You sit down.

With a big sigh, you come to realize just how exhausted you are. With a final sprint, you and your friends have ended everything. Shozuku is dead, and with his death, the cultists will fall apart. With no one to lead them and give them power, it's finally over. So many lives have been disrupted since they came here.

Even though Shozuku was an awesome shinobi, he was also really troublesome. The current civil war in the Mist is still going to be a problem for years to come.

The angry boy disrupted peace in the world. You fall flat on your back, laying near his dead body. "What a messed up guy. Even still, he was kind of a victim too."

As you lie dazed, you don't realize it at first when Mari is standing over you. She frowns. "You're not hurt, are you?"

You smile. "Well, yeah. But nothing serious, I don't think. Not as bad as him. Could you help me up?"

She holds out her hand, and you're pulled to your feet. The sounds of fighting can still be heard in the distance, although not as ferocious. You look around, slightly hunched over from your exhaustion. Going full throttle like that really did a number on your body.

"We gotta find the orb." you suggest. "It's holding the tailed beast."

Mari's eyes bulge, and she sees it through the mud right away with her Byakugan. "Got it. So, was he as ferocious as ever?" She remarks as she points to Shozuku.

She bends down and grabs the orb, cradling it. "Let's get out of here. It's time for us to go back to camp and let everyone else take over. They'll push the remnants of their forces outside of the city."

"Right." you say, rubbing your face. "Is everyone we came with okay?"

Your friend nods, and steps next to you. "Yeah. They had to recover all the others, and I said I'd push ahead and retrieve you. Still hard to believe you actually beat him."

"Yeah." you mutter. "I think I'm still in shock from it all. I swear, so many times I was on the edge of losing, and I just thought 'I can't back down from him'. He kept raising the bar higher, and I kept responding. I feel like I understand a bit more about what it really means to win."

Mari scratches her face. "What it means to win, huh? Well, in our line of business that seems simple. The winners live and the losers, die, right?"

The two of you stand over Shozuku's corpse. Though you're unsure, it looks as if the faintest hint of a smile is on the corners of his mouth. But maybe he just tensed up as he was about to die. It's difficult to tell.

"I just don't know, Mari. Let's head out before I fall asleep."

The two of you exit, and sneak back to the edge of the city where you return to the camp.

The people you came with, and others, are spread around the various tents resting. You have a chance to talk to them before going to sleep, if you like.

You and Mari separate once you reach the camp, and you start to look for Ai. You feel that it's only right considering what just happened. It doesn't take long for someone to direct you to the tent that she's resting in, and you enter the quiet, dark room. The sunlight hitting the side of the tent illuminates it somewhat, and Ai sits with a book in her hands. She looks up, and smiles lightly. "Takeshi.. you made it."

With a thumbs up, you sit down on the other side. "Yeah, just barely. Every time I ever fought that guy it was a hairy situation, but this time he went all out."

She nods. "Was it scary?"

"It was." you say, looking down. Thankfully I ran into the Boil Release technique that I did. He was stronger, tougher, maybe a better fighter. Had more chakra, way more advanced techniques, and all those acid jutsu. But I was able to neutralize it with my technique and speed. At times, I was amazed how he was able to push through the pain. He had this image of being immortal and unbreakable, and right to the very end. I honestly thought he might jump up and attack me from the ground, even as I had him pinned."

She smiles, not looking at you. "Sounds just like him."

You grin as well. "He jumped right in the way of every attack I made. Took it all again and again. I wonder what he was thinking of that let him do that."

Ai's smile widens, and she starts to tear up. Her mind cuts back to the young Shozuku standing in front of her, his arms spread.

"You leave my little sister alone! It's not right!"

He's back handed, and knocked to the ground. But the boy pushes himself right back up and spits the blood to the floor.

Ai's mother shouts. "Isn't it enough, Shozuku!? Just stop it!"

The father holds his hand up and curls it into a fist, and their mother shrieks as he brings it down and cracks it across Shozuku's mouth. His head spins around and he lands on the ground in front of Ai, looking at her terrified face for a moment before turning back. He has a cut across the bridge of his nose bleeding profusely.

The little boy holds his arms out in defiance, protecting her. His eyes burn. "I hate you. I hate you. I hate you!!!"

She laughs, snapping back to reality. "He never really changed. He was just, striking out at the world for what it was."

She stands up, sobbing. "He was thinking 'It doesn't matter what happens to me. I just want to hurt this world that has hurt me.'"

