<You are Erick Vanders, assistant manager at WalMart Supercenter in Washington DC. Or so you were, until an untimely death saw the end of your normal life. Now, you find yourself trapped, along with several others, in an unforgiving death game orchestrated by an enigmatic black sphere known only as Gantz. Its rules are simple: hunt and kill monsters, aliens, from other worlds before the time limit, or be killed by them. With the promise of a way out, and Gantz's technologically advanced arsenal as your driving force, can you live through the agony of life after death? Or will your mind and body break like the hundreds of others that lived before you?>

'Gantz Lives. We Die. But You Are Not Alone,' the words ring in your head over the sounds of the party, 'NY & DC...so...we were right about the other teams?'

Ever since you had found those files with Allie about her initial investigation into the disappearances in New York, you had always had the assumption that there more people in Gantz than you. Now, with your assumptions almost certainly correct, you find yourself at legitimate loss on where to go on from here out of sheer surprise. The raucous party atmosphere isn't helping your thought process either, until you decide to flip the letter.

<2420 14th Street NW. Come Tuesday. If You Still Live.>

It is an oddly cryptic way of writing a meeting time, yet it doesn't bother you as much as the location itself.

'Gantz's apartment...' you ponder, looking over the letter again, '...they have to know about the team then. They know about the pattern on the weekends as well, then-'

"Sir, are you alright?", an older gentleman's voice interrupts your train of thought, almost making you drop the letter, "It looks like you're sweating a little much there for a Rum & Coke. Would you like for me to get you a glass of water?"

"N-No, I'm fine," you stammer a little, hastily putting the letter away, "Thank you though, barkeep. Hey, would you happen to know that woman that got the whiskey next to me?"

"To start sir, I am Ronald," he starts, but his serious face turns softer, "and I am not allowed to divulge other clients' names but, in the spirit of Friday night hook-ups, as some of our clients say, I guess I can say a little on her."

"Her name is Emily Tolvert," Ronald continues, taking the empty whiskey glass from where she was, "she's a regular of our weekend wrap-ups on Monday Tuesday, who likes to make me wait on her tabs. Strange thing about her though, she always takes a weekend trip to New York City, probably a business or stock worker if you ask me. But, why do you want to know so bad? Thinking of getting lucky with her sir?"

"No, I got a woman already" you reply, earning an impressed look from Ronald, "just found it strange that someone would come here just for drinks when there's so many bars in DC. Peaked my curiosity, I guess."

"I wondered that for the longest time as well," Ronald replies, rinsing and drying the glass in a nearby sink, "She never goes on the dance floor, talk to many people, or even get more than a few drinks before leaving. She says she likes the atmosphere or something, but it sounds like a cover up for something."

"A cover up?" you inquire, causing Ronald to stop, "what do you mean-"

"Actually, forget I said anything," Ronald quickly replies, hastily putting the glass away, "I wouldn't want to raise anymore of a fuss on baseless rumors."

The woman probably is a DC resident that was at New York and died there, since Guntz doesn't care much about personal life she was transported back there for every mission.

"Hold on now", you respond, earning Ronald's attention, "if it's a rumor then there can't be any harm in saying it. I mean, they can't exactly throw you out of the place for gossip."

Ronald doesn't answer immediately, but instead puts the glass away and then takes a deep breath before moving back to your side of the bar.

"I..." Ronald sighs, with his eyes darting around the club for a second before returning to you, "...normally we're not supposed to fraternize with non-regulars, not my rule but the higher ups. Also, don't mind me saying but I am not sure if I can honestly trust you with that information Mr...?"

"Vanders," you reply, taking a sip from your glass, "but just call me Erick, we're not boss or employee here. And I understand, but this little conversation has me honestly curious..."

<CRITICAL SUCCESS>
+1 Trust (Ronald Cress)

"With all due respect," Ronald almost stammers, a few beads of sweat building on his brow, "I also have to think of the client's safety, and-"

"Come on Ronald," you interrupt, giving him your most disarming smile and arm spread, "don't break my balls here man. Do you really think a dangerous guy would be dressed like this anyways?"

