards. I have managed to put him back together... Mostly. Brethorius was engaged in close combat with numerous opponents and as it is customary for Orks, when their weapons failed, they put their claws and teeth to work. Brethorius' helmet was damaged, he had to take it off to continue fighting. A particularly mean ork nob literally bit off most of his face. I managed to partially reconstruct his face, but he will never look the same. He lost his right ear, eye, his cheekbone was crushed in and in addition to that he lost his right arm almost up to the shoulder to a Killa-Kan. Terminator Armour protected the rest of him (and the arm part of the armour was safely recovered later), but his arm is gone. I am afraid the nature of injury, especially the cheekbone that now almost touches his brain, is too much for me to fix, I am not specialised in plastic surgery, though I assume someone out there is. On the other hand, such scars will be an honour to bear.

+Brethorius+
Gains: Deformed (-30 Charisma, +30 Intimidate)
Gains: One-handed
>>
>>3044579
We'll want to consolidate our advantage on the western continent. The Imperial forces need to join up with the TCC forces and secure the coastlines ASAP.

As for Brethorius, we should get him a new bionic arm and given the damage to his face we could give him a bionic faceplate and eye on the right hand side.

Also, what about Ghosts of Retribution? What will be their continued involvement?
a) Maintain same stance as before - limited engagements at centers of gravity
b) Decrease GoR presence, our work is done here, time to conserve forces, get involved only where it is really needed
c) Increase frequency of strikes - Orks are on the run and our involvement will definitely make sure that no new Warboss appears out of the confusion on the continent
d) All out purge, send in everyone, this will surely make our name heard among other Chapters! Let's liberate the planet before the feast of Emperor's Ascension! (4 months, this would indeed be a major boost both in prestige and Favour)

Despite some heavy fighting on the ground, Imperial Navy support, continued airstrikes and assaults by the Ghosts of Retribution combined together manage to break the last Ork spirit. Some especially heavy fighting takes place near the eastern coasts, as some of Rocksmasha's orks try to land and rally their brethren, but a timely deployment of Fortress of Vengeance saves the day. However at one point Actium, commander of the Fortress, gets into a sticky situation - he is surrounded by one of the minor klanz, Buzzkillaz, who are renowned for their Tank Busta squads. Actium decides to:
>Concentrate on speed, keep moving no matter what! (roll 5d20 vs 100 for defence, roll 1d100 for attack)
>Take up a good position and coordinate a massive attack, with the help of artillery! (roll 8d20 vs 130 for defence, roll 2d100 for attack and pick best)
>Retreat, there's no need to take risks even with the Fortress of Vengeance (roll 3d20 vs 80 defence, no roll for attack, morale falls)

Triot Continuation Council's forces continue pushing the orks and by the D+102 most of the continent is liberated. Lucas Xerant invites you onto his flagship, together with the rest of the war council.
>Welcome, everyone. As you are all well aware, Emperor has blessed us with series of magnificent victories, I am very proud of all of your achievements. Everyone did their duty as expected, but I would like to especially thank Ghosts of Retribution. While I would never want to play down the role of the Imperial infantryman, it is a common knowledge, that the reason Orks are on the run is because Astartes are with us. But we are gathered here today to decide how do we want to end the war. Warboss Rocksmasha is still hiding somewhere on the eastern continent, Kalbirum, with a sizeable Ork host under his command. In essence we have four options:
>>
File: glory.jpg (37 KB, 542x600)
37 KB
37 KB JPG
=1=
>First of all we can launch an assault on Kalbirum. This will not be easy, as Orks will be expecting us and there will be a price to pay. However this would allow us to reclaim the whole planet for the Imperium.
=2=
>The second option is to leave Orks on Kalbirum to their own devices for a while and concentrate on consolidating our forces here. Full purging of Triot will take decades anyway, so my engineer-generals are suggesting that we could use that time to deploy some of the super-heavy artillery pieces and rain death down on the orks for a couple of ears, then mount the assault.
=3=
>The third option classified, it is known as plan "Hammerhand". Essentially this would allow Navy to deploy capital weaponry and inflict what amounts to partial Exterminatus, think about it as cauterising a wound on the planet with a red hot blade. This would leave this world permanently crippled, but no more lives would be lost.
=4=
>Final option was suggested through the channels by the Lord-Governor Gration himself. We could donate Kalbirum to the Chapter of the Ghosts of Retribution. They have experience fighting against orks both here and on Varda, however infestation there is practically extinct. If Kalbirum would be donated to the Chapter, it would be Astartes responsibility to keep Orks contained, but also would give them rights to whatever loot, spoils and land taken from the Orks.

