Toad told you to get some rest, but it’s hard to sit still with all that’s happened. You’ve spent the last half hour cleaning out your terrarium of half-eaten jejune bugs (they cannibalized each other in a frenzy while you were gone, not even the queen was spared). It’s spiritless work, just something to keep your hands busy while you wait for Toad to return with your Elf and your troll hearts.

What you need is a plan. A master plan that will allow you to outmaneuver both Roche and Antipater and Fontain and whoever else stands in your way and come out ahead in the end--morally and financially. Designing alchemical supertoxins to commit terrible atrocities is one thing, but by god you’re not going to be poor again if you can help it.

You step into the veranda to air out the terrarium. Below, on the road, a carriage pulls into the front of the building. You think it’s your Elf at first and nearly the drop the tank on your foot in relief--but it’s a streak of red, not gold that flashes from the car. Nina.

The cabby watches her with a yawn as she struggles to get her luggage out from the back. She gets stuck trying to pull out a large, draped object and slips on the soft dirt. She falls flat on her backside, staining the bottom of her dress with fresh mud..

You lean over the railing and yell “Have a nice trip?” and laugh like a child. Nina looks up at you still sitting in the mud. She looks like she wants to eat you alive.

“Get down here and help me you idiot!” She screams, hitting the mud with her fists, which only splatters them more on her clothes.

“Alright, alright.” You put on your boots and head down. As you help Nina unload the draped object you note that she feels a little different from before. Less scattered, more in control, like a freshly honed blade. You move the object to the middle of her living room among her other weaving tools and supplies.

“What is this thing anyway?” You try and peek under the draping but she slaps your hands.

“It’s a loom.”

“Expanding the business?”

“Something like that.” She says, quietly. “You want anything to drink?”

“Just water.” Then remembering Antipater’s face and the fact that your Elf still hasn’t returned, you add, “Actually, I could use something stronger.”

She nods and returns with two fluted glasses, then opens one of her suitcases to pull out a bottle of wine. “Help yourself. I need to change.”

“So I take it the trip went well?” You yell out. “How’s your mother?”

She returns wearing her usual working garb, plain white dress with the tailor’s apron; her hair still has flecks of mud and dirt near the roots. She takes one of the glasses and sips at it, looking through the window at the darkened street and the lamplighter moving from streetlight to streetlight like a slinking cat. Then she looks at you as if you’re not really there. You put the glass the down.

“Is she...alright?” She shakes her head and takes another sip. You look at the draped over loom and then back to her and connected the dots. “Oh.” You’re not sure what to do, memories of your own loss come flooding in and don’t help much. “Are you alright?”

“I am.” She says. There’s a long silence. Finally she clears her throat and you both start speaking at the same time and then both apologize to let the other finish until the awkwardness is mercifully interrupted by another knock at the front door and a familiar voice.

“Sebastian. Are you in?”

Still not your Elf. Even worse, it’s the last person you want to see right now, Lawson.

“I should probably get that.” You say. But part of you wants to stay here and--well you’re not really sure what, maybe just keep Nina company for a while. If only because you know the narrowing of walls and spaces that follow such tragedies, the feeling of abandon and hopelessness and the facades maintained to hide these things so that at least pity can be avoided.

“Alright.” Says Nina. “I should probably wash up anyway.”

You both get up, unsure of how to proceed. The knock comes again and jolts you out of paralysis. “Hey, look, if--if you need to talk…” You sigh, why is it so hard? Why are these things never as clean and straightforward as alchemy, the solutions known, the methods precalculated? “Why don’t you have dinner with us tonight?” You say.

Her eyes widen a little and she smiles, but it is not the smug satisfaction which you find you almost miss. “Sure.” She says. “You’re not doing the cooking though are you?”

“I’ll see you at six.” You say, flatly, and then head for the main door.

Lawson is waiting outside wearing a fancy three-piece suit, completely out-of-place in this part of the town. You make sure you have your pistol with you before you open the door. It still has enough juice for one more shot, though at some point you should probably work on a refill and an upgrade.

“Lawson. What do you want?”

“Aren’t you going to let me in?”

You think for a good minute. “No.” You finally say.

He touches his eyes and sniffs in that piggish way. “I’m trying to be professional here Sebastian, you know? Put the past behind us, put what you did to me, under the bridge. All that”

“What I did to you? Are you serious?”

He holds up a small briefcase. “You wanted the methods for making the (he leans in and whispers) toxin, didn’t you? I just want to exchange information and then we’ll be out of each other’s way.”

“Exchange information? What information?”

“Don’t play coy, Sebastian. You know what information. You may (he lowers his voice again and even looks around him before continuing) have my father fooled, but I need more concrete evidence. A cure? You actually expect me to believe you found a permanent cure?”

“You don’t have to believe anything.” You say, folding your arms. “But yes, I did.”

“How?” He hisses, sniffing involuntarily.

Another carriage pulls into the building. It’s your Elf.

“Look I’m a little busy right now. I don’t need whatever information you think you can offer and I’m definitely not going to give you mine.”

“This isn’t a game Sebastian.”

“And I’m not playing around. I told your father I’d work independently, and he agreed to those terms. Maybe I should have another chat with him about how those terms are being violated right now. He doesn’t seem like the type of man who likes breach of contracts.”

You can actually hear Lawson grind his molars. The sun glints off his bald head like the back of a glass egg and he sniffs twice in succession before stepping back from the door. “Just don’t make a mistake Seabass. I say that for your sake.”

“Yeah, sure.” For a second there he actually sounded sincere and that scares you more than any threat. He helps your Elf unload the equipment (by forcing the cabby to do it). Thankfully everything’s been packaged into crates as you instructed, so he sees none of it. Then he hires the carriage for himself. Toad isn’t with your Elf, but you open the door and help her lug everything upstairs.

Your Elf is more reticent than usual and like Nina, she also seems to have become more centered--and that only within the space of a few hours.

The sun is nearly fused with the horizon now, throwing heated colors into the clouds. You tell your Elf that Nina will be joining the two of you for dinner and she gets started immediately in the kitchen. Unfortunately, most of the food in the freezer has spoiled but Toad had the foresight to load your Elf with groceries before he sent her off. Good old Toad, always looking out for you. You hope he’s alright.

You decide to help your Elf with the cooking. She protests at first, urging you to rest, but some vague guilt compels you to be near her. You want to tell her everything but you’re not sure how you can break the news. How do you tell someone that you’re working for the very man that tortured her, that hurt her in the worst ways imaginable for no other reason than personal pleasure?

You wait for an opportune time, the perfect moment--preferably when she’s not holding anything sharp or boiling. You’ll explain that it's all out of necessity. That really, you’d be working against him, trying to supplant his efforts at every stage. But you wonder if that’s really true, for what do you really know about the lizards? Except for that one lizard spawn that you saved, you’ve had no other contact with them.

What Antipater wants, is in a way, sensible or at least beneficial for the human race. More slaves means less labor for man, more comfort, less conflict. More lizard slaves might mean less elf ones. And if the slaves were of absolute allegiance, as this toxin would doubtless ensure, then there isn’t even a risk of rebellion. Of course, there’s the matter of the toxin spreading across species. And beyond that something in the mind, perhaps in the soul, rejects the very concept of flesh ownership. These lizards are not pets or beasts of burden, they are thinking creatures capable of culture and civilization. They love and hate and fear death and understand the concept of freedom.

