+Intro+

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

Great roll Lyk, we'll take it. We are about to start. Good luck.

So, last session you have decided to send in special forces for a special mission against the Orks in the southern continent of Triot.

Please roll 2d100:
+Tempestus Scions [Targets: 15/45/75]
+Combat Serfs [Targets: 50/60]

If everyone agrees, I will take Lyks roll for your Combat Serfs.

+Operation Green Fire+
Forces:
Imperial Guard: 2 platoons (64 men)
Astartes: 1 platoon (32 men)

While Ghosts of Retribution have never deployed their serfs in such combat operations, it was decided that special breach containment detachments are best suited for this type of assignment. Vadim Adyrov, Mormarkian commander of Aspera's combat forces has volunteered to join the force in person. He has received special operations training on Mormark, before being recruited to serve the Chapter.
>Milord, I don't believe that it is a sound decision to send my men into such a mission. Normally voidship armsmen have very little experience of ground combat and their special operations expertise is close to non-existent. I have managed to scrounge up a platoon of soldiers who have in past either distinguished themselves as veterans or had at least minimal special forces training. However for the future if you wish us to perform such mission, I would advise to inform us so that we can direct our training in that direction.

Meanwhile Lucas Xerant deployed his personal Stormtrooper detachment, led by Arminius Strangay, a young noble from Adamant Prime.

Infiltration was successful, Orks have not expected Imperials to dare to send their men so deep behind their lines. Soon it became clear that Ork activity on the island was not a random occurence - stormtroopers managed to take a few ork boyz as captives and tortured answers out of them. It seems that One of the Skullroarz Warbosses is coming to the island to meet with the Warboss of Hardklaws, one of the biggest unaligned Ork klanz on the planet. It is not hard to guess what is going to be discussed - Imperial incursion in the north and how to stop it.

Arminius and Vadim consulted and decided to:
1. Use the opportunity to assassinate both Warbosses
2. To sabotage the meeting by (as suggested by Astartes) spraying insulting graffiti and creating conflict between the klanz
3. Retreat and relay the information back to Astartes and the High Command (50% chance that they will not make it in time before the meeting takes place)
4. Break radio silence and relay the information to Astartes and High Command (90% chance that Orks will discover and attack special forces)
>>
>>2992535
>2. To sabotage the meeting by (as suggested by Astartes) spraying insulting graffiti and creating conflict between the klanz

When this causes confusion and anger amongst the orks, assassinate the Hardklaw warboss only, using a solid slug weapon.
With any luck the orks will assume betrayal and go to war with each other.

Thoughts?
>>
>>2992535
i think they are way too weak to kill the warbosses
and an orbital bombardment will ensure this coalition comes to fruition so why break radio silence for that
2. To sabotage the meeting by (as suggested by Astartes) spraying insulting graffiti and creating conflict between the klanz

Meanwhile, preparations are ongoing for the planned trap for the orks in the peninsula. Brethorius is extremely unhappy about not being allowed to participate in the battle.
>Chapter Master, this is going to be a battle of a decade, as a Captain of the First Company I demand to be present! Even if I have to fight as a mere gunner in a Thunderhawk, I need to be there!

How do you react to his request?
>>
>>2992560
"Very well Brethorius, but a a commander only. I want your word you won't engage in direct battle."

Y/N?

Regarding the plan itself. We should deploy in front of the peninsula on a strong point such as a large hill.

Deploy two rings of locator beacons, the first indicating the extend of astartes forces, then a healthy distance of no-man's land, then another ring indicating "it's okay to bombard outside this ring"

We should deploy 6th Company, the 1st Company elements, and the heavy vehicles to the initial deployment and hold out against the orknoids while they are bombarded from above. We should also deploy at least twenty hyperios tarantulas for Anti-Air defence.
Remember that Brethorius and Macedon get bonuses when working together.

Meanwhile the Krieg 128th should be deployed further onto the Peninsula and create defensive trench lines and artillery positions, they can support from there and hold our fall-back point. Using their artillery to shell the orks.

Once the time comes to fall back I suggest the following:

Deploy the entire 8th company via drop pod to reinforce our positions with fresh guns and allow a fall back to begin. This should catch the orks by surprise.
I'm inclined to have Chapter Master deploy with the 8th Company.

The astartes and all vehicles head onto the peninsula and into the prepared defensive lines, trenches and bunkers, while the bombardment on the orks intensifies. We can keep the main bombardment a few km away from our defensive network while our guns and the Kriegers eradicate any orks that are already too close.

A decision was reached to sabotage the Ork meeting as discussed before. False banners were raised, insults in Ork slang were written, even some stupid grots were caught and tricked into believing that they were captured by the Hardklaws.

