We were in the market for one of those to round out our team more. Would be great if we can catch this guy and retrieve Fevine this session, turn our two Pokémon into four. Rolled 4 (1d100)

>>2643816
>>Swallow it and try your best to smile.
>>
>>2643806
I don’t really see why we shouldn’t catch it. I mean when we captured Chiwip he’d just been booted out of his flock by all of his family members for being a little bitch, and he turned out pretty kickass. Besides, this guy beat up that girl’s Sandshrew so he could steal her bag, so he must be at least somewhat competent.
>>
>>2644253
We got Chiwip because pretty much everyone liked and wanted a Chiwip so when one finally appeared the consensus was "CATCH NOW". I guarantee you if it was a Parafly or a Munkit that got rejected we probably wouldn't want it nearly as much

And a water type beating a Sandshrew isn't impressive. Like at all. And while it was carrying the bag away it dropped most everything including the food. Doesn't sound too competent to me. It's gonna have to try hard to impress me enough to want it on our team that only can only have 6 party members at any giving time. Especially when there's no guarantee it'll evolve into something cool. I don't want to put all of that investment into a pokemon we'll might box later on
>>
>>2644347
I'm trying to think of how I think it would evolve that isn't just poliwrath.

So far, I've got....."evasion tank water death clown" and "arms are literally oars".
>>
>>2644347
I didn’t say that he was amazing, just that he’s got better credentials then “Fell in front of us.” Besides, we decided we’re going to fight the gym leader once we finish Aspen’s delivery, and I’d like at least 4 Pokémon for that match, since 3 or 4’s a reasonable number to expect her to have as well. If we catch this guy and Fevine, when we finally find him, then that’ll give us a good balance of types to start off, and we can take our time getting and picking out the other two. It’s not like we can’t replace him down the line, if it really comes down to it. We’ll still have two slots if we find any Pokémon we really want to add to the team, and we can put him aside if we manage to fill up our roster and find a Pokémon we like more.
>>
>>2644432
Most starting gym leaders have 2 pokemon and 3 AT MOST (only happened once). I actually really like our current team we both have type advantage against Hannally and I assume it's like in the anime where you both use an equal amount of pokemon on your team.
>>
>>2644447
I’d agree normally, but Hannally seems to have extensive experience as a Pokémon trainer before her stint as gym leader, considering she’s got an Ariados and stated that a number of the Pokémon in the garden are Pokémon she captured in her younger days. She probably won’t send more then two or three at us, but I see no reason not to be prepared. We don’t really lose anything by capturing this guy.
>>
>>2643816
>Swallow it and try your best to smile.
>>
>>2644472
? She isn't gonna send out an Ariados against a newbie trainer. We know that gym leaders have strong ass pokemon but don't use them until the rematches that are usually post game. And once again like in the anime they use an equal number of pokemon against the trainer.

And you can extend the "we don't lose anything" argument and say we should just look in the forest until we have 6 pokemon on our team so we can just wreck fucking house. I don't want to do something like that I want to add pokemon to the team when I actually want them not just for the sake of it
>>
>>2644490
Obviously she’s not going to send out the Ariados, but at the same time she’s very likely got more then just 2 Pokémon at our skill level to send at us. Chiwip and Cubcoal could probably handle it, but we would stand to gain from having one or two Pokémon in reserve when we battle her. And I’m not suggesting we just wander the forest catching Pokémon, but if we’re going to run into him like this, I don’t see any reason to avoid catch him. He seems friendly enough, and I’d say I like his design, when he’s not got his eyes closed.
>>
>>2644504
What do you "at our skill level"? We Literally started our journey yesterday and all we have is our starter and the route 1 bird. We even told her we're mainly doing this to grow as a person so why would she assume we're that fucking strong? And once again in the anime (which this is heavily based on) the gym leaders use an equal number of pokemon as the challenger so that nobody has a clear advantage so catching another pokemon might make the battle harder.

