With all the might of Godly power ravaging your bodies, time is a pressing factor for both Maria and yourself. Your Darnite counterpart had already reached her threshold for the blessings of her Goddess, but not until she single handedly secured your victory against the Goblin Matriarch. Her soul destroying barrage of earth rending punches had left the monster bleeding to death and sprawling against the remains of the last remaining building, barely upright or even in a single piece from the unrelenting tide of blows.

Whereas your own divine powers drain you physically to the point of severe injury or death from overuse, the young woman who felled the mighty matriarch seems to be simply exhausted to the nth degree. The white glow of her armour fades as it begins crumbling away into a vaguely luminous dust, leaving a sparkling and almost ethereal trail to mark her tumultuous descent to the ground. Despite her shortness, the impact of her body on the ground is oddly violent; a dust cloud being thrown up towards the sky and across the pockmarked battlefield.

Like a judge laying down a final verdict of execution, you slowly raise your finger toward the shambling matriarch. It’s many legs and remaining limbs are all flailing weakly and searching desperately for any purpose on the ground or surrounding rubble to pull the splintered hulk of cracked chitin, shredded muscle and rapidly flowing blood to at least die on its feet in a last noble stand against the warriors who have bested it so utterly. But desperation is not always successful, and your divine execution is unstoppable.

Minerva concentrates her being into one pure bolt of fiery death, channelling the power of the Orange Sun and launching it across the vast blankness of Venura’s Void and towards your plane. Untold millions of miles are crossed in instants as the already intense orb of fire in the sky seems to somehow catch fire. Flames burning is all that any witnesses can describe that brilliant blinding light that overtook the entirety of Minerva, a forewarning of the cataclysmic powers that you called upon. And then the world fell silent as her wrath approached.

The wrath of a Goddess is a humbling thing, even to the mighty predator of the subterranean world. As if the goblin never existed, the beam of pure unadulterated death pierces the beast’s core and then expands into enveloping it in a brilliant orange-gold column of light that then explodes with such intensity that the very strings that hold your body together scream and strain at the sheer fucking rawness of Minerva’s majestic and raw power.

But you hang on despite it all, holding on just enough for the ensuing explosion to ignite the atmosphere and burn the ground, sky and moisture in the air until there’s simply no fuel of any kind left to even ignite. Like the angel who’s form your manifested, you simply sink down to the ground as your smoky golden form fades and disappears. Looking around at the second clearing of glass you have moved your Goddess to create. You retch, a worrying amount of blood staining your borrowed and ragged robes while your consciousness flees from you like a startled rabbit.

Like a lump of butchered meat you slump over, having to summon up the willpower in your battered limbs to look up and take a step forward. There’s only one pressing concern for you right now, concerns that supercede anything else that your body or mind could tell you. Commonsense, self preservation, strategy, duty are all forgotten as something within you breaks at the silence around you.

“Hona? Hona…” You croak, staggering forward into the bleak wasteland you’ve wrought. The saw on your waist becomes a pair of half shields as no response if forthcoming, not from Honamurei, Chiron or even Maria. This manages to inject some adrenaline into you as you approach the last known location of your songbird at your current top speed.

It’s little more than a trot or even a brisk walk by your usual standards, but it’s enough to collapse your legs from under you and reduce you to crawling. And you crawl on the glassed earth, agonisingly slow as something begins building in you. Your broken and cracked nails drag your increasingly limp body across the slippery crimson stained glass, your words muted by the river of blood that you retch with every exertion. Every yard you traverse between you and the mound of rubble that might hold - no must hold - it has to hold Hona is purchased by the every growing list of internal wounds. An ever growing list that i ever worsened due to your dogged drive to find her, every single wound in your body simply widening and bleeding further.

“HONA!” You beg, retching once more with such violence that it sends your head slamming into the ground. With your face caked in blood your hope begins to fade as there is no movement from the small rubble pile, nothing but the destruction wrought by your own reckless wielding of unstoppable force. “Lisbeth?” You beg with tears starting to come, “LISBETH! Don’t leave me-” The voice coming from you is weak, trembling and almost a stranger’s. “Please… Lisbeth.”

