Previous thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive/2830374/

Recap: You are Yukari Kuromatsu, a ordinary high school student with a casual interest of Duel Monsters. However, after miraculously surviving getting hit by a car, you were brough to the future where you were told by an organization of timeline protectors that your accident caused you to become unstuck in time, allowing you to travel into the past without fear of having your memory of history being altered or having your existence become undone.

They asked you to aid them in catching a chronoterrorist named Orwell and his gang of criminal time travellers who use Duel Monsters as weapons and tools for their own ends. You accepted, and were given a Duel Disk-like time travel device and a deck of unique cards- the Timegears. Now, you have gone back to the time of Duel Academy, where you now blend in as a student of Slifer Red.
---

You get out of bed, ready to start your first day at Duel Academy. You don your Slifer Red uniform and check the HIND for any reports on the Belial member that infiltrated this time period. However, you have no such luck. You wonder how long it will take to finally get the intel you need to complete your mission.

As you walk up to the campus building, you notice something strange- people in white coats all over the place. You pay it no mind, but when you get into the classroom, the whitecoats are all over the place.

"What's going on?" Jaden asks when he sits down at the desk a row down from yours.

>"Beats me."

"I was hoping you knew." you say.

"Sorry, but I'm just as lost as you." answers Jaden. "Though...now that I look,I'm pretty sure all the people in white coats are actually Obelisk Blue students. What gives?"

"You didn't hear?" says a Ra Yellow student. "Chazz Princeton came in to the Blue dorm acting crazy and challenging everyone he saw to a duel...he took everyone to the mat, and then THEY started acting weird! I'm pretty sure I saw some Obelisk Blue students trying to paint their dorm white."

"Yeah, then he dueled Alexis and she went all weird, too. They're all mumbling something about seeing the light or some garbage." says another student. "Oh God, what if the insanity's contagious?"

"Wait, see the light?" asks Jaden, looking worried. You remember what Jaden told you- that he was told that a 'Light of Destruction' was coming to bring ruin. This can't be a coincidence.

After the lectures -during which the professors try their best to ignore the creepy whitecoats- you leave the campus to follow behind Jaden as you check out the Obelisk Dorm. Sure enough, it's now painted a stark white.

When you approach the dorm, a student with spiky black hair sporting a white coat walks out to greet you. "Well, well, well. Looks like the bottom of the barrel scrapes itself at our door." he says cockily. "Jaden Yuki..."

He looks at you the same way someone would look at dog droppings they just stepped in.

"And some no-name Slifer hack." he says condescendingly. Jaden grits his teeth. "I get you've got high sense of self worth, Chazz, but you're being way more abrasive than usual." he says. "What's going on?"

"Can't you tell, Slacker?" says Chazz. "I've found friends in high places. The Society of Light's given me a new perspective, and I don't need the likes of you clouding my view, so scram..."

A girl with the same outfit and a dull look in her eyes steps out of the dorm. "What's going on?" she asks.

"Tch, nothing much." says Chazz. "Just two worthless Reds I'm gonna enlighten."

"Well, don't keep all the fun to yourself..." the girl says with a cruel smirk. "I could kill some time..."

Jaden tenses up. "Damn, they really did get to Alexis...hey, Yukari, could you lend me a hand? I don't think I could take them both on."

"I activate the Spell Card Timegear 'Chronomotive'!" you say as the steampunk time-travelling train pulls up to the battlefield."It lets me put a Level 5 or lower Timegear monster from my Deck into my hand. I add 'Timegear Gentleman' to my hand, which I'll now summon!"

The dapper robot steps in front of you, adjusting his hat as he focuses on Chazz. "Whenever I summon Gentleman," you explain. "I can pick a Timegear monster out of my Deck and either add it to my hand or banish it- so I banish my Timegear Dragon!"

Chazz scoffs. "Banishing your own monsters from the Deck? No wonder you're a Slifer Slacker."

"You'll be eating those words soon enough." you say confidently. "Until then, I play a card facedown and end my turn."

TURN 2: CHAZZ

Yukari: 4000 LP

"I activate the Trap Card 'Temporal Storm'!" you declare. A swirling blue vortex rips up the battlefield."It lets me destroy a number of Spells and Traps up to half the number of my banished Timegear monsters! So, I'll take out one of your facedowns!"

The storm picks up a card, reveaing a Bottomless Trap Hole, only to whisk it away. Chazz grimaces.

"Well, it's a good thing I picked that one." you say with a smirk. "Moving right along, I Normal Summon Timegear Surveyor!"