And yet. Look at your Elf. She wears the silk ribbon that you brought in hair and it seems now a mark of possession. A collar or a serial number indicating her status as property--and nothing within you rebels at this. Because she is sick in mind? Because she would be unable to care for herself without your assistance? These are compelling reasons, but you can feel darker causes lurking beneath. Attachment beyond simple commerce, for the silk ribbon and the shoes and the clothes were also gifts. If she were now merely property, then telling her your reasons would prove no consequence--why should you care? But you do care, and intensely, what she would think. Whether, if you freed her, then she would leave. Whether she would try to hurt you and whether you would stop her.

“Master you’re cutting the carrots unevenly.” She says.

“What? Oh. Sorry.” You look down at the misshapen blocks.

“Shall I?” She reaches for the knife but you grab her wrist.

“No, it’s fine. I’ll fix it.”

“Master should really rest. Master looks tired.” She chews her own lip, as though she had secrets too she dare not speak.

“I think we should to talk.” You say.

“Oh. A-about what?”

“About...well not right now. After we eat. But it’s important.”

“OK.” She says.

Nina arrives shortly thereafter, clean, dressed in better clothes and far too early. She moves immediately to your slave’s side and shoos you away from the kitchen. Something about being embarrassed to cook in front of you. You decide to let it slide just for today and leave the two of them alone.

You head for your desk instead of the pile of dusty blankets on the floor. You’ve actually gotten used to sleeping on a feather bed and the thought of lying down on the hard wooden paneling no longer has that minimalistic charm. Especially now that you have some sovereigns in the bank.

One of the crates contains all the books you brought with you and now seems a good time to review your notes and perhaps do some more reading. You’ve gleaned all you can from the book on the toxins and it’s only useful as a reference now.

>Toxins and Tonics (Complete) +1 when working with toxins or their antidotes

What remains to be read is the Elven dictionary (which you still haven’t even opened), the book on restoratives and the book on crystallogenesis. This might also be a good time to organize the notes on the manufacture of the toxin cure. Or perhaps the time would be better spent on designing some new experiments, just general brainstorming for new ideas.

Seeing as how Lawson was so keen on procuring the method of the cure manufacture, it seems prudent to organize and collect all the details of it into one place for yourself. However, the matter of the elf blood gives you pause. It seems unwise to write something like that down--at least without any kind of encryption.

Granted you do maintain your notebook in a cipher but that’s more out of personal fun than actual security. It’s a simple substitution cipher that a determined child could crack, you’ll need something a little more robust to keep the likes of Antipater or Lawson at bay. Your options are immediately limited, but with the money in your bank (whose mere remembrance gives you a warm fuzzy feeling down to your toes) you can always buy what you need from Gunter.

For now however, you could either try writing in a more complex cipher and maybe combine that with further obfuscation by using a mnemonic system. Alternatively you still have some of the cipherous ink left. A few of the pigments are clear and transparent and can be used (after some modification, heating and mixing with other pigments) as secure ink. Completely invisible unless treated with the right set of pigments and since the rest of your journal already has writing in it, no one will suspect it.

>Make the secure ink from the left over cipherous ink kit
>Just use a more complex cipher for now
>Just write it in your usual cipher; no one’s going to steal your notebook

Interesting thought to bring up but what if after we talk to Leia about the important thing that just happened and everything calms down. Would it be possible to ask her for help in learning her language? Not only would it give us extra sweet sweet bonding time but also help us learn a language that can allow us to communicate hidden information that most people would not know.

>Make the secure ink from the left over cipherous ink kit
We should really have a notebook within a notebook, have some standard notes with a decent cipher then write over the notes with our invisible ink so when they crack the first cipher they never bother to read it again and check for the hidden ink.
>>
>>2815780
Oh! What if, we write down false information involving the cure on the first or second layer of security? That way they'll chomp onto it like bait.
>>
>>2815789
We could, if we really wanted to take a gamble, mention the elves blood, but in a section that mentions all the things we tried to cure the toxin with but failed in order to throw them off the trail further.
>>
>>2815796
Then we should throw together a big list of things to hide it in. That way it'll seem mundane.

>Make the secure ink from the left over cipherous ink kit
>>
>>2815764
>>2815769
>>2815772

The secure ink seems more trouble than its worth, it’s easier (and possibly more secure) to just layer several ciphers on top of each other. It’s going to make decryption a pain, but most of this will only be reference anyway.

You start by making a fresh set of ordinary notes on spare paper, collecting all the details of the Elf blood preparation and then the subsequent regenerative culturing and also your own thoughts on how the blood actually acts to neutralize the poison (admittedly, you’re still not fully convinced of the immunogen theory, or at least what it implies about the “animalcules” but it’s all you’ve got for now). As an additional measure you also add in some nonsense instructions which sound correct but which will invariably destroy the experiment (always prefaced with a password, so you know to ignore them).

Once that’s finished, you convert the notes using a mnemonic system into that story Leia likes so much, about the nobleman and his maid. Keywords in the story are bolded and then the entire thing is encrypted using your simple substitution cipher with the password “Leia” for the transformation. Finally, the bolded words are further encrypted using a much more complicated dictionary cipher (you finally put that Elven dictionary to use) resulting in a combination of gibberish and bolded Elven words that have no relevance to the topic at hand (and yet, in a way, absolutely does).

All this takes you the rest of the evening and by dinnertime you’re dotting your last i and burning the original notes in the wood stove.

As usual, the lack of chairs forces you to bring all the food outside to the backyard. It seems that Nina made more than the usual share of food this time around, as a few of the dishes lack your Elf’s subtle handiwork. The beef soup is too salty and the coleslaw is bland.

“How is it?” Asks Nina. She’s biting her thumb and looking from your Elf to you.

My inner paranoid and it sec guy is not pleased with out info sec. Taking such a blatantly personal password like Leia is bad. And we should be sure that the oven actually burned all the paper so that nothing can be recovered.
I am probably too paranoid and Watdo will not bite us in the ass for this.
Now that we are going to hire people to do our work we need to think about how we can compartmentalize the work so that only we have the whole picture in mind.

We really should have a talk with Lawson. Be clear up front that we cannot share information about the cure but we are willing to share the results of our analyses (which while time consuming were not hard enough to keep a dedicated alchemist from doing on their own) in exchange for more information on the disease (or better yet info on his father). I really want to get a closer glimpse at how he feels about being responsible for creating a disease that is spreading through the human population before we start moving against Antipater.
We only cured the disease by pumping a lizard full of an immune booster, which means we don't have a lot to work with if we want to do anything like create a vaccine or another, non-elf blood cure; Lawson's notes on the origins of the disease would be incredibly useful in this regard.
tl;dr we can speak to Lawson without revealing the cure and it would probably be helpful.

