Ierok is uncharacteristically silent in these days of war, and for once, there is a similarity there that can be found across the continent, and indeed, within each nation at war. However, there are a few places where that lack of sound has yet to strike—the capitals of both East Lopen and Lukidor, which, at the moment, have yet to hear the sound of Ieran boots upon their soil. In fact, neither has faced Ier in war, not truly. At least, until now.

(Once again I forgot to answer projects before war, so I'll begin with that, before continuing with the current situation; however, tonight's focus will be on the navy, making their way to foreign shores to strike before the East Lopen know what hit them.)

The weeks of travel on the seas are uneventful, but because of this, the men heading to East Lopen are restless. Perhaps it is the brutality of the actions they are about to undertake, but there are occasionally scuffles among the crew, though this is usually quelled before it can get out of hand. However, blockading a nation is nothing new, as the officers know from their studies; it was how Reptia was brought to heel. Still, it will be their first time putting it into practice, and as the men quit their rowing a few days before they are meant to spot the coast of East Lopen and take action, the anxiety remains. Though, for many, this is just excitement misconstrued, as the crewmen eat their dinners, regardless of mood, there is certainly an electric atmosphere aboard these boats.

CRITICAL SUCCESS

The first few arrows are like the first drops of rain before a downpour, and Rok, if it isn't cloudy here. Most arrows hit their mark and many of those that don't hit the dock anyway. Before long, the entire area is a sea of flame, and the few men on the pier still alive are running. The military ships, or what's left of them, float on the water, blackened and cracked. >>2836099

Send a messenger demanding the unconditional surrender of Eastern Lopen to the Tyranny of Ier.
>>
Sending a passenger boat ashore, within an hour the messenger has not returned. In fact, it appears the city is evacuating and moving inland and towards the east of this island, which is said to be more fortified than here.

What will you do?
>>
>>2836169

The navy shall then move to strike at the Lukidorian navy which is most likely stationed in the capital. Any messenger boats that we see shall be intercepted and destroyed.
>>
It is your belief that the majority of the Lukidor's vessels are in fact by their capital, which while located inland, has a small port town a middling distance from it that acts as the region's port, with a small river allowing lesser trade vessels by. This river becomes a medium sized canal within the city. At the same time though, some of your intelligence suggests there are ships of theirs located in their land on the island dominated by East Lopen, with some possibly biremes. This appears to have been hidden to prevent discovery by you as they made the transition but it appears that did not go according to their plan.

Naval commander, what will you do?
>>
>>2836216
Switch course to the location on the Eastern Lopen Island that we were just informed of. We must destroy the entire navy located on the Island that the Eastern Lopen Dominate.
>>
This will take you another week and a day of travel, as the location of the ships is said to be Blacktail Bay, a bay located just west of the most northeastern tip of the island.

Commander, is that agreeable?
>>
>>2836250
Yes, that is agreeable.
>>
Travel is easier this time, though when you near your destination, it begins to rain. However, it appears that once again, your intelligence was correct. As you reach the shore, it becomes apparent that between 35-40 ships are gathered here. On top of that, though it is hard to see through the rain, there is a sizable town here, though it appears abandoned. Riders must have reached here already, and it must have been recent, for these ships to have been left behind, assuming they made an estimate of how long it would take for you to reach here. Regardless, the ships are sitting ducks, and are taken out with volcanite arrows. However, now that you're in the area, some of the men suggesting docking for supplies. Officers are disagreeing however, stating that Lukidor has not yet acted in bad faith, and that you must wait for surrender, especially based on the line of reasoning that caused you not to shoot the crowd.

Naval commander, what will you do?
>>
>>2836320
Take as many supplies as we can as quickly as possible and then leave. We will spend no longer than 6 hours here.

The Lukidorians have left this town with all these perfectly good supplies empty, they have forfeited their right to them. Secondly, they are in an alliance with Eastern Lopen, they have not acted in bad faith, but they will in time.
>>
Moving on after a brief stop off for supplies, it takes you 8 days to reach the port town. That makes it the 33rd by the time you arrive; however, it appears that here, the reported (and fully corroborated) boats are missing, and the town abandoned.

