Far off, nestled in an otherwise small Japanese town lies the Dark Gate Academy. An institution of tremendous size, the Academy holds a long kept secret. Unknown to the outside world, this unseemly town is home to a tear in our reality. A gate between our world and a bizarre dimension known as the Darkworld. The inhabitants of this hellish world breach this gate and attempt to flood into our reality and spread throughout the world on a regular basis. However, the Dark Gate Academy is home to students of truly extraordinary abilities. The ability to sense the presence of these evil Darkworld creatures, and defeat them in combat, sending them back through the gate.

They cannot close the rift between our world and the Darkworld, but the students and staff of Dark Gate Academy have dedicated their lives to using their amazing powers to hold back the darkness that plagues our world, even if it costs them their lives. They have risen up to the challenge and in secret have become great heroic defenders of the world as we know it.

For many years, Dark Gate Academy has held back the forces of the Darkworld, kept this unspeakable evil contained within their walls in secret. But now, with their existence revealed, a great cloud of change looms over Dark Gate Academy.

"Act-sensei? I... I have something I have to tell you."

You take a nervous gulp as you look up at Act Nakatoni, you current gym teacher, a veteran of Dark Gate Academy, a powerful woman with a crazy violent streak... and the mother of your girlfriend.

“What d'ya want, chump?” she asks, glaring at you with her one remaining eye. “Can't you see I'm with my baby girl?”

You look to Mayu who stares at you with wide eyes. She can see the fear in your own eyes, but she remains calm and collected as ever. She gives you a nod, you suck it up, and you turn back to Act.

“I know... this is something that involves her as well...” you explains.

Act grunts. “What? What about my baby? Is she in trouble?”

You panic as Act's nostrils flare up, waving your hands in front of your face frantically. “No, no! She's fine! She's more than fine, in fact...”

“Stop beating around the bush,” Act replies. “If you have something to say, just spit it out.”

You take a deep breath. “Well... you see, as you know myself and your daughter are quite close. Well... we're closer than you think. Over the last year, we've come to care for each-other a lot. In fact... we've fallen in love, and we've been dating for a while.”

No response from Act. She remains still.

“Uhh...”

Act slowly stands upright, towering over you with her sword hanging by her side. She stares at you, her eye wide with hate, as she reaches out...

You flinch, only to pause. Act merely places her hand on your head, patting your head as she smirk. “Yeah, I know.”

“Y-you do?”

“How stupid do you think I am?” Act asks. “You too, Mayu! You think I'm slow or something? You can't hide anything from me! I have a good eye, har har!”

“S-sorry...” you mutter. “So... uhh, is that it?”

Act smirks. “Yeah.”

You gulp. “Really? We're good? You don't have a problem with me seeing your daughter?”

Act shakes her head. “Sure, we're good. My baby is a big girl now, she can make her own decisions. And you're a good kid, ya know. I owe you for saving my life.”

“So I can continue seeing your daughter?” you ask in a hopeful tone.

“Sure!” Act smiles as she walks past you. “As long as you can defeat me.”

“Sure thing, I-wait, what?!” you exclaim, as Act turns her back to you.

“What?” she asks. “You thought it'd be that easy? You think you're good enough for my little girl? That you can lie to me? No... my Mayu deserves someone strong, and if you can't defeat me in battle, then you don't even deserve to look at my little girl. If you aren't a spineless little rat bastard coward... I'll be waiting in the courtyard.”

With that, Act strides out of the auditorium, and you begin to panic. “M-Mayu! What did your mother just say?!”

Mayu sadly shakes her head. “I knew she would react like this... it seemed like she was taking it well at first... Kazuma...”

“I-I can't beat her!” you mutter. “T-there's no way! It... maybe it's just a test? She want to test my courage and see if I'll come out? There's no way she'd actually... fight me, right?”

“I do not think my mother is playing any trick,” Mayu explains. “She is a very straightforward woman.”

“Did I really just hear that?!” Chuichi exclaims. “You can't fight Act-sensei!”

Mio nods her head. “Yeah, listen to your mother... wait, where is your mother? And Kiriko?”

“Kiriko teleported away after talking to Roka, and Namika is meeting with Wei,” Chuichi explains.

“But I'm still here!” Saki-senpai exclaims as she steps in. “Kazuma-kun, don't even think about it! If Act-sensei is serious, we'll deal with this. Mayu, talk some sense into your mother!”

“My mother?” Mayu mutters, turning quiet and reserved at the though. “I... I cannot do that...”

