>The fabled land of knights and honey, where many fairy tales of gallant heroes and princesses originated from. What many foreigners don't know is that the natives are no stranger to things such as knights going off to slay a monster to never be seen again. The cases of lycanthropy appearing to ravage the countryside all too often. Warlocks and curses around every corner. This is a land where social mobility is non-existent while nobles pretend to be enlightened rulers. These leaders present an honorable façade as they plot each other demise. By the fucking Gods do they go on about chivalry and other such bollocks. Some even say Vampires rule in their courts.- Jennyver FedlimidIf you want to know what Vampire Quest is like be sure to check out >>2894595 as it presents this quest in a freeform story with lore drops on how the world of Sfartalheim operates. >>2915434>A: Magali, why don't join us!>M: Come, òc, you should honor the Vauqulin name by partaking in this most splendid dance.Your two younger sisters of Maria Vauqulin and Annaeas Vauqulin beckoned you to come forth to join them in completing the giant circle of dancers interlocked by arms. Then the bagpipes started to ready for the coming song. Knowing that you rarely venture out of your manor before twilight, your sisters arranged this sunset summer fair to brighten up your mood. The party was about to start with knights and counts already beginning to prance into a drunken stupor. Peasants were enjoying their street stall food in their closed off half of the town square while your servants began to bring out roasted boar on a cart. It was some smart thinking on your part to bring out the roofs tent tops just in case it rained again. thus, your half of the square was perfectly dry but the rain was a light drizzle, in all honesty, you might not have even needed the cover. There was Raymond d'Lorrein, a 19-year old knight you recently married, thankfully he seemed nice and was only 2 years older than you. Raymond was already gulping down wine like usual trying to pass through this event in a daze. You weren't actually sure as you've only known each other for a few weeks but what he did know is that you were a Vampire. Yet that didn't stop him from accepting the betrothal from your father a year ago and thankfully Raymond didn't tell a soul about it after your father told him. Maybe it was the hope of his kids inheriting the county of Galaway after you die or it the life of comfort that kept his silence.https://youtu.be/SuZ2ZirQQmM?t=32sAn' Dro, the traditional dance of the Brythons for a joyous celebration was starting. It wasn't too late, you could still join arms with Maria and Annaeas but Raymond seemed to be sulking.>[Join the dance]>[Join Raymond in wine]

Repeating the movements until the song ended to make you unlock arms to twirl in place before all the dancers bowed to each other with left arm extended to their back and their right hand over their heart. It must have been the right thing to do since the other nobles smiled with your participation and even your normally dark chevalier husband of yours look brightened seeing you hop around on one foot. Next came the actual feasting as the servants poured wine into every cup and the boar was sliced up in a manner befitting for nobles based on their title. As the host with a higher title than most within here, you and by extension, Raymond, received the thighs of the slain beast while the other counts got ribs or intestines. The barons picked and chose which parts they wished for. Eventually, the knights had the rest of the wild pig that was deemed enough for the barons. It would be rude to not say a word or make a toast in such a celebration with that many attendances but you were hard pressed to find a subject to talk about since it was a party thrown on your sisters' whim. Your uneasy eyes turned to face Raymond to ask for advice.>What should I do?>Well, normally praising Asurhai is something that can never go wrong but nowadays religion is a somewhat sensitive topic for those Zekumites in the closet. You can also wish for his Majesty's good health but the younger knights won't like that.>Why would that be? Are they not the sworn subjects of the crown and protectors of the realm?>You'll see why...He said the last sentence in a dreadful tone before taking a sip from his cup with hollow eyes staring at the red liquid.>[Praise Asurhai]>[Toast to King Voi IV]

So, are we going to be like Anja, and more or less try to not be a murderous vampire who treats others as cattle, but as a person and generally unoffensive citizen who just happens to have an unfortunate blood disorder?
>>2915501Everybody in Magali's direct family knows that she is a Vampire. As for Anja, it depends on if I can come up with a story for her and if the Anons' responses to her.

