Welcome to the world of Pokemon, a wonderous place full of mystical and powerful creatures known as Pokemon. These Pokemon share this world with people; some as friends, some as pets, others as co-workers, and some as tools. This is a story about one among a group that treats Pokemon as tools; Team Rocket. This may be a story of a failure, a coward, or a rat, and their effect on the world around them, no matter how large or small it may end up being. Will you guide them to the infamy and wealth they desire, or will they fall to the wayside as another nameless face in the crowd, or maybe something completely different from the path they originally choose. Well then, it is time to pick your ‘starter’ as it were.

You were formerly a registered trainer but becoming a Pokemon Master didn’t really pan out how you planned. The Cerulean City Gym was tough on you, and when you took a break to try that bridge challenge you passed it with flying colors and were recruited. The opportunity seemed much more lucrative to your childish mind, and you had yet to really grasp what you were getting yourself into.
+You are a fairly new recruit and not many people expect a 10 year old to rob them, most police who see the R on your shirt will assume it stands for something else until you become particularly notorious.
+You still have your starter Pokemon and a small amount of experience in traveling
-You are 10 years old, and without Pokemon you won’t be strong arming anyone without a few years and a whole lot of Moo Moo Milk
-You still have some friends and family who may recognize you if they see you

You were a refugee of sorts from the Orre region. There was something big going down there with Pokemon going wild and attacking people randomly and you decided to bail. The region that is fairly barren of Pokemon left people more self reliant than other regions, and it shows on you. It just happened that people don’t like self reliance in the region you ended up in, or at least they don’t like it from someone as thuggish looking as you. Without the experience with Pokemon needed in many jobs, you began to look for employment elsewhere.
+You are 18 and skilled in survival of harsh environments as well as strong enough to hold your own against most regular people
+The scarcity of Orre has left you able to survive with less food and water than most and in places most others couldn’t
=You are a big guy, bigger than most of the natives your age of this region. This makes you easier to pick out, but also makes it easier to intimidate or fight without the aid of Pokemon.
-A chunk of people of Kanto or Johto aren’t particularly fond of foreigners, and you are definitely foreign.
-You have little experience even interacting with Pokemon, much less training them
>>
You were a street rat, born into the life style of crime. Joining the team was just inevitable, unless you actually wanted to have no backup when you were eventually caught. The application process was fairly easy, not like you needed to learn how to be a criminal, you had all the resources and practice you needed. The test was more of a formality than anything else.
+You know how to lock pick, pick pocket, and make clean breaks into crowds or alleys when needed
+You are skilled in running and are dexterous enough to make it around cities and similar environments fairly easily
=You are a city boy at heart, while you are skilled in navigating the concrete jungle of cities, you are much less proficient at staying alive in the actual wilds
-You are a malnourished 13 year old and without Pokemon you can’t handle physical altercations with most people.
-You are a known trouble maker and Police are wary of you, start openly donning the R and you will be swiftly taken to jail

The lights and sounds of Safforn city pounded against the walls of the building you were finishing your test at. For the most part it was things you were familiar with, besides a few tests with equipment, but you were on the higher end of the spectrum at least.

“Sign your name and take a ball twerp.” A rather bored looking man in the rocket uniform told you. Other than his green hair he wasn’t particularly memorable.

Taking the pen you began to sloppily scrawl your name onto the paper, hey at least you were literate. More than you can say for some of the other orphaned kids you know.

As green guy, who you honestly don’t remember what he introduced himself as, squints at your Torchic scratch for a few moments trying to get a read on it. After a few moments he looks back up to you with a questioning look.

“Only Mike? No last name or anything?” he inquires.

“No, it has only ever been, just Mike.”

You see something in his eye for a second, pity maybe? Regardless you just want to move on from this conversation.

He hesitates for a moment before continuing “Well twerp, grab a ball and get going. The city ain’t gonna terrorize itself.”

You nod and look at the available Pokeballs. 3 small bins filled to the brim with pokeballs. Rattata, Zubat, and Grimer. Rattata always tried to steal your food, all you knew about Zubats was that they hung around in abandon buildings by day, and you could almost smell the foul stench of the Grimers from their balls. Not really the pick of the litter, but its better than nothing you guess.

Rattata’s kind of piss you off and Grimers are just living sewage, so the choice was fairly obvious. You grab the bat ball and pocket it. Shame you don’t have one of those fancy belts that can hold your balls, but it shouldn't be too hard to acquire one.

“Zubat huh? Those damn things give me headaches personally.” Green guy states.

You aren’t really sure why he is trying to act all buddy buddy now, but it doesn’t really matter much to you. You are on your way to bigger and better things.

“Hey twerp, if… if you need any advice on something, just come looking for ol’ Butch.” He gives you a smug grin. Honestly it is kind of awkward and the whole pity thing is starting to annoy you.

I'll use abilities, but I will be rolling for them. You won't find out the abilities until they would come into effect or you find/steal something that can tell you the abilities. If you don't like the ability you get feel free to toss the old Pokemon when you find something better.

You probably won’t go out of your way to talk to this Bilbo, but best not to piss off your superiors right out the gate. “Yeah… Sure thing.”

With that unpleasant exchange out of the way you leave the building with your new belongings in tow; a new Pokemon, a clean uniform, and a walkie talkie. Honestly you were just glad to get something clean to wear for once, even if it does mark you as a criminal.

Your instructions at the end of your orientation were fairly simple. Do whatever you can to steal rare or powerful Pokemon, intimidate locals, or really any other crime that won’t bring too much heat down on the team before you were called in for something big.

