Though the waters try their best to melt your worries away, you decide to think about it a little harder.

“Maybe get her a gift?” you propose. “To show you really mean you’re sorry.” You actually have no idea if this is the case, but it probably looks good, so you tell it to him anyways.

“I, uh, I thought about that, but I don’t know what to get her,” he replies with a sigh, “I mean, I don’t know what would be ‘thoughtful’.” He sinks down and blows out air underwater, making bubbles.

“Well, what does she like?” you say.

Resurfacing, Daisuke answers, “Old, cheesy movies. Parfaits. Cats.” He thinks about it for a moment, “Those aren’t options, exactly.”

“Hmm,” you think, “What can you even get in an inn like this? I think there’s a gift shop, and I think they sell bouquets. I think,” you repeat. “It’s been a year since I’ve been in there.”

“Oh, really?” he says, getting up. You see something you’re not exactly keen on seeing but your eyes quickly dash away. “I gotta go check! Thanks, Ryuuta!” Quickly, he puts a towel around his waist and quickly heads out.

The hot spring’s too nice to get out.

You sit there for a moment, leaning back against the rocks and shutting your eyelids. Ah, nice and peaceful. Some other students are quietly muttering amongst themselves, but you take the time to relax.

As if the spirit of the hot springs spoke to you, a thought courses through your mind and your eyes slam wide open.

You can’t relax, not here, not now! You need to go after him because for some inexplicable reason, you think if you left him alone, he’d definitely screw something up; he’s just that type of person. Ripping yourself out of your very comfortable position, you dry and dress yourself before storming down two hallways and into the gift shop.

Daisuke, exactly where you expect him to be, notices you and calls you over. As you do so, he hands you a bouquet. He tells you, “It’s not real.”

Glancing down, you confirm that it is, in fact, not the real deal but is plastic instead. “Huh, guess I remembered wrong.”

He opens his mouth as if to say something, reconsiders, and then says something anyways, “I should go out; I saw these flowers! They’re all over the trails!”

“Daisuke, it’s the middle of the night.”

“You don’t have to come with me if you don’t want to. I have a flashlight. I won’t get lost,” he tries to reassure you.

“Or, you can find something else here. How about a charm?” you ask, pointing to the rows of them in the back.

Shaking his head, he replies, “That won’t do. She doesn’t care about that sort of thing.”

Desperate, you tell him, “Or, you can try the event.” The annual ping pong competition. “You could win the prize for her.”

“Oh, that!” he says, “Oh, but I’m not sure if I can win it. There’s some tough competition, you know.”

You watch as he weighs his options.

“Then, what about these flowers?” he asks, taking them back.

“They look really cheap, just pick a charm that sort of relates,” you say, “So that you can say you put some thought into it.” You jokingly add, “Like, a charm that protects against boyfriends that leave them to die.”

He snorts. “If I find one,” he says, looking through them and then pauses. Then, he says to you, “Wait, that might work! You’re a genius!”

“Um... thanks?” you reply. You watch as he takes one and runs off to the cashier, and before he leaves, you tell him good luck before walking out.

You nod, telling yourself a job well done. He didn’t sneak out, get lost, and fall unconscious, which is a complete victory for you honestly. You’re sure he’ll be fine. Probably.

Choosing to believe that he knows how to sweet talk his way out of any trouble, you force those thoughts out of your head.

Sorry guys, I think I should stop for a bit and take a break. My output is getting really, really poor. Nothing's coming out. I don't think anyone really wants to sit through hours where I barely write or draw anything. I've been running on fumes for a while now, but I forced myself to run anyways. Classes have been stressing me out completely, so I think I'm going to take a week or two off. I just need a bit of time to recharge.

Sorry again, and thanks for playing. I'll leave the vote open until the thread dies, and when I'm back, I'll continue it with 7.5. If there's a tie, I'll just flip a coin.
