You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

You watch in the distance as the approaching Templar army crests the horizon, banners fluttering in the air. Columns of obsidian armored knights march in unison, tended by countless initiates and acolytes.

In addition, long pikes with orcish skulls pinned through them were raised alongside the Templar banners, a grim reminder of your order's purpose, and where they had just come from.

"Wait, is that-" Morgan narrows her eyes as she tries to get a glimpse of the Templar leading the army. "Do you know who that is?"

You squint your eyes as well. You could immediately pick out Ozen, who was striding casually beside another Marshal. It looked like...

>A knight wearing a magnificent golden Lion helm. An odd but instantly recognizable choice, paired with a great lance.
>A literal iron giant of a man wielding a massive greatsword and tower shield.
>An intense man bearing an iron crown and glowing lantern.

You pause when you recognize the man leading the column. It was High Marshal Helbrecht himself, the leader of the Templars. He had marched down here himself...?

You had never personally seen Helbrecht, but you had certainly heard of him, and there were many murals and statues depicting his likeness. As typical of a Templar, he wore the signature black armor, though considering his rank, he was wearing one of the relic armors, a set of armor worn by the handful of original Templars who had burned down the Elven forests, the resulting ash sticking to the metal and imbuing magical properties. A crimson cape fluttered behind him as he held the silver Sword of the High Marshals in one hand and the Eternal Lantern in the other. The Sword was a typical high quality sword, passed form High Marshal to High Marshal, but the Eternal Lantern i said to still hold the original flame that birthed the Templar Order. A prized and sacred relic.

"I take it he's important." Morgan concludes upon observing your reaction.

You just simply nod.

As you two talked, the column drew ever closer to the Monastery.

You immediately head down to the the front gates of the Monastery, with Morgan hesitantly following you. You can see that Havel has already taken up position at the gatehouse, standing rigidly at attention as he waits for the the High Marshal to arrive.

"Where have you been?" Havel hisses as he sees you approach. "The High Marshal is nearly here! Stand at the ready!"

"W-what about me?" Morgan asks nervously.

"Stand here or hide, I have no time to advise you of either." Havel grunts as he returns to attention. You can already hear the stomping of armored boots, the ground trembling in unison.

How would the High Marshal treat her presence? You knew nothing personally of the man, other than he was the ultimate paragon of all Templar values and beliefs. Would he be a purist? Or would he tolerate her presence like Ozen or readily accept her like Havel?

"I'm staying." Morgan says resolutely. "We're going to have to break it to him sooner or later, if Ozen hadn't told him already."

Well, she did have a point. You couldn't really argue against that.

The gates creak open and Helbrecht and Ozen come marching in, each one followed by their respective retinues.

"Havel." Helbrecht says simply, his voice deep and powerful. "It's been a while."

"That it has, High Marshal." Havel says respectfully. "I see the campaign has gone well?"

"The Northern orcs will not be making any further incursions for some time. Unfortunately, we had to give up chasing them to march down here." Helbrecht's hard gaze falls on you and Morgan. "And these were the two you have told me about, Ozen?"

"Yes, they're quite the interesting pair." Ozen chuckles. "What do you make of them?"

"Hm." Helbrecht grunts as his eye continues to gaze. "Dangerous. This one especially."

You see Helbrecht's judging glare focusing on Morgan as he says those words. Morgan meanwhile is doing her best not to look intimidated by the High Marshal's stare.

Morgan stands her ground, defiantly pulling back her hood to reveal her wolfen features.

"You're damn right I'm dangerous." She growls. "Do want to see how much?"

There's a brief pause. Havel stares at Morgan, his body posture indicting he was completely mortified at her apparent disrespect towards the Marshal, while Ozen looked like she was trying not to burst out into amused laughter.

And you? Well, you trusted Morgan to make the right call here.

Helbrecht just continues his glare at Morgan, and he does the last thing any of you expect.

He starts laughing. It sounds like rough gravel grinding against stone, but it was still unmistakably laughter.

"She's a fiery one, just like you said, Ozen." Helbrecht nods. "A useful ally to our cause, if what the rest you say is true."

"She's well able to earn her keep in blood." Ozen says as she winks at you.

"You have certainly made great gains with such an... interesting retinue." Helbrecht grunts as he turns his attention to you. "You've even made inroads with the local Mages and Paladins here, correct?"

