Welcome back to Oldfag Fantasy Civ
Discord Link: https://discord.gg/Xx3Kxmc

Last time on Oldfag Fantasy Civ we defeated Wydroganet, a powerful being from the Abyss and saw a return to Normalcy. We discovered many new races, with quite a few of them being hostile to us. Towards the end a powerful state that we have had tensions with for some time now has declared war on some of it's neighbors, and as a result we took the opportunity to invade.

Most recently, our army has begun a siege of the city known as Jerefemen. We have voted to wait until day to fire off our FYTs. As the sun rises on the horizon, our men get into positions, and we fire our FYTs.

Our FYTs fire, and they indeed hit their marks. They break down a large section of the walls, allowing us to charge forward. However, it appears that the drakes are taking up a Phalanx formation at the breach, sending the trolls in for a charge would be suicidal. In addition, our scouts report the enemy's numbers. 5,500 soldiers, all drakes. How shall we proceed?

We send in our trolls through the breach, where the drakes have set up a Phalanx formation. It appears that as we close in, the drakes have T-Bows of their own! Although we outnumber them greatly. We unleash our ranged weapons as the trolls raise their weapons to charge upon the Drakes. In addition, Edgewing shall lead this charge!

As the trolls alongside edgewing charge in, while their brute force can be effective, not this time. The Drakes seem to have practiced the phalanx formation many times, and using Sarissas they appear to be fending off our trolls quite easily. Edgewing has been deployed to the front-line as well, who helps press the trolls forward, although the drakes seem to be holding their own easily, even with the danger of Edgewing.

Our trolls charge forth once more, and have had heavy casualties inflicted upon them. It appears that a reckless charge won't get us anywhere. They disengage and managed to pull back to camp to prepare for another assault. We count at least 1000 trolls dead, in exchange for killing about 300 drakes. A poor kill-death ratio. However, this leaves us time to ponder, what shall we do now?

Our bombardment isn't very effective, the drakes take cover behind rubble or the fortifications themselves. There aren't many losses taken by the drakes from what our scouts can see. However, the plan to insert trolls from behind their lines goes off without a hitch! Our trolls have bashed into the rear of the drake forces, and they seem to be very effective! The enemy was not expecting such a move. They take quite a few losses from this move, and seem to be reeling. What shall we do now?

As you charge forward, it appears to be doing good! The initial charge does see some drakes get killed, although the phalanx seems to be holding strong, at least against the frontal attack. Some drakes in the back ranks have dropped their Sarissas and taken out either standard, shorter spears or have taken to using swords, weakening the formation itself. These drakes are fighting back the trolls. Regardless of the resistance of the back ranks, the drakes are taking significant casualties, at least from those attacking the rear. Many of our trolls also spread out throughout the city, pillaging it and plundering it, much to the dismay of the human inhabitants of the city.

As our trolls press forward on both sides, it appears that we are overpowering the drakes. In the rear, trolls are smashing their way through the Phalanx formation, killing many drakes. The trolls in the front of the Phalanx are still taking casualties, but the phalanx itself is crumbling due to pressure from the back, which it simply cannot counter. So far, we have killed about 3 thousand drakes, but 3 thousand of our own trolls have died as well.

Many drakes seem to be outright dropping their Sarissas and pulling out closer range weapons, and from what we see, it appears that their plans seem to be going decently well. While the drakes are pressed up against each other, they also have called in some small reserves that were left to defend the inner areas of the city. Both sides are taking heavy casualties in this fighting, however the trolls that hit the rear of the phalanx and now encountering much more resistance than expected, and are also being hit in the rear by enemy forces that have been deployed from the inner areas of the city.

Our dwarven forces are sent in using ladders to infiltrate the city! Naturally, they succeed in their task, going unchallenged. Orsieg leads this attack, and gradually, we start to gain the upper hand on the drakes. The Phalanx formation has effectively crumbled, with the trolls on the inside having linked up with the trolls on the outside. Our forces inside the city are wreaking havoc on everyone inside, it appears that we will win the day! Only about 1,500 drake forces remain, and many of them are attempting to break out and flee.

As we continue to fight through the city, the enemy is now making their escape! We've taken about 3,500 in losses, almost all entirely trolls, although the enemy has taken about 4,000 in losses. Eventually, the enemy manages to escape, but with only about 750 of their own left.