[61 fails to penetrate 80/100/130]
[26;29]
Decision to flank greenskin forces with Predators, while Actium on Fortress of Vengeance was drawing fire to himself, turned out to be a wise one. Buzzkillaz never even realised what hit them, when 6th Company, supported by Predators hit them from the hills, they had nowhere to run. Even their Tank Busta squads couldn't really damage your Retribution-pattern Baneblade, most of their attacks either only doing superficial damage or ricocheting harmlessly away. In that battle your forces broke the last force that had any chance of challenging Imperial forces on the western continent. Captain Macedon especially commends Actium and his command of the armoured force.
>He was instrumental, sire. It seems that your decision to keep an armoured spearhead force proved to have been farsighted in the end, in the open plains of Triot they really shown their potential.

+++Post-Battle Clean Up+++
Despite orks being disorganised, heavy resistance on the ground continued for some months.
=Casualties=
Imperial Guard: 112 139
Vehicles: 1629
Aircraft: 728
Astartes: 4 brothers[Remus, Arortion, Remercius, Larkon], 6 scouts[Hidar, Belkon, Milikar, Azerius, Velmacht, Miriamon], 13 Tarantula turrets, 1 Predator Annihilators (knocked out, repairable with roll + Wealth), 1 Predator Destructor (mobility kill, will be back in action within a few months, no need to roll)

+Imperial Soulword+
Nerial approaches you:
>My lord, it is from Capitolis Sectorum. Your presence is requested at the Triumph for the Liberation of Triot. Lucas Xerant might be a bit too eager to celebrate victory here, he's as much a politician as he is a general, but if you will refuse or inform Lord-Governor that victory is incomplete, it could seriously hurt his reputation. What shall we do?

>>3044777
Depends on what kind of commitment and intensity you want to have. Rocksmasha and his orks will be much more of a threat than Vardan Orks, but on the other hand it was mentioned in the Imperial briefings that Kalbirum is rich in natural gas reserves, so once cleansed could prove to be a wise financial investment. On the other hand, orks there are cunning and organised, they will not go down easy.

We don't want to hurt people's reputations. Let's head to the victory party. I vote we leave Captain Macedon in charge here.

Meanwhile we should restore Brethorius with bionics.

Rolling for Predator Annihilator repair (I assume against Seran's tech-use).

>Depends on what kind of commitment and intensity you want to have. I really think it's too much of a quagmire to get involved in now. However I definitely think we should look at financial investments into Triot in the coming years. We can have a stake in industrial interests.
>>
>>3044863
>On the other hand, orks there are cunning and organised, they will not go down easy.
If we apply our whole force and get some guard regiments together can we do significant damage before the triarchy war starts?
If so we can use the Triumph to gain favour with Xerant and inform him there that we can take care of the rest... if he lends us some men.

Seran is not worried at all. He slaps it's burnt chassis and laughs:
>We'll have it rolling over the Orks again in no time!
[This will require 3W to fix, Predator will be back in action in 1 year, no need to note down]

In the absence of clear decision on behalf of the Ghosts of Retribution, Kalbirum was designated as containment zone for Orks and ignored for the time being.

+Triumph+
It is a joyous occasion to march on the plazas of the Capitolis Sectorum, or at least it surely is for citizens and nobles who come out for a celebration. Your own men are satisfied with the victory, but the triumph itself they for the most part view as formality - they already know that they have won and that's what matters.

How do you want to present your Chapter to Imperial public?

Order:
a) Insist on leading the parade [currently that would be Lucas Xerant and his personal regiment]
b) Take up the last spot
c) Don't worry about the order
d) Refuse to take part in the parade, rather march separately after everyone else

Presentation:
a) Send symbolic representation, a few squads with their banners should be enough, we are here not for glory
b) Send everyone who participated in the Liberation of Triot, they deserve to be honoured
c) Send out orders to summon the whole Chapter, apart from skeleton crews required to guard Tombstone and other ships/assets - we stand one as a Chapter
d) Let's really show them the might of Ghosts of Retribution - deploy Fortress of Vengeance, Thunderhawks and Chapter Master himself with be deep-striked into the square for the final ceremony!

