/qst/ - Quests

You are 999, a blobby mass of joy and happiness for all! And you are currently helping Blackwood in directing a massive device through temporal space on your way to meeting a friend.

>Trait- Fearless (B++): You do not fear the darkness or anything within it. Though you might end up somewhat unnerved.
>Trait- Arcadian Versed (C++): You now understand more of the land of Arcadia and its masters than most would at first suspect. Take that, Foundation!
>Trait- Happy Dancer (C++): You tend to dance when you're really happy or when you've succeeded at a great task. You still aren't all that good at it, but you've become kinda passable now!
>Trait- Selfless (A): You care far more about the feelings of your friends and allies than you do your own, and will gladly sacrifice your own happiness for them (You have reserves anyhow).
>Trait- Scholar of Realms (F-): You understand how some of the realms of this new land function, as well as basic summoning work to call upon thier denizens. Of course, only in the simplest possible form of such.
>Fear of the Black King (??): You have seen true evil and it has seen you in turn. Even the sanctity of your own mind has been tainted, and your dreams become nightmares

Skills
>Purifying Touch (B): Your very touch can set truly evil beings ablaze in purifying white flames. Truly, hugs are no laughing matter with you
>Song Of Fury (E+): Through the power of song, you can call up a storm of pure melting power to descend upon your foes and teach them their follies.
>Rain-Call (F+): You may summon a permanent drizzling of rain (complete with accompanying thunderstorm) in any area that you currently reside within, disregarding any dimensional blockages or other forms of preventative measure. You're getting better at calling down the rain in difficult situations, but it's not winning any talent shows any time soon.
>Snow-Storm (F++): You can spontaneously generate a freezing effect capable of completely encasing an entire area in a layer of permafrost. Requires the use of a Dream Trinket or another active trinket. Your usage of this skill has grown your ability to manipulate it. You can make ice-slides now!
>Voice Of Pain (E-): Your very voice can be a weapon against some of your foes. Though it could use some more training behind it
>>
>>2984375
Active Trinkets/Other Items
>Dream Trinket: A small odd thing given to you by a wounded being within a dream of a festering city. Grants you the ability to cast Snow-Storm and invert local physical forces. You will not fail again
>Toy replica of the Shaded Palace: a miniature version of Vuindred's own Palace. Perfectly huggable, but its definitely not the real deal.
>>Bag of Treats: Sweet enough to munch on, and pleasant enough to leave you feeling contented afterwards. May or may not be enchanted to a degree.
>Summoning Tips, By Vuindred The Black: Exaclty what it says on the cover. Vuindred gave you this for whatever reason, seemingly feeling it relevant reading for you. You should thank him when you next get the chance.

Friends
>Vuindred the Black: The Archmage who lords over the Shaded Palace. Doesn't seem to like you all that much. Which is okay, because you really like him!
>Wisps/Hursih: Strange manifestations of spiritual energy. Are actually really nice, and even gave you a small tour of the Palace. You can't really tell them apart though.
>Dr Spanko: The greatesteth Doctor in the fourth crackledoodle! Cack! NeinNeinNein is much gratitudes for friendiest goldojellodip on the swimming pole!
>Lord Theodore Thomas Blackwood: Gentleman explorer, dashing hero and collector of the strange. One of the finest companions you could ever ask for, Foundation or otherwise

Unknowns
>The Mysterious Stranger: A man in a red suit stuck(?) in a wheelchair who saved you following an incident in an Arcadian Realm. Seems friendly enough, but he gives you an odd feeling.

Enemies
>The Black King: An embodiment of purest evil, absolute and unending. Whilst you wish to never see such vileness for the rest of your existence, you know all too well that It has noticed you, and has likely turned in rapt attention to you.

Previously on 999 Quest:

You and Spanko had breached the walls of a writhing and twisting city of gold, and had come to find it corrupted and warped, filled with nightmarish creatures and constructs obeying the will of the true evil at the city's heart. Together with Spanko and Blackwood, you had successfully managed to drive back the manifestation of the Black King before it could fully enter the city, but you fear as though you had only delayed something inevitable.

Nevertheless, you had succeeded alongside your friends, and had received the artifact that your friend, Vuindred the Black, had demanded of you.

Currently, you sit atop a large ledge next to an even larger obelisk, in front of a massive array of alchemical configurations and spellwork that Lord Blackwood is directing , as the great thaumaturgic engine you had managed to successfully capture streams through a wave of cosmic energy en route to the Shaded Palace. You still have some time to go before you reach though, so you can do quite a few things before landing.

What do you plan to do to kill time?

>Inquire on what Blackwood did while we and Spanko were away and more importantly how did he knew we were after that artifact. Lucky guess?
"Blorble? [How did you figure out that I was after that artifact, sir?]" you inquire to the gentleman explorer "[And what were you doing whilst Spanko and I were away?]"