You walked the streets, feeling freer than you have ever felt, as if every door was now open to you. Well, more so than they were normally so.

You aren’t in a particularly good part of town. So you don’t really got much to worry about when It comes to the police. Though you make a note to try and cover the R in a nicer parts of town. You creep down an ally, and quickly inspect the area to make sure there is no one like you ready to jump out. Satisfied with your inspection you hide behind a dumpster and quickly change into your new clothes.

The dark baggy clothes hide your rather skinny form, and the black hat finds its place on your dirty brown mop of a head. The only part that makes you apprehensive is the large bold R on the front of your shirt. You know even with how little police presence this part of town has it probably would be best to hid the R.

Easy enough, you simply flip the shirt inside out. Now you are just a regular suspicious looking punk rather than a confirmed criminal grunt.

Pulling out your newly acquired ball you fiddle with it a bit before figuring out how to send out the damn thing. A small bat is released from its container. It excitedly flaps about wildly screeching loudly as it is freed. Or more likely you note, is just trying to get its bearings. It doesn’t have any eyes you can see so the screeching may just be echolocation.

The thing climbs a small height before diving straight for your head.

You bring your arms up to block the coming attack from the crazed Zubat, but it nimbly slips between your panicked fumbling hands and lands firmly on top of your hat. Seemingly content to sit lounge on your head for some reason.

Well at least that is one crisis averted. Lifting your hat off your head you look down at the tiny thing, it… stares? Back at you. Kind of odd for something with no eyes, but you won’t question it.

“So your my partner huh?” you say rather lamely. Not really sure how to talk to a Pokemon.

The Zubat just tilts its head, before giving a minor screech of acknowledgement. At least you think it is, you aren’t really familiar with Pokemon’s cries, much less something as hard to read as a Zubat.

“You really shouldn’t fly at people’s face Zhu.” You pause for a second “well at least not my face.”

You place the bat on a hat back onto your head. You had some business with those rats that you wanted to put to bed. Those filthy thieving sneaks, their future quite bleak, would soon be payed back, for stealing from your food sack.

Ok that was enough of that. Just focus on the task at hand, and drive off those damn rats with your new Zubat.

Darn it.

Getting the rhymes out of your head you return to the dump you rested at and stored some of your loot. A condemned apartment that no one had bothered demolishing, no one really wanted to step foot in it so it was perfect for you. Well was until a pack of Rattatas snuck into the walls. They’d nibble on any food you’d store as well as other things that you happened to bring back. You’ve tried to drive them out on your own but no luck. It made you have to more constantly steal smaller amounts of food since you couldn’t really store anything.

As you approach your room, carefully stepping around the creaking floor boards as you had practiced. You hear the tell tale sounds of a Rattata nibbling on something in the room next door. Peeking inside you see it biting the remaining chunks off a broken chair. Those damn things would knaw anything they could reach. Most of the time not even for any reason, they did it just because they could. This one was one of the smaller ones, weather it was young, a female, or just a runt, you weren’t sure.

Anywho, I'd imagine Zhu would be able to take down a small runt of a Rattata, if he / she has Absorb like all Zubats start out with.

On another note, one of the first things I think we should do is plan a heist and steal pokeballs from the market. Give most of them to Butch for the team rocket cred, keep a few, and start building up a team. Even if our pokemon aren't the strongest we can beat out most people tgrough pure quantity alone, plus we can have them fight each other for training.

Well, Zhu is a bat of all things and Golbat are specifically noted to drink blood.

Odds of Zhu being able to pull a vampire on the sleeping Rattata? Can't fight properly if you're missing a good amount of blood.

I suppose 'pulling a vampire' might just be using Absorb though, huh?

Changing mine too have Mike try and grab the smaller one while Zhu drains the sleeping one. And when he's done draining go for the small one
>>
>>2823831

Gonna second this. Just play to Zhu's strengths, namely being a blood-sucking bat, and hopefully drain the sleeping Rattata dry.

If we're lucky, it's a rather quiet affair and the currently-gnawing Rattata remains unaware.
>>
>>2823844
Mike has no Pokedex or other equipment to check the moveset, and has never seen a Zubat that was active. If Failure was picked at the start, they'd have more of an idea of what a Zubat can do. But as of now, Mike has no clue.

Taking your hat off you look at Zhu in the eyes… where its eyes would be? Regardless “”Zhu, you see those two Rattata? We need to beat them. But we need a plan.”

You point to the sleeping Rat “You see that sleeping one? I want you to sneak up on it and…” You look back at your new bat, trying to think of what it could possible do, “I guess suck its blood? Just bite it while its defenseless ok?”

Zhu gives a quiet murder and flies up as high as the small room would allow. The smaller Rattata was preoccupied with its teething to even notice the bat. Zhu then swoops in to attack.

Grabbing a nearby brick from the floor you toss it at the rat closer to Zhu, hitting your mark and knocking it away from the downed bat. The other smaller Rattata takes not of your assault and turns to face you, as does the one you hit. Neither seem particularly happy.

They are keeping their eyes on you since you are the biggest threat size wise, and the two of them seem to be bordering their fight or flight response. As you have your little stare down Zhu let’s off a loud screech sending out visible sound waves and hitting the bigger of the two Rattatas in the back, heavily disorienting it, as it begins the thrash about violently.

“Keep hold Zhu!” You yell to your partner, their only confirmation being that it’s grip not loosening at all and the continued draining of the Rattata.