[Parade will take place next year due to warp travel and logistics of moving so many IG regiments back to Tachion Primaris, so you will have time to summon the rest of the Chapter if you want to]
>>
>>3044924
>b) Take up the last spot
>c) Send out orders to summon the whole Chapter, apart from skeleton crews required to guard Tombstone and other ships/assets - we stand one as a Chapter
Let's have fun.
I'd do this
>d) Let's really show them the might of Ghosts of Retribution - deploy Fortress of Vengeance, Thunderhawks and Chapter Master himself with be deep-striked into the square for the final ceremony!
I'd do this, but something tells me we'll fuck shit up somehow if we try.
Does anybody think otherwise?
We should probably start gathering our troops from different corners to get ready anyway.
>>
>>3044924
I vote
>b) Take up the last spot
and
>a) Send symbolic representation, a few squads with their banners should be enough, we are here not for glory

We should be seen as quiet guardians and we shouldn't reveal our full strengths. Better to keep it a mystery.
>>
>>3044930
I'm wary of revealing the chapter's full strength at any public venue. Styrians or others could be spying.
>>
>>3044933
>we shouldn't reveal our full strengths.
Good point, but it's not like it's a secret that a full chapter has about 1k marines.
>>
>>3044937
We're a young, building chapter and there's still vehicles, ships, equipment. And we're not actually at 10 companies.

Last time we faced the styrians we were at like 5 companies and pitiful vehicle assets.
>>
>>3044938
shhhh, they won't know how much we're missing
>>
>>3044924

>c) Don't worry about the order

but look carefully what spot he gives us.
>>
>>3044924
I'll amend my decision to
>c) Don't worry about the order
and
>a) Send symbolic representation, a few squads with their banners should be enough, we are here not for glory
See what the parade organisers think of us.

Also rebuild Brethorius! Bionic arm, and a bionic eye and cheekplate to fix his looks.
Also tell him to stop disobeying our orders dammit. He's important to us and the Chapter.

And assign Averon Birg to look into investments into the coming Triot reconstruction. Lady Ariana Belinde would be a good merchant to invest in, along with VaskCorp from Doria IV who are sure to set up industry on Triot.
>>
>>3044979
>Also rebuild Brethorius! Bionic arm, and a bionic eye and cheekplate to fix his looks.
Do we want to regrow natural arms and legs for him in the meanwhile? A mechanical eye can be pretty useful but I'd imagine most people prefer to feel their arms and legs.
>>
>>3044988
We have a good apothecarion so there's no reason we can't. He's only missing one arm.
It can be Brethorius' choice. Stick with bionic or get a flesh limb cloned.
>>

i am strongly against adding another planet or continent to our realm. we dont have the ships or manpower to make good on our promise for protection.

what is the situation of the other orks, are they divided or more or less united? how much infighting is there at the momemt or are they rallying for a counterattack?

Rocksmasha's ork activity seems to have died down, they have disbanded their bigger settlements (those that haven't yet suffered from orbital or air strikes) and went into the mountains and jungles of Kalbirum. It doesn't seem as if they are preparing for a counterattack, as they don't even have any realistic means of reaching the other continent. On the other hand it seems that they are determined to survive.

You decide to allow Lucas to arrange things as he sees it fit. You soon receive notification, that you got the 3rd place on the parade, after Xerant's personal regiment representation and Imperial Navy's captains. You are not sure why the order was exactly this way, but you are guessing that Xerant wants to keep up good ties with the Navy. You got a 3 place out of 186. Who were potential stars of the parade that ended up behind you? Representation from Triot Continuation Council, Stormtroopers and even the General Staff, which is mostly made up of nobles.

+Liberation of Triot Triumph+
The parade was organised in a glorious and fittingly grand fashion. Cherubim were flying over your heads, throwing petals beneath your armoured feet, while millions of Imperial citizens were cheering from multiple levels of hive, excited both about your victory and today's tripled rations of luxury items, such as chocolate, booze and lho sticks.

Trumpets are blaring, Imperial Guard sergeants shout out commands on the march, presenting their arms to the onlooking nobility with Gration himself on the highest throne. You walk in simple Veteran's honours, following Brethorius, who leads Ghosts in his capacity as the First Captain. When he raises Gatebreaker in salutation to Gration, you notice a warm smile on Sector-Generals lips. He does have a soft spot for your Chapter. For the first time in a long while, Ghosts have friends in high places.