Saki shakes her head. “Okay, I'll deal with it myself. Kazuma, you sit right there. I know you can be competitive, but this...”

>Senpai, I'm accepting her challenge. It'll be okay.

"What?!" Saki exclaims. "Kazuma-kun, you can't possibly expect to-"

"I don't expect to," you reply. "I don't expect to beat Act-sensei. But if I don't stand up for myself, for my relationship... if I don't show her that I'm willing to fight... then what am I worth? I'll accept her challenge, and I'll probably lose. I'll definitely lose. But maybe if I can earn her respect..."

Saki tilts her head. "Kazuma-kun, don't get me wrong. I do worry about you and I understand where you're coming from. But I was not even remotely concerned about your inner conflict and desire for respect and fully concerned about a student getting into a physical altercation with a member of staff on parent's day! Are you really so adamant about this?"

"Yes, Saki-senpai..." you give Saki a bow. "Please... I'm asking you to allow this of me. It'll be okay, I promise."

Saki shakes her head and lets out a sigh. "You're really set on this, huh... fine, go ahead. I'll stay nearby, keep an eye on this. I'll make sure nobody else gets caught up in your challenge, and I'll step in if it looks like either of you will get seriously hurt."

"That's fine by me," you reply, before turning to Mayu. "You're okay with this, right Mayu?"

Mayu pauses. You can't blame her for being sheepish at a time like this. Mayu has always had a fear of her mother's volatile state, and now that's bubbling over into a dangerous situation. "Kazuma... I know my mother better than anyone. Accepting her challenge is the only option. If you do not, she will treat you worse than you can imagine. Still... be careful, Kazuma. I cannot bear to watch, but you stand no chance against my mother. Please ensure that not a drop of blood is spilled."

"I promise," you reply. "Come on, senpai."

As you turn to leave, you hear your classmates talking behind you. "Huh," Chuichi comments. "Kaz is actually looking pretty cool right now. You go, buddy!"

"Indeed," Mayu notes. "I have never been more attracted to Kazuma than I am in this moment."

"A little too much information, Mayu..." Mio mumbles before giggling.

You step outside, and are greeted by Act standing in the centre of the snowy courtyard, pacing back and forth with her sword slung over her shoulder. "Someone's been hesitating, yes yes..."

"No hesitating," you reply, throwing off your jacket and summoning your own sword as Saki looks mortified in the background. "I'm ready to go. Are you-"

"FIRST SHOT!" Act screams.

A silence passes, neither of you moving, as you look confused. "Huh?"

"You get first shot!" Act exclaims. "Don't look a give horse in the mouth, you runt! Come at me!"

Act is possibly the most powerful human fighter around right now, so you can't afford to make any mistakes. You've got throw your all into this. You charge directly at Mayu's mother as she stands waiting for you... and waiting, with her sword by her side. Isn't... isn't she going to try defending herself? At all? You're going straight for her. Is she really going to allow you to ram through her with a sword? You should stop... no, she's trying to fake you out. That's what's going on here.

You keeping pushing as you jam your sword straight through Act... only, you don't. You didn't stop, you didn't hesitate in your attack, but in a split second, Act was no longer at the end of your sword. She... she can't be that fast, right.

"Well done!" Act yells, as you turn around to face her. She doesn't hesitate in slashing her sword in the air several times, sending harsh vibrations towards you. She's so powerful and her blade is so sharp that she can get the air to cut you from a distance. And dodging that attack so quickly... she always mentioned having a good eye, but you always took that as a joke regarding her missing one. She shouldn't even have depth perception...

"Welp, it's all over now!" Act laughs. "You didn't wimp out of your attack, at least! You would have been really pathetic if you had... hmm?"

Act looks genuinely a little surprised as you stands before her, still unscathed.

"You dodged all of that?" Act asks.

"Yeah..." you mutter. "When you stood your ground for the attack, I realised you were planning something like that. You would have destroyed me if I hadn't caught on sooner."

Act nods. "You're right... I'll just have to destroy you in other ways."

Act rushes ahead and kicks you back. You go flying so far, by the time you land on your feet you're standing closer to the school gates.

"HOLD ON!" Saki's voice calls out in the distance. "DON'T LET THIS SPILL INTO THE VILLAGE!"

"Hey Kazuma, what's going on?" an innocent Konami asks, standing by the school gate for her usual protest, joined by another woman who seems vaguely familiar. "You jumped a long way there...Oh, this is Michiko. She says she knows some dirty secrets about the academy that she wants to share with me! Isn't that eye-opening!"

