Celebrating yesterday’s victory certainly was something. Thankfully this time there was no illicit alcohol drinking because nobody thought to sneak any in and even if they did the judges would’ve found out anyway. You rub your eyes and look over and see Winona. She’s lying back in a laidback pool chair, wearing only a white bikini, holding one of those sun reflectors. Ah. “Winona.” You step up to her, scratching at your head. “Building up a tan in the middle of the fall?”“We’re in the desert,” says Winona. “It’s the perfect chance to build up a tan.” She pulls up her sunglasses, smirking at you. “Wanna do it with me? I tell you something, this sun is absolutely scorching. Just look at this!” She pulls a strap down to reveal a slight tan-line. “Another hour or two and I’ll be nice and crisp!”“I think I’ll pass,” you say. “Have you seen the others.”“Yeah, Stack and Duchess actually shook hands and they haven’t moved from that spot in about…” She checks the clock on her armrest. “An hour.” Eh? She points over yonder. There you see Stack and Duchess engaged in a free floating arm-wrestling contest, their muscles bulging as they stare each other in the eye. “What’s the matter, Duchess?” Stack grins, sweat beading down her cheeks. “They got you pushing too many buttons in your Jagdpanther?”“Make it easy on yourself, Tex,” says Duchess. “Or maybe all that muscle is going to your head too!”Many of the girls stand around, watching, silently taking bets as to who’s going to win. Ingrid and Josephina watch as well. Josephina appears concerned for Stack’s life, holding a bottle of water and a cold towel while Ingrid simply returns texts on her phone.> Yeah, better go stop them.> Eh, maybe join Winona for a bit. Stack looks over, then her eyes widen upon seeing you. “Elodie!” she calls.“Stack.” You fold your arms. “I’m betting on you.” She blinks, apparently horrified by something. “Finish her.”Stack gasps, then she grins at Duchess. Duchess gasps as well, suddenly surprised because now Stack has claimed a second wind. Stack starts pulling Duchess’ arm downwards. Slowly but steadily. Duchess puts everything she’s got into simply delaying the inevitable. Not even the cheers of Duchess’ crew can help her now. “AAAAHHH!” Stack screams as she finally forces Duchess’ arm down. Duchess lets go, panting intensely. “Woohoo!” Stack throws her arms up, then gives high tens over to Ingrid and Josephina.“Knew you had it in you,” says Ingrid. “Unlike Josephina.”“I’m just being careful.” Josephina offers a bottle of water to Stack, who immediately squeezes it in her hand to pop the cap before taking a hearty swig of it. “We are in the desert after all. No need to dehydrate oneself so needlessly.”“Ahaha, but no. Josephina’s right.” Stack smirks, looking at the two of them. “Ingrid, if you want to grow up big and strong like me, you gotta hydrate! That’s key!”Ingrid looks –down- at Stack. “Big, eh?” Stack snorts, rolling her eyes. “Don’t they say things are bigger in Texas? And yet…” Ingrid motions at her chest, smirking more intensely.“Ugh, don’t even start.” Stack looks over at you. “Elodie, my hype woman. What’s the haps? How ya feeling?”“Just fine.” You step on over to her and pat her shoulder. She flinches a little. Hm, hiding a bit of pain are we? “I knew you had it all the way.” Stack beams, patting her chest happily. “You girls doing alright?”Ingrid says, “Yeah. Griselda says she’s got plans for the next round. People are going to be watching the Eastern League matches over lunch though. Kursk Girls Boarding School versus Zhou Enlai.” Hmph. Both sides are strong. It really could go to either person.”“But you want Oryola to win,” says Ingrid.“Oh so badly,” you say quickly. “But like anything else, we’ll have to wait and see. They’re formidable. And in the end, we have to focus on our next opponent.”“Yeah, we weren’t paying attention to the match yesterday,” says Ingrid. “Stack. Do you know who won yesterday besides us?”“Christie, over Heinlein,” she explains. Oh? “Her big tanks wrecked Heinlein and pushed their shit in. Wasn’t even much of a match as it was a massacre.” You can’t see Dix being too happy about that. You’re disappointed you missed that match too. But alas, you at least know now that J. Walter Christie Polytechnical Institute will be your next opponent. “Joan D’Orleans is facing St. Gloriana too tonight. Should be another interesting matchup I do believe.”“Right. You girls got breakfast?” They all nod. “Alright. Well, it’s a free day up until dinner. That’s when we need to pack up for our next destination, alright? You roll your eyes, putting on a set of sunglasses as you lay back. “Want a swimsuit so you can build up a tan?”“No thanks. I just want to rest back and relax,” you say.Winona pouts, looking at you. “Aw. But what if Jeep Jockey likes tan lines?”“He would… tan lines?” What in God on rollerskates is she talking about, tan lines? You turn to her, confused. She looks at you with a very smug grin on her face. “Okay, explain.”