=]LIBERATION[=
+1 Fate Point
+1 Favour
+250 Wealth
+Reputation(Nobility)
+Reputation(Imperial Guard)
+Reputation(Triot)

Gration is pleased and rewards you with additional resources to wage your eternal battle. Reputation(Nobility) is improved to Neutral as Lucas Xerant takes a liking to you and this affects the views of Nobility, where he has a lot of sway. Same thing happens with Imperial Guard, who are now Neutral towards you. Finally you are approached by representatives of TCC - they express you their eternal gratitude for helping to set their planet free from the yoke of the Orks. And last, but not least, Terra's High Lords receive a short note on the third page of their daily briefing that Ghosts of Retribution have liberated a planet. While it is a small act in the grand scale of things, they are pleased nonetheless.

==Final losses tally==
- 19 Sternguard Veterans
- 14 Marines of 6th company
- 8 Marines of 8th company
- 7 Scouts

==Marine Questions==
- Were any of the 6th and 8th company losses assault or devastator marines?
- How many marines qualified for veterancy?
- Did we earn any Chapter XP?
- Did the Librarians earn any advances?

=====Triot Actions=====
I strongly think we should keep pressing the advantage on Triot until we can be sure the orks won't reunify for a counterattack.
We should secure the key coastal areas of the western continent. Specifically we should make sure to secure the archipelago in the south that spans the two continents. Use the many Rhinos on Aspera Dominus to keep mobility between these islands.

While the Imperial Guard undergo their sustained bombardments our force should raid ork hideouts and drive them into the open.
For tactics I'd suggest we strike fast with thunderhawks, deploying assault marines and land speeders from the air, who can deploy teleport homers inside the ork position. We can then teleport our terminators into the ork's midst and really gun them down.
Meanwhile the Fortress of Vengeance and our Predators will have positioned themselves around the ork position ready to gun down any that flee and aren't caught by artillery & thunderhawk strikes.

We should also have Averon Birg investigate any potential investment opportunities they might now be on Triot. I'd recommend looking into the Merchant Ariana Belinde and VaskCorp from Doria, but we'll see what Birg has to present to us before making any decisions.

=====Other actions====

1. I'm sure Elegion has a lot to tell us now

2. The new Gladius Frigate. We could name it Orkbane to commemorate our victory here but other ideas are welcome.

3. Assign new Tartarus/Cryptus Spy Network to look into Tesalia D'anger and Daikan Alepros, see what they know and what they intend to do.

4. The missing 'Minotaur', Brother Astelion. Has there been any sightings of him on Mormark over the last few years? Any chance he's escaped the planet?

5. Now we have a Spy Network set up in the Ecclesiarchy (45%) we should keep it on low-intensity observation. Gauging the inter-faction politics and seeing how things sway. Same thing for our Nobility (60%) Network. Especially keep an ear open for intel regarding the Ursuses and dissent against the Belisarians (Belisariuses?) or the GoR.

6. Investigate any reports or accounts from the region of space near where operation stormchaser went missing. Any nearby naval patrols etc. See if they encountered anything that might be responsible.

7. Alexander Kerr has send us a message (see expected events, we'll need MachineSpirit to address this).

8. We have quite a lot of HLoT favour now. What's the ship:favour exchange rate? For escorts and strike cruisers.

Verica Barbaross arrives at her appointment with Lord Governor Kvei Lohar precisely at noon.

Her attire appears to be tastefully decorated leather, though Lohar's security scans have revealed that well crafted carapace plates and advanced mesh armor lurk beneath the facade. A practically ornate power sword and and well-worn hellpistol rest upon her hip among deceptively simple leather straps. At the doorman's insistence, the hellpistol's charge pack has been removed.

Finally, a chameleoline cloak is draped across the raven-haired woman's shoulders and back, held in place by a well-kept brooch of her family's coat of arms.

"Lord Lohar." Verica Barbaross bows her head slightly toward the governor. "I trust that Chapter Master [Redacted] is serious about the offer he has made?"

Two massive Heavy Transports limp into orbit of Mormark and the embrace of the Iron Phoenix's docking arms, a battered Partisan-class Raider their sole escort. Their hulls are hastily patched, mismatched scabs of thinner adamantium and plasteel positioned to seal the vessel's atmosphere inside rather than protect from further damage.