You almost stand up to show him your full outfit, but only lean back far enough so he can see the edge of your collared shirt. Ronald gives you a quick scan and then makes a slightly ponderous face. Upon a heavy sigh, he waves you back to your seat and you return to your normal seating position.

"You're too stuck in 2012 to look dangerous at least," Ronald says, giving you a wary look, "and you talk too openly to be one of those 'nice guys until third shot of a roofie' types. Well...just why are you so interested in her anyways?"

"...look," you admit, or come up with a legitimate excuse, "When I was in university, I went to a lot of parties, did lots of stupid shit, and met lots of wonderful ladies. Let's just say that two of those things have a habit of coinciding with the other...and that lady looks mighty familiar from the side...get where I'm going with this?"

"Alright..." Ronald breathes in before responding, though you can tell there's no hesitation from him, "...fine, but please don't stir up trouble for wanting to settle things with her. And don't take this the wrong way, but you're still a few weeks of visits before I consider you a regular, alright Erick?"

"Thanks Ronald," you reply, taking the last sip of your rum and cola, "and fill her up please, I think this is going to be long story."

<April 27th, Friday 10:45 PM>

After Ronald tops you off, he explains the rumor in detail. According to Ronald and the other regulars, Emily Tolvert used to come here with another person, an 20-some year old that dissapeared several months ago. Some say that Ms. Tolvert is expecting him to return to the bar some day, while others say that she is stuck in a loop of grief after what could have happened to him. Regardless, you take in the information well and thank Ronald for it.

"That's as much time as I got though," Ronald exhales, then turning to the other side of the bar, "got other patrons besides you Erick. Talk to you later."

The appearence of more people like us is a big fucking deal. I want to pickup our phone and start looking for cases of extreme vandalism in new york like the ones we had here
>>

We don't need to make everything a big case also Allie most lilely has those files she was the one to tell us about the dissapearances in NY. I would rather plan for the inevitable extraction we are going to need to do with Allie because going to the police station on sunday will make us be likely teleported and be investigated by the police...again.

Also Tanjee would be the one to apreciate the mistery and would be the less likely to get upset of being dragged away from the girls.

"Same, catch you later," you reply, finishing the last bit of your drink. There is a slight buzzing tang in your mouth as you do so, along with a slight haze in your eyelids. Now, back in university, you could probably drink most frat leaders under the table, but you had been sober for so long now, that you were beginning to wonder if your tolerance may have decreased.

You didn't linger too long in this thought, as you moved yourself well enough to the dance floor and to the most familiar figures you could make out from the throng of people moving about there. Tanjeet and Maria were nowhere in sight, though it wasn't because they were obscured by the crowd. Kurtis and the girls however were dancing up a storm near the center of the main dance floor.

Whatever kind of footwork they taught Kurtis in the army, he was certainly matching the twins' own. Their bodies moving to the rhythm of the thrumming music and the crowd almost following their lead in how matched they were. Though, you could tell that Silvia and Claire were almost touching Kurtis as they moved, as their arms were almost brushing down his sides and their hips just missing Kurtis's own. Anymore of this and they would practically grinding on him.

For your normally devil-may-care attitude in parties, you were also beginning to realize that Claire and Silvia took things a little too seriously here as well. And while Kurtis seemed to be enjoying himself, you could also tell that maybe he was avoiding the girls in his rhythm more intentionally than you previously believed. Whether or not this was against some unspoken code in parties, you hurried to the center of the dance floor. It wasn't a thought of saving Kurtis, since he was an adult and could easily make his own choices, but a matter of trying to diffuse an awkward situation before it began. You hadn't danced in several years, and you knew your game probably wouldn't able to match theirs, but you had to try if you were going to distract them from doing something might regret.