You nod to answer his question.

"Interesting." Helbrecht nods. "Then I suppose you would be the natural candidate to mediate a conclave with their representatives."

Wait... what?

You just point to yourself in disbelief. Given a direct order by the High Marshal for such an important undertaking... it was like a dream come true!

"I look forward to you making the arrangements." Helbrecht says gruffly before turning back to Havel. "Have accommodations been prepared?"

Seems like he didn't waste any time.

"They have, High Marshal, but this Monastery was never meant to house an entire army." Havel explains. "We have plenty of space for you and your retinue, but otherwise the rest of the troops will have to encamp outside."

"Then I shall stay outside with them." Helbrecht grunts. "There is plenty of open space, and the area is defensible, yes?"

"Naturally." Havel nods. "Though we are exposed to observers from the city as well as elven scouts lurking in the fields."

"Let them see, then." Helbrecht nods and then turns to his retinue. "Tell the men to make camp."

Helbrecht's men nod and march out.

"Havel, come with me. We must oversee the Monastery's stores. A large army has a large stomach, after all."

"Of course, High Marshal." Havel nods as he follows Helbrecht.

"Awwww, he's like a little puppy with the High Marshal around!" Ozen giggles. "It's so adorable!"

You nod to Morgan as you head out of the gate to the mass of fellow Templars outside, Like a well oiled machine, black armored soldiers go about setting up tents and camping equipment. One section is obviously the living area, where all of the tents meant for sleeping were being erected. To the side, you could see armorers setting up a workshop to maintain the army's weapons and armor. A shrine to Sol was also being erected, carried here by Battle Sisters to ward off evil spirits and magic. Farther out, grass was being cut and the ground leveled to create a sparring ring. Even when camped, Templars needed to keep their skills sharp.

And all of this was done with the minimum amount of orders or talking. Every Templar knew their station and role.

"They're certainly very... organized." Morgan blinks as Templars march to and fro.

In the distance, you also notice a number of adventurers and cityfolk gathering a respectful distance from the camp. You're not sure if they were in awe or concerned about this development. They were just too far away. You could also see a pair of Templars break off from the main camp to go head them off.

>You have 1 point remaining!

As you head out to the little knot of onlookers, you head off the pair of camp sentries and motion for them to hang back. You can handle things from here. They just look at each other and then you before complying. There weren't about to question a higher ranking Templar.

"Interesting, so it looks like the main attraction has arrived." Lucina smiles as she emerges from the crowd.

"Lucina?!" Morgan blinks. "What are you doing here?"

"If an army marching on and camping in front of my city isn't going to catch my attention, I don't know what would." Lucina rolls her eyes. "And SOMEONE needs to keep everyone from panicking."

You give a thankful nod to Lucina. She'd be a very effective queen in the future.

"Anyways, I was also coming down here to tell Havel about something. You think you can get me to him?"

"Is it that important?" Morgan raises an eyebrow.

"Sadly, yes." Lucina sighs. "But it's sensitive. I have to speak to him in person."

You just nod and motion for her to follow you. It just so happens that you know where Havel is right now, and better yet, he was with Helbrecht.

You and Morgan head back to the Monastery with Lucina in tow this time. Lucina looks at the camp quickly being erected around the area with fascination. It's just then that you realize that this may be the first time Lucina has ever seen an actual, professional army.

"I never thought I'd see so many Templars in one place..." She mutters. "Are they all like you?"

You simply shrug.

You finally reach the Monastery, and as you move through the gates and enter the courtyard. As you do, Engel swoops down, shrieking.

"AH!" Lucina yelps, nearly leaping into your arms.

"Engel!" Morgan scowls as she stomps forward. "Bad! You don't scare guests like that!"

Engel hesitates and then backs off, roosting under a nearby tree as if sulking.

"You... you have a giant eagle now...?" Lucina gasps.

"Long story. Let's keep going." Morgan says brusquely.

Finally, you lead Lucina into the main hall, where Havel, Helbrecht and Ozen were gathered around a map of the Frontier. All three turn their heads to look at you.

"Ah! This is Princess Lucina, part of the ruling family of the region." Havel quickly explains.

"Princess." Helbrecht nods simply. "I'm glad you could join us."

"Dohoho, she probably brings news, and not the good kind." Ozen giggles.