With that Rattata being occupied you turn to the other smaller one. It seems to be scared, but it isn’t backing down at all. There isn’t much big enough to throw at the damn thing, but you are able to rip a particularly loose floor board as an unwieldy weapon of sorts.

“Zhu finish it off!” you yell, a giddiness to your voice.

It was honestly exciting to have these Pokemon battle, it brought you back to the days when you would sneak out of the orphanage to watch battles at the cities battle field. That feeling of excitement and the desire for victory filled your young mind, and watching Zhu from a distance suck that last bit of green energy out of that rat next to you gave you some vindication. It gave you the rush you always wanted to feel when competing and fighting against another. The rush you were never allowed to experience.

Even if it wasn’t as impressive as some of the tightens you saw fight in your youth, it was something almost instinctual as you called for your Pokemon to finish off that damn rat. It’s limp body falling to the floor, unconscious.

You wanted more of this. More battles, and more Pokemon to battle with.

You let off a laugh as Zhu returned to its place on you noggin. Giving the little thing a brief pet you left your dump of a shelter. The place felt far too small for you now, for some reason.

You and Zhu had a legend to make.

I'll probably see if my old twitter handle is still active so I can keep people informed on this quest. I'll probably archive the threads to my original handle.
>>
>>2824378
So I'm not sure if we'd need to ask Butch about this, but what are we supposed to do with rare and/or powerful Pokemon we steal? Do we turn them in to the Team for a reward, or are we supposed to hold on to them, or do we decide what to do with them ourselves, or what?
>>
>>2824412
i can see him saying for us to give him the pokemon and so he will tell the high ups we did the job. In other words he's going to steal the credit for himself.
>>
>>2824412
>>2824436
Nah, we know what to generally do and who to give what. I just didn't go into detail over it because I wanted to focus on setting the stage with Mike. It'll be more in depth next session, but basically if you keep the Pokemon you steal, your gonna have to find a way to get them to listen to you, or you can just dead drop the pokeballs for pay/reputation/promotions/etc. You'll occasionally get reports on specific Pokemon or other items to steal that can be useful to you or worth more dead dropped. You'll also be required to fill a quota of Pokemon or other rare items, and be able to order some items using the walkie talkie you got.
>>
>>2824360
Swiping a pokedex is a good idea, but a good short term thing we could do is go to our public library and read up on pokemon training and zubats in general. It would definitely make it easier if we took the time to study the basics.
>>
>>2824465
Will be hard to do that in the nice part if the city. But so long we avoid any place with cops we might manage to do it.
>>
>>2824481

>>
>>2824617

>>
>>2824848

>a street rat suddenly interested in Pokemon training and academics?

>>
>>2825181
Sure but whose gonna tip them off, and they can't do anything without proof. We're a trouble making street rat, not adult career criminal. We just gotta keep our head down and build up our partner and crew a bit before we start seriously committing crimes. Play the long game as it were.
>>
I wonder if we should consider robbing a small temple or altar as our first high profile action. We might be able to capture a Ghastly that way, which would open a lot os heist posibilities and give us extra muscle to the team. Besides, i believe it could use Hypnosis too.
>>
>>2825181
Even if they know our face, getting some weight in time for our growth spur and nice clothes should do the job nicely. Also, it would be the cops of the bad parts of the city that know us as we are just an street rat. We go to the library with a shiny new T-Shirt on us and nobody will bat an eye.
>>
>>2825915
Could we even fight a ghastly with our zubat's current moveset? Can we even capture a ghost pokemon without a pokeball and are we going by game rules where you need an item to even fight one? I want to know these things before we try. But if we can get a ghost pokemon I'm all for it.
>>
>>2825188
>Could we even fight a ghastly with our zubat's current moveset?
You can fight anything with your current moveset, can't guarantee you'll win. Seeing as absorb wouldn't do much against a poison type.
>Can we even capture a ghost pokemon without a pokeball
Most likely not unless you get some ghost type catching equipment, honestly would probably be better to just use a Pokeball
>are we going by game rules where you need an item to even fight one?
That was more of a pokemon disguised as an actual ghost, your not gonna need anything to fight your average ghost type.

You running in this thread?

>Session Start

Victory still fresh in your mind you roam the streets, the shroud of night still covering your back. With you feeling like you were at the top of the world you didn’t bother to worrying about entering a less trashy part of the city. The few police weren’t able to get a good look at your face thanks to your hat, and since you were smart enough to put your shirt on inside out you just had the look of some kid night Noctowl trainer with your Zubat.

You were somewhat more familiar with your partner’s abilities, but it wasn’t enough to actually give you a clear goal in mind. Despite the running high you got from your last battle, you knew just one little Zubat wouldn’t be enough to take on any trainer worth their salt, much less one worth stealing from, so you probably had to be a bit more sneaky about it for now. You could steal some Pokemon, but there is no reason that they’d listen to you, catching one would be a bit of impossibility as long as you don’t have your own pokeballs. The problem stealing said balls is that these days they have all sorts of trackers and other ID technical mumbo jumbo inside them that would mean they would be useless without the tech know how to jail break them. Something to do with the league and the PC system knowing when to teleport the balls back.

Most new balls needed to be quickly registered using those fancy PokeDexs you see trainers with. It wouldn’t be surprising if that fancy technical multi-tool that served as an ID had some kind of tracker too. Thankfully you got a team with the resources to aid you with that little problem, it just would take a bit of time. You could potentially find some older Pokeballs in smaller mom and pop shops instead of the big branch PokeMarts, you’d need to case the joint. Probably look around like some excited kid who just got a Pokemon from some family member and ask all sorts of questions. Unfortunately, most are probably closed at this hour.