You move deftly through the crowd, trying your best to avoid the hot touch and sweat from the many dancing bodies around you. Thankfully, the center of the dance floor opened up a bit more, as you soon found yourself near several groups of people thrashing, swerving, and moving in rhythmic patterns to the music blaring from several massive speakers on the ceiling. The colored lights and lasers shooting from the sides only added to the sky-scraper high atmosphere of the club. It was something you had long forgotten about, but nevertheless felt a twinge of nostalgia over.

This didn't stop you from heading towards your almost-grinding trio near the center. Kurtis was still going but you could tell that the girls were starting to bother him with how much jerking his arms began doing to try to keep them at a decent length away. It wouldn't last too much longer as you interposed yourself between the three.

Or you would have, had the rhythm of their bodies and sheer volume of the music not prevented you from stopping them. There was no real opening to them here, and even if you did try to butt in by force, you might throw them off so hard it might set the wrong impression. This was until Silvia noticed you nearby and started hovering towards you, her hips swerving to you in an almost hypnotic fashion. It was like she was dancing but somehow naturally walking towards you.

"ERICK!" she shouted, you barely hearing her through the music, "GLAD YOU COULD JOIN US! HERE, TAKE ME ON BOY! TAKE A LOAD OFF!"

"YEAH ABOUT THAT!" you replied back as loudly, and finding your foot start tapping, "LET'S CALM DOWN A LITTLE ALRIGHT? I NEED TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT THAT LION THING, IT'S BEEN BOTHERING ME THIS WHOLE NIGHT!"

"OH THAT?!" she responds, her feet not losing a rhythmic step, "DON'T BE A KILL JOY ERICK, LET'S TALK AND DANCE ON IT! COME ON!"

You almost exclaimed as you felt a fierce tug on your arm as Silvia pulled you out of the edge of center and to the dead center with Kurtis and Claire. You noticed they were keeping a bit more of their distance now while keeping their rhythm, until they noticed you. Their rhythm stopping almost caused a domino effect on some of the nearby people, as soon you felt more eyes turn to you. At the dead center of the dance floor stood one person without a step to their rhythm. That was you as soon you felt every single eye looking at you, expecting you to either make or break on that floor.

'Fuck.'

With the amount of time you'd been away from the party scene, it seemed that your alcohol tolerance wasn't the only thing that began to fade. As you tried to find the rhythm in your step, you found yourself more lost on where keep your arms and move your torso. The song helped to some degree, as the moving throngs of people also served as an example for you to move on, but it always seemed like you were one step too far or too close for Silvia to get a good mutual rhythm with you.

Whatever kind of dancing god you may have been, it certainly wasn't who you were right now as you were trying and failing to copy the crowd's style. The eyes you felt you began to veer away, as they either ignored you or were too hyped up on their own dancing to care. You didn't embarrass yourself, at least not too much, but you certainly aren't flowing with the other three. Silvia tries her best to follow your almost uneven rhythm, but even she can't make your haphazard style something good. She eventually breaks from it an takes you by the wrist and pulls you in close.

"Erick, it's time stop alright," she states as close to you as she can without making a scene, "Let's head over to the lounge with the others for now. I think I'm a little danced out as well myself."

You only nod in reply as the two of you make your way to the other side of the club. It didn't take a genius to figure out that she was probably doing this more out of pity than actual tiredness, but you didn't care too much. If it pulled the two away from Kurtis, then at least the plan had some success. If anything, you at least felt like your legs got stronger from all of that dancing.

<April 27th, Friday 11:25 PM>

The two of you found Tanjeet and Maria pretty easily, as their booth had been set aside near the end of the club, and was probably the only one that was small enough to seat four. Silvia's almost blank expression there gave Maria pause, but you soon explained on what happened in the dance floor. After a small laugh at your expense, Silvia sat down near Maria and started explaining.