In the end, we tally losses. Out of 5,500 the enemy originally had, 4,750 died.

In addition, we have taken approximately 3,700 in losses. 3,500 of those were trolls, and 200 of those were dwarves. With the city firmly within our hands now, and the drakes in full retreat, we have mostly secured the human lands with the exception of Bereksus.

In addition, as the battle ends, we receive a messenger from one of our Operation Tailgate Operatives. Spaeratas has fallen. The drakes took light losses in their campaign, and seemingly used their navy to insert troops within Spaeratas to help break through the mountain pass. As for Manstetus, the war over there seems to be a stalemate, with a slight advantage being given to the drakes as they have purchased trolls mercenaries to help them against the elves. Enemy troops movements suggest that those on the Spaeratas front are being deployed to assist the homeland. In addition to that, the drakes are pulling more troops off the Manstetus front.

This leaves us with the question, what shall we do?

The march is relatively slow. The enemy launches Guerilla attacks, and effectively does a fighting retreat leaving traps and ambushes as it flees, although that does cost the fleeing enemy force numbers. As you arrive at bereksus a day later you meet an emissary of the Heboranazi drakes, a human.

After the deal is stated, the drakes, and the Burninator as well agree wholeheartedly. They release the nation of Jerefemen from their servitude, good news for most of the humans! Regardless of this deal, the war against the elves continues. Operation Tailgate Agents give us some more insight on what happened with Spaeratas. Spaeratas knew it could not hold against the Drakes forever and as a result focused on buying time for most of it's populace to escape in a large scale evacuation. Orcs seemingly aided in this endeavor as well. The few Dwarven traders working for the Argeno Clan that were able to escape shed some more light on their plans. The Spaeratans intended to escape to the Order of the New Earth by going through the Orcish lands northwards in search of a safer life.

As for the war in Manstetus, it continues to be a stalemate as Human troops are being sent back to Jerefemen one regiment at a time.

On top of that, Operation Tailgate Agents also inform us of another 6,000 drakes proceeding southwards to aid Heboranaz against the Elves, they are coming from a variety of Drake nations out in the northern lands. Rumors claim that there is a dragon among them.

As the war ends, in total we have lost 3,800 soldiers. 3,500 of those were trolls, while 300 were dwarves. F to all who died.

While we were gone, Ratmen had raided our lands, luckily, we had left a good garrison, and they were easily repelled.

The last significant occurrance, is that as soon as we pulled out of the Human lands in the east, we have heard rumors of them discussing a potential alliance between the peoples of the Dong Peninsula, a strong naval power, although weak on land to protect each other from the drakes attacking ever again.

You want them to think we care, even if we don't.

We attempt to swoop in and take Jerefemen as our vassal, but we find our offer of vassalization being turned down, for a plethora of reasons. First and foremost, they have experienced vassalization under the drakes, and would prefer to be free. In addition to that, a strong alliance has been established with the people of the Dong Peninsula, which were able to fend off the aggressive drakes for a long time. However, they happily agree to an alliance (If we would want one), and are very grateful for your aid.

As for news from the Drakes, it appears that they are being beaten back by the elves, the humans made up a significant part of their army and this has weakened their war machine.

The offer of Alliance is happily accepted by the people of Jerefemen. In other news, It appears that the Heboranaz offensive, after having stalled is progressing forwards once more. They have managed to take the cities of Widneh and Zethei, as well as free many drake slaves from the elves of Manstetus. Satisfied with their success, they have made peace with the Elves, having taken all of Spaeratas and a good portion of Manstetus as well. Operation Tailgate operatives have also stated that the elves might have gotten their hands on the T-bows.

In further, drake-related news, Lakoranda has found itself at odds with the drakes of Bevherumt, the northern neighbors of the nation of Jerefemen. The drakes of Bevherumt had heavily colonized the lands of the cultists that we had fought in the first war against Wydroganet, cutting off an avenue of expansion for Lakorandans.

In other news, we have made a major discovery about the Underfolk, in specific the Ratpeople, Troglodytes, and whatever else lays below. They appear to worship the Abyss.

We create Pile drivers, which are immensely useful in constructing bridges. These bridges help us navigate the river and wet areas within our lands, improving mobility. Such pile drivers could also help us construct bridges much faster, especially on army campaigns.

