IntSec is debriefing Voltera. With the work you've done here, the scraps of knowledge we can glean from engineer Tveilirisk and the Unity Specimen, we're closer to a breakthrough than we've been.

But finding a way to kill a God is only one part of this conflict. And now, High Command has an operation for us. Search and rescue.

The over-extended Pytherians lines are being reinforced by fresh reserves and the tide of material and monstrosities show no sign of abating. We thought the 3rd was combat ineffective, cut off on the Seriaki Plains and taken out piece by piece. But they've been holding on doggedly for two weeks now, performing a slow rearguard as the rest of the Eastern Field Army slowly pulls itself back together and reforms.

Communication has been sporadic. A total blackout for the last 47 hours. We thought we lost everyone.

IntSec has picked up a looping signal, encrypted and wobbly. It's almost three decades out of date and we would have missed it, if not for one late night too many. We think who-ever is on the other is trying to avoid detection by using outdated protocols that are less likely to be scanned for by the Pytherian sniffer sections.

The signal is a repeat standardised call for help, along with a location. It has a personal key-phrase, cyphered Lieutenant General Aranski.

Your job is to get in, get the general and their men, and get out before the Pytherian net loses and the block the Seriaki Plains and the Isvind Forest Corridor.

R&D has gone over your last operations and I've pulled some strings with the HZ Command. They weren't impressed with our attempt at getting Voltera, but they did think we showed some spirit.

Apparently two of their operatives - 92 and 16 if it means anything - put in a good word for us.

So we've got some MIST packs. They're much the same as the kit you're used to, except the incindiary grenades are effective against husks and other re-animated forces as the fire consumes their flesh, and the foam grenades are useful for immobilising anything you cannot put down immediately or can serve as emergency cover.

Support on this operation is slight. You'll have to make do with what you can find on the ground. Half of our rapid reaction force is still undergoing medical from the Operation Cloaked Essence.

This one will be mostly on you, Trenchers. I'm counting on you.

We don't know what to expect. Lieutenant General Aranski's signal carries nothing more than his personal signature and some coordinates. The 3rd Corps have taken a heavy battering and are, as far as we can ascertain, gone safe for those who are now prisoners of war, deserters, missing in action or marching towards us fuelled by the will of the Theurges.

But here's what we know about what might be in those woods.

How does [SL] on Ciw-82 work? Is it always on?
>>
>>2761948
no.
>>
>>2761966
Aim at a spot and let the onboard guidance do the hard work for you.

Extra AP spent above that to fire remove 1 Cover from the target you're shooting at.

When Marking targets - that is, using the 4 AP +1 to hit 1aoe function - extra AP reduces the cover of all those target as well.
>>
>>2761970
unfortunate
>>
>>2761974
So it doesn't hit in 1 AoE, it makes targets in 1 AoE easier to hit for allies? And the 4 Ap for this function are in addition to the 4 Ap to shoot? How long does the bonus last?
>>
>>2761983
You pick either. Firing is different from marking, but both operations cost 4 AP. The bonus lasts until targets are removed or fade from sight.

Can every Trencher ability level up, or only SBC and Rookie's psionics? What are the level up requirements?
>>
>>2762027
>>2762031
From what the QM has said, every Trencher talent can, it's simply not explicitly stated for all of them. You have to perform extraordinary feats or make significant developments using the talent to level up a talent.
>>
>>2762035
>>2726327
>as for getting better at talents, Trenchers that push themselves discover conditions that trigger an evolution.
>TechOps and ResOps are reliant on Intelligence Gained and Research, because they're more . . . equipment reliant.

>>2762000
>>2761924
I wanted to check since these seem like individual weapons or sets to pick rather than necessarily different options. That does make the most sense.
>>
>>2762031
Every Trencher talent has a conditional expansion trigger. If it occurs on map, it expands on map.*

Get out there, try stuff, get killed, try again.

*TechOps utilise the mundane equipment of the war effort to increase their capability, and every +1 skill invested into their talents for ResOps is a magnitude increase in potential power. Pilots rely on fielding and testing experimental equipment, and, like TechOps, develop as time goes on.

