"We should turn back, it’s too dangerous to track a coven at night." Nikolai whispers in an uneasy voice as the woods begin to grow dark around you.

"Is your faith so fragile that you’re afraid of a little dark, Nikolai?” Dmitri smiles. A cruel smile that looks odd on his handsome face.

You keep silent as the two soldiers continue to argue. Nikolai is the only one to speak his fears out loud, but you all share his unease.

“There be witches in the forest, milord, they the ones that been killin’ and eatin’ all them merchants!” The peasants had said in a trembling voice when you inquired about the disappearances and pointed you towards the forest.

None of the peasants dared accompany you to the forest, too afraid of the witches and the demons they are known to serve.

You have twelve soldiers with you, all hardened men on horseback. But even the horses have been skittish since you entered this foggy forest.

>You are Prince Ivan, the youngest son of the Tsar. Your father has tasked you to investigate the disappearances of merchants traveling through his lands.

>You are Commander Vasily, the captain of the Tsar’s personal guards. The Tsar has ordered you find those responsible for the disappearances of merchants traveling through his lands.

>You are Father Matthew, a veteran witch hunter from another land. You have been hired by the Tsar to hunt down the witches and heretics hiding in his lands.

>You are Lord Vladimir, a minor nobleman who pays tribute to the Tsar. You need to investigate the disappearances of merchants traveling through your lands.

You are Lord Vladimir, a minor nobleman who pays tribute to the Tsar. You need to investigate the disappearances of merchants traveling through your lands.

“Lord Vladimir, we should return to the village and resume the hunt tomorrow with more men.” Nikolai asks in a frightened voice.

You notice the old soldier’s hands trembling as he tries to steady his horse. You also hear wolves howling deeper in the dark forest.

“And give the witches a chance to escape? No, Nikolai, we need to find these heathen women by tonight. Some of them has to be young and pretty, we can have a lot of fun interrogating them all night.” Dmitri licks his lips hungrily.

“We setup camp for the night and resume the hunt tomorrow, the fire should keep the beasts away. Also stop thinking with your cock, Dmitri, it’ll get you killed,” You admonish the young soldier, “Lay with a witch? You are either mad or a fool.”

“It’s all right if we burn them at the stake afterwards, my lord.” Dmitri says with a cruel smile on his face, “I used to hunt witches with the Tsar’s men before I came to your service. We took turns fucking the heathen women all night and then burned them at the stake in the morning. Never ran into any trouble, ever.”

“Has it never occurred to you that those women might not actually have been witches? If they were, things would have gone very differently for you and your friends.” Mikhail says in a whisper. You notice the grey eyed soldier clutching a crucifix and muttering a silent prayer.

“I think you are just scared, friend, or maybe you a have limp cock,” Dmitri mocks him and turns to you for support, “Lord Vladimir, allow me to take a few man with me and go deeper into the forest. We’ll find the witches for you, before they have any chance to escape.”

“You can take two other soldiers, I’m not risking more men.” You order the young soldier, “I don’t want you to fight them, just find them and come back.”

“I’ll not disappoint you, my lord.” Dmitri says with a pleased smile on his handsome face. He then picks two of his friends to accompany him and leaves the campsite.

-

After Dmitri and the two other soldiers leave, you look around the campsite. The remaining soldiers are talking in whispers, a few nervous laughs here and there.

You feel cold, the campfire providing very little warmth somehow. You walk around the campsite, trying to fight the sense of growing unease.

You notice something moving in the dark. You move closer to see a feral black cat that hisses at you with clear malice.

You call your soldiers over and move closer to investigate. The black cat hisses at you again with pure hatred in its glowing eyes.

Your soldiers look nervous, even they know the superstitions about demons shape-shifting into black cats and serving witches as their familiars.

As you move closer, the hisses turn into growls too loud for a cat that size. You sense that there is something very wrong about this beast.