Also threadly reminder that redweed probably contains alchemical penicillin and would probably cure the disease if it's caused by a microorganism (I'm still not convinced it's literally fantasy HIV (i.e. a retrovirus) since Leia's immune cells were adept at targeting and fighting off the disease (but on the other hand: magic)).
>>
>>2815965
So far the setting does not have cell theory. Yet there is the change that Lawson, being the genius he is, began working on a cell theory and viruses yet he remained calling his creation a "toxin" instead of a "disease". I really want the research papers on the disease...
>>
>>2815965
Also phoenix ashes did work on venom(?) that threatened life of our first patient.
We know OOC phoenix ashes are out of redweed, and IC we know (?) there is a connection between them from where Gunter offered us a discount. So it's probably more than just antibiotic, or?

You swallow and clear your throat, staring at the mound of food. Nina’s still staring at you.

“It’s uh, it’s not bad.” You say, quietly.

““Miss Nina, this food is terrible.” Says your slave.

“Leia? What are you talking about?”

“Master please. The beef is too salty, the vegetables haven’t been spiced correctly, the coleslaw tastes like water and this fondue is too sweet.” She narrows her eyes like she were taking aim at a fly on the wall. “You added too little lemon juice didn’t you?” She says this in a way a disgruntled husband might ask his wife if she was a whore.

Nina looks down at her hands. “I thought it’d make it too sour.” She mumbles.

“That’s because you’re an idiot.” She says. Appalled silence follows. You’re not sure where you are for a second.

“I understand master.” Master? “I will try better next time.” Says Nina, nodding reverently.

“See that you do.” Says Leia, closing her eyes and casually wiping her mouth with the end of the tablecloth. “This kind of meal isn’t fit for dogs, let alone my master.”

You watch this entire procession wondering if you’ve stepped into an alternate reality. Then like a rock through a mirror, the illusion shatters.

“Was that good Miss Nina? Was it too much?” Leia nervously wrings her hands and all is right again with the world.

Nina makes an OK with her hands, but she’s still staring at the food. “Well the dog comment was a little much I think.” She mutters. “Not like Seabass is royalty or anything.”

“Oh I’m sorry! I didn’t mean it of course.” Says Leia. “I just thought--you said to be more assertive--oh no, I’m so sorry Miss Nina.”

“What is going on right now?” You say.

“No you’re right.” Says Nina, as though you didn’t exist. “I did tell you to be more aggressive--but I didn’t think you’d be so...anyway, you’re right. You’re right. You’re right” She shrugs her shoulders. “I’ll do better next time.”

Leia nods, visibly relieved. “But you really did put too much salt in beef stew.” She says, coldly.

“You said one handful!”

“What?” Says Leia.

“I mean--you said one handful, master.”

“Yes I did.” The she strips back her sleeve and lays her hand flat on the table, palm up. Nina, reluctantly, puts her own on top. While both hands have marks of abuse (your slave’s are far worse), Nina’s is about 50% bigger than your Elf’s.

“Oh.” Says Nina. “Right.” She nods. “I’m sorry master, I’ll get it right next time. I promise.”

“Can someone please explain to me what’s going on here? Am I--am I dead? Is this hell?”

“Oh shut up Sebastian. And finish your stew.” Says Nina.

Leia leans into your ear. “Master you can eat the vegetable soup, I made that one.” She whispers, her breath tickles your flesh.

“I heard that.” Says Nina.

And so it goes for the rest of the evening. You eventually find out that Leia has taken Nina under wing to formally teach her the culinary arts. The master-student thing was in fact Nina’s idea, a role that your slave was initially reluctant to accept but, as it now seems, has quickly grown into. After dinner Nina invites the two of you to wind down with some wine. Thus far she’s made no mention of her trip and you haven’t had the heart (or courage) to bring it up but she now looks like she has something she wants to say.

You decide to stay for a little bit, knowing full well that you’re only doing it to delay the inevitable, secretly hoping that maybe your Elf will fall asleep or that you’ll forget so that you don’t have to have the conversation you’re dreading.

Nina brings the wine while your Elf sets down the glasses, not the fluted stemmed ones from earlier but broader thicker cups. Nina pours generously, as though she were trying to empty the contents of the bottle. You sip at the spirits while your Elf sniffs anxiously at hers. Nina downs her full glass in a single motion, squeezing her eyes shut as the alcohol stains her brain.

You make inane conversation, avoiding topics of any real substance, talking at length about her sister and her husband and her plans for some upcoming ball. Nina pours herself another glass and drains that too. This time, when she puts the cup down, you pull it slightly out of reach. It’s already enough to slur her speech.

“Hey, Seabass, can I ask you something?” She says.

“You just did.”

She squints and laughs a little louder than is appropriate. “Funny. You’re funny Seabass.” She leans her head back on the couch, blowing on the red hair splayed over her face. “That’s why no one--” She yawns. “That’s why I like you.” She says.

You clear your throat. “Right. Well it’s getting late.” You already sent your Elf ahead to prepare the blankets, to make this escape (and partially in the hope that she’ll forget about you asking her to talk).

“Wait, wait. I wanted to ask you something. It’s serious.”

You sit back down. “What is it?”

“I think we should move in together.”

“What?”

She giggles. “No, no. It came out wrong. I think we should move together. To another place, a bigger one.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I’m talking about a bigger place. Sheesh pay attention Seabass. I saw some places near the market that were up for auction. You’d like them. Cuts down on the commute and everything. I figure I can rent out some rooms to adventurers or something. It’s basically free real estate. ”

“What about this place?”

“I’m selling it. It’s mine now so…” She trails off, looking toward the loom she has unpackaged. “I’m selling it.” She says. “And since you’re such a good ten--tennanant, damn how do you say that?” She giggles again.

“Tenant.”

“Yeah, that. You should come with. Well.” She scratches the freckles on her nose. “Well actually I also need some money for the down payment. You have some savings right? I’ll pay you back--you know I will right? You know I’m good for it.”

>No, if she wants a loan she can go to the bank
>No, but what if you bought the place with her? Half and half.
>Sure, Nina’s an industrious girl, she’ll definitely pay you back; but you’re not moving

Definitely not, can't have any paper trails Antipater or Roche can use, and we need the money for ingredients for the real cure and for if/when this entire deal we have goes up in flames and we need to run.

There's hasn't been formal black and white yet. However for now you've been promised the following things:

>Yearly stipend for purchasing regular supplies (~100 sovereigns)
>A second stipend for living expenses (~50 sovereigns/month)
>A separate on-request stipend for more expensive reagents/alchemical equipment (you just have to show justification)
>An alchemy license (details on this remain elusive, but Antipater made it sound like you won't even need to attend the Academy)
>Complete independence in your operation and team

In exchange you're expected to:

>Make regular reports to someone in his organization (not Lawson, by request)
>Work on whatever Antipater tells you to, at least as a main focus
>Show satisfactory progress in the work
>Not useless squander resources
>>
>>2816194
There is of course this and it is a very valid point.
I thought about pawning/selling a troll heart to Gunther for a while if we need more short term capital.
And of course we could make some of that paste for him and promise him the earnings, i.e. we give him the paste + earnings and we gives us credit in his shop in advance.
>>

That seems a lot of Seabass living standards.