As if the desperation in your voice awoke something within her; Lisbeth suddenly stands upright. Despite the grievous looking wounds rapidly regenerating before your eyes, she manages to rise with enough force to send a larger fragment of rubble tumbling against the glass floor and bouncing across the plane. Her face is twisted into a grimace of pain and exertion, as with a steadily increasing growl she begins extricating her form from beneath the tomb that could have saved her life. Protected by Lisbeth’s last ditch effort of strength, Chiron and Mar are huddled together in a heap of red hair and pale flesh.

But you have no eyes for any of them, simply taking in the twitching musculature of your mate in all of her glory. There’s not a single trace of lust in your mind, not even a batted eye at the fact your power has burned the clothes clean off of her. She just fills you with awe and a dull ache in your heart as she stands tall, a giant amongst you all. What she lacks in height, she has time and again proven to have in power, speed, heart and of course her indomitable spirit. The relief on your face must be a sight to see, because just for a single moment Honamurei’s brilliant blue eye gleams with victory and a myriad of emotions. Like she is shrugging off a blanket she flexes her shoulders and her growl transforms into a victorious shout that makes full use of her stretched vocal chords; the seeming eases of the gesture impressive in it’s own right as it sends the rubble falling away from both unconscious forms behind her.

She strides over to you, the whole in the front of her face nor the receding burns across her chest and arms managing to leave so much as even a slight blemish on her majesty. It takes all that you have in you not to become a blubbering mess, instead heaving your body backwards until you can sit at something resembling upright and stare up into her eye. With adoration akin to that of a Priestess before a Goddess you simply stare at this all conquering heroine. Bare to the world, eyepatch less, Honamurei plants her sword in the Earth, shattering the glass effortlessly and approaching you with nothing but her disarming tender smile.

The embrace is everything you never knew you could need anymore. Both you clutch each other as if it were the last time you’d meet, naked and pure in your emotions. Time stands still as the scent of her hair and the fact that you did it begin to sink in. Her hands on your back, your hands on hers, this is all you need. This is all you’ll ever need. “I love you… I love you so much Lisbeth.” You tearfully admit.

“I know.” She responds, voice still booming from the giant blood courisng through her veins, “Even vhen you say you vont be mate I am-”

“I am.” You protest, pulling away to stare into her eye, “I’m your mate. I’m whatever you want me to be.”

She smiles, that same wide smile she had when you first rolled up to the gates of Grinnsmon and complimented her. That unique all encompassing smile that somehow strides the barriers of disbelief and pure genuine happiness. “I love you Purps. My mate.”

“I love you too Lis-” You don’t even get to finish as she kisses you, so soft and gentle it’s like she’s scared to break your body further than what she knows you’ve done to it yourself.

“Mine.” She growls, sending your heart fluttering and body to heat. “Now sleep my mate.” Before you can protest her command, she sings to you. Just like she did once before when things were happier. The song of her Mother Tongue and the one thing she loves from her childhood.

Shared with you. Only you. Together and safe on a glassed battlefield in the middle of Academy City you fell in love with her for the second time as the creeping tide of unconsciousness overtook you.

You are Vernon Lexington and you have been called to the Headmistress’ office to answer some very pointed, difficult but very much urgent questions. Fortunately for you, you happen to know for a fact that the Headmistress is well aware of almost all of the answers to the questions she’s intending on asking and is actually the only person just as responsible for this mess as you are.

Now that you’ve had time to examine the orb of portal enhancement, it’s very obvious to you that someone or something was messing with it from one of the destinations it had been linked to. What’s less clear is how long the orb was randomly opening portals due to this unknown factor’s manipulation before it unleashed the Ingraz Fencer that Purps found, nevermind the Goblin Hive or the ceaseless potential destinations it could have accessed in between.

If you were sitting behind the desk things would be different. Instead of sitting in a top tier alchemical laboratory disguised as a headmistress’ office, you’d be sitting in a sensible study with whatever magitech and mundane assets you could get your hands on.