"So, from what I heard, it started on Tuesday," Silvia starts, with the others and yourself huddling around her, "the big male lion over at National Zoo got really sick with something. They had it under intensive care for about two days, until that storm hit on Thursday night."

"They lost power and had to move the lion out," she continues, with Tanjeet looking with a raised brow, "since GW's Hospital has a big vet facility as well, they had to keep it there for the weekend. Though, from what I hear, the move may have worsened its condition."

"Jesus, that's sad," you can't help but blurt out, "I remember going to that zoo when I was a kid, and probably looking at that lion. Here's to you lion, too a good recovery."

You raise a shot glass and the others do the same, downing their portions.

It may have been the spur of the moment, but it just dawned on you that you just downed a full shot of something very hot down your throat. It was a bitter tang, almost like whiskey but with much more kick behind it. You turned your head to look at the bottle from where those were poured from and you quickly began to regret your decision to toast for that sick lion.

"Hey hold on," you say, starting to panic a little as you stared at the bottle on the table, "I thought you got whiskey at the bar, Maria. Like...didn't you say you drank high end stuff, not...Jersey, whatever this is?"

The last bit may have begun flowing from your tongue a little looser than normal, but you almost realized that the lettering on that bottle was becoming a little blurred. You squinted to get a better look, but it only seemed to make it worse. Not that your panic really stopped Maria's laughing, as she didn't really seem to be paying much attention to your growing plight.

"Hey, don't knock a good bottle of Vodka, Erick," she says, holding up another shot, "Even if it's made in Jersey, this shit is better than any European and Russian shit I've tried. Also, goes down much smoother than those other ones, while still giving you that kicking buzz."

You were beginning to wonder just how much this woman had actually put on your tab. You figured she'd be responsible but, considering that this place probably had a carry out policy with its liquor, you were also beginning to wonder how much she was will to take on. At the moment however, it was only second to that growing haze in your head as you reclined a bit on the seat cushion.

"HEY EVERYONE!" Claire's voice cuts out from the club, as she arrives with an arm around Kurtis, "You would not believe how much of a baddass Kurtis is on that floor. The LITEST shit this side of DC, I swear to you."

"Hey now, it was just a bit of dancing," Kurtis replied sheepishly, then trying to find a seat in the cramped booth, "got a bit of the blood pumping though, and you also did pretty well Claire. So, what are we doing now?"

"Well, we could stay and do a bit of shots," Maria says, but then gets up along with Tanjeet, "but, I actually have to take a little bit of an early leave. Tanjeet finishing up his finals this weekend, and I wouldn't want him to fail on our account."

"Aww...Maria," Silvia responds, with Claire finishing her thought, "You never leave before 12 though...what are we supposed to do without you around?"

"You still have Kurtis and Erick," Tanjeet replies, earning a concerned glance from you and Kurtis, "they'll probably do shots with you if you want. Also, Erick, don't go too crazy here if you stay, alright?"

You almost balk at his remark, but they move too fast for you to properly respond.

"Actually, I think we should all go guys," you announce, earning a look of shock from the twins, "we can't afford to be so far gone for the weekend. Remember, that we still have a hunt coming up and probably getting Allie out of the police station."

"That and we probably are going to have to train more," you continue, "we got cut off last time and we didn't even start on the shooting. So, I think we need to act a little responsible, just this once, alright?"

The twins look down at the ground and almost pout at you with equally furrowed brows, but Kurtis almost knocks them aside when he gets up to your side. The two girls catch each other and stand up alongside him, probably trying to save face, but then just walk past you and Kurtis towards Maria and Tanjeet.

"Man...you're such a buzzkill, Erick," they say in unison as they head out to meet with Tanjeet and Maria. It amazed you that those two were so into their party scene it almost made them forget about the crazy alien death game. Kurtis comes up to you and places a hand on your shoulder.

"Don't worry about them Erick," he states, looking at them go, "but honestly are you cool to drive tonight? I saw you swaying a little bit when Maria started heading out. Want me to give you a ride home?"

