You knew something was up with how Launch replied to you. This is probably her getting back at your costumed vigilantism, in her own way. You and Cocoa both look at the bizarre blonde lady standing before you in... well, certainly not a police uniform. More like track shorts and a tank top with a red baseball cap with the word “Tomato” printed on it. She at least has a police badge. Even if she’s wearing it upside down. She seems about as old as Launch. You’re not really sure you’d ever met her before. Maybe your mom had?

“So you’re the kid she busted the other day.” the lady comments... then blows a bubble with her bubblegum. “Expected you to be taller. Little short for a superhero.” she remarks after it pops.

You’re not sure you like this lady. “...So you must be the escort she told us we had to follow.”

Another pop of her bubblegum. “Akai Tomato.”

“Son Peppa.” you introduce.

“Cocoa Amaguri.” your friend follows.

“A’iight. Let’s get this show on the road.” She turns and walks the two of you to a security guard, a shaggy-looking dog-man. “‘Ey you.”

“...Yes?” he responds hesitantly.

“Open up. We gotta get a move on.” She nods her head over to you and Cocoa.

“Oh? The extras? Third lot, usual place, try to be on time.”

“‘Kay.” The police woman just... sort of marches forward as he opens the gates, not even attempting to explain why you’re here. You’re starting to wonder if Launch set her as your escort to just keep her out of her hair.

“...D-do we follow her?” Cocoa asks, more out of concern as to what she’ll be up to than anything else.

Well... could just let her be. COULD. But... bah. You sigh lowly, responding, “I’m partially wondering if Launch is using this as a test. Oh well. We follow, at least until we can find a clue.”

“Ooookay.” Cocoa comments, starting to walk forward.

But before you follow, you look over to the security guard, then whisper quietly to him. “She’s not an actor, neither are we, she’s a plainclothes officer we’re assisting. She’s following a lead, so be on alert for any suspicious individuals.”

The dog-man raises an eyebrow curiously, but shrugs. “All right. Just try not to make much of a fuss, kid.”

“Thank you sir.” You bow respectfully, then head off with Cocoa, the two of you trying to catch up to Officer Tomato. The three of you pass by a number of studio warehouses and lots, catching glimpses of a few shows and even a movie being filmed.

“So you two have practiced for this, right?” the police woman asks. P-practice? Wha-?

Cocoa nods. “I’ve been giving Peppa some pointers on the way here. She’s a quick learner.”

“W-wai-”

Officer Tomato stretches her arms. “Good. Keep your eyes sharp.”

...So she does know what she’s doing. You think. Cocoa nudges your arm with her elbow. “Remember, deep breath, calm mind, and still voice. Follow my lead.”

“Okay, okay.” Well, guess you’re going to have to put what you’re learning to the test already. You notice a set that looks like a large eastern castle as the officer leads the two of you, with vasious film crews all set up around it. Around the castle are various groups of people in multicolored ninja garb dashing around.

...Hmm. You... are feeling something unusual here. Not quite that banana smell, but you are sort of getting a familiar sense. No strong Ki signatures, but... a couple that seem unusually low. You then hear a gasp from Cocoa. Your head turns. “What, what’s wrong?”

“Eeeeee~!” She’s barely able to contain her excitement as she sees a short-haired blonde man sitting in a chair, talking with what seems to be the director. “Peppa! It’s Barry Kahn!”

You frown. “Cocoa.”

“I know, I know, but... once we’re done, think we can get an autograph from him?” she asks both you and Officer Tomato.

“Eh, if he isn’t in handcuffs.” she replies, then thinks. “...Actually handcuffs could make it easier. Maybe I can get him on some other charge...”

“...Is that legal?” you question.

“Kid, actors have all sorts of skeletons in their closets. Trust me.” She then... sticks out her tongue. She’s joking. With a roll of your eyes, you try to focus on the clue you might be sensing.

“Ki is energy, the latent energy that flows through everything, a life force present in all. Everyone, everything, has a distinct signature, one that flows with the... environment...” You pause. There is one actor you sense that seems weaker than the rest, but as you open your eyes, you see he’s not quite as in-shape as the rest. Though... there’s another one. You close your eyes again, starting to walk forward. You... you DEFINITELY sense that. Well, rather, you sense the “lack” of it. One of the actors is unnaturally weak. He has Ki, but he’s almost trying to mask it within the environment. It’s like a person with the amount of Ki a baby bird has. You open your eyes. Got ‘em, now to-!

