/qst/ - Quests

Last time on Worm Quest: Young Barnaby had a moderately deep conversation with himself, before chasing a Gifted who may have ties to the Ironclad Gang. You then rolled really well for intimidation.

I have a Discord, it is for answering questions and telling you guys when I'm running: https://discord.gg/uWAmQGn

You take a slow step forwards, channelling the swagger and cockiness that you've seen on the gangsters and criminals of the city. You do your best to exude a sense of having already won, every movement carefully chosen to radiate confidence. The words don't really matter, thugs like this speak with their actions.

"Shut up you little prick, I've already caught you. Do you honestly think that I'd chase an unknown Gifted somewhere without backup?"

He takes a step backwards at that, his eyes twitching around to find a way out. Unfortunately for him, one cannot locate a traps exit where there is no trap to escape.

"Let me guess, you can't see my friends? Yeah, that's on purpose. Let me just say that well, even if you could fly there still wouldn't be a way out. You're trapped in here with me."

He's shaking and looking about frantically, desperately searching from something, maybe now would be a good point to press your advantage.

Drop the package, then fuck off.
Where were you headed eh? You sure were in a rush, maybe it was somewhere important.
Another question. [write in]

>Where were you headed eh? You sure were in a rush, maybe it was somewhere important.

Let's question to know if we even should try to grab that package first. Also use our power to see what we can do to make him tell us more stuff.

You rush forwards and push him against the wall, kneeing him once in the gut for good measure. He looks truly terrified now, he struggles against you but you're much stronger, at least in the arms. You pull your fist back and he flinches, covering his face with his hands. "Now, you're going to tell me where you were off to and why. Whatever's going on has to be pretty important right? Otherwise it'd just be a normal bloke carrying that package."

He spits in your eye and tries to push you away from him. "Fuck you, I'm not-"

Your wrist hurts but shutting him up feels good, and the swift smack to the gob seems to sort him out rather quickly. "If I don't hear what I want, you're dead meat! Get me?"

"You're fucked mate, let me tell you. I'm a runner for the Budgies, bringing stuff up to the Ironclads." He lets out a small laugh as you shift your grip on his lapels hauling him up until your eyes are level. "I was bringin' stuff up to one of Boilerplate's workshops, springs and clockwork y'know? Now he's gonna be pissed, and I'll make sure he knows it was you."

Shit, you aren't wearing a mask.

You've got him close, but you reckon that he's not fighting back because he expects you to let him go. What's your play?

You can't let him go, bring Jack out.
You're not saying jack shit, or...(or what?) How will you intimidate him into keeping his mouth shut?
Maybe, but Boilerplate's a pussy. I can take him.
[Something else?]
>>
>>2679853
Why'd we chase this guy down again? We're not associated with any of the gangs at the moment...
>>
>>2679856
We could knock him out/restrain him somehow and deliver him to OUR gang contact.
>>
>>2679853
>Thank you for the tip mate.
>You can't let him go, bring Jack out.
>>
>>2679856
People wanted a lead on the gangs with this we know some of the boilers are expecting a delivery which we can use and blame on the Budgies. If we plant this dude corpse in the workshop.

Nah he saw our face if he lives he will put mom and our bro in danger. But now we have a way to enter the boiler's workshop. We can either pose as the delivery boy or just sneak in using Jack and rob then blind although i always said it was a bad idea to kill/steal in the place we live.
>>
Why the actual fuck did you chase him without a mask? Are you being dumb on purpose?

>>2679853
Can't we use our power on him? If not then I guess we'll become a bona fide murderer.
>>
>>2679873
People though that having a 7 foot guys running around after a gifted would be less stealthy. Then we rolled badly and got caugth the plan was to just follow but woth the bad rolls he noticed us.
>>
>>2679873
Also we are already a murderer. Jack killed forty people just yesterday
>>
I'm going to give it five more minutes for votes, then I will start writing.

>>2679873
You chose to follow him as barnaby the entire point of doing so being that you'll attract less attention, if you masked up that would defeat the point.

I think if we kill him this shit will escalate quickly, besides the guy is just a delivery boy.
>>

You're not saying jack shit, or...(or what?) How will you intimidate him into keeping his mouth shut?

So, you are gonna go running back to your boss saying a fucking kid made you piss yourself? Be realistic.

Drop whatever is in your pockets and I may not brag about this in the pub.

Let´s play it smart guys. We have no reason to kill another persn and if they link Jack with us we are ead
>>
>>2679862
Supporting this with knock out. It'll be good to be in the gang's good graces.
>>
>>2679883
Yes we kinda do because if we bring jack out he will know both of our identities. We are killing this fucker deal with it.
>>

>>
>>2679889
Dead man leaves clues. People saw us entering this alley. There is no need to escalate this conflict further, and I don´t think Barnaby wants to be a murderer yet

Killing someone is dangerous. Killing someone only for knowing our face (not our cape identity) is stupid. You want to be evil? Fine.

>>
>>2679878
Jack did, not Barnaby.

And choosing to kill someone to get out of a mistake for convenience's sake is different from fucking up cannibals and slavers.

This incident is a colossal fuckup, dice or no dice and we've lost any rights to hold ourselves to a moral standard. There are no excuses or extenuating circumstances to plead when the bobbies come knocking.
>>
>>2679911
Just move the corpse to another place mate. They saw Barnaby enter the ally? Were? i didn't read anything about what you are saying. The only one here is Barn and the cape.
>>
>>2679911
There are so many bad things this is going to cause. Taking him to the opposing gang would've pulled our family very high up the gang defense totem pole to the point they wouldn't mess with our family directly.
>>
>>2679922
At the very least we need to make the knife fighting look shitty. This attack CANNOT be tracked to Jack without it being very shitty for us.
>>
>>2679921
>we've lost any rights to hold ourselves to a moral standard.