>>2816184
I would like for Nina not to rent out any addional rooms, she can use the ground floor as a shop or so, but I don't really want strangers (i.e. spies) in our new house.

Would it be possible to make a longterm commitment with Seabass, e.g. every morning we spend 1-2 hours to reading/analysing a book? Except if there are extraordinary circumstances.

I'm in favour of lending her (if we can afford it) seeing as she's our friend and reliable.
I'm not too concerned about paper trails when Lawson, Franklin and people they are connected to are already well aware that we care for her. In that respect it's probably safer to stay close to her so we can warn her if shit's coming down, check on her, help her out.
We're not going to be able to do shit if we completely isolate ourselves, barring pulling a full on Stark with our antics.

It’s an intriguing proposition, but you have a better one.

“How about we just split it? I’ll cover half, you cover the other half.”

“So you’d do it? You’d move in--sorry move with me?”

“Why not? I’ve been thinking about getting a bigger place anyway, especially with this new job. But I do have some conditions.”

“OK!” Nina’s ecstatic. She nods her head clearly not hearing a single word.

“So, no other tenants, maybe Franklin if he wants to come with us and maybe Toad if I can convince him and if there’s enough room. But no one else.” You wouldn’t put it past Antipater or to put in spies to observe you. It might just be paranoid, but paranoia keeps you alive. “And it has to be your name on the deed. We can split the mortgage payments but only until you can pay me back. I assume you’re doing this because you finally want to expand your business?”

She nods, a dopey grin on her face.

“Good, good. We can use some of the space as a workshop for you and a lab for me. And we’ll have to make sure there’s a yard for Mrs. Cluckles and Pecky. Pecky especially doesn’t like enclosed spaces.”

“Ugh, who cares about your chickens?” Nina says, laying down on the sofa. “We should just eat them already.”

You gasp. “I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that.”

“Fine.” She curls her knees into herself. “Fine, fine, fine. Keep your stupid chickens.” She mumbles.

“Then we have a deal?”

“Yeah.” She says yawning. Her eyes close and in seconds she begins to snore. You consider carrying her to the bed, but not wanting to wake her, you instead throw a blanket over her. Excellent. You’ve just secured your finances for the foreseeable future.

You look at the red-headed monstrosity balled up in fetal position and wonder if this counts as taking advantage of a drunk woman.

No, you decide, pulling the blanket to her chin. It’s just business.

You head upstairs where you find your Elf waiting for you at the veranda, rubbing sleep from her eyes. Damn. Looks like there’s no escaping this.

“Master, do you still want to talk?”

You nod. “Yeah, maybe we should sit down.” You gesture to the table. The only light you can see now are the streetlamps and the stars and the glowing green of your Elf’s eyes.

Maybe he’s got a new slave to torment, or maybe he’s now focusing on his new project. After all he mentioned attempts to make elves into the servitor caste, maybe tormenting her was a way of coping with frustration of his plan falling apart at apparent unsustainability.

Him knowing we have specifically Leia is certainly a possibility we cannot fully dismiss, even though we’ve so far seen nothing, IC or OOC, to support it. Closest to putting it together is probably Lawson on account of seeing us with her repeatedly.

>You are now Leia

You master sits across from you, holding his head in his hands and muttering to himself. His hair is disheveled and unkempt, curls bunched together like a heap of clothes. A primal urge compels you to run your hands through them, or a comb, or a pair of scissors. But you dare not do that without permission and you dare not ask for permission for fear of its implications. No matter how much the sight irks you. At least you can take comfort in the drawings, although recently you’ve wanted to experiment with something other than bits of charcoal from the stove.

The children at the orphanage had colored chalk and soft crayons. But the paintings that Miss Sarah showed you were better than them all, if only you could get a set of paints--and then you catch yourself. Foolish, foolish girl! You grip your hands together, trying to wring out these, covetous, selfish, ungrateful thoughts. Poison! Pure poison!

Then your master speaks.

“I don’t know how to say this.” He says, scratching his hair and somehow making it worse. “I thought about trying to ease into it or…” He searches the air, but nothing comes to him. “Well anyway, I’m not going to do that. I’m just going to be straight with you.”

You nod, not quite understanding, but feeling that this has something to do with your conversation with Mister Roche. You still haven’t told your master about him and it’s been eating at you all day. You know you have to tell him, but what if he decides to get rid of you? Or would he get rid of you because you didn’t tell him? But how would he find out? No, but, he wouldn’t get rid of you for that. He promised as long as you were healthy and tried your best at the work, he’d keep you--and you have. And he follows his rules. So he wouldn’t get rid of you right? Why didn’t you tell him as soon as you had arrived? He’ll think you were hiding it from him. Oh! Stupid, stupid, stupid girl!

“Woah, woah, why are you crying? I haven’t even said anything yet.”

You shake your head and wipe your eyes, trying to keep the overwhelming emotions inside your chest. “I-I’m sorry master. I didn’t mean to do it. Please don’t get rid of me.” You blurt out.

“What? What are you talking about?”

You still yourself, trying again to wring these excess emotions from your hands. Your burnt and destroyed hands, that unlike your feet, you cannot even cover.

It all comes out at once, like a sneeze. It doesn’t even come out in order.

You start at the end when Mister Toad came to pick you up and the all guards had already left and he stayed behind to “case the place out” (and here, in your absolute panic you even attempted a rough imitation of his scratchy voice), then you skipped to the part where Roche offered you a knife emphasizing that, of course, you didn’t take it because you would never ever ever betray your master, not even if he was working with your previous master, not even if he hurt you, because you knew he would only do it if he absolutely had to and because you trusted him and then you skipped back to the beginning when Roche first came in and asked about the leeches and the hearts and your master and the cure and that you didn’t tell him anything and that he seemed somehow sad and how he called you darling and dear and kissed your brow before he left and how sorry you are, how so very, very stupid you feel for not telling your master sooner and finally that you understand if he wants to let you go (and here you stifle a sob because even the thought of it is so terrifying, even more than the leeches, even more than your old master) and but that you’ll work twice as hard if he would just forgive you, that you’d do anything--

And then he grabs your hands, your ruined, destroyed hands, and he squeezes them very gently and slowly all the words die from your lips, until there is only left the apology, the “I’m sorry” over and over until even that has no meaning and then only silence and your master’s face in the darkness of the stars and the streetlamps.

“I’m going to be working for Antipater.” He says. The name has no meaning for you, but you listen. “I think--” He touches his eyes and sniffs. “I think he might be the one who hurt you, but I have to work for him because he’s going to hurt a lot more people and I think I can do more good near him than away from him. Because I want to stop him, if I can, or if I can’t I want to do as much as I can to mitigate the collateral damage.” He pauses and leans back and hides his eyes with one hand, but never relaxes the grip on your own with the other. “I know how you must feel about him, and I promise you I will not let him hurt you again--I swear that--but I have to do this. I have to try. And...I’ll need your help.”

Cont.
>>
>>2816757
“Me?”

“Yes. For one, the cure to this disease is inside you. And for another, I need you--that is, for helping with the experiments and for general maintenance of the house.” He clears his throat and sighs. “One day, one day I’ll free you. I promise that too. When you’re ready to leave, I won’t stop you.”

