Dozens of wooden benches and tables with food and drink lie before you. Hundreds of men celebrate their recent victory against the orc scum. The sound of jovial music and roaring laughter fills the air as you look around, Ulric and Alina are with you right now but you want to speak with some specific people before the night's over. Ulric taps you on the shoulder.
Ulric: "Hey, I'm going to put my feet up."
He gestures over to a massive keg surrounded by overexcited guardsmen.
Ulric: "See ya later!
>"Down some brews for me"
Alina smiles at you and starts gently playing with her hair.
Alina: "Well I guess it's just the two of us now"
>"Hey can you see Salaman anywhere? I've got some business to discuss with him"
Alina looks down at her feet.
Alina: "Oh... right."
You scan the crowd and you can see some bluish light coming from the base of a large major god statue, it's the same colour as Salaman's aura.
>"There he is"

You approach Salaman, he slides off the statue base he was sitting on and greets you.
Salaman: "Christof. Just the man I wanted to see."
>"Huh? What is it?"
He levitates four spells into view, primed for automatic spellbook transcription.
Salaman: "I've acquired some new spells, some I took for myself but I think these abjuration spells will complement your repertoire nicely. My gift to you."

Resist Magic (ABJURATION II)
Protection From Arrows (ABJURATION II)
Lesser Globe of Invulnerability (ABJURATION IV)
Immunity To Weapons (ABJURATION V)

>"Wow thanks, some of these are quite high end."
You activate the scrolls and they assimilate into your spellbook letter by letter.
>"How did you get these?"
Salaman: "Some orc shaman were trying to escape the town with a bunch of arcana, I intercepted and destroyed them. Looted some nice spells for us."
>"I wanted to ask you about the globe I took earlier..."
Salaman: "Ah yes, the crystal ball. I'm no diviner but I used to sneak into my father's study to use his when I was a boy. With you, I could probably use this to spy on someone or some place you have a personal connection to, although, being spied on can be "sensed", especially by someone untrained, it's possible your target will find out he's been looked at. Worst case scenario he will know who's looking at him. It can probably do other stuff, but I'm not skilled in its operation."
You stand there in thought.
Salaman: "Well? Who do you want to look at?"

>"I haven't seen my family in a long time..."
Salaman: "Using a crystal ball on your parents at night time? Might not like what you see."
He hovers his hands over the crystal ball and fog starts forming inside. It clears revealing your parents fast asleep in each others arms. You feel warm inside reminisce some of your childhood in that home, you come from a peasant family but you were at least on the high end of wealth for your class.
You like living in the king's palace but at times you miss this place.
>"Can I see my brother Terryn?"
Salaman pans his hands around the orb and it creates a new image, one of a guard asleep at his post.
Sleeping on the job again. Typical of Terryn, you do feel an iota of pride for him seeing that he's earned his bronze armour.

Salaman: "Sure, we spend every day with her, she'll be really easy to scry."
The fog clears revealing Alina sitting alone, she looks a little bit down.
Some dweeb comes up to her.
>"Who's that?"
Salaman: "I don't know, some Clarcton soldier."
>"Can you get sound on this thing"
Salaman: "Umm let's see... I think... got it!"

Dweeb: "I wanted to thank you."
Alina: "Huh? Thank me?"
Dweeb: "I was in that cage you know, you saved us from those crooked shaman."
Alina averts her gaze and blushes.
Alina: "Oh, you're welcome haha"
The dweeb scootches closer to her.

You either don't care about Alina's relationship status or think the dweeb has no chance with her, either way you pay little mind to the scene.
>"That's cute, moving on... how about Ulric."
Salaman: "Here goes"

Ulric has wandered off from the party. The happy demeanor he displayed earlier is gone. He stands contemplatively over a field of shallow graves.

Salaman: "Poor guy."

A vision gradually appears, there's no sound however. Devon stands, brazenly wearing the armour of the royal clerical knights of Uthain. Some of his bandit minions that you faintly recognise are around him. They're all huddled around a flaming sword like it's a camp fire.
Their location is some very decrepit structure, the walls made of stone chunk indicate it might be some sort of military fortification building.
>"Where are they?"
Salaman: "I don't know, I can only see them I can't get their global coordinates"
>"A flaming sword, they come across some powerful equipment since we last saw them"
Salaman: "Hmm yes, we should hunt them down and take all their stuff"
The orb start going dark.
Salaman: "Hmm I think this thing is getting tired."

>"Alright just making sure, say can you take a look at Xorag's cloak?"
Salaman: "Well, I recently made a break-through with my magic sense, I could try it out on your cloak."
You take it off and hand it to him.
Salaman: "Hmmm, feels like some powerful, but inelegant protection magic is infused into this. Probably an heirloom for orc chiefs. You'll need a diviner or magic shop keeper to identify its exact effects all I can say for sure is it will make you harder to kill somehow."
>"Well thanks for all your help Salaman, I'm going to go check on Hack Ravage, make sure he's okay"
Salaman: "Let me know when you want to use that crystal ball again."