"It was fairly simple to figure out, my lad. You moved with a purpose and precision you are not typically known for unless something of true importance gas come up. And the magic I felt upon you was quite different from what you normally radiate, though somewhat obscured. It merely came down to putting the dots together and discerning your ultimate goal." Blackwood patiently explains, all whilst calmly reconfiguring the mystical array he has set up to direct the great device you currently travel upon.

"And as for your second question, I focused myself on disabling some of that wretched place's defenses as well as finding out about the threat we were faced with. Finding and removing the horrid corpus of the corrupted Lord of that domain was a means to complete both parts of that goal."

>See if you can direct your power and ''will'' your mass to increase
>See if you can make a piece of your mass to act on its own and do your commands (clones!)
You decide to try and experiment to see how well you can change and adapt your form on the fly. Deciding to make the attempt at changing your overall mass and size, you begin to "will" your form to grow.

Nothing seems to happen for a few minutes, even with you tightly closing your eyes and focusing solely on spreading power throughout your form, but as you open them, you come to realize just how big you've gotten, almost becoming as tall as one of the obelisks surrounding you.

Looking down, you can see the form of Blackwood focusing on his array and as you draw your eyes back up, you can even make out the frame of Spanko seated on one of the obelisks in a state of apparent rest. Neither seem to notice your sudden size change, or rather, don't care to make comments on it.
>Skill "Mass Builder" (D-) has been realized: You can grow your form to a great degree to dwarf a good many things, but you certainly don't have much control over it right now.

Deciding to continue, you try to split off a portion of yourself and directvit, with some rather mixed results. It comes off and begins to move easily enough, but its an active and taxing focus to get it to do even that. And it doesn't seem like you can make the piece act much beyond simple movements, and if it moves too far from your main mass, it inevitably ceases all functions and forces you to re-absorb it. Though it shows potential to become something more in the future, it currently doesn't seem to be able to do much right now.
>a Skill has the possibility of attaining realization in the future, with some pushing

It's as you attempt to divide and command portions of yourself that you get the psychic announcement from Blackwood; "We'll be approaching our destination in a few minutes. Though we might experience some 'turbulence' before then. I'd advise you prepare yourselves."

>>
>>2984576
>Use the rest of our time to study the thaumaturgic structure (I remember we are close to realizing a skill in this category)
You take the last few minutes before you reach the Shaded Palace to analyze the thaumaturgic device itself, mostly through its obelisks. It seems to be siphoning off latent cosmic energy, both from whatever environment it currently resides within and from the beings who interact with it to some degree, and proceeds to funnel it through its surface and into the obelisks who absorb the raw energy and refine it into the more structured form of miraclework you commonly observe. A truly marvelous piece of work all said, and you've barely even begun to pry into its deeper secrets yet!

...a you also have no idea how you got all that form just a few minutes worth of analysis. It's kinda frightening actually.
>Trait "Student Of Miracles" (F+) has been realized: Your understanding of what goes into the construction and development of thaumaturgic technologies has grown. Now you just have to keep it from getting to your head.

The ground seems to to lurch somewhat as you deal with your confusion over your own sudden grasp of complex mystic theory, and you start toppling over somewhat. Looking over, you see Blackwood moving with immense speed across his mystic configurations as the tunnel of energy around you lights up with arcs of violent energy, and the churning whorl of cosmic power grows yet more chaotic.

"Here's that turbulence I had warned about! Anchor yourself my lad!" Blackwood shouts out against the raging cacophony of energy.

As the ground shudders and heaves, you spread your form out such that you easily stick to the ground and keep from bouncing about, though you can't say the same for Blackwood. He holds up quite admirably, but steadily begins to lose his footing and risks falling away from you.

With a snap, you extend a gooey tendril to grab him and hold him in place, bringing him slightly closer to you as you do so.

"999, my boy, I must thank you! I've already designated the landing position for us! We merely need to secure ourselves and hold on until then!" Blackwood shouts out to you, pointing up towards the largest obelisk, which beams with a pure white light. Right. Just hold on a bit. You can do that.

You feel the familiar aura of the Shaded Palace as the massive device continues to speed and rock and turn. You can only hope you aren't all splattered on the landing.

You and Blackwood hold onto the ground of the massive construct as it rockets forward, moving at speeds frankly incomprehensible to most. The churning chaos around you begins to dim and darken and fade, and instead you begin to hear the downpour of unending rain, and the explosive booming of thunderstorms all around.

You are here. The Shaded Palace, domain of the Archmage known as Vuindred the Black.