“Peppa watch out!”

“Oof!” a man’s voice exclaims as you bonk into him, awkwardly headbutting him in the side and knocking him down. Oops. You rub your head and- ...uh-oh. “Watch where you’re going you punk!” Barry Kahn exclaims, jolting right up, putting his hands on his hips, and glaring down at you. “Do you extras have ANY sense of direction?! Are you BLIND, kid?”

“Er, sor-”

“If this happens again I’ll have you kicked off the set, you hear me?!” He yells out, grabbing you by your outfit and shaking you a little. “KICKED. OFF.”

You force your eye to not twitch. Jerk. He lets go and storms off before you can say anything, muttering to himself something about child actors. Cocoa and Officer Tomato approach you. “Should have been watching where you’re going.”

But there is someone among the actors There’s a man dressed entirely in black and blue, who seems to almost... blend into the rest of the environment. But he doesn’t at all look like someone with a below-average Ki signature. “...What can you feel, Cocoa? Does that person seem at all strange to you?” you point out the suspicious actor.

“A... a little.” she responds hesitantly. She scratches the top of her head and tries to focus. “Like... it’s weird. I don’t know if this is exactly what you’re ‘sensing’ but... something about his movements, they’re way more deliberate, focused, like he’s... exceptionally well trained.”

“Could be taking performance-enhancers. Creatine.” Akai comments.

“Prrrobably not what I’m sensing.” Though that might be something worth looking into. You look over to Barry Kahn. “...Cocoa, mind telling me a bit more about him? Because I have to wonder, could... he be a target of sorts?”

She lets out a soft gasp. “N-ninja trying to kidnap a famous actor like him...?! W-well, um... they could be trying to get a ransom from him, he’s made quite a lot of money from his acting career... or...” She looks at you, then over at him again. “...Maybe someone who worked with him and got fired? Revenge? I mean, I don’t put a lot of stock in rumors but-”

You rub your head. “One possibility, given what just happened.”

“I-I’m sure it was just an accident...” she mutters out.

Well. You COULD trail Barry Kahn and try to pursue the lead with him, see if there’s anything suspicious going on around him. Maybe make up some big apology, claim you’re a fan of his, see if you can get anything out of him. Cocoa could probably give you some info on him if he starts asking movie trivia to try and prove it. COULD do all that.

But that guy’s a butt. Besides, you have a solid lead on one of the actors already. “Officer Tomato, let’s trail that guy.” you point out the actor with suspiciously small Ki.

Cocoa frowns as she sees Barry walk away, but doesn’t leave your group as the three of you start to watch over the ninja, keeping your distance, with the officer pretending like she’s giving you a tour. Cocoa notes that he seems to be heading away from the actors’ main trailers... curious. You keep away as you see him look around cautiously. He then ducks out of the way... and moves quite a bit faster than his Ki signature indicates he should be capable of.

You stay a good 30 meters away from him as he starts to run. He enters into a warehouse... wait, what’s that you’re smelling? It’s the faintest hint, but seems to be some kind of... fruit. You smirk. He doesn’t seem DIRECTLY aware you’re around, but he’s being cautious. Still, you might have him cornered.

“Play along, he probably doesn’t know you.” You wink. “Put some of your acting skills to work, and I’ll use what you taught me to sneak in.”

“A’iight. Let’s get this show on the road.” Officer Tomato declares.

You start so sneak around, keeping your Ki low and climbing around the area. You hop up onto a roof a building away from the warehouse, then watch carefully. The ninja exits, with Akai ambushing him by... asking for his autograph. Cocoa plays along. Well, guess that works! You crawl along the rooftop then sneak inside the warehouse, your tail grabbing onto the entrance and helping you swing inside.

As you land and start to look around. Curious. It does look like it’s in-use, but for a completely different set. You spot large structures around, some of them almost looking like... giant robots? Huh. Pirate robots of some kind? ...Wonder if Giru would be much of a help here. Well, maybe not, he IS kind of loud, but if you could ever get him to shut his- ...that smell. That smell! It’s just like before! You hurry over to where you smell it most strongly, inside a robot’s cockpit. Carefully you open up a panel...