Naval commander, what will you do?
>>
>>2836365
Deliver an offer of surrender to Lukidor.
If no begin full scale coastal raiding and blockade.
>>
>>2836375
Pretty much this.

Raid and burn, and then blockade.
>>
Sending a messenger boat along the river to deliver this ultimatum, he returns within four days, alive, unlike his presumably dead counterpart sent to the East Lopen. The answer is as follows:

"We of the Kingdom of Lukidor will not surrender. The mere fact that Ier sought to take down both the Kingdom of East Lopen and ourselves with a surprise attack is indicative of what we have warned of all along. The Tyranny of Ier is after nothing but domination, and its existence is hostile to peace itself. We attempted to evacuate Reptians who did not wish to live in their lands, and you made them second class citizens and forced them to where they do not belong. In Isarn, those who did similarly were outright crucified. If these are not the acts of a despot, we do not know what is. Murder civilians and burn down villages; you would do it to us gnolls regardless, but then let it be ghoulish and giant blood you shed as well. You are the enemy not of us, but of all. And if not stopped here, you will destroy us all.

The sun protects the legacy of the Prophet."

How will you begin your offensive measures?
>>
>>2836430
Our navy shall go along the coastlines. All villages along the coast shall be looted in the event they are abandoned, or simply burnt to the ground using Volcanite Arrows.

After we have thoroughly raided everything along the coast we will blockade the entirety of the islands and prevent any aid from coming in and out. (With the exception of the ringborn lands of course.
>>
Moving along the coastline, the first raids begin... however, that does beg a certain question; just where are the Lukidor ships that moved from this location?

The letters responding to you are as simple as they are biting.

First, from the Lukidor.

"We have not bullied our lessers into becoming subjects as you have, and indeed, we drove you nowhere. Your people, though fought against, surrendered, and we treated them with dignity and respect, whereas, unknown, on the other side of the sea, gnolls were enslaved and slaughtered by your kind. Who do we need protection against? None but you, yet you tell us to bow for it against enemies that do not exist. You are nothing but pondscum, and even if we fall, our legacy will remain one more thing tarnishing your bloody history."

And then the East Lopen.

"Kill us as you did our brothers then, with our sacrifice at least being willing."

***

LITTLE SUCCESS

Moving through, you find most of the villages abandoned, with what supplies they had usually taken. There is the odd one where it was clear that the people picked up what they had and left, but that twelve day gap to destroy their ships elsewhere, along with the time futilely spent trying to surrender appears to have allowed riders to travel most of the coast. You gather what you can get, and burn the rest, however, meaning that they will still have to rebuild as the cost for their petulance. The blockade is likewise enacted.

At the moment, the Sub-Tyrant has mostly let the Sholzgaetor clan also take control of the situation, though of course listening to the Riverisa on naval matters.

Alright then. As it stands, the western front was left off on the morning of the 31st, where plans were being drawn up to further engage the enemy. These numbers are a rough estimate of the enemy's casualties, along with accurate numbers of your own. Roughly 14,000 archers remain, along with 5,000 shrimp riders, 6,500 swamp giants (a term adopted there to distinguish the vaneads from plain giants), and roughly 42,000 of their infantry. The vast majority of your own casualties are gnollish. Morale is middling, though it has raised in recent days, and no particular issues affect the army, with such troops as the Dawn Riders and the Tribal Confederation's own cavalry also present.

Numbers on the Western Front

IERAN ARMY
326.5k uninjured
200 lightly injured (200 gnolls)
800 heavily injured (750 gnolls, 50 ghouls)

CRITICAL SUCCESS

Things go as planned, though casualty numbers are brought up by the vaneads, seeming to insist on a suicidal last stand. However, by the end of the month, all of the creatures have been wiped out, though there is no way forward to the ghouls, who scouts believe are located somewhere on the nearby island chain.

