You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

Currently, you were confronting Elias directly about a pair of suspicious Mage Knights that had been skulking around Eisenwand, and even tried to attack you and Morgan. It seemed that the Archmagus did indeed know something, but the question was, how much?

"Truth be told, the Mage Guild has been keeping quite a close eye on Nino's... relations with you and your group." Elias' eyes smolder. "I think you would know why."

"They're afraid of her associating with Templars?" Morgan blinks.

"They've made no secret of the dim view of magic they hold, or at least how we utilize it." Elias replies. "And despite being so young, Nino already has quite the grasp on advanced magical techniques, especially some nobody outside the Mage Guild is ever supposed to know. If such valuable secrets were to fall into the hands of the Templars..."

"It would be very bad for the Mages." Morgan concludes.

"Correct." Elias nods. "And as you should have learned by now, we Mages treasure our secrets."

You just step forward with slight menace.

"So you mean the Mages have had Mage Knights tailing us all this time?" Morgan asks for you.

"No, I was put in charge of observing Nino's status." Elias answers. "These... increased measures are more recent. I believe that the combination of Nino's faster than expected growth and her 'incident' has caused the other Archmagi to give her much closer scrutiny."

You cross your arms sternly. You'd rather these Mages back off and let you handle things.

"I know you're angry, but that's just how it is." Elias sighs, his eyes flickering.

"Can't you call them off?" Morgan wonders.

"It's beyond my authority to do so." Elias shakes his head. "They've been sent here under another Archmagus' orders. It's not as simple as telling them to go away."

You turn your glare to Elias again. So you had to deal with these damn Mage Knights hounding and attacking you?

"Now, to be perfectly fair, from what it sounds like, they were only attacking you since they feared you would attack them." Elias explains. "My best advice is to keep your distance from them, and not to let Nino out of your sight."

"Why would we have to worry about Nino?" Morgan scowls.

"Depending on who's sending their orders, they could be looking for a chance to, erm, 'rescue' her from your clutches." Elias says rather awkwardly. "After all, from the Mages' point of view, this all looks terribly awkward. But they're very unlikely to make a move until they're absolutely sure they have to."

Step up or step off. There shall be no games, no dodging about or any nonsense. Not at this hour. And should Nino be "rescued," a much greater problem would arise for ALL mages. So itd be in Elias's best interest to do all he can to help.

You take a menacing step toward Elias and crack your knuckles, letting the Archmagus know that you wouldn't be tolerating any interference from the Mages. And if they felt that the current situation was "awkward", then you were more than willing to make it even more awkward for them.

"I... understand." Elias replies. If his odd skull head could sweat, you were pretty certain it would be doing so at this point. "Don't worry. I'm not responsible for the well being of any Mage Knights not directly under my command, so if anything were to happen to them, I wouldn't be obligated to assist."

"Thanks for your understanding." Morgan nods.

"I'm sorry that I can't be of more help, but my hands are tied on this matter." Elias says to you.

You suppose Elias' promise of non-interference would suffice for now. The last thing you needed was the Twins coming after you again over some misplaced grudge. You give Elias one simple nod to let him know you understand.

"Well, best of luck to you two." Elias says, his eyes flashing. "I think all of us need it in these dark days."

"Thanks." Morgan responds.

The two of you then take the portal back out of the Tower grounds. Once you were some distance away, you look at Morgan, wondering if she really believed Elias' words 100%.

"Of course not." Morgan rolls her eyes. "But I know Elias wouldn't go out of his way to screw us over, either."

Well, suppose that was the best you were going to get.

"So, what do we do about Solaire?" Morgan asks you as the two of you head for the city gate. "It's already pretty late in the day. Maybe head out after him at first light?"

You nod back at the Monastery. You'll wait until the morning to go out and look for Solaire.

"Sure thing." Morgan nods as the both of you pass through the gate and start trekking across the field. Up ahead, you could see the camp still expanding and being built up, as more tents and temporary structures and perimeter defenses have been erected. On the outer edges of the camp, there are still cityfolk and a few Paladins milling about, continuing to ogle at the sight of the Templar war camp.