Without slowing down, the giant device hurls through the rain and thunder and darkness, and crashes itself into the ground of the heavily darkened realm, eliciting a mighty boom of noise as it tears into the earth and continues on for quite some time. Conveniently landing you almost directly in front of the Palace proper as it ceases movement.

With a single grin, you place Blackwood somewhere safe, and leap from the structure, landing on the ground before the Palace, and then quickly moving towards the door.

Triumphantly marching to it, you push it open with but a single limb and enter inside. And as you do so, you announce to all within;

"BLORBLE!!", your voice booms. Powerful enough to shake the very earth itself, quite literally.

You take in the sight before you, watching an immense gathering of various spirits, all of which are looking at you in a merger between surprise and bewilderment. And the crowd soon parts in two, as Vuindred himself comes before you, eyesockets blazing.

"...I so do hope that you have a proper explanation for this creature. Or else I will have to reconsider your entire continued existence."

>Salute Vuindred then take his artifact and hold it up high towards him.
>Do a victory dance while holding the artifact
You salute the ancient (and fuming) Archmage, before taking out the artifact, the Arcadian Ring, and presenting it to him, its heart throbbing and pulsing with ancient power. Even doing a little dance to punctuate it, laughing and bobbing up and down all the while.

You don't hear anything for a moment, aside from the instant sputtering out of Vuindred's eye-lihhts. And then the crowd of spirits break out into hushed whispers and speculation (and some not so hushed).

"How in the Supernal did that little thing-?"

"Impossible. Absolutely, 100%, completely and truly, impossible-"

"Impressive beyond all words, little dancing thing-"

"WHAT ARE YOUR SECRETS-"

"Your Name. Tell us your Name right now-"

"Enough." Vuindred whispers, tone hushed, barely above a whisper. And the gathering of spirits stills utterly. Awaiting the next words of their master.

"...I had watched you for some time, beast. When I first sent you into the Arcadian realms, up until you completely disappeared from my detection. And all that time I had thought you only something to state a mere curiosity, so when you vanished from my detection, I thought little of it and branded you as another fluke of the cosmos." the ancient lord speaks, more quiet and dim than you have ever heard him before.

"But now I might just have to re-evaluate my initial assessment of you entirely."

Vuindred observes you impassovley, whilst you begin spreading your form outwards to grab and hold all of the gathered spirits (And the skeletal Archmage himself) in a massive hug.

You don't really keep track of how far you bother to spread though, and simply decide to bask in the feeling of having so many friends (and finally getting to technically hug the Palace itself).

At least until Blackwood and Spanko kick down the doors, and basically storm in. Guns, spells, and wings rearing for a serious bruising. Vuindred waves them a little hello with a single non-hugged skeletal arm.

"Blorble-brob-blorb! [Blackwood, Spanko, these are my friends! Relax!]" you worble out to your two friends as they continue to stare up at the Archmage and to his concert of spirits, never letting their guards down.

"Apologies, my boy." Blackwood responds, as he slowly begins to sheath his weaponry. "I am just more than a bit on edge this day. Our prior encounters haven't been all that pleasant overall. Isnt that so, Spanko?"

"Perhaps appleseeds willest helpforth on the tidepoles, Blackwood-sama? Cack!" the good Doctor replies, seeming to have recovered his early jolliness.

Vuindred and his spirits just stare, with Vuindred have raised a single bony hand to where his chin would be, lights dancing within his skull.

You focus on yourself, and begin to call on energy from within. Lights dance within your form, and flit about the insides of your being.

"What in the name of Truth are you doing?" Vuindred asks, sounding genuinely puzzled.

Soon enough, your form becomes alight with glowing internal sparks, which float and dart about you, moving in utterly random patterns. Several of the crowding spirits actually lean in closer behind Vuindred to see what you've done.

"...For the love of." Vuindred clutches his face, whilst several spirits you recognize as your old Wisp friends begin to circle around you, expressing their joy at your return.

"999, my boy, you continue to impress and befuddle in every action." Blackwood chucklesvout, Spanko making loud cacking sounds himself. "But I believe we have more pressing matters?" the gentleman adventurer waves up to Vuindred.

"Tell us what you know of the Black King."

And with those words, the entire room goes dead silent.

Vuindred looks at you, all three of you, and then heaves a deep sigh, one that speaks of a very old and very tired being.

>follow Vuindred.
You decide to follow Vuindred and to learn more about the subject brought up. Though you shudder in utter revulsion whenever *that* name is brought up.

"The entity you spoke of....is a thing of immense power." Vuindred begins to explain as you walk. "I know not its true origins, or even what it actually even *is* in the end. It defies the nature of all Mysteries I have ever come across in any fashion, though I do have my theories."