And I'll use the same example as I did before. If your main argument is that we have nothing to lose and everything to gain you could also use that argument for catching everything we see. I don't want to add a member to the team with the reasoning like "might as well" I'd perfer moments like with Chiwip where pretty much everyone wanted one and was excited to train it and see what it becomes. Those are the most fun moments in pokemon for me
>>
>>2644547
When I say “At our skill level”,I mean unevolved Pokémon, like the Bumbli she had hanging around her. My knowledge of the anime, past the first season or so, is admittedly rather spotty, so I can’t say how the gym leaders acted in the anime. I was going off of the games, which I have far more experience with, where the gym leaders send out whatever Pokémon they’ve got. And my argument doesn’t hinge on “Why not”. I do actually like how this Pokémon looks, for the most part, and it seems to have a nice disposition. Plus Damp is a pretty useful ability, without any drawbacks, so I’d like to catch it, and also don’t see any reason not to do so.
>>
>>2644582
I can't really argue with you about how it looks cause that's all opinion based but this pokemon seems more like an acquired taste to me and not a universally revered mon like Chiwip was (best bird).

But what I can argue against is Damp being a useful ability. How? It only stops like 3 moves and one is exclusive to an ultra beast. It's so specific. It's more specific than Bulletproof. We can just get a ghost type and it'll do what damp does but better... ok sorry for that rant. I just think damp is a really shit ability and one if the reasons I'm not the most excited about using this thing

And there it is again! You keep saying "I don't see any reason not to". That's horrible reasoning as once again I can say I don't see any reason not to go an catch a full team of 6 from the start
>>
>>2644618
Well, yeah, damp doesn’t have a wide range of applications, but it also has no drawbacks. There are abilities with a wider range of applications, yeah, but they usually come with some sort of significant drawback in turn. I’d take a somewhat useful ability over an ability that might harm the Pokémon as much as it hurts them at times. Plus the Pokémon that do have self destruct tend to be pretty annoying. Suicide attacks from low hp are the worst. And I keep saying that I don’t see any reason not to because, my liking it’s design and what we’ve seen so far of it’s personality, I don’t see anything that would put me off of the idea of adding it to the team.
>>
>>2644649
What are you talking about? Most of the good abilites don't have any drawbacks. Abilites like levitate, moxie, huge power, static, poison point, ect don't have any drawbacks and those are only the ones that we've seen so far off in our short journey off the top of my head.

And pokemon that have self destruct aren't really that annoying when they only last 1 turn and are hard countered by any ghost type
>>
While I'm eager to get a water type, I'm not crazy about this thing and don't particularly want to catch it. But let's see how the rest of this interaction goes.
>>
>>2644681
Well, Gentle, to start with ,which Chiwip has. Raises special attack but lowers attack. Then there's whatever Fevine had. Can't remember what it's called, but it causes all of his attacks to connect, but also makes it so that all of the opponent's attacks connect.

Abilites are passive effects a pokemon use in battle (sometimes outside of battle but those are kinda rare) like levitate lifting you off of the ground so ground type attacks don't affect you. While natures are sort of like aptitudes in a certain stat like adamant giving you a boost in attack but lowers special attack

>>
>>2650240

>>
>>2650240
Ultra sun and moon are pretty much the undisputed hardest games in the series. And not the "I have more levels than you" difficulty like in a lot of rom hacks, it's actually creative and strategic especially the Totems. It's the first pokemon game I ever whited out in since I was a kid. It was a lot of fun especially with all the diverse pokemon you could use

If you want story the original sun and moon are usually agreed to have the best/2nd best story out of all the games with the only contender being Black & White. Ultra sun & moon kinda abandon the story.

Even though I had fun playing both it might be a bit boring to play both the original and the enhanced versions too close to each other so I recommend you pick one depending on which you value more story or refinement and a nice challenge. I recommend buying ultra sun and moon cause all the new shit they add makes the game all the better and the story of the original, while really good in comparison of other pokemon games, is simply a decent story when compared to all of writing.