You hear Nikolai praying as the black cat lunges at you with unnatural speed. It was little larger than a housecat when you first saw it, but now it was almost as big as a grown man.

You lunge at the beast and try to wrestle it to the ground. It proves far stronger than you had expected and shakes you off easily.

The beast tries to rip your throat off, but you barely manage to survive by pushing it back with your sword, though you fail to injure the beast at all.

Your soldiers are even less fortunate as one of them has his guts ripped out by the beast's twisted claws. The man screams in agony as the beast pulls out his entrails deliberately.

It then lunges towards another one of your soldiers and rips out his throat like nothing. The beast does not stop to feed and lunges at you again, intent on ripping you apart this time.

You try to throw your cloak at the beast and sidestep away from its lunge. But the beast lunges at you with its unnatural speed, like it was some otherworldly horror merely pretending to be an animal.

You feel a sharp pain as the beast bites through your throat. You try to scream but only gargle blood as the light fades from your eyes.

In your last moments, you think you hear the sound of a woman laughing.

-

The beast shifts back to its smaller catlike form and runs back into the dark forest after Lord Vladimir stops moving.

The nobleman's mangled corpse stared at the night sky with empty eyes, utter terror and agony transfixed on his face.

"Bloody hell, we are all going to die here, aren't we?" One of the soldiers says in a terrified voice, he had pissed his breeches when the beast lunged towards them.

"We need to run! The witches will kill us all if we don't!" Nikolai says in a hysterical voice.

"Lord Vladimir brought us here to hunt down the witches, we'll finish the job one way or another. That's the only way we can honor his memory." You say in a stubborn voice, clutching your crucifix for strength.

"There's only seven of us left. Dmitri and the others are probably dead too. What are we going to do, Mikhail?" Sasha says in an uneasy whisper, the large heavily bearded man looks almost afraid to speak.

I know what you are feeling, Sasha, I have felt the same way before, a hundred times. Your breath is coming faster as it should. in your belly, a feeling of dread coils like a cold black worm, you feel as though you need to empty your bladder, remove your bowels, Your mouth is as dry as the cold bleak wind of the oblast, what if you shame yourself, you wonder.. what if you forget your training? what if.... You yearn to be hero but deep down inside you fear you might just be a craven, every boy feels the same way in the eve of battle, aye and grown men aswell, Nikolai is feeling the same thing, so as dmitri.

There's no shame in fear, Unless you let it master you. We all taste terror in our time but take care that you don't forget you duty because of it. whatever may befall us in this forest, we die in service of our state, to keep our families, our wives, sisters, brothers, sons, and daughters secure and safe and we die in the service of our lord. No one but God himself can take that duty away from you.

"We'll move deeper into the forest and avenge the lord." You say stubbornly, “I know what you are feeling, Sasha, I have felt the same way before, a hundred times. Your breath is coming faster as it should. “I have a family, Mikhail.” Sasha says in an ashamed voice, “My daughter is four years old and my wife is again heavy with child. I know that it’s our duty to do as the lord ordered, but I’m scared that I’ll never see my family again.”

“There's no shame in fear, unless you let it master you.” You reply, “We all taste terror in our time but take care that you don't forget you duty because of it. The other soldiers also look afraid, but they do not protest when you tell them to move deeper into the forest. It seems they were somewhat emboldened by your speech.

"What should we do with his body, Mikhail?" Sasha again asks you for advice. The bearded man tries not to look at Lord Vladimir’s corpse, perhaps ashamed by his failure to protect him.

>We'll bury him here, that is the least we can do for him

"We'll carry his body back with us and return it to his family," You say in a firm voice. You will perform your duty to your lord loyally, even if the man is dead.

Lord Vladimir's mangled corpse was wrapped in a blanket and carried by Sasha and another soldier. You may have failed to protect his life, but you will definitely return his body to his family.

-

As you move deeper into the forest, you hear unusual sounds – the howls of beasts unlike any you have ever heard before, heavy footsteps that sounds like they belong to giants, and what sounds like the shrill laughter of young women.