"Uh-huh," you reply. "Not really listening. Look, you might want to clear some way. Me and one of the teachers are... uhh... sparring?"

"Sparring?" Konami scoffs. "If it's only sparring, how dangerous could it be?"

Konami's question is answered as Act leaps after you, her landing on the ground, creating a dust cloud that spreads out on the top of the hill overlooking the village. Konami and Michiko begin to cough as Michiko whines. "I-I can't see! Am I blind?!"

From the dust you see the glint of an eye with murderous intent before leaping out of the way, dodging Act once again. "You're faster than I thought!" Act laughs. "But the mouse is never too fast for the cat!"

"Is that any way to practice with a student?" Konami coughs, but she is quickly silenced into fear as Act glares at her. "Eep!"

Act chases after you again, this time as you stand by the running tracks. Act saunters towards you with her sword at the ready.

You leap back to avoid another swipe from Act. Her personality and demeanour is wild and chaotic... but her fighting style is anything but. Despite only holding one arm, one eye, and an aggressive side the likes you have never seen before, her movements a precise and controlled. She's not just a wild woman, she has trained almost every moment of every day of her life. You don't know how you could possibly move from the defensive in this sword fight... which makes it a good thing you don't just use a sword.

Dodging another strike, you leap into the air and back. While in the air, you summon your rifle and take a shot. The look of surprise on Act's face is genuine... seems she had no idea you owned a ranged weapon. She leaps back to avoid the shot, as you land a safe distance from her and go prone with the rifle in hand. Good... she's dodging back now with each shot you take... rubber bullets, of course, as you want to keep that promise to Mayu, and now your sensei is on the defensive. As long as you keep a good eye on her, you'll be able to keep her back and away from you.

"Sneaky move..." Act grunts. "You don't want to face me like a man? Head to head?"

"I'm not stupid!" you reply. "And what part of shooting at you isn't facing you? We both know this is a fight, not an honourable duel!"

"Har!" Act chuckles. "Well said! But no matter what weapon you use, you're still going to be torn apart! How far have you went with my daughter? Huh?"

"What?"

"Hand-holding? Kissing? All the way? DID YOU DEFLOWER MY PRECIOUS BABY?!"

You shake your head nervously. "T-that's such a... personal question..."

"No, I doubt you have the manhood for the last part," Act smirks.

As Act readies her sword, Saki returns to the scene. "Stop, both of you! I'm not going to let this fight spill all over school grounds!"

"Don't worry shortstack," Act replies. "This will all be over soon."

It should have been over sooner... you've fought smart, but even with you ability to get out of scrapes, you can tell... Act has been pulling her punches with you so far. Like she doesn't take you seriously... she still has no respect for you...

>Saki's right, we shouldn't fight beyond this point!

Act's eye twitches.

"You're... giving up?"

You sigh. "Haven't we done enough here? Haven't I earned your respect. I've answered your challenge, no need to continue fighting-"

Before you can finish, Act dashes in front of you and slices your rifle clean in half. The barrel of the gun lands in the snow, smoke still rising as Act stands before you. Her good eye glows with intensity as she stomps on your head, driving your face into the ground. If it weren't for the cushioning snow, she may have fractured your skull.

"I challenge you to prove yourself," Act mutters. "I challenge you to stand up like a true warrior and fight for what you believe, fight for your apparent love... and you think all it takes is a few swipes and then we end it, laughing and shaking hands over that jolly little spar we had? You're pathetic... you're spineless. You are not worthy of my daughter, you are not worthy of soiling the only family I have left, you pampered city boy bitch. If you ever look at my daughter again, I will rip out your eyes. If you try to speak to my daughter I will cut off your tongue. If you even so much as smell my daughter's presence I will slice your nose clean off your face."

"Nakatoni-sensei, stop this!" Saki exclaims.

"Don't interfere!" Act looks to Saki with an unnatural grin. "Me and Mashita-kun are having a little chat."

Act turns her attention back to you, grabbing you by the hair. "Draw your sword."

"N-No..." you mutter. "Act-sensei, I don't want to-"

"You accepted the challenge and now you will finish it," Act replies. "If you don't want me to consider you a worm, prove that you're not. Grow a spine, and draw your sword. If you don't, I will take my precious Mayu away with me, so we can train together away from this horrid school. Far away from you, Mashita. What do you have to say to that. Draw!"

"Asai..." Act's eye widens as she moves her foot from the back of your head, and you immediately grab your sword and swing at her. She dodges, but you keep up the pace. "Kankuro... KANKURO!"