The front of the building looks to have barricades of some kind.
My guess is that our target is holed up in there, if they haven't been grabbed yet.

Outhouses might hold supplies. We'll have to get someone to secure that.
The roadblocks are probably only going to slow down pilot movement, so our pilot support near the building is going to be limited until we clear those out...
We might be able to sneak into the compound with a help of a ladder, but we'll have to see if the wall is scalable on site.

If I may - there's a building in the SW corner. With your ability to force crits you could snipe from up there all day.

Does the Mist-Op Pack cause one to lose the Flags and Detonators (the ones you craft) from the kit?

>>2762233

Yeah, but you can spend more AP that you would've spent spawning drones to either get more drones or higher ES for more Margin.
>>
>>2762241
>>2762233
That's how it works - Rookie gets it. An unmentioned side benefit is also that we only issue the really expensive stuff to qualified personnel (ie: you).

And its not immediately obvious because who-ever writes these ability descriptions have the English proficiency of a pytherian auxiliary, but "Operate drone or yourself with your AP" has the enormous side-benefit that you can pilot an entire swarm of skimmer drones as one unit. Or a triplicate of hunter killers.

>>2762201
Everyone. Adjust accordingly. And it is not a universal upgrade.

>>2762241
No, you can still plant flags. Tear off a strip of your uniform if you have to. Standard detonators are part of the multi-tool kit, so they also come along. The DetCharges just pack more oomph. The kind of oomph that almost requires adding a "w" in front of the "oomph".

The wind carries the sound of gunfire, lightning loud as it rolls across the woodland. Churned mud mix with blood and bodies. From up ahead, beyond a bent in the winding road, shouts, yells and screams mix with the staccato punctuation of rifles.

A half muffled whump from a grenade going off tears a moment of silence from the cacophony.

And then someone yells for a general charge.

The Vanadian Trooper sees an opening and runs for it - but caught in the open, is swept away by the advance of a Pytherian Alchimia shocktrooper.

The range of the E-War package, TechOp Cross!

Normally hacking requires LOS, right? Sooooooo - E-War Capability means the drone can act as a node from which you hack! I cobbled an extra dish on there with some duct tape 'cause I figured the idea was mint.

Albeit only anything within its signal range. This makes it possible for the drone to act as a mobile source of information warfare if you need to wring a connection out to something where it'd be ludicrously deadly for your fragile human feet to thread.

The Raptor doesn't have the best signal package.

Bullets strike from the undergrowth - allies? other enemies? - attacking the beleaguered pathfinders. They drop. Their final cognizant member sprints for the nearby Pytherian Standard and, with a flourish, rips out a signal flare.

Trouble incoming.

--

Trencher Stump spins around, breathes in, sights, and breathes out - the Alchemia trooper rears back from a bullet severing their optical nerve. Shuddering for a moment, the Alchemia lets out a groan and

stumbles forward, flesh re-knitting. It takes a deep breath as it comes upon the Raptor drone and then ... flinches as some internal reaction goes horribly, horribly awry.

Seeing his chance, the nearby Legio sprints into the woods to hunt a sniper but Stump dodges the initial attack.

>You can absolutely work together and spot for each other. Spotting for a rifleman is the same. AP applies a +1 Bonus to attempt a specific action but nothing stipulates it has to be your action.
>( If you are trying to help someone, you do need to be in a position to viably help them. You can't spot a shot for someone who is on the opposite site of the map in a soundproof chamber versus a target you can't see )

So for resops, it depends on the equipment.
For example my standard array allows me to spend 1 ap to get +1 skill whenever i use the 'magic' or well resonance type that is 'biology' in addition each array has a set configuration within t.

While mine allows me to gain +1 skill per ap used, the kinetic manipulator on the other hand uses 2 ap to gain 1 skill but it makes up for it in firepower.
An example being that a kinetic resops will have a easier time to get powerful crunch spells while a manipulator resops will be having a easier time doing diffcult or creative things.

Think of it like a chisel and a scapel.

A legio bursts from the undergrowth, carrying a minirature sun. ResOp Resin snuffs out the flames at their feet with a few stamps of the boot.

A whistling noise grows steadily louder.