The servants, however, were standing at the ready like motionless sculptures while the nobles also raised their cups as well.>A toast I ask of you for this merry gathering in a midsummer's night. May his Majesty, Roy Voi IV d'Versai, enjoy good family, health, and prosperity. As do I wish upon all those in attendance as well. While the table all said, "As do we all" before putting their cup back down, you can see later on that some were talking about how much of an uninteresting peasant you sounded like. If not for your superhuman senses, you were sure that the music and idle chatter would have drowned out the soft whispering gossip behind your back. Other left the table to browse through the different wine bottles, Lord Berbon found it odd that you always ate only meat whenever he was around, but you brushed it off as wanted to treat yourself in celebrations which made him genuinely laugh. It would seem that your father's teachings of staying inoffensive as a maiden were fine but as a Lady, you can't afford to be truly neutral or too inoffensive as it was seen as a sign of indifference or apathy. He always told you once you were given a county to rule over, that you can't be neutral lest it draws the ire of both sides when they see you as unwilling to affect the world on your own terms, that and apathy was one of the core sins in favor of Durga, the god of darkness. Raymond was again by his lonesome when some of the nobles left with their meal done. You couldn't tell if he wished to be alone or if everybody else avoided him, seeing as he was one of a few veterans from the Lorrein War. These veterans were somewhat shunned as they were thought to be failures by the lesser nobles and peasants following the war's indecisive end. Maybe that's why he didn't like large gatherings like this but it was possible to not invite your own husband to the fair, it would be insane not to, and it would have been also insane not to accept a wife's invitation. Idle chatter with the reclusive knight could bring him out of his gloomy demeanor yet still your sister call out to you for introducing their friends.>[Go talk to Raymond]>[Go to your sisters]

There was one advice your mother always told you before your marriage with Raymond and it was that both spouses needed to trust each other. It seems you could trust your husband as he kept his end of the bargain to seal his lips. As a knight, he was sworn to tell every secret which endangers the realm to his ultimate liege before Asurhai, which was the king of the Occiton, under the penalty of death. However, you can't say the same with him trusting you as he always appears to keep a distance from you except when sleeping. Yet always he brushes it off with some excuse, maybe you can find out why tonight.>How are you faring this fine night?>As fine as every other gathering, trying to get myself drunk to forget there are this many people gossiping about me.>You weren't the only one they talked about.>So, you heard?Open your mouth to show off your fangs to remind him that you were a Vampire with superhuman senses.>Ah... So, why are you really here? You've left me alone so far tonight.>You don't enjoy my company?>No, that's not it, in fact, I welcome it. It's just that this is unexpected.>Should a married couple not bond together?>I guess...>What's really bothering you at these events?>Do you really wish to know?>Yes.
>>2916467https://youtu.be/-pa62EEsR6E>I was just thinking about the last battle of the war. I was a part of formation 2, in the knight's detachment of Duc Gasgon d'Lorrein's army. We were overconfident about expecting the victory like last time when we pooled all our troops to attack the city's garrison. The Strosburii troops gathered outside of the walls to set up defenses in the night. By first sun's light, the rain halted to allow our Occiton army to march forth to threaten the Imperial free city. There the entire knight's detachment from all the armies charged into the front of the Imperial lines. Even as the muddy field slowed as down we were all so eager to engage the enemy. Like waves against a cliff, we crashed into their defenses. I was dismounted when my horse was hit in the eye with a bolt. I saw my brother get crushed by his mount as they fell into a spike pit. My childhood friend, Dameon, his skull was caved in when I tried to reach him as the enemy hammered him to death. Some of us try to surrender but the enemy wasn't taking any hostages this time. Just as I realized that we tried to wave off the next wave of knights charging at the line. Yet it was too late for them as well when the dismounted Imperial knights made contact with the second wave, they sliced off the horses' legs. Occiton knights who hesitated had their mounts beheaded by the enemy. Then the next wave came as bolts from the ground and the city walls turned them into pincushions. Then the next wave who made it into the second layer of defenses but was set aflame with embedded blast mines. Then the next wave who was turned to ash by a mage. Then the next wave, then again, then again, until the entire Occiton knight's detachments were shattered. The peasants soon followed to attack but we never got to the city walls before out king rode forth in a banner of truce to end the war. I only survived as I played dead, even then they found me after the battle to take me hostage. The entire affair was a bloody dishonorable disaster, myself included. It was only after our king threatened to use magic to torch the city did the Bosch empress gave the title over to Duc Gasgon and officially became a part of the duchy of Upper Lorrein. It was clear that he was carrying an emotional storm within himself and refused any others glimpse of it. You weren't sure what to say be maybe you didn't need to say anything as you could both drown in wine. But maybe you could comfort him.>[Drown in wine]>[Say something]

To the fallen and the foolishness of overconfidence! You both brought cups around each other's arms before drinking at the same time as to prevent the other from not drinking.>I'm sorry this happened to you, husband. I hope to help you in any way I can.>Lest thou forget and they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life. You didn't expect him to quote religious scripture here he was surprised you yet again. It was him to decided to try something he's always wanted to do with his friend but never got the chance. Both you and Raymond somehow ended up in a drinking contest competing against each other when almost all of the nobles left, your sisters included. He was in such a state he could barely stand while you were ready to vomit your entire dinner. At one point when you were cheering at a victory over him, he shut you up by kissing you which caught the attention of the others nearby. You had to push him away and hiss, "Not in public" as it was rude to do such a thing. But suggested that they should continue back in the manor. It was at least nice that you drew him out of his dark mood to even receive a compliment. While others kids said your eye was freakishly purple growing up, this night Raymond said, "You were born with royal gems in your eyes." You were happy that he was in a better state emotionally but physically, not so much.>R: We should go home, right?>What time is it?>Midnight I believe.>Meard! We best be going then.>By horse or foot?>Of course mounted! It would not befit a countess to walk.>Maybe for you but I know I would regurgitate the wonderful food lest I walk.>Well the manor is only 20 minutes by foot from here.>[By foot]>[By horse]
>>2916681>[By horse]What is a little barfing?