Commander, what will you do?
>>
>>2841545
Send a message to them calling for the return of territories they took to the tribal confederacy and if they can relay a message to the rebel ghouls about having a meeting with their leaders.
If they reject it then just continue with the night and day assaults.
>>
>>2841563
You have no way of continuing night and day assaults, what with the enemy army here wiped out and no sign of the ghouls, who, logically, must be on the island chain, as they can't breathe underwater. They would also have guards there, most likely. On top of that, you're also pretty sure the vanead army here was meant to guard the island chain from you all, though you're not sure why they didn't choose to flee into the water. What's more, with the masses of equipment recovered nearby clearly intended for reinforcements from the water, you're not sure what the enemy is thinking tactically.

The message sending is fine, but will you change anything else?
>>
>>2841575
Try and send a message asking for peace negotiations. We'll scavenge all the left over equipment we can and consume our fill of any corpses left.
>>
With a group sent in a hastily constructed boat, you gather the remaining supplies and equipment, while also feasting on the dead that is not yet rotting. Strangely, it seems that despite vanead meat (if it can be called that) boosting learning rates in the past, this more landbased breed appears to instead help digestion in some way, though you're not sure how. After a week the men are looking healther, but there is no sign of the envoys returning just yet.

Heading back to the towns closest to the islands, you begin to set up fortified areas, especially nearest the ocean. In Ierok, messengers from the jungle have reported the destruction of the mainland Marez army, though remainders of their population, as well as their army and the traitors against Ier are presumed to be on the islands, to which no path outside the treacherous sea route exists. In the jungle, not much has occurred, with the army having sent its envoys and now scouting to see if there are enemies nearby, and to see when, or rather if the diplomats will return. And on the sea, little is occurring now, though the applied naval and military pressure on both the Kingdoms of East Lopen and Lukidor is sure to be causing some form of strife within their own nations.

With both Daghs accepting (one more begrudgingly than the other, given his pacifism), both begin to move, reaching the location in the jungle within about two weeks. There, along with the mages, they spend the next few weeks constructing bridges between the islands, which seems a great feat to those gathered, and appears to be a significant strain on both of them as well. The Ringself Dagh in particular has to operate with the limitations of the ring in mind, though, with the help of bonded mages, he is able to assist, up until around a certain point (where the red circle is on the map), where the original Dagh had never set foot. On top of that, both Daghs confirm the water there is deeper, and to construct a bridge would be impossible for that distance. It is the 9th of the following month, Suwez, when that point is reached.

With the ships idling in the water, as they approach your vessels, an obvious question is shouted out:

"State your intentions!"

"Diplomacy," is the response you get, and the other party elaborates from there.

Apparently these ships had come into a skirmish with the Lukidorians, though neither side had particularly succeeded. It appears that this is not the only war that the nation you are fighting was involved in, though they were only using their naval power there, which is why their ships were not in port, rather than any hurried escape, which was only carried out by a few reserves. The nation these ships come from is Kwantur, gnollish as well, though of a similar size to the eastern gnolls, who they call the Nok. Their intentions here are to speak of a diplomatic agreement, though they have no intention of fighting in your wars; but by joining your navies together, they wish to help ensure the defeat of your mutual enemy, who they assure you the Lukidorian reserves were about to inform of your presence there.

Commander, what will you do?
>>
>>2846239
"We share a common enemy in Lukidor and we would not be against your assistance in felling them, what reward would your people seek from the fall of Lukidor?"
>>
>>2846252
“I am interested in this is well. And if there’s any more you can tell us about who you are?”
>>
Brought aboard the flagship of the Ieran navy, an envoy from Kwantur, called Ban Dan, is at a table within the cabin of the ship, along with the Sub-Tyrant and Commander. Of course, men are trying to listen in, others trying to pull them away, and even more trying to make themselves busy within the cabin, all curious as to what this strange new visitor, obviously a soldier himself, has to say.

That is to say, go ahead and talk yourselves, not just the commanders.

>>2846252
"We seek no particular reward," says the gnoll, "though increased diplomatic ties would always be possible between us if you were to hold this land. This is both a measure of good faith and revenge against our old enemy for bringing in foreigners into the war."

His grammar is slightly off, and his pronunciation is atrocious, though you catch the gist of it. You've already noted he has tablets by his side with some basic grammar advice written down. Seems they don't speak ghoulish.

