Previously on Shadowrun AU...

You are William Grimm, Human Adept and recently baptized as "Fenris". You've recently arrived in Seattle after a six month stint on a smuggling/fishing trawler, the Pacific Dawn when you were apprehended by Seattle's Knights Errant. Accused of armed robbery you definitely did not commit, you were thrown into a cell alongside three of your "accomplices". Jules "Mercury" Crowley, motormouth extraordinaire and Shaman. SS, self-proclaimed best rigger in all of West Coast and owner of Brynhildr, a heavily modified GMC Bulldog. And last but not least, a mysterious, lithe redhead who call herself 'Mustang', who can also vault 12 feet and you suspect to be another Adept like yourself.

You met the Johnson in a dive-bar in the Redmond Barrens. He gave you the skinny, a milkrun retrieving a commlink from Oxycode, a small-time drug dealer, part-time pimp, and overall street scum. Barring an incident involving de-jawing a ghoul and cracking some skulls, it went pretty smoothly. In a night, you've made some nice nuyen, grave-robbed Oxycode's gun and extra commlink, and Crowley brought you all to Penumbra Station to celebrate.

Missing second paragraph

Soon after, all of you were sprung by an attorney, Ms. Annabeth "Imaginary" Goldsmith on bail. She explains that a certain client of hers is requesting assistant on a job, but her usual help were unavailable. Sensing a set-up, you decide to leave at the mention of Goldsmith's law firm, Wolfram & Hart. She however, managed to draw you back in at the mention of Gabriel, which left you in a foul mood. Your newfound companion, Crowley convinces you to play along for now. And so you all head out to the meeting Goldsmith arranged with Mr. Johnson.

You wake up drenched in sweat on a king-sized water bed. As your hand clenches the silk sheets, you try to slow down your hyperventilation. The memory of your nightmare still remained the same as before in the S O Ybucks; A jungle on fire, people screaming, and a glowing Valkyrie at the end.

As you calm down, you look around the room you're in. It has what you assume is real wooden furniture, a closet with one of its doors askew, and very stained velvet loveseat. Definitely well above a mid-management's wage-slave means. It looked like a rampaging para-critter was passing through. You can hear the sounds of hot water splashing and a woman humming from behind one of the ceiling-tall doors, most likely the bathroom.

You wrack your head about what happened last night.

You remember heading to a club called Penumbra Station with the crew.

You remember seeing Crowley greeting, getting punched, and a full frenching from the bartender there.

You also remember Crowley handing you mugs and shots whenever the glass goes empty.

The last thing you remember is flirting with someone and barely got into a Gridcab with said person.

You decide to collect your gear while waiting. You also think that you definitely need a shower too, but you don't want to startle whomever's in the shower.

As you pick up your stuff, you began to see a pattern of it. It was mostly tossed when you were undressing and you remember only taking your sidearm and knife when you left for Penumbra. The living room is less of a mess than the bedroom, but it's definitely lived in and you can see a couple of scuff marks on the furniture and someone's ammo belt hanging on a the ceiling fan.

Your commlink displays a time and date, 1725, March 4th, 2075. Your contact list is a lot longer now, with your newfound crew and a few unfamiliar names added to it. You also saw that someone must have taken a few pictures, showing that you all definitely threw a wild party.

As you looked through your commlink, the sound of hot water stops and a very tanned Formori Troll walks out of the bathroom. After rubbing her hair with a towel, she looks surprised at you being awake but quickly recovers. She strides over to you and smiles, "Afternoon, lover." She then plants a big wet kiss on your lips.

A surprise ambush on you, to be sure. But as they say, the best defense is overwhelming offense. Her eyes widen at your intensity. A few seconds later, she slackens and begins to get into it.

Despite being a foot taller and more, you began to slightly push her down into the sofa. After a pleasurable minute or fifteen, you let up, the only reason being that you're out of breath. She too gasps for air, her cybernetic arms stroking through your hair. "Down, boy," she says."If you were wide awake, ya shud've join me ta have a shower, luv."

"I didn't want to startle you," you answer.

She giggles, "Aww, ya won't. Silly, boy. Ya wee Elf friend says he'll be picking you up attabout 6ish." Spouting a big, toothy grin, she asks "Ready for round two?"

"Woof!" was the last thing you barked before you were buried underneath 500lbs of muscle, cyberware, and delicious curves in the right places.

Much, much later

It was 6.30pm when you finally came down to the lobby, spouting several love bites around your neck and collarbone. You see Crowley's lighting up a cigarette and judging by the ashtray next to him, he's been here quite awhile.

"Sorry, I lost track of time." You apologized as you approach him.

A gentleman doesn't kiss and tell, so you try to deflect. "Where we headed?" Yo ask.

Crowley takes a long drag before putting out his cigarette. "Renton, mate. It's a place, courtesy of a...shall we say very grateful lady friend." He starts heading for the exit and you catch up. "Mustang and SS are already there. We're going to decide how to sell the extra commlink we picked up from yesterday's last run."

'Oh, before I forget," Crowley rifles through his pockets before taking out a paper wrapped credstick. He then tosses it to you, "Last night's bill and your credstick. You went pretty wild right at the end, so it might be higher than expected. I'll get us a cab." He speeds up, almost in haste.

You open the receipt. Alongside a pretty staggering amount of alcohol you bought, there was also damages listed in it, which includes stage repairs and a broken mic stand.

Mysterious objects, no matter how small, have a certain gravity, like tiny, super-dense planets. They have a way of drawing the eye, and drawing the hand. This is certainly true of the matte black, lime-green trimmed Hermes Ikon commlink sitting on top of the hefty, s o y kaf-stained kitchen counter. Even the least tech savvy of you have been tempted to pick it up, fidget with it, try to understand its mysteries. Not just out of idle curiosity—Mr. Johnson said it might be valuable, but not to him. That means it might be valuable and dangerous, a combination that makes you want to turn into a way to creds, and fast. The first step is finding a buyer. But how?

You bring a hand towards your face, trying to sooth your bruised jaw. Crowley on the hand, has placed an icebag over his left shiner, a little mark you're proud of. SS is groaning, clutching his gut, courtesy of laughing too loud at the sight of you and Crowley the aftermath of the fight you had once you've reached, and then getting a gut punch from Mustang for disturbing her meditation.

"So, any ideas?" You ask.

Coming out of his little private grumble, "I could reach out to my contacts. Some of them could check it out, though it might cost a little."

"Any other ideas?" You reply. Crowley justified last night expenses to you from the amount of contacts you've made. Still though, you're a little sore from the amount you spent.

SS goes for his s o y kaf, "We could go to Crime Mall in Puyallup. Someone there might be able to take a crack at it."

Mustang just shrugs. You get the feeling she hasn't spend enough time in Seattle prior to this to have contacts.

What do?

Tiga might be of help in this, you thought.

As you thumb the call button on your commlink, you see Crowley and SS debating on the merits of using contacts or blind-running at Crime Hall. Mustang on the other hand, goes to the living hall and performs a sword kata.

A few moments later, your call connects.

"Oye, mi beratna Grimm!" A plump Oni wearing a tacky Hawaiian shirt answers with a smile. "Or is to nem Fenris now?"

"Nem mi still Grimm to you, mi komeng." you answer. "Listen, Tiga. I need a favor."

"Ha, come to mi kapawu! You know the pelésh and mi take out da rowm. Bring a kopeng along, ya? Mi want see keting tor kopeng are."

You're thinking of bringing Mustang along. You'd like to know her better since she has revealed very little beside being very, very good with a blade.

"I know a guy." You say aloud, "I think he can help us identify what makes this commlink potentially valuable. And I'm bringing Mustang as backup." You turn towards her in the living hall, "You don't mind, do you?"

Mustang sheaths her katana and just nods. She then proceeds towards the main doors.

"Is she always like this?" You give Crowley a puzzled look

He replies, "As far as I know, yes. Probably the reason why I heard she's never last long in a crew. It's your call. Meanwhile, I'm gonna hit my contacts either way to see whether Oxycode knows anything at all."

"And I'm heading to Puyallup either way. Gonna find a new accessories for Brynhildr." Interjects SS.

You nod and stand up. "Alright, omae. We'll meet back here again before midnight. Call if anything comes up or goes wrong, omae."

"Teaching your grandpa to suck eggs now, innit mate?" teases Crowley as you walk towards the exit.

SS interrupts your reply, "He's trying to say you're old, ya English pix. Old man like you should take it easy."

You leave the house right as the argument between the two explodes again.

The ride from Renton to Everett was awkward to say the least. Mustang stayed silent through and through. And the cab driver who took the silent tension to talk about rogue UCSA generals working for the Azzies against Amazonia. You almost release a sigh of relief when you finally arrived.

As the cab drives off, you look at Mustang a little closer this time. She's pretty tall for a norm, with her red hair, fair skin, and lithe body frame. You'd never suspect that she would be able to vault twelve feet into the air just using a wall as a base. Noticing you staring, Mustang looks at you in askance.