Please roll d6 (affected by previous rolls):
1. No effect
2. Negotiations fail, status quo
3. Negotiations fail, minor hostilities begin between the klanz
4. War begins between the klanz
5. War begins between the klanz
6. Major splintering of the Ork klanz ensues, leading even to disruption within Skullroarz

However a complication occured - Arminius, a young noble seeking glory for the Strangay bloodline, decided to kill Hardklaws Warboss himself. Please roll d8:
1-3. Arminius is killed
4-5. Warboss is killed
6-7. Both are killed.
8. Arminius is captured, plan is revealed and Ork klanz join against Imperials

Psychological operation went better than expected. It soon became clear that Skullroarz Warboss who's arriving is none other than Tard Powa’ead himself. Stormtroopers and Aspera's armsmen acted quickly and decisively and their sabotage completely ruined the meeting. Arminius Strangay confronted Hardklaws Warboss upon his arrival and killed him, barely avoiding death himself. Afterwards Ork's corpse was set up in a way to appear as if he was murdered by Warboss Tard. Just as your forces manage to exfiltrate from the island, major fighting begins between the klanz that were just looking for an excuse to go at each other for a long time.

Losses: 6 stormtroopers, 13 armsmen (all bodies recovered or destroyed)

Please see below deployments and war progress as of D+56.

Second line troops on the western front should focus on exterminating that hold out of orks before they have a chance to grow. Share our experience on Varda with orks and their ability to rapidly multiply. Liberal use of artillery can't hurt.

On the eastern front the troops on both sides should focus on the coastline, fight their way along the beaches to link the two imperial forces.

What kind of airborne forces do we have? Marauder Bombers can run over them.
Has Lord General Militant Lucas Xerant invited the Knight House Macrae? They're old allies.

Macedon: +Brothers in Arms - Gains +10 to all tests when fighting with Brethorius
Hector: +Inspired - +10 to the Eighth Company's next engagement (lost once used)

+Operation Earthshatter+
Action began on Alterin Peninsula on D+57 of the Triot Liberation campaign. When your forces landed, a few things immediately became apparent - the peninsula was a great defensive point, but also a death-trap as well. The peninsula is surrounded by stormy, violent sea from all sides, making it impossible to either approach or depart by water. Also the ground proved to be almost solid rock underneath a thin layer of dirt, making it very hard to make almost any fortifications, but explosives helped you to prepare some trenches and deployable turrets were used for reinforcement.

While Orks soon noticed your presence and launched a few small, ill-fated attacks, soon news spread of a new human strongpoint. They started amassing a huge force very quickly grew into hundreds of thousands. At first they remained quiet, bidding their time, then the first serious attack came on D+66. A "small skouta warband" of ten thousand orks attack the outer line of Space Marine fortifications. By the time they reached the perimeter, heavy shelling from the Krieger 128th artillery reduced that number to less than a thousand, 1st Company Veterans made quick work of them, without suffering a single casualty. Kriegers immediately get to work using greenskin corpses to strengthen improvised ramparts.

Then come the heavy attacks that make your Astartes actually break a sweat. You suffer first casualties. Five brothers from the 6th Company and two from the 1st Company. You order orbital bombardment of the Ork positions, enough to soften them up, but not serious enough to disperse them yet.

Everything was going well, until it didn't.

He appeared in person, Tard Powa'ead. Strongest and craziest weirdboy on the planet showed up a thousand kilometres were you expected him to be. Your air support was having a field day, hitting the Orks from all angles, but then suddenly, sky erupted with a psychic storm.

[DECISION: Thunderhawks face Tard in combat or you need to reroll your Air Support roll]

Tard is already quite close to your position, orbital bombardment is not an option. If Thunderhawks don't kill him, what shall be your response? Captain Macedon wants to lead a task force to kill him. Would you give him the authorisation?
>>
>>2992994
>Tard is already quite close to your position, orbital bombardment is not an option. If Thunderhawks don't kill him, what shall be your response? Captain Macedon wants to lead a task force to kill him. Would you give him the authorisation?

I would say that Chief Librarian Trianon along with Laxenos and Vortigan should engage the weirdboy in psychic combat.

If things look to be going bad, we should make planetfall with Chapter Master, the Shadow Guard, and the 8th Company via drop pods. Chapter Master can then help in the psychic battle against Tard Powa'ead too if needed.

Thoughts?

Meanwhile on the ground Trianon with his Librarian brothers is preparing for one of the hardest psychic duels he ever had.
>This will not be easy. The beast has the strength of belief of half a million greenskins behind him. But he is primitive, untrained, unpracticed. He has neither the skill to wield his power, nor the protection of the Emperor. We shall prevail, brothers!

Please choose attack mode and roll d100 for every one of the three psykers.
> Psychic Assault (aggressive, deals direct damage)
> Support Troops (defensive, reduces casualties)
> Vampyric Assault (available only to Vortigen)
> Telekinetic Assault (available only to Trianon)
> Telepathic Assault (available only to Laxenos)

Rolling d100 for Tard Powa'ead and d100 for orkyness.

Meanwhile on the frontline, ork wartraks are getting stuck and have to be abandoned as they cannot climb over the piles of their own corpses. However 6th Company lost a whole squad, 10 brothers, in a holding action before they could fall back to the next line of defence. Kriegers, while originally intended only for artillery support, gladly join the fray. Within the hour they lose 430 men, even with Space Marines taking the brunt of the fighting, but they are very useful in supplying ammunition, removing corpses, dealing with occasional Ork breakthroughs.