"As for gnolls," his tongue significantly clearer uttering that phrase, "we think the same but for you."

"Are you deaf?" asks the gnoll, though he does appear concerned, and Gaeral's Seer companion indicates he is in fact being genuine.

"You understand, yes?"

***

Before saying goodbye, the gnoll explains a few more things; #1, they had tortured the Lukidorians into helping them with the language, and #2, that as the Lukidorians could be very, very vaguely understood (though having the help of some knowing the Nok tongue), they believe the Opetians might be similar, and ask for access to one soon. However, as Ban Dan returns to his ship and the interlopers are punished for trying to listen in on a private conversation (the sound of wood and leather on flesh being heard in the background), the commanders begin to share the news, and for these battle starved soldiers, it is certainly enough to get the blood boiling. With Ban Dan's estimates ranging from two to three weeks, the choice to engage now or later must be decided upon, but either way, there will be a skirmish. As the sun begins to dim, only one thing is on anyone's mind; the impending battle, which they are sure can only be a loss for the Lukidorians and Nok.

CRITICAL FAILURE

With the wind suddenly pulling you east rather than your normal west, along with some poor planning on the part of the lead ships of the navy, somehow, by the dawn of the 29th, a signal is sent to all the boats, if they hadn't seen the issue already; standing before your fleet is none other than the combined fleet of the Lukidorians and the Nok.

The chaos of the battle begins soon after.

Naval commander, what will you do? The ships are being arranged into a suitable formation, and as it is, both fleets are facing each other, neither particularly moving as they appear as in shock as you are. Thank Rok for small blessings, you suppose.

Both fleets move cautiously at first, taking defensive footings in the waters not even a week out from the Lukidorian coast. The wind blowing west gives you an advantage for ramming them, though at the same time, it could also lead to overcommittal, as they approach from mostly west of you. However, as you both begin to draw closer, a bonded mage from the Capans states that he can see them preparing volleys as you have, though they seem to be intent on firing them. This may be due to the other birds in the sky, a few of which don't appear native; their own mages, perhaps? Their ships also parallel your own, at least in number, with 75 biremes and 35 single deck galleys on their side and 120 biremes on yours. Of course, the bireme may make the difference for you here, as the cloud free sun begins to beat down on the shocked but rapidly enthused men in the light of the morning.

REGULAR FAILURE + CRITICAL SUCCESS
120 biremes vs 72 biremes + 24 single deck galleys

Those men who heard the words of Ban Dan a week or so ago have unfortunate flashbacks to the gnoll's response to their commander, except, instead of "Are you deaf?" they throw in a less kind word as the end of the sentence. Indeed, it would seem launching arrows that intend to set boats on fire would proclude ramming into them, but not to this Admiral. Altus Dzhuro bravely leads the charge as the arrows land... and miss, for the most part. However, the shock experienced by the gnolls unaccostomed to the strange metal is great, and what's more, even those who knew of it thought you were suicidal, and they are unprepared as your rams sink into their vessels, outright sinking at least one. A strange and uneasy laughter spreads throughout some of the men before it infects you all, not just at the absurdity of the situation, but to relieve the tension that has built up in these past few months.

And then you are upon them.

118 biremes + 2 biremes secured vs 67 biremes + 24 single deck galleys

Your initial engagements go very well, resulting in your attachment to the surrounding ships, though not as far back as the single galleys. With many men easily pulling in the surrounding boats with enough effort, the speed at which this is done easily allows you access to the gnolls, who while readied, are most definitely not experienced to seeing a ghoul fight, let alone your armor, weapons, and more. However, their polearms, a similar design to that of the Brotherhood's, are serving them somewhat. A scout has also spotted strange bow like weapons in the back, belonging to the Lukidorian ships. It's becoming clearer that while these men are better with their ships than the Ieran navy, they are being overwhelmed by this change in terrain, something the Isarnites had pioneered and you took from them. Men fight with blade and spear and axe on all sides, most notably those of the Tor family, with Damuzi leading them, and the Dzhuros, as Altus looks on with what can only be described as a smug satisfaction. However, the numbers of the enemy are not so low that they should be this few in number, and that is when a certain sound makes itself known to some of the more observant officers. A snapping of wood. Looking around, they spot why; while you have secured yourself to their ships, the gnolls of Nok are using large, curved hooks to attach their flaming ships to yours, ones which require two men to lift. What's more, they're abandoning them, moving men to ships to be defended, presumably to bolster their lower numbers. However, the sound has not reached the confident Altus, and once again, there is a question that comes to mind.

