Dice Mechanic (Up for Balance)

We always roll 1d100s!
I use the average (the mean) of the 4 best rolls plus a modifier depending on Johnny’s stats (Knowledge, Courage, etc.) for the quest. The degree of Success will be determined by the difficulty I specify for the action or prompt compared to the result. The stat based modifier is based in the level of Johnny’s stats (+10 per level not counting the first one). If there are less than 4 rolls I’ll do the math with the ones I have. For example:

>Johnny punches Howie! [Hard Roll][Athletic Based]

Equation:
(Roll 1 + Roll 2 + Roll 3 + Roll 4 + [Stat Based Modifier]) / (Number of Dices Rolled (Max. 4)) = Result!

Difficulty Thresholds (There are more, but I won’t specify those.):

Rolling over a 95 is a critical strike and ignores the other rolls! In the same vein, rolling 5 or under means a critical failure…

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action, in other words, the harder the option the better the result for the fight!

Don’t forget at the end of the day this is a story-driven quest! So what the prompts are describing is more important than what difficulty of the rolls are for the results of a fight.

You can’t leave anything to chance, playing it smartly is the only thing that will secure Nina’s safety! You need to inform everyone about this monstrosity, and together you will splat this bug! Now… where is your phone? Time to make some calls…

“Johnny! How did everything go with your ‘friend’?” Amelia is trying to sound sarcastic.
“Amelia! Uccelli turned into a giant monster and he’s going to Ka-Shing’s tower for the first crystal! I need everyone’s help to stop him!”
“W-wait, WHAT?!” Amelia probably wasn’t the best option to call first. Maybe Matilda or Henry would have been better options…
“Inform absolutely everyone you can! I’m moving to stop it! It’s long story… And Amelia, I trust you!” You hang up.

No time to waste chatting right now. Onto Osgood! You are running down the stairs as you make the call…

“Hey man, how’d things go? Did you ‘steal her heart’ again?” Osgood is sounding smug.
“Nina’s partner took her over and transformed into a giant monster. He’s going to Ka-Shing’s tower to take the first crystal! I need you here, NOW”
“Yeah, sometimes things don’t go as planned – besides she’s like 10 years older than wait what the fuck did you just say? How did that even happen?!”
“It’s not the time for that! Get moving! I’m outside her apartment complex.”
“I’ll be there in a second! Fucking hell…” He hangs up.

For the looks of it, giant Icioba is completely invisible to other people. They aren’t even noticing a floating Nina, even though her head is clearly sticking out. Perhaps the transformation makes them invisible? Does that even makes sense? Why are you thinking about logic at a moment like this? Doesn’t matter, Osgood’s here.

“Get in!” Osgood kicks the door open. You run as fast as your tired body is able and join your friend. “I saw it! You’re right, but what the fuck man?!”
“I-It’s a long story, I’m not sure what happened myself. She was acting weird today and then this happens.” You’re omitting the part where you attacked her for now.
Osgood facepalms. “Seems pretty straightforward to me! Bug is evil, took her over, pulled this shit! Let’s go!” Osgood puts his foot on the throttle! This mobile scrapheap is faster than you expected. For being a coward, Osgood’s ready to take action pretty fast.

Suddenly he brakes hard before getting out into the street, almost making you fly out of your seat! He turns to you so fast his head almost gets whiplash. “Where the fuck do we go anyway?!”

“Ka-Shing’s Tower! It’s going for the Crystal!”
“Right! Fucking let’s go!” Now the piece of junk is flying again. You will probably die before getting there.

“That fucking thing’s moving faster…!” Osgood points it out as he drives. You can see him from here as the monster is using the other path of the highway – basically he would be going against the road if he was a car. Fortunately, Icioba is dodging most of the cars that are coming his way way. Why? Does he want to avoid drawing attention? Something else?
“We’re still going to get there first if we keep going like this.”
Osgood groans, not taking his eyes off the road. “Fuck, I hope the police don’t notice us.”

Suddenly your phone starts to ring, and so does Osgood’s. “I don’t have the time for this shit man!” He throws it at you without looking. You catch it, but end up answering yours instead.

“Explain. Now.” It’s Matilda.
“Uccelli’s partner took over her body and he's going to Ka-Shing’s tower for the first crystal. Osgood and I are going directly there to stop it!”
“Took over? Similar to what happened to the dog girl, yes?” You answer with a simple uh-huh to confirm.
“Henry and I are going. Stay safe.” Matilda hangs up, short and sweet. What a professional!

It occurred to you with so many calls going on, that perhaps you should call the owner of that place…

“Should I…?” You mutter to yourself.
“Should you what?”
“Call Ka-Shing, I mean.”
“Yeah, why the hell not?” Osgood doesn’t like the idea, but grudgingly accepts it.

You saved Ka-Shing’s number from the last time he called you, so you warn him about this mess…

“Hello? You’ll have to speak up, I’m wearing a towel.” It’s the man in question, Mikhael himself!
“It’s me, Johnny Ando – remember me? I need to talk to you.”
You hear Ka-Shing laugh on the other end. “Oh heeeeeey, Johnny boy! How is it hangin’? Ready to conduct more business with me?”
“Yeah, something like that… Ehm… How do I explain this to you…?”

“What’s the issue?” His tone of voice changes completely, all business now!
You take a deep breath. “Well, a member of our team had their partner force control over her body, and they turned into a monster that’s going to your tower to take the Crystal from you… He’s coming from the main street by the way, so you should be able to spot him.”
“…Oh. Yes. I see. Could you give me a second, please?”

You hear him slowly put the phone down… then scream red alert like a madman, losing his cool in a fashion you would find hilarious if the situation wasn’t so dire. You hear various impact noises, as if he’s punching buttons or furniture.