"...Right...Umm...This way" you stammer out. You quickly turned on your heels and walk straight to the nearby docks. As you do so, Mustang catches up, matching your pace and following your lead.

Trying to break the silence, you ask, "So...you like blades huh?"

"No need for bullets." She says softly. You almost didn't catch it, and slightly surprised that she spoke two more words than she did last night. She then flows ahead of you and shows you a Combat Knife, "Your blade." You unconsciously reached for your own, and then realized that it's not there and she's holding it.

"Too unbalanced." She twirls the knife in a spectacular 8 figure, "Better for stabs & cuts." And she hands you back your Combat Knife.

"You must really like blades then." You say as you sheath your knife. "You didn't speak as much previously."

"No, not shy." Mustang replies as she retakes her position by your side. "Just don't trust Crowley"

You turn your head towards her, "What's that supposed to..." "Mi beratna Grimm!"

You hear a loud, familiar voice interrupts you before a pair of arms wrapped around you and lifts you into the air.

Massaging your ribs, you steady yourself. "You know how much that hurts, Tiga."

"Give us the deets," you asked.

Tiga sighs, "Manatu is still missing."

"Good riddance. Anything else?" You immediately reply.

"Beratna! How could you? He is your komeng!" exclaims Tiga in anguish"

"Friend? Lil bastard tried to bleed me dry!" Memories of weeks of torments comes to mind, culminating in Tiga having to separate you from Manatu.

"Don't say it like that, beratna. Manatu cares about you. If he didn't, he wouldn't have bothered at all." chides Tiga.

"Couldn't you get your men to do it?" You ask.

"Na, beratna. They already went home to their families. Mi cannot tear them away from their precious time with their family. Besides, Manatu would not care to respond to any of them."

You thought about it awhile.

"...Toss in two bottles of your rowm. Your private stock, mind you. And you owe me one."

"You drive a hard bargain, beratna. A hard but fair one. You can pick up the rowm once you're back, ke? Tiga spits into his hand and extends it.

"Done." you say as you do the same and shakes his hand.

"Last time I saw him, he was by the beach by the docks, beratna."

You gesture towards Mustang to leave as well. Once you're out on the main deck, Mustang looks at you puzzled.

You take a deep breath, "Manatu is murder on wings. Delights in stealing the crew's lunch, especially if it's Special Saturday when we get special fare." You sigh heavily, "We need to buy some bait to lure him out. Don't look him in his eye, else he'll try to gouge it out."

As you walk down the gangway, you remembered one crucial detail, "Oh, before I forget to tell, Manatu is a great, dirty, thievin', sadistic, albino Stormcrow."

"Maanaatu! Come out you drekk-stained bird!" You feel ridiculous waving a rat-on-a-stick at night on a beach. Mustang's however isn't phased by this, even making waving said stick and imitating a crow call graceful and beautiful by comparison.

Despite enjoying the sea breeze and the "sights", you can't quite take the pitying gazes of some of the harbor restaurant patrons that they are giving you. Fortunately, you heard the faint and familiar squawking nearby. You whistled at Mustang and heads towards the source.

In an alleyway you can see a violently shaking devil rat cage, with a familiar pale white ball of fat stuck in the entrance. The source of the panicking and painful squawking, Manatu evidently got himself into quite a pickle. Especially with a small person swearing while trying to pull him out by the leg.

As you approach closer, the small person jumps deeper into the alley while grabbing the cage, turning to face you both.

"Hissss...Wyatt's!" A small high pitch voice rings out, coming from a child with cat ears poking out of their raven-black hair, them clutching tightly onto the cage and jostling Manatu. You can't tell whether the child's a boy or a girl.

"Hey now, Wyatt. We don't want to trouble you. That drekk-stained bird belongs to a good friend of mine. Now fun at it is to watch you cook that bloody piece of drek, I still gonna need it in one piece. " You say, adding, "Missing one or twenty feathers."

Wyatt still doesn't budge and continues to hiss at you.

You notice that despite them hissing, their eyes are constantly locked on to your rat-on-a-stick. You test that theory by moving it slowly left and right, and is vindicated by their head following the stick and a slightly drool coming from their mouth.

"Hey, how about we make a barter? That fuzzball for this." You wiggle the stick in front of them. Wyatt was dazed for awhile. and then quickly shake it off.

The cat shapeshifter opens their free hand to you.

They want extra, you thought. "Ok, you want 5 sticks more?"

They shake their head and rub their fingers together.

"50¥?" You ask. They still don't budge.

"500¥??" You ask incredulously. The shapeshifter frantically bobs their head up and down.

You don't really like spending 500¥ on a stupid drekking bird, dear though it is to your friend.

"Look, kiddo. That drekkin' bird's not worth that much to me. How about in addition to my friend's stick, I'll give you 200¥? Deal?" You ask.

Suddenly, your vision's filled with with cage said drekkin' bird cawing indignantly at you.

You immediately dodge while bending over backwards, barely missing it, and smelling bird drek.

As you stand up again, you look around for that drekking cat, ready to kick their ass. You see them hiding behind Mustang's leg chewing on two rat-on-a-sticks, while Mustang is holding her hand to her mouth, barely holding in her laughter. Which sounds like spring rain to you.

Meanwhile, Manatu is cawking like mad and shaking all around.

"Drekking cat, filthy sack of para-critters, mangy little bastard...", you mutter under your breath. Salvaging what's left of your dignity, you dust yourself off, checking for any bird drek on you (and finding none), picked up the cage and a shrilling Manatu, you stride back to the docks.

Tiga wasn't there when you arrived, so Mustang dragged you by your jacket collar to a nearby Stuffer Shack to wait with both Manatu and Wyatt in tow.

You're sitting by the open air tables, with Wyatt purring with a full belly on Mustang's lap while Manatu snoring from the leftovers he had been given. The smog isn't so heavy by the sea, and if you can squint as hard as you can, you might see a star or two in the night sky.

Your commlinks starts to ring. Picking it up, you see Tiga calling you. "Oye, Tiga. Good news, we found Manatu."

You are now back inside Tiga's quarters, sipping on another kaff grog. Tiga was a little bit upset that Manatu was still stuck in the devil rat cage, but took on a big toothy smile as he rips open the cage with his bare hands. Manatu tries to escape but was smothered by Tiga before he could. "Oh, my poor Manatu... Why to'd go and try eat that nasty food, ya? To know Tiga will cook more for to."

Manatu caws in distress, before finding the leverage to escape. He groggily flew into Mustang's bosom, emitting a low gurgle and seemingly in distress from barely escaping a fatal suffocation. Mustang pets Manatu consolingly. And then you swore to your dying days the drekking bird looked you in the eye and gave you a smirk saying,"I got to handle these heavenly breasts before you, loser with a capital L."

Mother drekking fucking rat bastard on wings. You're already day-dreaming about the day you get to roast the fucking winged rat with a flamethrower.

"Ya, beratna. We need to get down to busy-ness." Tiga's low tone voice breaks you from your flight of fancy.

"True. What you got for us, bossmang?"

Tiga takes out the Ikon commlink you gave him earlier, "This commlink belongs to one Seth Dietrich, apparently a superstar G-wala from the FBI. He got caught up in sum ting walowda, walowda bad. Lotsa mang died for dis, beratna." Here, Tiga tosses you a data chip and the Ikon commlink. "Na! Don't look at it here!" He interrupts you as you try to insert the data chip into your own commlink.

"Get to sum pelésh séfe and secure. Be walowda, walowda careful. Mi did not feed to just so mi can outlive to, beratna. To pochuye mi ke?"

You give Tiga a surprise hug, "Mi pochuye, bossmang kapawu. And taki for your help, Tiga. I wouldn't know what I'd do without you."

Wyatt was inconsolable when they found out Mustang and you were leaving. They were hugging Mustang tightly, crying "No, no, no!", tears and snot overflowing. It took several attempts from Mustang and Tiga to de-latch Wyatt. Only after a small whisper and a pinky promise from Mustang, and a large bowlful of assorted sweets taken by Tiga from gods know where, did Wyatt finally calmed down. Tiga promised to take care of Wyatt. "It be like raising mi kids again, beratna. It's no issue, mi will treat Wyatt like setara mali mi." A sad mood came over him, a sad memory that hides behind his jolly demeanor. But the cloud soon pasts, and Tiga Solomon is again the happy-go-lucky smuggler you know.

Tiga and Wyatt waves goodbye when you and Mustang entered the cab, Wyatt especially more furiously. On the way back to Renton, Mustang resumed her stoic facade, though you could pick up she was a little sad parting from Wyatt too soon.