Trencher Rookie attempts to reach allies or those who might in the forests like we, and for a moment, a sensation of intention focuses his eyes on the crest of the nearby hill, where a pair of soldiers from the 3rd Corps, 7th Assault Group spring from cover to pounce on the final pathfinder. In turn, the Legio's shifting to regain control of the lookout position cut them down. The contact ends.

ResOp Resin checks the undergrowth - and finds that it is rife with bodies. A rifle section, twelve or so, dead for hours. Efficient work done by capable hands.

Lt Rookie gives the word for an extraction but pauses in the doing with the sudden, sad realisation that for these Troopers, rescue is hours too late.

--

Trencher Stump learns something new, just as ResOp Blink drops a very big rock on a very surprised pathfinder.

We've captured a Pytherian Stand--- no, nevermind.

--

ResOp Resin's IntelSweep uncovers a Sigilcraft in the process of reloading, having just expended its munitions against whatever barriciade is being manned by men too long in the dying.

--

Tech Operative Cross glances up from his console at the approaching wildfire consuming the undergrowth long enough to key his headgear into the local Pytherian Legion Frequency. They have some guardians, mesh daemons, wards -- child's play. . .

Unfortunately, being distracted, rockets don't quite strike true.

It was a bit unclear. Noentheless, extinguishing the fire and tying up the Legio depleted your available AP.

--

Because Command forgot to tell you:

Fieldcraft is observation and training and gives physical clues and tells

Scanning and Psionics allows indepth interogation of minds and sentiment, and will tell you what information unable available from merely observing and thinking. You can gain more information, and generally make better estimates.

Example:
Using fieldcraft to analyse a Theurge will tell your their general plan

Using Scan gave you an understanding of their disposition, immediate plan, intention and current battle strategem.
>>

I've been asking that multiple times and trying to use it in different combinations to figure it out. Thanks for telling me now.
What happens when I combine them both? Can I try doing the same observation ability on the same target multiple times? Like [Psion] [Scan+] the same Theurge 3 times?

2. It went swimmingly well for you.
3. Not so much for the hazer as they are a restricted black ops unit that we are probably only given access to as the war turns to shit (which is exactly what happens.
4. Remember when you were informed that you had to serve 30 years in the military to even reveal that information to declassify it? Yeah you just did something like that.
5. Hes probably going to try to kill us all now.
>>
>>2763360

>>

>Is it my grammar? Its probably my grammar.....
Nah. I was joking. Thanks for the clarification though.
I was interpreting [Psion] as surface thoughts and senses and augmenting my mind with metaphysical stuff to observe better or combine with other actions. I didn't think of it as an offensive thing that reaches into the chasms of one's mind. Unless I unlocked a higher-level talent or gave a foreboding command like [Mind Dive] or [Mind rip knowledge from brain] with higher DC.

I figured anything they didn't say no to was allowed, like observation.

Your name is Theresa Voldem, specialist, Vanadian Armed Forces, Isvind Battlegroup.

Your clearest, most distinct recent memory that has flashbulb burned itself into your neuronal substrate is the Pytherian Light Walker breaking the barricades around Sodemien and stepping on your special operations team.

You like to imagine that you are a no nonsense, go-getter type of person and this facade holds up well. Most people never realise the floral decorations in your small home was not, in fact, put up on your sufferance at the insistence of your partner. You like fuzzy things. You enjoy sunlight, books by that quirky Pytherian poet that breaks his lines in half, and you hope in your heart of hearts that you made the right decision in coming here.

The man in the lab coat asks if you are nervous.

There is not much to say. You are three times decorated veteran. You murdered the bondpilot that stepped on your comrades with a broken piece of plating you pried off of the shell of the walker that did the deed. You once wrestled two husks off of your sergeant, back on some no-name mud churned hill too many months ago. You don't do nervous. You don't do anxious

You tell him the truth.

He says that's a positive sign.

And then you begin.

it is a bit difficult to hear over the sounds of your ammo being precariously close to auto-ignition, but in your rapidly melting ear-piece, a man speaks in clipped commands

???
Barricades are still holding. Shift the bombardment unit forward two and try again. Go for the Usark shells.

