Hiding under the brush you spy on a giant boar grazing, oblivious to your presence. During this stagnant time, you think back to how you came to this point. About how you left the Knight Order and all.

"The Order wasn't for me" saying under your breathe. Sure it was great and all, but it just didn't click. It wasn't as exciting and wondrous you initially thought when you started out. And over time, that interest just...faded. Faded until you quit.

Not to also say that the upper echelons were incompetent. You swear that your commanders were purposely taking bad decisions. YOU EVEN LOST TO FUCKING ORCS!? How could someone mess up that bad? Sure there are many other commanders in the Order that are more tactically wise but that moment just did it with you.

Breathing out a deep sigh you turn your attention to the giant boar. Then quietly stepping out of the brush you make your presence known. The boar noticing your approach takes a hostile stance. Ready anytime to start charging.

Though the skills remain intact, we left that weapon of ours behind when we left the Order. It would have been a symbol of the past we wanted to put past us. All we took with us was this armor and shield - tools for defense, not for murder.

Taking a defensive stance, you hold up your great shield. Ready for its charge. The boar's tusk protruding from its mouth it shines ivory. Many men who are either stupid or inexperienced can very well die from a giant boar. Either by its trampling charge or sharp tusk.

We have a shield, for god's sake.

>>2729272
The same would apply to basically anything with a decent heft to it. Certainly, I expect the shield will see quite some use as an improvised bludgeon throughout this quest before we find a reason to take up our old weapon once more.

The sentiment was that shields are not purposefully-designed weapons, as opposed to, say, swords and spears whose only purpose is to kill. By leaving our weapon behind, we would symbolically was our hands clean of our past. Or try to, at least.
>>
>>2729313
The weapon selection is more of a "we always had it up to this point". But I like how you're enterpreting it.
>>
>>2729323
Does that mean we can choose rhw weapon we left behind?
>>
>>2729323
I had an inkling of that; but on the other hand, who the hell deliberately voluntarily chooses to train with nothing but a shield and gauntlet as a weapon of choice? Attempting to rationalize it as something beyond 'MC is an absolute madman' was entertaining to me.

Hiding the DC only really matters when the players are still voting on the choices. Once the votes are locked in and the players only have to roll, it doesn't really matter unless the QM wants to be able to fudge the result between a pass and fail.

Go back in the shed

Growing irate the giant boar sprints towards you, clashing against your great shield. You stand your ground pushing against it. Winding up your right hand, you strike at its head with your gauntlet. Leaving the boar stunned. Moving aside you regain your composure. Position yourself at its side.
Tackling it you bash the hog on its side, toppling it. Starting to squeal and grunt it thrashes about trying to push itself up. Coming closer you go by its head. And with your shield up high you slam down on its neck. Immediately stopping its movement.

-

Laying down your shield you examine the corpse. The quest wanted just the tusk so you start harvesting the body. Done gathering what you need you start making your way back to the city.

Walking towards the gate you pass the guards entering the Alafen, the kingdom's capital. Walking through the street, passerbys make way for you. You don't really blame them too much. After all...

>Your known for killing a huge bandit group single-handlely
>You've killed a chimera by yourself.
>You have a few screws loose.

>>2729541
To clarify a bit more, as long as you pass the DC you're fine.
>>
>>2729690

Similar, but less emphasis on killing.

>You've killed a chimera by yourself.

H*ck yeah! A slayer not a murderer
>>
>>2729704
>>2729741

After all, you killed a chimera all on your lonesome. A feat barely done by anyone. Word spread around how respectable and heroic of an act it was but interpretations of you differ. Often people speaking how you mulled the beast making you seem like the monster.

Reaching the guild you come up to the receptionist desk. Dropping two huge tusks in front of a woman with glasses.
"Ah! Miss Bonny, you came back to complete the quest yes? Then your reward would be 10 silvers and 1 gold" jittering from your surprise. Handing you the payment she regains composure."How did it go? You should be careful since the demon lord has been acting up more.We just got a notification from other guilds."

>We're still at war?