>>2916681>>[By foot]a nice stroll in the woods at midnight. What could go wrong.
>>2916695>>2916779>>2916987>[By foot]Wanting to also not barf, you thought it to be better to walk than mounting up. Normally, such a thing could be dangerous for nobles as bandits roam the woods but the manor was only 20 mins away from town as there were only farms dotted with hedgerows. And it seems such a possibility was almost non-existent. With only your guards present, both of you gossiped about the other nobles out loud when you were more than an earshot away from any building.>You saw the way Francoeur face planted himself into a plate.>R: Gods, I had to use all of my will to prevent myself from laughing.>How about the way Baroness Sisilia dug into the food like a pig?>R: You are what you eat it seems. That made you both giggle as both of you wanted to punch some of them in the face. The full moon lit the farms as to make it easier for everybody to walk the dirt road as there were some rocks here to make somebody slip. Fields upon fields of wheat and orchards litter beyond the horizon outside of the town, the only thing breaking this was the hedges and small patches of trees. Then there was some far off rustling in the crops but you couldn't be sure if anything was actually there. After 5 more minutes of walking, both you and Raymond were sober enough to notice that the rustling wasn't by the wind but in fact was following them as it moved along the road as well. It got to the point that you had to tell Raymond that you could hear footsteps and a large heartbeat with the smell of fur. Which made your guards and him draw out their swords.>R: So you said that you would continue when we got home.>Yes, if we're both alive for it that is.That had made him give a cocky smile to you as he raised his shield while you moved back to your horse to grab your short sword. Traveling around even near your own home could be dangerous with monster and bandits prowling. So, nobles always carried concealed weapons while knights brought their weapon and shield if they had a horse with them. But following Brython tradition of learning martial arts if a lady could physically wield a weapon, you proudly brought your weapon along with you every time you venture outside. That was only possible thanks to the superhuman strength granted to you by Vampirism. Yet maybe this attacker could be surprised if you brought out your daggers in your boots when attacked. For surely it must be an attacker who is tracking you.>[Draw short sword]>[Prepare daggers]

Waiting for the attack to come, there was something you didn't realize, whatever this thing was, it was big. For you could hear a second heartbeat and the steps sounded like deep in the dirt. Could it be a bear? No, this was almost all farmland spare small patches of wood where a creature as large as this couldn't have lived off of. Not to mention that the locals would have hunted it to extinction long ago. You decided to stand and face this thing on a crossroad as the entire group halted. It was a tense moment of silence before a huge thing leaped out to cut off your mount's head in a single stroke. It was clear that the attack was meant for you as you stood a few steps from the dead creature.https://youtu.be/Vt5Mxm7BPhM>Asurhai's Cock!>Bleeding Werewolf! The monster was giant amongst men, it towered over the tallest knight present named Jaun. He along with the knight was supposed to be protecting you came at it with swords to slice it red. Raymond got in front of you since he too noticed the Werewolf was aiming for you. As Jaun stabbed at the monster's leg, the other knight hacked away at the arms. It seems that the monster ran out of patience when it howled in pain before sweeping Jaun's leg make him fall on his ass then tore off the other knight's helm. That wasn't the end of it as the creature ripped out the warrior's neck with its jaw. By the time Jaun got back up, the monster kicked him connecting with the shield and forcing Jaun to stagger back. With a quick motion, the Werewolf sliced open his breastplate with ease, disemboweling him. Raymond looked back at you one last time in terror if both of you were up to such a task.>[Fight]>[Flee]