Route the third cohort down to the Lake Point. Find out of what that rock was. We've still got scattered crawlers all over.

Tell the Seventh to rotate out the Fifth. I need them recuperated for a charge action.

Scholae, are your units ready?

I understand.

You have an hour.

Deploy near Flags - you may recover vitality at 1 HT for 2 AP. May also restock AMMO, GRENADES and other such sundry. If a dead trencher is dragged to a field station, they may yet live (assuming the surgeon rolls well, which is a GM roll).

--

Please do not make assumptions about the capacities and capabilities of units or operatives when those are clearly stated. A Field Triage Surgeon cannot restore you to full HT through any other means than you spending 2 AP per HT to recover enough Ht to be considered fully restored.

A Field Station has no words on recovering Focus, at any stage, and so using them to recover Focus is not a thing they can do.

Specifically, because Field Stations allow the recovery of items, they also allow restocking your kit, and your kit comes with 2 "field kits" that allow recovery of HT or Focus. Feel free to resupply at the cost of a standard reload, use a resupplied field kit to restore whichever Focus or HT you want to restore. The total cost for this is 10 AP. It is the same cost it would take to recover 5 HT - the approximate mean of using the 2 AP for 1 HT function that field stations exist to provide

When you restock Field Kits, you resupply from 0 to 2 or 0 to 1?
>>
>>2763850
As for restoring capabilities when off map, going off-map means your unit is retreated and no longer 'exists' as part of the current operation.

Because sometimes as unit retreats with conditions that would technically kill them, we discount that by saying "Spend 4 AP to make sure nothing kills you such as the poison you ran away from battle to avoid being murdered by". That's fine. That's acceptable. Sometimes you want to redeploy, so you move off map to circle around and redeploy at a flag.

It keeps the action going, and that's acceptable.

Do not try to squeeze it for game mechanical advantage or your head will explode.

When off map, spend 4 AP to recover one track. That's 8 AP for two full tracks. This is more efficient than hanging out at a field station, but the operating assumption was that if you were pushed off map by superior enemy presence getting back into the action quickly was the important part. If you retreat off map consistently, you will, like Pilot Milksop, be questioned, and you will, most likely, end up being put up for questioning or hung for desertion.

Cross.
>>
>>2763855
When you restock you restock, you restock. You fill out all applicable kit items that were otherwise consumed.
>>
>>2763877
Question, can we swap out kit items?
>>
>>2763874
>Cross.

So 4! to retreat off-map and 4! to cancel effects that would kill someone or prevent them from retreating, like [Stunned], Fire, or AoO? Making it 8! in total?
>>

>>2763882
TechOp Cross.

And no.

If retreated, but dying, spend 4 AP to stabilise. This is really just noting "I am seeking medical attention for the brain slug attached to my face".

In the specific case of TechOps Kari and Cross, they did write [retreat] but given they were 2 Hexes away from the Map Edge, they just. . . walked. You cannot Redeploy! to the map edge

Where's the flag? No flag, no redeploy.

If you were stunned or on fire or in someone's AoO retreat is patently impossible - can't act, on fire or stunned.

But imagine that you have a poison stack that will hit for you 7 HT damage, and you walk off map with 2 HT. You will "die" in a turn - but as you're off map, nothing can be done about it. You don't technically get to take turns, as you don't exist. You just drop dead. That's an unfortunate consequence of how a turn based operation work. But given that, in any actual point of fact, one would want medical personel standing by to help, we assume that Vanadiar provides for its troops in such a way that if you make it off map, you can restock and redeploy. This costs 4 AP. Per track you wish to fill. So that doing it in full costs 8 AP and then one redeploys anywhere on the map that has a flag, and the battle is on. This cuts down on time otherwise spent by active troopers sitting on the sidelines accomplishing nothing.

So what did Kari and Cross do wrong besides [Retreat]?
[Retreat] works like [Redeploy!] by tracing to a marked zone, flag or B-Tank near a map edge to go off-map? Or does it work like Evacuate? Or was the problem trying to Redeploy to a flag that may have been contested?

Pytherian communication bands are filled with excited battlecant and chatter, a constant undercurrent beneath the bombast of fire exchange. Intermittent rolling waves shockwaves mark the detonation of explosive charges, drowning out the chatter briefly.