Then again, you were under no pretense of how underequipped you were knowledge wise. Most book stores would probably be closed, and you aren’t particularly sure if the library in town was even open. Learning more about your partner and potential challenges you may face would be invaluable, but getting sent to jail for sneaking into a library seemed like a pretty dumb way to go.
>>
>>2826201
You could always call in for some help in what to do. See if there were any jobs the Rocket’s wanted from you, or check what supplies you could order from the team. Just had to enter the right frequency for your call in. During orientation you were forced to memorize the subtle signs of a Rocket dead drop; a place where you could leave items or money to be transported without actually having to meet. You could leave something valuable and in a few hours to a day you’d get something else more useful to you or money. You were given a monthly quota on things stolen or jobs for the team done, but they didn’t seem to expect much of the common grunt as of yet, you had plenty of time for something like that.

You knew of some Pokemon haunts in the city, but it isn’t like you have a way to catch them as of yet. It was potentially a good way to train, but otherwise pointless.

During your musings Zhu decided to hang off the brim of your cap right into your face. It gave a curious cry as you wandered the city seemingly aimlessly. You smirked a bit before gently lifting the Zubat back onto your head. “Well Zhu, how about we…”

“Call the team, could use some direction for now.” You say pulling out your walkie talkie. It was some fancy one that goes under the radar of outsiders or something.

You really didn’t really listen to that portion, just how to use it and what frequencies to use. Setting the correct frequency you call in.

“Testing for the ‘firework safety committee’.” You repeat the phrase you were told to say.

“You’re on the right line, ‘let us blast off for fun’.” With the confirmation code that this was in fact a rocket member you cut to the chase. The voice sounded somewhat familiar.

“It’s Mike, I need…”

Last time I checked, I'm pretty sure Butch is the only Rocket we've really interacted with all that much so maybe it's him?

Can we ask about potential jobs and what's open to us as far as supplies go? I'd be fine with just a Pokeball or two, really.

“A job” you pause for a moment to think “and some supplies, some Pokeballs and maybe some potions if you got any?”

“Ah Mike, it’s me Butch!” oh great, its beltch. “I can get you a job, but you got anything in exchange for those balls and potions?”

Your mouth twists into a frown “exchange?”

“Yeah, can’t really be giving out newbies all our supplies when we don’t even know if they are any good in the field. We use a credit system, you bring us something or leave something at a drop point with your team ID you get some credit that can be used to buy some supplies from us. Though some jobs will include necessary equipment for free and such.” Bleck informs you. “But since I’m such a great senior I’ll send you some Pokeballs and a Potion on the house, if you do a job for me.”

“I’m listening.”

“You see on the edge of town nearby one of our fake rare candy gigs on the edge of town we got a small infestation of Caterpie. Not really a problem outside of their numbers and String-Shot, but I honestly hate getting that gunk in my hair. If you go drive em off, I’ll be happy to have one of our couriers dead drop the supplies on the way.”

Honestly, I'm kind of hoping to go with your average Team Rocket-esque team.

Mean or thuggish-looking Pokemon like Zubat, Houndour, Pinsir, Electabuzz, Hypno those kinds of mons, you know?

I love Caterpie but I think I'm gonna hold out for something else.
>>
>>2826374
Venamoth or beedrill?
I want beedrill
>>
>>2826374
That’s what I was thinking as well. A butterfly really doesn’t suit a Team Rocket member, even if it’s not a bad Pokémon.
>>
>>2826380
Between the two of them, I'd probably go with Venomoth. I love all the Powder moves it gets, plus a few Psychic-type attacks, and I'd imagine the former could be rather helpful if we're trying to do something like rob a place.
>>
>>2826380
If we’re talking bug types, I’d probably want a Scizor personally.
>>
But if we're just talking Bug-types in general, I'd probably advocate for a Pinsir or Scyther.

Maybe Forretress if we wanted a defensive wall that could also double as an explosive. Have to imagine having one throw out Spikes would also be a good get-away manuever.

“Sure I’ll get on it, got any advice for my first mission? I only got a Zubat on me.”

“I don’t think they are particularly high level, most you got to worry about is a mass amount of String-Shot that will be sent your way. Even one of those damn things has enough of that web to tie up several people.” He thinks for a moment. “Stuff’s flammable too. I’ll throw in a lighter with that supply drop, just find a stick or something and swirl up some of the gunk on it and wallah, you got a torch to spook the damn things.”

“Thanks for the advice just give me the locations and I’ll be on my way.”

“Gotcha it’s the warehouse on the end of town by the forest…”

You stand before the abandoned warehouse on the other side of town. The moon seems to be sinking, but you got more than enough time to do this. You can feel your restless partner on your head, looks like Zhu is ready for a fight like you are.

Thankfully you are prepared. Your pockets lined with the recently obtained pokeballs and lighter, though your potion bottle bulged out of your pockets. You should probably find some kind of bag soon.

+3 Pokeballs
+1 Potion
+1 Lighter (Full)

This is definitely the place, you can see the webbing lining the entrance and lining the walls and floors inside from the dull light of the moon. Grabbing a nearby tire iron in one hand, and flipping open the lighter in the other. You delve into the darkness of the warehouse. The small light of your lighter and your partner being your only companions.

Gonna second this. Normally I'd be all for fighting as many mons as possible to make Zhu stronger but him/her being rendered motionless via String Shot is a situation we probably don't want to be in.

“Zhu, take the ceiling.” You whisper to your compatriot.