"NO!" you yell, cutting her off, placing your balled fist to your chest proudly. "MY NAME IS KAZUMA! I AM NOT MY FATHER! I'M ME DAMMIT!"

"Kazuma-kun..." Saki mutters.

"AND IF I HAVE TO FIGHT FOR WHAT I BELIEVE IN, IF I HAVE TO DIE FOR WHAT I BELIEVE IN... THEN SO BE IT! BECAUSE KAZUMA ASAI IS A FIGHTER FOR LOVE AND PEACE!"

"What a lame line..." Act smirks, gripping her blade tightly. "Asai... come."

You charge, and the two of you clash swords. You don't know what's gotten in to you, it's like you're moving while possessed. But somehow, someway, you're keeping up with Act's movements. She's still definitely faster and stronger, but you can register her movements like you couldn't before, and on instinct you're able to dodge and weave and clash swords. You even come close to catching her a few times. You also come within an inch of being sliced yourself, but your mind is racing too much to even register that. You take a slash and spin around, kicking a clump of snow up towards Act's face. She takes a step and slashes the clump.

"Trying to blind me?" Act notes. "Smart, but it's not going to work."

You smirk. "That wasn't what I'm blinding you with."

Before Act can question you, you shift the angle of your blade. Snow is the most reflective natural surface on earth, and the sun was beginning to peak through the clouds. You just needed to find the right position to hit that reflected light off your blade and into Act's good eye. She fights against the glare, but shuts her eye for a split second. That brief window is all you needed, leaping with a kick to her face, followed by coming down upon her with a slash. Act isn't moving even close to her peak potential. While she's trying to remain calm, you've noticed her breathing is rapid and inconsistent, and her footing is all off. This is the advantage you needed, this is your chance to capitalise and win this thing.

Act just about manages to block the attack, but you see the panic in her face. You notice she took the hilt of her sword in her mouth, holding it between her teeth to block the attack. Using her free hand she grabs you by the wrist, holding you both in place.

"KAZUMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

You mother cries out as she rushes to the scene. She's pushes herself so much that her wheelchair spins out of control and she ends up falling on her face before the running tracks.

"Mom!" you call out.

"Namika-sensei!" Both Saki and the approaching Mayu call out as they rush to help her up.

Act doesn't pay any mind to her approaching daughter. With her twitching eye and her off-pattern breathes, her focus is still entirely on you. "Kankuro Asai... I should have realised... the date of your birth didn't add up... seems my friend told me a big fat lie..."

"Act... come to your senses..." your mother mutters.

"I should have realised myself..." Act replies. "Your fighting style is all off... but that fire behind your eyes. That drive, that determination... it's all his. That bastard's spawn... touching my daughter...."

You grimace in pain as Act's nails sink deep into your wrist, drawing blood. In a moment, you pull your sword away and use the blade to catch the blood before it stains the snow beneath you.

Act stands in confusion as her grip on your wrist loosens. "Why would you do that? What's the point?"

"I..." you mutter, "I promised Mayu that I wouldn't allow a drop of blood to spill..."

"Kazuma..." Mayu mutters. "Mother, stop this."

Act stares at you, then to her daughter, and smiles before putting her sword away. "You don't have to tell me, darling. We're done here."

"We... are?" you ask.

"Yes. Get up... Kazuma Asai."

You stand upright as Act playfully raps your forehead with her knuckles. "You've got a strong son, Namika. He's got your pig-headedness."

Namika lets out a sigh as she's helped back to her chair. "Act... you were prepared to hurt my son. How could you do this... I can't forgive something like that, even from my best friend."

As the agents come down with their guns at the ready, Act shakes her head and throws up her arm. "I get it. Take me away."

"Assaulting a student like that..." Green mutters. "I knew it was a mistake to bring you on board. Someone unstable like you shouldn't be anywhere near children."

"You okay, Kaz?" Blue asks. "You must have taken a hell of a beating."

"I'm fine, thanks..." you reply.

Mayu looks to Green. "You intend to take my mother to solitary confinement?"

"From her actions, it seems the only course necessary. We hope you'll come willingly, Nakatoni. If not, Agent White is standing at the ready-"

"You think I'd waste time fighting you runts?" Act laughs. "Just hurry it up."

"Act-sensei..." you mutter.

"Mother..."

Act gives a small smile. "I deserve this... listen to me, Mayu. I love you more than anything in the world... this earth and the other are a bitch, and you're the one bright spark left in my life. Sometimes I know... sometimes I realise how I've been... how I am... and I'm sorry, Mayu. It's just... hard to get that fog to clear..."

"M-Mother..." a tearful-eyed Mayu mutters.