Nikolai moves his lips silently, too scared to even whisper the prayers. You clutch your crucifix tightly, it had belonged to your mother and she had told you that it would protect you from the servants of evil. You will need all the help you can get if you want to avenge your lord.

As you move deeper into the forest, you notice a vaguely humanoid figure moving unnaturally in the shadow. The monster is a mockery of the human frame, with long twisted limbs that reminds you of tree branches instead of arms or legs.

You mutter a curse when you notice the skulls the monster wore as trophies. So this is where the merchants ended up, or at least where some of them did.

The monster burns like dry twigs when you and the other soldiers set it on fire with your torches.

It tries in vain to rip you apart with its twisted claws, but you are careful to stay out of its reach.

"Whatever this thing was, it's dead. This forest should be a little safer for merchants now." You sigh in relief when only ashes remained of the monster.

-

As you and the other soldiers move deeper into the forest, you are confronted with a scene out of a horrific nightmare.

The corpses of Dmitri and the other two soldiers stood against three oak trees, their own entrails were used to tie them in place.

You struggle not to vomit when you notice that Dmitri's genitals were cut off and forced into his mouth, the handsome young soldier's face was forever frozen with the purest fear and agony.

Nikolai bends down and begins to vomit. You cannot really blame him, the witches' ritual is too repulsive for any sane mind to comprehend.

”Just let me die, please!” A faint whisper brings you back to reality. You feel disturbed when you realize that one of the soldiers tied to the oak tree was somehow still alive.

“It's us, man, you are safe now,” You try to comfort the dying soldier, his face was hideously mutilated with the eyes gouged out, “What happened to you, Sergei?”

“We found them, the witches,” Sergei whispers deliriously, “All young and pretty, naked with full breasts. They were dancing around the fire, Mikhail, laughing and touching each other sinfully, chanting blasphemies.”

“Lord Vladimir ordered you only to scout,” Nikolai says in a distraught voice, “You should have come back to camp when you found the coven!”

“Dmitri said they were just women,” Sergei coughs blood, “Unarmed and ripe for picking. Dmitri took his sword and rushed into the witches’ gathering and we followed him like fools. He told the women that they would burn for their heathen blasphemies, unless they pleasured us all night.”

“You laid with the witches?” Sasha looks utterly disgusted, “The lord warned you not to think with your cocks, man!”

“Dmitri said that the lord was a limp cock old man,” Sergei’s voice was growing weaker, “And that no one would never know if we laid with the heathen women. But our strength left us when we started fucking them, the witches laughed and rode us till we were empty. Then they hurt us, Sasha, oh they hurt us so much!”

You feel nauseous when you see the true extent of torture inflicted on the three soldiers. Their flesh is as shriveled up as those of old men. It looks like the witches drained them of their youth completely and then tortured them for amusement.

“The witches spoke of heart trees,” Sergei struggles to speak, “That our blood would feed them forever. Is Lord Vladimir with you, Mikhail? He must know about this.”

“He is,” You pretend that the lord is still alive to comfort the blind soldier, “Tell him what you know, Sergei, we’ll avenge you and the others.”

“The witches worship the black goat, milord,” Sergei says with his dying breath, “They have been laying with demons and birthing abominations, monsters that can shape-shift into animals. They are the ones that have been sacrificing and eating all them merchants, milord. The heart trees make their magic stronger, you need to burn those down. Please tell my mother that….that…”

Sergei stops twitching, finally dead from the abuse the witches inflicted on him.

“We need to burn these oak trees down,” You tell the other soldiers, they look just as disturbed as you feel yourself, “Let the witches know what we think of their heathen rituals!”

Nikolai prays loudly as you and the others set the oak trees on fire one by one. The trees almost feel alive somehow, like twisted abominations animated with the pain of men sacrificed to the black goat.