You find Hack Ravage shortly afterwoods. His eyes are wrapped up in bandages.
>"Hello Hack Ravage"
Adhemar: "Christof? Is that you? Please call me Adhemar."
You sit down next to him.
>"Will your eyes be okay?"
Adhemar: "It's not as bad as you might think, they can still see barely. The great oak's healing will mend them in time. Anyway, i'd like to give you this."

>"Where'd you learn to fight?"
Adhemar: "I've been sparring in the arena with real weapons for years. You don't even have to hold back within the regeneration field. I have a lot of 1v1 combat experience. To be honest, today was the first time I had to fight without regeneration."
>"We should duel some time."
Adhemar: "I welcome the challenge, but know that I never pull my punches, not even for a friend"
>"Do you know anything about the wish granters?"
Adhemar: "Not personally, I know the fall of Aflor's monarchy was around 100 years ago, there are some people in Aflor that are over 100 years old that might have first hand knowledge like the mad witch of the mire, the dragon Bruldronth, and Bingle."
>"Do you know where I can find any of these people?"
Adhemar: "The mad witch lives in the Swamp of Death I don't know how safe she is to talk to or if she's actually reall, the dragon has a lair in Delorrose Peaks, he's not some psycho burn the countryside dragon but I think you're supposed to bring him a gift of treasure if you visit him, Bingle lives in Oakheart, never leaves his house he looks very ordinary but I've looked up his fight records in the arena, unless he first fought as a baby he must be over 100."
>"That's... odd"
Adhemar: "Well anyway I'm going to call it a night."
>"Do you need any help?"
Adhemar: "I'll call a servant, relax."

>"Arch Duke is an unusual title, aren't you the king of Aflor?"
Lockridge: "Aha well" he averts his eyes and scratches his nape "I am descended from the royal family but we're a protectorate of the Lasal Empire. The emporer said Aflor is allowed to have an autocrat but the title has to be empire approved, Arch Duke is the title we chose.

>"How do you feel about Aflor's situation? It's never been the same since Tywardreath fell has it?"
Lockridge: "Well being part of the empire isn't all that bad, we've got to pay imperial taxes and they built some mines in our land but we depend on them for economic and military stability."
>"Military stability? I didn't see any imperial troops liberating Clarcton"
Lockridge: "They don't help us fight local monsters or stuff like the orc uprising but no one can invade us without declaring war on the empire. I live a good life but I wish my people didn't have to suffer being and I quote 'imperial bitches' ."

>"What's the soap tax?"
Lockridge: "I did not make that law! I only approved it! People have to pay extra talons every year and my government uses the money to produce and distribute soap for the people. It was supposed to be this small thing to help prevent diseases but the peasants really hate it."
>"..."

>"What are you going to do now?"
Lockridge: "I've decided to hunt the orcs to the last. Part of me says it's unethical but I think it's a necessary evil. After we finish disposing of the bodies I'll send most of the men home and use the remaining forces to search and destroy".

>"Did you know there's an enclave of evil wizards kidnapping innocent people for nefarious purposes?"
Lockridge: *sigh* "I was not aware, If I send this army I have they'll probably get fireballed, best I can do is put a bounty on them and hope specialists like mercenaries or adventurers take them out. Thank you for telling me."

Lockridge: "Ah, yes. According to my parents it very much exists. They are otherworldly beings, with the power to alter reality on behalf of another. I don't know the whole story but it seemed like these beings were prisoners of my ancestors, used for their great power. I fear the undead scourge of Tywardreath may of been the vengeance of a wish granter rebelling against its task masters. Aflor's fall may of been a penance i'm afraid."
>"Where might I find them?"
Lockridge: "They would have been imprisoned in the most fortified locations in Aflor such as Malgrave or in the Aflor royal palace in Tywardreath. Both locations swarming with undead. I've commissioned expeditions into tywardreath before, but they are usually routed. Once I sent an expedition and not a soul returned. I couldn't bring myself to send any more after that."
>"Do know what they are capable of?"
Lockridge: "I know their power is supreme but not limitless, they can certainly fabricate powerful magic items, or a wealth of treasures. I think they also may be able to raise the dead."
Lockridge: "If you do ever find a wish granter, be very cautious when making your wish."

He turns away. I... would like for my people to be independent again. But Uthain alone isn't enough, your elite knights are legendary but what could they alone do against a stampede of cataphracts or a volley of hand cannons? The only thing that could keep Aflor independent was the wish granters. But, do you think you could convince the king to liberate Tywardreath? I could provide you with ample assistance in exchange for my capital. And although I don't really control it, I would also give my blessing for you to not just use a wish granter but take it back to Uthain.

This guy explained that the empire is not even doing anything to them worth rebelling over. The only people that gain here are some rich aristocrats and the people who will suffer are the peasants. I strongly urge that we keep out of political matters when there is so little for us to gain.