We've cleared up the MG situation. Collapsed the position on them. We need a sanitation group over here - they had a magus. And someone get Worash to the medicus, they took his legs.

This is the fifth, reporting - we're pursuing a group of stragglers shifting down near the black pines. Ninth, take them as they come around the crest.

Sigilcraft is ready to bombard, targetting coordinates are locked in. Bondpilots are ready.

Sir, Pathfinder Asphelion reporting - we're at the Lake Overwatch. Looks like a rock dropped out of the sky and crushed the position. No sign of Decanus Soin. Wait--- Vanadian splinter group by the lake approach

Lake, sign in? Are they approaching?

This is Lake, we have a single straggler coming in. Threw a flasher at me - still got spots. We can handle him.

We're still taking sniper fire. Can anyone handle that? --Ah, excellent shot. FORWARD.

Does anyone know where the rock came from? Indicates another magus. I want a containment unit down by the Lake Overwatch.

the battle is going {WELL}.

scattered remnants of the 3rd Corps various units have been pursued into the woodlands and have been putting up a fight for the last week. Running skirmishes bleed into skirmishes as units come in contact with each other. The 3rd Corp is {losing}. This is {great!}.

A few hard knots present themselves - command elements of the 3rd Corps have fortified an old wayhouse and are so far keeping out any attempts at breaking in. This will end shortly.

Saboteurs and raiders from the disconnected from the main elements harass the flanks, but because of the maintenance of JAMMER STATIONS, their communications are being suppressed and their coordination is therefore non-existent. This makes them easy to isolate and destroy.

We are gaining ground in all sectors, but the process is slowed by the Vanadian proclivity towards traps.

I am afraid of the magus elements and I miss my parents. I am glad there are NO THEURGES with this force. They give me the creeps.

It works on anything with a mind.

You would spend 1 AP to broadcast a "Move 1" order. Everyone in the zone would attempt to carry it out.

The feedback process of Warding is instantaneous. You could, however, feasibly dodge or avoid other otherwise difficult-to-perceive effects.

It always heals 1d6 and the Margin is a bonus. A critfail means you jam the needle into a vein and it bleeds horribly, and you fumble the medical attempt, causing severe damage to yourself.

If you think in terms of range, you're asking of aoe 2 which gives 2 range in all directions will overcome a 12 depth hole.

So the answer is "It's a bit short".

12 deep is really deep.

As for "Ignore cover", it ignores cover that you might actively take such as a wall or a ditch. It's a loud lightshow. If you were on the other side of a wall in an enclosed room with a roof, you couldn't hear or see the light show, so the grenade has no effect. They bypass you hiding behind a table, they don't bypass throwing a grenade into the bedroom if you're in the kitchen.

Barraging increasing the effectiveness of explosives.

Officers are helpful.

Scanning should be the same as analysing. And you certainly can compel them to surrender.

The issue is that next turn, they will refuse (most likely). This means you have to keep compelling them to surrender, tying yourself up.

No, I was aiming the AoE of the Feedback Links specifically so it wouldn't include the non-combatants.
Is it possible to exclude individuals from an AoE that reaches them? If so that's what I intended.

>trencher the pathfinders aren't even warded
>they can't-- you can't --- that's not--- how would--- they ---that's not---
Oh. So the sympathetic feedback only works when Wards succeed. I thought you could mind meld them together to produce the same results.

>>2766771
It's all good dude, I'm sure we all had that expression when I led kari into the hole and got her killed :P
>>
>>2766771
Okay, parsed.

You were layering an untested function on top of an unknown on top of an intermix with your own Trencher Talent, and the targetting was curious.

Command appreciates - and really enjoys - people using the system to try things. That's the joy and the fun of these games, the soul, as it wer,e but there is a bit of a pact that is neccessary in tha tin trying to do things one must make it as clear as possible.

Parsing novel functions gets radically difficult.

In this instance, and in other instances, aim for more text if trying something entirely new.