Now, go!You dragged him away from his position to then shove him from you, catching him in surprise as he almost forgot about your unnatural strength. Threateningly, you pointed your sword to keep him far from you as the monster was readying to pounce on you. Just as soon as it did so, however, you twirled to dodge the attack.>I'll be fine!Seeing you gracefully move around the creature had convinced him to run along to the nearest guard post to get some help. Thus there was only you and the Werewolf. Again it tried to slash you to ribbons to no avail as you kept your distance while parrying blows that got a little too close to comfort. The entire time you took a defensive stance as you had no hope of slaying the beast after seeing the steel weapons do little to no harm to the creature's strong hide. It got to the point that the monster cornered you to the ditch on the side of the road. There was only forward or backward for you to move as the monster was quick enough to prevent you from escaping to the left or right. Going forward seems suicidal knowing that you stood no chance at harming it. Retreating further back by jumping over the ditch left you open to an attack. As no such wise move came into your mind, you stood your ground to fend off the beast as best you could with steel and claws sparked the moonlit night. Without any option, you waited for an opportunity to move either to its flanks but it never came. Exhausted from the prolonged duel, your guard wavered for but a moment, but that was all it needed to rend your arm to bits. The weapon fell with an audible thud as your right arm flew as 3 parts into the air. Collapsing on the road with heavy breathing, you were not but pray to this thing. There were only two avenues for any chance of surviving this encounter for you. The dark and muddy ditch by the side of the road or the clear solid dirt path.>[The Ditch!]>[the Road!]
>>2920256>[The Ditch!]Shit, are the daggers we have hidden in our boots made of silver?
>>2920275Nope, steel just like every other weapon everybody else was carrying.
>>2920872As much as we have a silver allergy, every other monster also has a silver allergy, and I think we need some silver daggers for next time.
>>2920879Well, that is true silver is effective against monsters most of the time, there are some who don't have magical elements as are part of their natural biology. Those that don't use magic, passively or otherwise, can't be poisoned by silver but steel works perfectly fine on them.
>>2920258>>2920275>>2920429>[The Ditch!]Tossing yourself into the ditch, you rolled down like a pig as the wolf jumped in after you. Its feet sank in the mud as you thew one of your daggers at its face. Simply swatting it out of the air, there seems to be little difficulty in detecting you as the Werewolf sees all. The weapon flew upward in the air before landing back down on the road harmlessly after the monster's claws deflected it. Filling you with more panic, you dragged yourself through the filth as the threat had to waddle in big strides when its feet got stuck underneath it. You were sure that more pain awaited you when the beast got close enough to be within its arms reach. With all the was happening before you, you failed to notice two more heartbeats and steps drew here until they yelled.>Losa! The first voice was from a girl you could see but must have been on the road as bolts hit the back of the Werewolf to cause him to howl in pain. Then another woman jumped into the ditch with you, a sword on either side of her hips. She drew her blade from the right sheath before speaking to the person on the road.>Silberschpreng unt Drakredatrink!Like on cue, a bomb and vile was thrown to have the woman catch them with one hand. She drank the vile as the monster turned to face her then threw the bomb before it could react, the device detonated as soon as its shell broke from the hard impact with the creature. Although the blast made the Werewolf stagger back, it still attacked her with a charge. She jumped back in the nick of time before breathing fire from her mouth to turn the monster's face. With a cheeky laugh, the woman ran back out of the ditch with an enraged Werewolf in tow. You didn't get to see the exchange of blade and claws but you heard every time the girl said "Losa" a crossbow fired at the target. By the time you crawled out with what little energy you had, you saw the girl with crossbow throw another bomb while the woman threw chains to cause the monster to fall face first into the dirt. With that one moment of vulnerability, the woman jumped on the Werewolf's back before beheading it.Too weak to walk, you appeared pathetic when they both lifted you up to start carrying to the nearest sign of civilization but you remembered one thing despite growing weak with the loss of blood.>[I need blood!]>[They forgot my arm!]