>>2650255
Why? You're only gonna encourage them to do more shit like that garbage fire by doing stuff like that
>>
>>2650296
That's a toughy. I feel like I'd get less if I don't get an ultra version but I've never played Pokemon for a challenge, I just like collecting mons. Hell if they had a game where you could actually pick a path I'd probably be a professor.
>>
>>2650296
I just want a pokeball that isnt a plush or cheap plastic
>>
>>2650336
Well then you're in luck. Ultra sun and moon (usum for short) have a regional dex of over 400 which is about half of every ever so it's great for experimenting with new mons especially since the extra difficulty might give you an incentive to try out different mons to try to come up with a way to counter the opponent. They did a similar thing to black & white 2 where they add a bunch of old pokemon to the map so you're team could be as diverse as possible. There's some really sun stuff like early game & Hawlucha, Zoara, and Buneary (which was surprisingly useful). The huge pokedex was one of the best changes usum made
>>
>>2650369
You underestimate how super pleb I am when playing. I've played the exact same since I traded my Pokemon cards for a gbc and a copy of gold when I was 8. I just beatstick my way through with type advantages and raw power. How rough am I going to have it?
>>
>>2650377
Hahahaha. You're gonna have a blast anon. A fucking blast I tell you. If you play how you say and you don't overlevel your team I guarantee you a wild ride. Veterans who play smart have had a lot trouble. Expect to change your playstyle at some point unless of the goddess of luck has some obsession with you

Btw real men turn the exp share off. Although that could be a bit brutal for someone who plays like yourself
>>
>>2650395
Oh trust me I'm a wee babby when it comes to Pokemon games so I'll probably just leave the exp share on. I definitely don't have as much gaming time as I used too.
>>
>>2650409
Perfectly fine (*cough bitch cough*). Just a few warnings the game has a bunch of unskipable cutscenes and the beginning is around a 30 minutes tutorial (it was a fucking hour in the original sm) because game freak assume you're a retarded kid. Those are the only 2 complaints I can't deny no matter how much I love those games.

Another complaint a lot of people have is that they're aren't gyms anymore. I personally think it's a much needed improvement since the replacement, trials and mainly totems, are much more strategic and creative while gym battles felt like glorified trainer battles with higher level pokemon imo but to each their own. Game freak wanted to make a vacation region (hence why it takes place in hawii) as a break from all the old shit and to try to give us new stuff and I think they did a great job. Sad a lot of the mechanics like SOS & totem battles will probably never come back

Fair warning the game is easily the most difficult but it's pretty easy to, for lack if a better term, cheese the game especially with the new Z-move gimmick, that almost nobody likes for some reason. If you lead out with a type advantage and just instantly use the Z-move in the beginning if battle the Totems can be significantly easier and even moreso if you're overleveled which the exp share makes incedibly easy to happen

And also if you don't have a lot of time on our hands you might wanna ask a friend who plays pokemon if you have one because they probably know you better than a game reviewer of some loser on 4chan does.

That should be the end of my gay rant about a game I love and is sadly underappreciated

I meant underappreciated in terms of pokemon games. There are tons of people who hate on this game mainly because "hurr durr no gyms" and refuse to keep an open mind. If you extend the definition of underappreciated to everything ever like that then nothing is truly unappreciated

Guys look at the picture. It honestly looks like he's licking our face. Half his face was opened when we saw his chompers. And neither of his paws that could wreck us are facing forward.
>>
>>2650471
How does it look like it's licking our face? There's nothing to imply either way so wouldn't it be safer to assume it's attacking us especially with those teeth. And you could very easily say that it's trying to get a grip on our shirt so it can continue to attack our fucking face
>>
>>2650488
Honestly it's a headbutt at worst and anything chipwip does might hit us too. Arms definitely don't look like they're in any position to grip our shirt. I'd rather not have attack be the default when a pic is unclear.