Hanto knocks on the top of the tent, and the both of you look up. He leans in. "Hiya, kids." You can see Kichiro's shadow outside of the tent, standing in the light. You see his clenched fists trembling, and he speaks. "But why'd he have to be so damn evil?"

Hanto looks at the ground, and sighs. "I think we can all understand the feelings of a mad dog."

Ai wipes her eyes. "He just didn't have the chance to have friends like us. He fought on his own, and lost."

You frown.

Ai wipes her face again, and stands. "He could have focused on changing the world for the better, but he just wanted to drag it down with him. Come on guys, let's go home!"

She rushes out of the tent door, and you almost fall over as you rush to get up. "H-Hey! Wait a second, I need to rest for a little bit!"

Hanto grabs you by the arm and yanks you out, starting to heal you with his other hand. "You should be fine for a hike, with this. Trust me, you'll want to sleep in your own bed instead of a cot after a fight like this."

You nod slowly, before an idea pops into your head. "Oh, Ai! Did you defeat Tomoki?? The Edo Tensei user!"

Ai turns back, and gives you a thumbs up. "Of course. I knew you'd succeed in your battle, so I defeated my foe as well."

You grin, as she marches off. She's really changed from the super serious girl that you'd first met. Instead of icy and determined, at times she seems more gutsy and passionate. Kichiro slaps you on the back and runs ahead, as well. "I gotta get back and see how my sis is doing! Don't take too long, Takeshi. Great work today, team!"

The delinquent, antisocial boy that you once knew is gone as well. Now he's your relaxed, reliable ally.

Hanto takes a drink from his flask, and you chuckle. He hasn't changed all that much though. Neither have you, when you really think about it.

Everyone starts the trip back home, and you camp out for a night before getting back to the gates. (So much for Hanto's bed idea.)

Once you're back home, you say goodbye to your friends and head home for the best sleep of your life. Once you wake, you find your brother and tell him all about your adventures. By the end of your tale, he looks stunned. Your brother tells you that you've grown a lot since you became a shinobi.

As you're leaving your house the next morning, you find a note from the Hokage on your doorstep.

"Hope you slept well. Meet me at the village gates ASAP."

Not wasting any time, you get there right away. However, aside from the guards, no one seems to be present. You take a seat and shut your eyes for a little while, opting to simply relax and wait for the Hokage to arrive.

After a few minutes, something pokes you between the eyes.

You open them, and find Sarada standing over you, her finger on your forehead.

"What are you doing here?" she demands.

"Waiting for the Hokage." you explain.

She takes her finger back, and puts it on her chin. "Curious. What's this supposed to be about, I wonder.."

"I'm not even sure myself." Says Sasuke.

You blink. Suddenly, a man had silently appeared next to you and Sarada. You're not sure how he managed to sneak up on you so perfectly and silently. Looking up, his face seems somewhat familiar.

Gears slowly turn in your head.

You point, eyes wide open suddenly. Now you're certainly awake, if you weren't before.

Sasuke blankly looks at you. "Yes."

You stutter. "I, uh- what I meant was that, you-, you're the guy who- and-"

Sarada is looking up at him in a clear sense of wonder. Makes sense, seeing that as far as you know he's hardly ever home.

She gulps. "Hi, dad."

He smiles faintly. "Hi, Sarada. I hope your mom hasn't been driving you crazy."

She chuckles, half-heartedly. "Hehehe, of course not. W-what are you doing here?"

He scratches his chin. "Well, I'm waiting on that damned Naruto to figure that part out. He called me back here from my explorations for something. Said that it was urgent and required immediate attention."

You stand up, crossing your arms and nodding. "Immediate attention, huh? We should expect to see Naruto in three to five business days, then!"

Standing on the wall above you is the Hokage himself. "Hey! I resent that!"

You point up. "I bet that's just a clone!"

Naruto grips his fist, and yells. "Hey, I'm here, aren't I!?"

Sasuke sighs. "Get down from there already, you moron."

Naruto barks from him on the side of the village wall. "I'll stand here as long as I want, I'm the Hokage! No one tells me to do anything, except Shizune when I need to know something!"

He crosses his arms. The three of you stand there and look at him for a short while. Sarada puts a hand on her hip and opens her mouth. "Are you-"

"No, I'm not done." says Naruto. She frowns. After a few more seconds, he walks down. "Okay, I'm done."