“But I don’t want to leave, master.” You say, quietly.

“I know, but one day you will.”

“No.” You say.

“Listen to me. This kind of dependence isn’t healthy.” And he releases the grip on your hand, splaying his fingers out. “I’m grateful that you have so much faith in me, but I don’t know that I’m worthy of it. I’m just some nameless orphan--you know that orphans are considered bad luck? Ah, I don’t even know what I’m saying anymore.”

“Master is good.” You say, and it is said with an absolute conviction, the stainless steel of religious fervor. But your master shakes his head.

“Roche was right about one thing, your perspective is warped by what you’ve suffered. And I’m at least “good” enough not to ignore that. I won’t throw you away Leia, but I won’t stop you if--when--you’ll want to leave. All I ask for until that day, is what you’ve already given me, your help and your namesake--loyalty. What do you say?”

“I won’t leave master’s side.” You say. “Never ever.”

He laughs, but you know that kind of laugh, the mocking laugh. “We’ll see.” He says and then you do something bold, you grab his hand as it leaves your own and you hold it fast.

“I won’t.” You say.

And then the night is perfect in its stillness and it quiet for several throbbing seconds. Until the clouds tear open and something falls straight from the heavens to the earth in front of your master’s home, leaving a small semi-circular crater in the mud. You follow your master to the railing where he calls out to the two men that have suddenly appeared. “Franklin? Is that you?”

There’s a slight parting of the wind as a tall man (taller than Mister Franklin, yet like in appearance) suddenly flies up to the balcony, floating in mid-air.

“Charmed.” He says. “I’m Samson, I’m sure my little brother has told you about me?”

“Thrice Great.” Says your master, cowering slightly. “He did...but never told me his brother was a mageknight.”

I'm constantly amazed by how amazing our Elf is and how she keeps getting better. We should get her nice sketching and painting supplies

Also, I'm super excited for when Seabass notices he's ragged and asks Leia to cut his hair now
>>
>This kind of dependence isn’t healthy.
I mean if she was dependent on a scum bag, maybe. But Seabass is a good man, with a good head on his shoulders.
We love and take care of elf, so why shouldn't she be dependent on us?
We would never do anything to hurt Elf, would we?
>>
>>2818467
Even if he is a good man, this level of dependance is bad? what when Seabass dies? Because he will die. maybe in a year, maybe in 70. Is she just going to break down and kill herself? that's not really a good thing.
>>
>>2818467
Like >>2816847 pointed out, like half the cast has an inferiority complex, and Seabass doesn't think he's a very good person on top of that

Or, maybe, we get her to form an identity that isn't inextricably bound with our wants and desires, so she is capable of independent thought and not having her most likely Cause of death pointless sacrifice
>>
>>2818467
We wouldn’t, at least not consciously or willingly. But we wouldn’t want her to hurt or kill herself because she felt or was led to think it would help us or something like that. She can be our friend (or more) without abandoning her self.

Doubt it. Even if Watdo was interested in writing a harem route, I don't think our elf would be very thrilled to share.
I'm not sure, but I get the feeling she might end up going full "kill the competition" yandere.
>>
>>2823393
I don't think the elf wants a romantic relationship. Being around Sebastian would probably be enough, and let's be serious here guys. Marrying the elf is not what we should be doing, we should marry an accomplished somewhat shut-in alchemist chick. We can probably manage that after we get more famous while working for Antipater.
>>
Personally I'm hoping that Seabass and Nina end up together and that the elf becomes a sort of permanent family member for them their children and their grandchildren.
>>
>>2823739
I'm pretty sure she had dreams/drew pictures of beings married to us with kids.

Not gonna lie, I would rather Seabass end up with anyone but Nina, or even wind up alone. She's the only character that i feel bored by, to the point that sometimes I'm tempted to just skip her scenes when they come up (her sode-story was feels though)
>>
>>2823739
I don't necessarily dislike Nina like other anons but she definitely is a weaker member of the cast.
On the other hand Leia is top tier but she needs support not romance (for now at least).
Nina is getting better so anything can happen.

>>
>>2825079
You realize we are going to live with her and have bought half of that house, right? Before you know it, we are going to be married and have several children.
>>
>>2825146
See, part of that is why I'm not a fan of Nina. She isn't connected to this story in any real way; while everyone else is part of the Sebastian and Leia's alchemy quest, Nina feels like the protagonist of a different story entirely who got shunted here by mistake
>>
>>2825238
But she is. She was Seabass’s landlady, she made Leia a dress and she’s in big part the reason why he’s still alive.
>>
>>2825277
Yes, but it feels like she just wondered into the story. Everyone else, except like Mam and Rose, have an intrinsic connection to the plot and storyline
Nina's the protagonist of Housing Mogul Quest, who's tenant is off doing things she never interacts with directly
>>
>>2825238
Why would she even be involved in Sebastian's problems?
>>
>>2825300
Not just Sebastian's problems, the conspiracy, or alchemy stuff in general. Everyone else has a connection, a stake. Nina's our landlord, and has a crush on us for some unknown reason. To me at least, it feels like she should be a more minor character in this story, and the only reason she isn't is because anons want to fuck her
>>
>>2825294
But she does interact with seabass directly; and from what OP said regarding the quest I get impression that she was part of the story before the conspiracy plot even existed... and there’s no reason for her to be involved in conspiracy any more than Sarah would be. She’s simply a person from Seabass’s life and it makes sense for them to interact, especially given her feelings.

For the record I’m rather in favour of Elf route personally. However I’m not looking forward to waifu wars at all. And it seems they’re already here.
>>
>>2825331
Counterpoint: Sarah got dragged into everything already

And this is mostly outside of waifu-shit for me as well ( I am biased though, elf is better). I just feel like Nina's really not very important. Her being less interesting than the rest of the cast is a bit of an issue for me too, but that's definitely a preference thing
>>
>>2825313
There's probably some truth to that. I for one don't really care who gets wifed, I just enjoy the story.

To be fair, we don't know all that much about Nina and her family. How exactly her mother died, and how we could have saved her if we'd gotten Seabass more involved with her life are potential avenues closed to us.

Isn't she nobility or something? What are her family's connections to Antipater's machinations?
>>
>>2825618

>>
I feel I should add some words of god to this discussion.

>>2825238
>She isn't connected to this story in any real way
You mean she isn't connected to this arc in any real way. Without wanting to spoil anything, she's really a set up for later arcs (if I decide to have them) though do some scenes in mind for her later this arc--especially since you made the decision to move in--with--her. She's also supposed to be a breather from the main plot, a resting point between the action. Finally keep in mind that all the characters (except for two) were "shunted in" in the beginning. Who became important and integral to the action was generated over time as you got involved in factional goings-on and I made arbitrary decisions/connections.

Mam, Rose, Gunter, Lily, the dude that stabbed you, the dude that was making redweed with troll feces, Glossman, Toad's friends, the adventurer party that helped Toad bust Leia out, hell even Nancy and Jim may yet have parts to play. They're all set pieces, and because this is a quest and not a novel things happen in a procedural way. The more you squint at something, the greater its resolution.