"The first is that it is an outsider to our known Tellurian entirely. Whilst that might also hold true for you creatures, I suspect this thing has even deeper roots away from what we consider 'natural'. I suspect that it comes from a place utterly alien and unfathomable to the minds of even we Archmasters. Or perhaps, it might even *be* that place. With what we see of it just being mere illusion of being, an extrusion of it being forced into our reality."

"My second theory is that it is something that is outside, and yet within Truth. The form we see has something to it that I cannot place, and yet is all too familiar, which has led me to think that it has perhaps garbled itself in something approaching the Truth in order to successfully operate here. But the bulk of it, the overall whole of this blighted force, exists elsewhere. Something acting both within and without metaphysical space, a pure impossibility in every sense."

"And as for my third..." Vuindred trails off as you continue to move, voice drawing quiet as the doors to the Palace's library draw close now.

>Curious and dramatic warbling.
You begin to loudly and curiously blorble at your friend, eventually deciding to tune it such that it steadily builds up into an ominous hum. Blackwood and Spanko seem bemused, whilst Vuindred merely lets out a sigh.

"Yes, yes. You're 'adorable', creature. Now be silent." the Archmage grumbles. "Now where was I? Ah yes, my third theory regarding that atrocity." You approach the library doors, silence falling upon you again for a time as they open up at the presence of their master.

"My third theory is that this thing isn't 'forcing itself in' at all, nor is it otherwise masking itself from reality as a whole to prevent itself from being rejected. My belief here is that it has always been here, that it has always been in every space and every point. Perhaps even during the Time Before, or even at some utterly unknown period before even that, as impossible as that sounds given the raw metaphysical implications of it."

"If such is the case, then this thing would be truly omnipresent." Vuindred proceeds to float through the doorway, which opens into n immense space, positively full to bursting with books of all shapes and sizes. "Everywhere and everywhen, a single existence spread out into every level of existence, both physical and abstract. It would be both Fallen, Supernal, and Other all at once, with no difference between any such state from its perspective." Vuindred moves over to a towering stack of books, and pulls out one rather bulky one, completely black from cover to cover.

"If we assume this to be the case, then this thing would be utterly unassailable, unopposable. Whatever form it takes would be just an attempt to face the merest sliver of something that is everywhere. A truly unbeatable foe..."

"That is, if we could not keep it in place." and here, something seeps into the ancient Archmage's voice, almost akin to smug superiority of a form. A major change from his original sullen disposition. "I believe that this aberration can be bound within the perceptions of life. That it MUST conform to a single maniestation so long as it is trapped in what another being perceives it in at any given moment. But only so long as that perception is heldvof it, otherwise it returns to its original state of pure endlessness." He proceeds to thrust the black book to you all, Blackwood and yourself easily catching it as it comes down.

"That book is composed entirely out of the immense binding rites, the spells woven into its very pages. I do not expect any of you to go hunting for the Black King at all, for that would be amongst the most horrid of fates, but I expect you to be ready in the event that you must ever face face something of its caliber. Consider this a 'gift' in such a sense."

>Unless...the purifying fire is a potent force. Could we imbue a small amount of our jelly with Purifying Flame, then separate it from the whole without it actually losing the associated properties? That seems like it'd be a good gift.
"BLORBLE!!" you shout up at Vuindred, who seems more than a bit baffled at your excitement, before you start to light a portion of yourself with your Purifiyng Flame, sending ripples of white flame moving through it. An act which seems to shock both Blackwood and Spanko, and seems to cause Vuindred to become somewhat taken aback himself.

"My boy, what are you doing-" Blackwood starts, right before you sever the flaming piece form yourself, begin to hold it a bit, and then hand it over to Vuindred.

"What is this?..." Vuindred inquires, looking at what you've now given him. Your flames have melted your flesh into a pure white shining crystal beating with internal flames. As Vuindred holds it, you all watch in astonishment as roses and other flowers sprout out from it, those same white flames beating within them.

Just what DID you make here? And will it count as a proper gift?

Vuindred observes the crystal in his hand, which continues to glow and pulse and grow new plant life, before encasing it in a bubble of energy.

"I do not know what this is, creature. But I thank you nevertheless." Vuindred replies, something foreign slipping into his normally detached and cold voice.

"But enough dawdling! Now is the time for preparations!"

With but a snap of his bony fingers, space warps and shifts, and you all find yourselves no longer in a library, but a vast armoury, filled to the brim with mystical tools and weapons. To the point that it's almost overwhelming to your senses.

>A rather particular blorble that represents an awe and measure of respect appropriate for such a wide array of Dakka and Dakka Accessories.
"Blorble! Blorb-blorb!" You shout, managing to express honest wonder and appreciation for all of the raw weaponry on display. Blackwood let's out a gruff 'harumph' whilst Spanko shouts out something like "Great lemons!", before flitting about to inspect all of the various tools on display.