Your only confirmation being Zhu following the command hiding within the shadows among the ceiling, with that squared away you begin to bang the mettle rod against the walls and floors making as much noise as possible. Hopefully scare away the more faint of heart Caterpie. You hear movement in the shadows and you think you see a few tiny things moving to escape between the cracks of a few boarded up windows.

Quickly sticking the rod into mess of string-shot gunk you swirl it around making a decently sized wad at the end. Using your lighter you set the wad alight and with your makeshift torch reveal the remaining infestation.

About 3 of them remain in the open area of the warehouse, a fourth stuck in the hole the others escaped through, and you notice a few metapod hanging from the ceiling. At least they shouldn’t be an issue.

Have Zhu latch on to whatever Caterpie looks biggest or in charge, and use Absorb. Make sure we say it quietly as well, his hearing’s probably good enough to hear us.
>>
>>2826452
How big is the effect of Zhu's Supersonic? Like, can we only hit one target at a time with it or could Zhu potentially cause a major ruckus by aiming it at every Bug-type in the room?

Caterpie, and Bug-types in general, resist Grass-type moves so Absorb might not be the greatest asset.
>>
>>2826452
>Try and circle around the Caterpie to drive them out the front

i have the feelling that these metapods might sundelly evolve on our ass.

Gonna go with anime logic and say you can try and train it to hit more than one thing, though as of now you can only hit one target.
>>
>>2826469
Probably something to focus on when we have a little downtime with Zhu then. A Supersonic that can cause a whole room to panic sounds pretty useful.

>>2826459
I'll be seconding this. Absorb isn't the greatest option in this particular situation but we don't have a lot of options in the first place outside of it and Supersonic.

Might also mean the Caterpie panics from suddenly having Zhu's teeth at its throat and a potential body-blocking of any String Shot business.

You begin to wave your torch around trying to make yourself as big as possible to the 3 remaining Caterpie. It worked and you were now the focus of all of them. Unfortunately that meant you had to dodge a few shots fired your way.

“Zhu!”

Your bat didn’t respond, but silently swooped down grabbing one of the back Caterpie and dragging it off into the darkness.

Well that was one taken care of. The two other Caterpies didn’t seem to notice their missing friend as they continued firing shots at you. Most likely thinking that it was just some noise you were making to spook them. Thankfully, the barrage was made easier to dodge with a third of the firing squad gone.

It wasn’t that hard to dodge the shots, you just had to imagine it was you jumping over garbage cans and slipping between people while be chased… except standing still.

It was easy is what your trying to get across.

You were so into it that you almost missed Zhu swooping in for a second time to carry away another Caterpie. The last one remaining finally noticed it was missing its number advantage and you started to panic even more. It began wildly spewing its shots everywhere randomly trying to hit the predator taking out its companions, leaving it wide open.

You attempt to keep its attention as but are mindful of your torch as to not set the building ablaze. While you were unable to keep the attention of the Caterpie on yourself Zhu had flown up to the rafters and once it saw and opening swooped down once more. slaming into the worm and momentarily stunning it as it flinched away from the attack. It quickly followed up by attaching itself to the defenseless worm and sucking away its energy.

Soon the flailing worm was left unconscious on the ground, all that remained being the Metapods and the still trapped Caterpie in the window.

“Zhu, feel free to eat up, I’m gonna call Bark and tell him the jobs done.”

Zhu happily accepts the proposition and quickly lands on the first Metapod to start sucking its energy. You simply turn away and call up your superior.

“He Bart, I finished the job. Just need a cleanup crew over hear to get these unconscious bugs out.” You say into your walkie talkie.

You hear what sounds like some kind of despairing sound from the end, something about ‘even my juniors’ or other. He sounds like he is a bit deader inside when you hear his voice again. “It’s Butch, but yeah I’m sending in a cleanup crew twerp, I’ll put in the word that you got the job down.”

“Thanks.” You curtly respond before shutting off the device.

Zhu lands back in its place right on your head. “You enjoy your meal?”

You get a soft screech as confirmation, though you still hear a rumbling, your own stomach rumbling to be precise. It was probably time to go find some food. Giving your little friend a quick pat you continue on your way.

