Long has it been since the fall of mankind, with scant remnants forced to scavenge upon the verdant surface or cower within pitiful holes of machinery, save for one woman, chemically-enhanced, rebel of the cloistered Arcology, freedom-lover, warrior-woman, the one called Shasta!

From the clutch of enslaved women emanate snores and groans, for wearied by their toil and bondage their night is fitful as that of the warrior-woman Shasta! As she lies upon the ground amid the others, yoked in heavy irons until she holds certain that the girl Rin will not be harmed for her escape, drift back in time she does, to that day when first she rebelled, and the strange events which followed the upturning of what little life she had known.

As Reproductive Unit RU-34, the only name she had ever been given, she was led unwilling to the engineered state of motherhood, yet before her jailers could finish their task, the seed of rebellion was instead planted in her mind!

And rebel she did, for the girl found that as her blood rose so too did her strength, her speed, until none could hope to stand against her!
>>
Escaped but not free, her exuberance she found short-lived, vanishing as quickly as it came, and to the safety of Sixteen and the arms of Nine did she flee, for assuredness was upon her fully that no lead could draw her to such a role as that which she had been born into!

Yet never did those who sought to control her cease their effort to retrieve her alive and intact, and had it not been for the Nine's cleverness she knew with certainty that all of them would have been caught.
>>
How well Shasta recalls awaking in the darkness of the abandoned tunnel, the end of the path which began when up did Nine pry a panel from beneath Sixteen's cot, and the terror which stretched out before she heard at last the faint and steady beat 'neath Nine's broad chest and the sight of Sixteen's shadowed form, still and silent after the effect of the numbing gas.

On their heels dogged those same guards, harangued mightily and tasked with her retrieval, a fact for which the one sought to right with her baton and the girl's hide as balance!

Again did that strange power wash over her, driving her to heights of prowess undreamt of, yet even as the guard was flung through the air for the second time did it leave her utterly awash in weakness!

Her own heavily-armored form pinned between exposed beams and the dead weight of her limp cohort, the guard struggled to throw off the other and right herself, and Shasta remembers...

Fingers clutch upon synthetic tunic as terrified in the face of returning to her former life, the girl pleads with the man Nine to intervene!

"Oh, Nine, don't let her take me back!"

"It's all right, Thirty-Four," Nine soothes in his baritone voice. "I am Exploration Unit Eee-You Oh-Nine. Whatever may have happened before this point, I'm sure the Council will be pleased to see us all safely brought before them so this misunderstanding can be rectified."

Everyone is trying to use her, she will not let it happen! Now, at least we spared dear Rin more suffeering, but we still have to get her out of here

Delicate bare feet skid across the floor, soft soles not used to the exertion of hard running, but no pain is felt, only an incredible feeling of lightness, as ears pounding with blood the girl races through the maintenance corridors, seeking blindly some means of escape from this cloistered world! Yet as she loops back upon the same path which she trod only moments ago, the incomparable feeling which fires inside her breast begins to wante, replaced by the cold fear that she may not find her way free before her jailers close their pursuit!

And then she spies a side passage, and finds a most unexpected leaving! Upon the floor a guard lies sprawled, and beyond reach of the prone and still figure a baton!

That's it for tonight - I will be home later than usual tomorrow so the next part might not be until Wednesday.

I love how these stories write themselves based on whatever the first thing to come to mind after seeing a die roll is.
>>
Turns out I got home earlier than I thought I would and I don't have anything else going on, so give me a little while and we'll start up again!

Few plants choke this barren patch of mined earth, and so the rising sun sears the ground through no shade, driving the two prisoners back to the cool corner last to be touched, yet before long does their last refuge too yield to the light, leaving the pair baking in the delirious heat as they press against stone not yet warmed.

"Shasta?" asks the girl dreamily, turning her sweat-matted head toward the other.

"Yes?"

"Why do you care about saving my village?"
>>
There is a long moment before Shasta inhales and stretches her limbs, thinking back to her dreams of the past night. "When I see people forced to do the will of others, I can't help but intervene. In the place I came from, no one was truly free. Everyone was told what to do, and made to do it, by force if needed."