"It'll be fine. If I survived my past authorities than I can survive anything. For all I care, I'm glad to be out of there."
"Okay. Just be careful Miss Bonny. You're one of our strongest adventurers at the moment. But I guess everything would be alright with the hero around."
"Hero? who's that?"
"Recently the castle summoned a party of heroes. That's at least what the people been saying. They're suppose to be super strong to fight back the demon lord."
"Well I guess that's good news. Hopefully they can do better than what I've seen. Thanks for the info, but I need to move on to the next job" you say, walking away from the desk.

In front of the quest board you search for your next job. Skimming among the posters

>Substitute Executioner: In need of a substitute executioner. Our current one is out sick. Place: Alafen Castle

Taking the poster you set off into Rova Village. The place isn't too far as you can get their by foot before the sun comes down.

-

Stepping into the village you ask the residence about the wyrm. They said that the wym usually comes from the forest that borders against the village. Sneaking into farms to eat cattle. We need it to do it fast as there isn't many remaining.

Entering the forest you hear the chirping of birds accompanied by buzzing insects. Wyms aren't a species too hard to find so you should be able to exterminate it by today, if not tomorrow.

Wandering through the forest everything seems to be calm. Well for the most part. You are still hunting a wyrm.

Still you never thought about it. What are wyrms? Yes they're related to dragons....in a way but they're way too different to be of one. At least wyverns makes more sense being a separate species. How can a glorified earth worm be related to such a thing.

Walking through a forest doesn't really make things as advantageous as you want it since it can ambush you. But your fairly certain you could handle it. Wyms has been more of a pest or vermin. Comparable to rats in a knight, or a ex-knight's point of view. Always digging around making the mess of things.

That train of thought gets interrupted though as long figure lunges at you. Only to narrowly dodge it. Looking back it was a wyrm. Snake-like and bulky, staring you head on. Slinking back it lunges once more, fangs bared.

Quickly, you take out your great shield. Slamming it in a hurry to block the strike. And with a loud *CLANG* the wyrm slams into it. The fangs leaking venom, burning a gash across the shield face due to its acidity.

Immediately it retreated back with a loud hiss, digging into the ground. It breaks apart the topsoil as it swims underneath. Making an effort to strike from below.

Grabbing both sides of the great shield you hold it up in hopes to crush the wyrm whilst it's digging.

Trailing towards you it comes closer. Leaving a artificial path of mounds in its wake. Right when it's just before you slam hard. A loud *GONG* resonating throughout the forest.

The wyrm wiggles and writhes. Thrashing about under the soil. Who knew that its own tunnel would be its own grave. Humorous you might add.

Lifting the heavy great shield up you holster it on your back again. A green residue mixed in with the wyrm's blood dripping from the bottom. Just like that you exterminated the wyrm.

Arriving Rova again you notify the chief of the village. The chief prostrates himself. Giving praise and gratitude for your deed, only to have him to calm down as he made things quite awkward for the moment. Leaving the village the residence gives your thanks. Waving goodbye as you make way to Alafen.

-

Arriving to the inn after confirming the quest with Lemmy (the receptionist), you begin to take off your armour. Toned body, blonde hair, sharp eyes, scars here and there. You could probably marry into a nobles house if you tried. Changing into night clothes you go to bed. Sleeping in a matter of seconds.

-

Waking up, you rub the sand out of your eyes. Yawning as the sunlight fills the room. Changing back into your armour, you ready for another day. What will we do today anyway?

"Guess I could take up another quest at the guild again." Talking to yourself as you grab your great shield.

Arriving in the inn's diner you come to get breakfast. Sitting down at a empty table you call for a waitress. Coming for you was a woman with her hair in a bun, exuding a weird maternal aura. Ariel, the Freshwater Inn's owner. If she wasn't been married already suitors would've made a line all the way to the neighboring kingdom.

"Going to the guild again I presume Bonbon honey? You shouldn't work yourself hard you know." Ariel says in a floaty way. "Who am I gonna take care of if you don't come back?"