The sentries at the entrance don't make any move to stop you or Morgan as you walk through towards the Monastery. You were a fellow Templar, after all, and you presence seemed to give Morgan a free pass, though you could she was still a bit anxious in their company.

"So, I do have an idea." Morgan says as the two of you reach the front gate of the Monastery. "I'm thinking that since we don't have time to waste, we could just take Engel and fly to the quest area. Find Solaire that way."

You look to Morgan and rap a knuckle on your armor. Could Engel handle the weight?

"He can carry me easy." Morgan nods. "I... I think he should be able to carry you, but Engel can only fit two people at the most."

You nod at Morgan's suggestion. Speed was key here, and having your own flying mount was a great boon on that front.

You just shrug. Engel's a big bird. He should be able to handle it.

"Heh, I suppose you're right. He's still a war beast, after all." Morgan chuckles.

As the two of you walk through the halls, though, you pass through the main hall and you could see Lucina, Havel, Ozen, and Helbrecht surrounding a table, looking at some sort of paper. A document? A map? You weren't too sure.

Honestly, you were a bit surprised that Lucina was still here. Was she talking with Helbrecht the entire day?

"Huh, wonder what they're talking about...?" Morgan muses.

You change your course and instead start heading over to the meeting table where Lucina and the other Templar leaders are gathered. You were actually a bit interested to see what they were discussing.

"Oh, it's good to see you're back!" Lucina smiles as you approach.

"Templar." Havel nods to you.

"Hi there." Morgan says a bit sheepishly as she follows you, still a bit intimidated by the presence of these mighty Templar legends.

"We were just discussing the logistics of our defense." Helbrecht says sternly as he points to he map. "You're familiar with the land, yes?"

You just shrug. You had a general idea, but nothing in depth. You point to Morgan instead, who had far better knowledge than you.

"Ah, well." Helbrecht continues, pointing to the map again to gain your attention. "As you should know, there's one primary road that connects Eisenwand to the Central Kingdoms. It is this road that serves as the main artery of trade between the Frontier and the civilized lands."

You nod.

"Obviously, control of this artery would be of great strategic importance." Havel adds. "It will allow us to keep trade open with outside kingdoms as well as keep a steady flow of supplies and reinforcements from the rest of the Templar Order. On the other hand, if some hostile faction were to cut the road, we'd be left to fend for ourselves."

"Which is why it is important we start setting up outposts and checkpoints on the road right away." Helbrecht says grimly. "Princess, this is something that must be done."

"I know, but..." Lucina pause and sighs. "The people are already on edge as it is, seeing a Templar army camped out outside the walls. To them, they don't see defenders, but potential besiegers. If we start placing Templars on the main road, it could give them the wrong idea..."

"And the Paladins wouldn't take kindly to it, either." Havel warns. "It's their duty to keep the roads open in times of peace."

"Are you saying we're in a time of peace?" Ozen chuckles.

"From the Paladins' point of view, it is." Havel retorts.

Seems like the decision was split between Lucina and Havel opposing Ozen and Helbrecht's strategy. Which would mean-

"What would you do, Templar?" Helbrecht turns his gaze to you. "You know our ways and the local peoples'."

Of course, you would be used as the tie breaker.

You nod to Lucina. It was important to let the people you were defending to know that they were being defended, not attacked.

"Thank you." Lucina smiles.

"I suppose that settles it, then." Havel says.

"A risky move, but interesting." Ozen chuckle darkly.

"Then we would have to put our faith in the Paladins not to interfere." Helbrecht grunts. "Something I am not entirely comfortable with."

"Well, if it's any consolation, we're going out to look for Solaire in the morning." Morgan informs him. "Maybe he can convince the Paladins to back off?"

"Possible, but the Grand Master does not hold the sway he used to." Helbrecht sighs. "His age and his... eccentricities have not been doing him any favors."

"Better the Templars and Paladins going to war on my doorstep." Lucina retorts. "Morgan, Templar, you go do whatever you have to."

"Perhaps this is where we should adjourn." Helbrecht concludes. "There are still many preparations we must attend to."

"Very well." Havel nods.