>>2923600>>2923608>>2923599>[Summon the duo]It wasn't until you put down the empty mug on the desk that you noticed that you had a fully healed working right arm again. Looking at it in wonder, you moved it around and tested the fingers to see if it was no warlock's illusion. True enough it could hold, pull, grasp, and do all the tasks that arms are meant to do. Your husband looked at you with a puzzled face.>R: Why are you moving your arm about?>You should've seen the way this arm was sliced off my body. Yet they healed it as if not a butter knife cut me.>R: Gods, what? I should've have been there to defend you. I failed once more in my honorable duties.>No! Losing my arm wouldn't have been as bad as seeing you slain. I know I can get sliced up and survive but you're mortal. I'm glad to see you safe. The conversation moved on to topics like the state of the panic your guards were when they found you two at the gates. The next step in plans for your safety and what to do with the plague of lycanthropy affecting the kingdom. Once arriving in your council chamber with your council assembled in an emergency meeting, you made it clear that you must at least reward the Monster-Hunters for saving you. Henri, your chancellor, try to object to this but was swayed by more honorable members of the council. Sending a runner to summon them to court, you waited for them to come as you heard the local nobles, officials, and village elders petition.A few hours past midday is when the two came and you had to order everybody else, except Raymond, to leave the court with you alone with the Monster-Hunters. Greeting them with the somewhat insulting name of a dog breed from Bordou, which many in Occiton gave the name of the Monster-Hunters. They both bowed with the right hand over their heart, head, back parallel to the floor, and left arm extended at an angle away from the torso. It appears this was not the first time they dealt with nobility.>Ah, Gusses d'Bordou. I welcome you both to my humble home.>I & A: Your Lady.>No need for such formalities like bowing. Please, I should be the one bowing since you both have saved my life at that road. You must be the wondering why I've summoned you.>A: If it's another contract, I'm sorry to say we must decline. We're moving on to Mustallyon you see.>Well you are fortunate that I'm not hiring you but you mustn't leave my county empty-handed for all your toil of rescuing me. Raymond.>R: There are 300 Cronas in this box, a reward for your service for the countess.>There are two other reasons as to why you are here.>I: And that is?>First, what was that black poison you forced upon me?>A: That was what we call Black Blood within the empire. It is a highly toxic poison to Vampire which mortals can drink to protect themselves against bites. If Vampires drink it, that can lead to their organs shutting down and killing them.
>>2924007>So, you both know then?>A: Yes.There was uneasy tension in the air as Ingrid look back and forth between Anja and you while Raymond was ready to draw his sword. You had the idea at the back of your mind to summon the guards with a hunting whistle then locked them up in a cell or simply kill them. But you thought better.>How many more know?>A: Just us two.>Will you swear to keep this a secret, I have a reputation to maintain you must know.>I: Don't worry about that, show her Anja. With claws and fangs bare to all to witness, Anja revealed herself to be a Vampire.>W-what are you?>A: Also a Vampire.>B-but how did you extend your claws like that?>A: Oh... Oh! You can't do that, can you?>Never!>A: You see the most common of the Vampires are the, how do you say, unnatural kind. Those like me who've been bitten by a former Human with Vampirism. We can grow claws or talons then change ears to a more bestial form and are incredibly hard to kill. You must have been one of the rare natural Vampires, bitten by a Vampire bat. What you have is the older unmutated form of the magical disease.>Yes, spring when I was 15 on a hunting trip with my father. Saw bite marks on my arm after waking up in my tent.>A: Yes, you don't have any of my more bestial traits and you can regenerate just not very well like me. See these?Anja held up her scarred hand to show off to you.>A: That was me cutting myself in a fight with my silver blade. You can heal sure but if something like this happens to you, you wouldn't have any fingers to speak of. But what you have something lost in the mutation of Vampirism, you have pheromones which can change people's mood around you. Your senses are beyond sharper than anything I can hope to achieve. These natural Vampires also have the uncanny ability to somehow predict what others will do.>That- That is most enlightening. I thank you both for this.>I: Well, we best be going now if we are to prepare to hit the road by sunset.>I bid you farewell! You bowed at them and them in turn as well before leaving the room.>R: Now what?>Now? For all, we know the monster was hired to assassinate me. Get me that damn Dwarf and have him meet me in the library, this time I'm sure I can have Henri not weasel his way out of not spending court crowns on this project. You went ahead to the library to find a book that the court alchemist first brought over. Titled "Zuda Sebra" or "Wonders of Silver" in Talski. It talks about the ability to slowly poison a person if one keeps sneaking in the metal's dust in their drinks. There was also talk of its magical ability to deconstruct a creature's body which has magic as part of its biology. Explaining the inability of most monsters to regenerate from blows from silver weapons. Expanding upon this idea, it gives instructions on how to make silver oil to coat blades but this was a temporary solution as the coat wears off with overuse. The ginger Dwarf with a thick beard would've surprised you as you were reading except for the fact you heard him walking over to the stairs on the ground floor. It didn't help that even within the courtyard, you could smell him drinking wine from his 1395 Champain bottle before it was even sunset.