You are SCP 999, a blobby mass of joy and happiness for all! And you are currently moving through dimensional boundaries through the help of some mysterious stranger.

Previous threads: >>2852582, >>2868472

List of Current Traits, Skills and Trinkets.
>Trait- Fearless (B++): You do not fear the darkness or anything within it. Though you might end up somewhat unnerved.
>Trait- Arcadian Versed (C++): You now understand more of the land of Arcadia and its masters than most would at first suspect. Take that, Foundation!
>Trait- Happy Dancer (C+): You tend to dance when you're really happy or when you've succeeded at a great task. You aren't really all that good right now, but you aren't exactly bad at it either.
>Trait- Selfless (A): You care far more about the feelings of your friends and allies than you do your own, and will gladly sacrifice your own happiness for them (You have reserves anyhow).
>Trait- Scholar of Realms (F-): You understand how some of the realms of this new land function, as well as basic summoning work to call upon thier denizens. Of course, only in the simplest possible form of such.

Skills
>Purifying Touch (B): Your very touch can set truly evil beings ablaze in purifying white flames. Truly, hugs are no laughing matter with you
>Song Of Fury (E+): Through the power of song, you can call up a storm of pure melting power to descend upon your foes and teach them their follies.
>Rain-Call (F+): You may summon a permanent drizzling of rain (complete with accompanying thunderstorm) in any area that you currently reside within, disregarding any dimensional blockages or other forms of preventative measure. You're getting better at calling down the rain in difficult situations, but it's not winning any talent shows any time soon.
>Snow-Storm (F++): You can spontaneously generate a freezing effect capable of completely encasing an entire area in a layer of permafrost. Requires the use of a Dream Trinket or another active trinket. Your usage of this skill has grown your ability to manipulate it. You can make ice-slides now!
>>
>>2888821
Active Trinkets/Other Items
>Dream Trinket: A small odd thing given to you by a wounded being within a dream of a festering city. Grants you the ability to cast Snow-Storm and invert local physical forces. You will not fail again
>Toy replica of the Shaded Palace: a miniature version of Vuindred's own Palace. Perfectly huggable, but its definitely not the real deal.
>>Bag of Treats: Sweet enough to munch on, and pleasant enough to leave you feeling contented afterwards. May or may not be enchanted to a degree.
>Summoning Tips, By Vuindred The Black: Exaclty what it says on the cover. Vuindred gave you this for whatever reason, seemingly feeling it relevant reading for you. You should thank him when you next get the chance.
>Arcadia, The Gentry And The Wyrd: For Dummies Edition 10: A book giving a general rundown on the nature of Arcadia and the powerful beings that rule over it. Certainly helps with distinguishing between the various Arcadian horrors, that's for sure!

Friends
>Vuindred the Black: The Archmage who lords over the Shaded Palace. Doesn't seem to like you all that much. Which is okay, because you really like him!
>Wisps/Hursih: Strange manifestations of spiritual energy. Are actually really nice, and even gave you a small tour of the Palace. You can't really tell them apart though.
>Dr Spanko: The greatesteth Doctor in the fourth crackledoodle! Cack! NeinNeinNein is much gratitudes for friendiest goldojellodip on the swimming pole!
>Lord Theodore Thomas Blackwood: Gentleman explorer, dashing hero and collector of the strange. One of the finest companions you could ever ask for, Foundation or otherwise

Unknowns
>The Mysterious Stranger: A man in a red suit stuck(?) in a wheelchair who saved you following an incident in an Arcadian Realm. Seems friendly enough, but he gives you an odd feeling.

Previously on 999 Quest:

You had successfully entered the realm of Arcadia (thanks Vuindred), and almost immediately had to fight for your life against horrors unimaginable. After getting yourself decently versed in the law of the land, you flew off across a raging battlefield, towards a giant structure of unfathomable power, met two old friends and clashed against the powerful Actors of the Arcadian domains. Which ultimately ended up with you in a 'place' of deepest crushing black, saved only by a mysterious wheelchair-bound man in red.

And now, you're once more moving through dimensions to reach your friends. You can't feel the presence of the unknown stranger anymore however. And it seems like you're approaching the end of your trip.

What are your plans once you exit?

>Meet up with our friends so they wouldn't have to worry about us anymore and afterwards... Work on finding that artefact Vuindred asked for perhaps
With your plans resolved in your mind, you push forward into the spiral of light, which quickly envelops you in its embrace.