Never cared about that.
>>
>>2679925
This, if we really are going to kill himwe need to make it look like some random burglar did it.
>>
>>2679923
We can still salvage this (sorta) by using our powers to get whatever info we can and then taking his corpse to the gang. Tell them we were fixing a knockout for them to interrogate but he jumped at us and we had to off him.
>>
>>2679927
It's about options and not closing doors early. I don't know what kind of future we'll have in cape society but murdering errand boys is a very good way of making sure that we end up dead and alone. Who'd want to ally or do business with someone like us, when they find out?

>>2679932
A stray cat dragging a mouse to their doorstep. It's a good idea if the gang is okay with letting rogues murder their enemies. If they don't want to start a blood feud or a war at this point we're extra fucked
>>
>>2679932
He was actualy making a delivery for the boilersplates in the name of the boggies anon.

What we should do is go do the delivery as the guy (but transformed as Jack), attack the workshop and plant his corpse there.

But most likely they will notice the difference between wounds done before and after death.
>>
>>2679939
It's all about damage control at this point, lad. It's better to take the corpse to people that I'm sure have a way to dispose of it than to let it rot in the alley. A random mugging wouldn't make sense, since he is a cape, so they'll be looking for a cape anyways.
>>
>>2679939
We can always attack the shop he was heading to? Have Jack pass up as delivery boy and collect in his place? Maybe next time we don't follow people during the afternoon and stick with our activity during the night.
>>
>>2679944
Just cut him into pieces and drop in different places. we are in the industrial area maybe we can find something.
>>
>>2679944
Yeah well I missed the detail that they're allies/working together >>2679942

I dunno man, I missed the bit where we decided to do this. I'll let you guys figure out a way to deal with it because I can't see any scenarios where we'll come out on top
>>
>>2679942
>>2679945
I don't think we are powerful enough to do that anon. Reminder that we are really just a big guy who is really good with a knife, and they'll probably have a lot of gangsters, firearms and cape back up.
>>
>>2679947
Still, I think that's a bit above our paygrade, so to say. Depending on how much the gangs rely on supers, they'll be out for our blood, and I'd be rather have whatever protection the gang can get us, or maybe even throw this timebomb their way than to deal with the fallout by ourselves.

"Sorry, I can't let you talk."

You grow upwards and outwards, your father's loose jacket filling out as you relinquish control to Jack. the transformation takes a few seconds, and you can see the runner's eyes widen through his mask as he slides up the wall, pulled upwards as you grow into your full form.

You dump him on the floor and palm your cleaver, swinging it down in an arc towards his head but he rolls backwards and nimbly avoids the blade while rolling to his feet. A small chuckle comes from Jack's mouth as he follows through and charges the shorter man bodily, ramming him into the wall and punching him in the gut with your off hand. You go to pull away and stab him but he catches you in the gut with a knee and sends you backwards across the alley, rolling to abate your momentum.

"Wait, you don't have to do this."
[pro tip: he doesn't want to die.]

You ignore his pleas and leap forwards, bringing the cleaver down on his outstretched hand as he backs away, the knife skitters off of his metal claws but you hear something break and he shouts in pain.

The two of you are squaring off now, circling each other with malicious intent. You can see desperation in his eyes, but there's a quiet fury there too.

Headshot. Or would that be knife to the head?

The runner winds up and releases another kick, which you slip your head under and move to slash his leg. He's faster than you expected however and reverses the direction of his leg, bringing it down in a heel kick that would crush your arm if you didn't move it out of the way. He rolls backwards as you recover and tries to sprint off, but you pull the switchblade out and hurl it into his thigh which stops him in his tracks.

You move forwards to capitalise but he stomps hard on the floor with his good leg, cracking the concrete for a good three metres around him. The shockwave staggers you just long enough for him to pull himself up to his feet.

"You're a tough little shit, I'll give you that. But there's no way out."

"F-Fuck you."

You twirl the knife in your hands as you advance on the wounded gangster, rushing him before he can pull any more of his bullshit leg stuff. He moves to dodge but his leg gives way at the last moment and he falls to one knee, unable to move out of the way. He brings his claws up to stop you but isn't nearly strong enough, you bring your hand down in a vicious hammer blow to the forearm that bends his arm sickeningly. Two more follow and he tries to lash out before you can break his guard, leaving him open to a hook with your off hand that drives all the breath from his body.

You're about to finish him off, but you notice a red energy gathering around his bottom half and manage to dodge to the side before he can finish his plan.

He unfolds his leg, shattering the pavement beneath him and destroying the knife embedded within as he flies forwards. You reach out to grab him as he flies past but just miss, having been planning to use his momentum and hurl him into a wall.

As it is, he catches himself and rolls to the side when he lands, pulling himself shakily to his feet and spitting out a tooth.

You stand about a metre from him, cleaver shining in the midday sun.

You were about to dive forwards and finish this, take him down in one decisive strike, or at least that was the plan.
Unfortunately, that's not quite what happened.

He leaps first, coiling himself like a spring before wrenching a pipe off of the wall and launching himself at you weapon raised, you try to dodge but his improvised weapon impacts heavily with your raised forearm. He lands and rolls, turning to look at you with a cheeky grin on his face that swiftly dies when he sees your lack of reaction.
