Welcome to the skirmish Everwinter company, a skirmish set in a high fantasy world where mercenaries lives are weighed in silver and adventurers in gold. You have joined a small mercenary band named [Everwinter company] led by two former adventurers, a theurgist named Lenoy Lockwood, and a Hedge knight named Nygar Tuskbreaker. To recap after making your way back to the town of Bolton, the group has returned the daughter Emilia to the noble named Wards and after being offered to participate in a tournament or relieve a village being raided. The group chose the latter and has set off towards another job.

This is a skirmish so to set some ground rules here are a few tips!
Play smart! If you feel insecure about your health don’t go charging in just because you feel confident. Always be wary, and never be afraid to ask for advice or support.
The game uses an intermediate direction for determining movement. If you look to the northeast of the image, you will find a set of numbers labeled 1-6. These determine which hexes your char will be moving. 1 means north, 2 means north east, 3 means east, and so forth.

Yeah I usually put myself in charge with updating the rule set to the game and provide it as a reference to both players and myself. While it isn't as fancy as a image set it having a written document of all of the rules in the game helps a lot when it comes to confusion.

*continuing from the last post*

Lenoy looks towards the group as they voice their opinions favoring the Drow rather than the nobleman with a sly grin he gives his answer.
"Looks like we're taking your contract knife ears, got a pen?" As the Wards fumes for a moment before retreating into his manor.
A moment of looking through the contract and the terms are settled 70 silvers per man. Not a lot for the day but maybe helping those in need will pay off in the future. The emissary quickly briefs us on the details of his village being somewhat selcluded
Supplies are procured from nearby hamlets the contract is signed and the company departs with a mysterious item dragged along in a cart the smell of gun powder wafts heavy in the air when a mercenary comes close to the cloaked object before they are reprimanded by Lenoy or Nygar. It isn't until the company comes across a group of younger drows fleeing from the village that Lenoy reveals the object.
"It's a mortar, well more importantly a Krak mortar from Stagrun a friend lent it to us to 'field test' it for a battle or two. Sadly gunners are expensive, and well we spent a good chunk of our funds acquiring the damnable ammo in the first place. Nonetheless all we need right now is a crew of gunners." Looking towards the drows as they gather near the emissary speaking in hushed tones about the enemy.
"A crew of Drow gunners....Eh i've seen worse." A quick chat with the emissary and a discussion with the drows reveals that the cultists have managed to erect a shrine in one of the buildings although which was unspecified. The cults leader going by Vilandry (VI-Land-Dri) has managed to take over the village and converted a hefty number of the populace over to her side. Leaving mostly those unfit or to cowardly to fight to flee from the village. The gunners however are quickly conscripted into the company with the promise of regular pay and the safety of manning the cannons.

>Company Mortar temporarily gained: While the company only has a single mortar at their disposal it is effective nonetheless each turn one mercenary can commence a [firing order] with an act. They may either use their own ranged skill or rely on the mortar crews skill to handle it. A firing order can only be used once per turn as the cannons must be reloaded again. In addition they can only be spotted 6 hexes away from a mercenary although players can use each others sight lines. The damage for the shells is a single hex attack that deals 6 damage and has 1 AP

As the company gathers near the village a wooden palisade greets them as they attempt to survey within the town devoid of the hubbub of civilian life. Drow cultists draped in shoddy armor patrol inside the buildings inside boarded with planks and nails. A ghost town at first until you begin to hear the whispers of chanting until it is broken by the sound of a gate collapsing as the sound of a mortar fires and lands home tearing the gate off its hinges the few groups milling about come to investigate as the cloud of dust wafts in the air concealing the company for now. The battle began with a explosive entry to say the least.

Yep I use the term Moony for discord or online stuff and the name DawnQm for running stuff. I play Spoony in trenchers also if you didn't notice :P I'm more comfortable with the name Moony but I needed a QM name so DawnQm was the name I went. The origin of the name comes from when I finish a update it's literally Dawn or late in the night.

>Is this your writing style or rushed editing?