Suddenly, you're jerked forward and out and end up splatting face flat on the ground. How pleasant. You can almost understand how 682 feels about dimensional travel.

As you move your form to look around you, you can see giant towers of gold and gleaming ivory, along with fountains (also covered in gold) floating in the air. This place seems pretty nice so far.

>Try to look for anything alive.... and hug it!
You move about a bit to readjust your body, and then proceed to move towards the gleaming towers. And nearly fall over the edge of the ground you're currently on.

As you back up in a bit of a fright, you realize that you're standing directly on top of the thaumaturgic engine that Blackwood had been tinkering with, embedded directly into the golden flooring beneath you. As you look over to the side, you can clearly see the main emitter system still radiating heavy amounts of power, tinted somewhat gold around the edges of it.

But that raises the question; where's Spanko and Blackwood?
>>

>Closely examine the engine and emitter system.
You move towards the central obelisk, which is steadily releasing motes of gold-tinted thaumaturgic energy into the air, odd runes of white and gold energy moving across it suddenly and fading just as simply. It seems like the engine is harvesting magical power from the space around it in order to charge itself. How interesting. It would indeed be a worthy use of time to explore this device's inner-workings.
>Knowledge increased. A Trait shall soon attain realization within you
>Your understanding of metaphysical constructs has partially grown

But before any of that, you've got to find your friends.

You begin looking around for anything that might enable you to safely get down to the ground below. As you look around, you note several small structures steadily growing in and around the main structure surrounding you. Is it...self-generating?

Shaking your head, you continuesearching and eventually manage to find an odd 'bridge' of obsidian growth connecting to the ground below. Doesn't look very stable, but it'll have to do for the moment.

You stretch your body to an obscene degree to evenly distribute your weight, and proceed to slide across the bridge, which rocks and shoes under your movements. Only barely does the structure hold itself together.

As you move across it, you can see that the 'ground' the bridge connects to is an entire sea of molten gold, with pillars and odd structures rising out of the bubbling and twisting mass. Likely explains why this thing us so rickety, it's being literally melted away!

You transform into a bird as you near the boiling sea of gold, and fly high up. And as you look around, you can better see just how screwed up this place is. It's like a golden spiral folding in upon itself, with pillars and buildings and all kinds of impossible structures all floating about near a central point. You try it look further in, but the sheer impossibility of it all sends your mind into a screaming fit and almost knocks you from the air.

You refrain from looking at the general structure of this place, and instead start searching for oyur friends. And as you start focusing on that, you can hear the tell-tale sounds of a certain Doctor, right below you.

"Its good to see you as well, 999 my lad." comes the voice of Sir Blackwood, who had sidestepped your divebomb hug entirely. "I take it you also emerged ontop of the thaumaturgic device as we had? We never saw you when we initially got here, my boy."

"Perhaps. He could be any number of entities, all of varying levels of power. The fact that he was willing to both help you and accept gifts from you without asking for anything in return rules out a majority of those, yes. But the remainder..." Blackwood goes silent once more near the end.

You move forward towards one of the creatures, as Blackwood leaps from one golden pillar to the next (seriously, how does he move that fast?) and Spanko darts through the air. As you reach the creature, its leg shudders and erupts in a spray of boiling black blood and gleaming golden daggers, barely giving you enough time to jump out of the way.

As the creatures leg ceases to unleash a wave of toxins and bladed implements at you directly, you dart forward and slam a limb on the beasts leg. A wave of white flame spreads up the leg form your area of impact, and begins to melt and boil at the beast, which unleashes a truly horrendous noise, bordering on an unnatural mixture of a groan and a giggle. Suddenly, a shockwave of blazing crystalline erupts outward, and swipes at the twin abominations assaulting you and your allies. Their bodies simultaneously freeze and melt, parts of them cracking open and oozing like weeping sores across their bodies. Blackwood and Spanko both proceed to dive in and hammer away at the weakened frames of both of the aberrations, smashing chunks of them into nothingness and causing boiling black blood and gleaming blades to fly out in every direction.

It doesn't put a stop to the laughter however. If anything, the insane giggling only increases with with the damage the things sustain.

What the hell? You begin uproraiously laughing alongside the twin monstrosities, your laughter eventually growing such that you easily drown both out. Take that, you beasts!