Seth Dietrich grabbed this file called “Operation Daybreak” from the safehouse of one of Brackhaven’s high-ranking bully boys. If it’s real, it’s beyond damning. I’ve heard that Dietrich uploaded it to a VPN called JackPoint, and they’ve just been sitting on it.

Word on the street that it has something to do with the fires started in OU a couple years back. Lot of the OU blamed Brackhaven for it, but nothing came of it.

It's a conspiracy theory file floating around on the shadownets. It alleges that before the Proposition 23 vote, Brackhaven was going to assassinate a bunch of OU community leaders, then hire a bunch of runners to frame a crime wave on the Underground to justify cracking down on them harder with Knight Errant.

It's being totally discredited via shadownets and VPNs, so it hasn’t penetrated the public consciousness yet. If Brackhaven could be definitively tied to it, it might mean the end of his career.

= = Special Agent Seth Dietrich = =

FBI Special Agent, Fed hacker, real boy scout, paladin in white, and all around bad ass troubleshooter for the law. Seth Dietrich's ex-UCSA Army CID, made his bones infiltrating this gang of Matrix thieves, Code-Snatchers, that was stealing airliners out of Sea-Tac back in '70.

Dietrich was working with the Ork Underground controversy last year. Hit the shadows hard to bury Brackhaven. He was teamed up with a whole Shadowrunner crew. He’d gone native. He was wandering around with an ork decker named Tauren, a shaman called Three Feet, a street sam named Bingo, and a rigger named Dice. Then those guys got geeked, hard. Their bodies found floating in Puget Sound.

Dietrich's wasn't found though. They’re all dead now, except for Tauren.

>Cont.
>>
>>2806109
So my instinct say we should sell to the enemies because he is a dick, or get rid of it quickly by just posting it on the matrix from a burner
>>
>>2806120
But the file is already on JackPoint and other shadownet sites where it’s being discredited as conspiracy theory shit. The file has no evidence to actually link Brackhaven to it.
>>
>>2806120
Both options are risky and stupid but cooperating with this Blackhaven fellow seems even more risky and stupid
>>
>>2806123
Oh, I was thinking the conspiracy theories were about it existing, not that it was actually found, he said the file was just sitting there.

Because if this thing is worthless and public knowledge I don't see how it could be dangerous. Unless the conlink can tie the FBI agent, the file and Blackhaven.

I think i didn't get something
>>
>>2806116

Addendum: Oye, beretna Grimm. I've got sum meng walouda discreet to check your commlink. He then sweeps his hand towards the Ikon commlink, "And that, me lovely mates, is a 20kt political nuke that would level Seattle just as easily as a literal nuke would. That thing would make the Night of Rage look like a fucking picnic."

You ask, "So who would be interested in drekking this Brackhaven? Who would pay to see him squirm?"

Crowley lights a cigarette, taking a long drag on it as well. "Everyone important enough to speak in hush tones," he says. 'Though I can only think of only two AAA corps who would pay top nuyen for this paydata, Ares and MCT."

"Why Ares and MCT?"

"Brackhaven is Ares' man through and through. It's how the pawns got the security contract of Seattle. Ares has a very vested interest in making sure this doesn't gets out without it being on their terms. On the other hand, MCT is Ares' biggest political competitor and this paydata could be their way in to making a bigger footprint on Seattle."

SS speaks up, "We could always just sell back to Brackhaven tho. What?" He says while everyone is giving him a "for-real?" look, "Brackhaven's the biggest loser here if this gets out. He's going to pay even more nuyen for this not to leak."

"OU" Mustang says.

SS interjects, "Ork Underground would also be interested, but considering their finances and bulldrek about how trogs should always give back to society, the paydata wouldn't sell as well."

Suggesting MCT, going to Ares (Or to Brackhaven directly) with this is a good way to get us geeked fast.

mostly because I don't want to get involved with AAAs too. even if OU pays less
>>

I dunno about MCT. Mitsuhama is pretty much a Yakuza Group all on its own, even more so than any other Japanacorp. They’re not well thought of, in the shadows or by the other corps.
>>
>>2806309
>Get into contact with the AAA corps
>Reach out to the Ork Underground
give to both of em, split the info up and sell half to OU other half to MCT
>>
>>2806330
I can't blame you one bit. Normally I wouldn't either, but I think they can help us here.

The OU get a hold of this, people are going to start asking how. MCT show up with it, people assume it was one of their teams. We make anonymity one of our terms, let them take some heat in exchange for the data. Maybe the pay is a little lower, but Ares is off our back at least for the time being.
>>
>>2806330
Even if the OU pays less in terms of cash, we have to consider their non-financial payment: services and contacts, access to safehouses, and other non-concrete forms of payment.

There’s also the question of how many times we can sell this data to interested parties that have mutual plans.
Like MCT, OU, Lone Star, and the FBI all want to hit Brackhaven and Knight Errant; maybe we can sell to all of them (at a discount, of course).
>>
>>2806309
>>Write-In
What about Lone Star and the FBI? Sure, the Star got kicked out of Seattle, but it was because of the riots and unrest that they lost the contract. I think the Star still has an axe to grind against them.
>>
>>2806309
Brackhaven and Ares are definitive NOs. If we sell them the information that incriminates him and them by proxy, we become a loos end. Sure nobody would believe us without proof, but I'd still kill us, just to make sure. Especially since even if we sell them the information they can't be sure we didn't make copies. We may be able to blackmail them, but honestly there is just no way to sell this Intel to someone who wants it gone, without painting a target on our face. MCT and Orks are fine, maybe even both at the same time (Anonymously of course), double paycheck time. They won't have a reason to kill us.
>>
>>2806362
The orks probably wouldn’t mind not having this info exclusively, but MCT might. Being a AAA, they will expect exclusive access to this paydata.
>>
MCT may have a reason to kill him yes, you guys are talking about an AAA, who said they will want to expose Blackhaven, they might just use it as leverage to get him to do what they want. and that makes us a loose end too

our safest bet is to sell to someone who will expose the data pronto. the sooner the data is out the safer we are because we will not be a loose end anymore, we will be just one of the billions of people that know about it
>>
>>2806309
Reach out to the Ork Underground
Fuck it they can get ganked for thr information
>>
>>2806376
I mean, I bet MCT will think it's better to use Blackhaven for their own agenda then have him exposed and them having to find and place one of their own stooges in his place. It's much more easy and efficient to just use Blackhaven where he is and kill us to make sure his secret is safe

OU is our safest bet, even if they pay less, and we will have a friend where we really need it, on the streets not on some arcology somewhere
>>
>>2806355
"What about Lone Star and the FBI?" You ask.

Crowley sighs, "Not safe. Lone Star might just send a team to bring us in to force us to testify, and then we're really be geek'd faster. And I'm saying this as the bloody mage. Brackhaven definitely got informants in the FBI. Else, this Dietrich wanker wouldn't be working offbooks."
>>
>>2806345
I wouldn't mind something like the Star, or even the feds. I just want it to be someone that means that no one is too interested in looking at how they got the information.
>>
I say we reach to OU first and foremost

If we call one of the AAAs and tell them what we have we won't be able to put them on hold while we explore our options.

Who would've thought uh? All this shadowrunning in a shadowrun quest

We could also hit up some of the other fringe groups, like antifa, as well as looking for Dietrich’s friends at the Bureau who might want to take a crack at it (after we get paid by the OU and Brackhaven’s miles in the FBI won’t be able to help him since it’ll all be in the screamsheets anyway).

Reaching out to the Ork Underground is a no-brainer. It's a lot safer, makes you lots of new friends, and won't be geek'd for being loose ends.

"SS," you said. "Do you have contacts with the Ork Underground?"

"Why, you racist breeder?" SS indignantly replies, "You think I know people with the OU just because I'm an Ork?? Why not ask that ponce of an English cracker?!"

"Hey!" Crowley interjects, "That's "FABULOUS" English cracker ponce to you, chummer."

Mustang just rolls her eyes.

You just plow on through, "Well, you have them or not?"

Silence stretches across the kitchen like a taut trampoline.

"...Yeah, I know a guy," relents SS. "That still don't make it right."

Crowley replies, "Sorry, you have to speak up, omae. I can't quite hear you with that pity dick in your mouth."

"Fuck you, ya English pix."

Crowley turns to you, "I'm going with SS, just to make sure he doesn't accidentally tell more than he should."

"Trust me now, do ya?" says SS "Not afraid, I'd put a bullet in your head?"

"Please, outside of rigging, you couldn't hit the target even it was on your lap giving you fellatio."

You drown out their argument as they ready themselves to head on out.

You decide to re-confirm a few things with Crowley before he leaves with SS.

As you approach the living hall, you can see Crowley crouching over a few duffel bags. You recognized one of it as yours.

Crowley speaks while still rifling through one of the bags, "Yeah, mate. We brought your gear from Britney. You can choose one of the rooms upstairs to rest, there's at least four of them and none of the doors are locked."

"You gonna be alrite with SS?" you ask.