"About that..." Lucina frowns. "It seems like the Paladins are sending their own force down here. The Cathedral just received the notification."

"What?" Morgan's eyes widen. "Solaire wouldn't do something like that, would he?"

"Hm, well, we could always just wipe out the Paladins if they're foolish enough to pick a fight with us." Ozen giggles.

"Misguided as they may be, the Paladins are still brothers in arms and sons of Sol." Helbrecht grunts. "Engaging them in battle should be the last resort."

It would be better do the oposite since we were the ones being blocked of going into the church. Having said thay Solaire most likely got a quest from the guild we just need to check what it was and then we can go after him. But first we need to inform and request Elias presence in the war room. Although i think the mages have said they would be neutral on this matter and stuck in just protecting the city.

"You're going the Guild, aren't you?" Morgan wonders. "I think I can go check out the Cathedral. Talk to Valentia and Solana. Niko's over there too, right?"

That was true. But then again, given what had happened last time you ventured into the city, perhaps traveling alone wasn't a good idea.

You shake your head adamantly. You weren't about to let Morgan run off by herself, especially with those two hostile Mage Knights still at large.

"All right, fine." Morgan sighs. "So let's get this done, then."

"I'll continue discussing things with Havel and the High Marshal here." Lucina assures you. "Don't worry about me."

You give her the thumbs up as you and Morgan exit.

As you exit the Monastery, the camp outside was starting to come together now to the point where Templars were starting to establish fortifications on the perimeter. Right now, it was a ring of earthworks and wooden palisades, meant more to discourage unauthorized entry rather than being any sort of impenetrable defense.

There was now an even larger crowd of onlookers as you and Morgan on the road to Eisenwand, heading straight for the Guild hall.

And then you remember that set of dragonscale armor you had commissioned for Morgan.

You could afford to make a small detour, so you head down the main street back to the blacksmith shop where you had commissioned Morgan's new set of armor. You actually sort of wonder how the final product turned out.

"Hey, where are we going?" Morgan asks curiously. "This isn't the way to the Guild."

You just motion for her to follow you in and the Dwarf running the shop immediately waddles over.

"Ah! You're back, Templar! And just in time! It's finished!"

"Wait, what's finished-" Morgan pauses and her eyes widen when she sees it.

A dragonscale vest, sized perfectly to Morgan's dimensons as well as gloves, knee pads, and elbow pads. The scales were also dulled down to green and brown earthen colors to match her current outfit, tuned to shroud her in the forests where she liked to lurk.

"I just made it to add on to her existing outfit!" The blacksmith says proudly. "This vest fits over her shirt to provide maximum protection to her vitals without impeding any of her movement! The other little bits also provide protection without compromising mobility!"

"Wow..." Morgan's eyes widen as she takes a step forward, letting her fingers run across the dragon scale. "You really did this all... for me?"

You nod.

"Thanks." Morgan smiles and hugs you. "It's one of the best gifts I've ever gotten!"

"I can pack all this up for ya to carry out, if ya want!" The blacksmith offers.

>Sure, just carry it out.

You take the vest and hand it to Morgan, giving her an encouraging look.

"Well, I suppose I can try it on." Morgan cracks a smile. "Gotta make sure it's a the right size, huh?"

You nod and give her a thumbs up.

And so Morgan puts on the vest, wrapping it around her chest. She then twists her body and stretches her arms to test it out.

"Wow... it's perfectly sized." Morgan says with surprise. "It doesn't even feel like I'm wearing anything extra at all. How did you know-"

Morgan then pauses and her head slowly turns towards you.

"How DID he know my exact sizes, I wonder?" She finishes, directing the question at you.

You just simply nod, not backing off at all.

"..."

Morgan's face then goes red, her bluff called and she spins around and crosses her arms.

"Idiot." She mumbles.

The blacksmith simply laughs.

"Haha, you two make quite the couple, don't you?!"

He's immediately sent scrambling behind the counter when Morgan responds with a very wolf-like growl.

"Gods, the rumors were true!" He continues laughing.

"Ugh, let's just go." Morgan groans, still not directly facing you to hide her blush as she pulls her hood back up.

You just nod and give the blacksmith a thankful wave as you leave.

"Nice doing business with ya!" He says. "If you get any more rare materials, bring 'em here! I'll keep makin' stuff for you on the house!"

You continue to follow the pouting Morgan as she stomps her way over to the Guild hall. She makes a beeline for he pub while you go greet the clerk.