Almost immediately, the creatures shudder backward and slowly but surely twist their heads from Blackwood and Psanko striking at them towards you, their bodies cracking and sputtering as they do so. Personally, you think you did a pretty good job at it.

The creatures however, would argue otherwise. Their bodies writhe and shudder even move violently, and a loud 'scratching' noise, like constant booming static tears through your head, amd seemingly knocks both Blackwood and Spanko to the ground from the sheer force of it. You're at first worried that this might be some means of taking you all out of the fight so that they can finish you off, but it quickly becomes apparent that this isn't the case as you watch the creatures collapse and shatter into millions of pieces along the ground.

You quickly recover yourself from the damage done, and move over to Spanko and Blackwood, who are still fumbling about on the ground in pain, touching them with your limbs to lessen their own pain. As you do so, you can see them steadily beginning to recover and grab their bearings.

"My lad, next time, some forewarning would be preferred." Blackwood says as he pushes himself up somewhat.

"Agreedforth!" Spanko shares, flapping his wings in irritation, but remaining on the ground.

You make yourself look somewhat sheepish, and offer apologies to the two of them, before proceeding to ask what those things were.

"Guardians most likely. A means of erasing any entity that enters this place and hasn't been otherwise absorbed." Blackwood states as he pokes and prods at some of the remains. "A truly fascinating level of construction went into these however, their very forms both imperfect and yet all too suited towards the task of desturction."

You decide to follow what few 'tracks' the Guardians left behind, bubbling wounds in the golden stone itself. And as you all continue forth, you can see it. A massive structure of gleaming gold and twisting ivory, distant and yet all too near. Even now, you can feel the utterly oppressive air of it in spite of the distance between you. It most assuredly sits squarely in the center of this.

"That must be our target then, the source of the Guardians, of this entire realm most likely." Blackwood confirms. "I take it that you're both prepared for this?"

Out of the twisting, bubbling golden ocean arise towers of and statues. The perfect color for you and Spanko to move and dart closer to the massive structure at the heart of it all. You also start humming a theme you heard one of the Foundation scientists listening too.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=XAYhNHhxN0A

Having shifted into bird form, you can easily keep up with Spanko (who has remained oddly quiet thus far) as you move from cover to cover, it you quickly realize that having this speed might not small that much, as you see several more of those Guardians patrolling about near the massive structure. It's going to be difficult to get any closer with them around.

The creatures almost immediately descend upon what once acted as your cover, their forms rapidly gyrating as they descended like locusts upon the position from which the noise came. You and Spanko only barely manage to escape from the shield of the tower before it collapses under the force of the Guardians dogpiling it, both of you declining straight for the giant golden structure before you.

As you push towards the golden construct, you can see it more clearly, see it for the abomination against all that it is. The Guardians are embedded in its walls, frozen for a time and then dripping and spilling out of it like maggots from a rotting carcass, the very walls of the structure expanding and contracting in all too organic movements. And behind it all, you can almost feel the structure staring down at you, hungrily prying at everything that you are.

You pull out your Dream Trinket, motion for Psanko to fly higher up to avoid the bleed off and start channeling your power into the Trinket. The air stills.

With a massive rush of twisting air and freezing flame, power explodes outward all at once, smothering the pulsating structure and its nightmarish spawn, eliciting a scream of pure rage and agony form the thing as it freezes over and burns up all at once. Immediately, you can hear the screams of the Guardians you tricked joinining the greater chorus of the thing and rushing towards you at full speeds. Spanko cacks up in the air as the Guardians speed onwards.

You move to the freezing, boiling, screaming thing and proceed to hug it, your touch immediately making it go up in purifying flames. Mixing in with the effects of the Snow-Storm, you watch as it melts a hole just large enough for you and Spanko to pass through into the greater mass of the 'structure'.

Glad to be of assistance
Example:
Situation: You hear a sound coming from the bush
>jump into the bush and attack? (Roll 100d)
>hide and wait for it to come out? (Roll 100d)
>create a distraction?
>attempt communication?
>cast (insert spell name) to (insert effect here) (roll 100d)

I'll give out some prompts for situations that generally require it. But most of the time I leave it up to the players to decide on an appropriate course of action when it comes to dealing with some things.

Of course, a lot of the 'choppyiness' of Quest 3 in comparison to the first two can be blamed primarily on me and my studies. And for that, I apologize.

No worries man, studies always come first.

Advance, explore this new place with your companion. And listen out for Blackwoods beacon.