Jackpot. Bananas. And... and that’s the costume in Cocoa’s photo! You’re about to leap away and confront the ninja when a glimmer of something catches your eye. Compartment above. Just what in the world is- Oh. Oh no. That’s... that’s a Scouter! Okay just what IS going on here? You take care not to activate it, but stash it away and start to head out towards the warehouse entrance. Poking your head out, seems the ninja’s caught up in conversation with Cocoa and Officer Tomato. You have the element of surprise.

You clear your throat, making sure your Ki’s low and your tail’s properly hidden by your outfit, and then approach the ninja. Hrmn... how did Cocoa describe it again? Some kind of... rough, rolled trill way of speaking. Well, you can try and trick him up with this. You let Cocoa know you’re coming, then in as boyish a voice you can manage. “Oi oi, ya’ still at it? What’s the hol’ up?”

Cocoa raises an eyebrow, a prideful but tiny smirk appearing on her lips. “Ah you know, just wanted to meet with some of the cast and crew before we get started on our part.”

“Oh rrrrreally now? Tryin’ ta’ bug some of the experrrts arrre ya?” You place your hands on your hips.

“Well, I’m not rreally an expert.” he replies bashfully. You and Cocoa both notice he seems to force himself not to roll his “r’s” as he speaks. Well well. “Only been acting for a couple years, first rreal gig with a famous actor like Barry Kahn.”

“Rrrreally somethin’ ain’t he, ya? Nothin’ at all like what I expected fo’ a big-shot rrrrrising sta’ like him.” Yack. Keeping this up is making you want to reach for a glass of water. “Bumped into the guy and he threatens ta’ throw me off the set!”

“Haha, w-well, ya’ know what they say about those big name actors! Rrreally let fame go to their ‘eads.” Another couple slips.

Akai blows a bubble. “Should you be heading back soon?”

Seems she’s playing along too. “Ah auntie, the next scene’s not fo’ another few minutes. Rrrrright?”

“...So why were you down here again?” Officer Tomato asks.

He tenses. His eyes seem to go from relaxed to alert, analyzing the three of you carefully. “W-wait a second...”

Akai flips her badge upright. “Oh, and one more thing, a couple weeks ago some amateur was caught on camera stealing costumes from this studio.” She leans forward. “Mind if I ask if you know anything about that?”

“Amateu-!” he almost starts off indignant, but takes a step back and silences himself. “...You prrrobably should be more careful around these parts, ya’ know?” he starts, moving his hands away from his sides. “The lights here can... mess with ya’ ‘eads! SOLAR-!”

You give a quick Kiai and knock him down before he can use the Solar Flare. He flips himself back up, not expecting that but now completely alert.

“Sunglasses!” you ask Cocoa and Officer Tomato. No chances with this! Akai tosses you a pair, but the ninja blasts them with a Dodonpa. Crap! Okay, not risking them getting hurt! You quickly grab on to Cocoa and the police woman and dash away as you feel the ninja charge up another energy blast. He misses and you easily get them out of there. You then lock on to his very faint Ki as he tries to power down again. You spin around, and, closing your eyes hard to prevent him from blinding you, you teleport to him.

He seems to have anticipated that part, as he yells out “SOLAR FLARE!” once you appear... yet he doesn’t quite expect you to land a punch to his gut. Heh, might not be able to see him and can barely sense him, but you’re still able to track him for now. He starts to make a run for it.

“Really, using that move in broad daylight?” you ask, locating a trashcan lid. “Here, this is for you!” You fling it like a frisbee at the back of the ninja’s head, knocking him down. He’s hiding his Ki as best he can now, but you can hear him on the ground, groaning in pain. “So, how about you tell me your ninja way, and we can stop this little cat and mouse game, deal?”

The ninja is... oddly silent. You can still hear him move, you can smell him there, but... he’s acting funny. He better not be trying one of those talismans. Or... maybe you can see what it does.

You hear the ninja stumble and fall, and finally chance opening your eyes. You see the ninja sprawled out on the ground... an odd tablet in his hand. A chill runs down your spine, you dart over to the ninja’s body... no, oh thank goodness. He didn’t ingest it. You grab the man and heave him over your shoulder. “Nighty night, ninja. I’m sure the police will have a lot of questions for you~”

You fly over to Cocoa and Officer Tomato. The police woman smiles and nods approvingly. “Heh, looks like Launch was right on the money.”