"You mean, like this place?" questions the jungle-born waif, her crude understanding of civilization halting comprehension of the Arcology's strange castes.

"Not exactly..." Shasta continues, lovely brow furrowing as she struggles to give voice that the girl will not only hear but know. "There was comfort, but you were only allowed to do a few things."

"Was there shade?"

"There wasn't any sun at all."

"It sounds nice," wistfully remarks the adolescent. "Was there any wa-"

Shasta's demand for cessation is well-timed, for in the courtyard where stands the strange totem, two slaves of Rin's village labor to drive ahead of them a one-wheeled cart loaded with glittering stones, as driven in turn they are by the scarred woman, who raises her baton to them just as readily as to their unseen watcher!

"Come on, move it, or I'll break your skull open and kick your body the rest of the way!"

From beyond Shasta's view steps the woman who assigns order to these slavers, and to Shasta's keen ears there is ire lingering in the back of the slaver's voice as she surveys their burden! "This is all you have to show for the last three days?"

"We're working them as hard as we can, ma'am!" the scarred woman asserts, and as the woman's gaze travels from the stones to the villagers, both flinch beneath and fill the air with weak-voiced pleas!

"We're sorry... it's just... there isn't any left to mine-"

"It'll have to do," snaps the woman, turning her eye once more to the loaded cart. "The men will be here soon."

That's it for this episode and this story, so thank you to everyone who's participated and I hope you all had as much fun as I did!

This is the part where I would usually post a picture of the game table, but I've got a secret to confess. If you're wondering why my ID is different than when I started, it's because I'm on vacation right now. I started taking pictures last night after anon rolled that last 12, but I knew if I stayed up to write it all out I'd be up all night, so I took all the pictures up to the final decision, then shot endings for both outcomes.

Here's what would have been posted if Shasta had decided to roll solo.

If you liked this episode and want to read more, the previous two episodes of Shasta's adventure are archived on suptg, along with almost all previous episodes from the past 8 years:

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=lego%20quest

The official Lego Quest wiki will eventually have pages for Shasta, Rin, and a bunch of other stuff from this game and you can read all the dorky details that you probably didn't care about:

http://legoquest.wikia.com/wiki/Lego_Quest_Wiki

And if you are on Twitter and follow me you will get a tweet whenever a new episode starts or a current episode continues:

Thanks again for playing everybody!

Now for some Easter eggs and miscellaneous rambling

First off, Shasta herself is primarily a ripoff of based on Axa, a popular British cheesecake comic strip character, who is a barbarian woman with a sword in a post-apocalyptic world who first came from a high-tech sealed remnant of the pre-apocalyptic society.

The Arcology was largely inspired by the Polish movie Seksmisja, which features a post-apocalyptic underground city populated entirely by women.

Rin, like most characters in Lego Quest, was just made up on the spot because I figured it would be good to have an exposition machine in the prison-carriage but she turned out to be a great addition to the cast.

Nali is a panther I guess.
>>
According to the file metadata on this picture, I've been planning this game since at least April of 2017. I was originally going to have a pink sleeve on the female outfit but I never got around to ordering enough pink arms before I got the urge to run this game, which I think worked out okay because only males having colored sleeves sort of highlighted that males are something notable.

Police white visor is a Calculator Man visor that I removed the printing from, armor is also Calculator Man, and pink sleeve is from the Harley Quinn CMF. I only have two Harley torso/arm combos and two pair of white legs with black shoe printing, so for this scene I had to make sure to take the shots at an angle where you couldn't see the arm or feet >>3025450

I originally didn't have any idea about whether or not Shasta had superpowers, so when anon suggested it early on I thought it worked great in the scene and opened up a fun opportunity for future awesomeness.
>>
Sixteen and Nine were made up on the spot after anon rolled so well to make friends. So were their caste titles, which I messed up a couple times like calling Nine "Exploratory" instead of "Exploration". A full list of named Arcology castes will be posted on the wiki eventually, along with a mallspeak translation guide.

I put the prison-carriage together the Sunday before I started the first episode. It came together pretty quickly and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I thought I might reintroduce the horsey at some point but I never got around to it and the story didn't seem to require it but I kept it around on the table all the way through just in case. I suppose it probably didn't want to come near Nali.