A little drone drops down from the sky, whizzing about frantically. "When I bring out Surveyor, I get to Special Summon a banished Timegear!" you say with a grin. "So get ready to eat those words, Chazz, 'cause here comes Timegear Dragon!"

The Dragon comes out of a cloud of steam with a roar, eyes glowering down on Chazz.

"Let's go, Timegears!" you say. "Timegear Dragon, attack his facedown! Gentleman, Surveyor, attack him directly!"

Dragon stomps the facedown monster (a Gazelle, King of Mythical Beasts) as Surveyor shoots up Chazz and Gentleman slams a metal fist into the duelist's face.

Chazz: 4000 LP -> 2200 LP

(Tired, will continue in the morning.)

TURN 4: CHAZZ

Yukari: 4000 LP
Chazz: 3200 LP

"My turn!"

Chazz draws, then smirks. "I Normal Summon 'Hunter of Black Feathers' in Attack Position!" he declares. A feral looking winged warrior emerges on the field, giving you a vicious, bloodthirsty smile.

"My Hunter allows me to discard a card to destroy a monster as long as you have 2 or more monsters, all of the same type." Chazz says with a grin. "And as far as I know, all those Timegear monsters of yours are Machine-Types."

He discards and points a finger at Timegear Dragon. "Go, Hunter of Black Feathers! Destroy her Dragon with the Winds of Hell!"

The Hunter shrieks as he flaps his wings. Razor sharp feathers perforate Timegear Dragon, shattering it.

"Now, I activate the Trap Card 'Horn of the Phantom Beast'!" says Chazz. "It basically works like an Equip Spell for Beasts and Beast Warriors, giving the equipped monster 800 addition Attack Points."

The Hunter shrieks proudly as a pair of glowing antlers sprout up from its skull.

Hunter of Black Feathers: 1700 ATK -> 2500 ATK

"Hunter of Black Feathers, attack her Surveyor!"

Surveyor doesn't even stand a chance- bashed by antlers before being grabbed by claws and torn in half.

You wince from the blowback.

Yukari: 4000 LP -> 1700 LP

The antlers glow brighter. "As a bonus, whenever a monster with the Horn destroys a monster in battle, I get to draw a card." Chazz says smugly as he draws his card. "Looks like you've got no choice but to see the light..."

>>

>>2901846

"The only thing I'm going to see is the path to victory!" you say. "Your time's up, Chazz, because I'm going to win in this turn."

"What?!" Chazz said, eyes wide. "How? I'm only down 800 points, and none of your monsters are strong enough to destroy my Hunter!"

You grin cockily. "I'll show you!" you say. "First, I activate the Spell Card 'Fusion Sage', allowing me to take a 'Polymerization' from my hand and add it to my Deck. Next, I Normal Summon 'Timegear Field Agent'!"

The young woman brandishes a pair of pistols and glowers at the winged man as she emerges next to Gentleman.

"Now, I use Polymerization to fuse my Gentleman and Field Agent'!" you say as you activate the card. A vortex opens up above, sucking in your monsters.

"Wills of iron and hearts of steel bind themselves together!" you cry out as a figure forms in the swirling maelstrom. "The oath of the knight resonates throughout time into the future! Fusion Summon - Timegear Knight!"

The massive mechanical warrior drops to the Earth with a resounding boom.

"Next, I use the hand effect of Timegear Dragon, banishing 2 Timegears from my Graveyard to Special Summon it from my hand!"

Another Dragon emerges on the field, roaring as it alights beside the Knight.

"Finally, I activate the Spell Card 'Timespace Fusion!" you say. "It allows me to Fusion Summon a Timegear Monster by shuffling banished materials for it back into my Deck!"

"A-A Fusion Summon using banished monsters?!" shouts Chazz, eyes growing wide with disbelief. "Th-that's unbelieveable!"

"Well, you better start believing, because I fuse the Timegears I banished using Dragon to Summon a second Timegear Knight!"

Chazz lets out a wail of frustration as a duplicate Knight drops down. "Timegear Knight, attack his Hunter!" you command. "Chrono Cutter!"

Timegear Knight holds its sword up over its head with both hands before swinging down with a vertical slash. A crescent of green energy shoots off of the blade and annihilates the Hunter.

Chazz: 3200 LP-> 3100 LP

"Now, Timegear Knight's effect activates by destroying a monster in battle. By banishing a Timegear monster from my hand or Graveyard, I can pick a Spell or Trap from my Graveyard and put it back in my Deck. Shame I won't be able to use it before the duel ends, though..."