>>2825313
>Nina's our landlord, and has a crush on us for some unknown reason.
Part of the sidestory was to hint at her reasons for the crush. They actually have a lot in common. They're both orphans, though Nina was adopted and Seabass grew up in an orphanage. They're both industrious and good at what they do. They both have trouble expressing their feelings, though in different ways (I also wanted to show where Nina got that from). They're both compassionate albeit lonely (Nina gave clothes to the orphans and to Leia--and though it was partly for self-interest, I'd say deep down she also wanted to help Leia and see her smile). Hell, they both even have unrequited loves. And despite her mom always saying "Men don't like women who work too much", Seabass is the only one that actually appreciates her industry (albeit begrudgingly). Franklin doesn't count because she doesn't (yet) see him as a man.

>To me at least, it feels like she should be a more minor character in this story, and the only reason she isn't is because anons want to fuck her

So far she has been a minor character, story-wise. Discussion-wise I can't really control that but the dream side story is the closest I'll ever get to anything lewd in this quest. I can't envision Seabass going for a "harem route" unless its a threesome with Alchemy and Judaism and I like alchemy discussions more than waifu-wars because it gives me stuff I can actually use. I can't see him romancing Leia (yet). Leia probably doesn't even understand what romantic love is and Seabass has his own insecurities regarding family and his growing attachment (or perhaps, bondage) to Leia. He also doesn't want to hurt Leia by drudging up her past abuse.

mah boi

It is one's waifu that defines one's laifu. The slower it grows, the bigger it'll eventually get, and no character has a longer way to go than Leia, leaving her the most room to grow into the bestest of waifus.

Having said that, this quest being so sophisticated when it comes to alchemy is what makes it worth having a waifu in it in the first place. Pure waifu quests are cancer. Story and world-driven waifu quests are the patrician's choice. A harem ending certainly fits within that depending on how serious the setting is. For ESWDQ I agree it wouldn't be fitting.

Besides, Nina seems like the type of character that will move on after some time when she realizes Seabass isn't gonna take her bait, and that there are other fish in the sea. Hell, I ship her with Franklin who seems to have fallen for her hook, line and sinker. Alright, fine, enough sea-related puns, it's like shooting fish in a barrel anyway.

Still, we need a reason to get up in the morning other than trying not to be a fucking poorfag. Something that drives us to be a better person. Someone who allows us to gain something more than just not being the continual loser we were. Also, no character melts hearts better than Leia-chan, so that kinda settles it. She may not be the waifu Seabass currently finds himself wanting, but she definitely is the one he needs. Nina cannot fill that role. Doomed from the start.
>>
>>2826003
I agree with this anon. Waifufaggotry is a more time> better waifu kinda deal.
That's obviously why Leia is the ultimate long term, best waifu.
Nina is that "childhood friend" character that you can romance at any time but where's the challenge in that?
Besides, you all are forgetting about our true love.

hah, you wish. Leia has already considered that, specially if you notice she has some parts of her notebook she doesn't let us look at. The only "hard" part is to make her believe that she isn't "dirty" and that is piss easy to circumvent.
>>
>>2826242
You know damned well that's exactly what I'm saying here.
>>
If we go the elf route, any relation with her would have too much power difference and make our efforts seem hypocritical and contraproductive, as she would only fall more and more into servitude/reliance. That's why you don't date your therapist.

While I think Elf is best girl, it wouldn't be in her best interest to enter in a relationship with Sebastian. It just wouldn't be healthy, and the lewd-to-heal myth is just a myth.

Then again, a story is just a story too, so Waldo can make a golden harem ending or make pigs shit rainbows if he wants to.
>>

You seem to misunderstand.

It is not my goal to heal. Healing is arrogance.
Leia is fine as she is. Seabass is not meant to be some kind of saint either. Troubled people seeking one another is fine. Anything else and you're just saying she isn't good enough for you until you've re-shapen her as you see fit. Let her serve us as much as she likes.

YOU ARE ALL FORGETTING LEIA DOESN'T HAVE A WOMB MUAHAHAHAHAHA.

Anyway, I prefer when you anons discuss about illuminati instead of waifus. Why not wonder how strong a mageknight is, why was Toad going to become one (probably because hero of the country/war). This is also the first real interaction we have with the third factiom Seabass may have joined.

Leia does have a scar on her stomach and that does have to do with the loss of her magic. Elves also consider hair to be the most attractive feature in a person. But neither the womb nor the hair has ever been directly stated as being the source of Elf magic.

But the womb thing did give me some ideas which I might use.

>>
>>2827198
Some people enjoy pain. Others enjoy observing pain. Yet others enjoy inflicting pain. Some are a mix of those three.

Let's just be glad we've not gotten any of the sorts of people who'd want to torture our elf.
>>
>>2826296

>>
How to put it... for the catharsis to happen, there has to be something that cannot be undone.
We all are harboring the hope Leia will finally heal her scars, and I mean the ones under her skin...
We even harbor the hope that there is a way to restore her magic, since at least her flesh is (still?) magical (The hair & blood)

Say, a very bad story kills a character but revives it later and a bad story uses the character even after death...
But this story? I have high hopes for it, and so I hope we will be crushed when we learn that there is no way for Leia to forget all she has been trough and if there is a happy ending, we will fear the day Seabass dies and Leia remains with no memento but her memories of him and the drawings she has made.
She will remember him with every painless step she will make and every song she will sing. She will be empty yet full at the same time, and so we will be

This quest's going to be a painful journey for all the characters, but hopefully the characters who survive the finale will be able to live out the rest of their lives in happiness
>>
What the hell are you all smoking?

>>2827718
I can kind of understand where you're going with this, but tying barreness with her innate happiness is going a bit strong. Adding on sterility when there's barely even an idea of it for the primary reason of causing suffering is exactly the kind of bad storytelling that you should avoid.

Proper Suffering/Healing combos are about not holding back or whitewashing on what someone actually went through. It's about struggling with what they should definitely have, not adding more grandiose disabilities. It's about moving forward even if you're never truly "better", but having enough steel to grow up to "okay".
>>
>>2827858
Pretty much this. Healing is a myth. Thinking you can do it is hubris of the highest degree. You just accept one another as they are and worth with what you have left. Even the sweetest ending will be a tinge bitter. Leia will always have her scars.

>>2826464
You obviously never tried to heal.

An ending resulting in Seabass' and Leia's happiness is a distinct possibility, but it is one where they accept their fate. Leia is damaged to the point where she needs to be submissive to feel purpose. Any happiness she experiences from being useful to Seabass is real. If you say now you want her to feel some other type happiness, that is what makes you arrogant. You are projecting your own type of happiness onto Leia. You must accept whatever way SHE chooses to live her life. You may not realize it as you are doing it, but this implies a judgement of her current system of values. That is the stupidest thing you can do as you will just tell her she's not good enough once again, and this time she trusts the one saying it and hate herself for not being able to become the better person you seem to want her to be, regardless of whose sake it is for, but really, in the end, it's just for the sake of your own sense of satisfaction.