"I suppose..." Ozen shrugs.

You pat Morgan on the head and pull her hood back, pointing to her ears. Lucina frowns for a brief second before her mind makes the connection to what you're asking.

"Oh, you want to know how Janice and Artya are doing?" Lucina laughs. "Well, they're currently part of my parents' court as diplomats and advisors, but we're planning to open a proper embassy for them in the city. It's always nice to know there are friendly tribes out there in the Frontier we can count on!"

"And uh, they're behaving themselves, right?" Morgan asks. "They can get pretty... unpredictable at times."

You step forward and put a hand on Lucina's shoulder and give her an understanding look. You point to yourself and then to Lucina. If she ever got bored with Artya...

"ThankyouverymuchI'llbegoingnow!" Lucina yelps as she makes her escape. You swear she cast some sort of speed spell on herself, considering just how quickly she blasted down the hall.

You then feel a sudden impact as Morgan slaps the back of your helmet. She scowls at you before stomping off back to your quarters, her tail flicking in annoyance.

Guess she didn't appreciate that joke.

Nope, as payback, she demands having six kids of the wolf, dragon, or human variety to ensure Templar won't flirt with other women.

You suppose you should go apologize to Morgan. After all, you had forgotten how... "possessive" she could be. You head off after her and reach your quarters. However, as you open the door, you see that she's not there.

Damn, guess she ran off somewhere else...

You get the feeling that Morgan had taken off into the forest. Or at least, what was left of the forest. It was always her go to place when she wanted to be alone.

You stride out of the Monastery, and remember that the entire area was now just a giant camp for thousands of Templars. Perhaps finding Morgan wouldn't be as easy as you had assumed...

Unfortunately, as you stride out of the Monastery and into the camp area, you can't find any trace of Morgan. Looks like she truly did not want to be disturbed this time. Thwarted, at least for now, you turn around and return to the Monastery

Well, you suppose you could go check on Nino. After all, Naru couldn't keep watch over her at all hours of the day. You turn around and head back into the Monastery. Even if you couldn't find her, Morgan was perfectly capable of taking care of herself.

Naturally, you head back to the library, and almost unsurprisingly, you find Nino already fast asleep atop a pile of opened and half read books. You wonder if she actually found what she was looking for or not.

Still, maybe you should move her somewhere more proper than on the library floor.

You decide to take Nino back to her room. You never for a moment believed that floor of the library was a good place to sleep, and you gingerly pick up Nino. You do a quick check to see if she was wearing the special power limiter Elias had given you, and you are relieved to see it hanging around her neck. Guess she could still be counted on listening when it mattered.

As you walk through the halls of the Monastery with Nino in your arms, you're reminded that you're no longer the only inhabitant of the Monastery. Far from it. You pass by a few other Templars, who give you curious glances, but you pay them no heed.

However, there was an encounter of note, where you happened to pass by both Helbrecht and Ozen as they were discussing yet another war matter. Both them pause when they see you holding Nino in your arms. You stop as well, wondering what they would do.

Helbrecht gives you a hard stare, and his eyes then fall upon the little Mage girl in your arms. For a brief moment, you're concerned his glare would set Nino on fire or something equally childishly silly.

"Carry on, Templar." Helbrecht grunts as he continues on his way.

Ozen just gives an amused smile and wave as she follows the High Marshal.

Helbrecht's tone of voice, you note, was much lower and quieter than normal. Was he actually being careful not to wake Nino?

Perhaps he wasn't as hard hearted as the stories had led you the believe.

Regardless, you continue on to Nino's quarters, opening the door and setting her down on her bed.

You decide to stay with Nino, just in case. You never knew what sort of dastardly evildoer could try to do with Nino alone. Even with an entire army of Templars just outside, you only felt truly at ease when you or one of your party were present with Nino.

And with that, you take a seat next to Ninos bed and stand vigil, at least as long as you could before your own eyes begin to feel heavy...

>And that's it for tonight! There won't be a thread next week since I'll be taking the July 4th weekend off! However, I might run a special summer thread on July 3rd to make up for it, so stay tuned! We should be back to the regular schedule the week after!