You also wouldn’t worry about maintaining the secret of what makes health potions in front of people who bore witness to just what exactly Goblins are really capable of. “What I’m saying, is that we need to know just exactly what Vernon wis doin’ with a portable Goblin invasion.” Chiron says, the woman sporting a blood bandage over much of her face. Unfortunately for you, your old punching bag’s mouth remains free to speak. You light up a cigarette while she rants, “Now I’m no sayin’ he’s evil. Far from it, I love the old git. But e’s got to at least explain ‘imself a bit more properly now we’re on clean up eh?”

The Centaur finds now of all times to be the time to start showing up to staff meetings, his echoing voice colder than his normal ethereal words, “For one so wise, it is indeed for him to have such a device left unsecured. A mastery of warding, amongst a staggering array of magical schools would point to the measures you had in place being lacking, if not negligent. I surmise from my experience of your abilities that this shoddy security fills me with suspicion.” You raise an eyebrow at this, glasses catching the light as you look at the Fae with guarded hostility. If he were to start a fight he’d be nothing but hooves in a second; no matter how broad his expertise and accurate he may be with his special bow - you’re untouchable to someone like that. “Do not be so shocked. To someone knowledgeable of what you can do; it almost appears you intentional let someone do this by leaving the orb free like that.”

“And I think that you’re being needlessly hostile.” The sheepgirl in the room counters. You’re not too familiar with the Denmother beyond her reputation for enjoying a nice whiskey, so it’s surprising to hear her defend you, “I’m sorry Starrk, but you need to stop looking at a puppy and calling it a wolf. Vernon is mighty, but he’s no God and certainly no Oracle.”

The fiery youngster in the martial arts outfit bristles at that, “Don’t you go blamin’ this on the Headmistress Bella or I’ll-”

“You’ll be calm. Or be removed.” Zar Tan says, the orc finally breaking his stony faced silence. “We need to focus. If we appear weak when Tarth arrives, she will assume command. This Academy deserves our utmost competence. Not to have us squabbling like snaprussel hatchlings.” The man’s common is still heavily accented and stilted after decades of life, but you’re well aware his time is most often spent with nothing but his thoughts and the wild for company. So you always make allowances, for there is a sharp mind behind the weathered greenskin.

“Indeed; I might just be a smithy but ah cin promise ye aw, this is a clusterfuck. If we dinnae deal wae it the Senator n ‘is opposites ‘ll be offerin’ aid and garrison in nae time. We need tae put oot a strong image and we need tae dae it pronto.” The feminine looking donkey man growls his speech to everyone in the room, giving you a brief glance at your best friend Haryan. His familiar snoozes on his lap and his hands shake while he adjusts it’s hood, today took a lot out of him, it called for the scale of magic he should have stopped harnessing forty years ago.

“Lexington. Will you deign us with an actual comment on this matter? Or are you just going to silently watch and wait for us to solve the problem your stupid portal device dropped in our laps? Maybe you’ll even tell us the truth about why this happened?” The ill disguised contempt from the newcomer raises every single hair on your body. Despite your years, power and knowledge you shudder when The Head Physician of The Academy slams the ancient doors of the office behind her. Every footstep is like a bullet in the air yet breeds as much silence as a priest’s eulogy.

“Karhea-” Headmistress Thorindel says, her milky white eyes trying to look anything except creepy as she tries to empathise with her longtime friend and recent subordinate.

“Oh, your “““Daughter””” is fine by the way.” Karhea continues without missing a beat, positively drowning you in scorn as she plucks the cigarette from your mouth and slamming it on the ground to be crushed underfoot. For some reason she’s baiting you; bullishly flaunting the secret of Purps’ cover identity in front of onlookers, stealing your cigarette, mocking you. There’s something you don’t know for once and whatever it is, it somehow enraged her to act like this even with the leverage you hold.

“Thanks Karhea. For all the work you’ve done today, you didn’t have to go out of your way to treat her. From the bottom of my heart, I mean it.” Its not hard for you to sound earnest and grateful, but you can tell from her expression she’s a heartbeat away from telling you where to shove it. Instead she makes a non committal noise. The tension is defused temporarily, even if whatever issue she has with you still remains.