She has fallen for us for who we are now. We are her Master, her owner. We are nice to her and appreciative of her loyalty and servitude. We are supportive of her development and demand only what is reasonable. That is the person she draws in the secret section of her notebook. If that is what she desires in us why would we try to be someone else?

Let the elf serve us as she pleases. It certainly isn't the worst fate that could befall her. All we need to do is show due appreciation and support. If, and that's an if, not a when, she is ready to move on, she will. For this she needs to be secure first and she never will be if you disapprove of her life choices. Take this from someone with experience in the matter.
>>
Ok, finally cought up with everything.

How are we going to fuck with Antipater?

how about we introduce a delayed cure to the toxin, a way that it will heal itself after it has being deployed and after peace has been reached?

also, elf long and drawn out route is only route, don't be silly anons
>>
>>2828001
Another thing to think about

now that we know about Roche, we can try and work with him, he has the connections and resources to help us bring Antipater down
>>
>>2828029
>he wants to work with the knife-ear that tried to convice our cute little Leia to stab us in the dick
>>
>>2828033
he tried that because he doesn't know us.
His methods are fucked, but his heart is in the right place, she was trying to protect her like we do too. And more importantly, he agrees with us that what Antipater does is fucked, and I think he wants to put a stop to it like we do.

Now that Leia told us everything we know that he really wanted to help.
>>
>>2828033
don't you get it? Roche was us, she was trying to bring Antipater down from the inside and Toad fucked us.
>>
>>2828040
>but his heart is in the right place
I don't recall it being inside a glass jar yet, but I'm sure we can change that.

Fuck. Toad is right. Don't trust the ear-niggers.

>>2828049
>She
>Implying Roche didn't play a huge part in the planned genocide of the lizards
>>
>>2828053
Roche was trying to cure them, man, he was trying to undo what Antipater did. The only problem he had in my opinion was that he had a murderboner for Toad, and I suspect that Toad deserves that murderboner for some reason.

Serious talk here, you know he was trying to destroy Antipater from the inside like we are planning to do too right?

he wasn't responsible for the plague but he was responsible for doing everything in his power( falsifying documents to get the best equipment, recruiting you under wraps to fuck with his sons toxin) to stop the lizardman genocide, even if he was callous about his conditions, and his motives where probably to benefit the elves and not the lizardmen, he did want to foil that monster's(Antipater) plans.

He is stlll someone with money and subterfuge that can help us get out of this situation alive and with Antipater discredited or dead
>>
>>2828066
You're balancing your life on a knife-ear's edge.
"The enemy of your enemy dies next". I dont want to be next.
>>
>>2828093
I'm not balancing our life on his edge, I'm saying we have the same goals for now and we really have no powerful allies to deal with the shit we got ourselves into out of fear

and consider this, if we don't reach out for him, instead of next we can become first if he thinks we are genuinely working for Antipater(which we are not)

if he knows that we plan to fuck with him this will make sure Roche will not try anything against us until we fuck with Antipater, and he will even help us achieve those goals.

the fact that he feels our elf is a saint and that he utterly rejected causing her harm or draging her away by force makes me trust his character even more, hell, giving her the knife was a show of good heart because he doesn't know we are not a monster like Antipater, he only gave her the knife because we went to the Antipater meeting
>>
>>2828106
Nothing good will come of that man
>>
>>2828113
based on what?

do you have a better plan or other allies to help us fuck with Antipater from the inside?
>>
>>2828120
I think he has trust issues.

On that topic, I will say this.

It's not smart to trust blindly. So it's a good thing we know where he stands. I think we can try to work with him- simply with the expectation that he's planning to fuck us over. Hopefully we can convince him not to do that eventually, but hope for the best and plan for the worst. He's one of the best potential resources we have.
>>
>>2828140
I have issues trusting people who haven been openly hostile. But I guess you can just shove that under trust issues in general.
>>
>>2828215
To be fair, he had some reasons to be openly hostiles, we were buddies with a war criminal and had an elf as a slave. Again, he didn't know us at the time and after he sees the real us he may change his approach.

I'm not saying to trust the guy, but after what he has shown and in the situation we are currently he is certainly worth a try seeing as we are working with the devil and want to destroy said devil. We need all the help we can get.
>>
It seems we have had to choose to work WITH Roche instead working FOR Antipater hmmmm?
>>
>>2828001
I was thinking we 'accidentally' make the cure transmit like the disease, so lizardfolk can heal themselves
>>
>>2828428
Wouldn't the cure have to be some kind of microorganism than?
>>
>>2828459
The disease is sexually transmitted. If we could key immunization or recovery to the sexual fluids of lizardfolk, we're set
>>
>>2828469
Wait so the little orphan girl got lizard raped?
>>
>>2828428
I was thinking if we could mix a delaying agent to the cure, it would make it take some time to cure the thing permanently, so Antipater would think everything is A-OK until all the lizardmen start getting better after he already brokered the peace
>>
>>2828469
>>2828428
>>2828531
this is way harder to achieve than what you expect. We just learned how to do it and we had to have access to gene editing procedures and several decades of research. I know seabass is in a magical world with magical stuff, but it will take him years at the very least to develop a viable cure and several decades to see a noticeable change in the afflicted communities.
>>
>>2828481
Nah. We think it transmitted by bodily fluids and then touching orifices. So one adventurer touched lizard blood > touched little girl > little girl forgot to wash hands.
>>
>>2828559
so we just sabotage the toxin instead? is that what your plan?
>>
>>2828585
Honestly? My plan consists in just fucking off to some far away place and start anew, lest we want to end up as broken as toad. But since i know we won't do that, the best way is to bind the cure to mosquitoes or some other animal that the lizards eat, use, or get frequently pestered by. That way the cure doesn't get locked up on a single lizard or whatever that decides to be monogamous, has the advantage of being capable of spreading quickly and antipater would be none the wiser. Making the cure have a delayed effect on the population is going to be hard, but if the "carriers" have the cure in small doses(and they absorb it in their fatty cells or similar) it should be possible. Other than that, i really don't know.
>>
>>2828611
i really liked your idea actually, the mosquitos that is, not the fucking off
>>
>>2826666
>It's something that stuck since Seabass saw a nasty scar on Leia's belly to what she commented "They took my magic away"
]For what it's worth, I've had the exact same theory for a while now --well, I'm not certain her entire uterus was literally removed, but there is a fair amount of anecdotal evidence to support the notion that her reproductive system and magic have been tampered with.
My biggest sticking point is that Antipater's rhetoric is very clearly drawing from the social darwinism/eugenics movement which, when taking his interest in elven reproduction into consideration, evokes the work of the Nazi scientists who conducted reproductive experiments (including but not limited to sterilisation via removal of the uterus) on prisoners in concentration camps. The QM is packing a biologist background, and he clearly has a familiarity with historical theories, terminology, and practices (see: animalcules) so I suspect this is an intentional or at the very least subconscious choice on Watdo's part. And iirc, at some point when Leia said her magic was removed (I think it was when we were buying security measures with Toad) she was described as moving a hand over her abdomen which implies that a physical surgery was involved.
Basically, both the magic and reproductive systems of elves are not understood, so it is easy to see why one might theorise that they might be linked; plus it appears that Toad believes that magic is part of their reproduction. And yeah, this is just a pet theory, I won't claim it to be truth just yet but I think it has some merit. Just wanted to throw in my two cents; please don't let this kick off another pointless argument.