“Tan lines are all the rage,” says Winona. “See, boys have this weird thing for those bits of skin that haven’t been tanned in the sun. Weird, I know. But it’s why I’m wearing a swimsuit and not going full nude. Well, that and the fact that they told us not to sunbathe nude.” Well, duh. “But listen, Jock would love it.”“You don’t know what Jock would love.” Hmph. Tan lines…“Trust me. It’s just one of those weird things,” says Winona. She shrugs. “Same thing with armpits.” … what!? You stare at her again. Okay, she’s taking the piss with you now. Armpits? What is she going to say next, that Jock wants to lick your forehead or something? She raises her arm, revealing her incredibly bare armpits. “It’s why I get my armpits waxed. That and because I hate the feeling of armpit hair. What about you?”“Mine haven’t grown in yet,” you say.She frowns. “Hmph, lucky.” She leans in. “Seriously, Ellie. You should take pride in your appearance.”“I do. I put on makeup every day like any normal girl,” you say. “You think I’m ugly or something?”“Yes.” She what. Winona snickers. “Kidding. No, I think you would look –stunning- with the right makeover and the right clothes. Don’t you get tired of wearing your uniform all the time?” No. “What about just putting your face on and… that’s it? Ever try eyeliner or fake eyelashes or a little bit of blush on the cheeks or lipstick?” That’s for special occasions like balls and dances, not for everyday appearances. She gasps. “… have you ever done your hair in a style that wasn’t just a ponytail?” You did your hair up in pigtails once in the 6th grade and you’ve regretted it since. “Come on! And a freshly cut uniform will not do the trick.” She snaps her finger. “Once we get back to LGA, it’s time for a shopping spree and you are the dress-up doll.” Gee. Wonderful.Though you’ll admit, you won’t object to the idea of spending more time with Winona. Heck, maybe you can find some more classy stuff Jock might be interested in like sweaters or something. Sweaters would actually be good for the cold once the winter rolls around. You lie back and sigh, shutting your eyes.……You feel a tap at your arm. Eh? You open your eyes again and see Griselda, wearing a straw hat as she looks down at you. “This is new, tanning while wearing a uniform.” You give her the finger in response. “Ha ha, funny.” You sit up, looking at her. “How you doing, Ellie?”“Just fine,” you say. “I was having an ice nap before you interrupted.”“Aw.” Griselda purses her lips, pouting mockingly. “You want me to tell you a bedtime story, baby?” You roll your eyes again. “So you can go back to sleep?” Please. “Seriously though, you good? Kursk has found excellent high ground on their side of the frozen fields of Siberia while Zhou Enlai has to go out looking for them. All the crews have assembled on picnic tables, watching the match on a big screen. You munch on a sandwich, watching closely. Again, ZES is armed primarily with the Centurion tanks. But now they number over thirty, not to mention Kursk has thirty of their own tanks as well with Oryola in her famed ISU-152.And yet, Mei is looking for a fight.“I gotta say.” Hadley sits down next to you, leaning on the table. “I’m not particularly a big fan of Oryola’s tactics.” Oh? You’d like to hear a reason for that. “Camping and waiting for the enemy is one thing. But camping and waiting when you have the superior tanks and tech?” Hadley shakes her head a little. “Strikes me as cowardly.”Stack shrugs. “That’s patience for you. Oryola has won tournaments with that schtick quite a bit. She came close a year or two back but Ooarai knocked them out.” She chews furiously on some fried chicken as you watch.Hadley grunts. “What do you make of it, Elodie?”> “Oryola’s my personal Tankery hero. If it works, it works,” you say.Hadley looks at the screen then says, “Well, then, I’ll root for her.” She smiles at you. “Can’t go wrong with you.” Of course not. Mei continues to rush at the KGB positions.Wait.She’s just rushing their positions?Wait no. You take a look at the map screen. The ridge they hold is along a wide front. Although KGB has ten T-34-85s set to the flanks, all their casemates are pointing outwards in a single direction towards Mei’s incoming advance. You watch however as Mei splits her advance in an uneven fashion, twenty five tanks to one approach, five including herself to the other. She’s going to take them instead from two directions. The vast majority of her tanks draw the attention of the casemates, who pound away at them. In the approach, several of the Centurions are lost, even while popping smoke and firing their own suppressive barrages.“I have to say, this looks to be the fastest Kursk has ever been engaged in combat!” says one of the commentators. “It appears Mei is directly throwing herself right into Kursk’s strongest positions to seek out a direct fight!”“It’s a bold strategy, Cotton, let’s see if it pays off for them!” says the other commentator.Everyone watches intensely as Mei leads the charge. Despite being the flag tank and being the biggest target, she slips, slides, and dodges incoming shells like no one’s business. Her escorting four tanks take the opportunity and begin firing their own responses. That flank is getting rolled up slowly and steadily while the other side gets thrown into an absolute meatgrinder of a brawl. And at the center of the line, Oryola tries to figure out which side to engage in.Stack leans in. “Still confident?”> Boast> Neutral> Polite