He stops randomly. His footsteps get nearer to the phone, then he picks the phone back up. “Ehem… It seems the Ka-Shing Security System is going to have its first grand test… Unfortunately we don’t have Flint ready quite yet, but don’t worry boy. We will kill it.” He hangs up in your face. That was kind of rude. You try to call him again, but he’s not answering…

“Now I’m even more worried…” You stare at your phone pondering if this was a good idea…
“Is that even possible? Just looking at your sorry state for one second gives me anxiety…” Osgood chuckles. Whatever makes him feel better at a time like this, you suppose.

It seems the red alert wasn’t a joke after all! Ka-Shing’s forces are barricading a perimeter a few streets away from the main tower. There’s so many men in sunglasses gathered, you can barely make out much of anything through them. You two park the van in a nearby side street, not too close and not too far.
Just by looking around you can see swarms of the men in black alongside many cats, all flameless. In front of the barricade in surprising fashion, is Ka-Shing himself leading his troops with megaphone on hand! He’s yelling instructions you can’t make out, voice echoing off all the other buildings.

“I wonder what they’re planning...” Osgood says as he takes the keys out of the car. “Should we watch?”
You give Osgood a look you would probably give to someone insane, if everybody you knew wasn’t already insane. “Are you crazy? We need to stop her ourselves or Nina is going to die!”
“All Ka-Shing can do is throw water at people. The bug is probably going to knock all of them over like bowling pins, or worse.” Osgood dismisses your worries with ease. Is he taking this seriously?

“They all armed to the teeth!” You point at the nearest bunch of suits. Sure enough, they all have guns holstered on their belts, and you can clearly see some of them have actual machine guns and rifles slung on their backs.
“You think that shit works on Entities?” Osgood, you goddamn coward…

What do you do?

“We’re going to intercept Icioba before he gets to the barricade.” You’re not going to back down now.
Now Osgood looks towards the highway, then back at you like you’re insane. “It’s in the middle of the highway, for fuck’s sake!”
“We’re going to ambush him before he gets this far.” You just glare at Osgood… He gulps, sighs, and finally nods to your request. You need to get in there and stop the monster before things get ugly.
“Let’s go…” You feel Osgood’s happiness diminishing. As if he had any happiness to begin with.

The two of you move your way out into the main street and down towards the barricade, but stay a good distance from it. You yell at the men in black to aim for the ugly bug parts. The suits didn’t seem to be happy to receive orders from a nobody schmuck like you, judging by the grumbling and insults coming your way – but Ka-Shing barked at them to listen to you. He even saluted you!

Then the two of you move to the side end of the street and start walking to the highway, up the main vehicle ramp to the zone where the bug will arrive.
On the way, you notice all the other side streets are suspiciously empty of people, and all the shops and office buildings are empty too. This end of the highway is also eerily empty, and you very faintly hear and see other cars on the other branches of the highway, farther out from this portion.
Did Ka-Shing work this fast to get people and cars cleared out? It’s his part of the city right on the edge of downtown, so it makes sense he has this much control over the place. Guess this is the power of money at work. Spooky…!

You are both hiding behind a concrete barrier close to the street exit, staring at the monster that’s slowly approaching, having finally passed the regular crowded part of the highway into the cleared-out part. At this point, you can barely spot Nina’s face on the monster. Icioba seems to be covered in a weird glistening substance, almost like black paint. He’s definitely shrunk from the almost building size he had before, down to something like a double-decker bus. With this size decrease though, Icioba is now much much faster than he was before! Not quite car speed, but no doubt a solid pace!

“Are we going to try climbing him like two goddamn dumbasses and hope for the best…?” Osgood doesn’t buy it. He’s tired of leaving injured after every fight, even though that’s basically what his ability does.
“It’s an ambush, Osgood. What else can we do?”
“I don’t know, maybe his weak point is the legs or something… Do we want to kill him or stop him?”
You shrug. “Beating the crap out of it worked with Yukika…” Same concept here: hit it until it stops.
“I don’t like that plan at all…”

Enough of this whining! “Osgood, there’s a lot of things about this situation that I don’t like. You complaining about everything is one of them. We have to do something, or things are going to get worse for everybody, alright?” Osgood gives you an incredulous look, then grudgingly nods in agreement.

“Let’s sweep him down by focusing on his legs. I’ll get the ones from the other side, alright?”
“R-right! Time for zombie mode…”

Both of you go in unison to stop the beast from coming. Like planned, you will attack his left side, while Osgood goes for his right.

“Dhrtarastra!” Osgood calls up his partner, who does a ‘come at me’ beckon.
“Let’s go, Philo!” Philonune’s huge smirk is all you need to see.

“You…?!” Icioba is unpleasantly surprised! Little does he know, it’s already too late for him to react! While maintaining a good amount of distance, you use Philonune’s spear to pierce one of his legs! Osgood just goes in with a tackle alongside his partner, because Dhrtarastra seems mildly underpowered alone. The monsters’ heavy abdomen collapses on the concrete, causing the highway to shake very slightly. “GaAAAaAAh-!”

“That actually worked!” Osgood is surprised for a moment, then he fistpumps the air.
But you see something behind him. “Look out!” You yell to your friend.

Icioba reacts by roaring like a demon banshee, sending all your hairs on end and making you feel a piercing sensation in your skull.He then takes advantage of your disorientation to flail his arms to take both of you down! By having good positioning, you were able to evade the move… Osgood did too, but he ended up tripping in the process…

Osgood pulls himself up cautiously, then his eyes go wide. “Wait, he’s not moving his arm to attack us!”

The monster uses his big arms to push himself up. In one big leap, he soars through the air and slams down closer to the barricade, crossing a large quantity of terrain! You guess since he’s not trying to be sneaky anymore, he can afford to move faster now! Also you’re merely a nuisance to him!
He’s dangerously close to the barricade now, but look at the bright side! His movement option is now easily telegraphed.

“F-fire!” Ka-Shing exclaims as he moves behind some of his goons. The goons start preparing their weapons to attack… But…


“Where is it?!” The men are confused. Didn’t they train for something like this?! What the fuck?!
They aren’t able to see the creature right in front of them. Perhaps the dark fiery goo on Nina’s face makes her invisible to normal people? Wait a second… that’s Nina’s actual flame covering her body and acting as cloaking!
“In front of you! Where else?!” Ka-Shing is already escaping with some of his suits. Poor cannon fodder are going to eat shit real soon.