"Don't worry Ariel, you know me. If I died it would be from a damn dragon. I always say not to worry about me too much you know?"

"Well if you say so Bonbon. I just don't want you to get hurt you know. I've seen you push yourself hard. Harder than any man."

"C'mon how long will it have to convice you. I won't be diying."

"Mhmm, if that's what you say. So how 'bout breakfast honey. Must be starving out there." Pulling out a notepad to write my order.

Depends on the Armor, Chain Mail you can slip on like a T-Shirt that weight 20 pounds.

Plate you need someone to tie the leather straps that goes behind the arms/back. But there is some parts of the armor where one can do themselves.
>>
"Just soup and bread Ariel. Nothing too much okay?"

"You sure with that much? You're still a growin' girl you know?"

"That's all. I don't really have a appetite this morning Ariel."

"Well it'll be right up for you quickly Bonbon. You can always ask for more you know." Saying as she walks back into the kitchen. Breathing a deep sigh you rest your head on your hand. Ariels been a handful ever since you came here. Doting on you, acting like a mother.

"Hey! You're Bonny Francis right?" You raise your head up, taking off your helmet. Looking to your left you see a man at the table next to you. Wearing leather armour with a shortsword sheathed on his back. "Heard of the big news? A hero party has been summoned at the palace to fight back the demon lord. What ya think of that?"

"Who's the hero? Gotta be something good if everyones been making a fuss."

"Well going by the rumours his name is Takamino Hiroto. He's gotta be a looker since descriptions of him is essentially godly. Peoples been saying that his hair is bright as the sun, his face chiseled from a master sculptor. But it's not only him, he came with a whole party." Hearing that the kingdom summoned a whole party of heroes certainly intrigued you. Hopefully the upper echelons play their cards right.

"Can you tell me about the other heroes?"

"Well there isn't much info about them other than rumours. I can only say that their names sound like Takamino whatsamacallit. And that the others are a wizard, priest, ranger, and knight."

"A knight huh. I'm assuming he's staying with the hero, or...with the summoned party. Cause I feel bad if he was forced into the Knight Order. He'll burn out before he'll choose a branch." You joked

"That's a funny miss ex-knight." The man laughed. "Just wanted to tell a top adventurer. Just to see his or her's view. Personally I think it's weird that they tell us now out of all times ya know? Well I gotta be goin' my own party's must be waiting at the guild." he grinned. Exiting the inn with a wave.

"Had quite the conversation there Bonbon. Here's ya order." Ariel came in with a smile. "In my opinion you would do just better than some ol' hero."

"Well he's summoned for a reason. He's gotta be powerful," starting to eat.

"I see...well see you later Bonbon. Gotta tend to others," saying as she walks to the other tables, notepad in hand.

Poster in hand you come to Lemmy. Notifying her about the quest.

"The caravan escort huh. Well I'm sure that there would be a party or two there so things shouldn't be bad. The caravan should be at the city gate getting ready, Miss Bonny." Giving a nod you make way to the exit, Lemmy shouting "Goodluck Miss!" behind you.

-

Exiting out of the city gate you meet with the merchant and one other adventurer party. Showing the quest poster to the merchant to varify it.

"Good, good! With this everything should be safe. I do need you to know that it'll take a couple nights before we get to the bridge though. Is that okay mister? I'm supplying the food and water."

"Yes, that should be fine. And I'm a woman." Correcting his mistake.

"Oh my apologies! Under that armour and helm I'd guess you'd be male. It's just that I never seen a woman as tall as you too." saying as his eyes go wide. Recovering from that shock he composes himself, "By the way, the one other party should be by my caravan ready to go. You can wait here as I get ready myself Miss" Nodding, you acknowledge him. Walking towards where he pointed.

Upon seeing the party that was suppose to escort as well. You got a good look at them. Just what seems to be a warrior, ranger, and wizard. A rather small party than expected. Having a conversation on the side of the caravan.

Noticing you they turn their attention. Eyes wandering up and down your armour in surprise.

Approaching, the warrior extends his hands to shake yours. "Hi! You must be escorting the merchant as well I assume. I'm Gus. Our party's wizard is Mirana and the ranger is Colt."