Paddlefrop is clearly smelling the poketreats from our breath and is about to send his frog tongue down our mouth for it
>>
>>2650518
We did just eat one. That makes a shocking amount of sense.
>>
>>2650504
How is it a headbutt at worst? At worst we're getting our face bitten off! We're looking at the back of it's head so of course it's not gonna seem like it's jaw is unhinged. The back of the head doesn't change at all when you open your mouth. That's basic anatomy.

And you're acting like we just attacked it when it took one step forward. IT JUMPED ON OUR FUCKING FACE! A WILD POKEMON WITH TEETH THAT LOOKS STRAIGHT FROM A LOVECRAFTIAN HORROR STORY IS ATTACKING OUR FACE! We're completely justified in defending ourselves whether it had good intentions or not it's completely it's fault. Cubcoal biting us when we tried to pet it when eating but this is way to far.

>>2650518
? If that's the case why didn't it go for the bag
>>
>>2650531
Can't smell them through the bag but can on our breath? As for the jaw thing I didn't mean the back of his head, but that the sides opened so wide we'd see at least a sliver of it in the pic.
>>
>>2650531
Saliva and digestion release certain components of smell into your breath.

And i dunno, maybe the box is good at keeping the smell in.
>>
>>2650534
Its hand is obscuring it's entire jawline. It can really go either way

>>2650535
Eeeeh. That's kind of a stretch. It clearly saw that we got the food from the bag and animals normally don't attack people to eat food out of their mouth.
>>
>>2644829
>>2650550
The circle on it's cheeks looks like it's flipped out.
>>2650438
Looks flat there to me.
>>
>>2650559
? We can't see the cheeks. They're obscured. Look at the ears and where they should be in relation to the cheeks. The cheeks are exactly where the hand is. It was deliberately put that way.

And it's mouth only goes that wide when it's mouth is seemingly fully open. It could still be slightly open and if not open yet it could easily still open it anytime it wants
>>
>>2650438
>Try and get Paddlefrop off yourself and calm it down.
>>
>>2650582
Ah you are right. I misinterpreted where a line was. Still (and no offense to glacier) it definitely seems purposefully misleading which is why I'm leaning heavily into the "it's not as bad as it looks" angle.
>>
>>2650590
I can definitely see where you're coming from and it's all tied up by my count so it could go either way. I don't think it's insulting to point it out I'm pretty sure it's just him being cheeky and trying to get anons to break out into mad discussion on the morals of Chiwip on Paddlefrop violence and when it's appropriate (it worked).
>>
>>2650602
I don't think it's offensive either but getting tone in text is difficult and I've seen qms freakout for less. Figured I'd hedge my bets.

Princess Guard Quest. And not the okish reboot that happened on April fool's this year. You were a guard named Reinhold who the qm did everything in their power to make useless. A shortlist of his sins include: Making every character more powerful than the mc and no that never changes, making the one thing he was good at literally the worst thing in setting, the one time this wasn't the case our rival cheated and one after double 20s anyway due to having a weapon that he said would NEVER BE SEEN IN SETTING AS THEY WERE TOO STRONG NO YOU DON'T GET ONE, when the waifu he liked was losing her pushed her super hard in a last ditch effort for the players to pick her, having the waifu that WAS picked get kidnapped and molested, have the final boss who had been sensing our movement through the ground GET BLINDED BY DIRT TO THE EYES.

I'm sure there's more that I missed but if you want to know how not to QM you look at PGQ. Not to say glacier is anywhere near close, but Arch would get pissy if he even thought you might be taking a jab at him, even in jest.

no, that one's AoPH. THAT one was a shining example of putting too many titles into a crossover and failing every single one and having such a hard-on for Psychics(no you're party's psychic sucks balls as soon as you get a bad roll) that instead of nerfing it the QM just gave Fighting a WEAKER version of Psychic.

When in a stealth mission with only half the party and one dude wanted to go in anyway, he expected us to FIGHT HIM so he would stop. Right outside the stealth target. In a forest. The dude had Fire type.

There was also some shit about trying to mash pokemon and monster hunter conventions together such that the end result NPCs put all points into Retard Strats and Make Everyone Your Enemy.