"Yes, yes. I see that you are all in awe of my superior arsenal!" Vuindred boasts, clearly taking great pride in his assortment of destructive tools. " Now then, feel free to sample some of my fine tools at your leisure. You must be prepared for your journey into the Fallen after all!"

"The 'Fallen'?" Blackwood questions, clearly desiring to learn more. "And what may that be, my good sir?"

Yeah, you never did learn what a lot of the terms Vuindred easily uses actually mean, and this might be a nice opportunity to do so.

"So you actually have a brain in that mass of goo, then?" Vuindred sharks at you, though it seems to be somewhat less lined with insult than usual. "But yes, the Fallen is the physical world as you may know it. But not only that. It is everything that is not Truth, not of the Realms Supernal nor of the Abyss."

"In a perfect world, there would be no Fallen. And instead, all would be Awoken and fully knowing of the Truth and what it entails. But there is no such thing as a perfect world. Not since the Iron Seals claimed dominion over the Supernal, shattered the Ladder and enforced the blasphemous Lie across all creation, now and forevermore..."

Here, you watch as Vuindred slumps, voice going quiet and still once more. For the first time since you've met him, he actually looks...broken.

You move over to the Archmage, who has yet to rise from his slump, and reach out with your limbs in a hug. Vuindred does not react in the slightest.

As you pull him close, you feel something resonate within you, something reaching out to connect with the despairing Archmage. Pressing into him deeper, you try to force a connection between the both of you. Friends should not be slumped in gloom like this, and you'll do whatever it takes to heal them!

As you hug Vuindred, a light spreads out, and swallows you entirely. You feel your perception fade and shift for but a moment, before things reorient themselves, and you find yourself somewhere else.

All around you, you can see things moving in an aurora of chaos, your body floating with ease in a void of pure Abstraction. Above you, you can feel great presences shifting and shimmering and boiling and freezing beyond the weight of the twisting chaos.

They feel awful. Like all the awful thing so f the world made manifest, and shining their baleful lights upon you like a billion celestial forms made out of purest hatred and scorn.

You reach out and you hug some of the things floating about in that churning chaos. Some flock towards you en masse, others flee your touch, and others hiss and burn, and bubble the instant you come into contact with them. You can almost feel those vast things beyond shudder and ripple in something approaching annoyance, before without any warning, tendrils of corruptive light begin to skewer themselves downwards, attempting to impale you entirely.

It seems almost unconscious, but there is a vaguely malevolent will behind the actions here, as you watch one of the skewering bands of light unfurl into a thousand, then tens of thousands of writhing feelers and hands that spread out and reach for you.

And so you oppose them.

With a brilliant and blinding shock of light, the limbs shudder within you, before burning up and boiling away, fading upwards back towards the pulsating masses of what you correctly realize to be raw Tyranny far far 'above'.

You reach out towards the writhing, shining darkness, as it surges downwards towards you, tearing and shrieking as it does so. Twelve Seals of Tyranny blazing in the void to snuff out all light. You reach out with love. They reach out with hate.

The void explodes outwards in a single moment, all as your two opposing powers clash with each other to define what truly is. Everything unfolds and expands, before falling back in upon itself at a singular point. And then it all cracks apart, shattering like glass.

For amoment, you fall. You fall silently, whilst watching the shining shards of the Twelve Seals plummet screaming far far far down below. Into a shimmering hateful sea that almost seems to be rising up to cradle you in that same embrace.

You can hear it whispering even now. Reaching with long arms for you.

You reach out towards that sea of bubbling and festering blackness, even as it reaches out towards you itself. After a few minutes, your essence touches its and you offer to share your embrace with it, bringing only love and warmth with you. but-

Pain. True pain racks you. Pushing into you and finding purchase, like a thousand lighting knives of absolute unbeing. The void screams at you in a trillion voices, and surges forward to consume you.

Scrambling upwards, you force yourself away from that see of what you now recognize as purest oblivion, but not before you see It.

From all around you, throughout the all-encompassing ocean of nothingness, It rises. Slowly and steadily, the Endless seen of emptiness breaks away, and you catch a glimpse, a scant fragment of the true horror rising beneath. Something truly beyond even the Twelve Seals which had plummeted desperately screaming into that cosmic wound.

Beneath you, The Gate rises. And sees you.

It does not take long before you slip into a deep and merciful unconsciousness.

You open your eyes slowly, weakly. Judging by the over all 'feeling' of the room, you can tell that you're still in the armory within the Palace. Blinking weakly, you look up to see a shadowed figure hovering over you, seeming jittery.

"Cack! Up on top of the morning post-it-note! Cack!" the figure shouts before darting away. Though your vision is steadily returning, you certainly wouldn't need it to tell that that was Spanko. He's far too bubbly and obvious for that.