The men were going to take the queue, but Icioba reacts quickly and… moves one of his smaller arms to where Nina is sleeping. A hole opens up next to her, and the arm retrieves something.

A cellphone…
Oh god, the monster is somehow able to activate the Crimzone! As the red wave of energy spreads from Icioba, the men realize they can’t shoot…

“Retreat! Retreat!” The men yell as the lot run for their lives like a bunch of worthless dumbasses. Ka-Shing strategically changes position with his men too… What a coward!

Icioba cackles merrily at the sight, his path clear. “Good! But if you’re that afraid, you should have paid me my price!” Icioba is setting up his launch again.

Good thing you and Osgood used all this time to reposition yourselves! You are both behind him, and Icioba hasn’t noticed. Your body is starting to feel heavy, so you need to take it easy or get rid of him quickly…

He crossed a long distance with that jump, but you are still in a good position to make him pay!

What do you do?!

Instead of launching yourself gracefully through the air, you end up traversing the skies with no control over your body, because you’re spinning uncontrollably. Except for aiming, this was a good attempt if you think about it.
You see Osgood for a brief moment as nothing but a little man quickly getting farther from you.
This is going to end badly…

As you keep spinning and the wind keeps rushing past you and carrying you at the same time, you wonder why Osgood decided to throw you himself instead of using Dhrtarastra…

You’re coming dangerously close to a street sign with a momentum that’s probably going to leave you with another concussion.
You wonder if this was what your mother was feeling when her accident happened all those years ago…

And so, you collide with the street sign like a dumbass. At least you hit it back-first instead of tasting it… Strangely enough, being beaten by Trent and Flint were way worse than this.

“Fuck…” You imagine hearing Osgood say this from somewhere below you as if he just assassinated you.

You poor limp body drops from the sign down onto Icioba’s back… His bug armor or whatever he has is hard as concrete, resulting in yet another nasty fall. Nice. How are you even conscious?
Icioba didn’t even notice and launches himself into the air again…

As the monster starts descending, your weakened body couldn’t hold onto him, and starts falling a few feet away from Icioba’s new location. The air rushes past your head as you fall headfirst…

Osgood is probably trying his damndest to catch you, but the distance is too great for him.

Is this your end? In a way, you expected to go down like a fool. Friendly fire is too strong…

“JOHNNY!” Your ears vaguely sense something close to your sister’s voice. Must be your pain-addled imagination. If she was here to see you fall and die like a bitch, that would be depressing. It would be like seeing Mom die all over again, except in an even more stupid way.

No wait! It really is Amelia! She’s here with her entity’s cloud, and flew under you to catch you before your skull could hit pavement! But Amelia’s momentum is too much for her to handle and she’s going to crash! Dhrtarastra appears to catch you both, though Osgood and Dhrtarastra end up falling on the floor too. Maybe you two are too heavy…

“Ouch… Ouch…!” Amelia rubs her aching bum.
“…I love you, Amelia.” You miraculously end up hugging your sister despite your entire body crying out in fierce agony! How are you still able to move your arms and legs after TWO impacts like that? Who fucking cares?! You will give her all the headpats later when your arms stop crying! You don’t want to die after all!
“I think you guys will have to go on without me… I don’t think I can move my body anymore… at least to fight…” Osgood gasps out as Amelia moves you away from him.

“Osgood, are you alright?!” Amelia now cares about this useless twat that tried to killed you, even though it was your own retarded idea that sounded good at the time.

You need to chase after Icioba or else you don’t know what could happen, especially if he manages to get his hands (claws? scythes?) on the Crystal. Osgood isn’t looking any good, and your back is killing you, but you can still walk and use your arms albeit with extreme pain. You can only take one more strike before you light out again.

What will you do? Keep in mind you can barely move or stand on your own.

“You sure?” You ask deadly serious as you glance over him quickly. Doesn’t seem like he’s all that hurt, but bone injuries tend to not be obvious from the outside.
“I wouldn’t be joking now. I’ll try to head back to the van, even though this red shit is in the way.”

You stand up, cringing as you do so. Shit, your body hurts a lot. “Amelia, let the others know where Osgood is going to be.” You look back at Osgood and try to look sympathetic. “Sorry dude, but we need to get going.”
“O.K.” Amelia sends the appropriate text message. “But Johnny… You’re wobbling all over the place.”
“Not now with that shit, Ame. We need to save her…” You’ll work through the pain, like you always have.

Amelia walks up to you. “You promised me you wouldn’t do stuff like this anymore!”
“I have to agree with your sister, you need to rest as much as I do.” Osgood intervenes as well!
You give Osgood an annoyed look, then lean in to stare into Amelia’s eyes. “Yeah, and sending my little sister into danger is supposed to help me get better? It’s supposed to help this whole situation get better? I can’t just sit here and do nothing, Ame.” Why is everyone around you getting in your way?!
Amelia refuses to back down even when you’re in her face like this! “If you can’t do it, then I can do it myself! Believe in me!”

Osgood walks up to the two of you. “Just bring him alone, Amelia. But Johnny, stay out of the fight until it’s almost absolutely necessary… I have a feeling you’re going to be our secret ace.” Osgood gives you a thumbs up.
Fine, that’s not a bad idea. “Alright, but we don’t have time to lose. Amelia, bring Saraswati.”
“O.K…” Amelia brings her goddess out! She still looks so pettable and adorable.

“You heard the guardian’s partner. Don’t do anything foolish, or else…” Saraswati warns you as you two get on her cloud. You notice the cloud giving you a nervous look for a moment, then returning to staring ahead.
You can’t do anything else but nod to the dumb bear goddess. Your body is in a good amount of pain, but it won’t deter you from the path you’ve set on!
“Be careful you two.” Osgood smirks as you two wave him goodbye in pursuit of the giant monster. The last you see of Osgood is him turning and walking towards the side street you left the pile of scrap in.