Shaking Gus' hand you start introducing yourself. "I'm Bonny Francis, I'll be joining your party this quest."

"O-Oh! Well come. We can talk more as we wait," Gus making the same expression as the merchant.

Following him you meet Mirana and Colt. Mirana looked to be a child. Adorning a robe, a book in her hands. Colt himself looked like any ranger. Light clothes with some leather padding, a bow handing around his shoulder.

"Who's this man?" The little girl or...Mirana questioned Gus.

"This is Miss Bonny. She's joing us this quest. And um...it's a she"

"That's a woman?!" Mirana and Colt shouted in unison. "With armour and a height like that, it makes me more conscious of myself?!" The little girl called out, staring up your stature.

"Well this is a way to meet your friends."

"Sorry Miss Bonny. It's just someone with that much armour on would mistake you for being a man. Mirana, calm down please!" Gus chopping her in the forehead.

"Stop doing that! It makes me look like a child. I'm 18. 18!"

"Hey girl. If it makes ya feel better, the boots give a whole two inches," trying to appease the wizard. Taking off your helmet as well,"The plume from my helmet also makes me look taller."

"That doesn't matter if you're still towering over me! I have a woman's pride to worry about!"

"Well you certainly don't act like you have one," Gus jabbing back a response. Pouting her face even more, Mirana stuck her tongue out towards Gus. Walking back to her seat again.

"Sorry for the trouble," the ranger said. "I'm Colt. Our wizard is really conscious about herself you know. Stopped growing very early on in her life."

"Shut up!"

"Again sorry about this Miss Bonny. Hope it'll be fun while we're all here," Gus nervously chuckling at this development.

-

A few minutes pass as you listen the bickering between the wizard and ranger. How could they talk for that long? The lil' wiz must be powering through with magic right?

Their conversation fading in and out of your head at times as you wait for the merchant to start. Passing comments, remarks, and memories between the easily irate girl and nonchalant ranger who was laying his body across the grass. Occasionally hearing Gus, correcting their statements.

"Sorry for keeping you waiting! We're ready to go!" shouted the merchant. "Things took a little longer than expected since I'm going to the other kingdom but now we're ready."

"Alright, we should get going than before the sun comes down." Gus proposing.

"Then off we go!" merchant saying in a jolly voice. And like that we take our leave.

-

Listening to the sound of your armour while walking, you look up to a falling sun. Painting the blue to pink and red. The merchant notifying us to stop and make camp.

"With this far we should get there in just two more days," the jolly merchant announced to us, getting the food.

"Hey if you don't mind me askin', why'd you call for an escort? The road's pretty safe from what I know," Colt said, climbing down from atop the caravan.

"You can never be too safe," the merchant responded. "And with the demon lord I'd say my action is justified."

"As long as nothing happens to us I could care less about some demon king," Mirana intervenes as she drops herself off from behind the caravan.

"You guys can talk all ya want, but please help out!" Gus shouting for help.

Deciding to pitch the tents up you get everything you need from the caravan. Once done you looked up once more. The sun nowhere to be seen, the sky growing dark.

Coming to Gus you asked what we should do for lookout, "We'll do it by intervals. I'll take the first turn for the night." informing you. "My group already talked about this and agreed that'll I'll be the first, Colt would be second, and then Mirana, then you."

"Okay. That seems alright," agreeing to the schedual.

"Come sit down by the fire. The food should be done. I would like to talk with you more along with the others," Gus saying as leads you.

-

Sitting by the fire everyone eats. People always think that adventurers always had it hard since the food essentially came down to bread, jerky, and water. It all came down to getting used to it. Even in the Order you had practically the same meals. But since the merchant offered food such as fruit and meat, you're currently eating what boils down to a luxury.

"So how'd ya become a adventurer Bonny?" Colt taking a bite out of the meat. "I'd figure you're from the Knight Order."

"The place wasn't for me. And the incompentent always makes a move that I can't comprehend. We lost to fucking orcs in one incident just because the commander 'thought' is was safe. Got sick of the place.