In other news, within the troll lands, a famine has begun. There are too many trolls, and while the land could support their current numbers, crops have suddenly just started to wither... and die. This is causing trolls to starve and die. The famine is only happening in the former Toscani Troll areas, and the trolls north of the eastern district. This event causes many to ask, Is this a blessing, or a curse?

As we explore the rivers, lakes, and coasts. We find a few things of value. The only thing of value we truly find is in the lake not far from Koropolis, our capita. Underneath it is a major deposit of the uncommon-quality water metal, Agunta. Very useful in fabrication of metals that are resistant to water magic, and can accomodate up to tier 2 runesmithing upon it.

As for the troll situation, rather than letting some trolls settle in our lands, we simply direct them to other lands where they will be able to have a hopefully better life. Almost four thousand trolls have died in total as a result of this famine, and another five thousand (2,500 from each vassal state) have emigrated westward towards Stou and Greyview's city. Needless to say, the dwarves in this city aren't happy with the importation of trolls but it is necessary to preserve the troll race. The famine is getting worse though. The heads of the troll vassal states are requesting badly needed food.

The Greater Elemental Metal fetches a great price in Jerefemen as well, and we have a good amount of that as well. It appears that opening up trade relations has been pretty good for us all.

Bork Baya is a visionary. At least that's what the military commanders think. He created a gun that is between an FYT and a normal T-bow, smaller and more portable, however it is stronger than the T-bow. Naturally, this means that it takes longer to reload and fire. Truly a strong military weapon. Those that are mounted on ships are called, "Fuck Your Ship," abbreviated to FYS. On land they are merely called mini-FYTs

However, as we develop newer, and better weapons of war... Rivals from afar do so as well. Argeno merchants report to us that the Elves have indeed managed to get their hands on T-bow prototypes. There were used against them in war, now they shall use it to. They are innovating rapidly, and there is no lack of mana crystals in their lands, which only opens the door for innovation even more. The Drakes are creating weapons of destruction of their own, having been able to create what is known as "Unquenchable flames." This new drake weapon is effectively a flamethrower, but much more dangerous than anything their natural flame breath gives them. More range, more power, and more flames. Lastly is the underpeople, who have started stealing and enslaving blacksmiths from the deep dwarves and forcing them to make better quality weapons and armor.

As for our dwarves at home, the Dragonforge is slowly surpassing us in the mastery of the T-bow. By some stroke of luck, or by the power of the Worldshaper, they struck a motherlode of crystals.

While those in Jerefemen do not drink your brews as enthusiastically as the dwarves normally do, you still manage to find a market. Although, you also manage to acquire a curious beverage from the Jerefemeni people, Wine.

We build up our merchant fleet to support even more trade! This is very good, since the Dong Peninsula and the Nation of Jerefemen are very receptive to our trade, and indeed our trade helps prop them up, to become a stronger nation.

In addition, we start mounting FYS cannons on 20 new vessels that we construct, all are Biremes. This improves our Naval capacity greatly.

Heading out into the western seas, we meet several large islands, most of them inhabited by Mermen. Some of them are simply uninhabited. However, a curious anomaly happens, the further we head west... The chillier it gets, at least that's what the sailors say. Eventually it gets so cold they're forced to turn back due to a fear of hypothermia, none of them came with the appropriate equipment. The mermen we met couldn't explain anything about it to us. They claim it's the work of magic. Regardless, it is a curious discovery either way. They speak of tales about a Frozen Continent far out to the west, a land far different than ours.

We begin to establish trading ports on Unclaimed islands, even the chillier ones. While it expands our hold over the western seas, it appears the mermen really don't care all that much. Either way, it appears that the "winter" months that we have in the Serene Valley are nothing compared to those on the islands. It appears that snow, commonly seen only in mountains, is falling heavily from the sky onto the islands. Luckily, it stimulates a large need for warm jackets, which causes anyone who produces jackets to become rich eventually. The furthest Island is about a month's sea journey, however they seem to be holding up nicely.

We begin to develop runic heating systems, and by emblazoning fire heat control runes onto a simple cube of Lesser or Greater Elemental Metal, we can make the temperature of the air warmer! While it still does require charging by mages every once in a while, it seriously improves the quality of life on those chilly islands out in the western lands, in fact, it makes life a little comfier. By now, the the ports on the islands have been fully constructed, and some farms are even taking shape! This enables the ports to be very good areas, although only the more adventurous go there, as there isn't much trade to be had outside of Mermen. Cheap housing prices also help people migrate to these islands. Although, Runic heating is not very useful in the Serene Valley itself, as it is usually pretty war all year long.