“You think he already got to the tower?” Amelia asks you. You can make out what she’s saying easily, despite going at speeds slightly slower than a car. Why haven’t you flown off by now? Is the cloud itself holding you onto it? Either way, you’re flying about one or two stories off the ground.
“It would surprise me if he didn’t…”

And like you predicted, the monster is about to get into the perimeter of the tower! From what you can see, the main entrance has been barricaded a lot more sturdily than the street barricade, complete with barbed wire! There is something weird going on, however. Entity-like flames are slowly rising from the floor of the lobby up to the ceiling… Aside from the usual black ones there are some blue ones, and you even glimpse one white standing out against all the others…

Between the glass front doors and the bug, there is just one man in a turtleneck. They look oddly familiar to you…
Wait, now you remember! It’s that one terrorist guy from the public bombing! He soloed Wildflame, didn’t he?

“Did that bug shrink again?” You mutter to yourself.
“Isn’t that good?” Amelia wonders as the two of you approach the place, keeping a cautious speed to avoid drawing attention. Or at least, as much attention a moving cloud large enough to carry two people and a bear can draw.
“No, he’s getting faster…”
“He’s getting used to his new body, maybe? Or making himself manifest the way he is is draining too much power to keep his size?” Amelia speculates, earning her a nod of approval from Saraswati piloting the cloud. You’re a block and a half away from the tower now, Icioba in front of you.

The lonely man invokes his partner! It’s like some kind of yellow slime with a sword. Doesn’t look anything special, but you know from experience that people with partners can pull off unexpected things…

“Go! Go! Go! Distract that cockroach!” Ka-Shing yells from one of the windows on the tower’s lower floors, using his megaphone! “You will get those paid vacations you’ve always wanted… (cough) if you survive! (cough)”

The solitary man smirks up at his boss, but you can feel this task is a little too big for him. He’s ready to take action anyway. His slime coils around his shoulders, waving the sword around…

“Open the gates and I’ll let you live, human.” Icioba threatens the poor guy. For a big bad monster bug, he’s pretty merciful now that you think about it.

But what do you do?!

“I’m afraid I can’t do that.” The ex-terrorist responds calmly to the monster’s suggestion. Then he starts running around the beast.
“Then perish!” Icioba lifts his not-so-huge-but-still-pretty-big arm to attack!

“Hey Ka-Shing! What are you doing?! Help your poor man! What kind of boss are you supposed to be?!” You yell at the millionaire. Things are quiet enough in the area that your voice carries.
“What are you saying?! He’s perfectly capable for the job!” Ka-Shing screams back using his megaphone.
“I wouldn’t mind some help here, boss.” The man of the hour calls out nonchalantly, as he starts creating a bunch of little bubbles around the monster with the tip of his slime’s sword. They are floating directionless very slowly, but they’re growing in size as they do so.

“Fine!” Ka-Shing leaves the megaphone off to the side, and calls out his partner! He poses next to Ka-Shing on the windowsill, holding his palms out to Icioba. “Ka-BOOM!” A strong stream of water comes from the adorable little dragon-esque creature, hitting the bug…! To his mild annoyance, it doesn’t seem to do anything but distract him. And maybe clean him a little…

Amelia facepalms and groans. “Johnny, why? Now Icioba knows we’re here.”
“We need to gain some time for whatever they’re preparing. Besides, I don’t think the bug cared at all about us…”
“Stinky bug! Who does he think he is to ignore us?” Saraswati is mad. For a goddess of knowledge, she’s pretty easy to ire. She also talked like Amelia for a moment there. Is your little sister infecting her partner with her personality?!

“I don’t need to waste my time humoring you like this, human.” Icioba is tired of wasting his time. Instead of attacking the man amassing bubbles, he goes directly for the barricade destroying it in one fell swoop!
“O-oh crap!” Ka-Shing realizes his meek defense was for naught. Not even the barbed wire did anything to Icioba.

“Heh, all part of the plan.” The bodyguard’s slime partner throws the sword! It flies through the air like a boomerang, spinning and hitting multiple of the bubbles it set up before – detonating them! From each one a yellow substance bursts out, homing in on the big bug. The sword continues to fly through the air and levitates back to the bodyguard, who catches it in a stylish move!

“Ngh…?” Icioba’s lower half is completely coated in the weird goo! It’s sticky! And he can’t move! “…Not bad, swordsman. But not good enough!” Icioba uses his large arms to attempt jumping yet again! He makes it up a good few stories, but the slime’s goo also stretches up with him! Icioba rapidly rubberbands back down to the ground, slamming into the cold stone hard enough to send debris flying everywhere and into the tower lobby, shattering the glass spectacularly! “AAgh!” He yells in impotent rage. The inside of your head gets that stinging feeling again, but not as bad as it was before.

You can’t help but comment on this. “Nice.”

Amelia’s phone rings out of nowhere, breaking the moment. “Hello…?”
“Down here!” It’s Henry yelling from the ground, waving at the two of you! He’s in an alley near where you’re flying above – a little away from the main scene. Amelia swiftly flies towards the most forgettable member of the team while Saraswati watches silent. Her eyes are looking back to Icioba and the slime guy. You can hear them shouting to each other, but not what they’re saying.

“Uff, I’m finally here!” Henry smiles and holds his hand up.
“Weren’t you with Matilda?” You hold your hand up limply and attempt to high-five. After three misses, you give up.
“She went somewhere else. Has a plan or some shit. Told me to not do anything reckless, but you know me…” He grins wider.
“…She didn’t tell you her plan?”
“Ehm… No…? It’s not like I forgot to ask or anything.” Henry is a total dumbass. Of course he forgot to ask.

“Doesn’t matter. You’re here, so now we can go help that guy stop the monster!” Amelia reminds you about the task at hand!