"Are you deaf?"

While you are steadily whittling away the enemy's numbers, your attempts at removing the hooks is not going well at all. In the process, your men are damaging the ships and also being attacked by the enemy, who, by maneuvering to the vessels via your own chain hooks, have put pressure on these teams. A significant number are now using this to attempt to move aboard your key vessels. REGULAR FAILURE + REGULAR FAILURE

While the hooks are coming off, a large amount of men have made it onto the core ships, turning the main battlefield into chaos. On top of that, a few Lukidorians still aboard their ship have begun using those strange weapons, firing large arrows towards the Ieran ships, as well as areas where Ierans are wiping up the enemy. This has thrown off the balance of the battlefield and has given the enemy the chance to fight back; however, before the next commands are shouted out, a gnoll near two meters tall lands with a stomp near the commanders on the flagship, having miraculously made his way there. He dresses in dark green robes overtop his armor, along with jewelry decorating a white cloth that covers one of his eyes. While bleeding a bit, he grunts at the men with simple words.

Metalar's men reach the poles just in time, leaving the burning ships doing just that; burning. While the men work on trying to finally finish off the gnolls, who appear to be on their last legs, the duel continues...

SUCCESS

Jumping up and headbutting the ghoul, the gnoll moves towards his hammer, grabbing it just as Altus recovers his own. While Altus is not bleeding, the attack by the gnoll has left him slightly dazed, while the gnoll's wounds appear to have stopped bleeding, by and large. However, that is forcibly left behind, along with most of his hand, as a brave Ieran soldier slashes at him as he jumps to the nearest ship where gnolls still remain on these key vessels. What the navy learns upon going ashore where the Ierans are camped is that the diplomats have returned, and what's more, the Marez appear to be willing to talk, using the ghouls as hostages. They are currently being held out in the ocean, with the vaneads releasing the diplomats, who were being held prisoner, when they heard the news that the Lukidor had surrendered.

They are asking to become a protectorate, and in return, will submit to the land gains you have made, and will return the traitors.

Any particular demands you will set forth? On shore, the envoys appear to be regarding it as a good deal.

Treaty of Reclamation

Land changes as outlined in the map.

Any skilled Contaw shall be enslaved and given to the Confeds to do with as they please, all others will be killed or sent to the Lukidor vassal.

Giants may continue to live in Ieran land or move to other Lopen lands.

The ruling of the Lopeni Reserve shall be given to upper Lopen.
>>
>>2852881

"Your King shall return with us and bow before the Tyrant. You shall be sending with us your entire treasurer as tribute for your actions along with the traitors. In the next year you shall send your scholars to Ierok so we they may teach all of your history and knowledge of the world. You will also cede a port on your island for use by the Ieran military along with becoming a protectorate. Are these terms acceptable?"

If this is accepted we shall make a list of gnolls who served well in this campaign before giving it to the Matriarch to announce that the Tyranny of Ier grants land and glory to those that serve it.
>>
It takes two more weeks before you receive a response, as the seventh month of the year begins. However, it is not the answer you were expecting.

"Those of us on land do not hold the same beliefs as those underwater. However, those underwater are those with control, and control of the hostages. They are willing to fight if you attempt to make the same threats again, or deliver these ghouls to potential safe havens and will be sending a man to say as such. Do not take that as our response, though we are helpless to interfere. We will bow, if given a chance, but they would kill us for doing so."