At least now you can address everyone else’s issues. “The orb is indeed a powerfully enchanted item Haryan and I collaborated upon long ago. I needed a way to travel to faroff planes that would allow me to return without conducting the incredibly time consuming and sometimes amoral rituals needed to cross from their plane to ours.”

“Okay, so you had a magical shortcut back home.” Chiron grumbles, “That don’t really explain why it connected to a goblin nest-”

“Hive.” Zar Tan chimes in.

The Warlord continues unphased. “Whatever. Why was it connected to a Goblin thing.”

“Goblin parts are materials for certain powerful spells.” You counter, hoping the vague yet confident answer will dissuade them.

“Okay. When was the last time you went after these materials?” Karhea presses.

“Not for a year. Which brings me to my next point.” You clear your throat. “Somehow, someone managed to magically activate the orb from one of the destinations it’s linked to. That most likely means someone managed to bear witness to me both emerging where they were and casting a spell on it to head back.”

“Awright, so you know where they came fae. That makes it easy tae-”

The smith is silenced as you interject, “No. I don’t. Judging by the fact an Ingraz Fencer and then Goblins were released. They covered their tracks by letting the orb open portals all over. Even without that step of caution from our intruders, it’s not even certain if I could somehow backtrace where the portals opened anyway.”

Headmistress Thorindel leans forward on her desk. “Intruders?”

> I don’t see why else someone would go through all the trouble to backdoor my portal except to bypass The Academy wards.

“At the end of the day. I can’t come up with any reason for someone to backdoor my orb unless it was to get around The Academy’s wards.” It’s a perfectly logical conclusion. “We all know how airtight those are.” To further your point you look at the newer faces in the room. “For the benefit of you two, every headmaster and professor of magical study has added to the protective spells that are wrapped around Academy City and The Academy itself. The warding on this place predates human history, perhaps even Dwarven history too.”

The sheep girl nods, but her counterpart looks confused, “Okay, so let me get this straight The headteachers and the wizards have been locking this place up for centuries right? Then how come we still have thieves in the town or deal with shit like the goblins today?”

“Y’know ah didnay hink ay that.” Master Smith Nortagh muses aloud, scartching his smooth chin. “If yous hiv us aw protected, why the garrison? An’ why do we even lock aw they artifacts up?”

It’s Headmistress Thorindel who answers, cutting you off before you’re able to postulate, “Because this Academy’s mission is not to turn out paragons of virtue and the purest of souls. All are welcome, so long as they do not intend on the Academy’s destruction or are inherently a threat to it’s existence with their mere presence.” As the Oracle stops for breath, you cut her off this time.

“So we can welcome in thieves, assholes and yer common evil bastards. But if any of them are actively lookin’ to murder folk, possessed, undead.” Karhea’s eyes narrow at the use of the word, “Or in any way a tickin’ time bomb - that’s the kinda thing the wards stop.”

Chiron looks totally lost, “But wait, don’t that mean the thieves coulda just bypassed ‘em?”

“Not if they came here intending on committing a heist. Then they’d have triggered at least the staff alarm ward.” You take a second to exhale a smoke ring. “Like that time forty or so years ago. Remember that guy with the rock hair?”

“Oh yeah. You said we magically diasplaced or somethin’.”

“Unstable.” you correct only to be brushed off by Karhea.

“Okay, so some thieves somehow worked their way into the academy through your poorly secured magical item. We’ve identified the problem, what now?”

“Well now we put the feelers out and try to work out who it actually was. After all, this ain't the kind of thing yer average bandit or highwayman pulls off.” You extinguish your cigarette on the little dish Thorindel keeps handy just for you. “So Karhea, why don’t you get in touch with your old band of murderers, thieves and mercenaries?”

The reaction to your comment is sudden and violent, Nortagh and Chiron both loudly demanding an explanation. The Headmistress just looks disappointed instead of shocked or surprised, but you suppose that’s one of things about being an Oracle. Of all people it is the sheep woman who brings calm, shushing the staff with the trained hush of someone who holds authority of rebellious incredibly powerful youngsters. “What are you actually implying here Professor?”What kindness and support she had offered you is clearly gone, that question tinged with outright suspicion.