"Hmm?" another figure voices as you sit up, the Presence of Blackwood making itself known. "Aha! 999, my lad, good to see that you're still with us. I was just about to make the trip after you myself, but it seems that you've returned successfully. And you brought our good host back along with you."

As you reach out to envelop envelop the now-returned Spanko in a hug whilst he bounced around you once more, you tilt the mass of your head. "Our good host?" What does he mean-

It surges back to you in a crashing wave, and you leap up, startling Spanko out of your grasp. Vuindred! Is he alright.

"BLORBLE!!" you cry out, looking around for him in a panic.

"Cease your crying, bothersome creature. I am fine." an all too familiar voice grunts out. "Or at least, as much as I can be following...that."

>HUGS FOR THE VUINDRED!
>Maximum worry! All of the concern! 'tis a most joyous day that we have managed to, hopefully, provide some relief from the entity which plagued him!
You rush forward and grip Vuindred in a very tight embrace, descending into a slew of questions and concerned cries over his state, which ends up turning into a tide of unintelligible babble as you pour out all your worry for the old Archmage.

"Cease your crying, creature." He tells you, but does not remove you from his form immediately, instead settling on loosening the tightness of your hug some. "We have no more time to waste on pleasantries. Even now, I can feel fit this place has been tainted. Something powerful has breached the defenses of the Shaded Palace and has worked its way in. Something overflowing with the taint of the Abyss. Even now, the tendrils it held within my mind, severed though they are now, poison and tear at me. My hastily-erected defenses are falling short even as we speak."

"Was this a result of our questioning regarding the Black King?" Blackwood inquires, pressing for what information he can with what time you have left.

"Of that there can be no doubt. Something dark is working in tandem with the King, something with power vastly eclipsing my own." Vuindred replies, eyes crackling with arcane power. "I only have time to gift you with single weapons and send you to the Fallen immediately afterwards."

"Now choose!"

You move over to the blade embedded in stone with the shining golden hilt, and as you approach it seems almost like the jewel is looking right at you. Calling you to it. You move behind the pedestal of stone it is lodged within, and then you grip it, pulling at it with all that you have.

As you pull, you feel the Blade slowly but surely loosen. And with a final push, that swells your soul with energy, you finally pull it out fully, the metal sliding easily across the rock. And as you pull it free, you feel compelled to raise the Blade skyward, getting it up towards the obscured heavens.

...That's odd. Why do you feel so different now? Looking over at your friends, you can see they're just standing completely still, with clearly baffled and confused looks on their faces. With some rather intense deliberation though (which is rather telling given who he is), Spanko raises a wing and points beside you. You turn around-

"Blorble-blor." You give your other "selves" an incredulous expression, before turning to Vuindred and giving him a flat look.

"[Yeah. I agree with the orange snot-wad here. What the fuck is going on?]" Yeah, you agree with the other guy! Wait? 'Other guy's?

You turn and see that the blue version of yourself has stepped up, expression clearly annoyed by everything thus far. He glares at you. You glare back. The other two versions of yourself just seem to be looking around right now, mostly focusing on themselves and the space around them.

"Creature, I have no possible idea as to how this could've happened. In fact, I do not even remotely recognize the weapon you now hold. It is utterly alien to me, in more ways than one." Vuindred explains, looking between all three of you. "But perhaps the most frightening thing is that I could understand your blue counterpart perfectly, with no need for arcane manipulation."

"We did as well, my lad. Or is it my lads, now?" Blackwood chips in, with both him and Spanko having drawn their own weapons (some manner of rapier and a great axe, respectively) and now brandish them towards your counterparts.

"[Well of course I can fucking speak. I'm not a fucking idiot like this grease ball here.]" your blue counterpart growls out, and gestures a pseudopod towards you. Well, isn't he pleasant. "[Now tell me what the fuck is going on here already.]"

Managing to compose yourself and *not* attack the azure coloured version of yourself (which already brings its own slew of unhealthy memories), you instead choose to heave a simple sigh, and rest the sword on the ground.

"Blorble-worble [Sir Blackwood, can you inspect it, please? But don't touch it.]" you speak to your explorer friend, who nods at you and begins to inspect the weapon which caused this, whilst Spanko keeps his axe trained on your opposite, who is animatedly growling in rage.

Ignoring your much angrier counterpart, you move on over to the other two, one red and the other purple. Choosing to start with the red one first, you brace yourself for another slew of curses and frothing rage.

"[Aa-YIPE!!]" he shouts, voice soaring several octaves as you tap him on the back, he jumps around and faces you. "[Aa-h-hah, hi! You really shouldn't be sneaking up on people like that you know? It's rude. And kinda scary...]"