"Where did you come from? Mirana asked next. "I'd like to know how you became so big."

I was the first child of a noble family at Gosmor. Not opulent but nobles are nobles. "Really?! A gosmian noble?!" Mirana shouted. "I'd never thought a noble would work as adventurer here!"

"Shush. Calm down. If you can could, can you keep that as a secret. Only told that to a select few of people." warning Mirana.

Putting his hand over Mirana's mouth Gus agreed. "Sure Miss Bonny. But wow, a real noble here with us."

"Don't worry about it. I'm as equal as you are now."

"By the way, where's the merchant?" Mirana said, detaching Gus' clutches from her mouth.

"Oh he went to his tent to sleep. He said that he already ate his fill and is gonna hit the sack," Colt addressed.

"Well I guess I should sleep too. It's getting pretty late. The moon's also high up," Mirana said, walking to her own tent as well.

"Miss Bonny you can sleep as well. Me and Colt will take it from here."

"Alright. Wake me up when it's my turn okay?" You say, walking to yours.

"Don't worry." Colt assured. "We'll scream if anythings bad happenin. Sleep tight girls." And with a wave you approach your tent, getting ready to sleep.

>>
Setting your great shield aside the tent, you enter to already see Mirana sleeping. No matter how much she cries out at being grown up, she really does act like a child.

Coming in you take off your helmet, putting it beside you. Positioning yourself in a comfortable way as you lay down. Closing your eyes, you calm down. Waiting your consciousness to fade until you sleep.

-

"Psst, Mirana, Bonny. It's your turn." Colt whispers waking you up. Groggily you lift your head, rubbing your eyes to see more clearly. Before you was Colt's head inside the tent. Waking you up as it was you and Mirana's turn for lookout.

"Looks like you girls had a good sleep," Colt joked. Looking over you see Mirana wrapped around you arms. Being hugged like a pillow.

"Muu...No matter how many times I move about you won't let go!" Mirana pouted. "Seriously! I had to give up and go back to sleep whilst in your arms. You were crushing me."

"Sorry Mirana. I didn't notice you while I was asleep."

"You better be. I would've blasted you with magic if I didn't know better," Mirana frowned, being released from your grasp.

"C'mon girls it's your turn. you can settle it on your lookout," Colt chuckled. "Though it won't be long though. The moon's low and the sun should come up soon."

-

Picking up your greath shield you put your helmet back on. Sitting next to the low fire is Mirana as she rest her head on her hands. Looking over the horizon was the moon hanging low, just like Colt said.

Hours pass as you stay up. Wandering around the site for potential dangers. Everything goes smoothly though as the night passes. No monsters, no bandits.

The dawn rising. The rays of sunlight bright up the sky. Indicating a new day. Walking towards the merchant's and men's tent, you wake them up to continue the day. Asking to clean camp.

-

Packing the tents and putting out the fire. You all make sure the caravan is secure before leaving out. Mirana and Colt sitting in the same spots of the caravan as yesterday. Leaving both you and Gus to walk again.

And off to the second day...

Hearing the rattling of the caravan being strewn by the horses, you all traverse the road towards the bridge connecting Alaraim and Gosmor. Both kingdoms were sturdy, their economies strong since they're two of the biggest kingdoms through the land.

Both containing rich soil and beautiful landscape, they attract many people around the land.

Though the demon lord offers as a threat. A danger to kingdoms such as them. Well that's what the church says. The church has always been a sour note. On one hand they have many, many good people trying to help those in need. On the other though is the corrupt side. Head priest embezzling money, oppresing certain groups of people like beastmen for example.

It certainly happened in the past. And it's something that'll happen again if there isn't a big reform. Sometimes you wonder about what they say, being that the demon lord is evil and such. And must be vanquished at all cost. is he not a king too? A person fighting for his people too?

Deep in thought Colt shouts. Returning you back in reality, "Bandits! Get ready!" And with a sudden stop the caravan freezes. Both Mirana and Colt jumping down from the caravan the go in position ready to meet the enemy.