"Why are we here!?" she throws her hands up, yelling.

Naruto grins. "Well, I was thinking that your dad would want to see a couple things. I figured the best way to show him how good both you and Takeshi are, is for you to spar!"

Sasuke frowns. "You dragged me all the way out here for this?"

Naruto elbows him. "Just be patient."

Sasuke walks with Sarada, who seems elated to see her father. They chat while you walk with Naruto.

"So, is he just as good as you, Lord Hokage!"

Naruto frowns, and looks away. "I'm slightly better, of course, being the Hokage and all."

You wink. "Only slightly, eh?"

Naruto grabs the top of your head, and picks you off your feet. "What'd you say!?"

"Nothing, nothing!"

Within a short while you all arrive. Naruto and Sasuke sit next to the war memorial of old. Sarada stands across from you, in the same spot that Mari once stood when you fought her for the first time. You begin by loosening up, punching the air and bobbing up and down in place. Sarada remains still, but you want to relax and try to establish a rhythm.

Naruto grins. "Any questions before we start?"

Jiraya and Orichimaru are two, there was Hanzo whose big thing was utilizing the poisonous organ he took out of a deadly lizard and put into himself. Guy and Dai, Guy specifically was actually quite skilled at ninjutsu and genjutsu, he just preffered his taijutsu. People look at Naruto's OP ninja god bloodline and forget that he inherited it from his mom. His dad, Minato, was considered the strongest ninja of his time but wasn't actually from any notable bloodlines and his a ilities were self made. Bloodlines aren't the be all end all and Neji admits to being wrong, they just focused on that stuff way too hard late shippuden and ruined the whole point of what the manga was originally about which sucks.

Madara claimed the Uchiha were getting screwed by the Senju, but the rest were tired of fighting so they didn't follow Madara, the curse is a reaction of hatred not complacency, seeing what you love most die in front of you, not getting nickel and dimed. Why would they follow Madara? It was only later that shit started to sour and it was the nine tails caused by an Uchiha with the curse that tipped it to the breaking point.

Yeah, mostly because after getting no support from the still battle weary clansmen, Madara left and later got killed by Hashirama in a duel he personally called out. Bet you if he was around longer he'd have gotten more followers, after all, generations later, after Obito sicced the Nine Tailed fox on the village and villagers' view of the clan hit rock bottom, whether the people were aware of how true their assumptions were or not, it was enough for the clan to go full "Madara was right" and plan a coup.

Wait, didn't that stem from Tobirama making the Uchiha the police force in a power play move that would force their clan as a whole partision and therefore take away any real political power they would have as a founding clan and any realy say in how the village would run? It's a shame around the time this quest started the anime hadn't aired yet so Mini didn't have the canon class to draw from beyond what little was shown in the Movie after they already graduated, else I would be saying we go after Class Prez, because from what little I'm seeing of the anime right now, she's nice, plus the other girls in class have nice designs like the ponytail girl, goth loli, cat girl and twintails...
Anyway, I'm for Sarada, I just really dig her overall design from the Movie Don't fucking know why the editor let the mangaka get away with redesigning her to dress like some ladyboy from Thailand, she's also less cunty than Sakura was and is more on the prim and proper side so when she relaxes and cuts loose it's some prime gap moe shit, plus, in quest we've trained together, got into a friendly rivalry and it's fun to pester her, reading Sakura's reactions to our presence around her daughter was also entertaining as fuck since day one too, and I still long for more of it.

To add to this anon, Sarada will also give us better standing to squeeze out some extra skills and/or techniques from Sasuke and Sakura, because sure, they might not mind training some random kid with potential a few things here and there, but they have their own stuff to do and their own daughter to train, but if it's a prospective son-in-law however, it might open up their schedule.

I'll be honest, I want Sakura to teach us her taijutsu technique.
It can be really useful beyond just being able to punch people into a fine red mist: we could punch the battlefield into an uneven mess then apply genjutsu to hide some of it so enemies trip and doubt each step they take, making them easier for our team to take out, or apply it to our legs for explosive bursts of speed and power, or letting us give any team we are on a demolitions expert without a need for explosives or extra gear, just punch the target to rubble.
The possibilities, and all without the danger that comes from opening the Gates

No she wouldn't, Mari's style is a blend of Tenten and Neji, so Sarada'd make a better sparring partner to improve ourselves overall simply because she can see our moves before we throw them and counter rather than be able to either gentle fist our ass or spam her arsenal from afar, plus we can work on our medical jutsu with her between spars.