>Stop! Don't take her away! I agreed to this, and she never seriously hurt me!

"What?" Green mutters. "Are you serious? You agreed to this?"

You nod. "Yes. She gave me the offer to a duel, and I took it. She was pulling her punches on me and everything! There's no issue here! She doesn't deserve solitary confinement."

"Is that so...?" Green raises an eyebrow, sceptical.

Act lets out a bored yawn. "Will you decide already? My arm's getting tired."

Blue lets out a small laugh. "Well, I can trust Kaz's word. I guess there's no issue here. What do you think, Namika?"

"Me?" Namika asks.

"You are Vice Principal, and it seems you were witness to this fight," Green explains. "What should be done with Act?"

Your mother hesitates. You can tell she's still angry with Act... and rightfully so. She looks to her old friend then looks to you, before turning to the agents. "She's free to go. This was a spar that got a little heated. Act is eccentric, but she still has the student's safety at heart. But... if this incident happens again, there will be consequences."

As the agents make their way back to the school, Blue helping your mother in her wheelchair, Act mutters. "Should have taken me..."

"I'm sorry, but I know you're not going to do anything like this again," you reply. "Uhh... right? It's hard to tell... I understand, considering who my father is..."

Act looks to you with a terrifying glare, before her face begins to soften. "Nah... you ain't him. To be honest, when I get a good look at you... you've got so much more of your old lady in you?"

You give a small smile. "Well, she did raise me right. Thanks to her, I have the morals and convictions to-"

"No, physically!" she exclaims. "You look like a girl."

"Oh..." you mutter. "Act-sensei... I'm sorry for lying to you... and for dating your daughter."

"Don't apologise for that part!" Act snaps. "You obviously believe in it enough to fight for it... that's good enough for me. My Mayu is big enough to make her own decisions, right darling? Do you wanna be with this guy or what?"

Mayu gives a small smile. "With all my heart, mother."

Act looks taken aback. "A smile... been a long time since I've seen that... you better take care of her, Kazuma!"

"I will," you nod.

"You better not hurt her! And if I find out you did, you won't be breathing much longer!"

"Of course," you reply. Well... there was that incident that left Mayu with a scar on her abdomen... but you know that today has had enough revelations. You and Mayu will cross that bridge when you get to it... if you even need to cross it at all.

Act begins to move, as you call out to her. "Where are you going?"

"I need a nap," Act yawns. "You know, you're a pretty good fighter..."

"I almost beat you, huh?"

"HAR!" Act chuckles. "Not even close! But you did almost make me use my secret ability..."

"Yeah... wait, secret what-now?!" you exclaims. "W-was that a joke? Do you really have a secret power?! Yo, Act-sensei! Heeeeey!"

As Act walks away, Mayu turns to you. "You truly put yourself at risk for me... why?"

>Because you're very special to me, Mayu.

"K-Kazuma..." Mayu blushes, hanging her head down in embarrassment. "I understand... you are very special to me, as well. And now... now we can be together... Kazuma..."

Mayu moves rapidly and gives you a quick peck on the lips. Her face is turning redder by the second, and you aren't much different. "Mayu... you caught me off-guard..." you chuckle a little, as you both slowly intertwine your hands, walking together back up to the dorm.

"You idiot!" Kiriko exclaims as she karate kicks you in the face, knocking you over the couch. "Picking a fight with Act-sensei! I can't leave you alone for a second!"

"And why did you leave again?" Chuichi ponders.

Kiriko blushes. "N-No reason! Shut up!"

"You really took on Act by yourself?" Gado smirks. "You're braver than I thought, Kaz."

"Pretty foolish, though..." Anri points out.

You sigh. "I know..."

Mio giggles as she helps you to your feet. "So, does this mean I don't have to pretend to be your girlfriend on school grounds anymore?"

"Looks that way."

"Oh, boo..." Mio pouts before giving a playful grin. "It was starting to get really fun. The jealous stares from Mayu were so cute... just like the one she's giving me now!"

You don't know how Mio interprets those stares as cute. The word you'd use is terrifying.

Risa shakes her head. "Well, I'm glad that's all over and done with. I think we were all as a class getting sick of that drama."

"The tension was causing a lot of undue stress," Makoto agrees. "I really hope it doesn't reflect on our grades."

"Oh yeah!" Chuichi sucks. "Makoto, if my grades suck this semester, that's why! I just couldn't focus on my schoolwork, I was so worried!"

>I think we still have our fair share of drama to deal with...

"Dude, that's a secret!" Chuichi moans.