"Eh, it's cool," you reply, shaking your head a little bit, "I'm not far gone, just a little tipsy is all. What about you? How can you keep going without taking anything to drink man?"

"Military secret," Kurtis replies, and then quickly grabs the vodka bottle on the table, "but good cardio and interpretative dancing from my kid days sure helps. I'm taking this by the way, and hopefully those two never look back at it again."

"Oh god..." you quickly realize something you forgot about the evening, "I sure hope those two don't hunt me down for those two drinks I still owe them..."

<April 28th, Saturday 12:00 AM>

You arrived back home with an exhausted drawl as you tried with all of your might to stay awake enough to crawl back to the bedroom. There was a slight ringing in your ears from the amount of car horns you had gotten blared on your way back. Maybe it was because you were going ten miles slower than the speed limit or because your turns were almost onto the side walks at times, but you managed to arrive back more or less safe and sound. As you approached the bedroom, a light near the pillows shined in a square.

Paula's face scanned the screen on her smartphone, looking through what you assumed were articles, though you couldn't make heads or tails of what they were about in your state.

"Hey Erick...," she said, and quickly noticed you slightly disheveled look, "...anything interesting happen over there?"

"Remember when they brought Allie in for the first time, and those disappearances in New York surfaced?", you ask, but don't wait for Paula to answer you pull out the letter Emily handed you, "I got this at the party from some lady at the bar. There's a back part as well, which pretty much assured me that this was the real deal."

Paula doesn't answer immediately as she takes the letter and quickly gives it a good look over. Her eyes furiously scan all of the details on the page, though you can't help but imagine what she's looking for in such a short message. She does the same for the other side, taking a deep sigh after she finishes reading it. She places it on the night stand, and just sits on the bed for a few seconds before responding.

"Yeah, we assumed there had to be another one" Paula replies, a little awestruck on the bed, "I mean, the possibility was always there but we never really got any confirmation if it really was true besides Allie's findings. As for what this person wanted..."

Paula rubs her temples in what you only assume is exhaustion, and possibly irritation. You know this look, it's when she starts thinking ahead, to a conclusion and means of getting there. You move to her side and try to lean in to get her to ease up a little bit. Considering the amount of not thinking you've done tonight, it appears almost paradoxical to do so.

"We can think on it tomorrow, alright?" you say, placing an arm around her, "As far as I know, whoever this lady is, she's associated with New York and is probably trying to lay low like we are. At the cost of sounding naive, I don't think she would have gone through the trouble of making that letter if she wasn't 100% sure that a Gantz member would have received it."

"That just scares me more honestly," Paula says, raising her head to meet yours, "How does she know this much about our team already? There's so many unknowns here is all Erick, and it just worries me is all."

You don't waste anymore time in wrapping your arms around Paula to try and console her on her worries. She doesn't return it, but the relaxed shift on her shoulders and neck give you all the indication that you helped. You can't deny that she's right however, as the whole encounter was so sudden and subtle that you almost didn't know it happening. Whatever that lady or the New York team could be planning, it was something you were going to figure out.

For tonight however, you freely felt your eyes grow very heavy as Paula's shoulder great a little more comfortable. You didn't hear her ask if you were fine, before you lost consciousness right then and there.

<April 28th, Saturday 9:30 AM>

You woke up the next day to another one of Paula's notes, though alongside a heavy sink in your eyes and thudding headache. In spite of the neat letters on the note, you were having a hard time making it out well, as you felt a fuzzy veil cover your eyes. After a quick stop to the sink to try to wash out part of your hangover, you returned to give the note another try.

<Good Morning Erick. Gave me a bit of scare when you just up and fainted, but no worries as I put you to bed. Anyways, I'll be back later today, so I'll get you some dinner tonight.>

'Damn, now I have to cook dinner on Monday,' you think, then looking at the rest of the letter.