"No worries, mate. SS' barks worst than his bite. Besides, it's fun watching him squirm a bit."

You almost grunt in agreement before catching yourself, "Try to get us a good deal, Crowley. Just bring one of the fragments so we can prove we have it. At least make them make a down payment, half upfront, and the remainder after we transfer the intel. Oh, and it doesn't all have to be in creds, omae."

Crowley gives a short laugh, "Ha! What I told you about sucking eggs, mate. It's not my cherry run. I'll bleed the OU dry before you know it. Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta take a number one." Crowley stands up and walks away.

You decide to check up on Mustang, she didn't say much during the meeting. And you get the feeling she's worried about something.

She did went off to the yard area last time you saw her. When you arrive by the eternity swimming pool, you see her making a few laps in it. Her clothes in a pile by the poolside, and evidently not wearing a lick of anything else.

Mustang's body is pretty athletic, with a hint of a six pack. Now that she's in her birthday suit, you can see she's covered in quite a fair number of distinct scars, some of it claw marks, other bullet wounds. Mustang's definitely not a stranger to violence.

As you stare transfixed upon her, Mustang's got up from the pool, done with her swimming lap. You catch a glimpse of a fiery red rose on a green stem with two leaves, situated directly on the leg near the groin. Her only tattoo and definitely is meaningful to her. Mustang wraps a towel, too small thanks to her chest and barely covering past the waist.

She looks at you with an eyebrow raised.

"I didn't mean to disturb you....But you seem worried back there," You say while trying to act unfazed. "Is this about Wyatt? They're in good hands, you know."

Mustang shakes her head, "No, it's not Wyatt." She takes another towel and dries her auburn hair.

"City is un-restful," she says. "Like a hunted deer herd. Tensed and ready to scatter"

Sounds pretty cryptic and ominous, you thought. "Well, whatever happens, it will be alright. You got my back after all."

Mustang gives you a small smile. She gathers up her clothes and gear and approaches you. You pick up the scent of lily and lavender. "Be on your guard, she whispers in your ear. "Things may not be in our favor."

She saunters back into the mansion. Leaving you alone with your thoughts as you hear Brynhildr driving out into the night.

= = 0228Hrs. March 5th, 2075 = =

You open your eyes. The digital readout on the clock says 02:28 AM. Feeling thirsty and a bit famished, you head down to the kitchen to find something to eat and drink. The garage is still empty, Crowley and SS still aren't back yet. You're not worried yet. They would've called if anything went south. As you rummage through the fridge, you hear an unfamiliar ringtone, and the thrum of a vibrating commlink. A glance in the direction of the stolen Hermes Ikon reveals it jittering its way along the counter top with each pulse of vibration.

The call comes from a restricted commcode; your curiosity gets the better of you before it stops ringing, and you seize the chirping, buzzing ‘link and answer.

“This is Special Agent Seth Dietrich,” a digitally-masked voice says. He sounds tired and tense. “I believe you have something of mine. Actually, I’m absolutely sure of it. I want it back.” Dietrich’s words are rapid, as though he’s eager to have his business done and be off the line as soon as possible. “Believe me, I know that in this city, possession is eleven tenths of the law. I’ll pay. 100,000¥, no questions asked.

"The OU are stone-walling us. Said some bulldrek about wanting to verify the data and having to wait at least twenty four hours for them to approve the deal."

You rub your forehead at the sudden complication, "Is there even a good news?"

"There is. They're willing to pay up to the upper half of a five figure sum, in addition giving us access to their info network, and shadowrunning services."

"I got a call from our mutual missing friend offering 100k¥."

Crowley whistles, "That's a princely sum, mate. Best to discuss it in person."

"Agreed," you say. "Back at the safehouse?"

"No, somewhere public at dawn. I'll message you the deets." Crowley hangs up.

Crowley has you and Mustang rendezvous with him in a breakfast and grill diner in Auburn. Luckily for you, your Gridcab driver was savvy enough to drive around the security checkpoints the KE has along the way. You gave him a hefty tip for such a service. Creds: - 50¥

When you both arrive at Table & Apron's Diner, Crowley's waves you from the top left corner booth of the diner.

You noticed that SS isn't there with Crowley. "Where's SS," you inquire.

Crowley finishes up his eggs. "Resting in the Battlewagon. Got his wind knocked out a bit by a particularly feisty go-ganger." He lights up his cigarette, "So, explain to me exactly what this "Dietrich" told you."

And so you repeat again the event you had early morning.

"It's a set-up," You say. "No way is a rogue FBI agent has that kind of cash on hand and giving us a location that we have to be in without time to scout it out. It's classic bait."

Crowley frowns, "Not necessarily. The Fort Lewis Zoo is open to the public and is guarded by UCSA MPs. If the person who called you was legit Dietrich, he's also going to be worried about getting geek'd by Brackhaven's hit squad. The zoo is at least in the public eye and with less than 24 hours, no way anyone would have time to case the site and set up an ambush."

"How's security?" You ask.

"There's at least two dozen MPs on duty, mostly equipped with last gen Predators. Main entrances have Mad scanners so no joy getting our heavy guns through. The MPs usually patrol in twos and switch up during lunch hour. However, there's at least 3 service tunnels that we can use to bypass if we can hack the alarms there."

Crowley bottoms out his kaf, "The zoo has a UCSAF security spider monitoring any Matrix intrusions, making it an almost impossible challenge for the average decker. And that's the good news.

"That's the good news?" You exclaim.

"Yeah. You see, Fort Lewis District is directly under the authority the UCSA military as part of Seattle's defense forces. What that means is that the Pawns don't have jurisdiction there. The bad news is that in event of an emergency, such as a gun fight in the middle of the zoo or alarms tripping, Fort Lewis is at most 10 minutes away from sending in their weekend warriors as HTR teams."

She stays silent, even after the waitress had brought your last breakfast orders. Then she speaks in a low tone, "No difference between the Buyers. But the longer we wait, the more dangerous it gets."

Crowley scratch his five o'clock shadow, "Well you've already met Boudi. She's a vet street Sam and would be valuable muscle, no pun intended. "Wesser's" too much of a neo-anarchist even for the likes of my taste, but he's one of the best Dekker I've seen so far on the West Coast. "Lancer" is a t-bird pilot, so she's our ride out if it all goes sideways and she's our biggest fire support."

"However, we're extremely short on liquidity at the moment, so we'll can only promise them a part of the loot. Twenty five percent is our limit, so we can only hire at most two people unless we can convince them to lower their asking rates."

"How about just cloning the data on the commlink and give them a copy each?"

"No joy. The OU said that they need the original commlink that can authenticate the data, and if this Dietrich is true as well, I suspect that both of them won't settle for anything less."

Depends on who we hire
Mustang and Mercury goes incognito watching our surroundings while we take SS as our "undercover" bodyguard. We hire one person with a air lift and another as a sniper providing over watch.

If we get that troll girl we can pair SS and Trolly as a pretend couple nearby.

We can set up and change the venue or location of the exchange. Either by comms or by us meeting him and then changing locations of where we make the exchange. We could also have a fake comms in case we are forced to fork over something at gunpoint.

How much exactly did the OU offer? This deal with Dietrich reeks of being shit and I wouldn't mind getting less to fuck Blackhaven over. Maybe it's too much shadowruns on my part but I'm positive that this Dietrich fellow is long dead and this guy is one of the interested parties, one that we may not like to deal with.

as for hired help, I would like more muscle, and the T-bird to extract us in case of emergency.

we offer 7,5k and go up to 10k max if they haggle, of course, they only get paid if the deal goes through.

that still leaves 20k for each of us and I'd feel a hell of a lot safer
>>
>>2808037
and we already know the location, so SS should buy the smallest, most inconspicuous bug drone he can get his hands on and scout the shit out off that place before we even think about setting foot there.
>>
>>2808037
The OU rep wouldn't commit to a hard sum, but he assured us it would be the upper half of five figures of nuyen. Your soft limit is 25k for two people, 30k for three if we can haggle low enough.
>>
>>2808051
ok,
Guys, so we can go up to 12,5k in negotiations with our backup.

as for OU, at this point, the only way I see them getting this comlink is if we tell Crowley to call them and say they have until 12:00 to pay for it or else we have another buyer set up. it's take it or leave it.
the pay out would be almost the same, OU would pay less but we wouldn't need backup, while if we wait for "Dietrich" I would gladly spend some money in backup to make sure we get out alive

I think I might be a little harsh on you guys so I'm going to explain in detail about Fort Lewis

>At least 24 UCSA MPs guarding the place
>A favorite haunt for soldiers on leave
>Red circles have at least 4 MPs stationed there
>Main Entrance has a MAD scanner
>MPs having roving patrols of 2-3 men visiting each themed site
>Fence is electrified, with sonic field to discourage flying para-critters from escaping

>Green circles are where service tunnels are located and secured with maglocks and anti-tamper systems
>Matrix Security is overseen by a host in an office just outside the main entrance
>Host is monitored in real time by a UCSAF security spider, who will immediately report any detected intrusions to Fort Lewis
>Fort Lewis has HTR teams on stand-by, 10 minutes max away from zoo
>Zoo is part of a larger parkland that is mostly wilderness.