Perhaps you’re going to play the support character role this time. Lame as hell, but it’s all for Nina! So you don’t mind!

“Henry get in there first! Amelia, cover him! Fly over Icioba and rain hail on him, or something! No lightning!” After Ka-Shing’s water attack soaked Icioba, hitting him with lightning will fry Nina too.
“Roger!” Henry charges immediately invoking his partner, Kaishen!
“Mhm!” You and Amelia float ahead with her partner to cover the delinquent kid.

“I SAID SILENCE!” Whatever Icioba was discussing with the slime man, he was done with it. Icioba starts destroying the floor under him in an attempt to break free of the goo!

Henry marches forward with his partner, tackling the big monster’s arm and stopping him from stomping himself loose! Icioba loses his balance and collapses flat on the pavement, vulnerable for now!

“Hmm…?” The gooey man notices Henry.
“We came here to help!” Henry shouts out as Kaishen starts punching the shit out of Icioba’s armored arm! With each punch, you see dark red energy flare out for a second. Seems to be doing okay against the armor.
The man nods approvingly and starts releasing more bubbles in the area.

You and Amelia are right over the giant monster in perfect position. The bear uses her climate-changing technique for her cloud to create hail! It starts falling down on Icioba – enraging him further but not causing the damage you expected. Icioba tries to get rid of you two with an upwards swipe, but Saraswati is able to evade the short range of the monster…

“Guys, now!” Amelia yells at them.
“I’m almost done…!” The ex-terrorist yells back. He sounds a lot more desperate now, looking back and forth from Icioba and his slime entity managing the bubbles.
“So that’s what you lot are doing! I tire of your silly games!” Icioba roars once again and creates the thin veil your girlfriend used earlier in the day. Her ability: Silent Treatment! Thankfully you and Amelia are outside the zone, but…

“I can’t hear what’s going on…” Amelia whimpers. Yes, everything inside the big area is not making a sound. You see Henry and the slime man talking frantically, but it’s like watching a muted video with no subtitles. Weird, but not the end of the world.
“Keep your focus! They’re still in there!” Saraswati chides your sister as she pilots the cloud around the area’s outside.
“B-but I can’t see anything now!”

And indeed it’s true! The light in the veiled area slowly dims further and further until it becomes a pitch-black sphere. You aren’t able to see anything inside anymore! Is this the upgraded version of Nina’s ability?!

“We need to get to Henry, Amelia! Who knows what Icioba could be doing in there?”
“But we don’t know what’s going on anymore…!” Amelia shakes her head in distress. Saraswati seems to agree with your sister, nodding along. Even the cloud is looking depressed!

Suddenly the dark area shatters into giant disappearing fragments, and everything is visible again! There ground where Icioba was is further torn up, and the yellow goo is gone with all the bubbles. Henry is hidden behind one piece of concrete rubble and seems safe, even though you can see him bleeding a little from his arm. As for the other guy, well, he’s lying completely unconscious next to Henry. His slime partner is nothing but a black flame on the side of his neck.

“The monster’s slowed down!” Amelia points right at Icioba, at the far edge of where the silent dark zone was! Making that veil took more energy than Icioba must have expected. If you think about it, the reason why entities are weaker here is because they use the energy of their partners instead of themselves – so that means using those types of abilities are draining Nina’s energy and more importantly, making the beast weaker!

“We have the upper hand! We can do this Johnny!” Amelia is getting hype, but you’re not so sure about this. Not after everything Icioba managed to get past.

The beast is dragging his body towards the main entrance of the building with one of his big arms and the little arms he has on his stomach. The other arm doesn’t look too good. Henry must have done more damage to him than you thought!

What do you do?!

“Guys… We need to get the monster.” Henry is grabbing his bleeding arm. He notices Amelia’s concerned look and smiles. “It’s just a cut, don’t worry. I’ve had way worse.”
“I told you when things get dangerous to take cover!” Amelia seems more mad than concerned.
“Calm down, woman. That’s what I did; I know this guy is going to thank me one day…” Henry nudges the unconscious mercenary with his foot.
“You’re a dummy anyway! You should have escaped!” Amelia doesn’t seem one bit happy.
“I took cover, that’s good enough.”
“That’s what you said last time!” Wait, there’s missing backstory here! Did something happen before?

“Wait, who are you calling ‘woman’? Show my sister some respect.” You tell off the irresponsible delinquent. Amelia is just a girl after all.
He realizes his mistake immediately. “My bad, boss…” He looks genuinely guilty now, the same way he did when he talked about his backstory.
Amelia pokes you and Henry in the shoulder. “Guys, we need to save Ms. Uccelli! Let’s go!”

“Pfft… It’s not like he can fit inside the building.”

As soon as Henry finishes saying that, Icioba comically slips inside Ka-Shing Tower the same way he escaped Nina’s apartment. It was exactly as silly as before.

Henry is at a loss for words. So is Amelia.

A bunch of cats start escaping the main building right past Icioba! And by ‘a bunch’ you mean an entire army! How many of these dumb cats were in there?! Hell, even some of Ka-Shing’s men are running away! God dang it, there’s T.T. Neko with them, and she’s being carried unconscious by some of the men in black!

“Run! RUN! RUN!” All of them scream like the cowardly lot they are. You three just stand there speechless as you continue to watch the absurd scene unfold; a car crash in slow motion. It’s like you’re watching someone fly through a windshield…

Anyway, the three of you board the cloud and start flying to the entrance… You’re the only three that can stop this nigh-unstoppable beast! Inside the building lobby, to your surprise, this place is way bigger than you could possibly have imagined! Good enough for a battlefield! A nice front desk, elevators and stairs way over there, lots of pillars and comfy chairs everywhere… The ceiling is almost four stories high! And right there in the center of everything, Icioba is destroying some valiant men who were still defending the place.