Further out in the Mormark system, an Imperial light cruiser and a squadron of raiders also make their way toward the Iron Phoenix, escorting a smaller transport vessel.

The lead Heavy Transport is familiar to keen eyes, 'Spectre of Mormark' has returned after being traded to a young Rogue Trader many years ago. "This is Alexander Kerr. I request that your Chapter Master join me upon Spectre of Mormark. I have urgent matters to discuss."

"Lord Kerr, it seems you've been through hell and back."

Basically.
>>
Chapter Master and his Shadow Guard are met by one of Kerr's aides as they board Spectre. "Lord Astartes, if you would please follow. Lord Kerr wishes to speak with you immediately."
The Astartes make their way through the damaged vessel as exhausted crew clear the path ahead. Cooridors are still stained with blood and signs of battle, causing Hantyr and Koden to stealthily check that their weapons are prepared to defend the Chapter Master, if necessary. As the group approaches a larger, mildly decorative door, the aide makes to speak, then hesitates. After a moment, he simply opens the door to the sitting room and motions for the Astartes to enter.

A haggard Alexander Kerr looks upon the Astartes as they enter. His jacket's right arm is folded at the elbow and pinned flat, leaving the sign of the aquila made with his left hand a bit lacking. "Ave Imperator, Chapter Master. I must apologize, but I can not greet you properly with the aquila," a forced smirk crosses his lips as he attempts to rise but falters toward his left, "nor can I quite rise to greet you." The folded and pinned left pants leg of the Rogue Trader is visible for a moment as he awkwardly attempts to readjust his position upon his chair. At your words, his lips twitch in a grimace. "I fear so. But please, sit. I had most of my vessels equipped with chairs more suited to your visits for this day. Plasteel will do, I hope?"

Captain Jessica Morix, still as terribly marred by fate as when Chapter Master last saw her, stands behind the maimed Kerr, her eyes cast down toward the deck plating. Upon the flank of the table sit two rather large, long stasis crates.
"Before we begin, Chapter Master. A toast to your recent victory upon Triot." Kerr's aid quickly approaches the table, setting glasses for Kerr and Morix and robust plasteel goblets for the Astartes.

Hesitantly, the aid matches his Lord's glare before adding an ash-like dust to Kerr's own goblet.

Your toast and comments about Brethorious briefly ignite some spark of the Kerr that once landed upon the steps of St. Evangelion's Cathedral in an ancient Arvus Lander as the spoils of his first venture into the Corgus Sector were paraded before Tachion Primaris. "I should hope such wounds as your Astartes survive would slay me, Chapter Master. I do not believe I could properly wear a dreadnought as high fashion around court as Horim could. Kerr scowls at his glass after downing his drink, finger tapping softly as he seems to debate something within his own mind. For a fleeting moment Chapter Master senses some foul darkness, but the sensation quickly passes. "Captain Morix has something to present to you, Chapter Master. And then she shall present two gifts on behalf of the xenos that calls itself 'The Singer'." Captain Morix hesitates for a moment as Kerr signals his aid for another round of drink and the same substance in his own glass.

"L-Lord Astartes." Morix carefully reaches behind Kerr's chair, her movements watched by the Shadow Guard as they ever so slightly shift their stance. "The head of Gallagher Wilson, pirate. And of his cohort, Pi Midori." Slowly, the woman raises a transparent stasis crate with the heads of both pirates, Wilson's over Midori. "As proof of my loyalties to the Imperium."

Look at the heads. "I hope it wasn't too quick for them?"
>>
>>3058513

"It wasn't long enough for either of them."

Morix proceeds to unseal the two larger stasis crates, revealing first the curiously familiar yet rarely seen sight of the Chapter's Revenant armor, sporting a massive hole punched clean through by some sort of plasma weapon, and then an Astartes corpse with a matching wound.

"Wilson kept them in stasis as trophies, along with a number of far less impressive things." Morix carefully retreats behind Kerr despite the friendly overtures from Chapter Master, drawing the Astartes' vision toward the hunched, brooding Rogue Trader as he leans over the table and rests his weight upon his elbow.