Example:

>Target point 2x3 3x1. Expand AoE to 2.
>Psionic Mindburn: Try to replicate the feedback event caused by scanning Hazer-27.
>>
>>2766790
Ah, right. I assumed it was an already known function, and interpreted one of your answers to a question I actually didn't ask as yes.
'>>Target point 2x3 3x1. Expand AoE to 2.
'>>Psionic Mindburn: Try to replicate the feedback event caused by scanning Hazer-27.
That makes sense. Thanks for the example.

I figured I had to include them in the same command or > since separate actions are counted differently and don't share AoE. I didn’t think of having sequential orders containing components like that.

What follows is a transcript of the mission for analysis purposes

Mission start
Stump - deploys

Turn 1 >>2762502
Stump - moves NE, hides in underbrush, calls info sweep
Cross - deploys
Kari - deploys
Rookie - deploys

Turn 2 >>2762618 >>2762649
Friendlies are seen performing a fighting retreat, one is down
Enemies are seen firing upon unknown targets, SE and NE
Enemies are seen arriving from W

Stump - shoots pathfinders at barricade, downs one
Cross - deploys Raptor drone, many rockets, huge DR
Kari - starts cooking a foam grenade, discovers it's unnecessary, sets up emitter, sets up cover; Emitter isn't set up in the end for unknown reason
Rookie - boosts people to set up flag and contact general, but botted actions do not go through.

Turn 3 >>2762809 >>2762856
Last friendly bites it. Pathfinders shift to barricade. Legio, Alchimia arrive

Stump - late with the post but shoots Alchemia
Cross - moves Raptor, fires MG, misses, requests a boost, isn't boosted
Kari - Throws stun at pathfinders, crits
Rookie - Tries to boost people, hard to understand what is an action and what just a quote. Deploys a flag via Kari. Assumes flag is present retroactively, but it's not
Blink - deploys, forgets people can't act on deployment without a flag
Resin - deploys

Turn 4 >>2762964 >>2763035
Unseen friendlies fire at pathfinders from NW
Pathfinders retreat and call reinforcement, Alchemia hardens and critfails, Legio charges Stump
Observation: what we thought was a building in the undergrowth is not a building.

Stump - throws incendiary at Legio, sets the brush on fire, charges E
Cross - has Raptor rocket Alchemia
Kari - hungers for prisoners, spends 2 ap to determine Alchemia's sex and stun resistance, nutshots Legio
Rookie - boosts people, deploys Hazer, tries to contact allies psionically, has a brief useless vision
Blink - teleports a boulder atop the Pytherian flag, dumps all focus, destroys flag, pathfinder, wasp
Resin - plants emitter

Turn 5 >>2763139 >>2763189
Frendlies are seen behind the barricade, finish off patfinder but are cut down by arriving Legios

Stump - finds and shoots wasp, moves further E, takes fire
Cross - patches into enemy comms, has Raptor rocket Legios, misses
Kari - heals legio, asks hazer to capture him
Rookie - puts out burning legio, captures him, analyzes hazer, tries to boost Blink but is out of Ap, is stunned by feedback from hazer, stuns hazer as well
Blink - tries to teleport a frag on wasp, requests boost, doesn't receive it, explodes
Resin - plants emitter, advances a bit, intelsweeps, finds sigilcraft

Kari - withdraws to put out the fire
Rookie - disables legio at barricade, deploys field station
Blink - heals, plants emitter
Resin - buffs Rookie and hazer to not be hit
Cube - deploys, drops legio into pit

Turn 7 >>2763660 >>2763686
Signal gets weaker
Enemy walker explodes
Wasp arrives from N, taking fire form NE
Pytherian position found

We get told focus can't be restored on the field despite there being a passage in the rules about restoring 1 Focus for 2 Ap

Stump - Throws stun at pathfinders, shoots down wasp, tries to capture the flag, finds more pathfinders and a field station, barely avoids shots
Cross - redeploys, deploys drones (Crawler unit)
Kari - heals off-map
Rookie - is late with post, mind burns wasp despide it being mechanical, deploys troopers, restores focus
Blink - tries to teleport emitter, finds out it's impossible
Resin - debuffs wasp, buffs herself, fires at wasp, is attacked and injected with wasp eggs
Cube - does nothing