My answer would be a big maybe, I suppose it's my writing style as I find that when I write its similar to how I would describe it to someone. It makes dialogue a breeze but it makes describing chars and scenes a pain.

Also how have you been lately? What's your opinion on skirmish and also apologies for me pushing the discord onto you previously.

The written format is generally easier to read and search.

Neat.

Typically, having a QM name related to your skirmish/quest makes it easier to distinguish. I appreciate your foresight.

>I play Spoony in trenchers also if you didn't notice :P
How would I notice?

>The origin of the name comes from when I finish a update it's literally Dawn or late in the night.
Doesn't sound healthy.

>My answer would be a big maybe, I suppose it's my writing style as I find that when I write its similar to how I would describe it to someone. It makes dialogue a breeze but it makes describing chars and scenes a pain.
Understandable. I have a similar writing style consistency.
It's mostly for analysis, discussion, or matter-of-fact statements. Because of that it makes any narrative or character writing feel stiff. Dialogue is more natural, but I'm not sure how to keep it from sounding formal.

>Also how have you been lately?
I've been okay. Still sorting out priorities between quests, skirmishes, generals, and other stuff.
I've been leaning towards sticking with one particular skirmish. Unfortunately, I have a fondness for visiting other quests, and propping up the newer ones. I’m still wondering if I should be regretting my decision to participate in that one skirmish or not.
What about you?

>What's your opinion on skirmish
I hold them in high regard. They’re one of the most intimate ways for character and player interaction. They typically provide a framework for more than just seemingly mindless wandering, as seen in free-form roleplay (RP).

Multiplayer RPGs or quests seem to suffer from bloat more than skirmishes, and the long-running ones are both slow and run by multiple people. Civs in particular. Multiplayer games in this medium are exceptionally different to run.
In ranking, skirmishes from what I can tell are the most intensive and difficult to run. Skirmishes seem to require the most variety of skills, or at least rarer sets of skills. 2nd it’s multiplayer civs when they start out, then 1st once they bloat up. 3rd it’s multiplayer RPGs, then fizzling after some time. More so in direction than bloating.

And you?

Same I've had similar trouble when it comes to writing and it's lead to me spending more than a few hours writing a single story post for the skirmish or quest.

>I've been leaning towards sticking with one particular skirmish. Unfortunately, I have a fondness for visiting other quests, and propping up the newer ones. I’m still wondering if I should be regretting my decision to participate in that one skirmish or not.
What about you?

I rarely visit actual quests now a days, mostly I devote my time towards when I head to the quest board for either my own skirmish or others. While I have had a interest in running one I've had much more fun running a skirmish as opposed to a quest. As for how many I play in well I tend to play in whatever interests me. I have seen myself play three skirmishes at a time.

>opinion on skirmish

For skirmishes I can agree with you that they often require the most planning as players can quickly spot errors and discrepancies and exploit them. So making a balanced rule set is often vital and often becomes the main worry for quest masters. In addition to drawing the battlefield, providing a narrative etc etc.
I would also say they often require the most player involvement with the players having to look upon the battlefield, understand the rules and make their own decisions with what they wish to do with their char and keeping track of said chars stats and equipment. In addition to keeping up with the turns.

>for me pushing the discord onto you previously.

I believe it was during operation Ravenpoint when I was playing Lukar then Ukarl that I began to push the subject onto you a bit heavily.

This sounds like something you should bring up with your players. Passed out as in on your seat, or tired enough that you have to abruptly end your gaming/hosting and go to sleep quickly?

>I rarely visit actual quests now a days, mostly I devote my time towards when I head to the quest board for either my own skirmish or others. Same, surprisingly. However, I do find quests and singleplayer games less intensive, generally easier to discuss, and to have more discussion.

I think I am apologies for getting you confused with another dude.

>Same, surprisingly. However, I do find quests and single player games less intensive, generally easier to discuss, and to have more discussion.

Yeah its much easier to discuss a quest than a skirmish mostly due to the fact that speculation with your char is often offset by the fact that said char can die easily. Also QM updates can easily change and switch around strategies.