Nali, the leopards, and the big Venus flytrap monster are all from the recent City Jungle theme. I ordered a few parts direct from Lego because I've always wanted molded big jungle cats. Nali herself was a last-minute addition to the game, and her gender was specifically ambiguous all the way through the first episode because I still hadn't decided.
>>
I made the flytrap monster before the start of the game, but these things were created on the spot to menace Rin. Really pleased with how they turned out. The mold marks on the clips sort of look like eyes which is unintentional because I wanted them to be eyeless, but I didn't think about it until after I had already posted a few pictures where you could see them.

And speaking of things created on the spot because of Rin, I was certainly not expecting anon to roll a 12 to randomly discover a secret bunker, but I had an amazingly high amount of fun running them through the Sicherheitsunterkunft. If you pay close attention to the license plates visible throughout the game, you might be able to guess that some of the vehicles were originally from the same geographic region as Will Banger and Bill Zeebub. I thought it would be funny if the AI for this new not-Arcology was German, and everything spiraled from there. I originally kind of wanted to have SOMETHING living there, but I didn't know what. My first thought was an old man who was the last of his people, then I had a couple other ideas that didn't really go anywhere, but I knew that I didn't want to hand over a ready-made base.

Nobody seemed to notice, but the mutant weed that got squished by the door disappeared (along with its juices) in the time that Rin and Shasta went into the fewing screen room and when Shasta ran out to save Nali. That was supposed to be a hint that something was moving around, but it wasn't a big deal because I tend to drop a lot of stuff that doesn't go anywhere.

These guys were made up about twenty minutes before I started shooting their scene. When I got my Detective Office set, I was really annoyed with how shitty the face printing on the minifigs was. It's the classic smile pattern, but the ink was laid down really spattery and looks fuzzy close-up. Compared to pieces from 30 years ago, it looks awful.

Anyway, it rubs off fairly easily with an eraser, so when I was putting together various combinations for monstrous minifigs and had the sudden thought of eyeless smiles, I immediately knew that was what I had to do.
>>
This scene took a really long time to shoot because I had to set up the jungle scene, take the jungle pictures, put them on my laptop, edit them, put them on my phone, set up the Sicherheitsunterkunft scene, hold my phone up to the window with one hand and shoot with the other hand, then edit that picture.

I wasn't really thinking when I built the fewing screen room because I chose the red window frame with shutter pegs because I only have one blue tinted window glass and this is the only stand-up window it fits, but it never occurred to me that I was just gonna shop the screen anyway so I could have used a flat window frame that was clear, but like I always say, that's the perils of live theater!

I figured out a few years ago that I could use photoshop to desaturate the blues in a scene that made use of UV lights, but I rarely get to do it because there's usually some blue in the scene elsewhere like a piece or some printing. Even though the torch resulted from a low roll, it turned out to be the best type of light to take into the dungeon!

Anyway, when I cranked down the blues and got rid of the light itself in the scene, meaning the parts that were illuminated just by the visible blue light from the UV lights lost all their illumination, making the only parts that stand out were the parts that react to the UV light and glow internally. This has the added bonus of highlighting the reflection of the glowing piece on the surrounding pieces, like how the torchlight lights up the near side of Shasta's hair.

This handsome guy was just made up on the spot, as was Rin's cage, which I think looks really nice with the round cap and base. The head honcho is made of a Primo brick with smile printing, with Duplo pieces surrounding that and the Duplo plate under his mouth connected to a System plate. It's always nice how Lego elements can connect upward and downward between the different scales.

Here are the eye bricks that go with the mouth

This summer I got a great garage sale haul of pieces that included a ton of Duplos in colors other than the primary ones, such as medium blue, white, trans-light blue, and a number of black 2x2s and 2x4s, which were super duper helpful in making the charred version at the end of the scene. It would have looked terrible if I had to make it out of regular System bricks and it would have taken up more time than I would have liked, so it was very nice to have them on hand.

As posted last thread, this whole encounter sort of spiraled away from where I thought it would go with the mall subplot and everything. I originally just introduced the witch as "ha ha anon rolled a 1 to have a cozy campfire scene so now there's a penis monster".