>H: You summoned me, my Lady.>I want silver.>H: Pardon me, but I don't understand.>I want every single knight, levy, guard, and mercenary under my payroll to have either a silver weapon, silver bomb, or silver oil.>H: Wha- Are you sure about this? The budget is tight enough as it is without this extra expenditure.>This is a necessity, for I believe myself to be targeted my monsters, specifically, Werewolves.>H: My Lady, I implore you to consider that the Werewolf that attacked you->Wasn't by chance! It was deliberate and pre-planned, I'm sure of it.>H: I mean until harvest, the court won't have enough money for another major project like this.>We could use confiscate Temple land then sell it back to nobles and merchants looking to be nobles.>H: You know neither your father, who is the Duke of this duchy, and the king would agree to such an idea. But I doubt they care enough to intervene for one county, maybe your father but not the king most certainly. How about using the peasants to start something similar to a warlock hunt. Except we target suspected Werewolves instead.>Crude but effective.
>>2925313Either way, you look at it, you held just one county. The taxes you collected which wasn't given to your father, didn't give you wiggling room to field a personal army of monster slayers. Still, the Werewolf epidemic wasn't a new thing in Occitonia, in fact, it's been going on for at least a century at this point. That wasn't even counting the fact some men dressed up like wolves to slaughter young girls. You thought them to be pure degenerates that reverted to a beast than intelligent beings. It's not like this was the first time you've ordered mass hangings or burnings. Last year during the war, to show your support for the war, you rounded up then burned all the Zekumite heretics you could find in your land to garner favor with the king. Another mass hanging might just be the thing to let the peasants blow off steam and prevent a riot like last time you refused to execute a few people. Funny enough, your guards ended up killing more rioters than the people that were meant to be hanged.>[Go back to the crossroad + Spend money]>[Confinscate Temple land + Earn money]>[Use the peasants + Save money]

>>2925876Thanks, I was actually going to do that once it was in 4chan's archive. I'm happy you liked it.>>2925791Seeing as banks aren't a common thing in Occitonia, it would take a few days to ride just to get to the nearest bank not to mention that they would likely decline to give a loan since your a countess. And if they did give you a loan, the interest rate alone would keep you trapped in a cycle of debt. You can't exactly ask your father to inflate the ducal currency to pay it off as all the duchies switched over to the realm standard Cronas (Crowns) when the king managed to establish a monopoly over the minting process.
>>2925672>>2925701>>2925797>[Confinscate Temple land + Earn money]>If we are so tight on money then we must earn it by any means. Not like I'm not going to use the mob, I'll let the peasants be peasantry. Prepare the troops to be deployed to all Temple properties at the same time tonight at 10. We must seize it quietly and without incident before the Arch-Priest in Marsail can react. I don't want my family fighting with the knights of Ordo Belis again. >H: Yes, that would be most unfortunate. Honestly, I wonder why the temple at Rowzahon even has 6 acres of land to its name. It's not like they have the money to build a cathedral or enlarge the cemetery.> Exactly! I'm happy you've seen the way I do my chancellor. Now, we best be sending runners off, shouldn't we?That came with a reply of a bow before the Dwarf quickly departed to send the message to your troops stationed all around the county. Raymond wanted to personally lead the troops when they would take the temple on the hill near the actual town of Galaway, but you insisted that he stay at the manor in case of another attack from one of your guards or servants here. Seeing as you trusted him more than anybody else in Galaway and you weren't paranoid if there was somebody out there to get you. Pacing around the room in uncertainty until around midnight, you were awaiting word of how the events transpire at the Temple properties. That was answered when a guard burst through the door before kneeling and announcing that your troops took those lands without resistance and the Ordo Belis couldn't react in time without orders from Mersail. You dismissed him then jump into Raymond's arm like a little girl who achieved something she shouldn't have. He hugged you and made you uncoil the tension within yourself with a head pat.>R: I'm happy everything worked out fine but... What are you going to do with all those workers and priests your troops caught? I hope you aren't going to throw them in a dungeon.>No! That would be barbaric, but I can't let them leave before selling the lands lest word travels back to Mersail. I know! How about we place them under house arrest in the monastery.>R: I guess that will work for now.The next day was spent going through all the legal loopholes to claim these lands as county property instead of the Temple's then actually trying to sell it off. As the sun sets you were nearing the end of your mundane paperwork and thought of going back to the place where you were attacked with you knights and Raymond. The full flashy display of might should deter most from getting near you while you look through the surroundings. Yet if there was somebody actually targeting you it might be better to go incognito. Then came the problem of the annoying peasants telling you to sod off of their land. Either way, you were going to be more prepared this time.