"Chapter Master, before our other guests arrive and make this taboo subject impossible to discuss I must ask for your council." Few sane men dare to match the eyes of an Astartes and scowl at them, and for a moment Chapter Master is forced to consider if one can still refer to Alexander Kerr as sane. "I ask plainly and expect an answer in kind. A xenos witch cursed me with a prophecy of the future, and then cursed me plainly after I told her to cease speaking in riddles. What weight do you place upon the words of an Aeldari witch?"

final reply:
"They are as honest as necessary to serve their own goals. How much of what you've heard is true and more importantly how much she omitted depends entirely on the content of the prophecy and its significance to them. Is it a 'curse' you're willing to share the details of?"

==Final losses tally==
- 19 Sternguard Veterans
- 14 Marines of 6th company
- 8 Marines of 8th company
- 7 Scouts

==Marine Questions==
- Were any of the 6th and 8th company losses assault or devastator marines?
>Luckily only 4 assault marines were lost and so were 2 devastators.
- How many marines qualified for veterancy?
>20+d10 new veterans join the ranks
- Did we earn any Chapter XP? Did the Librarians earn any advances?
>Both of these questions will be resolved once I will be back.

=====Other actions====

3. Assign new Tartarus/Cryptus Spy Network to look into Tesalia D'anger and Daikan Alepros, see what they know and what they intend to do.
>Some new things might appear here. Will require some rolls and a chat.

4. The missing 'Minotaur', Brother Astelion. Has there been any sightings of him on Mormark over the last few years? Any chance he's escaped the planet?
>He was a Space Marine, after all, and an old one at that. You realise that whether he left the planet or decided to stay on it, relying on passive security systems to capture him will most likely be fruitless, unless he makes a mistake. You need a bounty hunter/investigator or maybe even a team of them to find him.

>Noted. Currently spy networks report mild discontent about the state of affairs in some Sector of the Ecclesiarchy and Nobility, but overall your decision to install Belisarians was prudent and turned everyone’s attention away from the Chapter for the most part. Interesting news:
>Iron Monks have recently invested a sizeable part of their liquid assets into acquiring three massive crusading ships. Not much is known about this without further investigation, but they won’t enter service earlier than in a few years, maybe later.
>There are some rumours that some nobles are flirting with Styrian faith, Inquisition is on the case and has prosecuted 3 nobles holding the title of count or above in the past 6 months.
>Some agents report a growing appreciation among nobility for Lucas Xerant, while some resent and envy him, everyone agrees that he is among half a dozen most powerful people in the Sector.
>A schismatic preacher appears among Eaglebearers, there is a chance of intra-factional struggle erupting.

>Will sort out later.
====Vardan Purchase Proposals====

Breeding incentive programs would be things like large tax breaks and/or low-interest home loans for traditional families.
Discourage working mothers and working childless couples and anti-family careerists etc.

Came up with a more fleshed out response:

>"What weight do you place upon the words of an Aeldari witch?"

"One must be very careful when considering the machinations of the Aeldari, which are themselves no more than machinations of the warp itself. While none can truly know the future for sure they can often have a very good idea.

I'd say what's likely is that rather than actively curse you the xenos has instead sensed a significant possibility for great misfortune in your future. Instead of being cursed you may have been blessed with a warning. While your path may be treacherous even the prophecies of the eldar are not set in stone, and now that you know, you can take heed, and take caution.

I would suggest meditating on the witch's words. Though they may seem to speak in cryptic riddles it is often the case that only when you actually encounter what they speak of their words become clear. Therefore it would be wise to know the witch's words by heart so that when and if the time comes, you recognise what she spoke of when you see it."

Kerr's eyes never break from Chapter Master's, though the man's scowl slowly turns to a look of resignation.

"You will return to this place in despair, Alexander. And you shall know how the threads of your fate have been woven into the fabric of this new realm, leaving only your doom in place of the anchors of the past. Beyond doubt of even your dim mon'keigh understanding, you shall know the price of obtaining what you most desire." Kerr shifts back into his seat, leaving his left hand upon the table and watching as he touches his thumb to each finger in turn. "I know every syllable of the witch's words by heart, Chapter Master, and I fear that I knew them long before I encountered that damned xenos."

Morix clears her throat after a few moments of silence. "Alexander, your other guests have landed and are on their way."

Kerr nods, still staring at his hand. "I believe that I shall share the first half of the prophecy once all parties have gathered. Fate is to be sung but once, or so I am told." Chapter Master's enhanced senses detect a change in Kerr's tone and a minuscule hesitation that grows between each passing word. "I trust that you expected at least one of my other g-"

The door behind Chapter Master is thrown open and a small group of men and women in Imperial Navy uniforms hurry after a rather furious looking Sororitas. "How dare you send some woman to fetch me to you in secret, Alexander!"