<PS: Made you some toast, egg, and sausage, kept them in the toaster oven to keep the hot.>

'But I guess that means we're even for yesterday's breakfast,' you process, putting the note back on the dresser mirror.

You quickly freshen up in the shower and put on some fresh clothes before heading out the kitchen. Like she mentioned, the meal was still sitting there, warm in the toaster over, though it could wait until you got your Earl Grey set up. After finishing your mean and quickly assessing the time, you thought on how to best spend your time for the day.

Last Post of the evening guys.

Like I mentioned before, I will be a little busy tomorrow, so we won't have an official session. I will try to get some posts in, but they will be sporadic throughout the day. Though, my earliest one will be up before 11 AM EST.

Sorry about the weird scheduling, but know that we will have a full session on Sunday.

Anyways, have a good evening /qst/.

'There might not be enough time to prepare today,' you think to yourself, as you dial in Dante's number, 'and the operation with Allie is going to be in the morning tomorrow if we aren't called out...but if aren't, at least we can get some training done before the next hunt starts.'

The ring of your phone and a 'Hello' from Dante on the other line interrupts your train of thought.

"Hey, Dante," you greet into your cellphone, while staring at your pile of boxes and wrapped up desk near the coat closet, "mind doing me a favor and getting the word out to the others for a training session tomorrow? Same time, and same place, but focusing on something a bit more subtle?"

"Sure thing, Erick" he replies back, and then you hear a loud voice call out from the background, "THEY'RE IN THE BASEMENT, WHERE YOU LEFT THEM YESTERDAY! NO, I DIDN'T HIDE THEM! STOP BEING SO DAMN-! Ugh...sorry about that, Chris is looking for his controllers again. He breaks so many of those things- well, anyways, I'll see you tomorrow I guess."

The call cuts off with Dante's more or less agreement, but you wonder on whether or not that kind of exchange had always been common place for them. You figure Dante's relationship with Chris was always a little rocky, but you get the feeling something else is going on now. Whatever the case may be, you shake thoughts from your head for a bit and focus on the task of unboxing and separating the last of your stuff. You already have an idea of where you want to set up your desk, but the other boxes are going to be a bit more difficult to place without any real labeling.

<April 28th, Saturday 11:00 AM>

The move itself was a little haphazard as the majority of your essentials, such as your clothing, laptop, leftover food items and smaller necessities were unpacked first but never anymore than that. Stuff like your kitchen utensils, work files, bills, and bedroom apparel was easy enough to sort out of the boxes though, with some of them just staying in the boxes for safe keeping. This made setting up your study much easier, or rather the small space near the hallway that you placed your desk on, along with the boxes full of your work files. It was small but compared to what you once had back in your old apartment, it was the Seven Seasons of work studies. This was of course, until you came to the last of the boxes, one small box that was heavier and noisier than most.

You didn't remember packing this one, and noted that it was a different label than the other Lowe's brand moving boxes. Upon opening it however, you soon remembered all too well why this one went over your radar. Inside was a large stack of 12 or so PS2 video games, along with three really thick strategy guides to coincide with some of the titles. You remembered these now, they were some of the last few mementos of your old home, back with your parents.

You remember every single one of these games from back then, along with all of the fun you had with them alone and with friends. From Rachet and Clank to NEO GEO Battle Colosseum, the trove that sits in this box is something you can't really think of throwing away, even if it is a bitter reminder of home. Only problem being that, you didn't have a system to play them on nor the proper support with that Smart TV in the living room. For a second you think on giving them away, but then realize that probably none of your friends would be that interested in old gen stuff like this.

So you organize them by name, along the top of your study desk. An adapter cable for the HDMI shouldn't be too hard to get, but a new PS2 would probably be something to order online or at a specialty store, not to mention controllers and working memory cards. For what it's worth though, you leave them there for a later time. Maybe..you could get Paula into these as well, if you can manage to convince her to play with you of course.

'Boy, wouldn't that be the day...'