>Meet is at Purple circle, which is the basilisk tunnels and exhibits

Backup you can call on short notice (Max Limit: 25k for 2 hires, 30k for 3 hires)
>"Boudicca," Street Sam and veteran shadowrunner
>"Wetterfrosch", Neo-Anarchist dekker
>"Lancer", T-bird rigger
>>
>>2808080
I still like calling "Boudi" and "Lancer". If drek hits the fan we can run hot with muscle and get the hell our off dogde by air.

How are we gettimg in? How's security to walk on the place? Can we use our fake license to at least pack something?

My plan is to walk in and close the deal like nothing matters, if someone attacks we call the T-bird with Boudi on it to supress fire, give aerial advantage and get us the hell out of there, whoever attacks us will have to deal with the military and I'd like to get out of there as fast as possible so we don't end up having to kill the soldiers, that is, if it's not they themselves attacking us. If the deal goes smothly( hah! Right...) we walk out of there holding hands and singing cumbaia and take our t-bird( we already paid for it so I want my goddamn ride) to buy us all ice creams.

Sounds good fellas?
>>
>>2808105
do we want to start shit with the MPs? Odds are we gonna have to off a few of em.
>>
>>2808105
>How are we getting in?
Through the main entrance, one of the service tunnels, hack the Zoo's security to get you guys in, or just bribe a wage slave to let you guys in through the employee's entrance.

>Can we use our fake license to at least pack something?
Yeah, but if you're caught packing heat, you might not have the proper licenses to back up your lies.
>>
>>2808110
Well, I would like to not kill them unless they are the ones trying to rob us. If they are just reacting to other people firing and don't know who are friend or foe I would like to not kill them and escape as fast as possible with the T-bird while the lady sam provides covering fire

>>2808111
As for entrance methods I would prefer if Crowley got us in through bribery of a wage slave. I don't want to touch the matrix since they have a trigger happy spider on it, thw guy doesn't even need to catch us red handed, if he senses something fishy he'll call for backup, so I would like to keep this op on meatspace
>>
We also need to put one of SS's drones inside as soon as possible. They should stay there just monitoring movement and keeping an eye if someone lingers too much or if people position themselves in places where theh could spring a trap
>>
>>2808105
>>2808116

I mostly agree with you, but that's because I can't come up with a better one right now. I still don't like this run one bit.

If you are planning on not getting in the matrix we have to think of a way to deny access to the other parties involved if things go bad, an EMP or something similar to fry cameras and sensors if we need to escape
>>
To summarize so far;

>Plan A
Reach out to OU. Move the deadline to 12.00pm, either they pay us now or we sell the data to Dietrich. If they don't bite, we move to Plan B

>Plan B
We enter Fort Lewis Zoo with SS on drone overwatch and Boudi on standby with the T-bird. Possible entry, we bribe one of the wage slaves to let us in through the employee entrance.

Is this accurate?
>>
>>2808148
I'm ok with this but I just realized the meet up is in a tunnel, how big is the tunnel and how "colapsable" is it? How long would it take for us to sprint from one side to the other?

Mustang will stay out of the tunnel, on the entrance that has a easier landing spot for the T-bird, to cover our exit route and tell us if there is movement outside.

Is Crowley supposwd to go in with us to make a deal or do we go in the tunnel alone?

Is this possible?>>2808145, get our hands on camera jammers or emp granedes?
>>
>>2808160
"The tunnel is less of an underground type and more of a canopy forming a roof type," Crowley stubs out another cigarette. "And the length is about 60 yards, give or take."

Dietrich never mentioned any other restriction other than being on time. Jammers are super duper expensive, illegal as hell, and you definitely won't be able to source one before the meet. EMP grenades don't exist, omae.
>>
Bringing in drones when there’s a security spider looking over the place is stupid. You think they won’t pick up the transmissions from the drone?
All you’re doing is announcing you’ve got an illegal drone in the area.

As for the MAD scanners, use ceramic or plastic weapons, or improvised weapons. Or see if someone can get us a Puzzler real quick.

And we’re a fucking adept, get some slap patches with fast-acting narcojet for non-lethal takedowns.
>>
>>2808179
Ask the others if they have a Puzzler or some other weapon that won’t get picked up by MAD. Ceramic combat knives or stone and plastic tomahawks.

Anyone got narcojet slap patches? Or just CC gases in general?
>>
>>2808073
The problem with giving OU an ultimatum like that is if this “Dietrich” turns out to be a trap, going back to the OU tells them we got burned by the other buyer and they can lower the price because we don’t have anyone else to sell to.
>>
>>2808190
Good to know, zero drones then.
Bout the us just strolling in unnarmed, I'm actually not against that course of action, my concern is if our armor would pass the scanner, and we are not going in this rodeo without armor.

We go in alone in the main entrance while mustang crowley and ss set up positions in the meeting area after getting in by bribe, with mustang covering the exit route.

This can work
>>
>>2808195
>Ask the others if they have a Puzzler or some other weapon that won’t get picked up by MAD. Ceramic combat knives or stone and plastic tomahawks.
Mustang draws a ceramic knife from her boot holster, twirls it around for a bit, and sheathes it.

>Anyone got narcojet slap patches? Or just CC gases in general?
"Sure, my contacts could source us some narco-patches. It's just going to cost us more if we're requesting some in a hurry."
>>
>>2808198
They can, but if they pick up and pay now we don't have to deal with what is definitely a trap
>>
>>2808209
So just sell to the OU. It’s easier and if this is really Dietrich he can use his own OU contacts and get his commlink back after they use it to take down Brackhaven. The FBI can still prosecute him with Dietrich’s commlink as evidence after it has been used to shred Brackhaven’s career.
>>
>>2808210
That's what I wanted on the first place, wait out for the OU, but this dietritch fellow put a time limit on us, and he got access to the comlink, I'm worried he can track the thing somehow or even burn it right under our noses
>>
>>2808208
Narco-patches are always useful. Might as well get a few.
We should be able to just go through the main gates with the patches. I would have liked to have a CC gas grenade in the form of a metal water bottle, but that will likely take too much time.
>>
>>2808218
Ok, we and Mustang can just walk in. What about Crowley and SS? Do we bribe the wage slave to get them in or don't even bother and let them sit this meeting out?
>>
>>2808205
Armor jackets aren't restricted, omae.
>>
>>2808220
>>2808218
I mean, they could come in on the t-bird if things get hairy but SS has been described as a crap shooter, and Britney won't be able to get in the Fort, so unless he has some armed drones to bring as cavalry I don't know what to do with him. Crowley is a mystery but he must at least know how to shoot
>>
>>2808220
What would they be doing on-site? No need for them to be there.
>>
>>2808220
"Oh don't worry about me getting in. I can sneak in a few foci past the guards, even if I don't have a gun."
>>
>>2808227
Good

That leaves only SS holding his dick. If he has armed drones he stays in the T-bird with Boudi and come in hot if we ask for assistance.

We, Mustang and Crowley get in through the main entrance, mustang waits by the tunnel entrance/LZ while We and Crowley deal with the guy. If shit is indeed fucked we run to the LZ while the t-bird comes in hot providing cover fire for our escape.

Sounds good?

One more question though. OU ultimatun, yay or ney?

This is what I wake up to.

No to plan A since its gonna make things go FUBAR if we can't reach an agreement and they decide to start shooting in a zoo which will drain our resources to deal with plan B in the same breath. That is assuming we were smart and separated the OU meeting location from the Deitrich one.

We should probably go with plan B since we already spent so much time trying to get some sort of meetup set up for it.

Plan C would be to call the whole thing off and maybe use proxy middlemen to make the trade offs for us.

I think we should try and change the immediate location or lead our buyer away from his chosen spot after we make contact.

After an eternity of arguments of the merits and demerits of either sticking with the Ork Underground or going with Dietrich's limited time offer, you all decided to go for the latter. In the event if it was a wash, the OU can also serve as a fallback option.

"Caveat being that we're alive to even collect it," murmurs Crowley as the waitress takes away the cleared breakfast plates.

You retort, "That's why we're going to need more hands in this. The Zoo is a nightmare to secure..."

You pull out your commlink, hitting Boudicca's commcode. Totally not being clingy, you try to justify to yourself. Purely a business call.

A few rings later, the line connects.

"Down, boy," Boudi teases. Her voice seems a little out of breath, "It's not 24 hours yet."

"Unfortunately it's business, Boudi." Your face heats up a little. "We could use a favor. Twelve and half percent cut and dinner is on me."

"Done."