>When do they not?

XD Yeah when do they not.

>This sounds like something you should bring up with your players.
Yeah in the discord I would notify players about the progress of a update and well generally how tired I am luckily most peoples advice tends to be 'go to sleep mang' which I follow. For updates I generally tend to upload daily turn rather than dig in and attempt to do multiple turns that day.
>>

>I think I am apologies for getting you confused with another dude.
Well, if you do want to talk to said person, I suggest you do so where you know said person is. Like said skirmish or quest you seem to be talking about. It is considerate of you to still desire to apologize to that person after what seems like an extended period, and attempt to do so.

The shouts of marcus as he begins to yell information to the mortar crew starts the battle as the round lands home into the group of drow pieces of shrapnel burrowing right through their armor.
Shortly after David moves to action moving towards the drow and quickly swiping at them with his sword in a attempt to grab their attention. What he does notice is that the ones that he is facing don't seem to have the markings of the somewhat armored ones instead having tokens to their fell god along with crystals and bows.
Tzig meanwhile quickly gets to work mixing together a set of pills for Aram to consume. While not as efficient as he realized they will do the trick nonetheless and allow aram to bolster his strength to burrow his spear through their armor.
Tloxotl simply executes two of the three drow to his left with his focus glowing for a moment before sending a beam that kills both.

-Aram gets 2x [Incomplete ravager pills] Gain additional damage equal to the amount lost from the last wound. It is a tap to imbibe in pill form. Lasts for three rounds

The skirmishes react to David's advance sending him a barrage of rays that burn him raising his shield David manages to block most as they impact his shield but one manages to clip through his shield and strike him in the side. Meanwhile he spy's through a window a duo of drows armed with longbows aim and fire at David who blocks three before two get through it and puncture him replying in turn as he cuts down a drow.
The drows near Aram recover their senses before realizing that one of their own is missing who spots a trio of archers armed with bows nock their arrows and aim at him.
Meanwhile Tlox is struck by a ray of aether by the last drow who after casting the spell brandishes her focus only to be hit by a trio of missiles from Marcus stopping the spell.
Reinforcements come to the drow in the form of two mages from the west and armored from the north.

Aram meanwhile quickly uses his new shield to his advantage quickly jabbing his spear in the stomach of the two drow ensuring them a slow and painful death. As the mortars began to reload Lenoy took a moment to investigate near the entrance of the town looking through he was one of the first mercenaries to 'witness' the thing come crashing through the wall. Befuddled his lips let loose his thought "I didn't think they made drow that big....and that ugly." As he examined the drow who sported scales and teeth the size of daggers....A monstrosity in plainer terms brought to life.
Turning towards the drow he examined them for a moment before asking the emissary a question.
"....How long ago was this village 'raided'?" Glaring at the emissary...Nygar however quickly retrieved his weapon and rushed to the village clanking all the while.

The company proves their worth upon the drow and through steel and magic the drow are slowly but surely cleansed. Their kin now lay either dying upon the battlefield burbling their last breath or wide eyes as they witness their last moments before death. Even as we eradicate their kin the drow begin to rally together underneath their leader. The archers moving from David's field towards their leader in a attempt to shield her.
The three Drow fighters that remain let loose a hail of blades upon David who blocks one after another until a single blade falls through his shield and cuts his arm.

The beast as dull as it may be makes its judgement swift grasping batter it begins to crush him as a man would a fruit. Giving nary a thought as Nygar slices off a chunk before it clots and heals much to his puzzlement. To the north to whoever notices it Vilandry smiles as she with a quick wave casts a spell at the creature and conjures a barrier.

Wracking your head for thought you manage to conclude that the barrier Vilandry is casting seems to be more of a physical one than a magical one.
As a warrior would use a shield to block a arrow it seems that something would simply bounce off its surface. From the color of it you can guess it will block one or two at its most before shattering.

Dawn QM: I feel like I've always wanted to say, but here is the [Field craft] skills defined.