<April 28th, Saturday 11:30 AM>

After setting them stacked on your study desk, you organize the remainder of your items in the apartment. There really wasn't much however, as the majority of your kitchen utensils and clothing was already set up in the house. Now, you're left with a few empty boxes that are flattened and stuffed into the coat closet for possible later use, though you didn't really notice as big a change as you imagined after you cleared those out.

'At least it'll look good if we have guests over.'

You get a ring on your cellphone, and notice a message from both Tanjeet and Yukino. The messages are essentially the same, that they won't be able to make it to the training session on Sunday. While this puts a bit of a damper on your mood, you nonetheless understand their circumstances, and reply with an 'Ok, no worries.' You head to the restroom to wash the sweat from your face, and think on what you'll do next with the hour and half remaining before work.

'Pay day is coming next on Tuesday,' you think, 'though thankfully Paula pay with me on the rent. Should probably talk to my old landlady as well, if I don't want an angry phone call about the last bit of rent at the old place...'

You make it a point of taking your Gantz suit before leaving as well as your dufflebag. If a mission is called today, you will be ready for it. Though, honestly, you were kind of hoping a hunt would take place now, compared to the alien you were about to face in a few moments.

<April 28th, Saturday 12:00 PM>

"Didn't think I'd see you again," Ms. Mathers states, her gaze not leaving her magazine, "honestly wasn't hoping to either, considering you always missed your deadlines, Erick Vanders. Here for a courtesy visit or to finally turn in your final notice of residency?"

For the first few months of your residency in DC, you had grown to loathe Samantha Mathers. This wasn't because she took your money, but more because she was crabby old bitch with the memory of an elephant for remember due dates. It was almost comical how much of a stereotype she was in her trade, so you almost felt elated to finally say goodbye to this crusty old bat for good.

"Yes and no, actually," you reply back, leaning over the window a little, "I am just here to make my final payment on the rent, considering I don't live here anymore. Just let me know how much I owe you and I will be on my-"

"No need, someone already paid it for you," Ms. Mather interrupts, her voice not dropping from her bored tone, "tall, lanky fella came by on Wednesday, said he was helping out a friend. Considering the surplus charge that he paid on your behalf, I was just happy to finally see money on your side again."

"Wait, who was this?" you ask, looking a little confused, "What did he look like? And why did-"

"Not your damn answering machine, Erick," Ms. Mathers replies, finally looking up with an irritated look on her face, "The guy said he was helping you out, and paid your fee in full; I would be grateful if were you considering how much you owed from backlogs."

"How could you let him do that though?" you respond, a bit of impatience hanging in your voice, "I have to be one to notify I am moving out. How can you just accept that from a stranger on my behalf?"

"Because you were on a long list of tenants for eviction here," Ms. Mathers continues, her tone turning to a more sinister calm, "and the date just so happened to coincide with the week of an eviction referral. The money on the side just sped up the process for you Erick."

"It's just...", you try to speak out, but you know you're arguing a moot point here. If anything, you just want to keep her talking about the who the hell paid your final rent. She's not having it though, and upon your first stutter, she makes a point of shutting the blinders on her office window and setting an 'Out for Lunch' sign in front of the shutters.

'Bitch...'

It seems that the moment you manage to resolve one issue, another circumstance happens that manages to pull you back into something else. For all of the trouble the FBI, aliens, Gantz, and the ridiculous investigations occurring within the police force, it seems that there is no real end to the twists and turns of your life. So, with another mysterious occurrence thrust in your face, you decide to do the most simple decision of your life.

You get out of the office, hop on your car to Subway for lunch, and just ignore this even happened. At least for now, it wouldn't something to really concern yourself with. Maybe the incompetent staff and angry customers of WalMart would ease your mind back to normality.