>Advance, explore this new place with your companion. And listen out for Blackwoods beacon.
You signal to Spanko to rush on in, as the Guardians screech and flail just outside, limbs reaching up to try and tear the corncrake torn. Luckily (for both of you), Spanko managed to almost casually evade all of the assaulting forms, and darted through the opening you had ripped open, with you following close behind not long after.

As the opening closes itself back up, you and Spanko look out across the chaotic and shifting city before you. A living city of hateful gold and chaos, with Guardians and other even more unpleasant entities strewn about it. Creatures vile beyond reasoning, working towards inscrutable and yet all too familiar goals. And now Blackwood is somewhere amongst it, searching for answers, whilst you and Spanko await his signal with quiet hope.

But you're sure that you'll be okay. You have your friends. And together, you can't lose.

Because I'm legally obligated to do so, I must ask whether or not you all enjoyed this quest and what questions you might have regarding setting or certain characters.

i enjoy it i just wonder how did they come here or have they not yet come to scp?
>>
>>2896032
I'm enjoying it, my only real criticism would be that some prompts would be appreciated. A bit at a loss on what do sometimes or where to go next, so I tend to just say "hug x". Any chance we're going to run into humans from the foundation at some point? Or SCP "God?"

>>2896241
Isn't ''God'' just a really powerful type green

Dunno, I meant SCP-343

Yeah I was talking about him

I went to sleep after my last post, which is why I didn't roll and such.

Personally, I think it's fine to leave it open-ended, since there's lots of room for a creative response. If there's a multiple choice selection then it's highly unlikely that anyone would pick an unlisted option, making the quest more boring and predictable. For OP, players, and lurkers alike.

However, an open-ended update from the OP does take more time to get a response, because it takes me longer to think of something interesting to say or do, and some people can't even respond at all without an obvious prompt.

I think that a good compromise would be if you keep making open-ended posts as usual, but then if no one responds in 30-60 minutes, make another post giving us more detail of what's happening and a nudge or clue of what to do. Or another idea would be if you say that 999 himself was unsure of what to do, so he just stood there indecisively waiting, and something happened on it's own because of our inaction.

Thank you for the excellent advice (and the odd mental image of 999 just faffing about).

He's currently doing some stuff to keep reality from getting even more fucked over, alongside some other benevolent higher powers (you've already encountered the agent of one). You might encounter a manifest avatar however.

If anyone's interested I think I figured out who that librarian from the first thread was http://www.scp-wiki.net/a-wandsman-in-the-court-of-the-hanged-king

You got most of them, but the "Undying City" was actually Alagadda, whilst the Hateful Flesh would've been Yaldabaoth.

Also, I just noticed that I haven't archived this yet. Going to go do that.

Also, caught sick. Quest might be somewhat delayed (though I'm not adverse to running a sidequest if things don't pick up).

>SCP 914 test
Input: 500mL sample of SCP-999
Setting: Very Fine
Output: A small, spherical sphere of translucent, azure-colored slime roughly 12cm in diameter, with a strong garlic-like odor. Found to be mobile and sentient, and capable of making gurgling, chirping vocalizations similar to SCP-999 but at a much deeper pitch. The entity, designated "E-999-A", was immediately hostile to all staff, attempting to either leap upon researchers' faces or "headbutt" their shins via rolling across the floor at high speed, though its small size and mass prevented it from doing more than mild bruising.

E-999-A was eventually contained and presented to SCP-999, with the assumption that this was its "offspring", and that SCP-999 could teach it to become more docile. SCP-999 instead reacted with immediate hostility, attacking E-999-A with its pseudopods while E-999-A rolled around SCP-999, emitting loud "growling" and "snarling" noises while dodging. SCP-999 finally eliminated E-999-A roughly two minutes later via engulfing it with two pseudopods, rapidly dissolving E-999-A inside its body similar to how SCP-999 digests its meals.

No change in SCP-999's color or demeanor following the incident has been noted, however, it is the first and thus far only time that SCP-999 has ever reacted to anything with hostility or violence. Further research involving SCP-999's slime is temporarily suspended save for researchers with at least Level 3 clearance, and any experiments involving SCP-999 and SCP-914 are completely prohibited. Mentioning E-999-A to SCP-999 results in it immediately "ignoring" whoever speaks to it, often by wandering off to play with a nearby object or person.

This is why you don't cross-test with 914, kids. The mad scientist only cares for what it can make from what you give it.