"Now, Timegear Knight and Dragon, attack directly and destroy his Life Points!"

Timegear Knight jumps up and lands on Timegear Dragon's back as it charges at Chazz. As the Dragon breathes out a torrent of scalding steam, the Knight swings its sword, striking Chazz as it passes by.

Chazz screams out in shock and humiliation as his Life Points count down.

Chazz: 3100 LP -> 600 LP -> 0 LP

Chazz sinks to his knees, looking shocked. "I can't believe I lost..." he says. "I-I..."

You're killing with all these generics, man. I appreciate what you're putting forward, but you gotta think of this working more like the anime than a reality. Its okay to lean into the archetype even if they wouldn't always work in a real world duel.

"Why am I not surprised?" you say jokingly. From what you've seen of the Vice-Chancellor he's...a bit of an oddball.

---

The next day...

You wake up and check your HIND. Still no update.

You groan and flop back onto your bed. Why is Janus taking so long?!

You walk to class to find Jaden in an intense argument with Obelisk 'White' students.

"Get lost, Red." sneers one of the whitecoats. "Sartorius should decide where we go."

"What's going on?" you ask, ears perking up at the name 'Sartorius'. Jaden frowns. "We've got a 'new student'." he says, putting skeptical emphasis on 'new student'. "His name is Sartorius. Familiar, isn't it?"

"Yeah.." you say.

An Obelisk White sneers. "Look, until you're smart enough to join the Society, you might as well make yourself scarce."

Jaden grins cockily. "Well, my grades might not be great, but I'm probably the best Duelist on campus!"

"Are you sure about that?" asks a refined voice.

You see a young man with a shock of blue and white hair step up.

Wataru's voice crackles in your ear. "Sorry for radio silence, been hard to find records from Duel Academy. But that dude there's definitely Sartorius." he says.

"Why don't we settle this with a Duel?" asks Sartorius. "I'll have one of my group Duel you as my representative...if you win, I'll let you choose where the trip's destination lies. If my representative win, I get to choose..."

Sartorius's eyes narrow as he smirks. "And you will join the Society of Light."

Jaden grins confidantly. "You're on, Sartorius! C'mon, gimme your best Duelist!"

Tag duel?
>>
>>2906238
I’m nervous Sartorius will pull out some guy with gifted strong cards from the future.

But tag duels are death to write or I’d support the write in. If we have a face down, we’d have to stop several times to see if we want to activate it before it hits our turn again.

"Hmmm...sure, why not!" says Jaden.

A woman steps up- a woman dressed like the typical fairy tale princess.

Oh God, is she going to use the same Deck as Leon?!

TURN 1: ROSE

Rose: 4000 LP
Yukari: 4000 LP

"Alright, I'll start by placing down a totally fabulous facedown and Setting a monster facedown!" Rose says cheerfully.

TURN 2: YUKARI

Rose: 4000 LP
Yukari: 4000 LP

Your hand:
Timeline Reverb,
Timegear Dragon,
Timegear Initiate,
Timegear Chronomotive,
Timespace Fusion,
Lightning Vortex

"First, I activate the Spell Card 'Timegear Chronomotive'!" you say. "It lets me add a Level 5 or lower Timegear monster from my Deck to my hand. So I'll add Timegear Field Agent to my hand, then Normal Summon Timegear Initiate!"

The brilliant young savant appears in front of you with a huge grin before standing at attention on the battlefield.

"Now, I use Initiate's effect to Special Summon Timegear Field Agent, and use her to attack your facedown!" you say.

Princess Rose feings coming down with the vapors. "Oh no, you've got me cornered! My monster is doomed!"

She smirks. "Not!" she says. "I activate the Trap Card 'Mirror Force'!"

Uh-oh.

"When you attack, I can activate this to destroy all your Attack Position monsters!"

A shimmering barrier emerges over the facedown monster, causing Field Agent's shots to ricochet and strike both your monsters down.

"Damn!" you huff.

>What is your next move?
>>
>>2907446
Set Reverb, pout, and end turn.
>>
>>2907473
Wait, no.

Special Summon Timegear Dragon and blow her monster away. The end turn smugly.
>>
>>2907446
SS Dragon, set reverb, end.