Well-”

“He’s talking about STARS.” Karhea says, furiously standing before you, “And the son of a bitch has it in his head that he’s so infallible that only one of us betraying him could cause him to make a mistake. Am I right?” She’s actually looming over you in the seat, with enough killing intent that you’re pretty sure she’s planning to punch you through the ancient doors should you even slightly give her just cause.

Well, she’d try anyway. Even if you’re not an illusion this time, your wards should be able to take whatever swing she could take right now. “Well, I was referring to STARS. But more due to the fact they tend to have a hand in high profile and unusual robberies.” You smirk, “Or are you pretending they didn’t get their hands on an artifact once?”

Karhea seems wounded by the mentioning of the incident, enough so that she takes a half step backwards, “Don’t you da-”

“Wait, you’re saying that the nigh on pacifist - the one who only uses healing magic and surgery. You’re saying she was some kind of ex bandit queen?” Chirons one working arm is draped across her chest, “C’mon Vernon. Pull the other one.”

You size up Karhea, she looks wary but much less violently angry. Just bitter. There’s not much you can provide to support your claims without throwing her to the wolves and revealing her true nature. While she’s openly been antagonistic to you, a healer of her quality is a fantastic ally.

Perhaps turning her into an outright enemy isn’t smart.

But you need to leverage her into contacting them somehow. while also disputing Karhea's claim you're lying. After all, pointing out a group pulled off an artifact theft does little to prove Karhea had anything to do with them.

“Karhea here was far from a bandit Queen Chrion, and let’s be honest. You’re not one to judge on that front Warlord.” You take a breath, “What Karhea was at the times, was somewhat of a freelance healer. She took clients from whoever had the coin and was willing to be somewhat responsible and courteous.”

“That’s it?” Nortagh asks.

“More to it.” Zar agrees.

“Well, of course a bunch of high profile thieves and heisters are gonna end up cut up more than your little farmhand or thug. So they’d come around more often and she could shake ‘em down for much more gold than she could most clients. And when you see the same people so often, you get to talkin.’”

Starrk speaks up the fae’s odd stilted speech patterns giving you time to get a read on the room, Karhea is suspicious for obvious reasons. However, Nortagh and Zar Tan seem to be coming around, which just leaves the three women. Chiron looked proud someone remembers her track record, while Bella and Miranda are deep in thought. Thankfully, you know Thorindel probably looked into Karhea and wouldn’t be blindsided, “What you are proposing is that a relationship formed?”

“How dare yo-” Karhea whirls on Starrk.
“Not a relationship like fuckin’.” The look you share with Karhea is enough to let her know that you know exactly who Jul Dyn’s father is. But you press on, hoping to defuse the tension and draw attention away from Karhea’s subtle shudder. “One of the STARS founders was a big Meridian and my sources told me she was spotted in town with a big Cadalonian woman a couple of times.” With a foundation of truth and certainty, you’re able to improvise the few lies. Your research did point toward her being friends with another Cadalonian, perhaps even her husband’s sister or something.

But you had no sources beyond scrying and rumours from low level STARS minions who happened to drink in the same shitholes you frequented in your wandering days. Unsurprisingly, the people trying to lay low from both sides like you and them tended to flock together to the places where the bartenders’ memories were almost nonexistent. It always seemed to be places that forgot to lock the back door out of the place during patrolling hours too.

Who’d have thought?

There’s a little glint in your eye as you finish up and are greeted with approval from the assembled staff. “So I’m thinking she’d be able to get in touch with them. I only say her band because… Well, they’d probably have all killed each other long ago if they weren’t being glued back together by the best in the business.”

Before any further questions can be reached, Thorindel finally takes the wheel of the conversation back from her subordinates. “Alright then. Now let’s talk about the two elephants in the room and how we can keep them apart as much as possible.”