Indeed, within the next few days, a messenger from the Marez does deliver something saying as such, and demands recognition without humiliation.
>>
>>2852948
"It is not humiliation it is respect, if you are to join as one of our many Protectorates you must be prepared to show respect to the Tyrant who stands above all. If you do not respect the Tyrant then how can we know you will respect the bonds of words we craft here?"
>>
The emissary rejects this, stating that to be protected is one thing, but that many of these actions they are taking are greatly beneficial to you, and that itself is showing deference to the Tyrant. There should be no need for more than that.
>>
>>2852994

The war is over... but negotiations, despite the acceptance by the sub-tyrant, have broken down. With no contact from the vaneads other than the land ones in the past four weeks after the Kingdom of Marez's representative went home, you believe they may have left due to the original demand, spiting Ier.

What will you do?

Minor change to command posts + diplomacy. Anyone can post, but commanders can veto and override, making it similar to regular turnposts. Should allow for more interaction.
>>
>>2853043
Also, the vaneads on land believe they have likely left permanently, and they do not have the same privileges as those below in terms of cartography and such. However, it does not surprise them that they would be quite so rude in their behavior, believing that the Kingdom's diplomats likely already planned to decline, but most likely went the route they did out of anger.
>>
>>2853059
Keep the large bounty that exists on the traitors but beyond that it seems this war is over.
>>
Well, one last question remains actually; what are you doing with the remaining vaneads?
>>
>>2853150
Congrats you are a new Protectorate! Don't piss us off again.

A new protectorate, land gained, and a people to genocide; something for everyone in this war. There are, however, a few issues to settle. For one, what will be done with the properties of the Falzers, and the territories on which they lived? The Lost Ones, it appears, have had people within the Fighting Falzers for generations now, and perhaps have the strongest claim to influence and dominance of the territory. However, both the Riverisa and the Painted moved their men to the abandoned locations, which is being called out (most notably by the Lost Ones themselves) as vulturish and opportunistic. Another matter is, is there any way Ier should restyle itself now that it has claimed all territories of the Old Empire? Some suggest calling it an Empire itself, though that is being heavily debated, as many would reject one bloodline over all. Then, what to do with the lands collected from the vaneads? Most assume they would be given to the gnolls, but some ghouls in the jungle wish to have room to expand.

Other than that, what was promised at the end of the war has begun. The purging of the Lukidor lands is of course underway, as are the removals of the East Lopen. However, the original Lukidorian ghouls, long considered cousins of the Ierans, have also moved into the vassal lands, alongside the Lukidorian gnolls; the gnolls of the Contaw (or, as a plural, the Tawnie), conquered not so long ago by the Lukidorians, are being enslaved or killed outright. The land shifts have begun, and what's more, the Shattered Isles have begun paying protectorate fees without urging. The long war is over, and as the new year comes, so do new beginnings.

I. Hand over the lands taken from the Vaneads to the Confeds along with a list of gnolls who served well in the war that shall be rewarded with land there.
>>
As for the vaneads of Marez on land, who now go by the Branch, they are apparently landbound, genetic changes from intake of plant matter and land-based animals (including sentients such as ghouls) resulting in this. This created a dynamic between them and the sea based vaneads of Marez, who saw this as equivalent to being a lower caste, and the tension most likely was why they were abandoned at the end of the war. They also provide information on the reasons for the ghouls turning traitor; it appears that the Lukidorians had funneled weapons to Marez, who in turn had communicated with the Lesser Isans, who had already been paying off various scribes to allow their own collection of weapons and their growth in population to go undetected. The scribes eventually being angered by the actions of the government (though treating that second class group no better than any Ieran) led to them joining the Lesser Isans, along with the Falzers, who had already somewhat aligned with the outcasts in the jungle. One group wished for an beuracratic state, the other their homeland back, and the third for a restoration of the nation; different goals, but none that could not be aligned.

Over the next few months, many of those who were meant to be rewarded wind up dead as they attempted to travel north, and the rest choose to stay behind, due to the repurcussions that will apparently occur if they don't... In other news, trade routes have opened up with the east, due to the new maps you gained from the Lukidor, which serve to inform you that the Marez have sold all the ghouls they had with them to Kwantur, and the Kwanturii nobles seem to show no sign of tiring of their new slaves.