>>2907490
We can’t summon our dragon during our battle phase, unfortunately.
>>
>>2907609
As far as I'm aware there is no restriction on the card saying we can't attack with it the turn we summon it, nor is it illegal to Special Summon during the battle phase. There's no reason we can't attack wit Dragon this turn.
>>
>>2907722
I'm going to rule that you can't SS Dragon during the Battle Phase
>>
>>2907722
It's the same reason why you can't use spell cards during your battle phase unless they are quick spells. And even then, they have to be reactionary, like using it when a monster declares an attack. If Dragon's effect to special summon itself was a quick effect, we could use it in reaction to our monsters being destroyed and special summon it. Otherwise, we have to wait until our main phase 2 to activate his effect from our hand.

"First, I banish my Initiate and Field Agent to Special Summon Timegear Dragon, then use the effect of Timegear Lawman to Special Summon itself. Then, I use Timespace Fusion to Fusion Summon by shuffling banished Timegear monsters as material!" you say.

Rose pouts. "That's not even fair!" she says, stomping her foot. "Nobody should have cards that powerful!"

"Well, excuse me, princess." you say with a smirk. "As, I was saying....minds of clockwork and wills of iron bind themselves together!" you proclaim. "The oath of the knight resonates throughout time into the future! Fusion Summon - Timegear Knight!"

"Oh. come ON!" complains Rose. You grin. "Alright, let's begin this beatdown." you say. "Lawman, put that Grizzly down!"

Lawman brings his massive revolver to bear and fires a shot right between the Grizzly's eyes.

Rose: 4000 LP -> 3400 LP

"Heh, you just activated Grizzly's effect, letting me Special Summon a WATER monster with 1500 ATK or less. I Summon Yomi Ship!"

Timegear Dragon roared and let out a blast of steam before tendrils of water pull it under.

"Nggggh!" grunts Rose.

Rose: 3400 -> 1700

"Now, I'll finish this by attacking your Treeborn Frog with my Timegear Knight! Go, Chrono Slash!"

Rose lets out a squeal as her tiny frog gets decimated by your gigantic knight.

"AAAAAAAAH!!!!"

Rose: 1700 LP -> 0 LP

You win!

Rose slumps. "Bogus...I can't beiieve I lost..." she mutters. Satorius looks...shocked. Actually, he looks like he's seen a ghost. He looks at you the way someone looks at their approaching death.

You don't know why, but Satorius is AFRAID of you.

Jaden snaps you out of it. "Wow, Yukari! I might have to rethink my claim of being the best Duelist on campus- your Timegears are amazing!" he says, giving you a wide grin.

"Hey, your Neo-Spacians are pretty cool, too." you say. "You don't have to run any Fusion spells!"

Jaden smiles. "Aw, thanks!" he says sheepishly.

Sartorius regains his composure. "Well, a deal is a deal...I will concede the choice of the field trip to Jaden." he says reluctantly. Jaden grins. "Alright! I can't think of a better place to go than Battle City!"

Battle City- the site of the legendary tournament that revealed the Egyptian God Cards. You're actually a little excited to go, now.

Your HIND begins to buzz.

You freeze up then bolt off, trying to escape the eyes of the other students.

When you get to a bathroom stall, you activate the HIND.

<Out-of-place person confirmed: Name: Unknown.> says the HIND. It shows a young man wearing a white military-style uniform. <Alias: Heinlein. Predictive model implicates Heinlein is manipulating Satorius to gain access to the SORA orbital weapon. According to chronologic records of Satorius the upcoming Duel Academy Genex tournament will have Misgarth's Prince Ojin, who will be manipulated by Satorius to hand over the control keys of the SORA weapon to Satorius. Predictive model shows Heinlein altering the targeting and firing parameters of the satellite when Sartorius tries to use it. Heinlein's target and motives are currently unknown.>

"Wataru, what do you know about the SORA satellite?" you ask.

"SORA? Oh, geez. Over on our end, that thing was destroyed years ago 'cause it was a war crime waiting to happen. If Belial's trying to get their hands on it, it can't be for anything good."

"How bad are we talking?" you ask nervously.

"Well, reports conflict. Some say it could put out a signal that could manipulate people's minds," answers Wataru. "Others say it could wipe out entire countries....others say it could blow up the whole planet."

"The whole planet?!"you say in shock.

>"Wataru, I don't think I can do this."

Been checking this thread in the archives, really interested in both the intrigue and the deck tech (I was a semi pro player from 2005-2008, and 2012-2013) and going to try and help out where I can next thread.

One thing to note: Sartorious in canon is obnoxiously genre savvy. The kill sat needs 2 keys to fire, so what does he do to get them? Pickpockets one off Aster and holds a hostage to get Jaden's in a trade. He has no intention of dueling for the fate of the world until neospace FORCES him to.

Simply being good at children's card games may not be good enough. Hopefully Yukari's got some other talents.