The mall was a lot of fun to put together even if it took up a bunch of time that could have been better spent adventuring, and I guess it made a nice second act.

I haven't posted the internal pictures of the mall stores yet, but I will post them when I get home either in this thread or in the Lego General. I wasn't sure how much they were going to go into the stores so I made them with a lot of details including brickbuilt cash registers and overhead lights on the undersides of the ceiling plates.

I was originally going to have an encounter with the Pet-Sores, but after I got a bunch of minifigs put together I realized I didn't really want to run a fight scene where a bunch of small animals potentially got hurt so I changed it at the last minute to these ladies. It probably worked out for the best this way because they would make more sense knowing where the Lawn-Kleen was.

This shot was created by standing Shasta on the edge of a baseplate that was on the edge of the table, attaching the top tip of one of these huge trans-neon orange Ice Planet 2002 windows to the baseplate in front of her, and then shining my UV flashlight (great for detecting scorpions!) upward through the window. It completely filtered out the blue light and just created an extremely bright orange glow from underneath, which made for some boss lighting that absolutely made the shot.

This half-sunken car has a working trunk. It never came up, but if someone had rolled to look in the trunk there might have been something cool inside. I kind of wish I had spent more time in this area because I really like how the car looks.

This stylized name was thrown together from some fonts I found on dafont that afternoon. There's a little imperfection with the bottom of the T overlapping the A but that's probably a good sign for this game.

I got these three fan clip pieces that make the Council seats this summer, and I'm really glad I did because they look so cool like this. Council and Supreme Scientist were both made up on the spot but Arcology NPCs are easy to make because all I have to pick is the head and hair.

Built this just for the scene. If you watch Seksmisja, there's a funny scene where some lady guards are driving around on a golf cart through the hallways of the underground city.

As anon guessed, these side extensions are boat hull pieces, specifically from this Friends boat. I knew I wanted to have a scene where there was a missing bridge over water, but the execution of the building took about two hours before I suddenly hit on the idea of using the boat hulls. I only have a finite amount of 2x2 white tiles, so I had to dismantle two sections of tiled walls to finalize these, which meant I waited until I was sure that I was going to use the scene before I finished putting it all together. It's a pretty simple construction: a pair of 2x6 plates with Technic bores stacked on the underside of a larger white plate, and the larger plate covered with tiles. There are a bunch of Technic bores on the ship hull, so I just ran some Technic pins through the deck of the hull to the undersides.

Black spyglass piece stuck to her foot, image rotated 180 degrees, and adjusting the black level to match the spyglass to the black posterboard background. Very proud of how this ended up for how simple it was to produce.

I thought this guard might become a temporary PC but I guess I wrote her characterization kind of harshly so I can't blame the players for what they decided!

Thanks for playing! This has been a ton of fun on my side, and I really missed running these games.

As someone pointed out a thread or two back, the last time I ran a game before Shasta'a adventure was April 1. I hurt my arm this past spring and long story short it made it nearly impossible to type for more than a couple minutes a day and holding a camera was dicey, so the last six or seven months have been mostly been spent working on a big project that I'm currently about half finished with, pic related. I recently found out the problem had been misdiagnosed, so while it's not 100% yet, it's gotten better enough to run a game!

I think that's about it for Easter eggs, but if anybody wants more info on anything, we still have 30+ image slots.

Thanks anon, that's very nice to hear! A few years ago an anon asked me if I'd be willing to take longer between scenes and put more detail into the builds, so I've been trying to make the game more fun to look at.

I guess one more thing I should post is this picture. I accidentally resized it to 500x375 before I posted it last thread and didn't realize until after I had posted a bunch more pictures. Here it is at intended size for the sake of completion.

So what was the back up plan if we all started rolling ones during the pant scene?

Thanks anon! Pretty sure I already erased the original, but I think I re-shot that image a couple times because the implication of motion wasn't quite right.