"Done? You're not going to haggle higher?" You ask incredulously.

"I would've said yes at just wine and dining with you, lover boy." She teases you. "Send me the deets later." She then hangs up.

You both weren't exactly being quiet. Crowley's having a silent laughter. Mustang seems like she's barely holding it in herself.

You slide your 'link across the table to Crowley. "Let's you do better, omae," you grumble.

"Gladly." Crowley stretches out and pops his knuckles. "Watch a master at work, mate."

You flip him the bird as the elf waitress comes back. She's holding up a kaf pot, chewing and blowing gum. "Sorry to disturb you folks. Do you want a refill? It's freshly brewed."

"Yes please." You pass her your cup. So does Mustang and Crowley.

As she pours the steaming kaf, she asks, "Y'all from out-of-town now, are you?"

"Why, who's asking?" You say, slightly suspicious.

She hands you your cup, "Just me. The regulars usually order waffles, and your friend there," she points at Crowley, who's getting a bit animated whispering into the 'link. "He's the first I've seen ordering the ham and eggs."

"Well, he's special," you say. You sip on the steaming kaf. "Hey, this is pretty good."

"Thanks! It's my personal blend. I gotta serve the other customers. Y'all have a good day now." Mustang waves in appreciation at the waitress as she walks away.

Crowley puts down the 'link. "Lancer agreed. Yours truly, the special maestro, managed to lower her fee down to 6k¥" He makes a small bow. "No need to hold your applause."

"Frag off, Crowley. Jealousy is such an ugly thing. Especially on a twiggy little keebler," you grumbled again.

"TAKE COVER!" You screamed while pulling the waitress down and flipping the table for cover.

A hail of bullets sweep across the diner. You could hear screams of abject terror and pain.

Two of the men jumped through the shattered windows, while two others entered through the main entrance. Another burst through from the lavatory area.

The men looked like they just came out of a sci-fi horror trideo, with mis-matched cyberware and prosthetic limbs with bolted on blades. The two of them came directly after you, jumping across the debris.

In one swift motion, you drew your Ruger and fired once. The shot stopped one of them mid-charge, exposing a layer of dermal plating underneath. His buddy did not stop however, and you've managed to duck underneath his telegraphed razor swipe. In counter, you shot him too, the shot directly hitting him in the chest and exposing his dermal plating too.

Enraged, he extended hand spurs, three blades snickting out from between his knuckles. The other unleashed a blade from his palm and charges again at you.

You shoot your Ruger once again at the farther one, this time penetrating and hitting the heart. His buddy didn't faze and went for you anyway but missed and got stuck in one of the seating. Calmly, you drew your oversized knife and stab him in the eye, finally killing him.

With adrenaline still pumping, you look around for more targets. Mustang is currently in CQC with one of the other assailant, one of her knives has now extended into a spear. One of them lies on the floor, bleeding out from a neck wound while he vainly tries to stem the blood loss. Crowley on the other hand, has fried the one charging all the way from the lavatory with a lightning bolt. From the corner of your eye you see a man with a cyberdeck yelling, "GEEK THE FUCKIN' MAGE!"

There's still one guy left, you thought as you turn to assist Mustang.

Just as she makes a sweep using her spear and lobs off the last guy's head.

"Is everyone alright?" You ask.

You can hear a few groans coming from the civilians, which apparently most of them survived thanks to your warning. Mustang stabs the one ganger bleeding out on the floor with the spear, then just nods at you.

"Uglurgh!" You hear the sound of vomiting behind you. When turn to check on her, she's bent over, vacating her breakfast onto the seating. You rub her back, "It's alright now, take as long as you like."

"Oh, Mercury old boy, did you get nicked? No, I did not, mate. Came pretty close too. Need a hand, Mercury? Nah, I'm doing fine. Thank yee for your overwhelming concern. No need to check on ole' Mercury, eh?" Crowley grumbles in the background, dusting off his lined coat, and uses the seat as a support to get up.

Once the waitress slightly recovered, she immediately gave you a bear hug. "Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou...." She repeats over and over. You return it, saying, "No need to thank us. You did well enough on your own." In addition, you slip into her pocket a credstick. Creds: - 150¥

You can hear the sirens of Seattle KE approaching, just as SS' and Brynhildr came drifting to a stop in front of the diner. "Let's get out of here!" screams SS. Reluctantly, you pulled off the waitress and with the rest of the team piled into Brynhildr and sped off.

"....as you can see here, Auburn's popular diner, Table & Apron, was hit just this morning by six men, all heavily cyber-modified. Miraculously, there was only one casualty, day-shift manager Brian A. Cannaday. Anonymous sources say that this was a gang hit by the Human-supremacist group, "the Night Hunters", who was seeking revenge against the diner for "defiling human cuisine". KE officials have released a press statement, seeking the cooperation of three individuals who helped stop the attack. Next on Horizon News, Cyberware, how much is too much?"

Crowley turns off the TV. Thanks to Lady Luck and SS' driving, you all managed to slip the police cordon in Auburn and are now back in Crowley's safe-house in Renton. "What a load of drekk," he says. "The Night Hunters aren't just a meta-hating gang, they have ties to Brackhaven via being muscle for Humanis and other like-minded scum."

"And I bet that KE is looking for us not for "cooperation", but rather to stick us in their deepest, darkest cell in their fancy precinct and torture the drekk out of us to get to that damned commlink." SS adds.

You reply, "All the more reason to offload it at the Zoo, the commlinks too hot. Besides, it would be nice to at least have one of them alive to question." You raise your eyebrow at Mustang.

Mustang nonchalantly continues cleaning her blades. "No use. Bleeder lost vocal cords. Couldn't talk." She explains.

"Alright, no use crying over split milk." You say. "Let's go through the Zoo meet one more time."

"Crowley, could one of your contacts get one of the zoo staff to smuggle in our weapons?" You ask. "We're willing to bribe the man."

"On short notice? Sure, but it won't be cheap as per usual." Crowley replies.

"Ok, people. We have less than seven hours to show time. Check your gear, grab more ammo, and keep your wits about you. We're about to step into the dragon's den."

When SS dropped you and your crew at the Fort Lewis Zoological Gardens, it's a rare sunny day in Seattle, and bright yellow sunlight shines through the gauzy gaps in the curtain of clouds and industrial smog overhead. The zoo is busy, but not packed; the line moved quickly, the only hiccup was when a freckled and bored face was unsure of how to scan through Boudicca with her cyber-arms. Fortunately, she just smiled and presented her license as well as her ID as a former UCSA soldier. As she rejoins you, she winks at you while catching your hands in hers. Crowley bumps into one of the staff greeters, palming away the paper of where he stashed your weapons. Crowley gestures towards you all to begin following him into the zoo.

You pass byyoung couples on dates meander along, pointing at enclosures and giggling, and packs of smiling and laughing kids on school trips dart around the place, zipping from exhibit to exhibit with surging enthusiasm. There are plenty of ordinary animals, lions and tigers, enormous Asian elephants, antelopes, zebra, and giraffes, but stranger fare is also present. You see winged pegasi running in herds in their roofed grasslands enclosure, de-venomed eykyelebenle hanging lazily from the canopy of their artificial jungle habitat, a chitinous, emerald-armored wyrd mantis standing nearly two meters tall, and much more. Perhaps most impressive is the mated pair of phoenixes in their enormous, open-air enclosure, safely contained by sonic fences, twining around each other in flight, their fiery auras crackling with power. You don’t want to let your attention wander too much, so you keep your head down and make for your gear. Still, it’s probably a good idea to keep an eye on the wildlife here; some of these critters are dangerous predators, cages or not.

Your gear is safely stowed away in a refuse bin. Boudicca wears a custom lined coat, making it easier for her to conceal her and your Colt M23s.

= = Thirty Six Minutes Later = =

When you've finally arrived at the basilisk exhibit in the reptile house, the crowd has died down a bit, with the odd couple and family ooh-aahing the Basiliks. There you can pick out a lone man, waiting in front of the exhibit, wearing almost as much armor as you are. You're definitely sure this is the "Dietrich" you're all meeting.

Two things stick out about the man. The first is that you're definitely sure you've seen him before, being thrown out of the Screaming Banshee when you were going in to meet Mr. Johnson. He looked different then—his hair is combed shorter and tighter now, his eyes hidden behind round-lensed mirrorshades—but it’s the same guy. The second thing is that he looks more scared than you are. You get being nervous before a meet, but this guy doesn’t just look scared, he looks displaced. He also looks wary, as if he expects the 2.5-meter-long black-and-yellow lizards coiled around themselves and the foliage to come crashing through the glass to devour him, or the packs of noisy school kids to converge on him with hidden blades slashing. He definitely shows no hint of recognition as you cautiously approach. His face is composed; when you get a glimpse of his eyes, you see they look like doll’s eyes, cold and artificial. Remote, like the earth seen from far off in space.