“Huh?” You set the ninja’s body down. Wait... was this...?

She blows a bubble and then pats you on the head. “Good hunch, good deductions, focused on keeping people out of harm’s way, not bad, kiddo. I’ll owe ya’ a Bloody Mary when you’re older. I can drag him to the station, if you don’t mind.”

Cocoa sighs in relief. “So this is all over, then?” She then tilts her head, smiling. “...You did look kinda cool there, Peppa. And thanks for, you know, keeping my butt out of the fire there.”

Cocoa immediately pulls out her phone, getting the picture she took up. “Let’s see... let’s see... okay, here. So if this guy is the one here...” She points her phone at the captured ninja, and then to the picture she described as the accented guy. They DO have the same build and everything. They match. “Then there are a few more out there... but would they both risk being in the same location?”

“I should take this guy to the station before he wakes up then.” the officer states, pulling out a small communication device from her pocket.

You cross your arms. Think, Peppa, think... what to do? Hunt the next one down? No, no, he’s probably on alert now. “...Okay, I think I’ve got it. We keep low, get this guy out of here ASAP, but keep an eye out for another ninja like the one in the picture. I’ve got something he might want, but he’ll know better than to try and go after me.”

Akai nods. “A’iight.” She tosses you the communicator. “You’re on point, kid. Consider yourself on watch duty. Contact Launch if you see anything suspicious.”

You bow. “Thank you, officer.”

She starts dragging the ninja away. “Hey, I’ll still owe ya’ a Bloody Mary!”

Hmm... you know, that might be a good attack name. Still, now you’ve got a job to do! Stakeout! But where best to do it?

“Come on.” The two of you head off down towards the ninja castle set again, finding Barry in-costume, reciting a few lines. Looks like he’s playing some lead character. Oddly his ninja outfit is... black and orange, and seems he’s being opposed by some like... shark-man ninja with a massive prop sword.

“You know full well that this Kubikiribocho cannot be beat!” the shark man declares.

“Try saying that five times fast.” you comment to Cocoa.

Without skipping a beat, she starts, “Kubikiribocho, Kubikiribocho, Kubikiribocho, Kubi-”

“Okay, okay! Jeeze, it was a joke.” You cross your arms and out. “How’d you even do that?”

“Practice makes perfect~” she teases.

Once the two are over with their scene, you keep to the shadows and watch as Cocoa hesitantly approaches Barry Kahn. She seems to talk with him for a moment. You try to keep your eyes open for any suspicious movement, sensing around for anyone with unusually low Ki... but your attention keeps getting drawn back to Cocoa. For just a brief moment you sense something odd with one of one of the actors. One of the men, a bit older than Barry... maybe late 20s? He seems unusually tense. Maybe he-

Your attention’s drawn away from him as you notice Cocoa approach... head hung low, a frown on her face. Yeouch. “...Take it he said no?”

“Unless you happen to have an extra 23,000 Zenni to spare.”

What. “...I, uh, have 2000.”

Cocoa hangs her head again. “Then forget about it.”

You bite your lip. Charging that much for an autograph? Sheesh. “...Hey, Cocoa, if you’d rather head home, I can take you. It’s a short-”

She shakes her head.

“...Wanna sit up on the rooftop and continue this stakeout?”

Cocoa nods.

“All right, grab on.” With her arms on your shoulders, you leap up onto the roof with her, letting her get down as you take a position watching over the set. Your eyes focus on the suspicious actor from before. Seems he’s calmed down.

ARGGGGH! Good stuff anyway, it was nice to see Coco punching above her weight class and making up for Peppa's shortfalls. She's a good friend!
Several questions were answered and it looks like we have the ability to make some headway on this in the future. Probably best for Peppa to back off for a little while and let others do some legwork. But that doesn't mean she can't stay on the alert:

The other ninja on set may be Banana, but may also be a fifth ninja, because the outfit was left behind. The two on Klendathu may have been multi-form, or are actually dead. Possibly the wish they're aiming for?