Sort of unrelated, but a lot of the reason why my replies take so long to get posted is because I end up re-shooting after I'm already in post-production, and sometimes it wasn't the most recent shot so I have to go back and re-pose everything. Here's a picture that was still in the recycle bin for example. When I first made this scene, there were a couple of small fires at the perimeter of the kindling, and Shasta's torch had a flame, and I wanted them to glow so I used a UV light, but then when I got to post-production cleanup I was really unhappy with how much blue was being cast on the scene, and spent about five minutes in photoshop unsuccessfully trying to remove it. I also realized I wasn't happy at all with the composition itself, saw that the fires I had placed weren't even visible inside of the framing, and eventually just said "Forget it" and redid the whole shot without UVs and just framed the torch so you couldn't actually see any of the flame. Much happier with the second version.

>So what was the back up plan
>back up plan
Ha ha no. The only things I ever plan ahead of time are the minifigs and the sets. Sometimes I don't even have the MC's name settled until I start posting like this game. NPCs are almost always named on the fly.

>if we all started rolling ones during the pant scene?
I dunno, desperate race to find a cure where all the bad rolls are blamed on increasingly-dire tummy troubles resulting in painful death if you rolled too many 1s, or who knows, maybe Shasta's powerful constitution allows her to survive the birth the following day and she births either a monster that she immediately has to battle, a friendly monster, or a minifig made with one of my green minifig heads. Or maybe just an inert mass of plant matter. Who knows!

was the penis monster one of the plants that was missing from the archology? did you have any backstory for the witch

>was the penis monster one of the plants that was missing from the archology?
No, that was probably a little confusing because of the way I wrote the Supreme Scientist's dialogue. Both he and the witch were working on their own methods for some nebulous way to stop the plants from overgrowing everything, but the implication was supposed to be that the "missing" plant in his collection was successfully killed by his latest test. Afterward I thought I should have just used a brown piece for that bottle instead of leaving it empty, but sometimes I don't think of the most optimal solution before it's too late to change it.

Penis monster just appeared because someone rolled a 1 to make camp and then safely move on the next day.

>did you have any backstory for the witch
No, I usually just make a bunch of minifigs that fit the look of the setting and grab them from the pile as needed. One exception is usually "law enforcement", which depending on the setting can be cops, town guards, post-apoc militia, etc. etc. Those at least get a hierarchy like the Chief who had a nice belt and cute boots. I wonder if the anon who wanted to take her boots last thread noticed that she had them in the final shot.

In this case the witch's only backstory was "she's some kind of solitary person wearing camo and has a dust mask so she can safely work around spores and stuff"

Going to dump some shots of the sets before I take them apart, starting with the waterworks area of the Arcology. From here you can see how the tiled plates are anchored to the boat hull sections. There are Technic pinholes on the sides of the hulls, so both sides of the doorway have a pair of 1x1 bricks with Technic pinholes with friction pins running up the frame. I had a separate section of wall that was the same height as the main part because the light box needed to be able to balance on top of it.

In this shot >>3026131 I used the wall section with the archway on the bottom to simulate the room's far wall. More about those tiled wall sections in the next post.

These tiled wall sections worked out amazingly well for being able to throw together Arcology rooms on the fly. If you're unaware, one of the basic ratios for building with Lego elements is 5 plates in height : 2 studs in width. Because the tiled sections are 8x8, flipping them sideways and setting them on top of a tile makes the assembly exactly the same height as this standard wall section. They attach in the back with some headlight bricks flipped sideways.

Here are the interiors of the mall shops. I didn't go overboard on the details because they were probably going to be darkly-lit so details wouldn't show up very well, and I didn't even know if anyone would go inside any of them so I figured I was already taking enough time away from the game to build them.

The luggage store ended up getting a slight revision during shooting because I wanted that hot air balloon poster to be visible. It was originally had it on the opposite wall but I wanted to shoot from the angle I did so I had to tear out some pieces at the last second.

I only made four shops, but this one was double-wide and had window frontage on two sides, so I made heavy use of it by covering up parts with rocks and using it in the background a lot.

The spinning clothing rack is nothing special but it's my favorite part.

Forgot to mention one thing about the mall shops - I made them all on 16x16 baseplates (not standard plates) so I could align them against the regular bley baseplate I was using for the mall floor. That way I didn't have to keep popping them off the baseplate to move them around. Worked out great.