Doing some tyrant diplomacy
Have the army and fleet be ready though(just say it’s incase of a marez surprise attack)
Arrange a meeting with the matriarch st fort heart eater to discuss this matter
>>
With both ships arriving at roughly the same time, the steps of both the slight Matriarch and the imposing Tyrant are masked by the rain as they step out off the ships and onto the docks. Greeting each other, there is no love lost, but neither is there any particular hatred; both had their own agenda for their moves, and they understand that. However, if a solution cannot be reached here, it is likely that a conflict may break out, and as both walk towards the gargantuan stone fort named Heart-Eater before them, they know that.

***

Sitting in a tactical operations planning move on the second floor of the building, candlelight and an open window on the other side of the hall provide most of the light, the sun dimmed by the clouds. The Tyrant is at the head of the table, and the Matriarch is silent. She shows no objections. However, her silence may also be her waiting for the Tyrant to speak, in a show of deference.

Tyrant, what say you?
>>
>>2853528
“Now I as I understand it there’s been some disagreement regarding the proposed ideas for land management in the former marez territories that you and your nobility had. I’m hoping we can reach a resolution that we can both agree with but I need to be sure of the exact issues your people have had with this first.”
>>
Meanwhile, outside

"I really hope the talks break down. We've mounted Rok on his chariot and everything.
Do you guys have any idea how much he weigh? If we gotta put him back down again without getting to smash a single gnoll beneath his form we'll go on strike. High Priest be damned."
>>
The Matriarch smiles thinly, though to the ghoul in the room, the wideness of it makes it seem a smirk.

"Of course. My mother last met a Tyrant regarding the covenant created not being kept, and in this sense, that is why we are here today. Regarding what your definition of a protectorate is, we share mutual free trade and defence pacts, and you are paid 25% of our income along with being in charge of our diplomacy, in return for the organization of our military, and, as stated to the Lopenei a little over a century ago, the independence of internal affairs. As it is now, that pact is hanging on by a thread.

By forcing us to accept peasants without a noble in charge, you disrupt our main means of tax collection, which is via nobles, who are typically the head of tribes. This threatens our payment to you, along with the maintenance of our own lands, which those taxes are used for, along with paying those nobles. You also leave peasants alone, which could see a rebellion, once again threatening both of us. You also disrupt our internal affairs, which are organized on the basis of the Matriarch rules nobles rules peasants. It is a serious violation, no less, like removing the Sub-Tyrant and letting the Tyrant command the army, something which violates the very foundation of our government.

The second proposal was no better, elevating peasants to the level of not just nobility, but royalty. It would make me equivalent to a peasant, a grave insult, and would be an insult to our government itself. What's more, by stealing away our citizens, you once again would interfere with internal affairs, and furthermore, certainly cause unrest at home.

Both proposals serve to destabilize my nation in different ways, but I claim no responsibility for the attacks against those men who made a name for themselves in war. That," she snarls, "would be silly. However, these suggestions do nothing but insult our ties, and these ideas were most likely brought up to accomplish that, along with cause chaos. Who sought such a thing?" she questions, as her tirade finally comes to an end.
>>
>>2853610
“Thrak by the light. What are your people doing?”
>>
>>2853621
"What we do every day, Damuzi," replies one other member of the Tyrant's entourage. "Try to get opportunities to kill gnolls."
>>
>>2853621
"What >>2853626 spoke is the truth. Our way of life denies us all pleasures other than the one granted to us by means of violence."
>>
>>2853619
“I think I see your point. This was an attempt to provide rewards for loyalty accomplishments in the conflict but our different governing philosophies conflicted. If we were to reorganize the proposal so that nobles who served well in the war were rewarded with management of the lands their tribes would be on would this be satisfactory?”
>>
>>2853636
"Not particularly, if I give one noble too much land, it will result in 5 others trying to unthrone me and 5 others trying to attack him, and so on. Be glad you only have to deal with rogue peasants," she says with a sigh.
>>
>>2853658
“I’m sure we can work out a distribution that doesn’t set your nobles at each other’s throats or yours.”
>>
>>2853671
“Also. Is there a possibility you can establish new noble families on these lands that would be loyal to your family for granting them, its merely a suggestion. The tyranny would be willing to back your family should there be some resitance.”
>>
>>2853671
>>2853685
"Heh," she cackles, "That would be nice, yes. None of them have claimed their lands yet, and I suppose if I distribute it equally and include a new family with less land and of significance I could end it with them attacking each other, and not me. I apologize of not thinking of it beforehand, but of those men we can save from whoever is assassinating them, I will grant the land myself, and give the remainder to those fools."
>>
>>2853694
“So, have we reached an agreement?”
>>
>>2853707
"Yes," she smiles once more, "I think we have."