That isn't a plus, especially considering the reason she even has access to those: she helps around her parent's shop, meaning less time she has for us.
More weapons means we need to spread ourselves over even more things than we already have, rather than waste time trying to be somewhat proficient in many weapons, it's better to just focus on our sword and Sausage can help with that, we already have poisons, Kunai and potentially Chakra Scalpel once we get more proficient in it as backup weapons.

We learn sage mode from summons and not people bruh, and it varies from contract to contract, Naruto can't help us when we have a contract with owls, not toads.
We get more experience traveling with Sauce than staying in the village with Nardo, plus Nardo's Hokage, most of the time we'd be getting a clone for sure.
Sauce has the Sharigan, dude can teach just about any jutsu he's seen a couple of times, heck, he's the one that teaches Boruto the Rasengan in the movie.
Since this would be for a timeskip, it really doesn't matter much if we stay in the village or not, unless QM intends to also inject some social link choices into it if we do stay.
A tough choice.

She has been warming up to us slowly.
Sarada didn't want to waste her time getting to know us in case we are just a fluke or another guy trying to get in her pants, but she still recognized us as a potential threat so she has put time into combating us in case she ever needed to fight us due to her studious nature.
As we have trained with her, she has been forced to see us more as a person, and our standing with her has slowly started to rise.
As of now, she really can’t figure us out. We have gone from fluke to potential hurdle, and this next fight will determine if we quality as a proper rival and officially worth knowing.

I would also like to remind everyone that Mari saw us the same way at the start, but we proved her misconceptions about us wrong pretty early in the quest giving her more time to warm up to us.
This is our first time proving ourselves to Sarada, and there are no reasons not to expect things to go similarly.

No mini said he could, we wouldn't have it unlocked post time skip but we'd be much further along and have a much better understanding of what sage mode is, means, and how to aquire it. It was one of the pluses listed if we chose him.

We're a young ninja still training up and getting stronger, all of the people our age have their careers to think about and need to build themselves up early. Yes and no? Boil Release is more chemicals and shit, but we can use a specif form of white base, while crazyface could use boil release to create a green acidic chemical for his jutsu. So yes we're locked on a specific unnamed base we can use due to boild release, but we might be able to learn how to make something else in the future. Even if not though, our white base is already a pretty solid foundation for some terrifying jutsu.

Shooting out a bunch of the normal looking mist in the area is a pretty good idea. Sarada shouldn't know about our boik release so she'll assume we're just trying to obscure the area. Then boom, her eyes start hurting like hell. Hard to use a sensory based jutsu if your eyes hurt way too much to even open. Use that initial opportunity to take her down in a definitive strike while she's distracted and we could potentially win a minute. Of course that's if it went perfectly

Still doesn't mean it's not a good trick to use against her. After all, if there's a counter to it, I'd rather figure out against her than against someone who *really* wants us dead.

Also, if we can anticipate that she's *going* to counter it, we can predict her actions. Let's use her shadowruns against her. Problem is, we haven't been shadowrunning her back, so we don't know how much of her shadowrunning is genuine or memetic.

Either way, we should think of some obvious/effective counters to our own technique.

Wind jutsu could blow it away.
Fire jutsu could evaporate it. Fire jutsu could also set the playing field on fire, thus limiting our movement options. Even if she can't see us, she'll know we can't be inside the fire--unless we *can* because we're motherfucking Takeshi, and we use that tactic a lot too.

Then there's that one Earth jutsu that lets you burrow. Burrowing is such a good skill, we should try learning it someday.

Maybe trick her by using the mist jutsu and when she is in it switch to using the soap one? Then again that relies on her staying inside the mist which I doubt she will do unless we back her into a corner.

Through all of this, your opponent hasn't taken her eyes off of you once. She slowly folds her glasses and tosses them into the grass near the memorial stone, at her Dad's feet.

Sasuke turns. "They're really popular, huh?"

Her stance is for throwing the hardest shots possible, while still remaining fundamentally sound.

Naruto sighs. "This wasn't at all how I expected this to go, but I guess it's fine. Ready, set, go!"

Neither you or Sarada opt to move from your positions. You bob in place lightly. You notice that she hasn't activated her Sharingan yet. Perhaps she doesn't see you as a reasonable threat, yet?