“Do not continue wasting my time with your needless fodder, human.” Icioba has Ka-Shing cornered!
“Tsk… Tsk… This is not the type of negotiation I like.” The eccentric man responds, obviously about to piss himself.
“Give me the Crystal, human, or else…”
“Can I give you a piece…?”
Icioba looms further over Ka-Shing, not any less menacing due to his smaller size.

“…Half? 80/20? Can I keep a piece? Just a small one? Sure… Sure… I’ll show you where the crystal is.”
“I’ll pardon your miserable life. That should be sufficient.”

He’s standing there posing bravely in the face of danger! “I have seen what you have done, and I won’t stand for it! I’m the HERO OF JUS—”

Icioba slaps the shit out of WILDFLAME within seconds, and sends him straight through a wall! Well, that’s that!

“…That’s disappointing.” Ka-Shing says as the legendary hero of justice dies like a retard.
“Ehm… So where were we again?” Icioba is back to business.

Even though he just beat the crap out of WILDFLAME, you noticed Icioba’s still injured. He’s only moving the arm Henry didn’t damage. He’s not invincible. After watching that display of effortless curbstomping, however, both Henry and Amelia seem afraid. Not you though! Your courage is too high!

Amelia adjusts her glasses. “I think it’s pronounced ‘WILDFLAME’, dear brother.” Amelia, focus, the man is dying. There’s no time to pronounce capitals like that! How is this even possible?!
“Who cares? We need to help him anyway. Icioba got this far, we need all the help we can get!”

“I’ll distract the bug, you two check on him!” Henry runs to where Ka-Shing and Icioba are.
“Wait, no! He’s already distracted with Ka…” You tried to stop Henry, but for some reason he got hyped enough to act reckless. Oh well, he can take a few hits. While you’re watching Henry run off, Amelia pulls herself together and jumps on her cloud, pulling you up too. “Let’s move fast!”

“Hey you stupid cockroach! I haven’t finished breaking your other arm!” Henry yells to the big baddie as he runs forward. He activates his own ability on himself! He’s going all out!
Icioba turns away from Ka-Shing and watches Henry come straight for him. He tilts his head. “Another little peasant? Oh… This one… This one I need to thank very much. A reckless idiot who didn’t understand the consequences of his actions! You created such delicious despair in this pathetic vessel!” He uses one of his stomach arms to pet Nina’s flame-covered head. “So many stressful evenings, so many worries you would further stain her reputation… HEhehEHheE!” Icioba chuckles at Henry, in full banter mode now. Meaning he probably feels like he’s winning.

Henry slows down, half from a small stinging sensation in his head, and half from the guilt at hearing what Icioba said. “I’m going to make it up to her and everyone else! Starting by crushing you!” The bug’s banter only makes Henry angrier in his charge! Let’s see if that’s good or bad…

Suddenly a bunch of droplets start hitting the bug’s side!

“Ngh…?!” Icioba is taken by surprise, but he uses his wounded arm to block the bullets – it’s not like they’re penetrating his defense or anything, but they are pushing Icioba’s arm back.
“You’re finally making me sweat, big boy! Now I can return the favor!” Ka-Shing is on the offensive too! He’s wiping the sweat off his forehead and flicking it at Icioba!

Meanwhile you and Amelia are moving the debris off WILDFLAME. Amelia gets his head exposed.

“WILDFLAME, are you okay?”
“Yes… Young one, I made a mistake, but justice can’t die a puny death. Not in a place like this.” WILDFLAME stands up, ready for action! His injuries seem to be getting the best of him, but he brushes the dust off like it’s nothing! “I’ll put a stop to this heinous beast! OR MY NAME ISN’T WILDFLAME!” WILDFLAME invokes his partner, a flaming phoenix-looking creature coming out of his head. The phoenix thing grabs WILDFLAME’s head and lifts him into the air! They fly straight to Icioba and the others!

Henry and Ka-Shing’s fight against Icioba still rages on! The two of them do everything in their power to evade the beast’s attacks, but he’s getting closer to connect with each near-miss.
Suddenly WILDFLAME with his partner arrive to the scene at breakneck speeds! With JUSTICE in his heart, and POWER in his hand, he delivers a RIGHTEOUS PUNCH!™ straight at Icioba! It connects spectacularly, causing WILDFLAME spectacular pain!

“AAArgh! What’s this thing made of?!” WILDFLAME is an idiot! He probably broke his hand… He jumps away from potential danger very quickly.
“Use your partner, you fucking idiot!” Ka-Shing yells at the masked man as his partner fires haphazard water jets at Icioba.

Icioba has the three men in front of him and he’s forgot about you again! It’s time for you to do something while the bug is distracted…

“Amelia, remember what we did to Yukika’s partner when they took her over?” Amelia’s furious nods are the only answers you need. “Let’s do it again. Our final shot…!” You have Philonune invoked now, floating by your side. Just enough stamina for this one attack! It’s time for these two siblings to work together yet again!
“Just one quick hit is all we need again, huh Johnny? Are we going to do this to every bug we come across, or just the big ones?” Philonune laughs, and you can’t help smiling too. Saraswati rolls her eyes and grumbles at your partner. “Aim for the crystal on his forehead, fallen angel. You don’t need me to tell you that’s the weak point.”

You two start gaining height… Meanwhile the other trio are getting their asses handed to them. Icioba already got a solid hit on Ka-Shing, knocking the millionaire flying to the side, out cold. WILDFLAME and Henry are focusing on the functional arm of the beast with their partners – with not much result. Icioba slaps the two a few times with his working stomach arms, fending them off.

“Fools! I am growing stronger with every passing second!” Icioba taunts the other two. The men are barely able to catch their breath.
“If we keep avoiding his big right arm, we’ll be fine!” Henry states the obvious, jinxing everything.
“WROOOOONG!” Icioba raises his wounded left arm into the air, preparing to slam it down!

“Oh shit!” Henry’s going to die!
“Henry!” Amelia yells, as the two of you gain speed for your ultimate attack. As much as you want to make this be a decisive blow, you have no other choice but to…

A flying spear traverses the air and pierces the monster’s arm! Your spear… You couldn’t let the monster kill your friend like that. You had to waste the attack early, but it was worth it.