As we prospect the island areas we find the uncommon fire metal within one of the islands. It is named Ignos, and is very useful for making runic heaters. On top of that, the Fire metal has fire resistant qualities when put in armor.

However, we must also have an event roll.

Lately, something spectacular has happened. The dragonforge had given us star maps to help us sail the open ocean as a sign of good will, and for our continued cooperation together. As a result, some intrepid explorers have chosen to explore far far out west.

We had set up trading posts and ports far out into the ocean, the further one being a month's sea journey away. It appears that after two weeks of sailing even further westward, you approach a large land formation. Some of the sailors suggested it to be simply an island, others, the continent. Needless to say, it's nothing short of spectacular. The explorers weren't able to stay for long, but they sailed in the middle of summer, when the weather is at its hottest. When they reached land, it was all covered in snow. This is an interesting anomaly to be sure, however they only stayed for a day or two before turning back. They returned with tales of a wintery lands far to the west.

The new cultural idea is formed, and while it will take some time to get into full swing and be implemented, groups of adventurous dwarves will head out to combat the enemies of the Serene Valley, in specific the Ratmen and the Troglodytes. We proceed to make developments in math, and one of our mathematicians thinks for a while. What does it mean to have none of something in math? Well, he thinks a little longer, and creates the number Zero, the symbol for Zero is 0.

In other news, Operation Tailgate operatives have managed to acquire blueprints for something the Drakes have been cooking up. With mountains entirely made of crystals in their lands, they've started to think big. To prevent massive overheating of the T-bow, they use water, but even then that makes the T-Bow overheat fast, and as a result the barrels must be switched out often.

At last, we have finally found some large deposits of Crystals! It appears that far, far out west, in the frozen lands there are crystal caves, and lots of them. There's even massive crystals over there as well! Needless to say, this has massively improved our crystal supply, and while it isn't as massive as say, the dwarven motherlode in the Dragonforge it is still a lot of crystals.

The Drakes have started to unveil their new weapons of war, they call them the Repeating T-bow. Meant to revolutionize warfare for the next thousand years.

We begin to construct stronger defenses on all our islands to secure resources! These stronger defenses help fight off any possible wildlife attacks, and they are also build in case of an attack by enemies such as mermen.

Difficulty: Medium
The construction of your Temple to the Worldshaper is a little costly, however the Dragonforge actually covers your expenses, and it certainly draws trolls to worship him, now that the Usurper is a distant memory in the mind of everyone.

>>2762417
Difficulty: Medium
You begin to fund and construct a new hold in the Lands of Eternal Winter. There was no hold previously, so this one is constructed quickly. Filled with top of the line Runic Heating (Which was somewhat pricey) and maintained by Fire mages (provided by you and the state) it keeps the residents of the Hold, dubbed "Foothold" by the inhabitants, very warm. Within is mainly living quarters, some minor defenses, forgeworks, and mushroom farms to ensure that residents are fed somewhat. A well paved road leads to the docks and small town near them. This hold was exactly what the residents needed, and is very comfy!

In other news, it's time for a Supreme senator election! If you wish to participate, fill out these questions (Optional) but be sure to roll! >What should we do about the Lands of Eternal Winter?
We will invest infrastructure and defenses into the winterlands for what they’re worth.
>How to keep up in the arms race that is happening in the world
We’ll keep on researching better weapons than our rivals and producing more than they can.
>What shall we do about the border crisis unfolding between Lakoranda and Bevherumt
The human nation has supported us in the past while the drake nation in this conflict supported Heboranaz against us. I will aid the Lakorandans in this.
>What will we do about the rising Troll Populations?
A good many trolls will die in the next war we fight so concerns about their population should not be gripping.

WE wish to support

Goatshen Tann for supremem senator.

The Lands of Eternal Winter holds great promise and we shall fund Senator Bork Baya's endevors to improve Foothold to become a massive player in the Crystal Industry.

To keep up in the arms race we shall embrace the second greatest weapon of the dwarven kingdoms, besides stout dwarven spirit, and that is the massive manpower of our holdings. By allowing our protectorates to contribute manpower into the Dwarven army and the adoption of mixed unit tactics we shall grow to crush our foes. Imagine the might artillery can hold when loaded with ease by Troll soldiers. Our craftsmen will learn the value of numbers and rather then toil to reach new ways to kill, we shall simply stay a step behind and improve on the inventions the other nations hurry to create.