SESSION END
>>
A sitdown protest took place soon afterwards by a number of very frustrated warriors of the Brotherhood. It was eventually solved by promises of being allowed to ride in the chariot after putting their god back in the temple.
>>
>>2853728
“Thrak. Please calm down there will be many opportunities for violence during the upcoming raids.”
>>
>>2853788
"I'm sorry but I got no idea what you're talking about. We're gonna find the biggest hill in the Tyranny and ride the Chariot of Rok down it. Repeatedly. It's gonna be so sweet."
>>
Winter has begun, and with it comes the cooling of tensions between yourself and your Protectorate. The Matriarch has established the new nobles with the worthy soldiers still alive underneath them. However, the other nobles of the Tribal Confederation appear to be on the verge of intervening with the new nobles, something the gnoll had predicted at the Heart-eater Conference.

The only bit of news internationally is that with new trade routes open, you have been able to learn more about your new neighbors. The Nok appear to be a nobility, though with a priesthood in equal class to them, and are set up on the northern islands of a large archipelago, with their largest island perhaps two thirds the size of Wolf Island. The Kwanturii, meanwhile, are dominated by a bureaucracy that is said to stem from those who originally served the Nok's nobles prior to the collapse of the unified kingdom that ruled those lands during the Light. Both of their navies are massive, and are rich in spices and precious metals, with the majority of their conflicts, while originally ideological, now revolving around the trade of goods by both groups.

The Hall of Protectorates is created, to the protest of some on Long Island. In other news, cultural assimilation has reached a new height in Ier, as now only 1/10th of the population identifies as Reptian. At the same time, 1/5th identifies as Isarnite and close to a majority as Ieran, with the core Ieran identities (Ieran, Tannish, Aurisan, Isan) bringing it over that hurdle. While your cultural policies have been put down as brutal by your now conquered enemies, they have proven at least somewhat effective, except for the rebels in the war prior. Also, regarding the rebels; many of the scribes protesting have shut their mouths after the outcome of the conflict, perhaps having guilty consciences, or just realizing that holding the same views as rebels isn't viewed highly.

General innovations in medicine involve the incorporation of foreign elements (Lukidor and East Lopen) to best make use of regional herbs. Oh, and a superstition has been born that if a baby consumes blood before its first birthday, it will grow up healthier. Accordingly, a small uptick in baby ferals has also been noted. Traders are also complaining about foreign goods being expensive to buy, and believe that the Kwanturii and Nok are pricing their goods ridiculously high.

Speaking of those groups, you have learned a little about why there is no king in either nation. It appears that during the Light, their line disappeared, with some saying he was killed, and some saying he led an exodus to the west, to your location, perhaps.

Surprisingly, you find gold, lead, and even malachite on Wolf Island, with significant coal deposits found north on Snake Island (apparently a Lopenei name for the northernmost island, because, if viewed sideways on a map, it somewhat resembles a snake, along with another reason long forgotten).

In other news, there are apparently connections being traced between the key figure in Tribal Confederation lore and the king from the east. As known by some, a gnoll once led a large group of his people from Wolf Island to Zhik-Faraw, tracing his route along the southern islands which the pirates now hold. Ruins can be found on those islands, on Wolf Island, and in the jungle south of you, but if rumor is to be believed, these two figures are one and the same. The Matriarch is said to be descended from him, and the Opetian line of old descended from the Matriarch, though moved north to avoid the political chaos associated with the Matriarchy of the old days.