You settle in for a long discussion of your “daughter’s” schedules and a whole lot of needless scaremongering about her potential for destruction. You completely forgot just how much you despised staff meetings up until now, so with a sly hand you unscrew the flask in your inside pocket. You’re pretty sure the sheep girl looks at you jealously and throughout the discussion Karhea very consciously looks elsewhere when you’re about to take a sip. Interesting.

You are Purps, a single star floating in the middle of the infinite abyss you’ve come to know as the world of dreams. Interspersed through the unending darkness are doors of the finest and most intricate design, each one leading into the mind palace of someone out in the world of Munis.

Those nearest you are the ones you have visited before; The Ageless Mausoleum, The Glass Prison, The Marble Citadel. Each one seemingly laying ajar to you, the worlds beyond their frames as easy to reach as laying a hand upon any of them.

But beyond, you see millions of lights creeping between the frames and undersides of doors a million miles away. So many people, all dreaming; unaware that within themselves lies an entire world to be explored and experienced. That is the last thought you have before you place your hand on the immaculate door that leads to The Glass Prison.

Inside stands the solemn face of Honamurei. Hair now resting around her ankles as she perches on the edge of the bed shaped mirror, a pair of brilliant blue eyes staring into the near distance. She is still dressed in her odd flowing nightwear while methodically running the bone brush over her long flowing locks. Last time you tried to reach through the pyramid of glass and mirrors that she is housed within, trying to brute force a way to her.

No matter how hard you pushed, you were unable to drag her from the island and out into the beautiful world of forests and glades that her dreams have built all around her sad little bauble of isolation. So you emerge, breath catching at her form as it always does in reality when you catch her small moments of private vulnerability.

But this time it’s tinged with regret and worry. In Tornin’s world you simply needed to show people would direct him to his goals and that there was nothing wrong with having a goal for himself and making sacrifices to reach it. Here?

Here you see your lover all alone, trapped in despair while unable to see any of the beauty around her. All she sees when she looks up is her own reflection back at her. The mirrors remain perfect and unbroken, inviolable to even your might. A prison of reflections.

>Excitement - Slipstream Dash; five foot teleport that goes through solid matter. Does not maintain momentum and causes disorientation.
What's this? Could we get through the walls with this?
Also we have magnet mode. If we could pull some metal stuff to the walls it may draw her attention outside.
>>
>>3038780
Actually, yeah. Let's use Slipstream and try to at least talk to her, or get her out.

While mulling over the problem of the impenetrable glass pyramid you simply walk a lap around it, hoping against all reason that there is some little imperfection or chink in the surface of her prison. Every step feels otherworldly and light, almost as if the perfectly even grass and foliage beneath your feet is more cloud than grass.

Your hand is outstretched to the glass as you walk, feeling that strange cold surface that only lightly bends under the touch of your fingers. Like a problem designed just to frustrate your particular sensibilities, the pyramid is as flawless and alien as ever.

Then you simply sit and stare with crossed legs, spending what seems like hours staring into her sad eyes and wishing she could hear you. If nothing else you could talk about fighting, or smoking, or ask her to sing or even just ask about her life in Grinnsmon before you came along and ruined it. Honestly, you just wish she didn't’t have to be so alone. Together you could explore the world and fight monsters, or cook great meals, or smoke together, dance together or.

The ideas start to make you smile and you feel a strange energy within one that brings you to your feet as you think of all the things you are going to do with the sad lady inside the glass pyramid. “I’m going to teach you how to make one sided sandwiches, let you learn how to use my saw, try on your hat and-”

With a pop, you find yourself face to face with Hona, actually kind of floating above the ground in front of her. Except; your momentum is nonexistent. Unlike most of your abilities, dashes or any experience with teleportation. This one leaves you tumbling face first on top Hona. Landing on the now completely terrified blonde bombshell in a flailing mess of limbs that are significantly less fun than the type of tangled messes you prefer to get into with her.

She actually screams in a mix of surprise and fear as she begins wielding the bone brush as a makeshift club; weakly smacking your forehead with it. “VHAT ARE YOU!? WHO ARE YOU!?” Her voice is it’s usually chirpy self; but her accent is thicker than bogwater.