>>2926176>[With a full escort]>[Incognito]
>>2926182>>[With a full escort]if we already have some silver>[Incognito]if we don't
>>2926226>>2926397>>2926677>[Incognito]Seeing as you lacked the silver weapons at the time, it would seem wise to move with discretion lest shiny plate armor draw unwanted attention. Dyeing your heir blond then putting on makeup to fake a scar, you were almost complete with the transformation until you wore a cloke blocking your peripheral vision. Twirling around to show off your outfit to Raymond,>How do I look?>R: Like an unsavory character...>Exactly! Now, we best be off! With a quick declaration to depart from your manor to Henri, you left the property with the peasant servants paying you little heed. It actually wasn't unusual to see people with hoods on in a clear day as Brythony was right by the coast and received an obscene amount of unexpected rain. Wasting no time reaching the crossroad, you retrace the steps with the faint footprints of the Werewolf that you encountered. You were about to jump over the fence blocking off the crops from the road along with Raymond and two other knights until somebody told you to stop.>P: Oi, stop right there!>It is of the utmost urgency that I survey your farm under the orders of the countess.>P: The countess, I didn't vote for her.>No, that's not how nobility works.>P: Then who gives you the supreme executive authority to do whatever you want?>Will you shut it!>P: Oh, this is part of the aristocratic system to keep the working class repressed.>Dear husband, can you silence him?>Help, help! I'm being repressed!Raymond took his sword to hit him over the head with his pommel, causing him to scamper off to whichever hole he crawled out of, maybe that hut in the distance. Going back to the task at hand, you followed the scent of something most foul. It was a shack with a book and some rotten food as you thought the last time he was here was the several nights ago when you were attacked. It would be safe to assume that the shack was used by the man before he transformed into a Werewolf to wait for you to arrive on the road back home. This confirms your theory that this was definitely pre-planned. Although you were careful to not step on anything, you couldn't shake the feeling that this place smelled like an outhouse but there was no sign of shit anywhere. That was the case until looking back as a knight stepped on the first plank inside the place causing a shimmering of sorts under the floor. That was when you realized that it was the sound of an activation rune and the smell of manure with a flash of sparks flying hiding underneath the planks. You tackled Raymond to send him on his ass flung from the door of the place as the entire shack exploded into a firey ball. The blast caused the other knight standing watch outside to be sent face first into the dirt as the wood hit his back while the other knight inside was nothing more than a burning corpse. >[Search the ashes]>[Ride back to the manor]
>>2926677Also, the silver weapons won't be ready for at least a week as you need to sell the land then spend the money to make the weapons, bombs, and oil.
>>2931417>[Search the ashes]>Send Raymond to check on the surviving knightGoddamn, we can't keep losing knights like this! Sure, they're not exactly elite, but the more we lose the worse our pool of fighting men gets!

>>2931417>>[Search the ashes]The manure piles. They always get you.