Immediately Gus joins them at the front of the caravan. Yelling orders, "Colt, Mirana, stay back and offer support. Miss Bonny, I'll need your help staving them off. Colt said there are 6 of them coming ahead of the road!" Processing what Gus said you line up with him at the front as well.

Don't deviate from the plan right from the start. The three of them should already have their own standard tactics when working with each other during combat, so we should adapt ours to suit and not the other way around.

Complication: all the bandits are crossbowmen and are just sitting back in the trees peppering us with bolts.
>>
Joining Gus you take a defensive stance. Slamming your great shield hard into the dirt. All you need to do is occupy them so Colt and Mirana cleans up.

Charging at you are 6 bandits. Four currently assaulting you and Gus with basic shortswords and the remaining two shooting arrows from their crossbows.

Entering combat you withstand their assault. Bashing, bludgeoning, and punching two of the bandits. Zooming through the air the crowbow men give cover. Forcing you to raise your greatshield. Hearing a yell, you snap your head towards the direction of Gus.

While you were busy handling your own pair of bandits, Gus couldn't handle his. Taken by surprise he got attacked from behind while he was occupied himself with one other bandit.

Currently you've killed two. And Gus is presently being cornered by the other two, disarmed and bleeding from the back. Seeing this Colt leaves Mirana who was chanting her spell. Dashing towards Gus to assist him, dagger in hand.

>>

I personally imagine our greatshield to be more like a tower shield than a kite shield, and a shield throw to be more akin to heaving a large boulder than throwing it Captain America-style.

But given what has been said about our size and strength, I would imagine it could still fuck someone up. And if not, it would serve as a distraction to buy us time to close the distance.

But I hope we end getting a weapon soon so that we don't end up running around punching everything. Do we have a knife?

I'm hoping we can get a warhammer or something that's not a sword eventually

I've already expressed my thinking behind Bonny having made the choice to not wield a weapon in >>2729243 and >>2729313 - but of course those are my own ideas and not remotely canon.

We clearly need a greatclub to complete our Havel's set. The fact that the majority of Yuugi art that features her with a weapon has her using a kanabo may also be a consideration.

Noticing the potential threat of the crossbows you get an idea. You barely have any range at all but you do have a great shield.

Grabbing the top side, you pivot. Thowing it towards the general direction of the two bandits.

Flying through the air it hits one of the them. The force and mass hitting him square in the chest, leaving a dead body under a shield too heavy to lift. In horror the remaining one blew a whistle. Scrambling away from the body.

Turning towards Gus, you sprint to help. Yelling Colt to assist Mirana instead, "Colt, Stay with Mirana! Can't risk her getting shot or ambushed!" Hearing your command, he stops in his tracks. Hesitating for a moment he nods his head, running back in position by Mirana.

We threw 'em at the two bandits with crossbows providing covering fire. We're taling about the two bandits attacking Gus.

>>2735042
We have a knife. But it's small and mostly used for harvesting animal parts, herbs, and whatnot.
>>
>>2735118
Ah, my bad. In that case,
>Strike one of them with your gauntlet

Cover one of Gus' flanks and hope he can defend his other while we rush this one down. Trying anything too fancy might just end up getting him killed.
>>
Lunging towards the closest person, you punch as hard as you can with your gauntlet. Striking the neck, the bandit's body flies aside with an audible *CRUNCH*.

Shocked by the sudden force caused by your strike, the remaining one runs. Blowing a whistle as well.

Giving a hand out to Gus he shakily pulls himself up. Laying his arm over your shoulder, you help him back at the caravan.

With a shout Colt alerted us, "More is coming! Two more are making their way here and they don't look like anything we just fought."

Hurriedly you take Gus to the side, meeting the merchant, "Don't worry about him, I'll patch him up. Deal with the news ones okay?" The merchant quickly said, starting to bandage Gus' injuries.

Running back to the front you see the new enemy. Two big burly men, both carrying large sabers. Steadily approaching the caravan.