Launch can probably handle the interrogation better than Peppa could, but it would be nice to feed some information to Keli. She seemed pretty concerned about someone stealing/revealing Crane School techniques. She could be the eyes and ears in Mifan if the ninjas abandon the movie set base and watch for any strange behavior. This also may flush out a mole, so caution should be exercised.

Peppa's already got good control, but these guys feel like they might be on another level. There might be something to learn and utilize in training, especially with how draining new forms have proven to be. The best way to learn is to practice and experience it yourself after all!
As an aside, there was also that malevolent power level in Jingle Village that disappeared too, right before Giru. Could they be tangentially related?

And, so that it's available if the worst comes to pass, it might be good to spend some time talking to Maple about the talisman that inflicts Jiang Shi symptoms. Is it temporary or permanent? Do the symptoms come all at once, or over time? What do early onset symptoms look like? Could it be considered a curse, and therefore broken, because it's self inflicted? We can't always get lucky, so better to be prepared. Probably also need to talk to Trip about the fake ball and figure out what to do with it for the time being.

I'd be concerned about the scouter too, but there's a couple reasons I'm not. Maple handed her scouters to everybody. "Hey kid, want a scouter?" was almost a substitute for "Hello, nice to meet you!" Someone was bound to find or use one for their own (evil?) means at some point.
Further, Mifan is a space port - they'll have eclectic space things. If not readily apparent by Vegeta and Nappa's trip(s), things are a mess up there without the Damoclesean threat of the PTO hanging over the planets. On that note, maybe there's some kind of black space-tech market to investigate? Might be neat for a date spot!

The Warrior bit is good, but is that more of a path of the Warrior (because most of the ninjas have been trained fighters), or a physical person? If it's a person, King Kai might have some details, or know some kind of legend. Neither are really something Peppa can investigate on her own without Apple Ninja spilling some beans or some outside help.

I'll be up-front with this: Cocoa doesn't quite have the natural talent and mindset to pull off the substantial growth that Chuu Lee managed, and she's very aware of this and doesn't particularly want to dedicate time to trying to become a warrior like Peppa. She's fine with learning about it, to a degree, but she isn't exactly going to be taking on any tournaments if she does. Lime is a bit more open to training and learning martial arts, but she doesn't exactly want to try and play catch up either.

“All right, what’s bothering you?” Pantea asks, twirling a finger in her purple hair.

“Nothing.” you reply, eyes fixed on the screen before you. Well, okay, there IS something bothering you. You have no damn clue on what you’re supposed to be doing here. You switch your lead over to the Gerudo King again and start attacking the walls. Maybe one of them is breakable...

She lets out a deep sigh. “Gohan, come on, you’ve been at this for 8 minutes now.”

“Why is it so hard to find a key in this dungeon?” you grumble out. “I’m having flashbacks of the Water Temple.”

“Back one room, bombable wall.” Pantea directs you, leaning back on the couch.

To humor her, you switch back to Linkle and head out to the previous room. But only to prove a point. Come on, there’s no way you missed- “...Oh.”

“You missed that entirely. I figured you were just looking for something in that room, but you took 5 minutes too many. What’s bothering you?” she asks again. You... hesitate a response, instead heading into the newly opened room. Pantea leans forward, placing her elbows on her knees and resting her chin on her palms. “I’m going to start guessing if you don’t give me an answer.”

“Nothing big.” you reply dismissively.

“Figured you’d have Zelda in the party by now?” she asks with a slightly teasing tone, a smirk appearing on her lips. “Weeeeell she and Linkle do have a moment after this Temple.”

“Oh shush.” you grumble as your cheeks redden a little. Damn it. Now you HAVE to see what she’s talking about.

“Hah! Knew it. You and your weakness for blondes~” she teases further, poking your cheek. “Waaait... is it that Erasa girl? My my, Gohan, going after the an older girl?”

“Pantea.”

She ruffles your red hair. “Teasing, teasing. There is something on your mind, though. Come on, tell me. You’re not going to be ready for the boss if you’re this distracted.”

Pantea leans back again. “That’s understandable. Mom has been trying to figure out how they’re hiding the Dragon Balls, and I have to admit, that they can even track them down on their own is... troubling. What’s the other thing?”

You bite your lip gently and pause for a while, clearing this room of enemies. “...Want me to be honest?”

“Well, you’re terrible at lying.”