<April 28th, Saturday 1:00 PM>

Sam was surprised at how punctual you were today. Normally, it was 5 or 10 min late to your shift, though he knew that DC traffic was a bitch so he didn't really give you much shit about it. But, he was pleasantly surprised by it, and said that he expected this amount of dedication from you. You just nodded in agreement and did your normal promise of improvement, even though you knew you could only improve so much when working at a Walmart. After putting your dufflebag in your now private locker room, you headed out to the floor for more of that familiar customer service.

Perhaps it was too much to wish for normality at WalMart, as it seems that half of the registers were still being repaired. Though, considering you actually have proper staffing here for once, as the seasonal help has been relegated to cleanup and cart duty today, it might not be as bad. It was still an annoying amount of time for the repair crew to get them back to shape again, something about rewiring part of the front end or whatever. You knew excuses weren't gonna help you here though, as several more customers began to line up for the midday rush.

<CRITICAL FAILURE>
-1 INT

<April 28th, Saturday 5:00 PM>

There is a fine line between bravery and stupidity, and you seem to always jump between both sides. Today however, it seems that you are more leaning towards the latter as it seems that you thought it would have been a great idea to re-assign a portion of the seasonal help back to the front end to save on time. If you're being entirely fair on yourself, this was more as a result of only so many people handling registers and some of the departments being without help.

Given your current managerial authority, this was within your power. However, given your lack of forethought to this, it was a clear sign of how quickly things could devolve with some of the new help. The lines were getting backed up as a result of their lackluster attention at the registers, but you didn't dare call Sam to inform him on what you had done. Eventually, you had to call the floor staff back, and reassigned the others to their normal duties. In less than 30 minutes, you had almost single-handedly started as shoppers' riot in a Walmart.

This whole ordeal wracked your head up something fierce, as worry and anxiety began to build on you because your decision. Though, even if things cleared up a bit, you were going to have to take a small break from this for a bit. After assigning one of the assistant managers to watch the front end for a bit, you went to the restroom to take a leak. At the urinal, you couldn't help but think on the number of mistakes you had done in the past.

They weren't many, in fact you could only think of two other times when you'd done something like this. Though, you knew that Sam was going to have your head for going through with your 'genius' plan. Though, as you continued to chastise yourself and think of an explanation/excuse for this catastrophe, you felt a very familiar tingling ring in side of your ears.

'Fuck...', you think to yourself, as your mind quickly goes through the shortest route back to your locker. This couldn't have come at worse time and at worse place, though you were already ready for the consequences. You may get a big mark on your record for this, but you are not dying tonight because of some dumb-ass miscalculation on your job.

<SUCCESS>

'The janitor's entrance,' you surmised, already speeding out of the men's restroom, 'it connects the main offices to the-'

You stop yourself however, as you remember that it doesn't open unless you have a janitor's keycard. There is a small bit of panic in your head as you think of an alternate route, but you just shake this feeling away and let your instincts start to do the directing for you. You wheel through the front end, avoiding employee and customer alike on your way to the administrative doors. You almost throw the door from its hinges as you speed inside, and are immediately met with a painful objects. You and the object are thrown to the ground in a collision, though you don't think too much on what or who you hit as you just stead yourself and make your way down the hall to your office.

"Erick?!" Sam shouts, trying to get up off the floor, "What the hell do you think you're doing?! ERICK!!!"

His shouts cascade down the administrative office as you continue to sprint your way down to your office locker. You make it to your door, almost tripping over your feet trying to stop, when you feel that calming feeling in your head, and notice a laser shoot out from the office computer monitor to your head. This only makes you hurry even faster as you hastily try to pry the locker's padlock open with your combination. You fingers fumble as the laser makes its way down your shoulders.

You're only working from memory now as your fingers dash backwards and forwards on the combination. The laser is down to your elbows as you feel a click on the padlock, and almost fling the door open with your forearms. Without much of your body left to spare, you throw what remains of your body onto the open locker and the dufflebag. You pray to whatever god is listening that Gantz is merciful enough to let you have this much...

Whatever your fortune is, you would soon find out, that someone else was listening and looking at your current endeavor.
