Your breath feels tight in your throat as this inhuman monster towers over you. Each heartbeat feels like a drum pounding in your chest. “What do you have to offer me?” he repeats. The knot in the back of your mind that you associate with your powers thrums in response, daring to be used, but the rest reminds you that he doesn’t know. That thought brings you a semblance of calm. Fueled by adrenaline, you speak without really thinking.

“The way I see it, you need my silence. It’s less what I can offer you and more how much is my silence worth to you. Ten thousand dollars sounds reasonable.” His hand in on your throat in seconds. “You are either remarkably brave or stupid, intruder. If you planned to alert the Protectorate, you would have already done so. I can ensure you and the thief don’t talk right now.” shitshitshitshitshit, wait you have an idea. “Dead man’s switch,” you groan through your slowly constricting throat and the pressure eases.

You cough and gasp for breath as he releases you, massaging your sore neck. “I set up a dead man’s switch to send everything I knew to the PRT if I didn’t regularly check in,” you get out. You can’t see his expression through his chitinous mask, but he seems to be regarding you in a new light. “Clever. Very well, intruder - ten thousand for your silence. I’ll inform the thief to give you the money, as well as an offer for employment if you wish for more.” He turns away and you gratefully take the dismissal for what it is. Before you can leave, he offers one more comment. “I will not be so generous if you cross me again, intruder.”

The other villain, Scoundrel you think, heads back in as you exit and you hear the two talking as you gulp in blessedly gore-free air. In short order the other teen comes back out, gives you an appraising look and motions you to follow him back to the car. “Might as well tell me your address now, boss wants me to keep an eye on you for a while just in case, and we both know I’ll be able to find out anyways. I’ll drop you off there and give you your money. Oh, and this.” He hands you a phone. Wait, that’s your phone! When did he even take that? You quickly open it, thirteen missed calls from Dad. He’s gonna be pissed.

This, I've had a long enough day. (And we didn't even get to wear panty mask on 50+ clones.)
>>

“So, uh…”

“Just take me home, please. I’ve had a long day.” He clams up at that and drives in silence. Just before you reach the city limits he pulls over, produces a paper bag from nowhere, and fills it with rubber-banded stacks of bills, also pulled out of nothing, presumably thanks to his powers. He also gives you a phone number along with a name, Sean MacKinnon, and tells you he’ll be in touch as you pull up near your house.

Any attempt you might have made to sneak in unnoticed is immediately smashed when you open the door, as your father is pacing nervously at the entrance. He pulls you into a crushing hug, seemingly torn between worry and anger. With you not in any apparent danger, anger wins. “Michael Simpson, I have been calling you for the last two hours with no response, what do you have to say for yourself?”

"Metahumans are fucking retarded. All I can say about it, here's your money back."
If he asks more just throw a thousand at him.

"Sis can stay up late doing God knows what and I have to check in every hour with you, did you get our genders switched old man? I was busy "

The fucking balls on our family

Answer anger with anger

You shuffle your feet and mutter, “Something came up, it kept me busy and I lost track of time.” You reach for your wallet to give him back the money you got for the mall, but he stops you. “I’ve been worried sick and all you give me is ‘I was busy?’ That’s not going to cut it, mister.”

Indignation wells up inside you. “Beth stays out half the night no problem, but I don’t check in every hour like some kind of prisoner and I get in trouble? How’s that fair?” You don’t think you’ve ever seen Dad this angry. “This isn’t about fairness,” he thunders, “it’s about responsibility! Your sister is almost an adult, and if she’s going to be late she tells me how much and why. And since won’t act like a responsible adult, you’re grounded until further notice.”

All your frustrations - from your sister talking down to you, from the harrowing parahuman bullshit you just went through, and now from your dad treating you like a child - boil inside you, needing an outlet, and your dad is making himself a good target. “You never cared when mom was irresponsible, why start now?” Your father stops, and all emotion drains from his face. “Go to your room.” His voice is a hoarse whisper. “NOW!”

Without waiting for a response, he walks away and locks himself in his office. For better or for worse, this conversation is over for now. You head to your room and start hiding away your money.

All i can think to get better is maybe hitting the gym and getting a personal trainer so we can make our clones stronger.

Look up where to buy all the stuff needed to build something crazy that cape /diy/ could come up with. Then go to sleep.
>>

The next hour or so is spent looking up gadgets and equipment that you might be able to use while caping. While a lot of the cool homemade stuff is a bit too complex for you to make yourself, a thread started by an independent hero provides a few helpful bits of advice, namely that zip ties and duct tape can solve almost any problem in sufficient quantities, and that military surplus is a cheaper alternative to professionally made cape gear.

It seems unlikely that you’ll find someone to make high tech stuff for you. Most of it is made by tinkers, people whose powers revolve around building things, and most of them are either recruited by the PRT or press ganged into working for someone almost instantly after being discovered. If you’re willing to talk to Scoundrel, he might be able to hook you up, but you’d most likely have to tell him about your powers. Your last thought as you go to bed is that if you should start working out. Being jacked would help you get girls. Also, surviving cape fights. That’s probably important, too.

Calling the next morning awkward would be a massive understatement. Dad looks like he hasn’t slept at all and barely says a word. Beth is glaring at you like it’s entirely your fault. At school, your friends notice how tense you are, but unsure how to address it, dance around the issue. For once, your sister doesn’t have ‘tutoring’ after school, and joins you in the car when your dad comes to pick you up. He seems to have picked himself back up a bit and tells you that he’s sorry for losing his temper with you, but you’re still grounded. Dinner is a silent affair, and everyone heads back to their rooms when the table is clear.

[This is probably the last update tonight, I’m about to pass out. I’ll try to post tomorrow, but might be busy with family stuff]

We should go with a clone and have him spot us.
>>
>>2703308
I think we would be better off with a personal trainer for that.
A better use for a clone would be to stay in bed and appear like we never left for dads grounding
>>
>>2703071

>Sneak out tonight

Leave a clone behind in case we get checked on.
>>
>>2703071
Gym time also go with a clone they will think we are twins and maybe exercising with a clone might train us someway

[Not dead, sister had a baby so I've been busy with family stuff. Fo shizzle running on Thursday.]

>Go to the gym
Does this count as "sneaking out?"
Just imagine an army of swole clones though
>>
>>2715556
This brought up some questions for me... I'm assuming that if we get swole, any clones we make will be swole. But what if we have a clone getting swole? Does that make us swole? Can we just have a clone who spends all day getting jacked, and we reap the benefits of that with no effort?
>>
>>2715927
I was thinking since we can't feel their pain we can't get their gains, like how we didn't instantly know what the clone we made do the cape research knew.
>>
[Sorry guys, but something came up so no thread today. Fortunately, I have most of next week off so thread on monday and tuesday.]