"Stay near the traps," You tell the other soldiers who are beginning to grow restless, "Keep an ear out for the wolves, but do not stray into the dark. Stick to the plan."

After a few tense moments, the howls start again. This time louder and growing closer. You remember the stories your mother told you when you were younger, how witches can curse children and turn them into monstrous wolves.

When you were older, you heard a more disturbing version of the tale, which claims that covens of witches lay with dogs and wolves in sinful orgies in the forest, and birth half-human abominations to serve as their familiars.

You remember a third tale, which claims that witches summon shape-shifting demons to serve as their familiars, and that these demons feed on the flesh of young children and violate peasant girls lost in the witches' forest.

The first tale claims that the cursed children can only be killed using silver, the second tale claims that the half-human abominations must be beheaded with swords made of iron, the third tale claims that only fire and prayer can send the demons back to hell.

“What the hell is that thing?” One of the soldiers shouts as a monstrous wolf-like creature finally comes out of the shadows. Its eyes glow like orbs of light and it howls louder than any wolf you have ever seen before.

"Draw your swords and lead the wolf to one of the traps we set up," You tell the men, "Behead it if you can, I'll see if I can find some silver in the lord's pockets."

Sasha nods and leads the other soldiers towards the wolf. He used to be a huntsman before becoming a soldier for Lord Vladimir, he knows all there is to know about leading animals to traps.

You feel relieved when the monstrous wolf turns out to be no smarter than a common beast, as Sasha and the other soldiers easily lead it to one of the pits you had dug for the purpose.

You mutter an apology to the deceased lord as you ransack his pockets searching for silver. You praise your luck when you find a small pouch full of silver coins hidden deep in his pockets.

You grab as many silver coins as you can and run towards the other soldiers. The beast has almost pulled itself out of the pit, snarling at your men all the while.

You throw the silver coins directly into its mouth, praying that the legends of wolves being vulnerable to silver is true. Your prayers seem to be answered as the wolf howls in agony.

While the wolf is disoriented, you and the other soldiers draw your swords and try to behead it. Two of the soldiers are injured when the wolf manages to scratch them with its razor-sharp claws.

Still you struggle forward and the monstrous wolf is finally beheaded by your swords. You nearly collapse from exhaustion by the time the beast stops moving.

You and the other soldiers were nursing your wounds when a scantily clad woman came out from somewhere deeper in the forest. She had pale skin, full breasts and childbearing hips.

“So you are the ones who killed my son,” The pale woman says in an arrogant but not entirely displeased voice, “I thought your lord was dead, should you not be running back to the village by now?”

“We stayed to avenge our lord, witch!” You say through gritted teeth, “You and your sisters will burn at the stake for your sins!”

“Brave words, soldier.” The scantily clad witch laughs and licks her lips, “But you and I both know that you will not live through the night, unless we allow you to. There are seven of you and many more of us. You have no hope of survival, soldier.”

“If killing us is so easy, then why are we still alive, witch?” You ask in a voice heated with impotent rage.

“Because you have proved yourselves more competent than I had expected,” The witch replies, “You have already killed a Leshy, burned down three Heart Trees, and killed one of my Wolfborn. Our coven prefers not to lose any more to your swords.”

“Then you will let us go?” Nikolai asks in a hopeful voice, the old soldier was eager to stay alive.

“First you will have to repay us for those you killed,” The witch looks at you with naked lust, “I want you to lay with me, soldier, fill my womb with your seed so that I may birth strong sons and daughters to serve the great lord.”

“Sergei already told us what happens to those who lay with you,” Sasha says in an angry voice, “We have no desire to be sacrifices for your rituals!”

“Those three were weak,” The witch says derisively, “You are stronger than them, aren’t you? I promise that I’ll let you leave the forest safely after the ritual.”

“I have a wife,” Sasha says in a hesitant voice, “I can’t agree to this.”

“Do you not wish to return to her then?” The witch says in a seductive voice, “Lay with me tonight and she will never know about it. Your children will be overjoyed when their father returns home alive.”