> BoastYou nod. “Of course.” Oryola has this. Mei is taking a really reckless risk doing this. And yet, you watch as she just dances around Kursk’s tanks like they’re not even there. She fires a round here and there, knocking one out or immobilizing another while her big force ties down the much larger wing of Oryola’s line. It’s here that Oryola decides Mei is the biggest target, and ending her would end the match entirely. Her ISU-152 fires, just as Mei begins to close in. Mei fires a smoke round, smashing into Oryola’s front armor. The white smoke explodes out and provides and obscuring screen. Big enough to allow Mei to close the distance. Everyone is on the edge of their seats as they watch. This can’t be… Mei’s just running in to face her! Oryola can’t go down that easily, can she?Mei pops out of the smoke, aiming to come down the side of Oryola’s ISU. Oryola tries to face her tank around. But Mei responds by crossing around the front of their barrel, feinting Oryola. She slides around, facing her entire tank into Oryola’s side and fires.KO.The match didn’t even last an hour. For someone famed to drag out matches for days, Oryola was beaten so quickly. She pops out of her hatch and sighs, smacking her head on the top of the hull while Mei simply drives away. Everyone is quiet, shocked that such a thing would happen in such a manner.Oryola Kuznetsov was eliminated.

As you can see we start on opposite sides relatively close to each other. But don’t let that fool you. A straight shot isn’t the best way to go here in my opinion. This lake is going to allow for long flanking maneuvers, which Perrine is likely to pull off. But just as likely she’ll probably ford tanks underneath the lake surface too to get at us from behind. If we give her time, she’ll get up to her usual shenanigans.” Griselda nods, understanding. “What do you think though?”“I think a direct rush would be good. Her style of command and the way she builds her roster isn’t made for brawling,” she says. “She’s got a lot of unique tanks that just aren’t built for it. And if we close the distance quickly and efficiently, we might just be able to pull it off. But Perrine isn’t going to go down like she did to us last time. She’s got the Ardeer Aggie after all now, she can actually fight us at decent ranges this time. Not to mention that she’ll have learned whatever else lessons we taught her from last time. We should be careful with a direct assault.”“Agreed.” Iris leans over the table, looking the overall map. She points to the road. “If we approach down this road here all at once, it’ll turn into a bloodbath. But if we send Elodie and our fast tanks down this road here, we’ll pincer here and trap her. That is, if she chooses to stay there for whatever reason.”“Right.” Griselda says, “So I guess we’re all agreed. Offense is a good defense. That lake is going to trap her instead of help her. Not unless she has some kind of tunneling tank or something.” You all nod. “Great. We’ll adjust the plan as we see fit once we see their roster tomorrow. Ellie, Iris, good luck to you both.”Iris bows. “A lady does not need luck.”“Ugh, just take my good luck, Iris.” Griselda bops Iris on the head gently, to which Iris quickly corrects the hair that’s disturbed from the impact. I see your point.” She takes a sip of tea, sighing deeply. “I will say, it will be disappointing if we don’t at least make it to the finals. Even more so if we get knocked out during them. To think that we would get so far and have victory be in our grasp, and then have it be swindled from us.”“Iris, trust me.” She looks at you again, questioning look on her face. “If they beat us. They deserve the win. Because we sure as hell won’t make it easy on them.”“Of course.” She nods. “Terribly sorry to bore you with my insecurities, Elodie.” You shake your head. No apologies is necessary, honestly. If anything, it’s good for Iris to open up. She needs to do that more with everyone. Regardless, she does have a point that you can see. Teams like Sherbrooke, Mariano da Silva Rondon, Camp Gagetown, George Washington, they all deserve a shot at the finals in your opinion. But they likely won‘t for a very long time. But you assure yourself this one thing as you and Iris walk out of the tent. You won’t be seeing LGA win the NATO finals from the grandstands as an adult. You’ll be seeing LGA win the NATO finals from the turret of your tank.
We're done for this weekend. Hope you all enjoyed because next time we run, it's LGA versus J. Walter Christie. Two teams enter, one team leaves.Follow at: https://twitter.com/GermanSchteelAnd if you ever feel like shooting the shit with me, you can hit me up in my discord: https://discord.gg/9e9yvfvSee you next time.