>>2828140
This anon has the right idea. Roche is a potential ally but that doesn't mean we have to trust him.

>>2828481
>Wait so the little orphan girl got lizard raped?
Not necessarily, given that Lawson is already passing out a cure I suspect she was infected through blood-blood contact with another human.

>>2828559
>this is way harder to achieve than what you expect. We just learned how to do it and we had to have access to gene editing procedures and several decades of research.
This, kinda. The best we can hope for is something like the Oral Polio Vaccine + Injected Polio Vaccine combo to prevent the spread. But that would require cultivating an attenuated form of the disease, which will be a pain if it's a literally fantasy HIV because fuck trying to create a vaccine for a retrovirus.

>>2828611
Mosquitoes might work depending on nature of the cure, but we would first have to check to make sure that the disease can't use mosquitoes as a vector (heh, for once we *are* hoping it acts like HIV).

On the other hand, nina is the crafty kind of woman that can keep you on your toes, isn't a yes-man like leia and all around more useful.

Fall and winter are just around the corner. And the nights get awfully cold...
>>
>>2829689
Indeed. Nina is a crafty one after all.
>>
>>2829693
No nina man, its Leia.

We already established friendship, I'm shipping nina to Franklin now that we are friends
>>
>>2829689
And now I'm really excited for Leia and Seabass to huddle together for warmth
Only warmth.
Nothing romantic there.
Ignore the blushing and stupid half-grins
>>
>>2829713
Please. Leia is still thinking that we will beat her to pulp one of these days, and it will take a shitload of time before we manage to change that.
>>
>>2829689
We might need to buy proper blankets then.
>>
>>2829745
She certifiably doesn’t, otherwise she would’ve taken the knife from Roche.

Emm lads?
Don't you think we're slowly turning Leia into a Yandere?
After that talk with Rochr, our talk with her and her doodles it's starting to make a bit too much sense.
Not that I mind but it goes against the progress we made with her.

Nah, she hasn't shown pathological levels of possessiveness and jealousy on her POV bits, she is very dependant and attached(maybe romanticaly) yes, but didn't seam dangerously possessive
>>

Leia is adorable and you shut your skeleton whore mouth.
>>
>>2829689
We are giving a room for Leia on the new house aren't we... complete with plushies and a bed with pink sheets.

IF WE SURVIVE SANSOM THAT IS

>>
>>2830254
Good thing we befriended Franklin and took the fall for him for his murder right?

Samson can be another ally in this, but now as much as Roche, since I think lizardman genocide is the best day of his life
>>
>>2830254
>>2830300
The murder is a non-issue now and we are working for Antipater, thus we should enjoy a minuscule of defense in that regard. I doubt Franklin's brother is here to kill us. It might be that Franklin talked to him about us and that he is part of the other faction (that watdo mentioned) and that we will not get the opportunity to work as a double agent (which I would strongly advise against).
>>
>>2830322
double agent or internal saboteur are the only options we have since working for Antipater would make us the greatest hypocrite, disgusting piece of human flesh there is
>>
>>2830254
I would say we should get her a pet, but that would send her into a horiffic panic attack
>>
>>2830356
This just gave me an idea for a great scene. Thanks.

>>

One thing is being emotionally scarred, and the other is being an idiot. Leia is the first, but not the second.
>>
>>2831131
She does panic though.
>>
Really, what is the appeal of Nina outside of physical proximity and the fact that she's already attracted to Seabass?
>>
>>2831176
literally nothing
Leia waifu for laifu, tsunderes go home
>>
also, should we think of paying Leia now that we've got a massive amount of money (from Seabass' perspective) coming in? like 5-10 sovereigns a month, so that she's able to get stuff for herself when she wants it?
>>
>>2831249
I like the fact he loves Leia more than sheckels, I mean, the guy blown 300 sovs on troll hearts so he wouldn't have to make her suffer. 300 sovs is more money he ever saw in his life I think, she is definitely way more than 6 sovereigns

In my eyes we need to let leia learn the following skills:

-Fighting with knifes
-Using a bow
-Scouting
Maybe 3 hours in the morning each day would be enough, one hour for each skill.

Also we should ask the magenight if its theoretically possible to restore her magic.
>>
>>2831375
>Also we should ask the magenight if its theoretically possible to restore her magic

This
>>
>>2831134
But she understands that sleeping is, since she has to do it and has seen other living beings do it.

>>2831375
First lets get her into a healthy weight, and then we see if she is even capable of firing a bow, since you need several tens pounds of force to do it.
>>
>>2831456
Yeah but would she realise hamsters are nocturnal?
>>
>>2831490
we, or the store owner would tell her, or she would ask us why are they sleeping all the day.
>>
>>2828322
Roche has legit reasons to be hostile and not trust humans. As such, we'd be fucking idiots to put our trust in him. We already know he's tried to get Leia to kill Seabass.

If anything, we should attempt to get Roche and Antipater to destroy each other.
>>
What worries me about Roche is the organization he works for. Because he isn't the head if it, far as Toad thought in his side bit. So who's his boss and what do they want?
>>
>>2831560
His boss was Antipater, we know what he wants, nothing good.

Roche was working againt his boss, and effectively left the organization. But I'm sure he still has some contacts or else he wouldn't be a faction.

>>2831554
We don't need to trust him, but we have the same goal, destroy Antipater. And he didn't offer the knife to her so she would kill us, he offered so she could protect herself if/when we betrayed her. He obviously faced some shit and has reasons to distrust humans, all elfs do since the humans invented a bullshit war just to turn them into slaves.

My theory is that he hates Toad so much because he is related to the elven wife Toad had and betrayed. He was probably her brother or something.

In short what I'm trying to say is. Don't trust him, but he is a good resource to use against the monster Antipater
>>
>>2831560
At that point in time he had a deal with the viceroy that apparently included guards looking out for his thugs but seeing as antipater wants Roche dead now that deal may no longer be valid.
As for his goal, I am worried he will not be content with emancipation but will want men to suffer at least as much as elves did or preferably more, which is why I’m inclined to honour the maxim of “enemy of your enemy is your enemy’s enemy, nothing more, nothing less.
>>
>>2831584
He understood Leia's reason, maybe he is not beyond saving, line I said, don't trust but he will be helpful if we use him
>>
>>2831554
>>2831584
I don't think anyone here saying 'let's be Pals'. We just think we can mutually use each other because that's the most efficient and optimal method to achieve both of our immediate goals. What happens afterwards is, while concerning, ultimately irrelevant if we don't manage to get what we want done here.
>>
>>2832101
True, but considering that his position right now is considerably weakened and that we are aware of where he stands, we will need to be extremely careful when dealing with him, not just from fear of double cross but also to not provoke response from our “patron”. In the meantime it would be good to survey the rest of the landscape, like the king (existence of “vice”roys implies existence of royalty), competitors, the church etc.