>>
>>2650728
I know you're talking about the actual thing cause I refuse to acknowledge that april fools joke that got dragged out until it stopped being funny. I never seen PGQ and say whatever you want about the qm but at least he had his own idea and didn't try to take someone else's. (By the way is that train wreck on legs still going? I haven't seen it in while)

And man thanks for the history lesson. I never knew quite possibly the most popular quest on this board was a victim of such an obvious problem. It's really interesting. I'm decently new in the large scope of things (I actually didn't know what PGQ or Magical Girl Noir were before I saw that april fools joke) but i knew about how the mc was borderline fodder and getting magic was meme but I didn't know it was that bad.

I knew at some point in the history of this board there had to be one qm that doesn't understand the basic mechanics of player choice that everyone could look at and see as an example what happens when you don't listen to your players but I didn't expect it to be such a large and influential one.

But I can kinda sympathise with him. If I ever became a qm I can definitely see myself doing that if I ever got attached. Not the making winning waifu get raped out of salty revenge cause mine didn't win, that's too far & unnecessary (did we at least get to take her virginity first?). That's why whenever making a story for D&D or maybe a quest if I'm bored enough one day I like to take the model of writing a canon story line so that if shit goes down hill in the game I still always have the actual story so it doesn't really matter to me as much if a character dies and I can just laugh it off. Though that brings into question the possible problems of turning a story into a game but I'm still figuring it all out.

Btw is the qm still trying to make PGQ into a visual novel. That might work better than a quest where ANYTHING could happen
>>
>>2650890
Yup he raised like 100k or something ridiculous for it as well. The April fool's thing was alright, that qm probably just could have used his own concept instead of slapping PGQ on it and been fine. Don't think it's still up though. The winning waifu didn't get raped, only molested. We were "lucky" enough to catch up to him before then. MGNQ is actually back (sort of) so that's not actually a joke.

Basically all the popularity went to the qms head (I mean there were enough LCDs in it to get a huge crowd) to the point where if things weren't going how he wanted the MC got punished while his "cooler" characters solved everything. Last I heard Arch still thinks he ran the first and last greatest quest ever. Popularity doesn't equal quality.
>>
>>2651074
Just looked it up and it raised 20,000 when the goal was 10,000. 3 people donated 1000 by themselves. Some autists have too much money. Apparently the demos out is on version 1.4 so I might give it a playthrough today or tomorrow. If I enjoy the game should I take the time to read PGS?

And yeah MGNQ is back. It was long as shit so when I heard about it in the PGQAF thread and looked it up and found like 300 threads so I thought it ended but then a new chapter came out soon after and I thought it was a late april fools joke but no it's still going on somehow

>Last I heard Arch still thinks he ran the first and last greatest quest ever. Popularity doesn't equal quality.
Does he actually think that mess was a masterpiece? What an egocentric asshole. Was he one of those qms who refuse to admit they're wrong and get super mad at the players when they critique him?
>>
>>2651128
Yea he was exactly that qm. PGQ is worth a read if only for the history of it all and to see what an ACTUAL shitstorm looks like. I'd you have time to kill MGNQ is actually a pretty good read. Still waiting on Re: Spider quest to come back.
>>
>>2651172
My problem with MGNQ was all the fan omakes and shit at the end of each thread which ended up being super plot important but were also all fucking awful
>>
>>2651190
Oh I flat ignored those. They don't actually effect anything. They just give context to some stuff but I never felt like I missed something.
>>
>>2651172
MGNQ doesn't really interest me. I could at least read the first chapter of PGQ because even though I hate the generic fantasy setting the animeness kept me intrested. But for MGNQ I couldn't get past the first thread the art style turns me off. What's it even about? Is it a noir mystery story with magical girls or is it just generic magical girl shit and the mc is named noir. There's obviously the length which is pretty intimidating but I've got a lot of time on my hands (I wouldn't be talkng about the history of a 4chan board on someones pokemon quest if I didn't)

The he'll is Re: Spider quest? I've at least heard of PGQ & MGNQ before I did "research" on it but never even heard of that one. I think the only one mentioned around the same amount, if not more, as those 2 was Homeless Mutant quest
>>
>>2651211
Noir and Warhammer shit with magical girls instead of space Marines and shit.