Amaya looks at him in disgust. "You really do that? Oh, Chuichi! That is repulsive!"

"I know, right?" Mio adds. "The internet exists, who buys magazines anymore?"

"H-hey!" Chuichi protests, but the group teasing has already turned to him.

"Don't you have a phone?" Hanako points out. "You would be able to look it up online during class instead of hiding a magazine..."

Atasuke smirks. "Oh, is that so? Why do you know that, Hanako?"

"I-I-I'm just speaking from common sense!" the nervous Hanako replies. "I... I wouldn't ever myself..."

And now the teasing turns to Hanako. You let out a small chuckle to yourself. "Something funny?" Kiriko asks.

"No, just glad to have these friends," you reply.

Sae groans. "Geez, Kaz. I get that it's a big day for you, but no need to make things sappy!"

"It was pretty weak," Ninsei admits.

Alice smiles warmly. "I think it's sweet! Also, I borrowed your headphones Kazuma. This section in your music called... gangsta rap is great! Wait... it's great, yo!"

As the class jokes around and goofs off, you briefly make the way from the lounge to your room to grab an extra layer of clothes as the evening grows colder. On your way out, you spot Roka in the hallway. "You don't have to avoid all social situations, you know."

"It's not for me," Roka mutters.

"Kiriko is there, you could always hang out with her."

Roka blushes and looks away. "She and I... had a fight, or whatever."

"You two always fight, when does that change-"

"I-It's not important!" Roka fires back, hiding his embarrassment. Weird. "So... you fought Act-sensei. Heard you did pretty well... kinda makes me want to try challenging her as well."

"Wait, she has a special ability?" Roka asks, stunned, before muttering under his breath. "Damn, that sounds so cool..."

"I know, right!" you exclaims. "So cool!"

You and Roka spend a brief moment fanboying over the possibilities before eventually regaining your senses. "Well, as usual I guess you're not interested in hanging out with the class."

Roka shakes his head. "Not a chance. Why would I be interested in... whatever it is you're doing."

"Well, we were going to sit down and watch Star Wars," you explain.

Roka's head perks up. "Star Wars? Dammit... I love Star Wars..."

"I like it too?!" you reply. "It's my favourite movie trilogy ever!"

"It should be!" Roka shakes his fist. "Nothing's better than that! Uhh... maybe I'll be in the room while the movie is on..."

You give a small nod as you enter the room, Roka awkwardly trailing behind you as you take a seat on the couch. Roka leans against the wall by the hallway, as Kiriko looks at him and lets out a sigh. "Sit next to us, you big dumb ape! Come on!"

Roka sits next to Kiriko, and the two blush before nuzzling closer together. Meanwhile, Mayu stands up and addresses the class. "Kazuma recently introduced me to these films, and while I never watch any films or tv as a child, I can safely say I have a great admiration for this trio. A thrilling space adventure, full of twists and turns, and poetic battles of drama and-"

"Wow, Mayu's really become a real nerd since dating Kaz," Risa jokes. "Let's get rolling with the movie!"

You and the rest of the class huddle together on the couch, blankets and snacks aplenty, as you sit down for a movie marathon. Mayu is in rapt attention at the edge of her seat, just as she had been when you first introduced her to it, while Roka can't take his eyes of the screen... partly to avoid making awkward eye contact with your sister.

Times like this... you're glad to have times like this... oof, you always grimace at the part where the hand comes off... anyway, you're grateful to be able to do this. Finally, without a care in the world.

The next morning, you wake up to grab some coffee from the lounge, and you spot Act strolling out the front of the dorms. You pour a second cup and bring them outside with you. "Coffee, sensei?"

Act looks to you and gives a nod. "Thanks."

She takes the mug in hand and begins to sip on the coffee. You can't for the life of you understand how she can handle the cold weather in those loose, traditional robes. Drinking the coffee with a pipe still hanging out of her mouth, she speaks. "I was thinking a lot on this morning walk... my mind doesn't do much thinking lately... I blame you."

"Sorry."

Act laughs. "Har! You know, Kazuma... when I look at you, I still feel angry. Like I said yesterday, you've got your old man's eyes. I feel like I'm being mocked when you look at me... but you're a good kid. I'm not going to blame you for how you were born..."

"Sensei?"

Act looks like she's fighting back tears. "I died when Kano did. The life we had made, the future we had planned... it was all gone in an instant. And Mayu... she was always so quiet before, odd and distant... but she was never cold until her father died. After he was gone, my baby was downright frozen... seeing it broke something in me... and I think I only made things worse for her. It's amazing she can still walk around and... a-and yesterday... she smiled. A real smile... I'm so proud of her..."