“Fine. I’m... starting to worry I won’t be able to catch up. I haven’t been slacking or anything, hell, I’ve even redoubled my efforts... but all I’m doing right now is playing catch-up. “Pause it.” Pantea tells you, her voice... quite a bit more serious.

She looks over to her father, then to you, eyes still harsh and serious. “Until the three of us make some real progress.”

Pantea nods, has the door close, and readies the controls. “Unless you want me in here with a boy all alone.”

He sighs. “All right, all right.” Rubbing the back of his neck, Yamcha looks down at you. “...Sorry kiddo. Not that I don’t trust you, but, you know.”

You take your fighting stance and try to calm yourself. Yamcha does the same, readying himself, as Pantea finally turns on the Gravity Chamber. A red glow envelops the room as you feel the intense pull on your body. 450x Earth’s gravity. All right, here it goes. “What kind of training you planning on, Pantea?”

Her aura flares up around her, and she forms a pair of Spirit Bits... wait, or is that Yamcha’s Spirit Ball? “Let’s start the warm-up with some reflex training.” Spirit Balls. Definitely. She flings them forward and you dodge out of the way, Yamcha taking the hint and working with his daughter, dashing at you as you try to dodge both his attacks and her Spirit Balls, even with how heavy you feel thanks to the increased gravity. Though you’re getting a few close calls from Yamcha.

“Wow, you’ve been training quite a bit, Mr. Yamcha.” you remark, dodging a jab aimed for your torso. “How far have you come? Think you and Tien are still even? How about you and mom, or Uncle Acer?”

“Heh, I’m probably still about Tien’s level.” he remarks. “Especially since ol’ triclops got that Gravity Chamber at his dojo.”

“And I’ve gotten ahead of you again, dad!” Pantea yells out, both Spirit Balls now targeting you AND Yamcha.

Yamcha lets out a sigh... and then gets smacked in the back of the head with one of the attacks. “Gyah! Ow! Hey!”

As he stumbles forward a bit, you grab on to his arm and fling him down at the other Spirit Ball. It dodges him as he hits the ground and chases after you, with you flipping out of the way, heading over to Pantea. You duck under it as it flies forward, and you sense Pantea right behind you. Direct hit, she’s sent back! Hah, got- ...her? What the? She reacted like she got hit but... was that an afterimage? But it had Ki and mass...

“Nice try!” Pantea yells out in... front of you? She’s smirking confidently, and directing the Spirit Ball again.

“Okay, that’s a new trick I have to learn. Wanna exchange for it?”

She waves her finger with her free hand. “You’ll need something pretty good to match this one.”

Oooh that is COOL. But you’re not letting your guard down! Pantea keeps flinging the Spirit Ball at you, and ups the ante by charging at you as well. “Dad! Up the gravity!” she yells out as you block an elbow strike, the Spirit Ball just barely missing your head.

Yamcha gets to his feet, shaking his head. “Yeesh, kid.” Yamcha makes a quick dash to the controls. “500x!” You feel even heavier, but you don’t let up. You sidestep away from a dropkick from Pantea, and then again from the Spirit Ball. You keep your mind sharp, but let your body react reflexively from each blow you see coming, and every one you can feel coming after that.

“H-heh, think you could trade me that technique for the Shinespark?” you ask her with a cocky grin. You... you’re getting a little excited!

“Depends on if you can KEEP UP!” she roars, chopping at you. You dodge it, but then realize you have to dodge again as that was an afterimage, barely avoiding a kick to your gut... and then AGAIN dodging to avoid a spin-kick to your head from Yamcha that followed it up. He then brings out two Spirit Bits of his own, Pantea bringing up her second one again. Four Spirit Balls fly at you as the two of them keep pressing on! You won’t give up! YOU CAN DO THIS!

“RRAAAAAHHH!” the three of you yell, Yamcha and Pantea just barely avoiding a cross-counter from you as you push away, slashing away two of the Spirit Balls with your tail as you chop at the other two. You finally bolt forward as you see an opening, kicking at Yamcha. He blocks, but you use his arm to bounce yourself off and lunge at Pantea. Opening! You thrust your fist forward... and it meets her own, a shockwave rippling through the Gravity Chamber. Good thing Bulma reinforced this place. Don’t want to break anything.

Pantea... smiles. “Power up, Gohan. High as you can go... and then push even higher!”