The spear and Icioba’s left arm are impaled on the ceiling! He cries out in pain, making you feel like needles are stabbing into your brain!
The effect ends, and once you open your eyes you see Henry waving at you. He’s backed away to a safer range. “B-Boss! Thanks!” Henry owes you one now. That would be great for after you survive this fiasco.
“No super attack for us, eh?” You smile at Amelia. A loud roar wipes it off your face soon after.
“It’s not over yet!” Icioba now brings his good arm to the equation! Now that one you can’t stop!

“JUSTICE BLOCK!” WILDFLAME puts himself in the path of the attack with his partner, and they receive the impact! Somehow they managed to get a hold of the arm and restrain it! “YOUNG ONE, NOW!”
“C’mon Henry! It’s your chance!” Amelia yells too! Why are you two still flying here?!

Finally Henry pulls himself together. He has an open way for him to strike the horror’s face! Henry starts running with his augmented speed and prepares his ultimate attack with Kaishen! Hopefully it won’t be lame… But…

“You persistent human filth! DIE!” Icioba is using trying to use his smaller arms to catch Henry, who for some reason didn’t see them coming. Thin jets of water start hitting them before they reach him!
“C’mon whatever the hell your name is!!” Ka-Shing is awake again! With his sharpshooting aim he’s leaving Henry with no more obstacles!

Henry, with everyone’s hopes on his shoulder, is ready to deliver the final blow!

“C’mon you little shit!” Ka-Shing yells from the floor
“For great justice!” WILDFLAME is boosting your friend too.
“Get rid of him, Henry!” Amelia joins the hype!
“Don’t forget to aim for the crystal thing!” You chip in your own two cents.

Henry closes in with his leaping strike, like a true hero! Just at the last second, however, Icioba counters Henry’s offensive with his own! The big bug uses Henry’s momentum against him with a nasty headbutt right into his fist, then just like a soccer player, Icioba spikes him sideways! You hear a sickening crack echo through the lobby! Both ended up hurting, but only Icioba remains on his feet! Amelia and you fly to the rescue and check on Henry. He’s unconscious…

“Sorry, Amelia, boss…” He’s not really unconscious! He’s just really beat up! That’s really bad!
“Meh, you did your best.” Seeing him like this reminds you you’re at your limit too…
How much longer can you last?

“Why does this disappointing shit keep happening?! FUCK!” Ka-Shing is so done with this shit. He punches the ground in frustration, then promptly collapses unconscious again.
“GahAHahHA! All this suffering for nothing!” Icioba can’t help but laugh triumphantly. You experience the head pain again, but you can see Icioba’s forehead crystal has a violent crack running through it from Henry’s blow. He’s also starting to sway in place as if he’s drunk. “Is that all you have to face me with?! Hand me the crystal now, puny humans! Or do you want me to keep entertaining myself, hmmm?”
“We aren’t done…” WILDFLAME is struggling to keep the hand unmoving. Icioba looks back down at WILDFLAME, breathing right in his face. “Once I get rid of you, we will…”
Icioba’s arm starts to shake a little, but the power struggle between him and WILDFLAME remains dead even.

“The best is yet to come!” Out of nowhere, a familiar angelic voice of reason and… greediness comes from the direction of the front doors! “These monsters are way more threatening than I had anticipated.” It’s Matilda and… She can see Icioba?! And she’s not alone.
“Is he…?” A cute-sounding voice comes from Matilda’s companion, who she’s carrying on her back. Whoever they are, they’re wearing a hoodie.
“Indeed. He hurt your friends.” Matilda says in her monotone. Then she pulls a smirk that even Philonune would approve. “And you know what that means…”
“That he needs punishment…!” It’s Constance and she has Athelone invoked!!! WHY THE FUCK DID MATILDA BRING HER HERE?! IT’S DANGEROUS! AAAAAAHHHHHHH!

“No! The Judges… Here?!” Icioba knows he’s done! His head moves rapidly, trying to find a way out…

97! It’s a critical… Again!

“Amelia, now’s your chance!” You poke your sister a few times to get her going. Since you were here floating for a while and not doing much, seems fitting she does something useful again.
“Right!” Amelia descends rapidly, and you two leave Henry safe on one of the comfy chairs around. It’s time for your double attack, sans your spear…
“Good luck!” Henry gives you and your sister a thumbs up as he relaxes. In the meantime, you continue with your attack.

Constance refuses to be afraid! “Get me closer to him!” Matilda obliges and starts running.

“I won’t back down! The Judges were the ones who opposed me! I have no reason to be disqualified!” Icioba is ready to defend himself with his smaller arms – as the other two are still being disabled by Philonune’s spear, and WILDFLAME and WILDFLAME’s partner.
Matilda gracefully evades most of the attacks coming her way, while Athelone blocks the others. They look invincible as a pairing. Scary to say the least.

Icioba’s fury heats to a boil as you start seeing your spear being moved back and forth in place. He’s trying with all his might to set it free!

He’s about to do it, but some yellow bubbles start to appear near his pinned arm! A flying sword crosses the ‘sky’ as the bubbles start detonating, releasing the goo! Now his arm is gooed again, with no hope of breaking free from the ceiling!

“Damn you…” Icioba’s growling echoes strongly in the room, eliciting pained noises from everybody else and yourself. Nobody is going to get used to this effect ever.
“What did you think you were gonna do, huh?” The goo man is back! He looks rough, but doesn’t appear in terrible condition.

“Philonune, ready?!”
“You have to ask?”
“C’mon Saraswati!”
“RAAAAAAAAAAAAAWR!”

And simultaneously Saraswati and Philonune attack the back of Icioba’s head, pushing him forward to Constance, Matilda and Athelone. This puts him in perfect position to being stabbed in the forehead crystal by Athelone’s pronged rod, or whatever her weapon is supposed to be!