"STAND DOWN!" one of them yells. "GIVE US THE GOODS AND WE'LL LET YA GO! YOU REALLY DID A BIG NUMBER ON OUR MEN WITH THAT WIZARD OF YOURS!"

More to keep the two away from the caravan, and anyone who won't hold up in close quarters, than any sort of pride.

Tell Mirana to watch for an opening. If she uses her magic too early, it'll single her out as a target, and they'll probably try to rush her. She should wait till she's certain she can take at least one of them down before attacking.
>>
>>2735196
We dont have our shield so her thowing magic at them will give us time to go get it
>>
>>2735210
Fair enough reasoning. I'll switch to >>2735173 if it'll avoid a tie. We'll have to make sure Colt is keeping a close guard on Mirana when we're away from her, of course.
>>
"Colt do you see anyone else but them?"

"No. They're the last of em."

"Okay. Stay with Mirana so you can keep her secure. Mirana, I want you to fire magic. Look for an opening while I go fight them, yes?"

"Umu, yes I got it. Any specifications on magic though?" Mirana questions.

"Anything. As long as you kill one or both of them," you instructed. And in response Mirana nodded in agreement. After formulating a plan you go on and approach to what seems the present bandit leaders. The left wearing a wolf pelt while the right wears a bear.

"So you're gonna resist huh? Well that'll be unfortunate since there'll be two of us to worry about," the one with the wolf pelt left chortled.

"Trust me I'm all you're gonna get. And the only ones here leaving is that caravan with your stout bodies on the side of the road," spitting back a response.

"Ho, we got a feisty one here! Then how about this!" the bandit leader on the right said before swinging his saber down.

I got to say throwing our shield was a bad idea. It worked but it still doesn't mean it wasn't stupid.
>>

Dodge into him or parry with our gauntlet, and grapple.

His saber's primary advantages are its reach and its ability to thrust at weak points in our armor. By getting up in his face and not giving him room to aim at those points, and especially if we can disarm him, we deprive him of these advantages.

Also, if we're close in with this guy, his comrade will hopefully be more wary of attempting to make an attack into the melee.

>>2735251
My write-in was specifically to throw the shield at the bandits beside Gus, with the intention that it would be close by and easy to pick it up again once we'd dealt with the two of them. Not quite sure how it ended up being thrown at the crossbowmen.

Quickly you dodged the incoming strike, shifting closer to the bear leader.

Grabbing a hold of his arms, you pull him over you. Sending him crashing into the dirt head first. Injuring his head in the process, kocking him out. Leaving a dent on the skull that either means that he's dead or gravely wounded.

Right away the wolf leader strikes as well. Slashing at you in a flurry.

"YOU'D PAY FOR THAT!" He yells, as he assaults you. Forcing your movements to dodge him due to how crudely fast his swing are.

Occupying him, you held his attention. Keeping him oblivious to Mirana who was finishing casting. And a while longer she's ready to go. A orange hue floating above her head.

"Bonny! Hold him still!" Mirana shouted. As a big snake of flame launched towards both of you.

Switching his attention, the leader saw the incoming firesnake, making a attempt to dodge. But that sliver of distraction gave you the time to finish the job.

Right before he was about to lunge, you grab a hold of his arms. Using him as a shield against the incoming firesnake. Screaming, he tried to shake you off but to no avail. The snake colliding against him, a wave of heat and flames blanketing before you.

The heat subsiding you look at the aftermath. The bandit leader's body charred to the bone, black covering the front of his body. A rough texture accompanying the burnt skin.

Dropping the corpse aside you went to regain your great shield, picking it up from the previous body of another bandit you threw it at.

Coming back to the caravan you check the everyone else. Gus sitting inside, bandages convering his body.

"Great job!" Gus congratulated. "You pummeled them one after another."

"Thanks. But it wouldn't work if Mirana and Colt didn't stave off the cooks," you say in response. "But right now we need to get moving while we have time."

"On it," the merchant said as he climbed to man the horses.
Wasting no time Mirana and Colt went to their usual spot on the caravan as well, leaving this place as fast as we can.