Sasha stays silent, clearly conflicted between his duties as a soldier and a father. The other soldiers also look uncertain, perhaps remembering their families back home.

“You are the leader, aren’t you?” The witch asks you specifically, “Are you going to continue this foolish quest for vengeance and lead your friends to death? I like your gray eyes, you might have some gift you don’t know about. Agree to my demands, soldier, and I’ll show you pleasures and powers beyond your wildest dreams!”

>Be gone, witch! We’ll never abandon our duty to avenge our lord!

"Be gone, witch! We’ll never abandon our duty to avenge our lord!" You shout at the top of your lungs. You will rather die than betray your faith like this.

"Does he speak for all of you?" The witch turns towards the other soldiers, "Are you all so eager to die in this fool's hopeless quest to avenge a dead noble?"

"What if she is telling the truth, Mikhail?" Nikolai asks in a hesitant voice, "What if we can really make it out of here alive? We should listen to what she says!"

"You sound like a clever old man," The witch winks at the old soldier, "You haven't laid with a woman in a long time, have you, old man? I promise to make this very pleasurable for you. The great lord has gifted us with both youth and beauty. I will let you impregnate as many girls as you want. If you listen to me, girls young enough to be your granddaughter will be begging you to fill their bellies with your seed by the end of the night!"

"Don't listen to her, Nikolai! This is an affront not only to the lord, but to our faith as well! We must slay this vile evil and purge its influence from the land." You shout at the old soldier, who ignores you and looks at the witch with newfound desire.

"What about you?" The witch turns towards Sasha, "Did you not say you have a wife? Would you really want her to be a widow just because Mikhail wants you to be honorable? Do you have any children, soldier?"

"A daughter." Sasha says in a whisper, "She is four years old, she always runs into my arms when I return home."

"She will be an orphan if you die here," The witch pretends to be concerned, "Do I have to tell you what happens to orphan little girls in this kingdom? Perhaps some old pervert will take her in and touch her at night. Your daughter deserves better than that, she needs to be with her father growing up."

"What should we do, Mikhail? What can we do?" Sasha looks lost after hearing the witches' manipulative words. You notice the other soldiers also looking restless, wavering between fear and hope.

You need to make sure the other soldiers are not convinced by the witches’ words and turn against you.

"Remember what happened to Dmitri and the others, that is the fate that awaits us if we trust her!" You shout at your men, hoping that they will not fall for the witch's lies, "The witch is lying, she will never let us leave the forest alive even if we lay with her! The witches must die for the safety of our families back home!"

“You’re right, Mikhail,” Sasha is convinced by your words, “We can’t trust the lies of a witch. My wife and daughter would be shamed if I laid with this woman. And it would be wrong of us to father bastard children and abandon them to be raised as servants of hell. Even if we die here, at least our families will be safe from the witches’ foul rituals.”

“You are going to get us killed, Mikhail!” Nikolai draws his sword towards you with trembling hands, the old man seems to have lost his senses in his fear and desperation to survive.

“You’ve made the right choice, old man,” The witch says in a sultry voice, “Kill the one called Mikhail and I promise that you’ll leave this forest alive. The great master grants immortality to those who serve him, he can make you young again, old man.”

“I’m sorry, Mikhail, but Nikolai is right! You’re going to get us killed!” Another one of the soldiers draws his sword against you, while Sasha and two others draw their own swords to defend you.

“Will you truly lay with us, mistress?” The youngest of the soldiers says in a lustful voice, “I’ll serve you and the great master loyally if you would have me.”

“You can fuck me all you want, soldier,” The witch laughs and touches herself seductively, “I’ll show you pleasures beyond your wildest dreams. All you need to do is kill those four men for me.”

You mutter a curse and draw your sword. You, Sasha, and two others have stayed loyal to your duty and faith, while Nikolai and two others have turned over to the witch in their fear, desperation and lust. You will need to fight them as well.