-Field craft skills are meant to be a soft check as to say when it comes to success. Say a errant wishes to use his [Herbalism] skill to create a potion from some loaned jubble berries. In this case his skill is base which is 45 and he rolls a 62 which by normal considerations such as attacking would net him a failure. But due to having the skill he simply gains a sub par result. In this case gaining a item that restores 3 points of health when consumed.
-In another case lets use jay, who has the [worker] skill and wishes to erect a barricade. In this case he rolls a 20 netting him a structure that provides a -30 penalty to attacking to anyone attacking him when he is using it.
-Field craft skills are meant to be imaginative, they rely on the players imagination to help fuel the action. A creative errant can rig a trap using a discarded bow so that anyone who steps on it trigger it and is struck.
-For those that have Scholar, it is meant to be a general knowledge check when it comes to specific information while investigating can net some information. Having Scholar helps a errant learn more about it and even learn the stats or techniques of a creature.
-If you have any questions about the Field craft or about specific actions please do not be afraid to ask.

>Looks at posters and lack of daily posts from my behalf.
"So yeah, I've been a bit lazy when it comes to notifying people about my new schedule to provide a notice to all and to make it official."
>Due to me entering college classes Everwinter company will not update on Mondays and Wednesdays. All other days we will be back to our normal schedule of attempting to post a turn around 12pm PST (Pacific standard time)

I would also like to remind people that have had schedules close up and are unable to post temporarily that they may either declare that they would like to be Botted but this must be declared beforehand to any botting. In addition they may remove themselves from the field of play by >Retreating. Retreating chars will be taken from the field battle immediately without any risk of char death, they may Redeploy again on the battle as a action otherwise if they stay off the battlefield mercenary's that have retreated will earn normal rewards in terms of experience but without a silver payout.
Above conditions on experience subject to change if abused by players

=Botting explained=
Botting is a term used to describe when a player has granted temporary permission to be used by another player. If a char states that they wish to be botted for a few turns simply notify it in thread. After that any playing player may bot said char for the period of time said. When botting please consider playing safe and not take hazardous risks to the char. In the event of a char being botted to proceed with a perceived suicide move QM intervention will happen and the action will be null. Please use personal judgement on the situation and the character you are botting when posting botting actions.

Botting will not be a substitute for player participation, please if you are unable to play simply state that your char is retreating.

>Also as always if any players need help creating a char please ask I am more than willing to help on any issues on char creation or gameplay.

The clash between the Vilandry with her beast and the mercenaries begin as Marcus dispels the first barrier with a series of arcane words as Tzig fashions a arrow of smoke and although misses his mark lands near Vilandry's feet where it burns and lets out a screen of smoke obscuring both her vision of the company as do the mercenaries.
To the west David readies his shield for the onslaught of Drowish blades to come as Tlox sends the drow to his fell god who is rewarded as the relief from casting lifts for a moment.
To the east success is scarce apart from Otto's discovery as his spell burns away the creatures flesh like a flame to to wax. As Aram fails to strike his spear at the creature finding metal instead of flesh, Batter lets out a bellow and begins a cacophony of blades swiping left and right in a attempt to kill the creature.

To the west hope and success, David meets the drows onslaught with his own cleaving them all in two. The sight is to much for the mageling as she freezes up staring at her friends remains it is easy at this point to run her through with a blade or strike her with the pommel.
To the west tragedy is found as the beast runs Batter through with his blade the results are grim to say as he is tossed aside lifeless like a doll. Soon after the beast turns and plucks Nygar who struggles before he is thrashed on the ground over and over.
"Give up mercenaries!" Vilandry says as she flicks her wand in the direction of which Nygar is thrashed at, the sounds of bones breaking are heard along with a weak cry of him being okay". "Your wretched captain is done for and one of your number are dead!"

The beast is wounded as Batter charges it and cleaves off a chunk of it as it is barraged by a series of spells and blades from Marcus, skitter and batter.

Tzig taking the time to focus shouts towards the crew and provides them the needed directions to make the shot right on the mark. Vilandry's barrier and her hair scorched, as Otto incurs the wrath of the entity as he summons a inferno of fire burning him and Marcus.