“Seth Dietrich?” you ask.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he says, his voice subtly different from the one you heard on the phone. Not the voice itself, but the way he carries it, his inflection. “The name’s Armitage,” He cocks an eyebrow and suddenly seems more tense, more urgent. “But you seem to know something.” He grabs you by the lapels, but his harsh voice stays quiet. “You want to tell me what’s going on here?”

"Let me go, or else..." You say firmly and calmly.

"Or else what?" Armitage cocks his head.

"Else, I'll blow your head off with mah boomstick, wanker." replies Boudicca, her left hand held up to the side of Armitage's head.

After a tense second or two, he lets go. "Fine, speak." He growls menacingly.

"I'm here because I was called here by someone named Seth Dietrich." You say, as you adjust your lapels.

"What made you think that I'm...this Seth Dietrich?" Armitage replies.

"For one thing, you're here exactly where he'd be in an extremely small window." You answer, "The second thing is that you're also pretty armed and not at all dressed for a sunny date in Fort Lewis Zoo." You then turn the questions on to him.

"So, answer my question, why are you here?"

Armitage looks straight at you, "That's the thing, I don't know how I got here."

"Clarify," you state. This feels more and more like one drekked up trap.

Armitage answers, "A minute ago, I was trying to summon Dog, my mentor spirit in a slum apartment in the middle of the night. Next thing I see when I open my eyes, I'm in the damn zoo next to this lizard exhibit."

"What is the last major thing that you can remember?" You ask more insistently.

"I was on a run with my crew against the Aneki Corporation. In 2050." He replies.

You feel goosebumps. That was a quarter of a decade ago. You pinged your crew, "Abort, abort, abort. This is a trap."

"This is a set up for both of us" you say. "Come with us. Maybe we can help." You extend your hand to him.

You don’t even hear the gunshot, just a wet tearing sound as a ragged hole opens in Armitage’s throat. His dark-red blood sprays out to cover your face; what you do hear is the CRACK of the high-velocity round striking the pressure glass wall of the basilisk enclosure behind you. The gushing blood also splatters the spidery crack spreading from the impact point in the middle of the glass.

As Armitage’s body slumps, lifeless, to the floor, a basilisk uncoils with surprising speed and launches itself at the damaged glass. Which shatters outwards. You can hear the hiss of the beast along with the screams of the panicking crowd.

The Basilisks are Awakened Komodo Dragons. In addition to its near-fatal bite, it also gained a petrifying gaze, allowing it to immobilize prey, and eat them fresh.

Which is why you're slightly glad that it went for the "tourist" who had his cyberarm gun pointed at you.

Boudicca's the first to react, passing you your Colt M23. By instinct, you fired a round into the tree where you suspect the sniper would be, and got a grazing hit in return.

Boudicca deals with the immediate threat first, the Basilisk chewing on its now-petrified victim. Double tapping the beast before it could turn its attention on anyone else. You fire a three-round burst into the Sniper's location, while at the same time, Boudicca was hit by the Sniper.

She was hit in her left cyber-arm, which caused her to miss when she returned fire at the Sniper. When no body flopped out of the tree, you realize that the Sniper had cut their losses and turned tail.

Looking for Crowley and Mustang, you turn around to the North Entrance where they were keeping watch. Two more bodies of "tourists" lie dead on the ground, with one of them almost vertically bisected while the other had his guts all over the floor. You immediately check Armitage, hoping at least he's still alive to give you answers, despite the evident gunshot wound to his throat. Unfortunately, death was pretty much instantaneous. Scouring through his jacket, you find an identical twin Hermes Ikon commlink, a Colt Government 2066 with 2 mags of APDS ammo and a Platinum Credstick.

"Got anything?" You ask the rest of the crew.

"Nope," replies Crowley checking one of the dead. "All of them pretty much dead, including the gutted one. Brain fluids are leaking through their ears though."

Mustang stabs a piece of an implant perfectly cleaved in half to show everyone.

Boudicca whistles, "That's a Betaware Cortex bomb. Custom and expensive."

"We can gawk later," you say. "Now's the time to bogey out." You hail your ride, "Lancer! We need a pick-up fast!"

"30 seconds to LZ, coming in very hot!"

"You heard the lady. Let's move!" Your crew immediately head for your extraction point.

Thrusters burn, metal groans, no gunshots ring off the T-bird's chassis; you can barely make out the banshee wail of a thousand sirens in the distance, but no UCSAF T-birds or mil-drones pursue you. Another “clean” getaway.

You try to slow your ragged breathing and thundering heartbeat, reload your weapons, get a sense of what just happened, who’s hurt, how badly, and who all the blood soaking into the upholstery belongs to.
Some of it is yours, and most of it isn’t. But now it all looks the same.

Brass tacks time: Armitage is dead, killed by cyborg assassins packing milspec ’ware, and drek has gone sideways and into the fan. You should have known that 100,000¥ to walk away was too good of a deal to be true, even if you now have the creds in hand. Things went FUBAR, and you’re still stuck with this commlink. You can’t just ditch it out the window and let the corps and the crusaders fight it out. Even if you dropped it in a dumpster, no one would believe you’d done so. They’ll keep coming for it until they know that they, or one of their rivals, has their hands on it. Brackhaven’s people may well keep coming until they’re sure they’ve eradicated every single copy of the data, or until it’s a moot point. At this point, the thing is such a giant bullseye that you’d practically pay to offload it, but you should get some nuyen for your trouble. Sell out while the selling’s good. But to who?

Crowley exits the cockpit and sits next to you in the passenger bay. "Lancer's pissed she had to extract us from the UCSA military. Something about hazard pay and too much attention. She's asking for extra fifteen hundred nuyen."

"She earned it," you say. "Besides, not wise to piss her off when we're still in the air and no one else know how to pilot."

"True." Crowley nods his head, "I've several new messages from interested parties in regards to our "hot potato", but it can wait till we rendezvous with SS and we're all safe and sound in the safe-house."

"Anyone hurt?" You ask.

"Nothing more serious than nicks and bruises. Though Boudi's had the worst of it, her left arms damaged and she'll need to see a 'ware specialist to fix it. One question though, do you want still want to keep Boudi and Lancer in on this?"

"We'll send Boudi to where she can get fixed. Keep Lancer on retainer, odds are we're going to need her extra firepower." You answer Crowley.

"Agreed. Well, here." He passes to you back the plat credstick you took off Armitage and gave to him for verification. "All 100,000¥ that your Dietrich promised us. You're sure he told you he wasn't Dietrich, mate?"

"Yes," You say. "His voice felt familiar yet different at the same time. His accent and tone were all different. As if they were twins separated at birth and raised in different parts of the globe."

"Well, that's a mystery to be solved later. I'm going to check on who hit us at the zoo. Cyborg assassins with custom made milspec 'wares and cortex bombs don't grow on trees." Crowley then wanders off to a corner, calling one of his in-numerous connection.

Guy's about leaving Boudi somewhere, I think it's a bad idea.
Blackhaven's guys already have the footage on the incident at the zoo, where she was with us. They'll probably check where she get's repaired after that shot, and they might go after her to get info on us.
I think the best strategy is to stick together until we unload the "hot potato" even if she just sit's on the t-bird for now.

You decide to check on Boudi, she's the only one that was hurt badly this time.

Across the passenger bay, Boudi has a toolkit open. Her left arm detached and she's tinkering with it. "Hey there, lover boy."

"Hey," you say. "You alright, Boudi? That shot looked pretty bad."

"Yeah, me arm caught the worst of it. See?" She waves her left arm about. "It's not nearly as bad as it looks."

"Well, I for one am glad you were there giving us a helping hand." You say with deadpan.

"Hahaha...Owww." Boudi laughs before accidentally braining herself with her arm. "That was a pretty terrible pun."

"Corny puns aside, what do you think happened in that SNAFU back there?" You ask.

"Honestly? We were very lucky the assassins weren't really after us. It would have been a lot worse if they had also released the other animals in the exhibit. Could you imagine not only dealing with basilisks, but also a Piasma at the same time?"

You recall the Piasma, a Para-critter in an enclosure nearby the Reptile House. It was big, almost double the size of a normal black bear, and definitely waaay stronger, tougher, meaner, angrier, and uglier. You shudder at the possibility of getting mauled by it.

You thought about Armitage and his final words, "Have you ever heard of Armitage, or a run against the Aneki Corporation?"

"Not that I can recall. Though, I did hear something about Aneki and the Matrix 1.0. Legends mostly." Boudi answers as she returns to field stripping her left arm.

"Is there anything I could do to help?" You ask, "Could you keep up with just field repairs? Or do you need to see a repair shop for your arm?"

"Down, boy." Boudi grins as she grabs your head in a vice and gives you a big sloppy kiss. Once she's satisfied, she looks you in the eye. "I'm glad you're worried and all, I'm a big girl. I know the consequences of my choices and mistakes. So don't worry so much, yeah? You need to take care of yourself first before being worried for others, otherwise you're only about to make things worst. Understand?"