The witch is the most dangerous threat here. If you can capture her, the rest will fall in line. You do not reveal your intention as you carefully close the distance between the two of you.

"Hold them back," You whisper to Sasha as you move closer to the witch with deliberate steps. The pale woman pays little attention to you, perhaps too arrogant to feel threatened by a simple soldier.

You will have only one shot at this. You touch your crucifix and mutter a silent prayer for protection. The witch makes your job considerably easier, being careless and already assured of her victory.

You lunge at her with every bit of agility you can muster. The witch is knocked off her feet and you get on top of her before she can recover. You hold your sword at her throat as she struggles to breathe.

"Release me!" The witch shouts in anger and disbelief, "You'll die screaming for this, maggot! There are dozens of my sisters and hundreds of our children in this forest. They'll rip you apart limb by limb!"

"I don’t want to die," Nikolai pleads as he coughs blood, Sasha's sword was buried deep in his chest, "I'm afraid of the dark, Sasha, I've always been afraid. Don't let it take me, please!"

The old man was afraid of dying his whole life, and his cowardice had turned him into something very ugly near the end. Sasha sighs as he remorsefully pulls the bloody sword out of Nikolai’s corpse.

The other two traitors are also dead, their faces twisted in horror. One of the loyal soldiers is also dead, he had fought bravely against the witches’ servants, but death still found him in the end.

“What are we going to do with her, Mikhail?” The surviving loyal soldier asks you in an exhausted voice, “If what she says is true, the other witches will come for us soon.”

“We’ll burn her at the stake, that’s what Lord Vladimir would have wanted us to do,” You say in a tired voice as well, “Then we’ll make our last stand, take as many of them with us before the sun rises.”

“Mikhail, if you somehow make it out of here alive, please promise me that you'll take care of my wife and daughter,” Sasha has made peace with the fact that he will never see his wife and daughter again.

"I can never take your place in their lives, Sasha," You try to encourage the heavily bearded man, "You must survive this night even when I am dead."

"You'll all die screaming! I'll rip out your entrails slowly and feed them to you!" The witch screams as you and the others prepare the pyre to burn her, "Your wives and daughters will beg me for death, when I have them ravaged by the most hideous demons and beasts, over and over again!"

"You'll burn for your sins, witch." You struggle against the impulse to slit her throat then and there, "This is justice for what you did to the merchants, for your role in the death of Lord Vladimir, and even for what you did to Dmitri and the others!”

“The great master will send his servants to save me,” The witch says in an arrogant voice, a cruel smile forms on her face, an ugly smile revealing the darkness in her heart, “The three of you will die screaming when they arrive!”

-

After the pyre is prepared, you and Sasha tie the witch next to a stake. She curses both of you and promises horrific fates for everyone you ever loved.

“Great master, please save me!” The witch pleads in a submissive but hopeful voice all of a sudden. You turn around to see the black cat that had killed Lord Vladimir standing among the dark trees.

“Thou have failed for the last time, Beatrix,” A disembodied voice echoes in the forest, the black cat hisses in sync with the voice, “I have no need for useless servants like thee.”

“Great master, please give me another chance!” The witch pleads as the flames reach her, truly afraid for the first time since she appeared before you. Her youth leaves her as the flames consume her flesh. You see her true form as a grotesque old woman as she dies screaming.

“Thou wouldst make a much better servant, Mikhail,” The black cat changes from one form to another, you shiver when you catch a glimpse of a terrifying goat-like creature with great horns staring at you with dead eyes, “Wouldst thou like the taste of butter, Mikhail? Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?”

>I’ll never be your servant, demon, I’ll kill you and avenge my lord!

"I have seen how easily you discard your servants, I have no desire to be another pawn for you," You fight your fears and stand defiant against the black goat, "Through us, god's will shall be done, demon! You will return to the pits soon enough!"