>Sorry about that buddy. Say where are you from? What's the last thing you remember before coming here?
"[Well, I remember pulling out this sword and all. And I also remember that fight against that...THING in that city that one time.]" He visibly shudders at the recollection, and you can't say that you blame him. "[I basically remember everything that I-or I guess, we now-have gone through. Same for the others.]"

"[Just don't mind Blue. He's always like that. It's just his way of interacting with people. He genuinely means nothing by it.]"

>Repeat the same questions with the purple one.
You walk on over to the purple one and begin to ask him the same questions, but he interrupts you.

"[I am not deaf, Orange. I heard you and Red perfectly. And yes, I do indeed retain all of our memories. I've experienced everything that you have up until this point, though judging by what I've observed thus far, I've inherited most of our analytical and scientifically-minded aspects.]" your purple counterpart mouths out, before puffing out somewhat. ["As well as a fair deal of our pride, though I suspect Blue took a bigger chunk of that. It's just outshone by his never-ending anger at the world and everything around him. Nevertheless, by my current assessment of the situation, we likely do not have long before whatever has assailed this domain descends upon this local demesne. We possibly have only mere minutes before we are swarmed.]"

"[Hmph, let them come.]" Blue grunts, swinging his own sword about. "[I can take 'em.]"

You reach out with a pseudopod, then proceed to smack Blue upside the empty mass of jell he claims as being his head. Ignoeing his angry rants and immense cursing, you choose to focus on getting out of this place.

>Ask Vuindred if he's going to teleport all four of us plus Spanko and Blackwood to the Fallen. Or if he wants us to stay behind and help defend the Shaded Palace.
"The approaching threat is much too great, even for you, creature." Vuindred replies, having now turned his attention to a steadily pooling darkrness near the front portion of the armory, shimmering and writhing like that endless black ocean you saw. "Far as I can tell, it is some apsect of the Abyss, or perhaps worse, that has breached my defenses. Perhaps one of the Black Draogns of the 10 Anti-Arcana even. I have doubts as to how long I can hold it off, but I know that I can open a doorway to the Fallen for all of you. I just need some time..."

The darkrness odes not wait however, and from it surges forth a swarm of fractal monstrosities, buzzing and flitting about like a host of abstract locusts.

>While Vuindred prepares to teleport us, attack the approaching monsters with our Purifying Touch
You raise your arm, but before you can even do anything, Blue has already rushed forward and starts cutting into the horde of swarming entities with his own sword, which flashes with power, sending the nightmarish tide of chittering abominations screeching backwards, each slash leaving more and more of their number blazing wrecks along the ground. Red follows behind him, also swinging at some of the creatures that managed to slip past Blue, but near ineffecutally. His body shakes with clear nervousness at times, and he's only barely keeping himself from getting mauled.

Purple sees this, and instead of going in swinging, chooses to instead cast a spell (which is immensely surprising for both you and Blackwood, for similar reasons). A pinprick of flame alights upon his raised arm, and suddenly a wave of butterfly-shaped purifying energy flies down the path and strikes at the darkness, burning and pushing back much of the swarm. Blackwood and Spanko proceed to charge in, their own weapons flaring for combat, and hold back a sudden push from the dark chaos that sends Blue and Purple flailing backwards.

You look at your own sword, the indistinct gem in its center almost questioning in its silence, before you once more raise your arm and begin to channel power. As the swarm surges over Blackwood and Spanko, you shout;

"BLOOOOORBAAAAAL!!", and your purifying power rockets down the pathway, burning away the tide, and striking right into the center of the approaching darkness, eliciting a shuddering groan from all around you. You lower oyur arm, and pant, and can only hope you bought some decent time.

"Creature, the gateway is opening!" you suddenly hear Vuindred shout, and you indeed see a similar portal of roving energy opening up before you as it had the few other times you experienced cross-dimensional travel. "Gather your allies and plunge thorugh it! I can only hold it in this state for so long!"

>Grab the Blue and Red clones, yell for Spanko and Blackwood, and trust Purple to make it through since he seems the only one competent enough for a tactical retreat. Then proceed with a tactical retreat.
Grabbing onto your Blue and Red selves with several tentacles (which elicits another series of profanities from Blue and a 'squeak' from Red), you yell out for Blackwood and Spanko to disengage and follow you, with both doing a final combined strike at the ravening darkness, before leaping forward to meet you at the mouth of the gateway.

You turn to Purple, and you meet his eyes with a simple nod, before turning towards the now fully opened portal. With a single push of force, you leap off the ground with the still-cursing Blue and the frightened Red, followed closely behind by Spanko and Blackwood.