You just nod.

"Besides, the bullet damage up my cyber shotgun barrel. You can drop me off at my doc. She'll be able to patch me up by at least a day." She says. "Now shoo, you're distracting me."

The first thing you see is Boudi shaking you awake. "We're here. Crowley sent me to wake you up."

As you groggily remembered falling asleep to heal off your bruise, everyone else was grabbing their gear and walking towards the exit of the Banshee. The cockpit doors open, and a purple haired lady with a bobcut and dressed in a heavily modified pilot jumpsuit walks out.

She turns and strides purposefully towards you. Stopping right in front of you, she extends her hand, "Where's my creds, chummer?"

"Yahoo..."She smiles while rubbing the creds on her cheeks.

"We still don't know what our next step is, but if we need to, can we call you again?"

"Sure," she says. "But I want a percent cut next time." Her eyes narrowed down. Her index finger poking into your chest. "And if you chummers decide to withhold important deets, like say evading the drekking UCSAF, I'll toss you off my baby myself. Understand?"

"Loud and clear, ma'am." You quickly answer.

"Good, man. Now leave, parking here too long is attracting enough attention as it is." She boots you off her Banshee and flies off into the distance.

You look to your surrounding. You appear to be in the middle of a junkyard, with everyone else already loading themselves into Brynhildr. SS stands next to his ride, "Well? What are you waiting for. Your Highness? A red carpet?"

You flip him the birdie.

"Well, for one thing, it definitely belongs to our "missing" mate Seth Dietrich." Crowley replies.

"How's that possible?"

"No bloody idea mate, but that's not the interesting part." Crowley exclaims. "The interesting part is..."

"That both Ikon commlinks are a paired set that completes the file that everybody wants." SS interjects, burping and tossing his plates into the dishwasher. "The file's still encrypted of course. But now any decent decker could crack it."

"Thank you, SS for your wonderful insight." Crowley says through clenched teeth. "Would you let me do the presentation or not, you uncouth cunt?"

SS just shrugs.

"As I was saying, the paydata is no longer corrupt, so we won't have to go through the same bulldrekk about validating data again." Crowley finishes.

"We've got two offers from my contacts, who forward their vidmail to us. One's from Ares, the other's from a shadowrunner named Zane." Crowley lights up a cigarette, "I haven't got a follow-up from OU, so presumably they're still in a deadlock on what to do with us."

"Fine," you say. "Crowley, play Zane's message. And keep it brief. We don't want it traced back here."

"Does the pope shit in the woods? Relax, it's on a burner Metalink." Crowley sets up the message to play.

The picture-in-picture cutout of the vid-mail in the AR display holds the face of a male, Caucasian human in its frame. In his mid-40s, he has a bland, forgettable face, short-cropped sandy hair, and mattesilver cybereyes. You can make out the collar of an armored jacket in the lower portion of the image. “The name’s Zane,” he says, speaking in short, clipped, efficient sentences. “I’m a shadowrunner, just like you. It’s not important who I represent, and I’m sure you understand I won’t divulge that data. What is important is that I want to make an offer on that hot commlink you’ve been hauling around. I think the team is in agreement to not deal with Are/Brackhaven, so let’s hash out OU or Zane.

OU:
Pro’s:
1. lots of good street cred with an underground organization that has a lot of reach. Services like street docs, shadow clinics, fixers, and safehouses.
2. Won’t try to kill us as a loose end

Cons:
1. Not as much cash
2. It’s taking them time to set up the meet, which is more time for Ares to get antsy and just kill us.

Zane
Pro’s:
Lots of cash

Con’s:

Little birds told me that he runs Brackhaven's wetwork ops for years now and has contracted out to the rest of the Brackhaven family as well as Brackhaven Investments and Humanis Policlub." He stubs his cigarette, "They say he manages all of Brackhaven’s shadow assets and is a trusted advisor to the governor himself, although of course he holds no official rank or title."

SS whistles, "Will he stab us in the back?"

"Apparently, he's a true professional. I mean despite doing Brackhaven's dirty work, the man's no violent racist or takes pride in his work." Crowley answers. "If it takes money to make Brackhaven's go away without risking his own life, he would gladly pay."

he'll probably come after us regardless, if not for shutting us up, for revenge from Blackhaven

one more reason to have some OU friends that can cover our asses
>>
>>2812574
and if OU demoralizes Blackhaven enough that he loses most of his power he will be just extremelly dangerous instead of HOLY SHIT THAT'S DANGEROUS!

So, consensus is to wait for OU offer and turn down the other deal?

Vote here to confirm.

not really refuse, simply don't answer, and make sure they can't reach us to make offers too

We have to plan for our survival guys, waiting here wont cut it. We may need to include the other 2 on it too

"Brackhaven's too dangerous," you say. "There's no telling what Zane might do. We'll wait for OU's call then. Is it safe here?"

Crowley stands up, fills the kitchen sink with water, and dumps the Metalink into it, "It's safer now. I've got wards around the place, and if we truly need to move, it's better to do it in the morning when there's witnesses around."

SS nods, "I'm agreeing with the English ponce here. Renton might be safer compared to the Barrens, but there's still gangs roaming around the streets at night."

Mustang keeps away her blades, "I will keep watch."

"Then I guess we'll need more kaf then." you sigh going for the kaf pot.

It's going to be a long night.

= = End of Episode II = =

You've all reached unanimous consensus to wait for the Ork Underground's call. The new episode will be in the new thread in 12 hours, but this thread isn't done yet. You'll need a rendezvous point with the OU to meet face-to-face, and since you're the one holding the commlink, the advantage is yours. You can utilize Crowley's and SS' contacts and local knowledge to plan the meeting. I'll try to answer them the best I can. Also, feedback and criticism welcomed.

I really liked the episode man, kept us on our toes and doubting everything at every turn, like it should be.

now questions.

we are dekk impaired, so I'd like a meeting place where a dekker couldn't do much harm to us. I don't know if Crowley has security our survailance wards but those would be good.

we pick a place, mustang does the exchange since she is better at close range anyway while we, boudi and ss (with as many eye drones he can) provide overwatch.

we bail on Barbara Streisand
>>
>>2812636
I guess we better be next to Mustang on the exchange since she is not good with words. so we two go to the exchange while SS provides vision and surveillance and Boudi cover's our ass with her rifle
>>
>>2812627
Thanks for shadowrunning.

What we need most is a good and securable place for the exchange, maybe some re-negotiations as we got both the comms.
We could leave the exchange to SS (has the contact) Crowley (face) and Mustang (Short range) while we provide support.

Also we team dad with how much we fussed on the group.

>we are dekk impaired, so I'd like a meeting place where a dekker couldn't do much harm to us. I don't know if Crowley has security our survailance wards but those would be good.

The places that meet your criteria would be Snohomish, Redmond, Puyallup, and Fort Lewis.

Fort Lewis is slightly out of the question thanks to the gunfight you had at the Zoological Gardens. Not one local would go anywhere suicidal like former Renraku's ACHE, or Glow City in Redmond Barrens. There is a trade off though, the less public it is, the more dangerous it gets. It's a general rule of thumb to keep in mind, but the rule itself is broken more often than not, as your run ins in this episode can testify.

>we pick a place, mustang does the exchange since she is better at close range anyway while we, boudi and ss (with as many eye drones he can) provide overwatch.

Someone still has to talk to whomever the OU sends as a rep though, and Mustang is ill-suited to handle the finer details of the negotiation.

Hotels are perfectly legitimate places to do such deals.
>>
>>2812681
A hotel wouldn't be bad

we can bribe the local net security to keep us informed, we go to the meeting with mustand and Crowley.
SS spreads his eyes on the building to keep us informed of any movement, Boudi provides overwatch from the front roof building and secures a clear path to the gateway car parked outside. Or we get the t-bird and bail out of there from the roof. I don't think the OU will try anything but the meeting place is going to leek almost certanly so we give them a fake place and when they are there we tell them the real place, if people try to ambush us they will have to scramble to prepare a new ambush on the new site and we will see them coming

question time, did we fuck up something very seriously at the meeting? could we have saved Armitage or he was doomed from the start?
>>
>>2812906
Not really.

Just a clue though. The man claims to be Armitage and doesn't know what you're talking about, yet he had Dietrich's commlink on him and you know that Brackhaven is putting a lot of resources into removing evidence that can bring him down.
>>
>>2812933
a-ah I see

and his voice was very similar to the one we heard but not really quite there, like it was the same person....but maybe not with the same memories
>>
It's both, and now that spoilers aren't in effect:

Sam just got the wrong kind of ghosted at the wrong time, leaving us with Jake.
Though another Jake's probably also in a retirement home somewhere with a spooky pet dog.