"A pity. Thou hadst great potentials, Mikhail, but now it be the time for thee to die." The goat demon's voice disappears from the forest and the black cat begins to shape-shift yet again. Instead of a large feral cat, it turns into a sinister horned demon.

“This is it, Sasha, we either die alone or take this thing with us,” You draw your sword in one hand and your crucifix in another, “This demon has murdered Lord Vladimir, it is our duty as his loyal soldiers to avenge his death!”

You, Sasha, and the other surviving soldier prepare to face the goat demon. Even if you are all fated to die here, you will make your deaths count one way or another.

You clutch the crucifix and pray for help, while Sasha and the other soldier try to hold it off with fire. Your prayers are not answered as the goat demon evades the flames easily.

"No!" You scream in utter despair as the demon rips out Sasha's heart with its bare hands, his corpse hits the ground like a puppet with its string cut off. Sasha's wife and daughter will wait for him forever, but he will never return to their home.

The surviving soldier desperately tries to hold the demon back with fire and steel, but it manages to dodge every single blow. The demon moves with unnatural grace and rips the man’s head off, like a knife cutting through butter.

“This forest belongs to me, Mikhail.” The goat demon says in a mocking voice as it creeps towards you, “Soon this kingdom will belong to me as well. My servants have placed themselves in your capital, even in the bed of your Tsar himself. Thou shouldst have agreed to serve me, Mikhail.”

You feel a sharp pain as the goat demon penetrates your chest with its gnarled hands. You cough out blood as the demon laughs at your pain. It could have killed you in one blow, but chose to make you suffer till the end.

As your vision begins to fade, you look at the demon’s eyes defiantly. The fatal blow has been struck, and your fate has been sealed. But perhaps you can take this fiend with you.

You grab on to the demon’s hand tightly so that it cannot dodge and bury your crucifix in its hollow skull. Your mother had given you this crucifix and promised that it would protect you from the servants of evil. She had passed away many years ago, but you always felt that your mother was still with you whenever you clutched her crucifix.

You no longer have the strength to swing a sword, but you can still pray for a miracle. Tears form in your eyes as you pray more fervently than you have ever prayed in your life. The demon laughs, unperturbed by the crucifix lodged in its horned skull. It twists the hand buried in your chest, clearly enjoying the pain it was inflicting on you in your dying moments.

You cough blood, the utter agony nearly forcing you to lose your consciousness. But you force yourself to stay alive. You will not die like this, not until you can make this demon pay for its crimes. Your sword had already fallen from your hands, you run your hands on the ground half-blindly and search for it.

“I must admit that it is quite amusing to watch thee struggle, Mikhail,” The goat demon was toying with you at this point, “Beg me for thy death and I may feel merciful enough to grant it.”

You ignore the demon’s taunts and keep searching for your sword. Instead you find the torch that had fallen from Sasha’s hands, the fire still burning miraculously. The demon was too quick for Sasha, but it was close enough for you to set it on fire now.

The goat demon screams in anger as the flames spread to its flesh. The smell of its burning flesh is more dreadful than your worst imaginations. The demon tries to pull its gnarled hand out of your chest and retreat from the flames, but you hold on to its hand with your dying strength.

“Time to die, demon.” You say through dry lips, you look into the demon’s hollow eyes and see its primal fear, the fire was consuming both of you, but you did not care about the burning pain, “This world will be a much better place once you are gone.”

“My servants will bring me back!” The black goat screams in agony, “The coven still lives! I have more servants in the capital, they will bring me back into this world. Thy heroic death will mean nothing once I return!”

“Your servants will fail, demon, just like you failed here tonight,” You whisper in a tired voice, there was no more pain, only an all-consuming emptiness, “It was my duty as a soldier to avenge my lord, and I did my part even if it killed me. Other men will do their part too, and you will be sent back to hell every time you dare return to our world!”