I'm in full agreement here but we can't really be picky right now so how about a compromise on a policy for future pokemon catching. Catch the low level shit we can catch and use for now, caterpie, rattata, etc, to build up a decent enough team until we can find better pokemon to replace them with like>>2826380 for example. Sell off the ones we don't need anymore to the team rocket dead drops. We'llprobably get extra for giving them trained, stronger than average pokemon. This way we have an incentive to still catch the early pokemon but not keep them when we can get better, plus it fits better as a criminal MC. My only thing is we keep zhu, he's our first partner and even without the emotional side of it Crobats are a pretty good choice and fits our image. What do you guys think?
>>
>>2826795
I like the idea in theory, but let's be realistic. We say we'll sell them or get rid of them when something better comes along for now, but after enough sessions with them, they're going to start growing on some people, and when it comes time to replace them the pragmatic anons are probably going to lose the vote to the anons that let themselves get attached to the "Disposable" Pokemon.
>>
>>2826815
I get the hesitation but we're nit gonna be capable of catching the ones we want now and can't just rely on Zhu until then. I think we'll have enough self control if plan to sell them from the start and not get attached beyond training and fighting. At most maybe a rattata for the raticate later but even that's a big maybe. We just really need a team of at least two or three to start planning serious heists and beating down trainers for money. I wonder if we'll ever get to a point where our team is enough to beat down the police force as hard as Red did Team Rocket. Anyway, you've just gotta work with what you can get.
>>
Just finished reading, and I have one thing to say
>people don't want a Pokémon that learns both Sleep Powder and Stun Spore with Compoundeyes
We can put victims to sleep or paralyze them while we steal from them. The utility of those two moves is enough reason for a criminal to get a Butterfree. It worked really well in Gale of Darkness, with the Gloom, against the player.
>>
>>2826842
I don't think at least some of the Pokemon we want are exceptionally rare though. I mean Gastly are just supposed to hang around abandoned buildings, so if we wander through enough of them we've probably got a good chance of finding one. Would probably need to put in some work to get our hands on a Scyther or Drowzee (Though I can't see how Drowzee'd live in the Savannah like they're supposed to, if they survive on people's dreams), but who knows, we could maybe just ask Butch if we can exchange for them with a sufficiently rare Pokemon we manage to acquire. We could also just go out into the wilderness and try and acquire them, but we'd probably need more supplies before we tried that. I don't know if Houndour can be found in this region, since they're Gen. II and not Gen. I, but if they can then we'd probably have a pretty good chance of finding one in a city. I'm not saying that we should only settle for the rarest Pokemon, but putting in a little extra effort to get some of the Pokemon we actually want early on would probably be worth it in the long run. Plus I mean the less disposable Pokemon we add to the team the more exp is going to go to the Pokemon we intend to keep for good.
>>
>>2826982
But it's a butterfly anon, it just doesn't fit for a criminal, even if it'd be effective. Besides, I'm sure we can find some other Pokemon with Sleep Spore to add to the team, or some other method of putting targets to sleep, like Hypnosis.
>>
>>2826982
Meh, it's a butterfly. If we're getting bug types I'd rather catch a scyther or a weedill for the beedrill later.
>>2826987
Look all I'm saying is let's just supplement our team for now and catch better shit later. We're not gonna be traveling to far out of the city for now and I'd rather not try our luck looking for pokemon with just a zubat and virtually no knowledge on pokemon whatsoever.
>>
>>2827021
We don't HAVE to look like a criminal.

>>
>>2827056

Only other options that would be in the area would be the Oddish and Bellsprout lines. And good luck getting a Leaf Stone to evolve them. And Butterfree can have String Shot still too. Thing has the most utility of anything we could get right now. Plus a Butterfree in a Pokéball, is a lot less obvious than a Zubat that sits on our head.

What sounds more believable?
>I was robbed by some thug and his Zubat that was resting on his hat

>I was robbed by some thug and his Butterfree
People might not even report being robbed by the Butterfree bandit, because it would be so embarrassing.

-Gengar

I'm a little torn on the last one, but probably Gyarados or Golduck, for a water type.
>>
>>2827180
For a poison type he really doesn't know very many poison type moves, does he? I just think like he's pure ghost type most of the time.
>>
>>2827105
Again, we don't need to know Sleep Spore to put someone to sleep. Hypnosis could work just as well, on a Drowzee or Hypno. Besides, what are our fellow Team Rocket members going to think if we use a bloody Butterfree? That's just embarrassing.
>>
Just a reminder for people making teams, that more than gen 1 pokemon will be available. It just needs to have a reason to be there. With the magnet train being in Saffron City, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume some trainers going from Johto to Kanto bring their pokemon, and the strays and runaways from that could easily make an invasive species especially since it only takes the same body type to breed Pokemon. If you look enough you might find some Gen II Pokemon, sure it won't be a Totodile or something, but things like Hoothoots, Spinaraks, Houndour, Murkrow, etc. if it is feasible they'd be there. Go to a port city and you may find some Alolan forms or Pokemon from Hoenn, etc. Hell once you get a promotion you will be allowed to operate in other regions. Do keep in mind it will be much harder to get supplies and send loot from out of the Kanto/Johto region, though according to the anime Alola has some minor Rocket Presence.

Mew 2 for when we're ready
>>
>>2827105
We could just hide zubat in the ball when we need too. Also why would the type of pokemon sitting on his head make it less or more believable?
>>
>>2827099
Bellsprout and Vilebloom are both fantastic plant types with a lot of status moves that are Gen 1 to boot. So we have decent plant type options to choose from.

Starmie or a Gyarados would be best bet for a good water type. If we go fishing in the ocean we can probably find some other water types from the other Gens to choose from.

A Nidoking or Queen are very strong and excellent choices.

I would personally go for a Alakazam over a Drowzee.

We are probably going to be stuck with a Gengar for a ghost type but they're pretty good and easy to get.

Fire types and Ice are gonna be very slim pickings sadly.

>>2827105
Getting robbed by Bug Type trainers in general would be embarassing as hell. Seeing as how fucking terrible they were for so long. So yeah actually using a bug type to rob people is an excellent idea.

Nobody would ever wanna admit they got their asses kicked and robbed by a Bug type trainer.

I mean even gangs and Team grunts have the decency to avoid Bug Types like the plague.

>>2827190
It learns a couple poison type moves by level up but most poison moves are by TM luckily STAB is pretty common bonus.