"Huh, did something happen to Morgan?" The clerk asks curiously. "She seems a bit flustered or something."

You just shrug and point to the job board.

"Oh, looking for an interesting quest?" The clerk pauses. "Hm, you only want to go for the big ones, right?"

You nod again.

"Well, here's what I've got..."

ROGUE NECROMANCER: There are rumors of the dead walking in a secluded section of the forest. Perhaps a necromancer is afoot, raising the dead for some unknown but sinister purpose.

ORC WARBAND: After their northern incursion was shattered by the Templars, the Orcish hordes had splintered into dozens of tiny warbands. At least one has manged to flee into the Frontier, where it remains at large.

GIANT WORM: A rather large worm has been churning up and destroying farmers' fields, and must be dealt with if Eisenwand's food supply is to kept stable.

Hmmm, which one of these challenges would a danger seeker like Solaire most likely go for...?

I can see Morgan's set being easy to pass down to pretty much anyone. Templar's armor, on the other hand, probably needs some dragonflame (from a dragon or 9ne of our demi human kids) to make alterations.

Although zombies are dnagerous having two armies (the templars and the paladins) hogging the food won't be a good thing.
>>
>>2675972
>GIANT WORM
I'm really torn between this and the necromancer (you know, paladin stereotypes), but this one seems to be more of a challenge. Plus dealing with this also helps us in the big picture. Securing food supplies to the city is important in case of conflict.

Think like this. what would save more people? Killing a unknow undead or killing a giant worm that eats all the food and might make people go hungry?

Also Solaire most of the pther times went after beast, The Basilisk and the Hogger so the worm seems a safe bet

You grab the flyer for the giant worm and place it on the counter, giving the clerk a chance to inspect it.

"Hmmmm, yep! That's a popular one there!" The clerk nods happily. "The farm where it was last sighted isn't too far. Probably less than a day's travel!"

Good, that meant you didn't have to travel far.

"Good luck out there, Templar!" The clerk grins.

You give her a thankful nod and turn back to look for Morgan...

Grunting, you stride over to the pub and pat Morgan on the shoulder. There were better places to do this than in the middle of the Guild hall. Was she really put off balance that much by what had happened earlier?

"Fine, fiiiiiiiine." Morgan groans, finishing her current glass. Hopefully she hadn't drunk too much just yet. "All right, so what's next on the agenda?"

You just pick up Morgan and drag her by the collar to the Tower. There were still some questions that you wanted to ask Elias about. Particularly about those two Mage Knights that had given you trouble a little while ago. You refused to believe a high ranking Archmagus like him would be completely ignorant of what was going on.

"Oh, so we're going to confront Elias, huh?" Morgan mumbles.

You nod as you stride past the Twins guarding the gate to the Tower.

"H-hey!" Caroline stammers. "You can't just barge through without-"

But you're already past her and you stride into the portal, the magical construct somehow knowing where you wanted to go and you end up in Elias' chambers.

"Curious to see you barging in here." Elias' eyes glow as he turns his head over so slightly. "What can this possibly be about?"

You cross your arms. He should know.

"Those two Mage Knights that jumped us. There has to be something you know about them." Morgan says for you.

"Both the Mages and the Mage Knights are vast organizations. Even I can't possibly know everybody in them." Elias explains simply, his eyes flickering.

Also mention that Helbrecht himself is here, and that he probably won't be as lenient about whatever bullshit is happening if it means the possibility of fighting the mages AND the elves then best to remove one enemy first, quickly and very very thoroughly.

You merely shake your head and look to Morgan.

"All, right, I'll handle this." Morgan sighs as she walks forward, staring hard at Elias.

"Elias, we've been running into all sorts of problems stemming from the Mages. First, there was that rogue mage in the sewers, and now we have two Mage Knights lurking around the city."

Elias remains silent, though his eyes continue to flicker.

"So either you're running something shady here, or somebody else is and it's making you look bad." Morgan concludes.

You nod in agreement. You also point out the window towards the quickly erecting Templar war camp.

"Yeah, and there's an entire Templar army out there being led by High Marshal Helbrecht himself, so this is probably the best time to start talking." Morgan adds.

Elias looks to you, and then Morgan, and then out towards the Monastery before sighing.

"Perhaps I wasn't entirely truthful...."