>Sensei, I'm sorry for everything that's happened to you.

Act looks to the dorms and smiles. "She sure is... my precious baby... where is she, anyway? She's usually up earlier than this!"

"I told her to get some more sleep," you explain. "We kinda had a long night..."

"What?" Act glares.

"W-watching movies!" you clarify. "N-nothing else!"

Act smirks. "The way you get flustered is so amusing... Kazuma, just because I'm okay with you seeing my daughter doesn't mean I'm okay with your father."

"Wouldn't expect you to be," you reply. "Not that it really matters. My father is long gone. We all know that."

"Do we?" Act asks, tilting her head. "You don't sound convinced when you speak. You speak in a way that makes me think you believe he's alive. Is that right?"

"Well..."

Act shakes her head. "It's not a trick question, you don't need to panic or anything. I guess we both believe he's still alive, then."

"Both?"

"You and me, yeah..." Act replies. "I think he's still out there too. In fact, knowing him, I can guarantee it. And I'll be sure to ram my sword into that bastard when we cross paths again!"

"I don't know..." you reply. "I used to be completely sure of it as well, but over the last year... what makes you so certain he's out there?"

Act laughs. "Har! Isn't it obvious how I know?" "

"How?"

Act smiles. "Because I've seen him."

“Yo, Hiro! Bro, is this your dad?”

Seishiro rushes up to Hiro accompanied a moustachioed man in a vest. The man smiles as his son's classmate approaches. “Oh, and who might you be?”

Hiro turns to his dad. “Oh, this is my friend Seishiro Ozaki. Seishiro, this is my dad. Tatsumi Tanahashi.”

“Pleasure to meet you,” Tatsumi offers a handshake to Seishiro. “Gotta say, I didn't expect my son to be friends with someone so... loud. I always took him to be quite a shy lad.”

“Well, I'm full of surprises!” Seishiro boasts. “Like, did you know I'm dating a nerd? An actual nerd! She likes science and everything!”

“Uh...huh,” Tatsumi nods, before turning to his son in confusion.

Hiro smiles. “Seishiro's very nice. Of all my friends in school he's one of my closest.”

Seishiro's eyes widen. “Whoa... and you're friends with everyone!”

Tatsumi smirks. “Everyone? Hiro, why didn't you tell me you were so popular?”

Hiro shrugs. “I don't know, I guess it's a little embarrassing...”

Tatsumi chuckles as he ruffles the hair of his much shorter son. “Well, I'm sure your friend has a bunch of stories about you. Considering his popularity, I'm sure my Hiro is a secret ladies man, right?”

“Daaaaad...” Hiro mumbles.

Seishiro nods enthusiastically. “Oh man, you don't even know! I have no idea how he does it! But he has ladies swarming around him all the time and he always keeps his cool!”

Hiro lets out a nervous laugh as Tatsumi smirks. “I'm just teasing, son... but on that note, which girl is Nariko?”

“Daaaaaaaad!” Hiro blushes.

Meanwhile, behind the corner, Nariko watches the proceedings with a red face. She turns her head back around the corner and cups her blushing face in her hands with a smile. “I just overheard something wonderful...”

Sora leans against the wall beside her, his arms folded and a small smile on his face. “I'm happy for you, Nariko.”

Nariko gives a smirk towards Sora. “Ah... jealous, are you?”

Sora shakes his head. “Maybe in another life. I have no interest for any of that in this one.”

“Another life, huh?”

Sora laughs. “Why yes. I imagine if things had worked out different, the two of us... well, I was told I was quite the casanova before all that happened. Looking back, it's hard to disagree with that statement.”

Sora looks off into the distance, as Nariko gives a small pout. “All that happened...” she mutters. “I guess this must be difficult day for you... and your little brother. How is Ninsei?”

Sora turns to face Nariko. “He's spending the day in town with his friend, Tami. She has her own parental issues... I asked Ninsei if he wanted to talk, but he declined.”

“He usually does.”

“But this time it was different...” Sora explains. “He asked if it could wait for another day, as his thoughts were clouded on a day that gives him such terrible memories. He didn't refuse to speak to me this time, only asked to do it another time, when his mind is clearer... I consider that a good sign.”

“Well I hope he doesn't change his mind!” Nariko smiles. “You know how moody he can be, and I know a thing or two about mood swings!”

The two share a laugh, as Nariko puts a hand on Sora's shoulder. “Hey, you want to meet my mom? She's been eager to introduce herself to all my friends. C'mon, it'll be fun!”