As for the border crisis we shall put it to vote which side we should favor if any at all.

Finally about the rising troll population if we put em to work in the labor and war fields they specialize in we shall see use of them. The trolls were invaluable in the last war and they can be made a resource not a threat, should carrot and stick be properly handled.

We begin to delve deeper into math! Eventually, our mathematicians come up with basic geometric principles. Such geometric principles are the Pythagorean Theorem and the study of triangles. In addition, the study of all shapes, including circles. This revolutionizes not only mathematics, but also architecture, and many other fields of study.

In news related to the Lands of Eternal Winter, it appears that we have made a major run in with the wildlife... It appears that Yetis are prolific there, they are a very common "animal." They can also be found high in the mountains in our lands.

On top of that, the Lakorandans seem to have moved all their forces to the border with Bevherumt.

Now it is 8 groups of 4 fighters. This group is curiously from Lakoranda, and fight unlike any dwarf, using agility rather than sturdy formation.

The group from the Serene Valley gains the upper hand against the Lakorandans. They steadily attack faster, however Bork Baya and Kosotir are there to soak of the damage, while the other two dwarves within the group start to chip away at the enemy one hit at a time. Using this tactic they take down one of the Lakorandans, and injure another one, although he is still in the fight.

As Bork Baya takes down the Lakorandan chief, the tournament advances to Semi-Finals, where the competition has gotten increasingly difficult!

It appears that you will now face a band of veteran warriors from Stagmun, who have spent many days on the troll front, fending them off at every attempt. Needless to say, with the high caliber of power, Kosotir's modifier will not be in effect any longer, setting the DC to 40.

And it appears that we are off to a fast start! Bork Baya and Kosotir work in a tag team, taking down two of the enemy competitors. The stagmun, while used to trolls and enemies of such stature, they can fend off Bork baya a little more easily, but as they are pre-occupied with Bork Baya, Kosotir swoops in and takes both of the competitors down. However, the other two from the Serene Valley are wounded.

They advance to the Finale, where they will be pitted against the Dragonforge's best melee team. It consists of one of their generals, and three gladiators who have fought in this arena their entire lives. The prizes are fully unveiled.

The winning team shall get the a chestplate made out of a Wyvern's heart, large enough and provides strong protection against all attacks, an exquisitely furnished robe, meant for mages made out of Flamewool (Rare Fire Cloth Material), a large shield made out of Teruslum and Wyvern Hide, excellent at deflecting earthen attacks. Lastly, the grand prize will be a helmet. There are only four that will ever be made, one for each of the winners of the Tournament, made out of a chunk of Meteorite, it has strange properties that will be revealed to the winner.

As the contestants contemplate what they'll do with this, they could also be exchange for a large cash reward. However, as the fight begins, both teams now start to attack each other.

It appears the Elite Enemy team has the upper hand this round! It appears that the enemy has the better strategy here. It deploys one person to distract Bork Baya and Kosotir while the other three gang up on the 2 remaining contestants, and this is very effective. Both of the other serene Valley contestants are severely wounded. However Bork Baya and Kosotir are very well off, and in fact have inflicted some wounds on the Decoy.

While your team loses only one person, it appears that you have taken down two of their own competitors! Kosotir and Bork Baya had taken down the decoy with relative ease by giving him a sound beating, and then rushing to the aid of their fellow competitors, and surprising the other Dragonforge teams. This gives you a distinct numbers advantage. The crowd is roaring as this finale is heating up!

We begin to improve our runesmithing techniques. While we do have Tier 3 runesmithing, which can runesmith all rare and lower metals. However, most runesmiths have had all sorts of varying methods of Runesmithing that they picked up over the years. Now, we are starting to standardize Runesmithing. As a result, this improves the overall quality of the runes that are smithed/forged onto metals, and therefore improves the quality of our armor, weapons, and T-bow variants.

In other news, the Ratmen and Troglodytes are launching a large assault on the Deep Dwarves, and our own Underwardens are being assaulted more heavily than before. Something has gotten the Ratmen riled up.

As for the Lakorandan Border Crisis, it appears escalation is in order as the amount of border skirmishes is ramping, and that war is hotly debated throughout all of Lakoranda.