As you enter that shining expanse, you turn your gaze back at the mouth of it, just enough to see the darkness rushing forward into the armory, peeling open like a horrid G̵̺̻̜̬͓͟a̶̼͙͇͝͞t̢̺̜̝̮͓̗͍̹͍͜͟é̶̤̯̖̼̪̘͓͙̭̹͕͎͕͘̕ and rushing to swallow Vuindred and Purple whole. Though you are almost certain that you saw a streak of color leap into the churning tides of the portal before then, along with a flash of arcane light, but you're already too far away to tell now.

Turning back to face forwards, ignoring Blue's thrashing and ranting, you look at the sword you now wield and you can't help but wonder as to where it will lead you. And if it's leading you to your own salvation...Or to ruin.

Before long, the shimmering expanse around you increases in its rhythmic churning, and you feel genuine warmth flowing over you. It doesn't take much longer before there is a point of light expanding to hold your view, and you push into it.

Whatever happens next, you're sure you can handle it. No matter what it is.

>>3006435

>>
>>3006445
In a manner of speaking. It was actually a book on the Emerald Art, the Nobilis-styling of Alchemy, founded by the Hermes Trismegistus.

>>3006447
The Tome would've actually caused more problems then good, if that's what you want to know. It holds immense power, but not only would that've taken a good couple years (if not decades) to learn, you'd likely also be hunted down by various Nobles for being an undocumented/rogue Botanist, along with drawing the attention of even more unpleasant things.

The Four Sword was probably both the most practical as well as most useful amongst the options presented.
>>
>>3006452
Can you tell us what the sword actually DID? Or is that a spoiler? The clones seem to know eachother, but we don't and furthermore they have 999's (I'd like to get a real name/title at some point preferably something "cosmic" sounding like Black king or Sevenfold destroyers) memories up to the point he picked up the sword. So did the sword take 999s from parraler worlds and brought them here? Because that would beg a question. Did Scarlet King make more 999s?
Best theory I have right now is that the sword took repressed aspects of 999's personality and turned them into clones (but without 999's true potential), this would explain why we felt different after taking the sword and how they have our memories.

Yeah I think it took 3 alternative versions of 999 from a parallel universe and brought them all together to our own universe.
>>
>>3006467
>>3006469
>Can you tell us what the sword actually DID?
The Four Sword took portions of 999's personality (his Anger, his Empathy/Fear, His Knowledge/Pride) and gave them their own personalities and physical forms to interact with the world. They have all/most of your abilities, but the overall power of each has been semi-divided between them, and they spec into certain things more than others (like Blue and Purple favoring physical and magical attacks, respectively). They share all of your memories and exleriences because they ARE you, essentially.

>Sleepers cannot fathom the supernal truth and the very act of supernal magic before their eyes makes them flinch back in pain and forget these occurrences moments later
So I wonder what this means for us, how will WoD humans react to us? And now I wonder how they react to other supernaturals besides the mages. Anyway getting ourselves a human disguise is definetely one of our priorities
>>
>>3012633

Yeah, the Foundation definitely knows that we're missing by now, and a Containment Breach is a big fucking deal. So they're definitely looking hard for us.

I wonder how they will classify us if they manage to re-contain us. 999 will probably become Keter because of all the crazy powers we have now.

There's also the fact that we split in 4, so the Foundation will classify us as SCP-999-1, SCP-999-2 and so on.
>>
>>3013913
Well let's let that happen shall we? Besides Vuindred sent us to WoD not SCP earth (I think) so unless the Foundation decided to set up in WoD we won't be dealing with them

Although now I'm interested on how updated SCP 999 article would look like? Might try writing that
>>
>>3013913
>999 will probably become Keter because of all the crazy powers we have now.
Well SCP classification depends mostly on difficulty of its containment rather than danger it poses. For example a button which can destroy an entire universe would be safe and randomly teleporting cat would be Keter (although the exact definitions of object classes are left vague as to not limit writers creative freedom). So I'd reckon 999 wouldn't be moved to Keter however his newly discovered ability to change and grow in power in such a short span of time coupled with how assertive he had become would move him to Euclid at the very least
>>
>>3013950
I think that the concept of this crossover is that the WOD earth is the SCP earth. Same place.
>>3014223
Well it would be a lot more difficult to contain us when we can conjure a magical storm, summon rain, summon a snow-storm, and attack with only our voice.
>>
>>3014261
Keep in mind SCP's personality is also taken into account which is the reason why 999 was classified as Safe despite clearly showing signs of intelligence which inherently makes an SCP in question unpredictable to a degree

WoD Earth and SCP Earth are actually separate places, though I'm going with the Tellurian being a narrative-space that hasn't gotten utterly infested by all the shit that the Foundation deals with regularly. Mostly because it is/was irrelevant to the greater powers of evil.

Also, happy Halloween. Up next, a reluctant Werewolf quest.