>>2827196

>>
>>2827323
When are we going to eat Pokemon for food?
>>
>>2827320
Yeah, but...a Butterfree! We'd be the laughingstock of the Team! Yeah sure, it'd probably be somewhat useful for the reasons you guys stated, but I'd still rather take a Scizor as our chosen bug type over a butterfly. Plus while it's not super difficult in the games, evolving a Metapod up to a Butterfree would be a pain in the ass. Would we just have to sit around and wait for it to evolve? Seems like too much hassle. As far as Hypno vs. Alakazam, I'd mostly take Hypno in this case because 1. It just seems more appropriate for a Team Rocket member, and 2. Because it'd probably be way easier to get our hands on a Drowzee then an Abra. If we'd need a bruiser I'd maybe take a Rhyperior over a Nidoking, if only because at that point we'd have three Poison types on our team, and I'd prefer to keep type overlap minimal. Plus Rhyperior's cool. But yeah, tough to find appropriate fire and ice types. Maybe try and capture a Houndour? QMM implied that there's a fairly good chance they're an invasive species in urban areas, and we could use a fire/dark type.

>>2827325
Regular animals do exist in the Pokemon universe.
>>
>>2827332
But which one will taste better? High level pokemon or a regular animal?
>>
>>2827287
A bit surprised no one has mentioned Arcanine as a fire type. Close by, one of the best Pokémon, and prove that we are better than James. What’s not to love. We could grab a Clefable as well. Snorlax and various Porygon types are options as well in Kanto.
>>
>>2827347
"Strong" Pokemon, like irl, meat would be too stuff and gamey due to battling. The only Pokemon that got eaten were Magickarp and Slowpoke even then it was just Slowpoke's tail which regrew fast.

>>
>>2827382
Don’t forget Moo-Moo milk.
>>
>>2827382
Well, there's probably a few fattier breeds of Pokemon that might not be too tough due to battling, like Snorlax or Miltank.
>>
>>2827385
Maybe one of these days we should go to a daily farm and just steal all the moo moo milk we can carry.
Since a daily farm is not known to have high end security
>>
>>2827389
*Dairy
>>
>>2827389
Would probably want to work together with a couple of other Team Rocket members, for a robbery like that. Could likely exponentially increase the amount of milk we'd be able to snatch.

We aren’t Jessie, James, and/or Meowth. And if we are being effective in our work who’s going to question the methods?

Houndour is located on Route 7 at night, in GSC. Right outside of Saffron. I think that'd be a really good addition to the team.
>>
>>2827506
You know what’s really funny? Meowth (and Persian) are the best counterfeiters in the Pokemon world (except maybe Smeargle). Happy Hour money amulet boosted Payday is the way to go
>>
>>2827378
That would require a fire stone though. Houndour if a dual type and doesn't need a stone to evolve.
>>
>>2827434
I would pic either a poliwag or a staryu for the slot of water type pokemon.
>>
>>2827638
Just need to figure that out IC.
>>
>>2827776
Would prefer Gyarados personally, if only so we’d have an option if we needed to go loud, but I could see Poliwrath and Starmie having their uses as well. Honestly, I’ve been thinking on it, and I don’t really see any reason why we should keep within the 6 Pokémon limit like usual. I mean we’re a criminal, I don’t see why we shouldn’t just ignore that limit and take as many as we want (We probably shouldn’t take more then 8 or 9, so that exp distribution isn’t too bad, but you get the idea).

is there a law on haw many pokemon you can have?
>>
>>2827799
Also, I think pokeballs have something in them that forces extra Pokemon to storage.
>>
>>2827799
Well I mean I’d assume so. Why else would people only use 6 Pokémon at a time?

>>2827803
Hm, that’d be annoying. Hopefully it’s not the case, at least with Team Rocket balls or whatever, but you’re probably right.
>>
>>2827803
Maybe only for registered trainers? So you wont have a guy carrying a hundred lvl2 Ratatas to throw at the problem until the opponent keels over from sheer boredom.
>>
>>2827799
We could have as many as we want, but we likely wouldn't be able to carry more than six.

>>2827778
ICly we ought to hit the library to determine what we can potentially catch, anyways. Like Mike was saying, can't get by with just a Zubat.
>>
>>2827917
We could maybe contact Birch? He can probably at least give us some general locations for the Pokémon we want.
>>
>>2827799
Not about how many you can have, just how many you can use in battle
>>
>>2827973
Or at least point us toward someone that knows what pokemon can be find in the wild near Saffron
>>
>>2827973
Contacting a professor seems sort of risky, given our profession. And, beyond that, I'm sure they're plenty busy with their research and don't have time for every upstart to ask them questions about what can be found in the area. I mean, shit, I'm assuming you mean Oak or Elm, but even then, there's no guarantee they know what's around. You don't call Stephen Hawking to locate stars when the local community college has an astronomy professor. The library or some more knowledgeable members of Rocket/prominent figures in the city would suffice.
>>
>>2827973
pretty much this>>2828081
plus we could probably find that information at the library anyway so it just give even more incentive to go there. If not that, I'm sure we can just get info from team rocket.

This quest seems interesting. I like the inclusion of Biff.
>>
Half of me wants to generally be kind to Butch and remember his name while the other half just loves the constant running gag of absolutely NO ONE remembering his name.
>>
>>2828184
Can't we be nice with Bench but genuinely having his name slip from our memory to keep the gag running?
I mean, at this point he should be kinda used to it.
>>
>>2828184
I mean we can slowly get closer of getting his name right. Burch seems like a cool guy.
>>
>>2828198
I agree we should do that for old Bach

Recommendations for our next session:

>git stronk
We need more Pokémon. As gengar is on most of the dream teams I see, I would suggest getting a Ghastly by raiding an abandoned temple for the loot

>git reddy
Robbing a small shop for supplies and perhaps a little money is essential at this point. A backpack, a belt for storing poke balls and a set of non suspicious clothes are something both easy and necessary.