“AaaaaaaaaaaaAGH??! THIS WASN’T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN! MY PERFECT WORLD! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!” Icioba roars out in agonizing pain, driving a stake through your mind! A screech so loud and wicked, you’ll never forget it as long as you live. Right alongside Mom’s death and Blake being run over.
“You hurt my friends. Begone…!” Constance sentences him as she puts the final nail in the coffin.

The monster evaporates as he slowly reverts to flame form, a pitiful version of the scary flame you saw today. Nina is left unconscious on the floor with a faint flickering excuse of a flame on her hand.

“YES! Hahahaha!” WILDFLAME poses dramatically, then high-fives his bird partner.
“Finally…” The gooey man falls to his knees next to a still-unconscious Ka-Shing, exhausted.
“WOOOO!” Henry somehow finds the strength and breath to belt out a victory cry.
“Good job.” Matilda smiles at Constance, but Constance shakes her head. Her eyes don’t leave Nina’s flame. “Our job isn’t done…”

“Nina!” Amelia yells as the two of you descend to check on your loved one. She’s been doing a lot of yelling today hasn’t she?
Still a pulse. Thank fuck. “She’s breathing, slowly…” You sigh in relief, but it’s short lived – your back and your arms and legs are still in pain!

The battle is over, but is there more?!

Your body is in incredible pain, more so now that you relaxed a little. You carry your beautiful girlfriend in your arms, ignoring your arms crying out for rest.

You turn to Amelia and your other friends. “We need to go.”
“I would advise you to do so.” It’s the ex-terrorist slime guy in the turtleneck, dragging Ka-Shing with him. “The police will get here as soon as this red veil disappears.”
“I got you covered.” Matilda responds to the ex-terrorist, then turns to you. “When I went to the clinic, I had a little chat with your friend the detective. He came up with a plan to request help from the police force, then false-flagged another place with a red zone of his own. We should be clear for now.” Cunning plan, Matilda and Richard! You feel proud you know such capable people.
The man with the goo bubbles shakes his head. “That’s nice and all, but the cult will get here too. It’s easier to deal with everyone when they’re fighting each other, and the cult are notorious opportunists. At least their force will be divided this time around, if your false flag works.” No plan is perfect, but this one is close enough!

You take this time to thank the man for his help!
“Mr. Ex-terrorist and your partner… Thanks for the help!” You bow to him in genuine gratitude. Without him being here to keep Icioba down, who knows how much more damage the monster could have done with all the time he had?! Your gesture not only catches him off guard but almost makes him laugh.
“You’re the kid taking care of Rise, yeah? Tell her I said hi... and that I’m sorry.” Not sure if that’s going to do anything. You’ll probably do it anyway. She won’t care, but it’s the thought that counts!

“Are you guys going to be okay?” Amelia asks a good question. They did just get all their barricades destroyed, and their building lobby looks like a war zone.
“We have a bunker down below. I don’t think the boss cares if I give you guys that information. We’re going to be fine for a while, and if we are not... Well, it was a nice run while it lasted.” He smirks down at Ka-Shing. “But don’t count my boss out. He’s like a cockroach, and he’s richer than I’ll ever be in two lifetimes. If we make it out of what comes after, we can recover easily.”

“An ally of justice won’t perish in front of ME! Not if I have anything to say about it! I’ll protect you and your cockroach friend!” WILDFLAME poses. He looks really rough too, so you don’t know how much help he can give.
“That’s not how you treated me before… But hey, it would be a nice change of pace working with you for the day.” Didn’t they fight against each other? Doesn’t WILDFLAME remember the bombing?
WILDFLAME stands up perfectly straight and salutes! “You have my word, random citizen!” WILDFLAME’s will won’t bend! Yup. Real bad memory.

“Goodbye! Sorry for the mess we caused!” Henry waves at the terrorist and WILDFLAME.
“Enjoy those vacations, man!” You call out to the chill dude.

As soon as you guys fly out of the building, you spot Osgood’s van coming your way! Wait, the Crimzone shouldn’t let it work?! How?! As soon as you’re about to voice these questions, they are answered immediately as Bradford peeks out of passenger’s window!

“We needed a way to escape, so I dragged him along too. He stayed back to check on Osgood and get the car ready.” Matilda briefly explains. She’s really a great support character, isn’t she?!
You never thought Bradford could be this useful. His ability seemed pretty ineffectual at first – but now that you think about it, isn’t the Crimzone supposed to be a Judge ability? If he can make things he touches immune to any entity effects, then he can make machines work in the Crimzone! Incredible!

And so your team gets inside the van! Somehow Osgood is driving it with one of his arms broken, making you skeptical about this being a relaxing trip.

“Uff! We did it!” Amelia’s lying in her seat almost as dead as she was after her training. “You know flying you guys everywhere takes a lot out of my legs…” She’s not even the one piloting the cloud! The hell is she talking about?!
“Are you fucking kidding me? Nobody died?!” Osgood is out of words as he continues driving. “This is too… like… good for it to be true, you know? I completely expected at least one person to die like a bitch out of nowhere.” You are tempted to say a line about how suicidal Osgood used to be, but that would’ve been a dick move. Talking hurts anyway, so you stay quiet.
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We don’t know what the real damage ended up being. Besides, we still need to deal with her…” Matilda looks at Nina.

“What’s going to happen to her? Are we getting rid of her flame or what?” Henry asks the most important question now. Nina’s flame is looking bigger, but it’s still pitifully weak… As you are driven back home, you wonder what will happen to the woman you love after this…

Read the post. It's fat man Bradford's ability. He makes objects he touches ignore entity effects. He's in the car touching it, so the car works in the red zone. When he gets out of the car and stops touching it, the car stops working like everything else.

His question is still valid. Why not get A gun at least.

Yeah if we can get him a gun, then he wouldn't need as strict training. Firing rang time would be mandatory, then he can just cap everyone dumb enough to fight him. Now he doesn't need to be a liability, hell we can probably get a guy for that through some of our contacts.