The black goat screams wordlessly, cursing your existence in a bizarre inhuman voice. Eventually even those screams stop, the demon has finally been banished to the hell it came from. You feel at peace as an endless darkness consumes you. You see a faint light in the distance and walk towards it, leaving two charred corpses behind.

Epilogue

It has been several months since Lord Vladimir and his soldiers went missing in the forest. A search party was sent into the forest a few days after the disappearances, and they returned with the mutilated dead bodies of the nobleman and his soldiers. Lord Vladimir’s remains were identified and he has since been buried alongside his ancestors.

It is said that the forest has become a much safer place since then. Trade has returned to almost normal in that part of the kingdom and merchants no longer fear to enter the forest. The peasants whisper that the witches left for another part of the kingdom after that fateful night, but perhaps those are just rumors invented by illiterate men who had too much to drink.

In the capital, the old Tsar has recently taken a beautiful young woman as his wife and there has been much celebration throughout the kingdom. But not everything is perfect, as there have been sinister rumors of children disappearing in the night, monsters lurking in the shadows, and witches consorting with beasts and demons to birth horrific abominations.

The young prince, Ivan Tsarevich, suspects that something very foul is happening in the capital. The captain of the Tsar’s personal guards, Commander Vasily, has his own suspicions and is said to be hunting a certain powerful witch. Father Matthew, a veteran witch hunter from another land, is said to be traveling around the kingdom hunting down witches and heretics, though some claim that many of the women interrogated and burned by him were not actually witches.

Dark times were ahead of this kingdom, the age of witches was near. But great heroes would also rise to face these threats. For if there are witches, then there will also be Witch Hunters.

So was this a one-shot or are you planning to run a series based off this? Would be interested if you were but its understandable if you don't have the time needed.

I usually prefer short quests that actually finish, instead of long quests that remain forever unfinished. As of now, this was just a one shot, but I might return to this world later if there is interest. Maybe another one shot about a new witch hunter in the capital, or some other part of the kingdom.

>Run a one shot about Ivan Tsarevich – a young prince who feels suspicious about his beautiful young stepmother, especially when she flirts with him with an unsettling hunger in her eyes.

>Run a one shot about Commander Vasily – a cynical soldier investigating the strange incidents in the capital and hunting for a powerful witch.

>Run a one shot about Father Matthew – a veteran witch hunter who always finds witches and heretics, though they sometimes need to be tortured before they admit to their crimes.

>Run a one shot about a different Witch Hunter (Custom Character, Write In)

Can we get another Witch Hunter to investigate Lord Vladimir's party's death and finish the job?

Honestly this is a great setting and witch hunting always makes for a fun quest so I'd love to see this continue with a longer plot.

Really good quest OP. You should continue.

We could be a woman that got away from his murder rape train

Witch hunting is great. Especially if you're the witch hunter.

If the next one-shot is about Father Matthews, how would you want that character to be?

>A Zealot – who truly believes that he is doing god’s work by burning and torturing the young peasant girls he suspects to be witches

>A Sadist – who does not care whether his victims are witches or not, but takes great pleasure in tormenting women and children without repercussion

>A Charlatan – who knows that there is no such thing as witches, but loves taking the Tsar’s gold and forcing his lust on young women

>Custom Option (Write In)

I’m assuming the coven who served the Black Goat have already left the forest, but they may reappear in the stories of other witch hunters in another location.

If the next one-shot is about Ivan Tsarevich, how old would you want the character to be?

>Around eleven years old – A child prince who senses something evil has taken root in his father’s palace, but cannot find it in his heart to suspect his loving stepmother

>Around fifteen years old – A young prince who senses something is very wrong in the palace, and has growing suspicions about his young stepmother, who winks at him knowingly

>Around nineteen years old – An adult prince who has long-held suspicions about his young stepmother, who openly flirts with her own stepson and suggests that he should share her bed

>Around twenty-three years old – An experienced prince who has hunted witches under his father’s orders before, he suspects something even worse than witches might be in the capital