>git gud
We are new to this Pokémon training thing. After we get nice clothes, let's use them to enquire about Pokémon. Even grabbing leaflets from the local poke center should aid us greatly.
>>
>>2828257
I agree with getting a Gastly, though I'm pretty sure that we could just go through any old buildings to find one, if necessary. Maybe grab a Houndour while we've got the time as well, those two seem to be the easiest to acquire that most people seem to agree would be good additions to the team. Robbing a shop's probably a good idea as well, though we should probably be as discrete as possible. Kind of hard to stick up a store when everyone and their mother has Pokemon. And yeah, we need some knowledge and training. Shame Team Rocket doesn't have a seminar or something, it's no wonder their grunts fold over like wet cardboard in a fight.
>>
>>2828175
Butt is a pretty nice guy yeah, even with the dyke hairdo
>>
>>2828257
Look if we want to get a ghastly that's cool and I agree it'd make a good addition but I don't think we have a good chance with just a low level zubat with a bad moveset against ghastly. We really should read up on pokemon so that MC and train up zubat a bit by grinding on rattatas, bug types, and other low level pokemons around the city and its limits since if we're going straight for the pokemon we want over the early stuff to pad out the team then that means we'll need zubat strong enough to handle tough fights without a teammate. I'd be cool with starting off hunting and slaying bug types in the forests near us and catching a weedill or, if we're lucky, potentially finding a scyther and catching one of those since it would be a bit easier on zubat and there would be a lot of fighting and training opportunity with weak caterpies and metapods as fodder. Essentially we'd be pulling the red/green charmander strategy, grinding our pokemon till it evolves/high enough level/ new fight changing move that'll make the type advantages less of an issue.
>>
>>2828327
You've got a point, we ought to train Zubat up for a while before going after a Ghastly, but once it learns Bite we'd be pretty much ready.
>>
>>2828485
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't bite dark and does nothing against ghosts right?
>>
>>2828833
Opposite. Dark is super effective against Ghost.
>>
>>2828485
Could we try and befriend one, see if we can get it to join voluntarily? Will probably make it easier to control it in the long run, and I imagine the opportunity to make lots of mischief with us would be fairly enticing.
>>
>>2828853
>befriending a ghost
Don't get attached anon, that's the rocket rule. Zhu gets a pass because he's our first and shown he's useful. If it wants acknowledgement it needs to prove its usefullness.

>Rocket Rule

But I want to become the apprentice to James. The best pokemon master.
>>
Usually not a fan of having more than one type of Pokemon on a team, like having two Poison-types in Zhu and a hypothetical Ghastly, but the latter is really the only Ghost-type option I'd be interested in.

Well, that's not saying much considering Gen 1 and 2 leave only the Ghastly line and Misdreavus as options.

Gengar is pretty fucking cool anyways, if a bit overused in general.

If Gen 2 Pokemon are being included though, I'd love to grab a Houndour.
>>
>>2828896
Personally I've always loved Haunter the best, Gengar just looks silly to me. Though the Ghost Sword pokemon is pretty dang awesome, if other generations ever become an option.
>>
>>2828894
James was always too pure for Rocket. He was only there to spite his family
>>
>>2828896
They are, or at least some. More urban adapted Pokemon are implied to have hopped regions as invasive species, so we can find Houndours, Murkrows and the like relatively close by where we live.

>>2828861
Well yeah, we won't get too attached until it's proved it's usefulness, but it'll probably still make it somewhat more cooperative if we befriend it, and it allows us to capture it. More likely to be loyal to us then if we beat it into submission, at least. We can always force it to join up with us, if it doesn't come along willingly.
>>
>>2828901
The fun thing about Haunter (and Kadabra) is that they're perfectly serviceable stat-wise despite being 2nd stage mons.

All evolving really seems to do for them is give a +15 bonus to all of their stats.

Admittedly, part of me wants to have more than just Gen 1 mons accessible to us but the other part is more in favor of keeping with the original 151 line-up.
>>
>>2828906
I'm fine with sticking with gen 1 to 2 at most for now. Maybe if we get higher in rep we can get sent to other regions to expand our influence.
>>2828905
No, we beat it, caprure it, and have it submit to our training. We'll build loyalty into it the hard way. Friendship is for the weak and the naive. "Friends" will stab you in the back, eventually. Minions know to follow the boss, as long as he's toigh enough to hold onto that control.
>>2828903
If we get to a point where we're running a crew of rocket members, we could enp up joining with james and jessie and leading them into actual competency.
>>
>>2828983
Ehhh, loyalty through force is all well and good when you’re doing well, but the minute we end up facing down somebody stronger then we are, we can count on them betraying us at the drop of a hat to save their own hides. If we make at least some friendly overtures initially, and then show our dominance later on, we can probably expect more loyalty in the long term, even against impossible odds.
>>
>>2829021
No, train it to loyal. Seriously, we're basically a terrorist now, we're a street rat that grew up hating authority and doing what needed to be done to survive. This is probably one of the very few pokemon quests where it's appropriate to be the cold type of trainer. Play off it, try something different for once, honestly anon.
>>
>>2829038
I'm not saying we actually have to be friends with it though. We just have to ACT like we are. We can force it to join us if we have to, but "Befriending" it until it's actually in the ball will just be much less effort, and once we have it we can instill some actual discipline, by hook or by crook. I mean, I think at least a bit of feigned friendliness might make it more loyal in the long run, but I don't think we should stick our neck out for it, unless the benefits outweigh the risks.
>>
>>2828894
You didn’t mention his Growlithe. I am disappointed