Eranor seems to foresee the Kerr's impending reaction, but is too distant to prevent it.

With a start and his hand firmly gripping the edge of the table, Kerr rises to his feet like a cadet called to attention by a drill abbott. "Amelia."

Except that his reflexes have not quite adapted to only having a single leg to carry his weight. Within one of Chapter Master's heart beats, the Rogue Trader has begun to fall to his left, his attempt to stabilize himself with his one arm only serving to add a slight spin to his inevitable, un-arrested fall upon the deck. A string of rather vulgar curses, one unkind example aimed specifically toward Astrobelus Kest's mother, follow.

Canoness Preceptor Amelia Engel stops dead in her tracks, her fury subsiding to an expressionless stare at Kerr. Behind her, a female officer motions to her peers to depart the room as Morix approaches the struggling Rogue Trader.

"Stay where you are. I can raise myself." Anger fills Kerr's voice as he points an accusatory finger toward Morix. Engel slowly approaches Kerr from behind as he continues to struggle and angrily tell the footsteps approaching from behind him that he does not require their aid. Kneeling, she wraps her arm under his.

Chapter Master's enhanced hearing captures Engel's whispered words. "It is not weakness to accept aid, Alexander. Do you recall what you said to me before that gaudy parade upon Tachion Primaris?" Kerr simply nods, and a few moments later is helped up and over to his seat by Engel.

The young aid brings fourth three more chairs, seating the naval officer at what is technically the head of the table, while Engel relocates her seat beside Kerr before acknowledging Chapter Master with her usual glare, though most of the seething hatred has faded. Morix sits to Kerr's right after he briefly apologizes for his earlier tone.

"Chapter Master, I believe the only introduction I must make is between yourself and the Lady Corinna Beriaun." Kerr gestures toward the naval officer politely.

"Chapter Master," Beriaun bows her head respectfully. "I've encountered your chapter before over Barivia. Morbid and the Astartes aboard her were invaluable to the defense of that world."

Kerr waits while pleasantries are exchanged, his expression slowly twisting into a scowl until Engel glances at him and the Rogue Trader corrects himself.

"I've asked you all to join me to discuss several matters related to my second expedition into Corgus: The scattering of Ghallager Wilson's wolfpack, the discovery of an unrecorded xenos species, council on the fate of recovered relics, and an attack upon my fleet by Imperial traitors led by vessels of the Styrian Triarchy."

Engel and Beriaun both raise an eyebrow at the last comment before carefully studying the others present.

"But first, I fear that my actions, and the council that I seek from you all, must never be repeated outside of this chamber. I seek council and opinion upon the best course of action I may take for the Emperor's Imperium, not for council to navigate a governor's ball or Inquisitorial interrogation. And I must take into account the words of a prophecy that I fear involves several of us present."

Engel looks at Kerr in horror and disbelief at the last statement. "You were never one to believe in prophecy, Alexander."

"I fear that I have had a change of heart." Kerr's hand moves from the table toward the stump of his left leg, distracting both himself and Engel for a moment before he continues. "The Ghost-Speaker returns bearing the last of gifts without sacrifice. A spectral raven seeking a bauble lost in darkness, which will be swallowed? Raven or Darkness. Yet another link to forge or shatter the binding ties of the future you seek amongst the Tempest. Together placed, but the chosen lever grows weaker as you apply force. Share with both the Ghost and the Unforgivable while still able. Walk this path for the benefit of all, Tempest both foe and guardian."

"Where did you obtain this so-called prophecy, Alexander?" Engel's rigid posture has shifted slightly, as if some part of Kerr's words made some amount of sense to her.

"I sincerely fear that the Emperor sent it as a dire warning to me."

Engel's extreme unhappiness is plainly visible.

Greet the two newcomers. "It's good to see you again Sister Engel. Lady Beriaun, Captain Dreidor and Captain London speak highly of your conduct as well."

(and Unforgivable is a pretty foreboding name but I suppose it would be rude to ask Beriaun about her past)

"I believe we would all like to begin with the Styrians Lord Kerr. You may not have acclimated to the current political climate yet but they were involved with the....outgoing administration."