>>2931505>>2931807>>2932369>>2933210>[Search the ashes]Although it might have been dangerous to stay at the same place knowing assassins could be on the way, you none the less stayed to look through whatever's left of the shack. Wooden planks and straw were everywhere as Raymond got up to check the other knight, thankfully he was fine as you were left to your own devices. There was a smell in the air you didn't notice before as the manure was mixed with it before but now the smell of a particular oil used with wine was in the air. You knew that smell, the wine was from a 1394 Bordou in the lowlands. The oil was something else, it was the kind they would use on stamps to prevent wax sticking onto it. The oil wasn't needed but people who have it show it off as a status symbol seeing as the oil was expensive. Feeling the ground with your hand, you could feel the low humming coming from the activated rune. the thing would be humming for a good few hours since activation before dying off. Using just your fingers, you dug into the dirt as unbefitting of a countess but you did find the rune. Seeing the tiny micro scratches of the symbols behind the glowing light, it was safe to conclude that something the size of a quill was used to carve the symbol into the stone. You fingertips felt that smooth surface of the stone itself as not a single imperfection could be felt by you. This was no black-market item, it was something legally and professionally made. Somebody was rich enough to use stamp oil to mix with the manure to make a bigger fireball and could afford to use militery-grade rune. There was only one person in this county here at this time with that kind of money and with a convoluted plan to stage your assassination as a random Werewolf attack. You knew where Lord Berbon was staying in town, as he always took the most expensive room he could find but never staying your manor whenever you've invited him. The one thing you didn't know was why, why did he tried to kill you? Or at least how was he connected to the attack anyway. Either way there was a small window of opperunity to act before he leaves your county.>[Raid his room and arrest him]>[Begin surveillance operations]

>>2933380>>2933403>>2933404>[Begin surveillance operations]Riding back to your manor with hast, the number of knights lost within your company was worrying, to say the least. You hoped that the same fate didn't befall upon Raymond but you needed to focus to the matter at hand. The first thing doing once arriving at the manor was summoning your council to have Henri send to the news that you were gravely wounded while out surveying her realm. The plan was to have doctors and medical supplies be brought to the manor causing the rumor to spread of your unfortunate accident. This was all a ploy to mislead Lord Berbon to believe that his backup plan actually worked while you had enough time to check if he had another backup plan in case that failed as well. The second thing to do was accelerate the auctioning of Temple property to have your armory be filled with silver weapons by sending Gwenith, your Vesterling Elf treasurer, as no follow of Kornos would ever handle loans. Thus the responsibility falls upon the Elven Gods worshipping Gwenith who swore to keep saying that you were bedridden from the accident. Catarina, the court witch, was given the responsibility of placing surveillance wards everywhere Berbon eat, sleep, sat, walked, talked, or shat at. Even threatening to hang her if this can't be done to show how serious you were. The witch only bowed to leave with speed as she promises it will be done. Once you've gathered enough silver and troops placed around his house you would need to act.>R: Any plans?>Thinking of one...>R: You know we could always send in the troops to arrest him once we know more about what he's planning.>Yes, but it might be better if I approach him acting like I know nothing of what transpired.>R: There will be guards on standby when you meet him right?>Naturally, I am entering the dragon's lair, so to speak.>[Storm his house later]>[Meet him later]

>>2934170>>2934195>>2934499>[Meet with him later]Several days have passed since you have supposedly lost your left foot from an accident on the road while surveying a farm. That should be a convincing enough story to buy time for you to acquire the silver weapons you need to fend off another monster-based assassination attempt. As the week passed without incident, your witch fed you information about what Lord Berbon have said and done as the sight and sound wards were in place picking up any movement within the noble's house. What you know is that the house is not his, rather from a merchant family, he rented out so that he can stay here while the family stays at an inn. Using the house as his base of operations, he was sending gifts to your father and Annaeas. That was the place where he plotted to kill you as well. There were other conspirators who met up here to be told who to kill and when to lay low. The others in the group were peasants but took orders to kill random targets at specific locations at designated times. The cogs in your mind began to turn as the idea connected the dots all making a map with him in the middle. These random Werewolf attacks were done to draw your guards away from their normal stations and keep them guessing at all times. Following your death, the title for the county of Galaway wouldn't pass on to your husband as he is of lower station and not from your family. It would go back to your father, Duke Pau, who couldn't hold it seeing as he was already juggling 4 counties. That would mean he would pass it on to his eldest child and your younger sister, Annaeas. With her hand in marriage, Lord Berbon would effectively be her regent as Lord-Protector of her realm until she turns 16 and becomes her husband. Catarina already informed you that Berbon had the herbs to turn your sister incapable whenever he wished, "Preferably after she bore him a few children". Once that happens, Count Berbon was a duke in all but name seeing as he directly ruled 3 counties in Gaullia while acting as the Lord-Protector of 1 in Brythony. This dishonorable snake was going to pay for what he was planning, that's for sure.>B: Declare yourself!>It is I, Countess Magali!>B: Oh, come in, come in. With your riding pants, you were ready to chase him down. Raymond waved his hand to bring the wagon forth. The sheets unveiled to show off the repeater crossbow installed to shoot while moving.