And it's RE: Monster quest EX. Forgot that there were choices for creature in thread one. It spawned all the Re: whatever quests. Loved the system Reqm used and the characters. Story was starting to kick up past the initial SoL stuff and then he just kinda stopped.
>>
>>2651219
I don't think it's the same thing you're talking about but I read something similar to what your describing called Monster quest. It was about a Wisp named Zeldren or whatever but he eventually got captured by an orc or something. Then it became shit when we switched to new character. I know it had a reboot or something but I never bothered reading it. Doubt it's what your talking about though. It was pretty recent all things considered. One of the first quests I ever got into but after reading other quests I realized there was much much better out there
>>
>>2651266
Nah RE: Monster started with us getting spattered by a train and picking what to reincarnate as. We picked the dryad option. Leveling up was from exp and you'd get a new evolution by accomplishing feats or getting blessings. Went through childhood with our siblings who ended up specializing in different things like weaving or magic. Grew up and made friends with other monsters. Started a merc company kind of and became ambassadors for the monster Forest like the spider queen of old. Ran a dungeon that I've completely stole for when I dm campaigns. Started making the forest great again and made a bitchin halberd before the qm just stopped.

Here's hoping Paddlefrop is a three stage pokemon, or at least gets a better ability after evolving given Damp is one of the least useful abilities out there. Though in any case once we have fevine as well we'll have pretty solid coverage for our early game team.
>>
>>2655529
Having him as a three stage Pokemon would be nice, though at least with this being more like the anime that sort of thing doesn't matter quite as much as it usually does. But yeah, with Fevine we'll have four solid Pokemon to work with, with good type coverage. Maybe a fifth after our gym battle with Hannally (I feel like I spelled that wrong), though I'm not too sure how I'd feel about a bug type with our current set up.
>>
>>2655581
I could see a bug type being interesting, though it really depends on what is available. I'm more worried about the possibility of getting another redundant grass type, though I suppose having Fevine as a more direct offensive type while we have a support or debuff oriented one could work in that case, though that really depends on if there are any fungus based pokemon in the gardens given they tend to have the best status ailment moves of grass types, along with abilities like effect spore.

That said though, I’m kind of seeing some problems with letting two of our three Pokémon beat each other up in the middle of the forest, when we’ve got plans to track down something that left a big pair of claw marks in a tree.

>>"If you want a place on this team, you're gonna have to prove yourself to Chiwip! Let's fight!"

We have some potions and we could probably find berries in this forest so it should be fine. Mari also has a couple mons if worst comes to worst

Nah, those marks were rather huge.
Indeed we should be careful.
>>

Honestly it could be from Paddlefrop, but we don't know with any certainty so yeah caution is always smart. Besides even if Paddlefrop is responsible there could be other unrelated threats. Conserving some resources will be important.

Perhaps it has a -Def nature? I don't imagine they're a very defensive species so for battling purposes a -Def one might even be optimal, but in the nest situation the one with the weakest defenses is going to take the most pecks from siblings, and might be the first to be forced out when the nest gets crowded.

What other roll did we fail?

Also people underestimate rolls in the 50-60 range. Sure it isn't incredible but does it really need to be? No. We got an average roll and an average guy in his 20s can definently lift a girl of her size. Especially if that arm day stuff was real

It seems the logical place to come from. Unless they've got some sort of train system running over or under the water between the different regions, which I'd imagine is rather unlikely, since everyone seems to take ships between regions, Hoenn's probably the only place you could take a train to Maho from. Unless Hoenn is connected to some other region and Cole just passed through it on the way to Maho, which seems unlikely.

I meant 1.5. I thought that was obvious but I guess not. And we usually don't have to wait this long for an update.