“I thought you'd be eager to meet Hiro's father,” Sora points out.

Nariko's face turns to a bright red once more. “N-not now! T-t-that can wait! I need to work up the courage! N-now you've got me all worked up, you jerk!”

“This is soooooooo boring...”

Miss Hirashi sprawls out over the table in the teacher's lounge as she lets out a yawn. Green stares at her unamused, a cup of coffee in hand. “If you're so bored, why don't you head outside?”

Hirashi shakes her head. “I can't do that! Then I'll get mobbed by all of the parents out there! Even if some of the dads are hot, I don't want to have all these strangers gushing about their kid to me...”

“You're a really superficial person, aren't you?” Mr Kudawa mutters, reading a book in the corner. “I'm happy to receive this reprieve.”

Blue crosses his arms. “No enthusiasm at all. Look at all of you. A bunch of background characters.”

“Hey!” Hirashi pouts. “We're not background characters!”

“Oh yeah?” Blue raises his eyebrow. “Just look at that guy! I've never seen him around before! Who even is he?”

Blue points out a man chilling in the corner of the room, drowning out the conversation with music on his headphones.

“That's Takahashi-san,” Hirashi points out. “He teaches science.”

“Exactly,” Blue points out. “Don't think the man's ever said a word.”

“He's just here to do his job,” Kudawa points out. “Besides, aren't the two of you hiding out here as well?”

“At least Greeny and I have an excuse,” Blue explains.

Green nods. “Vice Principal Namika and Agent White agreed that we shouldn't openly patrol the school today. It gives off an impersonal, militaristic vibe to the school.”

“Which is total bunk,” Blue points out. “I'm the most personable person in this place.”

“You're antsy today,” Hirashi points out. “Usually you're the easygoing one, and Green is the grump.”

“Well Green is happy to follow orders,” Blue points out. “I want to be out there today. We've got a... you know, a kid to look after...”

Green shakes his head as he sips his coffee. “I've told you time and time again. Just because she's legally adopted by the agency doesn't mean you and I have any responsibility to parent her. You're too attached, she's a junior agent and nothing more.”

Blue shakes his head. “You know that ain't true... ah, screw this...”

Blue moves to the door of the teacher's lounge, prompting Green to swing his head back. “Where are you going?”

“Don't get your knickers in a twist,” Blue replies. “I'm not gonna be patrolling or anything. I'll just be meeting with Akuro. She's an orphan on parent's day, I'm not leaving the kid alone.”

Blue steps out of the teacher's lounge and makes a beeline for the exact location where he knows Akuro will be. Where else, but visiting her brother?

Green creaks open the door of the Nurse's office, as he spots Akuro standing by the bedside of her brother Raiden, fluffing his pillows. “Hey junior, how's it going?” Blue smirks.

No reply from Akuro, who is deliberately ignoring him.

“Silent treatment, huh?” Blue sighs. “Is this because of the Anri Kitamura thing? Because I've apologised a ton for that.”

Still no reply.

“Come on!” Blue laughs. “You're going to ignore me today, of all days? It's Parents Day?”

“And you're not my real dad,” Akuro mutters, harshly. “You're not even my adopted dad. I'm owned by an agency, and you're not special. You lie to me like all the others...”

“Junior...”

“I've got no parents, no friends, no brother...” Akuro mutters. “Nothing...”

Blue shakes his head, approaching Akuro and placing his hand at the top of her hair. “Okay, stop that. First off, you do have a brother. He's lying right there, and he will wake up. Secondly, you do have friends. A whole class of them, even if you've tried to make them hate your guts. And third, you do have a parent. Whether you like it or not, you've got me. And I'll always be here for you, Akuro.”

Akuro hangs her head low. “Weren't you supposed to lay low today?”

“You're right,” Blue notes. “I was. I was thinking we could lay low in the village. I'll buy you lunch. You like that new burger place, right?”

“I'm not interested,” Akuro replies. “Leave me alone.”

Blue shakes his head. “C'mon, you can barely keep a straight face.”

“S-sure I can...” Akuro mutters, cracking up. “I'm super angry, I... I swear!”

Blue smirks. “Junior, you're awful.”

“Cut it out!” Akuro giggles. “This is your fault, dad!”

“... What was that?”

“Uhh... daddy-o!” a nervous Akuro replies, trying to shoot finger guns to cover for her awkward blurt. “J-just... forget you heard that...”

“I will if you come eat burgers with me,” Blue replies.

“... Fine, you win.”