Walker explodes again
Comms mention bombarding, missing decanus (possibly smashed by boulder)
We are detected but taken for stragglers
Hazer destroys wasp
Troopers do nothing

Stump - charges into the field station, is gunned down
Cross - moves Raptor E, fires at a rock, orders Crawlers to construct cover in front of himself, is reminded to contact Aranski
Kari - deploys on flag, forgets you can only deploy on top of it, walks into the pit, is killed.
Rookie - restores focus, analyzes captured legios
Blink - is botted by Cube
Resin - heals
Cube - regains focus and confirms focus can be regained despite what was said on turn 7. Bots Blink to teleport him into FoW, scatters, reveals a ton of pathfinders firing N, is gunned down.
Alice - deploys, advances N, makes contact with friendlies

Blink - does nothing
Resin - plants emitter
Alice - moves N, requests intel from friendlies, is told nothing

Rookie - tries to use mind feedback on pathfinders, discovers it is impossible, runs from grenades E, is gunned down
Blink - does nothing
Resin - dumps Ap into tacpool
Alice - throws gas grenade into FoW, misses, plants flag
Red - does nothing
Lana(n) - advances NE, suppresses med station

Tatiana - deploys, summons drones

Turn 11 >>2766820 >>2766921
Second walker exploded, sappers retreat, pursued by wasp
Strong Pytherian force arrives from N
Signal lost, mission failed.

As it was, you didn't have the scouting ability to reliably advance, that's how I see it.
I wouldn't say it's the lack of firepower, since you generally dealt with every threat within a turn. It's just that there was no one to go forward and clear FoW
>>
>>2768682
This is a thing in skirmishes in general. Since you only clear the FoW on map update, if you want to be swift someone has to go forward and scout while the current threat is still being dealt with, so the next turn the rest can act on the new information.

Others can [Fieldcraft] Survey to scout the map for intel and general positions. [Fieldcraft] Scan on enemies for their plans. [Fieldcraft] Analyze for enemy stats. I think they're all the same function, but a more specific request.
I would’ve done more scouting, but I opted for Mind Boosting and some of my actions didn’t go through. Some Mind Boosts did seem necessary to prevent backfire.
In hindsight, I should prepare action posts while waiting for answers to questions, and then make an edited version as needed instead starting after being answered. So I don’t run the timer so close.

I've noticed that every soldier mounted on a B-Tank has died so far. This might have to do with B-Tanks taking risks they can survive, but their Passengers can't.
Passengers don't benefit from the DR or shielding the B-Tanks do, and the Passengers who provide infantry support are typically wiped out when an enemy nades or rushes them. I’m not sure Passengers can Take Cover while riding B-Tanks. Seeing as how quickly we get killed when outside Cover normally, I’m not surprised they’re easy targets when clustered in a singge hex like that.

Infantry should only be on top of a BT for the free movement, it's not a very good idea to ride them while fighting.

Scanning is just scanning.

Survey, Analyse, Observe, Interpret, Divulge, Guesstimate, Estimate, Assume. . . They all fall under the basic scan functionality and are just different words for attempting the same thing.

Psionic potential is not a separate entity, but adds to the information acquired in this manner. All information acquired through the use of Psion based means have been distinctively flavoured. It helps, but is not ultimately a thing on its own.

Scan gets an innate +1 AoE, and so allows you to fieldcraft sweep scan an entire area at once. Now that you have mastered enough of your talents to expand your own AoE at will, you could scan even larger areas by taking the effort to do so. Attacking actively with psionic damage has no innate AoE.
>>
>>2768729
They can take cover, but given their clustered nature, the efficacy can be doubted. And they are vulnerable to grenades.

On the flipside, they cover angles the Bt cannot on its own, have a raised, advantageous firing position and can spot and help the pilot.

->
-1/3
Most units have a vision of 2 Weather increments (2x Weather). In this case 2x(-1/3) or 2*3 would be 6 vision.
Units can not fire beyond what other units have LoS on.
Units can fire as far as they can eat the Range penalties or negate it, but they typically have to state if they're boosting Range by accepting penalties or negating it.
>>
>>2769383
Scanning already functions like a fieldcraft check in the area.

Scan is still limited by grit range, but not by sightlines - and you can spend Ap to increase range.

Yes. So far Scan is the only bit with an innate aoe.

"Boosting allies will automatically rearrange actions so that they fit, even if the boosted action was a failed one. "

This isn't the case.

Wards and Focus are different. Focus is an expendable, and gets burned away, functioning like hit points. Wards are wards, and have a value. Targets roll versus them to resist.

For a warded target with Focus, compelling them in any way is hard. Any damage that gets through the Wards would hit their Focus before anything else, so one would need to leverage tremendous force to punch through their wards then their focus then their HT once Focus is depleted.

It is a mystery. I wonder how.

It is better to assume things happen simultaneously than it is to assume they are staggered. Actions are read in descending order, but are executed "at once". This implies that if you boost people who need it, or help, or wait, you just increase their odds of success at the time of them doing their action - which is mostly simultaneous with you.

This, however, important because someone could step on a landmine. This would still kill them. If you boosted them after the fact, they'd still have stepped on a landmine. Anyone acting after them would not step on a landmine, and boosting them doesn't "knock" them down the initiative order.

And yeah, as in the case of triggering overwatch.

You vent heat into a relevant target nearby. There is no passive cooling as the compression chamber accumulates heat as a by-product of acceleration process.

I pray for the gunners that have to take care of these weapons or people on the firing ranges.
"Hey rory its time to vent the rifle!"
"Okay!" *vents*
"AGGGGHHHH IT BURNSSS!"

>[SL] or Smart Link works like Intel-Sweep? Everyone for ? turns benefits from it? I'm guessing both Smart Link and Intel-Sweep works until the target is dead?

>So things that [Boost] and [Spot] doesn't work on are actions that occur during the enemy phase or has the enemy act first? Landmines because it's typically a hidden item when it activates or happens too soon, and Overwatch because of the prepardness of the Overwatcher?

According to company command here is the description of the smartlink

When Marking targets - that is, using the 4 AP +1 to hit 1aoe function - extra AP reduces the cover of all those target as well. The bonus lasts until targets are removed or fade from sight.

Mind adding that to the wiki rookie??

Oh, sure. I'll start updating the guide again.
>>
>>2769491
I'll help a bit also where I can mostly adding tech ops skills and etc.
>>
>>2769497
I'll work on the [Tr]encher sub-section and the Tutorial, and Gear sections.

Huh. I didn't realize there were images given how I much I blocked.
>>
>>2769491
Oh yeah, also I'll be deleting old ranks in favor of new ranks because it seems that whenever a trencher talent becomes rank 2 it seems to have all the bonuses from the previous in addition to some new bonuses.
>>
>>2769506
Alright!
>>
>>2769507
It might be better to keep the ranks, so others know the differences between each rank and how it progresses.

If you want sure.

Resin, and I'll thank you to never call me mageling again. Sir.
There's good news and bad news. The good news is that, one way or another, the War will be over by year's end. The bad news is that the War will be over by year's end, one way or the other.

But hey, lucky you: odds are I'll never have time to collect what you owe me for saving your skin and hat.

Yoh rookie, about the wiki it seems that for the resops and the techops theirs two copies of them at least the char template? Delete or not :V
>>
>>2769554
They're older versions before someone got around to them, like you. Your discretion since you're more experiment with [Re] and [Te] than me. I've already copied most of the shared weapons and kit to the Gear section.

They get a pistol, no main weapon.

Yes. However, without a Manipulator there is nothing to offload the more intricate parts of combat casting to, and every spellwork sets to range 0, base crunch. This makes advanced work very difficult.

They get a very shiny glove. With no innate Crunch, and no Skill in utilising the capacities of the Other, spellwork is difficult.

Not entirely impossible - more luck than skill can allow a few uses of spellwork.

It seems reasonable to allow them to pick up a gun if they make it to a field station. Might see if we can squeeze one into the pilot cockpit.

They wouldn't commonly need to, but nothing should prevent it.

Assuming they survive and make it, maybe they can redeploy with another vehicle? That depends on supply availability.

... What is this? Are we going to be fighting tougher enemies soon?
Good art by the way. Nice to see what their detailed character models look like.
